Common name: Anglerfish (I'm mainly talking about general deep sea angler fish in this post)

Scientific name: Lophiiformes

Habitat: mesopelagic (twilight zone) and bathypelagic (the midnight zone) zones

Diet: crustaceans, small fish - they are carnivorous

Feeding habits: ambush predators

Classification: Ray-finned fish

Genus: Lophius

Conservation status: most species are considered least concern; only one species (the spotted handfish) is critically endangered.

Extra info: there are over 200 species of anglerfish.

What you think of when you typically think of an anglerfish are the females. They experience sexual dimorphism, the females being large and having a rod-like extension on their foreheads, unlike the males who are much smaller and don't have the rods on their heads.

They can swallow prey up to twice their size.

Male anglerfish latch onto the female and are eventually fused to the female, and lose their eyes, and all of their internal organs except their testes. The females tend to have five or more males fused to their bodies.

As this is bioluminescence Monday, I obviously have to mention the bulbs the females have attached to their heads. The light from the bulbs is caused by small glowing bacteria called photobacterium.

WIP Wthursday WOOOOO!!

i've been so busy with school which, at the very least, means i have lots of wips! it also means i don't have time to finish anything but shhhh

today i have for youuu... gasp. writing??? that's right. Pre-Heartbreak Chargestep Fic In Progress. it was meant to be a short little snippet and instead i've written just under 3000 words before getting to the goddamn point. so enjoy a little slice of that!

i have already given up on the project due wednesday and i think im gonna turn it in for june/july, hopefully turning it in way before then........

#z xarre #like the thing is that i have a class that im pretty sure i only have to take the second half of it?#so the first half of the semester im gonna have 4 classes only (hopefully)#so that would clear some time for me to work on this project con la calma.......#and like now since ive actually started on it i can keep the momentum going tbh #but doing an entire project with a budget and maps and irrigation plans and everything. IN TWO DAYS??? at the pace im currently working at?#absolutely not doable. BUT if i study for the exam on wednesday (bc yes i have to turn in a project on the same day i have the exam)#and then for either one or two of my exams next week. AND THEN get back on the project. then i think i can do it #bc im rly only gonna be taking seriously like... 2 maybe 3 classes #im not going to bio but ill have to study on my own. i have to do tech drawing bc if i fail again ill kill myself in front of the teachers #and then ornamentals class. which is w the same teachers as gardening. thats the one im gonna enjoy the most ik and im gonna take seriously #and then i hopefully wont have to retake ecology. i mean its an easy ass class ngl. it was middle school concepts #so anyways. gonna work a bit more on the project but im genuinely not turning it in on wednesday #bc when i do things i actually wanna do them right. the problem is OBVIOUSLY that i get started on them way way way later than i should

i dont know what to do...

#my bsf acts like i dont exist when they don't see me #it's really sad coz ik theyre doing it on purpose #when we're in our flat he sends me a million messages and reels but when we go visit family it all goes silent #when i message them they also either ignore me or reply with one word or just react to the message #it might sound like im exaggerating but i think he genuinely does it to spite me??#so this time i stopped texting after the first say of them leaving me on read and they havent said a word or sent anything in 3 days #its really weird coz when were at uni we do everything together #its his bday on wednesday and ive got some cool gifts for him but i dont even know what to write in his card #i just feel miserable.. and really alone #theyre probs gonna be nice again irl but its really draining at this point #i think i just have to learn to take them less seriously tho coz i dont want to end this friendship #it means too much to me #personal

I wanna write a Wednesday fic but all the shit with Percy White is still up in the air.

Might write something for Tyler, though. Idk... My thoughts are mixed. On one hand everything w White needs an actual ending. I know a lot of people are voting evidence that what was posted is not the entire truth but also I'd be stupid to ignore accusations when stuff like that is so common now.

Thinking about it... Maybe I'll write something and then release it when they either 1. Have something more reputable to prove this person is telling the truth (and not one of those bullshit 'apologies' we usually get that don't even address the real issue), 2. It's all true and he is replaced, or 3. There's evidence it's false.
