Reminder that You Can Get Away With More Than You Think in regards to alterhumanity near humans.

It’s currently a joke/meme to meow or bark, meowing more at random when there’s a silence generally (from what i’ve witnessed) and barking such as “barking at men” and such, you can play off the conversation!

If you have close friends who you cuddle with, push your head into them, roll over and show them your stomach (if you are particularly close, very big sign of trust!), stretch, and feel relaxed in your nonhumanity in that moment. Playfight/wrestle, playfully snap at their hands (carefully and softly) if they get close to your face, bump shoulders, race them places, etc. (of course, never push boundaries, if someone tells you to stop, then stop.) Humans may not be just like us, but they will pick up on the closeness and physical touch is good for everycreature!

Bare your teeth when you dislike something, eat meat, make nest or den-like structures to have movie nights in, if you get wet, do a shake! Have a rumble in your happy hums.

Especially if you’re known to be a very woodsy person, you can play off your alterhuman vocals as party tricks! Though I am not a corvid, my raven and crow calls are both hits, people love to hear me use them out in the wild

“If you hear hoofsteps, think horses not zebras.” People are much more likely to write off your behavior than go “omg alterhuman” and even if they have the bravery to ask, they are likely accepting and know a good bit about the topic to know to ask! i think a very important thing to remember about the alterhuman community is that there’s really no such thing as a “fake” therian/otherkin/etc. identities can fluctuate, you can be misinformed, you can even have the right information and still not realize you’re wrong about something until way later on. we make mistakes, it’s part of life, and that’s totally okay.

what’s NOT okay is when you harass or put down others for supposedly “faking” their identity. if someone realizes they were wrong about their identity, be gentle with them, and let them know that it’s totally fine if they were wrong. there’s enough beings jumping to conclusions out there and harming others because of it, we don’t need any more.

while i’m on the topic, having a lot of kintypes or not knowing what they are at all is also not a sign of “fake” alterhumanity. again, the experience is different for everyone, and feeling as though you’re a million creatures (or being unsure) isn’t a crime.

everyone experiences nonhumanity differently, and it’s easy to be mistaken when trying to decipher what exactly is going on in your head or spirit. having others snap at you for being wrong never helps. remember to be kind and considerate.

this community is already dragged and called fake by the people outside of it. infighting and trying to pick out the beings you think are causing the problems won’t make them respect us more.

tldr: there’s no such thing as a fake alterhuman, everyone can make mistakes or be misinformed. you shouldn’t chastise them for that. picking out the beings you think are causing problems will not make any humans respect us more.

I am questioning it. I might be a cat or fictionkin, but I feel like my feelings aren't really... enough? Hello! I'm a trans man who (as far as I'm aware) is not an alterhuman/therian/other, so I was wondering, is species dysphoria anything like gender dysphoria from your experience?

hi!! thanks for the ask! sorry it took me so long to answer, anon, i hope you’re still hanging around. it took me a while to figure out how to phrase this.

ok, so! for me, both species and gender dysphoria can be separated into two different categories: body and social. species also has a third category: mental dysphoria (not an actual term in the community, as far as i know, but it describes my experiences).

gender dysphoria 

body dysphoria

this dysphoria is concentrated on mainly three things; my chest, my voice, and rarely but occasionally my jawline. the first is the worst, but as long as i’m wearing the right clothes my chest usually doesn’t bother me enough to keep me from functioning. i plan to have surgery to change it. the second thing only bothers me when i’m Aware of my voice, which most of the time i’m not. i plan on taking voice training for that. the third bothers me so little that i don’t care to change it.

social dysphoria

this dysphoria is bad. i hate being called my assigned gender, and i hate people using my deadname and assigned pronouns. i didn’t used to think it was as intense as it is, but last year i had the opportunity to be fully out for a couple weeks in a place away from home, and coming back to being misgendered felt like a punch in my gut every time. 

species dysphoria

body dysphoria

this fluctuates wildly, both in intensity and the things it’s directed at. i usually have a few weeks where i feel phantom limbs and species dysphoria all the time, and then a few weeks where it’s hardly there. when it’s bad, it’s really bad. instead of a few specific traits that distress me, my whole body feels wrong, down to the bone structure. and there’s no way for me to realistically change it. it’s difficult to make your entire legs not be shaped like a human’s, y’know? minor species dysphoria is somewhat better; having claws can be achieved by buying wearable ones, fangs can be had by attaching costume accessories, incorrectly shaped pupils can be fixed by wearing fancy contacts. unfortunately i don’t currently have any of those items, but i could definitely get them in the future.

social dysphoria 

i don’t have this with species as badly as i do with gender. ideally, i would be treated as i normally am but while in a nonhuman body. except when my fae or cryptid ‘types are strong. when that happens, i usually want to have the social aspects associated with them — making bargains with humans, people being unnerved by me, things like that. i don’t think i get as much social dysphoria from my other kintypes.

mental dysphoria 

this one has no gender-y equivalent. it’s dysphoria over your thought patterns and knowledge level not being the same as that of your species’. i don’t think the same way i would if i was bodily a fae, or fox, or pocket dragon, or etc, and that can be distressing. during mental shifts (when thought patterns do seem to match more closely to that of your species), it’s still not exactly correct, and that’s quite frustrating. mental dysphoria is worst for me with my pocket dragon ‘type, since that mind is the most different from my usual mind. 

sometimes my gender intertwines with my species (becoming cryptidgender while also being a cryptid for example). the dysphoria doesn’t really change, just the identity thing i attribute it to.

i’d also like to mention my cecil palmer hearttype (a hearttype, in case you aren’t aware, means i identify *with* him rather than *as* him. he’s important to me and affects me in a way different from other fictional characters. i wish i was him, but i’m not). cecil gives me a LOT of gender envy, which is ironic considering he has no canon design. i have a sort of mental dysphoria towards him, in that i very much wish i knew what it was like to think the way he thinks, but it’s not distressing the way it can be for my kintypes.

so to conclude my answer: yes, my species dysphoria is similar to my gender dysphoria, but different enough to be distinct. i’d consider my species dysphoria worse on the whole, though.

Hi folks! Since everyone seems so intent on misconstruing this server’s purpose, I wanted to put it in very clear terms.

- We ARE a space that focuses on spiritual alterhumanity and ‘kin identities.

- We DO NOT have a ban against other alterhuman origins.

- We DO have a requirement that you have at least one identity with a spiritual origin (at least in part) to join, OR that you are interested in exploring spirituality and its connection to alterhuman identities.

It is quite upsetting to see people once again circulating that we are running this server to be exclusionary. This server is for spiritual alterhumans in a similar way to other servers being for therians only, or for fictionkin only, or for people who experience delusions only.

The reason we changed our server to a spiritual focus was that we felt there wasn’t a good public place on discord for spiritual alterhumans, especially spiritual fictionkin. Many of the staff and members have experienced exclusionary behaviors in broader servers due to our beliefs about our own identities and wanted a niche community to freely discuss these things. We want to share that yes, spiritual alterhumans can have memories. Yes, a past life can still be an active identity in our current lives. Yes, spiritual work can be just as valid as neurodivergence etc when it comes to a basis for identity.

We have never expressed any negative sentiment toward other alterhuman/nonhuman origins, nor will we be doing so in the future! The only things that HAVE happened are members joking about their own psychological alterhumanity, and us using the original definitions of words (ie IRL, source, canon, ID, and double all being words that originated in the fictionkin community).

Since you’re alterhuman, I was wondering if you had any insight on what exactly ‘psychological’ otherkin means?? I understand the spiritual aspects of being otherkin, but I haven’t found any solid explanations on psychological reasons and I have no clue what that entails. (Genuine)

funnily enough, i actually am psychological otherkin (well, i'd use psychological alterhuman for msyelf, but yknow)! it basically just means that one attributes their alterhuman identity to some psychological phenomenon, which varies from user to user. this can be:

a specific diagnosable condition known to cause an alterhuman experience, such as clinical lycanthropy or other delusions, being a nonhuman alter in a system, etc.

forming an alterhuman identity in response to trauma (for example, a strong desire to escape my childhood trauma made me easily form alterhuman connections to creatures/characters that can fly)

forming an alterhuman identity in response to dehumanization. this is fairly common among neurodivergent and queer alterhumans (and i'd assume other marginalized groups as well, i'm just speaking from my own experiences here!)

it's also pretty common for psychological otherkin to not know the exact explanation for their identity! many just don't hold any spiritual beliefs that would explain their alterhumanity and therefore attribute it to psychology, since the brain being weird just makes the most sense if you aren't spiritual.

so, endels and non endelic alterhumans are very similiar. Many endels feel their nonhuman identity to be trauma related, many don't, and same with alterhumans. An Endel is just someones who nonhumanity is related to OR caused by delusions.

I have a delusion of being physically nonhuman, but some endels don't and just have the delusion of being mentally nonhuman. Some have spiritual delusions, etc etc. There really isn't a yes or no answer to which delusions can be endelic. Someone might have the delusion of physically being a wolf, but not identify as an endel. Like many others, Endel is simply a label someone may or may not identify with.

A subculture/term for those in the Otherkin community that are radically inclusive to others using the kin label, and blurring boundaries between otherkin and other kinds of alterhumanity.

Kindpunks are against gatekeeping in the kin community, whether or not one’s personally a spiritual otherkin, casual otherkin, KFF (Kin-For-Fun), kinnie, fableing, kin-related introject, extranths who identify with the label, etc. with focus primarily on otherkin experiences. Supportive of blurring between “identifying with” and “identifying as”. Kindpunks also respect the fact some spaces may be only for talking about non-chosen otherkin experiences, while others are for talking about chosen otherkin experiences. Kindpunks respect the origins of otherkin while also recognizing language changes and evolves over time, and that there has always been blurring between unchosen/chosen and identifying with/as in the alterhuman community.

Kindpunks also recognize every individual has a different experience with kinhood, and respects that. (Ex: Having many kintypes, being able to drop kins/kintypes, being unable able to drop kins/kintypes, rapid or slow (kin)shifting, unchosen otherkin sometimes having problematic characters/kintypes, current-life beliefs (such as being only partly human), a kin having a problematic source and recognizing that, complex relations with identity, having a kinlist, listening to kin playlists, having fun and/or being serious with your identity, etc)

Who's included?

Spiritual, Religious, Clinical Lycantrophy, Psychological, Blurkind, KFF, etc. All good faith self-identified otherkin/kin/kinnies are within this community. This includes ALL kinds of otherkin labels.

Other non-otherkin alterhumans/ahumans who feel connected to the otherkin community, without necessarily identifying as otherkin themself. EX: Constelic, Endels, Otherlink, Copinglink, etc. (This also includes half-kin/demi-humans, and furries who relate to experiences in the community.)

Who’s NOT included?

Alterhumans who do not identify themselves as otherkin, or adjacent to the otherkin community itself. (Do not assume someone’s otherkin/blurkind, nor assume their personal identity.)

KFF Factkin. Especially if said “kin” is currently living. You can deeply relate to someone, however you cannot BE them unless you were reborn from a past life/alternative universe. (If you are Factkin, it’s also generally good faith to specify you’re not trying to claim you’re this universe’s (currently) living counterpart. Especially if you’re neurotypical.)

KFF against serious Otherkin. Kindpunk is about solidarity. If you’re ableist/saneist/anti-alterhuman by calling serious kin (Psychological/Spiritual/etc.) delusional, you’re not kindpunk nor are you welcome in the kin community.

Otherkin who are against the use of other community terms. Kindpunk is about blurring boundaries in the community, however also respective the terms other choose to describe themselves.

You use being otherkin (and other-wise nonhuman) as an excuse to perpetrate/support pro-contact zoophilia, abuse, “consang”, racism, queermisia, etc.

Practically anyone who uses otherkin, kin, kinnie, etc. in bad faith.

Why? My personal experience.

TDLR; Gatekeeping in the kin community directly mirroring gatekeeping/exclusionist rhetoric in other communities I’m in. The reason I coined this term is primarily because I’m against exclusion in any community (Of course respecting closed identities is also a focus point, such as indigenous and racial identities, religion-based identities, neurodiverse identities, culture/practice locked identities, etc), and my personal experience as someone who’s blurkind, I fit multiple types of alterhumanity AND otherkin (Mostly Spiritual Otherkin and KFF.)

As someone who’s queer with “contradictory” labels (and plural), every “reason” I’ve seen for excluding KFF from exploring and having fun with identity, has directly mirrored exclusionist behavior I’ve seen in the queer community. (Ex: “Using the wrong term” = invalid experience (Mirrors mspec gay discourse), Only one definition of a term is valid (Mirrors lesbian discourse), being x isn’t fun/you can’t have fun with identity (Mirrors Xenogender discourse), etc.)

My experience as blurkind, my first experience with the otherkin community was somewhat bitter, gatekeeping left and right on whether or not someone’s experience is “valid” enough to call yourself otherkin left a bitter taste in my mouth because my experience, even as my experience as kin has the origin on reincarnation, it ALSO always has had a casual due to another origin of my kin identity being for fun, whether or not I gained memories or not. For me, a lot of the “reasoning” behind exclusion in the community is the exact same as I experienced while growing up while first learning about transmed/truscum/tucute/“trender” discourse. It’s valid to take your identity in any way, whether it be serious and/or for fun.

Even though I’ve begun to use other alterhuman community terms for my experience, such as other-hearted and nonhuman in general, my first experience was with the kin label, and such holds much more prevalence in my mind versus others.

This term was originally coined as Kinpunk, however has been changed to Kindpunk after harassment from various sources. (Plus the fact there's apparently has already been two separate coinings of kinpunk.)
