Destiel, Buddie: the great love patterns and one failure.

I'm going to highlight the patterns of baiting and good storytelling. Chim sounds like the Sam to Dean!Buck. Cas!Eddie and Claire/Jack!Chris.

WARNING: not a negative post, this is from a destielshipper!POV looking to something so beautiful like 9-1-1.

As someone pointed out: if Eddie was a girl they would've already get laid. Same thing with Dean if Cas was a girl.

(+ Josh and roomate!Albert - I know someone ships it xD) What I really enjoyed with Buck/Abby is the meaning of the storyline. D (who likes older women also) and B always get the part of having fun, and when it comes to express their feelings, not all their crushes understand their soul and they don't always admit those with themselves.

Abby: I think I was afraid that If I came back, I would become that person again. Because I missed you. I wanted to see you. But I didn’t trust myself.

Buck: Because being there, being with me, you might lose yourself again?

Shannon: I can’t fail him again, or you and I won’t. I’m still learning how to be someone’s mother and after that maybe I can be someone’s wife.

Who does understand them? The best friend. Cas and Eddie are the best friends to who they talk to, they can feel judged by but it doesn't really matter (or it DOES); they trust each other and feel safe.

The Abby-phase was very important 'cause B wanted to stop to think about just the sex part and really connect with the person, doin' romantic stuff, even VDay; feelings were in the game.

B really tried to find someone and always felt left behind. D had two important relationships, one with Cassie (yeah, that's fun) and I liked her -but he couldn't have a black girlfriend, right(?). Always felt left behind, by his father, by his brother, his mother’ memories were a lie.

When we first see Cassie, they didn’t see each other in a very long time and they get a reunion during a case.

Much like Eddie and Shannon.

Lisa and the weird-and-bad-written-originally story with Amara...who knew Dean bc of his 'dark' side. (Amara has found Cas and Dean’s profound connection and Dean was scared by her darkness connected to his anger and loniless).

At one point Amara will find Dean thanks to Cas's heart  just my reply to go fast  (while Cas was possessed by Lucifer- an annoying bitch who is used as a destiel bait)

We know Buck for his autodiagnosed sex addiction with women and Eddie as a married man with a son and wife not in the picture...and the episode- I'm so sorry, but the beginning of S2 with Buddie can't be described as two hets - there are tropes.

We start to fall for them and Chim with Maddie, wait- Sam!Chim and Eileen!Maddie.

Sam and Eileen’ first episode is basically a blind date on a hunt. They flirt and make a badass duo, she's deaf and super sassy and they're so sweet together. Many start to ship it asap.

I cried with Madney asap.

What does Maddie do since Buck start talking about Chris and Eddie? Yeah.

What does happen in Fanfiction with Sam (he’s a Maddie here) and when Saileen comes back on S15?

Bros shipping their bros with their best friends, mirroring them.

Madney have Buddie patterns.

Saileen is presented as a Het!Destiel parallel...and they can kiss.

Sam asks Dean if he could start thinking about settle down with someone who understand the life, another hunter. Eileen is a hunter. Cas is an angel - the one who raised him from perdition and got lost for his beautiful soul/hunter.

I LOVE that Eddie can be just a friend to Lena and Marjan, basically (I hope not to see this ruined in the future).

Now, over the line: Dean has a mother figure in Bobby!Jody and Jody is shipped with Athena!Donna (also good friend to Dean) and he's got a sister figure in Hen!Charlie.

Yes, C*W and Fox aren’t the same, and yes producers can make the difference. all SPN writers WEREN’T the problem, directors neither, not to mention the actors. 

C*W thrived on Destiel for 12 years, building a very good story that could’ve show two men accepting the love they deserved....but they failed, erasing every other (lgbtq, poc, disable) characters.

Fox doesn’t need more viewers but they WILL gain more of them showing Buddie because representation of a M/M ship with BI/PAN (I see Pan!Eddie) it’s a huge thing for TV and it matters. I always see gay love not many other possibilities, with Murphy mostly, he can make the change again.

Sorry for the long rambles but these are my answers!

7. Share a snippet from one of your favorite pieces of prose you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.

Oof. This is hard. There’s actually a lot of paragraphs that I like throughout the writing process. I can re-read and just pick which is my favorite, it’ll be different every time.

But, I think the thing currently going on with TW:OPT can be summed up in this Once Upon a Time… (I was being dumb and I thought prose is just poetry without rhyme)

So, this drabble is written on the run. There’s not really deep thought and I can’t even remember why I wrote it in the first place. From the date I posted it on Tumblr it was in the middle of Octavinelle Arc.

But, in this small crappy prose-poetry, it has one of the themes in TW:OPT: happy vs sad ending. This is something that I want to build since in the early stage. The theme of TW:OPT is second chances for the reincarnated villains, giving them a happy ending, something way better than the original ones.

So, if you look for example the two lines about the Queen of Heart:  

The Queen of Heart was forgotten by Alice like it was just a bad dream

The Queen of Heart will always be remembered by Alice as his dear friend and the greatest queen

The first line is what happens to the original Disney Alice’s Queen of Hearts, while the second line is what happens to Riddle, the current reincarnation of the Queen of Hearts. It’s a good change for Riddle’s life.

However, like everything, there has to be something to balance it. 

After all, good endings cannot exist without bad endings.

Can the good guys really live with the bad guys in harmony? After all, all Disney movie always has “good wins, evil lose” theme. If the “evil side” wins, wouldn’t that mean the “good side” loses? Is that even a good thing or even possible?

After all, the One-Eyed Captain found his happy ending to sail away once again. What will happen to him in his next life?

This line becomes the question. What will happen to the already-set happy endings? Would they just disappear to change into bad endings to keep the balance?

8. Share a snippet from one of your favorite dialogue scenes you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.

I’m debating between many dialogues, but I think the one piece I’m most proud of is in Chapter 97. I'm cutting a lot of the narration and just focus on the dialogues because it becomes too long.

Riddle: What happens that day? The day when everything went downhill. Azul: Didn't anyone tell you already? Riddle: I want to hear it from your or Jonah's mouth. What happened that you must curse him? Azul: Pretty simple, really. I told him not to come here that day, and he did To make it worse, that boy was stupid enough to go back against our agreement. Riddle: Just that? Azul: Oh, please, dear Crimson Ruler. I don't want to hear that from you. Have you forgotten about your reign before? Riddle: I know what I did was tyrannical, but I want to be better. Azul: Because of the captain told you too? Riddle: No. This is my choice to change. Just like it was your choice to curse him. He trusts you, you know? He knows that you wouldn't go back against your own words, which was why he was willing to sign another contract with you. Azul: If he trusts me that much, why is he against me? If he trusts me, why did he choose to save his stupid friends than agreeing with me? Tell me, Riddle Rosehearts...Why does he choose you instead of me?

We all know what happened during Octavinelle Arc and I don't deny that this sounds cheesy or slightly ooc. And let me just say this, there's no intention of this become a love triangle or whatsoever.

There are two things I want to highlight in this exchange: Riddle's growth and Azul's decline.

Riddle, after everything happened in Heartslabyul and Savanclaw arc, finally putting his foot down on where he wants to stand. He wants to be a better person, more than just the feared Crimson Tyrant. That's why he's helping them. Not because the boys are breaking the rules, not because someone tells him to, but Riddle is willing to risk it all, even his unique magic (as we see at the end of this chapter and the next) to save his friends. Again, this might sound ooc and I apologize, but from my perspective, this is a logical step of development for Riddle.

Meanwhile, Azul is showing more and more decline from this until the end of Octavinelle Arc even Scarabia Arc. For Azul who knows how easy people can leave and mock when you have nothing, seeing Jonah leave him and siding with the anemones is basically a betrayal. He can't think rationally when it comes to the betrayal and we see how brash he can be with anything related to Jonah throughout the arc where all of their interaction nearly kills Jonah.

If Riddle-Jonah is a coming-of-age story, Azul-Jonah is a broken friendship story.

9. Which fic has been the hardest to write?

This is a hard one to write. You might think I’ll just answer with TW:OPT, but honestly, all multi chapters fanfic has their own difficulties, so I can’t choose which is the hardest.

For Twisted-Wonderland: Our Precious Treasure, where I do treat this as a novel-writing practice, keeping the consistency with the theme, plot points, and characterization.

For Private Tutor, Angel of Death, Philza Minecraft, actually coming up with new ideas is hard because I don’t based this on anything, and just write anything once a week. In addition that I’m still new in Dream SMP fandom so characterization won’t be the strongest thing.

For both TWST MC Hybrid AU and Magical Girl AU, giving the massive cast equal spotlight and actually not getting lost is quite a challenge. Both AU has seven main characters and I need to give them the same amount to screen time.

And don’t get me started with those smut. I won’t be talking about it because I’m keeping it family friendly. Those has their own problems XD

10. Which fic has been the easiest to write?

As I said, every fic has their own problems, even one shot. So, I’m looking through my works and trying to figure out which fic I wrote the fastest but had the most fun.

I think I’ll go with A Wish for a Proposal because the comfort in this fic with Ace going heads over heels for Deuce and being doki-doki all the time. And the kiss under a shooting star, AH! Poetic cinema~

I do enjoy when I wrote how Ace thought keeping a toy ring as childish but he ended up using it to confess to Deuce and thinking that it’s not as childish as he thought.

13. What’s the best writing advice you’ve ever come across?

There are good writing advice that I had head, one of them came from On Writing: Great Character Descriptions! by Hello Future Me. He has so many good advices in writing and I highly recommend him.

He said that “when describing characters it’s good to focus on their movements that can tell the readers of who the characters are”. As someone who has many troubles in writing physical description, this is actually a great alternative, especially when you want to go thought the “show don’t tell”.

After watching the video I tried to write something. I ended up writing Jonah’s father, Benjamin, in Chapter 137

The owner of the inn was an old man who, coincidentally, also shared the 'Argentum' surname. Benjamin Argentum was a man with slouched back from the burden of the world, white strands on his reddish-brown hair and tired, but kind, black eyes. He walked slowly with his walking stick, claiming that his knees were never that strong since a cart accident during his younger days. The way he speaks was gentle like everyone's favorite uncle/grandfather, along with the delicious appetizer that he had prepared a few minutes ago on the reception table. The spices he used reminiscent of the spices Jonah used in his Ramshackle Kitchen. There was no way all of these were coincidences. Crowley wouldn't doubt if Jonah Argentum ever grew old, he would be looking exactly like the warm innkeeper.

I want to highlight how Benjamin is a kind old man ("He walked slowly with his walking stick, claiming that his knees were never that strong since a cart accident during his younger days”, ”The way he speaks was gentle like everyone's favorite uncle/grandfather”) but has his own problems (”a man with slouched back from the burden of the world”), and very similar to Jonah (”The owner of the inn was an old man who, coincidentally, also shared the 'Argentum' surname”, ”The spices he used reminiscent of the spices Jonah used in his Ramshackle Kitchen”, “Crowley wouldn't doubt if Jonah Argentum ever grew old, he would be looking exactly like the warm innkeeper.”)

It’s not the best descriptions, because most of the example used highlight only one most recognizable feature while my description highlight nearly everything. I still need some practice.

14. What’s the worst writing advice you’ve ever come across?

“Write what’s mainstream”.

Here’s my problem with it: sometimes anything that’s mainstream is not my thing. I like to challenge what we are given and give it a spin. 

I mentioned before that growing up with Indonesian TV Series that only centers around love, riches, and cheating, I grew tired of it. That was why I once tried to make a script for a group of friends creating a classical music band and mental problems. 

I’m not the first one to make an adaptation of TWST, but I think I’m one of the first, at least in AO3, that make an adaptation with Male MC. Among the Female MC or Female Readers story with a hint (or too much) of Romance, I want to give something for the small group who wants Male MC or something more platonic to read.

I always want to push slightly further, trying something that I haven’t seen at first glance, giving varieties. I will admit that would always doubt whether me writing something different is even worth it or not. But when I saw that yes, this is worth it, I gain more confidence and become bolder in my twist.

Going against the mainstream is risky, but we'll see whether it's worth it or not.

16. If you only could write one pairing for the rest of your life, which pairing would it be?

Oh no... Does it have to be a romantic pairing?

Okay. I don't really have an OTP. I mean, I like ROnah and JonAzul, but I don't think I can't live with writing only about them.

So, romantically, I don’t know. But, this doesn’t help with platonically either because I find enjoyment in writing all relationship. Just pushing the limit of my writing, you know?

So, I don’t think I can answer this because I’m a coward XD

27. How do you feel about collaborations?

A mixed bag.

So currently I'm in at least 2 collab projects: TWST MC Hybrid AU and Arisu in Alternate Wonderland. In the former, I'm the group leader, while in the latter, I'm just a writer.

Both sidea are different experiences. With AiAW, it's definitely lighter because this is basically retelling TWST but with seven Yuus. However because of this freedom and the possibilities of anything, I cannot predict whether my oc action will affects in the future or how they would interact with other ocs in the project.

With Hybrid AU, since this is a fantasy au, anything can happen. Plus as the main writer, I can see and plan clearly which event will be important and setting the characters' arc. It's definitely harder to organize because of the various idea that we want to write.

So, yeah. Collaboration can be two things for me: a scripted roleplay or a freestyle roleplay

35. Would you ever kill off a canon character?

39. Do you ever get rude reviews and how do you deal with them?

I remember when I was a kid, I wrote a fanfiction where it only features OCs, and someone gave a review, ranting about the lack of canon characters. I, of course, sulked a bit but then just keep writing.

However, what I usually do when it comes to comments is take them into considerations. During Scarabia Arc I got a comment that the Jonah-Azul therapy moment is kinda weak, and rereading it, I can see that. Which was why the next part of the therapy Arc I tried to connect them further. So compare the JonAzul scene in the last part of Chapter 124 with the first part of Chapter 126. At least for me, I prefer the latter because there's more intimacy.

About myself, I am an introvert, idk if you follow the personalities test thingy but I am INFP-T, which is basically this:

(The T stands for Turbulent and is just about me being on the lower self esteem spectrum of the personality)

I do tend to be more shy and quiet, around strangers and general people that I just don't get along with, I prefer to simmer on my emotions and thoughts by myself, and once I've process I share with whoever is willing to listen. I don't like when people start pushing me about the meaning of my feelings when I'm not ready to express them.

However, I am a very feeling-based-decisions type of person.

I grew up taking care and responsibility for my sisters, and I was in charge of babysitting a lot of my baby cousins during extended periods of time, that gave me a weakness to babies but low patience to brats and their parents. Also, now that I don't take care of anyone that actually needs to be taken care of, I'm kinda restless.

I try to be polite to everyone, because I hate bullying, but only once I feel comfortable enough I show my quirky, and weird part of myself, I am a gossip (however, I don't spread rumors nor do I tell secrets that were confided to me), loyal to a fault (which sometimes leads to being spiteful if I'm betrayed) and a hopeless romantic to the core.

I am touch starved, like very very mcuh, I just want cuddles, kisses, hugs and physical affection, but I also need my space and time for myself to do my own stuff. (Is it just me or that sounds like a cat?)

I'm somewhat lazy, I daydream a lot, and I come up with a bunch of writing ideas that I never really write or finish.

My favorite color is pink because it reminds me of the good parts of my childhood, my rebel time as an angsty teen and now it brings me peace and familiarity, however I like to wear more red and black clothing because I think I look better in that.

My perfect date would be a sleepover either in my house or his house, we would order takeout from his favorite place but we would get my favorite desserts. We would watch a Dreamworks movie marathon previously agreed by rock, paper, scissors (he won, but ultimately he chose my favorite movies) and we would snuggle together in a pillow fort in front of the TV. After each movie we would share commentary in how the plot would've been better, or the actors performances, our favorite scenes, characters or anything really. Afterwards, in the middle of the night, when all the movies are over we would just start talking about everything and anything, maybe share one or two kisses but nothing more until one of us falls asleep.

The thingd I look in a partner are fidelity, patience, words of affirmation, trust, stability, and affection, a little bit of lust and possessiveness isn't bad for me, I like to feel that I belong somewhere, with someone and if my partner can be that for me would be ideal, also, I don't like being teased or mocked because I'm very sensitive, preferably someone calm that can ground me when I'm stressed or lost inside me without being mean about it, basically a man that can help me making me feel safe about myself and safe in the relationship (my ex was rather abusive and I just want stability and safety)

THE HANDSOME MAN IN A SUIT! JUMIN HAN!

When you first met, he found it a bit strange about how quiet you were. At first you were pretty quiet in the chatrooms, but after a few days he began to see more and more of you.

One night while you were in bed writing, you received a call from Jumin. Normally you'd be pretty shy to talk to him, but you decided to be brave and answer.

At first it was a bit awkward, but for some reason listening to Jumin made you want to get to know him a bit more. The two of you ended up talking for two whole hours.

One night you invited Jumin over to watch a movie together. The poor man had never seen the wonderful and beautiful thing that is all the Shrek Movies.

It was amazing.

Jumin actually gave some pretty deep commentary, and you loved talking about your favorite parts of the movie once it was done. Jumin couldn't help the big smile that appeared on his face and you suddenly stopped your rant about the movie, feeling suddenly a bit self conscious. Were you weirding him out?

You immediately mumbled an apology, feeling hurt, but Jumin grabbed your hands and kissed them. "No, no, please don't think I'm laughing at you. I just...well....to be honest I've never found myself captivated by someone....yet here I am, unable to tear my eyes away from you. You...you are truly a wonderful person you know?"

That day you had your first kiss.

The two of you had a really cute dynamic, with Jumin being the one that always solved everything by logic, and you being the one that always followed your heart. You two ended up helping each other a lot!

Whenever you feel down or tired, Jumin only has to take one look at you and will immediately come over to hug you. He won't ask about anything unless you want to talk about it. He's super observant, so he always knows how you're feeling without you having to tell him.

Another thing, is that you've helped this man take more care of himself. Whenever he's overworking, you'll come up to his office and wrap your arms around him, telling him to take a quick break.

Also, did you say you were almost like a cat? Because this man absolutely loves cats and just adores it when you come up to cuddle with him.

Jumin knows when you give you space, and he is always there if you need someone to comfort you. He is also extremely loyal (and protective too! -not in the creepy DONT TALK TO OTHER GUYS way- but he always makes sure you have body guards when you leave, and if he finds someone staring at you funny he will suddenly come up to you and kiss you.)

If you're ever stressed and dealing with any problems, he will take you by the hands and lead you to the balcony, where he will guide you through some breathing exercises. Then, when you've calmed down he will talk to you about the problem and give you solutions.

If you need time by yourself Jumin will definetly step away for a bit and come back when you're ready!

At dinner time he humors you by talking about any office drama he's heard about (recently he's been asking Jaehee to keep track of those sort of things so he can tell them to you -also he's definitely become invested but won't admit it pft)

Over all, Jumin will always take your feelings into consideration first, and he will make sure to always be there for you!

Narnia Week, Day 1

Favorite character(s) from this book?

This will come as no surprise to you all, but my favorite character in EVERY Narnia book is Aslan <3 I’m gonna sound like a broken record saying that in every one of these posts lol.

After Aslan, Lucy. I love the sense of childlike wonder that you get with LWW seeing things through Lucy’s eyes. Throughout the series, I love her deep connection with Aslan, which begins in this book, and her love for Aslan in general. 

Shoutout also to the Beavers. They knew this old prophecy and knew that things in Narnia were changing. They were seeing a prophecy of old unfold before their very eyes. The king of Narnia, who hadn’t been seen in Narnia in at least a hundred years, probably more, had appeared, and was building an army. These 4 kids walk into Narnia, completely bewildered, and the Beavers know that these 4 kids are the future kings and queens of Narnia, destined to be part of the Witch’s defeat. 

And what do they do? They basically decide that they are their grandchildren now and adopt them. I’ve always loved the sense of informality, both in the book and movie, between the Beavers and the Pevensies. The Beavers would have KNOWN that these kids are the future rulers of Narnia, and yet they just loved on them and fiercely protected them. <3

If there is a screen adaptation of this book, what do you like most about said adaptation? Does it do the book justice? What would you change?

The Walden LWW movie is an absolute masterpiece. As far as book-to-movie adaptations go, it’s honestly one of the best I’ve ever seen. Not because it follows the book exactly, necessarily (although it does a pretty fantastic job of that), but because it really makes Narnia match just what you saw in your head when you read the books. That was Andrew’s goal in doing this movie--living up to his own childhood imagination of what Narnia was like. He knew that he had to try to top the image of Narnia that kids have when they read the books, and I think he did an absolutely beautiful job bringing that to life. I know Lewis wasn’t big on movies, but I think he’d have been beyond proud of this movie. 

The casting is absolutely perfect. The chemistry the Pevensies have as CHILD actors is amazing. Little Georgie was such a precocious little girl that I don’t think they could have cast a better Lucy for this movie, and the way she connected with others--her screen siblings, James McAvoy, etc.--is really incredible. One of my favorite Georgie moments in this movie is the moment Aslan steps out of the tent. Just the look of surprise and joy on her face... acting beyond her years. 

The entire atmosphere of this movie is incredible. It literally IS Narnia. One scene I have to talk about in particular is the battle scene. The sound editing. The FOR NARNIA AND FOR ASLAN. The acting. I get chills even thinking about it. It honestly has the feel of a battle scene from a classic movie from years before its time, it’s just so epic and touching and chilling. 

And, the music. Harry G-W. I love that man for this soundtrack, and the PC one. He really outdid himself. The battle song is amazing, but I’m partial to “Only the Beginning of the Adventure” (the title of which he very clearly took from that last line of LWW, even though it wasn’t even in the movie. Gold star for him). Years and years later I’m still listening to this soundtrack, and I will be for the rest of my life, I imagine. 

The ONLY things I’d have changed about this movie--I wish the Aslan scenes had stayed just a little bit closer to the book. For instance, I love the scene where Lucy and Susan are running around playing with Aslan after the Stone Table. That scene just has this brilliantly sunny, joyous, glorious feeling to it. For those who have read Surprised By Joy, that scene is a “signpost” for me ;) Plus, Aslan comforting Susan with a lion’s kiss when she is afraid he’s a ghost. Just. The Aslan scenes in the movie are great, but the ones in the book will always hold a special place in my heart. 

What about this book stands out most in your memory? Are there specific scenes, feelings, themes, or ideas that have stuck with you the most?

Gosh there’s so many scenes that I’m just going to list them. I love the scene of Lucy and Susan running around with Aslan at the Stone Table, as I said above.

The moment when the Pevensies and Beavers greet Aslan for the first time, and Peter is scared to say anything, but then he does, and Aslan’s voice takes the trembling out of them. I was actually just thinking last week about that quote where it says that “if they had ever thought that something couldn’t be good and terrible at the same time, they were cured of it now--” because I think that just holds such important spiritual meaning. 

A few of you already know that my favorite quote from LWW is the seagull one. I haven’t told this story before, but I guess I will here (no idea if anyone will even read this far lol). When I read that quote for the first few times, the “Oh, the cry of the seagulls! Have you heard it? Can you remember?” When I read that the first few times, I misinterpreted it. I understand now that Lewis was saying, “have you heard this before in your own life? Can you remember what that sounds like? That’s what it sounded like to them.” 

I, however, interpreted that quote as Lewis somehow saying that you, the reader, had been to Narnia before. It felt as if he was suggesting that you had been to Narnia before, and it was just around some corner in your memory, and he was telling you this story to remind you. As if you yourself had been there and witnessed the events of LWW and the coronation of the Pevensies... do you remember? Do you remember the glory of that day? Do you remember Cair Paravel? Do you remember the cry of the seagulls? It’s just around the corner of your memory--you know in your heart you’ve been there before. Do you remember? 

It feels a lot like in Dawn Treader when Lucy reads the story in the book and then can’t go back and reread it. And she asks Aslan to tell her the story again, and he responds that he will be telling it to her “forever” or something. In the way I interpreted that quote, it felt like Lewis was saying “you’ve been here before. Oh, do you remember?” And maybe that’s foolish of me for interpreting it that way, but honestly? I like that interpretation better. And to this day, that quote always sends chills down my spine for that reason. It makes it seem as if Narnia is right around the corner somewhere. 

Any memories from the first time you read this book?

So LWW is actually the only Narnia book that I have tangible memories of reading. I believe what happened is that my mom gave me the book because we were going to see the movie, and she wanted me to read it first. I believe she was afraid I’d be scared at the Stone Table scene, so she had me read up until that chapter, and then she read it to me so that if I got upset, she was there and we could talk about it and she’d know if I was scared or not. So I very clearly remember sitting in the front room at my old house reading this chapter with my mom. <3 I believe we talked about who Aslan represents that night, and about the significance of the Stone Table scene. I don’t know if that’s the night I found out that Aslan represents Jesus, but it may have been.

It’s time for adventure! To find the fabled 10 Points! ...a treasure is fine, too. ^^

Ok, so, yesterday I stumbled upon a fan art that depicted Héctor Rivera alongside a mummy character that honestly looked fairly adorable; I search around and I discover this movie about adventures in Peru. So, today I’ve decided to watch the first episode what is actually a movie series, and hopefully we’re able to find some hidden treasures, so... let’s dig in, shall we?

1) Ok, baby Tad is honestly as cute as a sunbeam! Something about his sincere enthusiasm for digging and finding treasures feels like such genuine childlike wonder! 

2) Oh, I get it! Sara Lavrof sounds like Lara Croft! She even kinda has her attire! That’s some good reference. ^^

3) Hey, it’s Killian’s less charismatic brother! Ok, he’s fairly competent, but he’s blonde and blue eyed, so of course he’s a villain; sorry dude, you can’t beat the australian charm! ^^

4) Ok, see, I actually really like how Tad is presented: while he’s impulsive and gets lost in his fantasies, he’s very competent in what he does. He’s never been an actual archeologist, but he deploys a good use of that job’s know how, is quick on his feet, and it’s implied that he’s actually a good builder, just easily distracted. I love how just because a character is energetic, doesn’t mean they’re stupid. Also, look at how unfazed and unperturbed he is at getting fired: as someone who gets easily beaten down by sad outcomes, especially as of lately, I can really learn a lot from him.

5) Ok, I love that song, but isn’t “One Direction” kinda out of place, right now? You’re just riding llamas, guys... XD

6) Still surprised that thing was still intact even inside his stomach! Poor doggie...

7) You’ve dug for 17 hours and didn’t realize the professor’s been lying all that time? Either that man is VERY convincing with his lies, or you guys are just incompetent. :T

8) Can’t blame her for being mad: she’s been lied to by two of the people she trusted most. I’d feel pretty upset too.

9) Oh, there he is! One minute he’s slaying baddies with a fire boulder and a rock mecha, and dealing with this jerk with royal autority... the other he’s clapping happily at his plan, hugging Tad (while not understanding his handshake offer) and rubbing his arm awkwardly in farewell. So precious! *3*

10) “Money isn’t important!”

“I’m too broke to believe that!”

That was one of the best exchanges in the entire movie! XD

Ok, so the movie is over and, to be honest?

I had a lot of fun!

Ok, so I wouldn’t put this at the same level of Disney or Pixar, but this movie isn’t trying to reach them, it’s just telling its story while having fun with it, and I honestly felt pretty engaged by it. While Tad did have his liar moments, I actually liked how he was written, with his faults and likable qualities to him. Sara and Freddy are fine as characters, had their good moments, the blonde baddie was competent, if a bit basic, and Max’s twist was expected but he fared pretty well as a villain (cool comeuppance, by the way). Am I the only one who felt that Max and that blonde dude were related? Just me?

And then there’s the Mummy: he didn’t have a lot of screentime, but for the scenes he had, he was a delight, being awesome in his moments of protection and snark, while being surpisingly endearing in his more awkward moments with the rest of the cast. Apparently he’s got more scenes in the second movie, so I’ll definitely watch it especially for him, because in those fan art I’ve seen he struck me out as a very lovable character, and as far as what I’ve seen, that’s very much the case. ^^

So, I’d say that it was a pretty good watch; I recommend it if you’re ever in the mood for some explorer aesthetic movie and likable characters! :D

I guess since I portray Adrien as really affection- and touch-starved, he tends to get worked up easily when he experiences the intimacy of being pet or massaged by someone he has feelings for (like in Daisy with Marinette).

So, this is basically a little over two thousand words of fluff and insecurity-soothing and taking care of Adrien. The “sexual content” is mild, brief, and implied, but not explicit. Adrien’s shirt comes off, but all other clothing items stay on. I’ll post this as an omake chapter of Shades after I finish posting the main story, so you’ll see it on AO3 in a couple weeks.

Omake: Integration

“Come on,” Luka snickered as he guided Marinette (who still had her tongue halfway down Adrien’s throat) toward the door at the far end of the great-room, past Adrien’s couch. “The bedroom’s this way.”

Somehow, Luka managed to get the jumble of limbs that was Adrien and Marinette through the door without anyone knocking anything over or bumping an appendage on anything.

As soon as the bedroom door was closed, Marinette pulled back with a heady smile.

Adrien, eyes still half-lidded, chased after her with a whimper of protest.

Marinette responded by pulling off Adrien’s shirt.

Adrien took a startled step back into Luka. He looked up uncertainly. “I thought…we were going to take it slow? I mean…since we just decided that we were all dating fifteen minutes ago and I’m—” His voice caught, and he looked down at his feet. “…damaged.”

Luka wrapped his arms around Adrien from behind and gently swayed them both from side to side. “You’re just a little emotionally banged up, not ‘damaged’, P5…. And we are going slow. Isn’t that right, Chanson?”

Luka shot Marinette a meaningful look that Adrien didn’t see.

She put her hands up in mock surrender. “Right. It’s not like I was going to take my clothes off or your clothes off…just Adrien’s shirt. You know. So it’s easier to give him a backrub.”

“Right,” Luka snorted, knowing his girlfriend better.

“Okay,” Adrien sighed in relief, body relaxing slightly. “Okay. That’s okay, then. I just…am kind of worried I’m going to freak out or cry or something, and then you guys are going to change your minds, and I’m going to be alone forever, so…” Adrien gulped. “I’m just a little scared I’m going to feel overwhelmed.”

Luka tightened his hold on Adrien, dropping his head to give Adrien’s cheek a kiss and a nuzzle. “Shh. It’s okay, Angel. You know you’re safe with me, don’t you?”

Adrien nodded. “Yeah. Before, but…this is all really, extremely new, and new is kind of terrifying nowadays. New isn’t fun anymore.”

Marinette hesitantly stepped in. She wasn’t always sure how to approach Adrien only one month after their reunion, so she often found herself taking cues from Luka who was more familiar with post-apocalyptic-Adrien.

Marinette cupped Adrien’s cheek in her hand and ran her thumb over his cheekbone. “It’s okay to be scared, but know that Luka and I care about you so much, Adrien. We’d never let anything bad happen to you. We’d never hurt you.”

“Mm,” Adrien whimpered weakly in agreement.

“I’m sorry,” Marinette sighed. “I jumped the gun. Let’s…take it slow. Just snuggling and a little bit of making out. We go at your pace. Okay, Minou?”

Adrien’s face lit up at the nickname. He nodded, looking a little less spooked, a little less stressed.

“How about we start with cuddling on top of the covers?” Luka suggested. “I think someone deserves head pats and a backrub.”

A thrill of anticipation shot down Adrien’s spine.

He could feel his cheeks reddening as he looked back and forth between Luka and Marinette. “That…sounds really nice. But only if you guys don’t mind,” he hurriedly added, eyes flicking back to the floor. “Sorry. I don’t mean to make this all about me. I just—”

Marinette leaned in, placing her mouth over Adrien’s in a closed-lipped kiss.

She pulled back and looked him straight in the eye. “We want this to be all about you.”

“Oh,” Adrien breathed, astounded and wondering for the millionth time how he’d gotten so lucky that such a loving, selfless, generous couple like Luka and Marinette wanted to include him of all people in their relationship.

“Okay,” Adrien consented in a small voice that reflected how humble he was feeling.

Luka tugged them all gently over to the bed.

Adrien ended up half sprawled on top of Luka, using Luka’s stomach as a pillow while Luka’s hands worked their magic on Adrien’s head, fingers weaving through Adrien’s hair, finding all the spots that made Adrien go boneless.

Marinette was curled up on Adrien’s other side, her front pressed flush to him as her fingers located all the tense muscles in his back and coaxed them into releasing their grip on the stress they’d been stockpiling.

Adrien purred in bliss, his whole body vibrating as their hands turned him into a happy pile of mush.

Luka touched The Spot behind Adrien’s ear, and Adrien’s breath hitched.

He felt a familiar tension coiling in his gut, cutting through the haze of euphoria and setting off alarm bells. With Marinette’s fingers working miracles on the muscles of his back, Adrien sensed he wouldn’t be able to stand Luka touching The Spot for even half as long as normal.

Adrien had to cut things off now…but he didn’t want to.

“Guys…” Adrien moaned, voice sounding like they’d already ravaged him. “S-Sto—ah!”

His body gave an involuntary jerk as Marinette’s lips on his neck sent an electrifying jolt through his system. Unfortunately, this pressed the rapidly worsening situation up against Luka’s leg.

Adrien hissed and then gasped. “Stop. I’m gonna…”

He bit his lip, scrunching his eyes closed and trying to get ahold of his body.

Luka and Marinette’s hands went motionless, and then Luka was cupping Adrien’s face. “Shhh. It’s okay. If you say stop, we stop, but…we don’t have to stop.”

Adrien opened his eyes to stare up into Luka’s in surprise.

“Really,” Luka answered the unasked question. “Not a big deal. Clothes stay on. No expectations of anything more happening tonight. Just…either way. Whatever you want.”

Adrien’s teeth sank further into his lip. What he wanted was for Marinette and Luka to marry him and move into his apartment and cook meals with him and watch movies and snuggle and make love and have children and grow old with him and…but that seemed like a lot of strings to attach to this one moment when the three of them had only decided in the last hour that they wanted to officially be in a relationship.

“We love you, Adrien,” Marinette whispered against the back of his neck, pressing her lips gently to his skin.

“We love you,” Luka confirmed, leaning in to place a reverent peck to Adrien’s lips.

Adrien’s eyes started to tear up.

This couldn’t be real. This couldn’t actually be happening.

He wanted it too badly for it to be attainable.

“Even if you cry afterwards, we’re still going to love you,” Luka assured. “I’ve seen you ugly cry before, and I’m still here, aren’t I?”

Adrien’s throat and sinuses started to burn. “Yeah, but she hasn’t.”

Marinette snuggled in closer, giving Adrien a squeeze from behind. “You’ve sacrificed yourself for me how many times, Chaton? You’ve proven your strength and your bravery and your valor dozens of times over. Nothing you do is ever going to make me love you less, Adrien.”

Adrien could feel himself cracking on the inside.

This couldn’t actually be reality.

She pressed another kiss to the junction of his neck and shoulder. “Do you want us to stop?”

“No,” Adrien answered, voice steady and sure. “Don’t stop, please.”

Luka exhaled audibly. “Okay. All right.”

“We’ve got you,” Marinette promised, mouth starting to mark Adrien’s neck as her hands resumed work on the knots in his shoulder blades.

Luka’s fingers started twisting their way through Adrien’s hair once more, massaging his scalp, as Luka deposited butterfly kisses on Adrien’s eyebrows and cheeks and chin and eyelids and nose.

The hot pressure in Adrien’s gut was back in an instant in full force, and he didn’t try to fight it this time. He gasped and moaned and threw his head back and sighed and panted, letting himself just be present in the moment without any kind of mental commentary as Marinette and Luka’s hands set his body on fire.

And then, in a flash of searing, blinding pleasure, the tension was gone, and Adrien slumped against Luka, breathing hard but perfectly content. His body felt heavy, but Adrien was surprised to find that that was perfectly fine because Adrien never wanted to move again. He wanted to stay in bed with Marinette and Luka for the rest of his life. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d been that blissfully happy…if he’d ever been that happy.

Luka and Marinette’s pace slowed into gentle, careful, loving caresses as they waited for Adrien to come back down to Earth.

Adrien’s eyes eventually slid open and met Luka’s.

“Hey,” Luka whispered, pressing a kiss to the bridge of Adrien’s nose between his eyebrows.

Marinette added a peck to Adrien’s jaw. “Doing okay?”

Adrien opened his mouth to respond, but a choked sob came out instead.

They rolled him over and carefully propped him up, each taking a side as they wrapped their arms around him and made comforting shushing noises.

“S-Sorry,” Adrien gasped as soon as he found the breath to. “Sorry. It’s…Before, I never thought that I’d have even a taste of this, and, now, I’m terrified of screwing it up and losing you. Sorry. I’m really emotional right now.”

“I think you underestimate how much we want you,” Marinette chuckled sensuously. “How long and how much we’ve wanted you.”

Adrien felt like he was on a leash that had suddenly gone taut, yanking him backwards. “W-What?”

“You’ve been on our wish list for years,” Luka explained into Adrien’s hair. “And neither of us ever thought we’d have you…but…low and behold who we’ve managed to lure into bed with us.”

“And we’re pretty terrified of losing you too,” Marinette added with a squeeze. “You’re not the only one feeling apprehensive.”

“The only thing we’re absolutely positive about is that we want you in our lives,” Luka confessed. “No matter what.”

“No matter what,” Marinette echoed.

Adrien chuckled nervously. “It sounds like you’re both on the same page.”

“We’ve talked about this,” Luka informed. “…at length over the past few years.”

“Oh,” Adrien responded eloquently. “Well…it actually sounds like we’re all on the same page…. We all want each other, and we’re afraid of wrecking it.”

“Yep,” Marinette sighed.

“Cool,” Adrien snickered. “It’s nice to know that I’m not the only one emotionally invested in this.”

“Far from it,” Luka snorted.

There was a beat of silence where they all absorbed this revelation, and then Marinette cut in: “Anyone want to make out now?”

“Yes,” the boys answered as one and then chuckled sheepishly.

Luka pulled Adrien back so that they were flush against one another with Adrien facing Marinette.

Marinette eagerly slipped into Adrien’s arms, quickly fitting herself to the contours of his body so that the three of them were like one interlocking puzzle.

Marinette’s lips found Adrien’s while Luka busied himself with decorating Adrien’s neck and shoulders with a series of love-bites resembling music notes.

They switched after ten or so minutes so that Luka’s lips were on Adrien’s while Marinette added little hearts and curlicues to Adrien’s skin.

The make-out session soon turned languid as the participants tired, and they ended up in a knot of limbs, warm and happy.

“I want cookies,” Marinette announced.

“Is that a euphemism?” Luka snickered.

Marinette reached around Adrien to pinch her boyfriend on the nose. “No. I literally want cookies, you goof. I’m making some,” she announced, extracting herself from the puppy pile.

“May I have some, or are they just for you?” Adrien wondered.

Marinette pretended to think about it for a moment before grinning back at him. “I’ll share. Why don’t you go get cleaned up and then meet us out in the kitchen? I’ll make cookies and hot chocolate, and then we can snuggle on the couch and watch…I don’t know…Ouran High School Host Club or something?”

Adrien turned to Luka and smiled dreamily. “I love her.”

“I know, right?” Luka chuckled. “I’m willing to share if you are.”

Adrien grinned evilly. “Marinette or the cookies? Marinette, I’ll share, but she only agreed to share the cookies with me. Kinky TB Adventures (probably) with Okita Part 1: Kyoto Winds

Finally playing another Hakuoki route because I spent 10 hours travelling yesterday and I deserve some imaginary romance, damn it! Choosing Okita because he seems fun and I hate that he disappears from the story pretty early on in most routes and then dies off screen :'(

Intro:

I don't know why but Kodo's evil old man face made me laugh so much during the intro.

Playing the prologue because it has a hearty chunk of Okita in it and it's been a while since I played the game.

I'm loving this old timey film effect on the Kodo flashback.

I feel like Kodo's actions and motivations change depending on the route so I'm not going to try too hard to wrap my head around them here.

I love that "Ronin" is basically shorthand for "Evil Douchebag Thug" in this game X_X

Yukimura: "Be careful, father! Kyoto is a dangerous place!" Also Yukimura: "I have nothing to fear because I look like a BOY :) " Selfless but foolish X_X Although, you could argue that being reckless is selfish because it disregards your loved ones' feelings, should you get hurt.

At least the game gives these ronin names :') although... they don't have eyes. I think I'd rather have eyes, if I had to choose.

This game invested a lot in blood effects and sounds and I respect and appreciate that.

Aka: how three different animals react to the discovery that their prey is a girl. I know that horses don't hunt prey. However, they do have to deal with it when their animal subordinates unwittingly capture it.

When I first played this game, I was really keen to find my "father" but now that I know what he's like, it's hard to muster quite the same level of enthusiasm X_X

Out of curiosity, if you had to pick, what would be your favorite scenes from DragonBall Z?

Oh wow! That’s a pretty bloated one. lol I’m pretty sure I’m going to miss a few, but here’s some off of the top of my head. 

*Vegeta’s atonement scene. I know, I know. It gets mentioned all of the time and I know people are tired of Vegeta right now, but it’s SUCH a great, emotional scene and such a pivotal moment for him as a character and his story. And I like that it wasn’t overly sappy and his hug was pretty barebones, but it’s very fitting of his character. One of the issues I have with DBZ is that while I LOVE redemption characters, I feel like a lot of them come way too easy. In reality, it can be very difficult to break a worldview you’ve had since you were young, especially if it’s literally how you were raised. And you could tell that even though it was small, it meant the world to Trunks who he’d kept at an emotional distance until then. I could go on forever about this scene and the ones after (him accepting that he’s going to Hell, his inner speech about how he was doing it for those he loved (Yes. Even you, Kakkarot.), his smile, as well as Piccolo remembering him afterwards), but I don’t want to bore you (if I haven’t already. :P)

*Speaking of Majin Buu, his scenes with Mr. Satan were so great and so unexpected. We’re used to the beaten bad guy learning the error of their ways after being defeated by Goku, but this was the first time that we actually see a villain actually having a very childlike frame of mind in that they were just doing what they were told. Not to mention that it was Mr. Satan of all people who did....and simply by asking. And the subsequent scene where we get a friendly reminder of the darkness of humankind, and for the first time in the series see a no-nonsense side of Mr. Satan who is rightfully pissed off. We also see a bit of his true strength firsthand where he not only makes quick work of the fiends, but kicks a freakin bazooka several feet away. It’s just great all around.

*And to piggyback off of that scene, when the gunman returns and shoots Mr. Satan, basically killing him were it not for Buu, but him being healed isn’t enough to repair the damage that was done. In the English dub in particular, I remember just how well the voice actor for Buu did in portraying his anguish and I really, really felt that scene.

*Another good really emotional scene that was done phenomenally was Gohan’s death in Trunks’ timeline and Trunks discovering his body. The setting, the tone, everything about that scene was done so well. And even though it deviated from the manga, I think having that actually be the trigger for his Super Saiyan transformation made it that much more impactful.

*Cell’s introduction is another very good, and I feel, underrated scene. Probably one of the best villain intros in the entirety of Dragon Ball, I feel, if not THE. It played out so much like a horror movie and was done extremely well. The entire mystery surrounding this new creature that was attacking cities and leaving them completely empty and desolate with not even bodies to be found. That entire buildup as well as when Piccolo is looking for him in the empty city, searching around corners and we kind of see him lurking. It has very real tension to it and, like I said, is very reminiscent of a very well done horror movie and I love it so much! 

*Goku meeting Goten for the first time was such a cute moment. It was so simple, yet heartwarming.-Same with the scenes at the end of Z where Goku is hanging out with Pan and we see how bonded they are. 

*Also, I LOVE filler. Not the “let’s spend 20 minutes of this episode recapping what happened last episode” type, but the legit filler where we kind of see what the characters are life in real life outside of battle, especially how they interact on interpersonal levels. IDK....I always love those little slice of life moments thrown in. 

*This is technically still DBZ, but the Battle of Gods movie where Dende is explaining how all of the Saiyans there had good hearts, including Vegeta. And so everyone just like....gives him a standing ovation for not being an asshole anymore. It’s so ridiculous and stupid that it’s amazing! xD Also, Gohan’s reaction to finding out Videl is pregnant, specifically in the movie, is so absolutely adorable and heartwarming! And how everyone stops to clap for them and offer their congratulations. 

Ah.....I know I’m missing a LOT, but I can’t remember everything clearly (especially not the Saiyan and Namek sagas, which I haven’t seen in FOREVER). Maybe I’ll add more as I remember. Though.....maybe it’s for the best considering what a windbag I am... (^^’) Sorry about that, but greatly appreciate the questions!

Godzilla: King of the Monsters SPOILER Review!

WARNING! SPOILERS BELOW! IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS YET, GO AWAY! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

I made a post just yesterday defending Godzilla: King of the Monsters from the harsh criticism the film has received since it’s release over the weekend. I stand by what I said: I think the critical reviews have really hurt the film’s reception in an extremely negative and undeserved way. Now, that’s not to say the film is a perfect one! It has its positives and negatives, and I’m going to go in-depth into them in this review. I’m also going to be making theater experience comparisons to other movies I’ve seen in the past to help you understand where this film falls under my spectrum. This is absolutely my sole opinion, but I just want to clear some of the air and really give everyone my thoughts on this film.

I’ve gotten to see the film twice now, the first on opening night, and the second about five hours ago. The first time I went in as a huge Kaiju nerd, excited and anticipating the film which I hoped would be the blockbuster of the summer. I’d even go so far as to say that I was more hyped for this than Avengers: Endgame. I watched Ghidorah: The Three-Headed Monster, Kong: Skull Island, and Godzilla 2014 prior to going to see this movie. I was prepared to witness glory incarnate. 

And I did. Can confirm, my mind was blown. I walked out of that first showing with a stupidly huge grin, possibilities whirling in my mind, and a fierce excitement to see it again. We got a bunch of easter eggs in addition to seeing some of my favorite Kaiju on the American big screen for the first time. I got everything I wanted and I felt very positive about it all.

Godzilla and Ghidorah OWN this movie. Not only did I get way more Godzilla than in 2014, but I got to see Ghidorah shine. That dragon is such a savage, showing every bit of maliciousness he’s known for and even when Godzilla gets juiced up towards the end of the film, he takes every hit thrown at him and pays it back. This Ghidorah takes no bullshit from anybody. He deals it out, and he deals it out with extreme prejudice. Everything from his design, sound effects, the unique behavior and interaction between his three heads (I LOVED that, btw) is so goddamn good and I can’t express enough how much you should go see the movie if only to see the kaiju do their things. 

Now Rodan, my boy Rodan! You were once one of the goofiest looking Kaiju I’d ever set eyes on, but my god you got a makeover in this movie. Legendary’s Rodan is a monster in the skies, and you can see that without any trouble. When the planes start to fire missiles at him, he shrugs it off and seems to be more annoyed than anything. Actually, he kind of just plays cat-and-mouse with the jets when he’s pursuing the Argo (The big jet, kind of like a stealth bomber. My dad would disown me for just calling it that because he works in aerospace XD) and only when they completely surround him does he eventually get fed up with the jets and executes a mean barrel roll to essentially bitch-slap all of them (yes, all of them- he kills the entire squad) out of the sky. That was an awesome shot. 

Last but certainly not least, Mothra. This incarnation of Mothra is by far the most aggressive, but still retains a lot of the classic kaiju features. She’s beautiful to see and when they started playing her music theme I got so excited. This Mothra also has a few tricks up her sleeve! I was very, very surprised when she whipped out a stinger of all things! But she showed a lot of loyalty to Godzilla in protecting him from Ghidorah and eventually transferring her power to him after Ghidorah kills her (of course she dies, it’s Mothra :(  BUT there’s another egg in the end-credits, so maybe we’ll get more Mothra in Godzilla vs Kong!). Another detail I didn’t actually notice the first time watching this was when Godzilla went Thermonuclear and blasted Ghidorah with atomic pulses, the pulses sounded like Mothra’s cries and gave off patterns similar to Mothra’s wings. I thought that was very cool!

Also, one thing I wasn’t expecting to enjoy were all the kaiju Legendary made up for the movie. As much as I would have loved to see more Toho kaiju, (I wanted Anguirus so bad lol) the designs for these kaiju, brief as they were, were awesome to see. We got a number of new minor kaiju with their own unique designs, ranging from the mammoth-ground sloth hybrid Behemoth, the mountain-backed Methuselah, and even a massive MUTO similar to the ones from the 2014 film, but with her own unique features. I’ve heard some people call this one MUTO Prime, but I think that might be a reference to a Godzilla comic that was released not too long ago. I think it was called Godzilla: Aftershock. Don’t take my word on that, I haven’t gotten to check it out yet. I could be totally wrong. 

But anyways, I loved all of my kaiju, even the new ones! I’d love to see more of them, even if it’s just little bits and pieces!

Onto the human characters. Yes, your favorite part of this review. Yes, I am being absolutely sarcastic, but to be fair, I personally think the actors did a great job. Of course it’s a Godzilla movie and the plot line is a little wacky, but everyone from Millie Bobby Brown to Kyle Chandler (and especially Ken Watanabe) played their characters very well. The acting was spot-on. I couldn’t really bring myself to truly hate any of the characters. There were some questionable choices, yes, but the actors themselves played their characters very well, I think. 

Now of course, I’ve had time to sober up a bit and the second showing let me think a bit more about the movie and its problems. I’ve boiled it down to three main issues: First, the humans take up too much time. Two, I wanted more kaiju (specifically Mothra). And three, the fights kept getting cut in the middle of the action.

King of the Monsters struggles with the same issue that Godzilla 2014 had in that it actually doesn’t have enough monsters. I’m not talking about monster battles- it has that in spades, (though I found myself wanting even more of that, as well) but I found it lacking when it came to some of the kaiju themselves. The first half of the movie rolls out exactly like I wanted. It starts with a bang and just immediately starts to move. It’s fast, catastrophic, and visually stunning. 

That visual awe, by the way, is something that is maintained throughout the entirety of the film. If you want to see some of the most amazing shots you’ve ever seen in a movie, then this is the one. 

The problem with King of the Monsters starts mostly in the second half of the film, just after King Ghidorah rises from the ocean victorious in his latest battle against Godzilla. At this point, the film slows down and focuses far, far too much on the people. We know that the Titans are rampaging around the world, but we don’t see much of them. Even Ghidorah and Rodan (the latter of whom submits to Ghidorah’s authority after getting his ass beat) aren’t given much screen time to show what they get up to, which apparently flying over to Washington D.C and turning it into Ghidorah’s personal crib.

I would have LOVED to see Ghidorah and Rodan fly up to the capital and basically lay waste to the place, if only to add to their danger factors. They both present an immense threat, but it feels a bit subverted given how little screen time they have together while Rodan is under Ghidorah’s authority. 

But we slowed down and focused on the people, who were sent on a mission to heal Godzilla after the Oxygen Destroyer missile almost killed him. Granted, that is important, but it felt too stretched out for me to really enjoy it. I would have liked to see Mothra partaking more in helping Godzilla, especially since she gets so little screen time in the movie. 

That’s one of my biggest nitpicks as I stated before- I didn’t get nearly enough Mothra. We actually got more Rodan than we did Mothra. Don’t get me wrong, Rodan is one of my favorite Kaiju and this movie scales his baddassery level up so much, but I NEEDED more Mothra to really make the movie work better. Her design is gorgeous and her brief participation in the final battle is fine, but I wanted MORE of her. More of Mothra interacting with the people, with Godzilla, and with Madison (Millie Bobbie Brown).

Just more of Mothra. For a kaiju that plays such a key role in rebelling against Ghidorah’s Alpha status and protecting Godzilla, she doesn’t get remotely enough screen time. 

But let’s get back on track. The movie slowed down after the battle in Mexico concluded and Ghidorah became the Alpha kaiju. And in this, I felt in my second viewing, is really where the crux of the problem lies. Some of the human actions were very necessary and provided the meat of the plot, but a lot of the fat could have been cut out and replaced with kaiju instead. 

The scene with Serizawa (Ken Watanabe) and Godzilla was masterfully done, though. For those of you who aren’t diehard kaiju fans, Serizawa was the scientist way back in the original 50′s Godzilla films that killed Godzilla with the oxygen destroyer. In this movie, Ken Watanabe’s character, who is also named Serizawa, sacrifices himself to save Godzilla by detonating a nuclear bomb beside the Titan, which helps him recover his radioactive life force. 

“Goodbye, old friend.”

There’s something tragically sad about that quote and it was the most powerful moment in the film for me. Not just because it pays homage to the original Serizawa character, but because that really takes you back to the original Godzilla roots, when the kaiju was used as a metaphor for nuclear devastation. Serizawa is of Japanese origin and his father was killed by the bomb in Hiroshima (in the storyline). He sacrifices himself to save Godzilla and is killed by the nuclear bomb they use to jump-start the Titan. That echoes hard and reminded me where Godzilla came from in the first place. 

Godzilla gets juiced by the nuclear bomb and goes on the hunt to track down and slaughter Ghidorah once and for all. Cue one of the most epic monster fights you’ll ever see on the big screen...or it would have been, if they didn’t cut away every few seconds to focus on the people. It’s this repetitive sequence in the film that hurts its score the most for me. I don’t care about the people scrambling on the ground, or at least I don’t care enough to want to focus on them when Godzilla, Ghidorah, Rodan, and Mothra are scrapping in the background. 

Like hello??? Can I look at THAT please??? More, please!!! 

What action sequences we do get are great, but god they would have been so much more satisfying and powerful if we just got to see the kaiju duking it out while the humans scrambled in the background, and not the other way around. 

Walking out of the theater this time, I felt like I stated before- I didn’t get enough kaiju, or at least the kaiju I did get kept getting cut off by human nonsense. I still enjoyed it, absolutely, because for me, the pros of the film outweigh the cons. I got to see my favorite kaiju duke it out amidst tolerable human actors with CGI that Toho couldn’t have even dreamed of seeing back in the day. I got my Godzilla movie, and while it wasn’t perfect, I liked what I liked more than I hated what I didn’t. 

To put this in comparison, I think this film falls into a healthy theater experience, but not an outstanding one. For example, I am a Jurassic Park nut, and when Jurassic World came out, I saw that movie more times than I can even count. Every opportunity I could have to go see it, I saw it. I think I saw that movie in the theater something like eight times? Not even a joke, I saw it that much. I loved it so much. That was probably my favorite theater experience ever. King of the Monsters makes me want to go see it again and again, (even now, after seeing it twice!) but maybe I’ll refrain from seeing it quite that much lol. 

But it doesn’t deserve to be thrashed with criticism the way it is. Another example, my most negative theater experience, is when I went to go see The Last Jedi. Oh my god. Now THAT movie made me wish the new trilogy had never happened, and I love Star Wars. Even in my first viewing of The Last Jedi, I walked out of that theater with two of my friends (both of them hardcore Star Wars fans) and we all said out loud, “What the fuck was that garbage?” 

Oh my god we hated that film, but we went to go see it twice regardless because that’s what we do to really determine how much we like or hate a film. The first time is for initial reactions as fans, the second time we go see a film to be more perceptive about it. And The Last Jedi sucked even more the second time, which is why I will never touch that movie ever again. I could go in-depth about it, but that’s not what this review is about. This was simply an example to compare King of the Monsters to. 

If I had had the kind of reaction to the film that I did with The Last Jedi, I would absolutely understand the box office numbers it is currently being pounded with, but I didn’t have that reaction. I loved the movie both times I went to go see it and for the life of my I can’t fathom why it’s receiving so much heat. This film is pieced together BETTER than that horrifying Star Wars movie, for god’s sake, but it’s doing so much worse. Let that sink in for a second. A Godzilla movie’s plot is pieced better than a Star Wars movie. Will wonders never cease?

All in all, I think King of the Monsters is a sold 7.5/10. It’s not perfect and it has its problems, but I think it’s a solid entry into the kaiju franchise, and at this point I’m just praying that the negativity it’s receiving doesn’t hurt the Legendary Monsterverse later on down the line. I want to see more Godzilla movies after Kong vs Godzilla, thank you very much! 

Whew, that was a lot to write. Anyways, my final advice to anyone thinking about going to see it is to just go take a crack at it in the theaters. I can understand why people didn’t like some parts of the film, but I found the positives outweighed the negatives. Long live the King!

Avengers Endgame SPOILER FILLED Thoughtstream

Pretty much a blow by blow reaction stream straight from my mind in list form of the entire movie from beginning to end. Clearly full of spoilers so it’s below the cut and tagged to death. There’s some all caps screaming. A few keyboard smashes. A fair amount of cussing. Probably a fair amount of typos as I typed this while totally not rewatching it in the comfort of my home.

Ha Tony calling Rocket Build a Bear is my first genuine laugh this movie.

I honestly was dying on the inside the whole time Tony is losing his shit on Cap. I mean he needed to say it all but seeing how sick he is and falling apart. He rips off his reactor and hands it over then collapses.

This whole thing with the kids is awkward. 

Come to think of it I have questions about how the infrastructure that is supporting things like cell phone networks is still functioning after the vanishing. Maybe because it’s been five years.

This is just so damn good so far. No complaints yet.

I kind of love this Hulk. He has no idea what he’s doing here but I love him. He’s like only half taking this seriously.

Thor kept strong for so long. He lost so much. He got all the way to the point where he’d done all he could think. He killed Thanos and there was no way to undo all that could be done so he just settled and existed. He drank and played video games with his buddies.

I get it.

Rocket just lured him onto the ship with beer. 

Was good to see Korg and Miek are alive. And there for them in their own ways.

In a matter of seconds Tony calls Thor “Lebowski” and Rocket “Ratchet” and I have always lived for his dumbass nicknames. 

Lebowski Thor is officially what I’m referring to this iteration of Thor.

Oh look a classic time travel trope a limit in the number of trips they can make. Makes sense though, Hank Pym was always very protective of how to make the particles so they only have what was made before the Vanishing.

I love the team debating how time travel really works. Listing all the time travel movies. Bill and Ted even snuck into the list. 

Not sure sending Clint back for the test was the best choice this is gonna be rough.

Okay he started to lose it at the end but he made it.

Tony’s gentle handling of Thor says a lot. Tony’s been to rock bottom and recognizes the symptoms. At the same time I laughed when he offered breakfast and Thor said no he wanted a Bloody Mary.

I’ll be mourning Tony for a long while. I was always team Tony.

They did him right tough. His arc was satisfying and RDJ performed beautifully in this one.

My heart aches. They had to give him a daughter. I’m watching my daughter sleep totally not thinking what it would be like for her to lose her father.

Over all I am happy with Endgame. I mean with time travel they obviously left loose ends all over.

They say they can’t change time and the whole present becoming your past when you go back while the past is your future blah blah blah

But like clearly things are changed. 2012 Loki got the tesseract and escaped

2014 Thanos is no longer in 2014. So the Guardians movies happened but also couldn’t have happened? I dunno it’s confusing.

So basically the MCU has finally caught up with it’s comic book roots of being a confusing jumble timelines. How poetic.

Notes for The Vanishing Prince, Chapter 1

I can’t believe I just typed that title… I’M FINALLY POSTING THIS FIC. Anyway.

This story is going to be a little different from the first two in A Spark of Light. Because of that, I have some really important stuff I need to say first! I’ll start with those things, then go into my usual notes about culture and timelines and KnB canon, etc. So, THE REALLY IMPORTANT STUFF…

(Cut for a whole bunch of warnings and info about dissociation disorders, family dysfunction, Japanese culture, spooky stuff, and lots of other bits and pieces)

1. This is a story about a very misunderstood mental illness. It’s not going to be perfect, but I’ll do my best.

I’ve alluded to mental health issues in the first two stories, specifically that Furihata has anxiety, and Akashi has an undiagnosed dissociative disorder.

This story focuses a lot more on the latter, which is a deeply misunderstood and stigmatized mental health issue. I’ve tried to do as much research as I can on these disorders, and on how the human brain processes trauma—which is connected to dissociation, a survival mechanism. However, I do not have a dissociative disorder myself, so I want to emphasize that I’m not an expert, and this is not based on my personal experience. I did consult first person accounts, and used them as inspiration. But in the end, this is a fictional story based on the canon of Kuroko no Basuke, which is imperfect and can be misleading/confusing, when it comes this part of Akashi’s character. (I’ll try to explain why as I post more of the fic.)

Also, not all people who have more than one self state consider themselves to have a disorder… I’ve sometimes seen the term “multiple” used for this. In addition, some people want to keep their different self states separate, and live as they are. I chose to depict Akashi as having a disorder because of his arc in KnB canon—specifically, how Last Game ends. So like in canon, this series is about Akashi coming to terms with having a disorder and making the eventual decision to integrate his selves. (Some fans were disappointed with that aspect of Extra Game/Last Game in part because psychiatry sometimes pushes integration as the only valid treatment goal for dissociation, which it isn’t. But since I felt Akashi made that choice for himself in KnB, I went with his decision in my fics as well. For a thorough article about some of the issues surrounding the integration process, I highly recommend this site.)

So I’m going to do the best I can, to make Akashi’s portrayal nuanced and positive, and use current knowledge about dissociation. But I know it won’t be perfect, and I’m going to make mistakes. (Especially since the experiences of these disorders can vary a lot, so what is true for some people may be very different for others… Since I based it on canon, Akashi’s experience definitely diverges from what tends to be described as “typical.”) So I want to apologize for any issues in advance, and I’ll do my best to address and/or correct them. The fic also deconstructs some stereotypes and misconceptions. (Especially as they relate to Bokushi.) One of the reasons I wanted to write this story was because I wanted to explore Akashi’s experience in more depth, and try to fill in some things we don’t know about him. On that note…

2. This story will include depictions of family dysfunction, emotional neglect, and some (mostly implied) abuse.

I’ve talked before about my portrayal of Akashi’s family in this series. But I think it’s worth mentioning again that I’m writing about Akashi’s parents—and his extended family and caretakers—as flawed people, who made some very misguided decisions about how to raise a child. For the sake of spoilers, I won’t go into more details yet. But I wanted to make sure to give a heads-up that this story will go to a darker place than the previous two. (Which I tried to imply near the end of Storming the Castle.)

For anyone who’s concerned that it might be too intense, I’m aiming to keep everything in this story to a solid PG-13 rating, at most. I’ll also provide content warnings for any intense scenes, so you can skip or skim them if you prefer.

That said, I intentionally avoided going with the darkest possible interpretations of Akashi’s family life. I don’t want this story to be overly disturbing, or make any of the characters out to be truly evil. But I did want to show that sometimes, caretakers make decisions they intend to be loving, but that cause real mental and emotional harm in the long term.

3. This story has paranormal elements. A LOT of paranormal elements.

On the note of getting darker, I should probably mention that this story will also have more spooky/paranormal stuff. While Storming the Castle took most of its inspiration from fairy tales, The Vanishing Prince includes some inspiration from ghost and horror stories, particularly Japanese ones. That being said, I didn’t want readers to have to stop the series early because it got too scary! So just like in StC, I’m aiming to keep the spooky parts to a PG rating, and to have a more “fantasy” tone overall, kind of along the lines of a Miyazaki movie. (As in no super gory descriptions, any past violence related to the paranormal will be implied instead of shown, nothing too creepy or viscerally gross, etc.)

Still, expect plenty of allusions and/or depictions of Japanese spiritualism, ghosts, youkai, Shinto beliefs, Buddhist beliefs, Japanese funeral rituals, graves, temples etc. There are also a few concepts borrowed from Western mysticism… That’s mostly Reo’s fault. Because, uh, tarot cards? Which is canon and I did not make that up.

As always, please note that I’m not an expert on Japanese culture! I try to make sure that what I include in my fics is as accurate as possible, but I’m not Japanese, so it’s better to assume that it includes at least some Western misconceptions and/or errors. (Plus there are probably about a million Westerners who know more about Japanese ghost stories than I do.)

4. This story includes some sexual tension, but it’s mild/implied.

One other thing I should mention… The characters’ sexuality is addressed more directly in this fic, so there are allusions to sexual tension. That said, because the characters are still teenagers, I’m going to keep it at a PG-13 level at most. (Basically, arousal is implied, no explicit mentions of body parts, etc.) You can see examples of this in Furihata’s scenes in Chapter One. I went with this approach for multiple reasons. But a big one is that I want people who were most comfortable with the ratings of previous fics in the series to be able to keep reading if they want to!

Okay, that’s it for the serious “here’s what you’re getting into” kind of stuff. Now for less important things…

Timeline of the Fic

This series takes place in the spring and summer after the Winter Cup in Kuroko no Basuke canon. The first three stories also takes place before Last Game, which happens in August. The Vanishing Prince starts right after Storming the Castle. Which means it’s set mostly near the end of July, partly during summer vacation in the Japanese school calendar. I wanted to mention this because this is a story about Oreshi and Bokushi, so establishing where it fits in the canon seems like important background info! And speaking of Bokushi…

Oreshi’s Point of View vs. Bokushi’s Point of View

So if you’ve already read the chapter, you know that this fic series finally has a third point of view! (YAY. I’M SO EXCITED.) Originally, I wasn’t sure if I was going to include Bokushi’s PoV… But once I started writing it, I was having way too much fun, so yes, it’s happening. XD

The one tricky thing is that both Oreshi and Bokushi like to use the same full name. (Which is not always the case with dissociation, by the way… It’s an interesting part of both of their characters, I think!) So I decided that for the scenes that are written in Oreshi’s point of view, Oreshi will continue to be called Akashi. And when a scene is in Bokushi’s point of view, Bokushi is referred to as Seijuurou. (I based this off of an aspect of his character that he’ll bring up later.)

So hopefully that wasn’t too confusing to read! Also, Oreshi and Bokushi will both refer to their other self as “my other self,” or sometimes “my brother.” (Which is a headcanon based off of that one line in KnB where Oreshi compares Bokushi to “a troublesome little brother.”)

Therapy and Dissociation Terms

This note is pretty serious again… This story will contain depictions of psychiatry and therapy. I’m not an expert on either of these things, and the culture around therapy in Japan is different than it is in Western countries. (I talked about that in some of my notes for Storming the Castle earlier.)

So while I’ll do my best to strike a balance between realism and fiction, this story is going to take some fictional license with the therapy process. The main reason is that I wanted Akashi’s situation in the story to seem unusual in certain ways, because the power he wields in terms of his family background is so unusual. Hopefully I conveyed that the psychiatrist in the story is choosing to go out of her way in Akashi’s case, and possibly making some exceptions that she wouldn’t make otherwise.

(That being said, from everything I could gather, parental permission is not strictly required by law for teenagers to receive therapy in Japan… Unlike where I live in America, where it is in a lot of states, though the specifics vary a lot.)

And on that note, I should mention one of the terms I used… When it comes to dissociation disorders, having more than one self state is often referred to as having “alters.” Not everyone uses this term. (I’ve seen some people say they dislike using it because it sounds clinical, for example.) On the recommended site I use for general information about dissociation disorders, they do use “alter.” So that’s why I used it too. (Also, the fic takes place in 2010, and I believe alter was standard back then as well.) But please keep in mind that some people might not use that particular term!

Oreshi and Bokushi’s Headspace, and Co-Consciousness

I also wanted to briefly bring up the “room” inside Akashi’s mind, where Oreshi and Bokushi talk… I based its appearance off of that scene near the end of the anime, where Oreshi confronts Bokushi inside their mind:

My headcanon is that Oreshi and Bokushi use this as a space where they can both communicate with each other. This is based on something common among people who have dissociation, sometimes called headspace, which you can learn about here. In my fic, Bokushi and/or Oreshi’s presence in this room represents that they’re conscious at the moment. Meaning that they’re aware of what’s going on in the world around them, even though the other self may be in control of their body. When two alters are conscious at the same time, it’s called being “co-conscious.” In KnB canon, it’s implied that Oreshi and Bokushi are co-conscious at least some (and possibly most, or all!) of the time. I’ll talk more about that later, and why I went with the interpretation of canon that I did.

Also, I wanted to quickly mention these lines in the chapter:

“[Akashi] didn’t recall losing track of events against his will. But there used to be many instances where he would let himself drift away, on one level or another. He would lose a few minutes of time, while his brother would talk in his place.”

This is based on one of the Teikou scenes when Midorima noticed that Akashi seemed to have “another Akashi inside him” that said things that were different from his usual personality. This happened before the scene where Bokushi took complete control. So I headcanon that before Oreshi ever let Bokushi fully switch places with him, he sometimes let Bokushi speak in his place, temporarily. I also headcanon that he started doing this while interacting with his dad. (There’s a part in the manga that implies that Oreshi had feelings of being “separate” before Teikou, too.) So that’s where that theory came from!

Fast Train References

Also, just a quick reminder that Akashi’s promise to show Furihata around Gion at night is from The Fast Train to Kyoto! (And I’m very excited that Kyoto is going to be a setting again. <3) Also in that fic, I introduced the Akashi family estate in Kyoto for the first time. In my headcanons, this is the area where his family originally lived centuries ago, and they acquired the mansion in Tokyo later. Furihata hasn’t visited the Kyoto estate yet, but he will. ;)

My Issue With Disney Channel’s “Animation Cram Session”, Even the Promo

Disney Channel’s schedule is very inconsistent with little to no variety except for their live action sitcoms spamming the schedule. This post will be explaining how the channel treats their animated content, even summarized by just one promo.

Just look at one of the schedules courtesy of @disneyschedules​

I think this schedule is boring as what Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon are doing with their TV schedules.

Cartoon Network = Spamming Teen Titans Go! and Gumball while shows like Steven Universe, We Bare Bears, and OK KO! don’t get a lot of air time.

Nickelodeon = Spamming SpongeBob and Loud House, even Paw Patrol on it’s preschool block while it’s other shows get aired less and bumped to bad time slots (even some are on NickToons).

Disney Channel = Spamming Raven’s Home and Coop and Cami, also Sydney to the Max (even Bunk’d and Stuck in the Middle before they were removed). The issue is that they are focusing heavily on their sitcoms in terms of scheduling and advertising. 

DuckTales and Big City Greens are being promoted regularly but they air at time slots where much of the channel’s demographic is at school. Right now, Big City Greens is seen at 2:30, 3, and 4:30, so it seems to be the only cartoon they care about (a lot like how they treat Phineas and Ferb).

All this but shows like Milo Murphy’s Law, Star vs. the Forces of Evil, Tangled: The Series, and Big Hero 6: The Series, are promoted less, even using a same generic promo without any special new ones to hype up audiences, and placed at an inconvenient time slots between 7-9 AM. Even worse is that viewers have to wake up very early even in the Central and Mountain Time Zones. 

For example, trying to get up at 5 AM in Colorado to watch Milo Murphy’s Law and Tangled might be difficult unless you set an alarm or go to sleep early. For Arizona, the issue is worse since there is no daylight savings time so, waking up at 4 AM just to watch it is a challenge.

With the four shows I mention, they only air a new episode once and they never rerun while they spam their schedule with the same sitcom repeats.

I have heard the senior vice president in charge of programming at Disney Channel, Paul DeBenedittis, was recently hired by Nickelodeon. Paul seems to be in charge of what we see on the channel. If he is gone, it’s unclear how things will change because Disney ABC Television has a team of executives still in control of the schedule, and we wonder who the new one is. But if Paul left before the spamming of Raven and Coop and Cami reruns, we have no idea if the new Senior VP is behind this.

TLDR: Disney Channel doesn’t schedule their animated content well and overshadows it while they only put so much focus on their Disney Channel sitcoms and stars (I mean Ruby Rose Turner, immediately had a song just after Coop and Cami aired).

Now, on to my next topic. I have some problems with this “Cram Session” promo.

Disney Channel has released a promo in September 2018 promoting audiences about it’s “Animation Cram Session” line up (which even includes Phineas and Ferb, before it was removed in January 2019 because they air it at 6 AM, not at 7.)

The promo still uses the same graphics that Disney Channel uses for it’s bumpers and commercials from 2017 up until February 2019.

This was before the channel got a massive overhaul probably to reflect their new sitcom, Sydney to the Max. Appealing to the channel’s demographic of teenagers (mostly girls). Which if you were Walt Disney, this seems out of place from a company that had major successes in its movie divisions, theme parks, and merchandising.

The “Cram Session” promo was voiced over by none other than a man named Jim Pratt.

He has been doing Disney Channel promos/advertising since the 2010s alongside doing voice over for dozens a promos for other networks like TLC and Fox. In 2016, he has replaced the main Disney Channel voice over, Cam “Buzz” Brainard, and he ended up doing nearly every promo for the channel.

The way I describe his voice is “high energy” and “in your face” as a way to hype up people about a certain show or lineup.

Sure when I was very young, I have grown up with the voice overs of Mark Elliot, Brain Cummings, and even Beau Weaver but if I imagined them voicing over for the Disney Channel, they would’ve brought a new meaning of excitement while still keeping that trademark Disney magic.

First off, this wouldn’t make sense if you were the channel’s main demographic of 6-14 (or even teenagers if you like some of these shows), because usually cartoons were a bit of a after-school (3-5 PM)/early morning before school (5-7 AM) thing because it was a way of entertaining children, sometimes even teens where their high schools start as early as 7 AM. VO #2: You can still learn a thing or two with the Animation... Cram Session!

I sorta think think this is tedious and gives a mixed message. Usually real life cramming is a negative effect.

“Cramming deposits information in your short term memory. Material reviewed in cramming sessions is not learned. Some students think they have learned the material and will be able to recall it for the midterm or final. Wrong! It’s gone! The information is generally unavailable to recall after one or two days. So, when students rely on cramming they cheat themselves out of a true education.

Cramming is also more work. It takes longer to learn material when it is done under pressure. Cramming does not save time. Cramming also has its limits. If you haven’t cracked a book in any of your courses, have daydreamed through the classes, or haven’t attended, cramming will not help. Cramming for several courses also doesn’t work.”

To apply this with how Disney Channel schedules their cartoons, they of course only air their animated shows once within the early morning hours of 6-9 AM on Saturday and Sunday. With the fact they only air one new episode of a show once (Milo Murphy’s Law, Tangled, Big Hero 6, Star vs, the Forces of Evil), this makes it even worse for people who don’t have access to DVR, Direct TV/Dish/Premium Cable (Spectrum) with Disney XD, On Demand, and even DisneyNOW, but only get Disney Channel through basic cable. 

Once they see the episode once, they might try and remember it, but with different mindsets, it’s highly possible they will forget it and move on with their repetitive sitcom reruns or the next cartoon to cram in. They wouldn’t be able to recall anything from the show, unless it’s amazingly entertaining and appealing thanks to either bright and fast-paced animation, emotional moments, or even the funniest moments.

Also, it seems odd they attached two random clips from two shows and edited them together.

Webby (in The Other Bin of Scrooge McDuck): Diamond dagger cuts through anything.

Cricket (in Blue Tater): Wait. Come again?

Well, it does segue into the next voice over but it gets kinda boring once you’ve seen it again and again.

VO #3: Every Saturday and Sunday morning, Cram in... all the adventure!

VO #4: Cram in... all the action!

These two does seems like a generic way to promote a lineup but it is all “in your face”

Now it features clips from the DuckTales episode, Last Crash of Sunchaser.

Dewey: Nothing can’t stop us.

The scene then cuts to a clip from Big City Greens’ “Blue Tater as the show’s main characters fly out of a shopping cart.

Note: These clips being edited together like that and seeing it over and over again when it comes on during commercials is just flat in some way.

VO #5: And cram in all the laughs in the Animation Cram Session!

VO #6: Weekend mornings starting at 7 on Disney Channel

Again, the issue with airing these shows once at 7-9 AM seems to be inaccessible for people who want to sleep in. Or don’t know it’s on because they live in the Central and Mountain Zone and it airs 1 and 2 hours early respectively.

All set to generic high-energy music (pop/rock/electronic), this “Cram Session” promo just doesn’t make sense and with some of the shows just getting generic promos alongside it, and seeing it a bunch of times with the same clips reused, especially focusing more on DuckTales and Big City Greens, not giving as much spotlight on the other cartoons, makes this a questionable promo.

It all comes together the main issue with how Disney Channel is treating their cartoons. 

Bad time slots, little to no promotion, not even individual promotion with the exception of DuckTales and Big City Greens (which the channel favors more than their other cartoons). 

Plus this promo is basically saying to the channel’s demographic of 6-14 year olds that you should “Cram In All”. 

Sure this seems to be a Saturday Morning cartoon lineup thing but the fact that this is Disney Channel, they choose to put all their animated shows at an inconvenient air time while they spam their sitcoms. It’s more of a lose-lose situation. Milo Murphy’s Law, for example, suffers in low ratings.

Sadly but true, cable is decreasing (even prices are increasing) as Disney is launching its new streaming service, Disney+ very soon. Even DisneyNOW seems to be the current way of watching/streaming shows (with TV provider or Apple TV).

Still, I just don’t see why Disney Channel would spam their sitcoms (alongside Big City Greens which is a good exception), while their animated shows don’t meet up to the potential if the channel airs them at prime time.

To conclude, Disney Channel’s schedule isn’t full of variety, the “Cram Session” promo has some issues, and the future of our favorite shows and how we watch Disney’s TV animated cartoons is uncertain. Also, Disney Channel after Paul DeBenedittis’ departure leaves us in a mystery who is his replacement and how the schedule will change in the future.  Plus, I provided you some brief Disney Channel history.

P.S. I hope Amphibia, 101 Dalmatian Street and The Owl House have potential for great ratings if Disney Channel cares for their cartoons more.
