Yes it is a victorian tailoring dressmaking book but it is an incredible resource. In the beginning it tells you how to measure everything in your body so that you can draft/make your own patterns that FIT YOU!

You can then take those slopers/blocks and design all the things you'd ever want.

So my sister wants to start sewing more, because

a. She’s 5′ 11″ and can never find pants long enough for her legs or shirts long enough for her arms.

b. She hates synthetic fibers as much as I do and it’s difficult to find natural fiber clothes that aren’t made of cotton

c. She’s a biologist and would physically fistfight microplastics if given half a chance

So her gift from mom and dad for her birthday was a sewing machine. Not a super expensive one but a good solid serviceable one.

And recently she asked “So where do I GET wool or linen and thread that isn’t polyester” and mom was like ‘go ask your sister’

And I, of course, crashed into the group text like “GET A PEN I HAVE WEBSITES FOR U” and honestly I’m thrilled about this

Hey! Why do you like ilovelinen so much? Are they better than 1000TC sheets?

It feels amazing honestly. French linen sheets feel very lightweight and not heavy or thick yet they are warm for winter but also breezy during summer? It’s really hard to describe but they honestly feel amazing. I have a couple 1200TC sheets from Sheridan and they don’t feel nearly as good as french linen. I find with my Sheridan sheets, they feel thicker and heavier and make me sweat a lot during my sleep which is gross so the sheets then feel gross and I end up having to change my sheets once every 6-7 days as apposed to every 9-10 days which is how often I normally prefer to change my sheets. I also like the wrinkled effect you get from linen, just gives off such a vibe. They’re also antibacterial and hypoallergenic which is great as I tend to get allergies very easily from too much dust and my skin can get quite sensitive. I also loveeee bamboo sheets from Ettitude which I’ve raved about before. They have similar benefits to french linen such as hypoallergenic and feel light and cool. The feel of bamboo is similar to the feel of 1000TC sheets

Different op shops (and cities), same decade. I think I find this 50's colour palette particularly appealing because it's pretty much the colours of the linoleum in my childhood kitchen. I don't think there was any blue. The benchtops were that shade of red in laminex, though.
