I know it can be really overwhelming at first so I'm just gonna explain one section at a time

The first things you see when posting are Rating, Archive Warnings and Fandoms.

If you click that drop down box you'll be presented with five options

Not Rated, General Audiences, Teen, Mature, and Explict.

Not Rated means exactly what it says on the tin, the story has no rating. Whether that could be because of spoilers, you dont want to rate it, etc. This one is selected by default

General Audiences means that this fic is appropriate for all ages, including users under thirteen, to read. Will have no or very little swearing, non graphic violence etc. Like movies that are rated E for everyone.

Teen is the PG-13 of ao3. It means that this fics contains things that are inappropriate for users under 13. Like swearing, more violence, etc. Its more suited for Teenagers to see is what I'm saying.

Mature is the R rated stuff. More graphic violence, sexual themes that arent as graphic as Explicit.

Then theres Explicit, the X rated tag because its either used for straight up porn or extremely graphic violence.

So I dont know how hard on the violence you want to go with your fic its a 2012 version of LFLS so I think Teen might be your best bet, maybe Mature but if you also dont know or dont want to rate it then go with Not Rated

Now the archive warnings. These are very important because they warn fellow users of what potentially triggering things could be in the fic, and if the readers do not want to read about those things they can simply filter them out. I dont think most of the warnings require explanation they are pretty straight forward, except for one

Choose not to use archive warnings. Authors on ao3 use this one when one or more of the archive warnings are spoilers for the fic. (Like Major Character death for example) which means the author is basically saying "One or more of these warnings could apply but Im not gonna spoil it and ruin the story so read at your own risk"

Now for Fandoms. Pretty straight forward this is where you put in what fandoms your fic belongs to.

See I just typed in Teenage and got a full list of tmnt fandoms. You would just pick tmnt 2012 and move on (optional but you can also add Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles-All Media Types. This one includes all tmnt iterations and even original tmnt iterations. So if you add this one you'll potentially get your fic to a wider audience, you dont HAVE to but you can if you want to)

Ok next section

Categories is first. All those options are potential ships you could include in your story. F for Female M for Male. (So if its a guy and a girl F/M, two girls F/F etc)

Now for the three that might cause confusion. Gen, Multi and Other.

Gen means that there are no romantic relationships in the story, and if there are they are very minor and not important to the story at large, so if you dont want to include ships this is your best bet

Multi means that theres more then one kind of relationship (like f/f and f/m for example) or that there are poly relationships (like a relationship between three girls)

Other is for other types of ships like ones involving nonbinary characters for example

Now before moving on to the relationship section I need to make something VERY clear

You use a SLASH ( / ) for ROMANTIC OR SEXUAL RELATIONSHIPS.

You use the AND symbol ( & ) for PLATONIC OR FAMILIAL RELATIONSHIPS

DO NOT USE A SLASH FOR PLATONIC OR FAMILIAL RELATIONSHIPS ESPECIALLY FOR THE BROTHERS.

With that out of the way this is where you can tag relationships whether they be romantic or platonic and familial.

Whether you are including romantic relationships or not is up to you but if you want to include the bond between the four brothers or their bond with April, Casey, Splinter etc here is how I do it

I start typing in the names of the turtles and an & symbol and usually the first option will be that really long one which includes the bond between the turtles.

If you want to include April, Casey or Splinter in that just type their names an & symbol and one of the turtles' names and you'll get some more options

The first one includes April, the second one includes Casey and April and the last one includes April, Casey and Splinter

Next category is characters. Hese are the characters that will be involved in the story.

This one is really simple just type the names of the characters who will be involved in your fic. Like obviously the turtles, maybe April and Casey and Splinter, whichever villains you're using, etc

The last category for this section is additional tags. this is where you add any other tags you think apply to your story. Is it an au? Like what elements are in your story what themes are you exploring. Since you are writing a LFLS fic I'd assume some that apply are, Alternate Universe-Canon Divergence (which basically means that this since this is an au its different from the canon events of tmnt 2012) PTSD, Electrocution, shock collar, hurt comfort, brainwashing, etc. I recommend looking at the additional tags for Like Father Like Son to get a general idea of what to include.

And if you dont know which tags are the additional tags here's an example from one of my own ao3 fics When The World Crumbles.

Everything in the red box are the additional tags.

You just type in what tags apply click on the one you need and keep typing. Now if you are unsure what tags to use or if you come up with new ideas that need tagging there is a very good tag you can use

It basically tells the readers that the additional tags may change or there might be more, very useful.

Now this section

Its all pretty straight forward, this is where you put the fic's title and a short summary to draw the reader in.

The summary doesnt need to be amazing or groundbreaking it can be as simple as a quote from the fic you like or just saying a tmnt 2012 version of Like Father Like Son

Just put something there and you'll be fine

Above the summary box is the Add co-creators option. If you are writing this fic with another person and they also have an ao3 account you can check that box and put in their username so you are both authors of the fic

now the notes, these are just authors notes that can put at either the beginning of the chapter or the end, 100 percent optional but if you want to go ahead (just a warning though, if you put a note at the END of chapter one then that end note will be at the end of EVERY SINGLE CHAPTER unless you delete the chapter one end note. I dont know why ao3 does this, it doesnt do that with beginning notes so idk. Just be aware of that)

Second to last section before the actual writing section.

Now the only mandatory thing you need to include from this section is Language but I'll go over all the others as well

Post to collections or challenges means you can add this fic to a public collection (either started by you or another user) its basically a compilation of all kinds of fics sharing similar themes, like works created for a challenge (whumptober is one of them) works all made in the same year etc. Completely optional. I dont use collections myself so I dont know that much about them.

Gift this work to is self explanatory. If you are writing this for someone and they have an ao3 account you can put in their user name and when the fic is published it will show up in the "Gifts" section of that user's dashboard. If this isnt a gift leave that box alone. (sidenote if you want me to explain how the dashboard works as well as how to filter fics I would be more than happy to)

Now before continuing you notice how all the boxes for the options are listed ABOVE them. Yeah always pick the box ABOVE whatever option you want. Took me two years to learn that :/

This work is a remix, a translation, a podfic, or was inspired by another work. Pretty simple, if your work is any of the above you would put in the name, url, and author of the original version to give credit. That way you are not taking credit for other people's work. Now since your fic will be based on Like Father Like Son you could put that in as inspiration for this section

If the fic is already in the archive you only need the url

This work is part of a series. If you are planning on writing multiple stories in this universe (sequels, prequels, side stories, alternate endings) then you would tick this box and give your series a name. Then it would say book of your series. Again completely optional but there if you need it.

This work has multiple chapters

If you know how many chapters your fic will be type that in place of the question mark, if not just leave it blank until you do. You can also title your chapters but if you dont it will just say "Chapter 1" so if thats what you prefer then there you go

Set a different publication date. You can either backdate your work and have it posted on a specific day or post specific chapters on specific days. Completely optional but if you do choose to do this you can change it at any time but be aware that your work might not show up at the top of the newest updates

Language is pretty simple, just pick which language your work will be written in.

Select a workskin. I dont use this feature myself but you can put in custom work skins to make your fic look really cool example The Last Ronin Becomes A Discord Admin by Melon Palooza. This fic uses workskins to make the text actually look like discord. But for just writing a normal fic you wont need this, its purely cosmetic.

Last section before the writing one and its pretty short (and unfortunately I've hit the image limit on the tumblr app 🥲)

This is the privacy section, everything here is optional but im talking about it anyways.

Only show your work to registered users. This means that only users who are registered and logged into their ao3 accounts can see your work. Useful against preventing bots and keeping your work safe from AI scraping.

Enable comment moderation. User's comments do not show up unless you choose to post them, good for filtering out hateful comments but completely optional

Who can comment on this work? Registered users and guests (people not logged into their ao3 account or dont have one), Registered users only or no one can comment. Basically you can choose whether you want anyone to be able to comment, only logged in users (to again prevent bots and possible AI scraping) or if you dont want any comments that is also an option.

Now the writing section.

You have a big text box where you cab write with two buttons above it. Rich Text and HTML. HTML is selected by default.

HTML is good for coding in specific things (like making the text look like discord text, making text invisible unless you hover over it, including translations for text, that kind of stuff.) Rich text however will look more like google docs, will the ability to center text, bold and italicize, you get the picture.

I want to make something clear, you dont want to actually WRITE your fic in ao3.

If you enter text in the text box then click the Preview button at the bottom, if you scroll down you'll see four buttons. Post, Save As Draft, Edit, or Cancel. Which all do exactly as they say.

If you save your work as a DRAFT you only have thirty days to get it published. Because ao3 will automatically DELETE all unpublished drafts after thirty days. (Note if you already have a published fic and save a new chapter to that fic as a draft it wont be deleted because the worm is already published.)

So if you dont want to potentially lose your work I recommend writing it in google docs then copy and pasting it into the text box (make sure Rich Text is selected incase you need to edit or format)

And thats a complete guide to posting on ao3 Im sorry this is so long and wordy I tried to keep it as short and simple as I could. I hope this at least helped you somewhat with posting. I know ao3 can be confusing at first but once you get the hang of it its a piece of cake

Ok so I'm new the st fandom (even tho i always liked the show) and this thing has been around for ages but I wanted to see for myself what kind of movies are on the Video store fridays thingy which is every film the writers talked about when writing/making season 4

But i could barely read that board lol so I found an amazing list of all the films listed there (and some more that reference s4) made by @ strangerclips and as I was going through them I noticed some patterns so I decided to sort the films into categories for myself, just as a fun thing to do, and so I can maybe see where's the direction s4 is going

So for the past week I've been doing that and decided to share the results (maybe you can catch something I missed or we can discuss)

Sorry in advsnce it's gonna be long (there's around 300 movies altogether 😭)

I sorted them in character categories that I know/feel going to be important which are: ELEVEN, WILL, BILLY, HOPPER

I will explain my reasoning with a lot of them in later posts maybe but definitely with Billy and his themes I was inspired by @strangerthings4theories so kudos to them for making me believe the boy will be back. I know they analyse some movies that can't be about anyone other than Billy (like The Crow) but I found a lot of others that just don't fit other categories or characters (and there's a movie about a boy named Billy who goes back to California which is his hometown, im sorry what?? Who else would that reference??). So if the sheer amount of them doesn't give you hope idk what else can! I know it gave me more hope haha

The other categories are sorted through genres (ROMANCE, SCI-FI) but I found a lot of them fit similar themes (TIME, CRIME, EXPERIMENTS) and they mostly fit so neatly in those categories, and it fits with a lot of stuff we know about the previous season and season 4 so far so that's interesting!

YEAH I GET THIS SO MUCH! i really dont like leosagi in pretty much any format. Im also not a huge fan of the shippers tending to be tmnt fans only or tmnt fans first because i feel like they dont care for usagi outside of someone to ship and only learn more about him for shipping. Rise and 2003 fans are especially prominent of this ive seen.

And for ages yeah usagi is very much an adult, has a child, stan says he an adult, and yet we still have people trying to argue for the comics or shows he adapted in going “noooo but you see the age gap isnt that big!” My brother in CHRIST ITS TEENAGE mutant ninja turtles. TEENAGE! I can kinda see where 2003 is coming from but its not cannon if usagi is a teen there. They dont ever state his age so stop spreading like its fact! And no one really listens to it because no one likes hearing that their favorite ship might be problematic.

And leosagi but its rise leo and yuchi usagi both are like the same age more or less so nothing problimatic there those who ship it are fine, i just really dont like the samurai rabbit show. Ive got no problem with yall i just dont want to see content relating to the show in any way shape or form.

Anyway im so happy to hear im not the only one who thinks this because i was beginning to think that maybe i was the odd one out here and over reacting but no.

that’s how I am with the tmnt fandom when I say I think leosagi is problematic now lemme explain on this

now just note I’m not in the tmnt fandom due to the problematic nature it has but I do like tmnt (my most favorite is the 2007 verison) but I am in the usagi yojimbo fandom and been trying to read the comics online and this is just my opinion cause I know I won’t change others minds I just like to express my opinions over the internet cause why not

but it basically frustrates me when I go to look up usagi content everyone is talking about shipping him with the turtles kinda gives me a ick

Especially since in the title teenage mutant ninja turtles there is teenage in the first sentence and the turtles always been told they were teenagers

and usagi is canonically said to be in his late 20s to early 30s now before you say “but 2003 usagi is a teenager” or something like now for 1 it does not say that anywhere I checked myself and it’s nowhere seen

And plus the main comics literally start as him being a adult and he acts like a adult in the adaptions I personally see 2003 usagi being a father figure or a older brother to Leo due to how they interact

now don’t think this is the only unpopular ship opinion I have I mean I shittalk about like shadowpeach in the past

so yeah basically

it’s hard to join fandoms without being attack for a opinion you have (it’s honestly personally why I don’t interact with fandoms most of the time people start to act like people in mental asylums some worse then others (COUGH COUGH GENSHIN IMPACT COUGH COUGH)

So what’s the lesson here?

don’t be a dick to people who have different opinions and if your scared to interact with the fandom due to opinions don’t if you like the franchise then be happy do what you do

caseys gender adventure starts when april and casey are left alone as the turtles go off to do main plot stuff and aprils just like "hey casey i heard your cisn't what do you identify as" yknow trying to be nice but instead casey just goes "what do you mean im casey???"

this goes on for five minutes just april trying to explain what she meant in a better way and Everytime casey just going im casey though what are talking about

even like the summers i was a teenager when i wasnt struggling with like psychosis or like mental illness, i still would stay inside a lot and just binge watch tv shows or whatever and i like i have no idea how i used to do that?? like the last time i like binge watched an entire show in the summer was when i was 20 and watched amc’s preacher and had a really intense hyperfixation on it.....wrow i just realized i always get a super intense hyperfixation in the summer.....when i was like 12 it was harry potter.....13 it was like bands and that sort of thing.....14 supernatural....15 teen wolf.....16 it was welcome to nightvale and also i had a resurgence in my homestuck hyperfixation.....17 it was repo! the genetic opera, creepypasta and teenage mutant ninja turtles (2012)......18 it was the x files.....19 was criminal minds.....20 it was preacher....21 was mgs and now at the tender age of 22 i am having a resurgence of my horror movie hyperfixation but im also super into house of 1000 corpses which is a new one!!! that’s kinda funky that i get a really intense hyperfixation every summer....i wonder why that is??? perhaps its because im like not in school constantly and have to preoccupy my mind with other things or else i die of boredom.....
