Terra Bassa, “The Jewel of the Emerald Isle”

Over a century and a half ago, the island of Alto-Mare was divided by four cities, each unique in essence and influenced by the regions found beyond Johto. Although Alto-Mare—the capital of the island for which it bears its name—remains the only inhabitable city, the rich culture of the three others still feature frequently in the tales detailing the history of the land.

Terra Bassa (or “low land”) was the largest of the three. With architecture reminiscent of its sister, the city features a labyrinth of canals and archways with nods to an unnamed culture (although evidence of cultures hailing from Hoenn and Galar are present in the city’s masonry). It lies to the east of the island, once being known as a hub for the performing arts, as well as for its gym dedicated to the Fairy-type. Due to its position below sea level, Terra Bassa was eventually evacuated and left for nature to reclaim. 

Surrounded by lush wilderness, the town has become a part of Alto-Mare’s extensive natural sanctuary, and it is illegal to venture beyond certain points of access around the city’s borders. The forest that separates Terra from the rest of the island—known as Di Smeraldo—is currently ruled by warring tribes: the Vileplume tribe who’s territory lies in the southern subsection, and the tribe of Bellossom that dictate the northern parts of the forest. Along the northernmost stretch of coastline is Viale Delle Fate, of the “Fairy Avenue”: a road running between Alto-Mare and Terra Bassa, lined with luxury mansions and palazzi that are now left in ruin.
