Foreach 2024 Reader Survey Results
So, my buddy @lumsel makes a lil webcomic called Foreach. I help 'em out with it sometimes. The comic's website doesn't have a comment section, so I thought it'd be fun to do a little year-end survey to see who was reading and what they think!
We had an incredible response, with 279 respondents to the survey--more than are in the Foreach discord server! So let's get into it.
Character Popularity Poll
Alright, let's start with the thing I know y'all are most excited about. As the comic creators, we love all our characters equally... but clearly you guys don't!
âď¸ SUNNY SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!!! âď¸
Y'all REALLY like Sunny, eh? Don't worry, us too. In fact, 80.3% of you listed her in your top 3 favorite characters. Hell yeah.
The next top four characters are the four game protagonists, with Jiro ranking top, then Nix, Cliff and Coral. A lot of readers also mentioned Jiro as particularly relatable/lovable in the write in box at the end of the form. (Don't worry, I won't tell him y'all like him this much. Though with this many Love Warriors, Proteus won't stand a chance invading the island.) I was a bit surprised to see Jasper/Coral ranked as the lowest of the four protagonists! Given that the comic initially presents her as the "anchor" character and a jumping off point for the story as a whole--but that also means she's among the least unusual of the four protagonists, and thus stands out less? It's a hypothesis.
After that, we have Polyta (which makes a lot of sense, she's had some of the most page time of the side characters), then Mercy and Doctor Kree'zik. I wonder if some of this is recency bias, partiularly in Kree'zik's case, seeing as we haven't gotten much past xer character introduction yet. I'll be curious to see how these numbers shift if we run this again next year!
We also got some minor character write ins! Several people said they enjoyed various Aveans, with two votes specifically for the Avean Captains and someone else voting for the avean grunt from page 106 who says "Thanks a bundle!" And I agree: they're pretty adorable. Another person listed "the author" as their favorite character which... you know what, it is a fairly meta comic, so I'll allow it. (Even though, hilariously, Lum is the only member of the creative team to have not had a character cameo in the comic yet.)
Also shout out to the person who wrote in that they almost listed the character cameos for Peri and Kiki (the rat and the rabbit from pgs 24-25) as their favorites. I see you and appreciate you <3
Game Popularity Poll
Not a ton to say about this. People seem to like cozy-ish indie games and furry aesthetics. Makes sense to me.
Comic Info
How are people finding Foreach?
As always, word of mouth is CRUCIAL for indie webcomics getting off the ground. You guys sharing and linking it to friends and communities is really the engine behind getting eyes onto our art--so thank you!
We got another big boost from joining the @spiderforestcomics webcomic collective. So far, it's been a great experience and we've been loving the community over there. So if you're in the market for more comics, definitely go check out some of theirs!
I should note that there is definitely some overlap between these categories. We let people mark multiple answers, so many people marked "Word of Mouth (online)" in addition to other categories like Tumblr and other discord servers. In that broader category, there where several places that people specifically noted finding the comic including:
Our reader Digamma has been tirelessly reposting the comic to the Something Awful forums, and it looks like quite a few people have been keeping up from there! Thanks, Digamma, you're a certified super-spreader!
Dan of @thewebcomicsreview has linked to Foreach several times!
People also mentioned finding it through various discord communities, including the Star Impact server, a server for puzzle games, Foxglove Comics, and others
Rilly had a cameo in @erinptah's webcomic, Leif and Thorne!
Several people discovered it directly through the Neocities discover page!
Cohost, Cloudhiker, and a fairly lukewarm substack review... which nonetheless garnered us a few readers. I'll take it!
Currently, Foreach doesn't pay for traditional banner ads of any kind. So everytime you tell a friend about the comic or share a link to it, you're helping us out a ton! Thank you!
How are people keeping up with comic updates?
Not too much to say on this. Lots of manual checkers, and it looks like we're getting good mileage out of that RSS feed. Excellent!
Readership Info
Discord Membership
We had more survey responses than people currently in the Foreach discord. But even more excitingly, only about one third of survey respondents are also in the discord. Which is exciting, because it means there's more of a readership out there checking the comic updates than we knew previously!
Additionally, I'm personally excited by this result because hearing from those quieter members of our reader base is precisely why I wanted to put out this survey. We have a lovely, active community in the discord, but as a side effect that means we're hearing a lot of opinions from just one, disproportionately vocal part of our reader base. My hope with this survey was that we'd get a chance to hear some voices that we don't usually get to interact with... So for all you silent majority readers out there: Hello! Thanks so much for chiming in!
Patreon Membership
Most of our readers don't back the patreon. Which is to be expected! We actually got a few new patrons signing up after the survey was posted, which is absolutely lovely of y'all. (Hi new patrons! đ)
If you're wondering what the Patreon money gets used for, it's a mixture of funding extras the comic and supporting Lum's future creative endeavors. This year, we used a big chunk of the funding to commission the Love Bomb portraits for the new Cast Page, which were done by the talented Beajrb (go check out their work!) In the future, some of it may be used for commission work related to the comic, and also for the long term goal for Lum to take some time off their day job to draw comics/make games/etc.
We also asked what else people might like to see us do with the patreon. Right now, we post author commentary on pages with about a 2-chapter lag time, and people seem pretty happy with that over all. There were a few requests for bonus character art, pin ups, or character-asks, and we'll keep that in mind going forward. Since all of us are working full time, there's only limited time we have for making additional content, but who knows what the future holds!
Reader Geography
So where in the world are our readers? Well, I I thought it'd be fun to make this cute little map:
...which turned out to be a huge pain in the ass and a little misleading with the color ranges. So here it is another way:
Our reader base is very American-heavy. Honestly a little moreso than I was expecting? Maybe it's the magnetic charisma of Cliff Mason that keeps drawing them in?
But is it a good comic?
According to our readers, it's a 5.35/5 star comic. Make of that what you will :3
Final Thoughts
At the end of the form, we had an open response box for anything else y'all might want to say to us. And let me just say: y'all blew us away. Thank you so much.
So many of the comments were incredibly kind. People told us about characters they connected to, about how excited they were for to see what happens next. Some of them were sweet, some were horny, some of you compared Foreach to some of OUR favorite webcomics, (which was absolutely unreal to read!) Some of you guys wrote whole freakin' essays! I can't recap everything, but please know that we read every single one of them.
Thank you again for joining us on this journey. Here's to a great 2025--and another year of Freachin' it together!

DPXDC: I wanna be like most girls ghosts.
or Danny: What should I do to make my mom happy?
or ~Danny deserves a little teenage rebellion as a treat~
Maddie: I just want this damned Phantom to stop pretending to be a hero! All ghosts are pure evil, who is he trying to deceive? Danny: Oh, really? And Danny took it personally.
Itâs not Dannyâs fault that heâs a good kid and wants to make his parents happy. But why would he have to be a monster to make them happy? Why must they hate him to be happy?
Dannyâs obsession was going crazy.
Well, when your own parents call you a monster in the face, it hurts. Why do they always believe that only their opinion is the absolute truth? They have no idea how much worse things would be if at least some of the ghosts really behaved the way Maddie and Jack think theyâre supposed to. If he really is evil by nature, is there any point in fighting his own fate? They want to see him as a villain, he will become one. He will. He just needs a little help and practice. And not bring it to the level when Clockwork has to clean up his mess. Poor guy is without a vacation for how long? Couple of millennia?
Johnny 13: Sup. Danny: F*ck off, Johnny, Iâm not in the mood. Busy thinking about world domination. Get out of here or Iâll call Kitty. Johnny 13: Whatâs wrong? Youâre usually so grouchy only towards the end of the week. Danny: Nothing. Just parents. Again. They are wonderful but I canât help but feel sometimes that they, em⌠Johnny 13: Suck? Danny: RightâŚDamn. Iâm a terrible son. Maybe something is wrong with me. Johnny 13: What? No, no, dude. Youâre just growing up. And youâre a little late, usually teenagers go through that stage before they graduate. Well, youâve probably been busy with other issues, so just missed it. Danny: I wonder whose fault it is. Arenât there ghosts who enjoyed to ruin my life in the middle of school day?
Johnny 13: Oh, bother. Anyway, youâre entering a beautiful time of emancipation, where youâre going to shape your own view of life and, along the way, to get drunk on cheap alcohol at parties, maybe to go to jail and to become the greatest disappointment to your family..And then you will be ashamed to remember it for about the next ten years. Danny: Well, it looks like Iâve already done two out of three additional things. Great success. Johnny 13: When did you get drunk? Danny: I didnât. Johnny 13: Oh. Want to fix that? Danny: What? No. What an idiot wants to add a headache to his problems? Johnny 13: Well, your loss, then Iâll go terrorize the bars of Gotham alone and no one can stop me. Letâs see what your boyfriend will say about it. ~~~~~ Danny: Bartender, another shot of Dead Manâs Fingers, please. Red Hood: Babe, havenât you had enough? Danny: Have you ever felt that no matter how hard you try, no matter how many sacrifices you make, in their eyes youâll always be nothing more than a monster? Nothing more than a mistake? Oh, Death doesnât give people like me a break. Red Hood: âŚIâll have what heâs having. *gives the bartender a sign to switch the rum shots to a batburger milkshake for them, and starts talking to Danny so that he doesnât understand Hood's scams*
~~~~~
Johnny 13: Other peopleâs kids are growing up so fast. It seems like yesterday he didnât know how to shoot ectoblast, and now.. Kitty: Stop trying to make me feel bad, weâre leaving. Johnny 13: But the boy needs our support, honey boo!
~~~~~
Danny: I'm fine. Really, I am. This isnât the first time momâs called me a monster. She often called me that when she was upset with my behavior in my childhood. Huh, it's even funny. Jason: Thereâs nothing funny about that. Danny: No, you donât understand. Looking back, I was really a very active child and didnât know when to stop. Not surprisingly that I often annoyed my parents. Theyâre very busy people, and Jazz couldnât always keep an eye on me. And I was often afraid to go to sleep alone because there were shadows in the darkness of my room. Well, I used to think they were. But I pretended everything was okay to not distract parents from work. Jason: Hey, itâs not your fault. You were a child. Obviously, kiddo requires a lot of attention, they must have understood that. You are the second child in the family, right? Danny: Well, Jazz was different. I donât know. Anyway, I thought if the monsters behind the curtain and under the bed were just like me, well, according to my mom, you know, then they wouldnât want to hurt me. And since they look after me, they are friends. So I kinda greeted all the suspicious noises and howls. Huh, I was a strange kid. Jason: If you smile at someone in the dark alley right now that someone is more likely to wet themselves or faint. Danny: Rude! Iâm not that scary. Admit that Iâm adorable. Do it right now. Jason: Stunning, darling. But still carry a gun and a knife, please. My childhood taught me that what's hiding in the dark is worth beating up. Danny: Come on, what should I be afraid of? Death? Anyway, I want to try this shit. Like, the inevitable one. Being a bad boy, you know? Hood *raises eyebrows*. Danny: Oh damn it man, I'm talking about ghostliness. I want to try to be like most of dead ones. I want to unleash my side of the trickster and the villain. But only a little bit. I have to be supervised so that things don't go too far. Would you help me, honey?
~~~~~2 hours later~~~~
~~~~~
Goons used to expect a lot of weirdness from working with the boss.
Sometimes Bruce Wayne would go into their base and yell at the Red Hood like he's one of his kids. Of course Wayne's well-known as 'Gotta adopt them all' but the guy must really suffer from insomnia to count the Red Hood into his brood of chicks several times. Sometimes the boss would fight Robin or Nightwing over differences in moralsâŚor for biscuits. It varied from moment to moment. Sometimes the boss caught the local street children, fed them and taught them to steal correctly. And most of the foundlings stayed with them under their protection.
To make a long story short, Red Hood is not the typical crime lord that some of them had to deal with before. Which is a blessing. Thanks Lord for the health insurance. But still the crime lord. Which means he's still scary, and sometimes deadly.
Anyway, when the boss brought in a guy who looked more civilian than any civilian in the whole Gotham and said he was going to be their intern, they thought it was a joke at first. Despite the fact that Hood was not in the habit of joking while working.
The teenager was too well-mannered and sweet to come from Crime Alley. Phil thought the guy was gonna run when he saw the first murder, Jessica didnât think the domestic boy wouldnât chicken out at the sight of a fight. But arguing with a bossâs orders in their profession is like asking for a bullet in the head, so these conversations were taking place outside of their boss's sight. God, how can they teach him anything? What do you take from a boy whoâs only good to do the coffee run? Fenton will fall if theyâll give him something heavier than 10 pounds. And then boss will yell at them because he treats the new guy like a princess on a pea. Well, at least thatâs what they thought until the boss decided to give the new guy his own assignments:
~~~~~
Red Hood: So, what have you learned during your internship, my young Padawan? Danny: Well, it looks like Iâm gonna suck at being a criminal mastermind. I think I may have to find myself some other profession. Red Hood: Come on, you just need a little more practice. Danny: Thank you but I donât think thatâs fit my obsession that good. Don't misunderstand me, I wanna be like most ghosts. But I was wrong to go to hit that goal only base on human stereotypes about my nature. Red Hood: What a pity. The newbies just learned not to flinch when you walk in. But, to be honest, I'm not gonna miss the adrenaline-boosting roller coaster of you at work. Danny: Oh, and I guess to hold on to the concept of humanity was really stupid too. I clearly no longer fit in and Iâm finally ready to accept that. So, hopefully, if you get into trouble, you can rely on my ghostliness and call for help. I am the spirit of many talents and of my word. I can haunt your enemies or walk through the walls of Arkham Asylum. Whatever you need, Iâll be here. Red Hood: Iâll bear that in mind.
nonsense â DREW STARKEY
authors note i've wanted to write a singer!reader drew fic for the longest time. i've read some singer!reader fics lately and it gave me some inspiration to write my own. i hope you guys enjoy reading. this was also requested by an anon not long ago, so if youâre reading this enjoy đŠľ. the song choice is nonsense and just think to when sabrina is performing this song at coachella.
summary performing at coachella for the first time with friends and your lovely boyfriend supporting you in the crowd.
warnings none!
Coachella.
This is your first Coachella where you are performing. You will be playing live in front of millions of people. This is the last weekend for the festival.
Tens of thousands of people travel from all over the world to attend Coachella. The festival features sculptures, art installations, and other open events in addition to music.
When your manager called you about being invited to perform you couldn't believe your ears. Now, here you are about to step on stage.
Standing in a circle backstage with your crew, discussing everything you've prepared for over the last few days and having fun out there. This is what you always do before a show.
Second weekend of the festival.
Walking on stage seems like a surreal experience for you. Looking around, you can sense the intensity of the enormous crowd in front of you.
The weather was lovely, with the sun still shining and the breeze brushing over your skin.Â
"Hello Coachella, my name is Y/F/N, what's yours?" You smile into the microphone while waving away.
You began by introducing the crowd to yourself, your backup dancers, your music, if everyone is having a great time, etc.
Interacting with your fans is one of your favorite parts of singing on stage. You value your interactions with them since you like conversing. When you read comments on your shows, they usually mention how fascinating you are.
After singing a few songs from the set list, you took a little breather and spoke to the crowd saying a joke, making them laugh.
You begin the next song by sipping from an old-fashioned soda bottle while seated in a chair. As you take a seat, you glimpse your boyfriend, Drew, along with a couple of your friends and security.Â
You two make eye contact. Butterflies fill your stomach. You offer him a small wave, and he smiles and turns around, presumably blushing.
Fans up close captured the brief interaction with their phones out. We'll see it on social media later today.
Drew and you began dating in the midst of season three of Outer Banks. The first outing was Pougelandia, and fans began to speculate about your relationship because it came out of nowhere.
To be honest, Madelyn Cline and you were close friends before she began filming season one of Outer Banks. Sheâs the one who introduced you to Drew.
"The last song I'll be playing for you guys is nonsense, so if you know the lyrics, sing along," you cheer, lifting your free hand in the air, moving it around with excitement.
"Is it possible we get my amazing dancers out here," you turn around, pretending you have no idea where they went, "guys come out here, we could perform some sort of choreography, you know" as you gaze at your dance crew coming out the set.
Nonsense is about Drew.
It is one of your favorite songs that you have written. When you first released it, many were unsure who it was about until photos of Drew and you emerged.
Think I only want one number in phone
I might change your contact to "don't leave me alone"
You said you like my eyes and you like to make 'em role
Treat me like a queen, now you got me feelin' thrown, oh
You dance with your dancing crew, who are behind you and moving in sync. The choreography is muscle memory for you guys because you've been performing this song for a few years now.
But I can't help myself when you get close to me
Baby, my tongue goes numb, sounds like "bleh bleh bleh"
I don't want no one else (no no) baby, I'm into deep
Here's a little song I wrote (a song I wrote) its about you and me
When you sing the last line of the pre-chorus, you gesture to Drew in the audience, who moves his head side to side while listening to you sing and blushes when you point to him. You giggle into the microphone.
Fans started cheering louder as they watched you motioning to your lover in the audience.
You continue to move around stage all throughout the song.
You go around the center of the stage as your backup dancers finish their final few dances. One of your backup dancers grabs a chair for you to sit in.
At the end of nonsense you always come up with rhymes. Started doing this after the first performance and can't stop doing it.
Told him he makes me weak to my knees
Everything about him just so dreamy
By the way he's name Drew Starkey
When you say your boyfriend's name, the crowd cheers. You saw his response as he mouthed the words "I love you," dropped his jaw, and put his hands over his heart.
"Coachella, you've been amazing to me these past two weekends. Thank you so much. Can we please give a huge around of applause for our amazing dancers, come on out guys!" Excitement in your voice when you call your dance crew out on stage.
Once you guys made it off stage, you guys began cheering with a bunch of energy. Everyone gave each other hugs.
"Water is calling my name right now" you groan with urgency.
Approaching your manager, holding a cold water bottle for you- thanking her a few times as you open the bottle. You were about jugging down the water when you heard Drew's voice approaching.
"Hi baby," you squeal, dragging the y in baby, and rush into Drew's arms, wrapping your arms around his neck. Being in his arms sends relief in your body.
He smells so good.
He chuckles, "You did so well out there, so proud of you," and delicately places you on your feet.
"Thank you," blushing to the point where your cheeks were red. "Did you enjoy the outro of nonsense?" You inquire with curiosity, despite the fact that you already know his response.
He softly grins that makes your heart flutter, "Mhm yeah I did" kissing the top of your head, wrapping his right arm around your shoulder, pulling you closer to him.
"Why don't we get something to eat?" "How's that sound, baby?" Drew asks, his arm still around you.
Your ears and eyes light up from his request, âobviously yes.â
Before leaving you heard the voices of friends turning the corner. The rest of your friends, as well as Drew's cast members who are also your friends, returned to stage, thrilled to see you.
It was so good to see them.
Drew and you returned to the van to change, drove to the Airbnb to relax before returning to watch other artists perform after the sun had set with your friends.
hey could I possibly get a scenario of reader who is not Gojoâs s/o yet. Taking a nap in his presence. They donât plan it. They were talking with him for a bit. They just felt tired suddenly and fell asleep on the couch in the teacherâs lounge room next to Gojo in the middle of their conversation. Heâs the only one in the room?
. . .Hey @nesting-dreams, It's your turn today. Sorry that I took so long, college and work have been taking up most of my time so I have to squeeze these in here and there. Sorry that it's really short, for some reason I had a lot of trouble with this one. This takes place a few months before the events of Jujutsu Kaisen. Also, this is written in the third person, so I hope you don't mind it too much. The lyrics quoted in this one are from the song âPut You Head On My Shoulderâ by Paul Anka. âBennyđ°
âYou've got to give that poor kid a break; he's got his own missions already, you know?â Â
[Name] chuckles in exasperation from their place beside the strongest sorcerer, arms loosely crossed over their chest.
âWhaâ Oh c'mon, it builds character. It's not like Megumi won't get harder missions when he goes up a grade. Plus, it's a bonding thing too; he's getting to know more about me by experiencing what I do for work!â
The snow-white-haired man smoothly excuses himself, glancing at the person beside him.
[Name] rolled their eyes and attempted to playfully shove Gojo aside, only to have their hand stop just an inch from the man's clothed shoulder. They huffed, giving the man an annoyed expression as he chuckled at their futile action and rested his arm behind them on the sofa's backrest.
âYou and that damn infinityâ quit smiling like that, you weirdo.â Â
The first-grade sorcerer jokingly complained, rubbing their now sore wrist with their free hand as they lazily laid their head on the infinity that shielded Satoruâs shoulder.
Blindfolded blue eyes glance down at the top of [Name]âs head; his long arm moving from its place on the sofa's backrest to draping around their shoulder where slender fingers annoyingly pinched at their cheeks.
âYa tired? Stay up all night doing boring paperwork again~? That's why I just make Ijichi do mine.~â Â
The white-haired man blabbered as his hand continued to busy itself with poking at the other's face.
The shorter only hums quietly at first, swatting at his bothersome and intrusive appendage, before quietly muttering:
â...You always bully that poor man⌠you make me feel bad for âem.â Â
Gojo lets out a quiet but amused chuckle, beginning to play with and tug at the ends of a few thin locks of [Name]âs hair. The first-grade sorcerer grunts in annoyance and swats at his hands again, shrugging their shoulders up to their ears to hide them from their fellow teacherâs nimble hands. The blindfolded man then âârelentsââ and only rests his hand on their shoulder.
âI don't understand why you feel bad for that guy; he works for those damn geezers.â Â
He complains, tossing his head back childishly and digging in his ear with his pinky while tracing the lines in the textured ceiling with his gaze.
A few moments of silence âwith the addition of soft rhythmic breathingâ pass after his words before he lifts his head and casts his gaze to the left. The sight of a close-eyed [Name] greets him; their body and expression fully relaxed, allowing him to tell that they had fallen asleep easily. After a few seconds of admiring their sleeping face, Satoru deactivates his infinity, allowing the first-grade sorcerer's soft and warm cheek to rest on the fabric of his uniform jacket.Â
A soft sigh escapes his nostrils as his hand resumes playing with their messy locks of hair.
âYou know you could ask Yaga to switch classes with you if those third years are giving you this much trouble⌠Man, you're even more hard-headed than Suguru wasâŚâ Â
The white-haired man mutters quietly, his own eyes closing as he rests his head on top of his friend's.
~3.8k - MDNI - Dark fic! Please mind the content warning above
The captain looks at you for a long moment, dark blue eyes wide with surprise as he takes you in. You have to admit that heâs handsome, dark brown hair and well-groomed facial hair (muttonchops, no less) flecked with silver, and a nice nose that skews to the large side. It gives him a friendly, approachable demeanour, despite the weight of his stare. His heavy attention shifts from you to the other three, and his expression turns serious. âLads,â he says, his voice a rumble that you can feel through your own body. âPlease tell me this isnât what it looks like.â
âWeeeel. It might be,â Johnny says apprehensively. âBut I did my research, sir. Sheâll be perfect for ye, yeâll see.â
âSheâs a good girl,â Ghost adds. âSweet as can be. Wonât be any trouble for you.â
âAlready moved her in and everything.â Gaz gestures around the room, looking rather too proud of their work.
The captain nods slowly, taking in the new additions to the space. âSo you did. And did this pretty little thing agree to having her life upended, or did you lads just decide for her?â His arms shift around you, and you feel almost protected, oddly enough, even though by the size of him, heâs just as dangerous as the others. Probably even more dangerous, the way they defer to him, standing in a line like cadets, eager for his approval.
âNot⌠Not exactly,â Gaz admits. âI mean, we didnât ask. But thisâll be better for her. She was living in a real rat hole before. Tiny little apartment in a shite neighbourhood. Was only a matter of time before something bad happened. Weâre just looking out for her.â
Johnny shuffles his feet. âDealt with a few neds while I was doinâ reconnaissance, even. Poor lass coulda been in real trouble if I hadna been there. Bawbag employers would ask her to stay past the last bus to watch the bairns anâ noâ even offer her a ride or ta pay fer a cab.â
âIt wasnât that far a walk,â you protest, glaring at Johnny. As if itâs any of his business. âAnd they did offer to drive me, I just wasnâtâ It doesnât matter! You had no rightââ
The captain shushes you, and your words wither on your tongue, your cheeks turning hot under his stern blue gaze. He cups your jaw and turns your head to face him again, the rough pad of his thumb stroking your cheek gently. âSweetheart, you and I will talk in a moment. Soapâs right about that not beinâ safe, and you know it.â
Your stomach flutters nervously. He gives you a little smile, and his crowâs feet deepen, the lines fanning out further. Thereâs a moment where youâre tempted to smile back, but his legs shift under you, and you wince sympathetically instead. âSorry, I should get off of you,â you say quickly. âIâm heavy.â
âI wonât stop you if youâd like to sit somewhere else,â he says, that cheeky smile deepening more. "But youâre not heavy, and I'd like it if you stayed put."
"Told ye he'd like her," Johnny whispers, loud enough that it shatters the isolated pocket of reality that, for a moment, housed only you and the captain. "Hasna even introduced himself an' he's flirtin' like mad."
"Soap!" Gaz hisses back. "Shut up."
Ghost scruffs them both. "Let's finish getting dinner on. Give 'em a minute to talk."
Johnny grins at you and gives you two thumbs up as he circles around to the kitchen, as if youâd actually been a willing participant in all of this.
"I'm John, by the way," the captain says, calling your attention back to him. He drops his hand and settles it on your knee, his fingers curling around the joint. "You alright, doll?"
A loaded question. "Well. Not really."
"You're keepin' it together real nicely, all considered. Wouldn't blame you if you were hissin' and scratching."
"I'm not much of a fighter," you admit. "And even if I was, I don't think it would do me much good."
John chuckles, squeezing your knee lightly. He's gentle, but there's power in those hands, the kind that comes from years of hard work. There's scars all over it, from his the tips of his calloused fingers up to the leather band of his watch, etched in evidence of violence. If there are scars further up his arms, their hidden by the buffalo plaid flannel. "No, it probably wouldn't."
"Are you going to let me go home?" you ask.
He sighs. "The thing is, doll, the boys have put me in an awkward spot here. If I let you go on home, you're going to get them in trouble, and I don't want to see that happen."
"I promise, I won't say anything, I just--"
He shushes you again, and you shut your mouth, biting your lip. "Let me finish, sweetheart. You're being so good right now because you're scared. But that's not gonna last, is it? And worse, it sounds like you don't really have much to go back to."
"I'll find a new job. I always do."
"With another family who doesn't appreciate the work you put in? That doesn't make you feel safe?" His fingertips toy with the edge of your skirt absently, but his eyes are on your face, studying your reaction with rapt attention. This is how a rabbit must feel, pinned under the stare of a grizzly bear, frozen in place and hoping that no claws come down on top of it. "I can read between the lines, doll. That man you were workin' for made you feel so uncomfortable that you'd rather walk through a bad neighbourhood at night than get into a car with him alone."
You can't dispute it, although you're surprised he can glean so much information from half an outburst. "It wasn't like that-- He wasn't that bad."
John hums. "You're tellin' me you've had worse?"
A dozen jobs with a dozen managers or coworkers that took your silence as permission to stand too close, or put their hands on you flash across your mind. Mr. Kinsey was just the latest of many. You know that the thought is displayed on your face, from the way his eyebrows pinch together just slightly, not angrily, but concerned. You try to deflect with a little laugh. "Oh, well. I suppose I have. But hasn't everyone?"
"Soap had a bad lieutenant once and locked the man in his own car when he was just a private. Just because you have a bad boss doesn't mean you have to take it." He looks at you so seriously as he speaks, his fingers dancing distracting circles against the top of your knee, rough fingertips catching on the nylons just slightly. The heat from the arm curled around your waist bleeds through the fabric of your dress, his hand twitching slightly, like all he wants to do is take a handful of soft flesh. âYou should speak up when youâre not comfortable, doll. You just need some practice standinâ up for yourself, donât you?â
If a statement could have teeth, this one would, and youâre not sure if agreeing or disagreeing will have him closing his jaws around you. Heâs probably right, you do need to do a better job of standing up for yourself. But youâre certain that he doesnât want you to start by standing up to him, or his three attack dogs either. âIâll work on it,â you say meekly. You test his commitment to the statement by gently picking his hand off of your knee, although thereâs nowhere to really put it either.
âWeâll work on it,â he agrees, lacing your fingers together. When he rests your now-entwined hands, itâs a little further up your thigh. âYou want a drink, darlinâ?â
âOh, um, no thank you.â You wouldnât mind another tea, but you donât think thatâs what youâre being offered.
The scrutiny he puts you under is intense, like heâs determined to figure out what every microscopic shift in your expression might mean. âYou sure, doll? You gotta ask if you want somethinâ, or you wonât get it.â
âI would like a tea. But I can make it, I donât want to be trouble.â
âNonsense. Lads?â he tips his head back slightly.
âOn it, sir,â Gaz replies cheerfully.
Ghost leans over the back of the couch to hand John a tumbler. Whiskey or scotch, by the sharp smell that hits you. John pulls his hand away from yours to accept the glass. âThank you, Simon,â he says pleasantly. "Good lad."
âSâyour party, sir. Anâ youâre busy, ainât you?â Ghost rests his hands on the back of the couch and studies the pair of you, dark eyes gleaming with pride. The man has the demeanour of a cat thatâs brought in a helpless little bunny to his master, while itâs still alive and struggling.
âGettinâ to know our pretty guest.â John smiles at you over the rim of his glass as he takes a sip. âSheâs a sweet girl.â
âIsnât she just?â
âCould I, um, sit over there?â you ask, glancing at the chair. Somehow John had managed to distract you from the idea of moving for a while, but you were still eager to get a little space from him, especially with Ghost looming over both of you.
âOf course, sweetheart,â Johnâs arm loosens, and you quickly get up and move to the chair.
You almost feel cold, without the heat that radiates off of his body. His attention feels weightier now too, or maybe itâs just that his body isnât shielding the stares from Johnny, Gaz and Ghost, and youâre subjected to all four of them watching you, like youâre either fascinating or delicious (or both). You cross your arms over your chest and shrink into yourself as much as possible, eyes wide.
"Here's yer tea, hen. And may I just say, ye've go' a fantastic rack from this angle." Johnny hands you the mug and sits on the arm of the chair, leaning over you. "Weel. Ye've go' a nice rack from any angle. Nice arse too. Captain's lucky I like him so much, or I'd've gone for you myself."
You breathe in steam, wrinkling your nose slightly. It doesn't smell quite right. "Did you put something in this?"
"Aye. Finger of whiskey. Ye look all stiff and peaky still. Need a pick me up, don't ya?"
You look at him reproachfully. He sighs and plucks the tea from your hands and takes a big sip. "There's nothin' else in there, if that's what yer askin', ye suspicious wee daftie. A little whiskey ne'er hurt no one." He hands the mug back to you, smile crooked, doing his best to be charming, but he's too intense, too fervent, to be anything but unsettling.
âGot Johnny checkinâ everythinâ for poison, do you?â Ghost asks, chuckling. âCanât say I blame you.â He nudges John with the back of his hand. âSheâs smart, worth keepinâ an eye on that. Knowâs âow to âold âer tongue, but sheâs listeninâ and payinâ attention.â
âOf course she is! Wouldna choose a lass withoot a brain in her head. Wouldna be worth the captainâs time. Weel, maybe worth a wee bit of time.â He winks down at you. âBut noâ wife material, ye ken. Chose her because sheâs delightful, noâ just âcause sheâs bonnie.â
The few times youâd spoken to Johnny before youâd thought that he was so nice. Laughing and joking with you in the pick up line while you waited for the children you were respectively responsible, greeting his niece and nephew with big smiles. And Finn and Rory were always so excited to see him, youâd chalked him up as harmless. Clearly you hadnât been paying enough attention then, too focused on the Kinsey kids and your job, maybe. You hadnât noticed that he was appraising you like a piece of livestock, judging your value like youâd been put up to auction.
The whisky-fortified tea is a bit on the strong side, but you take a few sips anyway. Getting drunk would be unwise, but youâre so tense that your whole body is starting to ache, and thatâs not doing you any good either.
âDinnerâs ready,â Gaz announces, untying his kiss the cook apron and setting it on the counter. âHope youâre hungry. Soap made a cake earlier too.â
John raises an eyebrow. âYou can bake?â he asks, surprised.
âAye, picked it up while I was gettinâ rehabbed for the big fuck-off hole in my head,â he replies airily. âWas goinâ mental putterinâ around Kirstyâs waitinâ for the bairns to get out of school, so Ah picked it up. Isnae so hard. Just chemistry, aye?â
âHe did make a big mess,â Gaz says. âHad to wash about fifty dishes before I could get started on dinner.â
âEveryoneâs a fuckinâ critic,â Johnny complains. âSee if I bake ye a cake for yer birthday, Garrick. Yeâll be sorry then.â
âOh no, how will I survive?â Gaz clutches his chest like heâs deeply wounded by the statement, laughing. âI have two mums, Iâm still pretty much guaranteed a cake.â
âAlways bragginâ abouâ that. Thinks heâs more evolved than the rest of us just because his daâs a woman.â He hovers next to you as you get up, and sticks close as you walk over to the table. You donât choose a seat, in case thereâs an order to things youâre not aware of.
âPretty sure the whole point is that he dunât âave a dad,â Ghost says. âNow sit down, mutt. Yer not sittinâ next to the bird. Youâre botherinâ âer.â He points at a chair, and Johnny sighs and slinks into it.
âHere, sweetheart,â John says, putting his big hand on your back to guide you the last few steps and directing you to a seat. He slides the chair in for you too, masquerading as a gentleman, and sits next to you.
Gaz settles in on your other side, all smiles. âFeeling better?â
They keep asking you how you are, as if the answer is going to change. Like all you need to adjust to the reality of being kidnapped and relocated to some strangerâs house in the country is a little time. Like youâre going to be just fine, if you just get a few more minutes to adjust. âNot really.â
"Ah, don't worry, doll. Captain's gonna be real good to you. You'll get there soon enough. Probably'll feel better once you've had a proper meal."
At least they don't try to make you talk much at the table. They fall into easy conversation between them, and let you eat roasted chicken and potatoes and carrots with some kind of sweet and mildly spicy glaze. Ghost pulls the mask down to eat, so you're able to watch when he goes slightly pink from what barely qualifies as spice. Gaz gives you a little side-long glance, and you almost laugh. There's some solidarity to be had, even in a situation like this one, something funny about how a little more spice could probably straight up kill the other three men at the table. Maybe that would be the key to you freedom: Murdering John by feeding him something full of chilies.
Admittedly, you do feel begrudgingly more charitable towards them after eating. You could maybe blame it on the tea too, which, against your better judgment, you do end up finishing.
John stops you from helping clean up when you stand automatically and try to stack Gaz's empty plate with your own. "No, sweetheart. Câmere." He guides you to the door and out into the chilly evening air. You wish that Ghost had let you put on a sweater over your summery dress, but he had been so keen to show you off, and youâd been too scared to insist. You curl your arms around yourself for warmth, and keep quiet, watching as John trims and lights a cigar, looking out into the darkness beyond the porch.
Fear has morphed from pressing terror to something that gnaws at you from the pit of your stomach. You could try to run for it, but youâd probably roll your ankle wearing the stupid red heels, and you have no real idea where you are, or how far you are from someone who could help you. Outrunning John would be a feat anyway. Heâs older than you, but heâs in better shape, nearly perfect shape, broad and strong, that long military career not yet forgotten.
Thereâs a bench by the door, so you sit down to take the heels off. Youâre not used to wearing them, itâs so rare that you have anywhere to go that calls for spicier footwear than your comfortable, worn in trainers.
âHere.â John slides his flannel shirt off and drapes it over your shoulders, and kneels down in front of you, cigar clamped in his mouth, pulling your heels off for you. Smoke curls around you for a moment, thin and blue in the scant light, before a breeze carries it away. He leans on his one leg and studies you, but he doesnât stand. âYouâre beautiful, you know that?â
You put your arms through the sleeves of the flannel, humming noncommittally. You know youâre pretty enough, by most standards, but you feel like his interestâ And the interest of the other threeâ is disproportionate, too intense.
âIâd like you to stay a while, doll,â he continues. âI wonât force you, Iâm not that kind of man, but Iâd have a hard time letting you go back to living paycheck to paycheck in a bad nieghbourhood, workinâ for creeps that donât know how to keep their hands to themselves. You deserve better than that.â Itâs as though he doesnât even hear his own words though, or imagines himself better, because he absently runs his hands over your calf, squeezing the tense muscle gently.
âI have to work,â you protest, biting back a moan. You didnât need to encourage him, even if you werenât quite brave enough (or willing) to stop him. âI have student loans, and I send money to my lola in Vigan. I canât afford to just disappear off the face of the earth.â
He nods thoughtfully. âHow much?â
"Three hundred pounds a month to Lola. I know it might not seem like a lot, but it goes a lot further there."
"And the student loans?"
"Sixteen thousand. Not that much, I worked through my degree, and I inherited a bit of money from my parents. But I still have to--"
"I'll pay for both. You'll stay until you find a good job, and a safer apartment." He says it like it's a final edict, no room for argument.
You pull your leg out of his grip, tucking both further back under the bench. "No, John, I don't want to owe you either--"
"You won't. My boys kidnapped you and disrupted your whole life. I'd pay a lot more if it keeps you from going to the police over it. Least I can do is make sure you're better off when you do leave here, hm?"
You bite your lip. Starting over with a clean slate is tempting, but you're not sure you can trust John. He seems so earnest, blue eyes clear and guileless, but he can't be much better than the other three. Unless he was just holding their leashes tight as their captain, and had to let them loose when he retired.
"Can I think about it?" you ask.
"Of course." He puts his hand on your knee to steady himself as he leans across to ash the cigar in the ashtray that sits on a little table next to the bench. "But I think you'll say yes. You're a smart girl, hm?"
You're tempted to say no, just to test weather or not he's being honest about not forcing you to stay, but there's a niggling worry in the back of your mind that the veneer of civility will evaporate if you push him on it. He's nice enough now. And maybe that niceness isn't a show, maybe he has no darker side, maybe it's all just paranoia on your part. Perhaps the worst thing about him is his predilection to protect his "boys", even though all three are clearly insane.
Military is like that, isnât it? The whole brotherhood thing? Maybe fighting for your life beside someone changes how you see them forever.
âHow long did you all serve together?â you ask. âJohnny mentioned that he was SAS beforeâ I asked about the scar once.â You tap the side of your head, the same spot where Johnny has a nasty bullet scar.
âLong time. Hand-picked Gaz and Soap for my taskforce about ten years back. Simon and I served together longer. Heâs a captain now, even if the lads still call him LT. Theyâre both lieutenants, and Gazâll be a captain himself before long. Probably wouldâve been already if heâd transferred out of the 141.â He gets up with a grunt and settles onto the bench beside you. âDonât think Simonâs long for it. Heâs only still in because he wants to keep an eye on Soap. Manâs a bloody romantic. Live together or die together.â
âI didnât realize that they were together at all.â
âThe way Soapâs been droolinâ all over you, Iâm not surprised.â He puffs on his cigar thoughtfully. âBut Simonâs just like that, as far as I can tell. The worldâs divided into three categories. Enemies, his people, and everyone else. Enemies ânâ everyone else canât touch whatâs his, but heâs never given a damn about Soap sleepinâ with Gaz, or me.â
âIâm not his people.â
John looks at you and shakes his head. âCourse you are, doll. Youâre one of our people now. They mightâve gotten a bit overzealous, bringing you here the way they did, but those lads would do anything you asked of âem now.â
A bit overzealous. You laugh, but the sound comes out bitter.
"Relax, doll. I know you're determined to hate them, but they're good lads. Their hearts are in the right place." He pets a big hand over your head and rests it on the back of your neck, warmth seeping into your bones, relieving some of the ache from all the tension of the day. John has a way of soothing that terrified little animal in your chest that would otherwise threaten to kick itâs way free from your ribs and flee into the dark trees. âLookinâ out for me, in their own way. Lookinâ out for you too. If your situation was a better one, they wouldnâtâve plucked you out of it like that.â
Thereâs hope in his eyes when you look up at him, hope that youâll forgive and forget, that youâll come around to some kind of understanding in time. His thumb brushes a sensitive spot behind your ear, sending an awful, irrefutable thrill through you.
Youâre worried that he might be right.
My favourite John Price to write is the sneakiest, most charming, manipulative bastard on the planet. I definitely take a lot of inspiration from 391780 's portrayal of him. The Rear Window and Neighborly have been forefront in my mind while working on this (Largely because I think my John would have taken a similar approach if the lads hadn't jumped the gun. The Rear Window is dark, so be warned! Early writes delicious dark fics, but that may not be everyone's cup of tea, so mind the tags.)
bridges burnt - chapter 5 [epilogue series] (regina george x reader)
fandom: Mean Girls (all media)
pairing: Regina George x OFC/Reader
summary: When an invitation to Gretchen Wieners' wedding ended up in your mailbox, you'd been sure it was a mistake. Only, it read your name in neat, swoopy calligraphy. It was addressed to you. And Regina George, whom you hadn't spoken to in years.
additional clarification: This is set in the universe of yard work, a series of mine that can be found on my page! Reading this one might be a bit challenging without the context of the series :)
warning(s): weed mischief
chapter 1 / chapter 2 / chapter 3 / chapter 4
You were sitting at your table, chatting amicably with everyone, when Gretchen finally graced you with her presence. She was glowing, that much you could admit.
"Hey, guys!" She gave an energetic greeting. You smiled and waved.
"Oh em gee, Gretch!" Regina said as she stood up. She was considerably taller than the bride, with killer heels that gave some significant inches. They did air kisses on each cheek and cooed and squealed for a little.
"It's been so long! You're so rarely in town I wasn't sure you'd come!" Gretchen enthused. Her husband stood on the sidelines, looking quite put out but trying to hide it.
"Oh, you know I always make time for you," A blatant lie but you weren't going to say anything about it. "I'm so happy you've found love!"
"Me too," Gretchen gushed, snaring her boo-thang by the arm. He'd zoned out so startled a little but recovered quick with a dashing smile.
"Hi, I'm Michael." Of course, his name was Michael. What was next? Chad? Tucker?
"Regina. Regina George." Regina said, then turned to you. "And this is my partner."
You stood up and shook his hand, then said your name. "Nice to meet you. Congrats."
Michael nodded, smiling uncomfortably. He'd seemed sociable and open with the other guests so you didn't get why he was being all shy now.
"Thanks!" Gretchen chirped. Her eyes flitted between you and Regina. "Sorry if this is abrupt, but you two are still together?"
"We did go on a break right before college." Regina chose her words deliberately. "But after that, we just couldn't resist. True love just pulls you in, doesn't it?" She put her arm around your waist and pulled you to her. You stumbled a little, falling into her. Your arms came around her neck.
Gretchen looked quite unsettled by the close embrace. "It totally does." She said, tone falling flat.
"Mmh. Well, what plans have you got? Honeymoon?"
"Michael's been planning it for us," Gretchen said. That surprised you considering she was such a control freak. Perhaps you were wrong.
"There's no keeping secrets from her," Michael laughed. "Surprising her is too damn hard." His Southern twang was prominent. Something was charming about him, you supposed.
"I just want it to be right, Mike!" Gretchen teased, lightly hitting him on the shoulder. "I've been better haven't I? I let Deborah do the flower arrangements."
"Yes, dear," Michael said, looking down at Gretchen with real, genuine love in his eyes.
Seeing them interact, so sweet on one another, made you sad. First of all, because you were so similar. You were on the same level, people just the same as them. Looking at them like this, in just the context of the moment currently playing out, you didn't want to ruin their wedding.
But you had history. Gretchen had outed you to the school in junior year of high school. It'd had devastating effects on your life as a whole. Your father went from cold neglect to open disdain, you lost the jobs you were doing around the neighbourhood, your peers ostracised you. Those close to you, Regina mostly, got targeted rumours spread around and more negative attention than ever.
Gretchen was not the sole reason for your and Regina's break up but definitely one of them. You had settled to forgive and forget when you came back to town, to stay away and not say anything in a silent, mutual agreement. You buried the hatchet and thought she had, too.
You should've known better. Watching her make googly eyes at her husband as if the things she did had no bearing, no weight, infuriated you. She had ruined your life. Things had progressed since you were in high school and outing didn't have quite the same fallout, but what she did to Kylie was still unforgivable. There hadn't been that much progress. Gay marriage was still illegal in some states.
"Man, Gretchen, seeing you like this brings me back." You said, eyeing her. "Those sure were the days," You sighed and played wistful.
The bride and groom shared glances. Regina picked up what you were putting down and got involved.
"You'll be seeing just how much of a wildcat she is, Michael," Regina said, laying it on thick. "You have my number, Gretch, just give me a call if you wanna relive old times on your wedding night." She finished off with a saucy wink. You almost couldn't hold in your laughter.
"Toodles," Regina wiggled her fingers and took you by the arm, leading you away.
Once you were a safe distance away, you asked: "Wonder if they'll talk about that in private?"
"About Gretchen being involved, allegedly, in a lesbian threesome sandwich? I'd bet on it." Regina grinned.
You steered towards the exit to the parking lot where your car was. You had the kazoos and water pistols in the trunk. Maybe you spent a good fifteen minutes pinning Regina to the side of your flashy vintageâBetty the Catalina, you introducedâsucking the soul out of her through her mouth. Making out. Whatever, that was neither here nor there.
While Regina set out to find a gullible mother to deceive into giving out kazoos and water pistols, you called a guy. Rick was his name and he owed you a favour. He happened to be the owner of several karaoke bars. He'd hook you up.
"Yeah, anything will do, just needs to connect to the loudspeakersâuhh, pretty new I'd say, nothing too fancy but they didn't skimp out, that's for sureâyeah, yeah, I'll give you the address. Can he get here in an hour? Maybe less? I can pay his speeding tickets, no worries."
After making sure a karaoke machine would be delivered to the reception, you strutted back towards the building. On the way, you spotted three youths huddled in a non-descript spot by some shed. They were only visible from the parking lot. You knew what they were up to.
"Hey, kids," You sidled up to them, prompting the tallest of them to fumble with the joint he was trying to light. He had acne all over and residues of black eyeliner on his eyes. He had a strip of hair dyed stripey like a racoon tail. It was pretty cool, to be honest.
"H- hey," He stuttered, voice cracking as he swiped some hair from his eyes. Oh, to be young.
"You got weed?" You decided to be blunt. (Ha, blunt.) The two others were shaking like leaves in their tuxedos.
"No. I don't, like, even know what that is," The ring-leader crossed his arms defensively and leaned casually against the wall of the shed. Or, well, he was going for casual but looked extremely spooked.
"Well, that's a damn shame 'cause I was just looking to buy some." You said and reached into your breast pocket to pull out your wallet. You opened it and pulled out a couple of fifties. "I got all this cash to burn. But, hey, if you don't got any..."
"You'd pay that much for weed?" The boy eyed the bills hungrily.
"I'll be straight with you, kid-"
"I'm not a kid. I'm seventeen." He grumped. "Flint. Or Finnigan, I guess."
"Alright, Flint, I'm gonna put this bluntly. Your family sorta sucks." You looked at the other two. They were probably all cousins. Wouldn't tattle if Flint, the Cool One, told them not to. They didn't seem that much younger. As a responsible adult, you should've probably said something along the lines of 'don't smoke it's bad for you' but you were just glad they weren't shooting up or anything.
"Understatement of the century," He scoffed.
"Which side are you from, by the way?"
"The groom's." They all said in unison. That explained why you'd never seen most of these folk.
"I don't know much about him to be fair, but if he's shacking up with Gretchen I'm pretty sure they're equally sucky. Anyway, I'm trying to get everybody as fucked up as possible." You clarified, skirting around exactly what you were trying to do which was to ruin the wedding. Maybe these kids had better morals than you. "The bride sorta caused a rift between my girlfriend and I years back, outed me to the whole school, it was a scandal, we broke up and I spiralled. It was bad and I want revenge."
"She outed you? Like..." Flint looked around, looking scared someone was gonna hear. Nobody else was around. "Like you're gay?"
"I'm here with my girlfriend today." You said, smiling dopeyly. Your cheeks hurt. "I think we're back together. It's complicated. So, you wanna sell?"
"Hell yeah," He grinned, teeth crooked to the ninth degree. "Can we get in on it? Michael totally sucks, he orders us around like we're his minions or something."
The other two nodded along empathetically. They all had the same boxy, swoopy haircut that kept falling into their eyes. What luck that ran into the angsty teens of the clan.
"I don't know how much you'll be able to do without getting in trouble with your parents. Gotta be at least a little subtle."
Flint dug into his backpack and pulled out a plastic tupperware. There were some decent-looking nugs in there from what you could see through the frosted plastic. You handed over the cash.
"Pleasure doing business with you." You contemplated for a moment. "Any chance you could pull the fire alarm for the cake-cutting?"
The three matching evil grins were enough of an answer for you. Their little emo faces made your chest feel warm. You wanted to take them under your wing, or something.
"By the way, weed is fine. It's not great, I don't recommend it, but if you're gonna do drugs then this is best case scenario." You shook the plastic case in your hand. "Never do hard drugs. It's gonna make your hair fall out and teeth hurt like a bitch."
You left the three teenagers to smoke their blunt, knowing that your little shpiel probably went through one ear and out the other. You hoped they pulled through but if they didn't, you were planning on doing enough wicked shit that the sprinklers triggering would just be a cherry on top.
You found Janis smoking a cigarette at the same spot you'd been at earlier.
"You got a grinder?"
You opened the lid of the box, blasting the air with the potent smell of cannabis.
"Where the fuck did you get all that?" She asked as she reached into her purse.
"Not important. What is, though, is how we'll get the guests high."
Janis, the bright mind that she was, immediately got to work. You didn't even bother asking what she was up to when she crouched on the floor and began grinding away. She had fast hands, you observed, with how quick and clean she was rolling several blunts. Now that you saw clearly into the tupperware, lord almighty Flint had a lot of kush.
"What's the plan?" You asked after a moment, holding the box in one hand and blunts in the other. You stubbornly ignored the compulsion to stick one between your lips and light up. That was over for you.
"Find a Helen, a Beatrice, and or a Leigh-Anne, and convince them this is a miracle herb harvested from the government-protected, top-secret alpine springs of Florida, known for reversing wrinkles, repairing hymens, and with long-term use reducing hair growth neck down. It might even accelerate or delay menopause, depending on whose asking."
"Florida is the flattest state in the continental USA." You pointed out.
"Exactly." Janis didn't spare you a glance, just kept on rolling.
"So we're spinning a multilevel-marketing scheme on these people."
"Not really." Janis paused and turned to you. "We're just scamming them. Not even with money, with the devil's lettuce."
"That's arguably worse. I think this might be a felony."
"Oh, it definitely is."
Notes: The ball is rolling! At last! It only took five chapters good golly god.
Stitches and Sentences Roundup 2024
Thanks for the tags on your writing round ups @run-for-chamo-miles, @drowninginships, and @emeryhall! I just got back from a weeklong trip and instead of doing laundry, I'm joining in on the roundup fun.
FIC I moved from lurker to active fandom participant this year with a bang. I posted my first fic ever for EGF and have basically been writing or posting non-stop since then. I wrote/co-wrote 5 fics this year and clocked in at 101, 725 words.
Kill Em With Kindness - rated T, 6.5k, Watford-Era, getting together fic
When no one seems to care that Baz is sad, Simon steps in to help. The only reasonable explanation for all Simon's kindness is that he's trying to kill Baz, right? (My most popular fic as measured by kudos.)
Knock Your Socks Off - rated T, 4k, Watford-Era, 7th year fic
Baz steals Simon's socks. Simon blames the sock monster. Chaos ensues.
The Eternal Life of Baz Pitch - rated M, 42k, Addie LaRue AU, a truly epic romance
Told in two alternating timelines that span from 1700s Hampshire all the way to early 2000's Washington, DC, this fic follows Baz as he spends centuries searching for the love of all his lives. (This was the fic that convinced me I could write long and holds a very special place in my heart. Is it angsty? Yes. Is it some of the most beautiful prose I've ever written? Also yes.)
The Boy Next Door - rated M, 47k, and they were neighbors AU, a coming of age romance
When Simon moves in with his gran, he decides to befriend the mysterious boy next door. He changes both their lives in the process. (My most popular fic by literally every other measure.)
The Reason for The Season - rated T, 1.6k, text fic, co-written with @thewholelemon
Dev and Niall make a list. Holiday hijinks abound. (A bday gift for @mooncello)
ART I do not currently have a great way to track my dolls and searched my Instagram to do the math, only to realize I hadn't posted every doll I made either! (If anyone has a good art tracking system, I'm open to ideas.) If my count is correct, I clocked in at a grand total of 35 dolls this year, including:
10 Simons
15 Bazzes
2 Pennys
2 Nialls
2 Devs
1 Mage
1 Fiona
1 Agatha
1 Shep
The picture below shows my earliest dolls, where I was still experimenting with style and form. As you can see, many of them are quite flat. (Fun fact: All of these dolls--including their clothing--were made before I owned a sewing machine.)
Going 3D was actually an accident, but we have the Watford Baz and Simon below to thank for it! After committing to 3D dolls, I kept evolving my pattern---improving joints, proportions, and adding details like ears!---until we reached my most current iterations.
Now every doll has their own special pattern that takes into account their canon proportions, where available. Notice Baz is tall and slender where Simon is extra fluffy!
I did not include any of the dolls I created for COC 2024 since I assume everyone has seen them already, but I linked the master post in case you missed a day.
Finally, in addition to dolls, I also created 2 plushies (a merwolf and a bunbaz) plus 12 finger puppets this year.
It's hard to quantify dolls like fics, especially since almost every doll before COC did not have a dedicated tumblr post. However, here are some fun art stats:
Most Popular Art Post: The Watford Map
Most Popular Doll: FIONA!
Second Most Popular Doll: Felt Smut (Look @emeryhall! Dragonboy Simon is indeed the sexiest given that this is my duplicate of your doll!)
I also had three art collaborations this year:
Baz and The Prophecy - Doll and Tapestry, a COTTA collaboration with @iamamythologicalcreature
Ballet Baz and Disco Simon - a CORB collaboration with @melodysmash (Read the fic she wrote--Body Language. It is as adorable as these dolls!)
Watford Advent Map - a tapestry made for COC 2024 with help from @rimeswithpurple
While it has definitely been a fabulously productive year, I think my greatest achievement has been all the new friendships I've fostered because of fandom. Y'all bring me so much joy, and I am so happy I found this little corner of the internet.
I am currently drained of all creative energy (I can't imagine why!), so you may not hear from me for a while. However, I promise I am still around---likely catching up on all the fic and art I've missed while being a literal word and doll factory. With all that said, if you have an idea and wanna collab in the new year, I'm all ears and tons of fun!
Hellos and high-fives for the last time in 2024! @alexalexinii, @argumentativeantitheticalg, @aristocratic-otter, @arthurkko, @artsyunderstudy
Chapter 3:
Over time, you grew less and less worried with Leonâs nice behavior. Your math grade has gone up significantly, surpassing a low C which is a passing grade, but since the tutor sessions have become much more bearable, you havenât felt the need to stop going. Besides, you have an A streak to fulfill.
Your friends stayed suspicious about the frat boyâs intentions, however. The way youâd become so unbothered with everything relating to him had them stressed, yet at the end of the day, âno asshole can hold up a facade like that for this longâ, as per Skyâs words.
Easygoing is the best way to describe Leon at this point. A gentle soul, from what you can tell. He goes out of his way to hold the door for you, share his food with you whenever he brings it, and he even gets excited with you whenever you get an A on any of your assignments or tests. It makes you happy that you held out for him.
âAnd that makes sense to you?â Leon was standing next to you, leaned over with both his hands on the table. You were both in the study room, only this time you had finished everything math related. Thanksgiving break had come and gone so everything had shifted towards the finals before Winter break, meaning now you were using the space to go over the study guide for the final given by one of your other professors, though it wouldâve been nice to have your math study guide to burn into your brain since itâs your biggest struggle.
âYeah, this is easy for me,â you mutter, hand against your mouth as your eyes move back and forth across the packet of information in front of you. Having Leon leaning over you had been commonplace since mid-November. He turned out to be very nosey. âShouldnât you be focusing on your own classes?â
You didnât need to look at him to know he was extremely confused by your study guide. âUhh.. nah,â he stood upright and slowly made his way around the table, sitting down in front of you with a small groan as he relaxed into the seat. âIâve made it through the past couple years here without âem. No need for âem now.â You nodded to the side at his, bringing the pen you were holding up to your mouth to nibble on the end of it. âMakes senseâŚâ
It took awhile before you noticed his nervous fidgeting, looking up from your study guide to give him a worried look. âAre you bored? I can finish up in my dorm if you-â
âDo you want to get dinner with me tonight?â He cut you off, his eyes meeting yours before the room fell silent. The question was so sudden and you werenât expecting anything like it, so it just had you confused. You mustâve looked it, too, since he moved his eyes away from yours while crossing his arms. âI mean-.. Yâknow, figured Iâd ask..â
Seeing him get nervous was always pretty cute to you, such a handsome guy getting worked up over you never failed to flatter you. âOh, yeah! Iâd like that, actually..â You giggled when Leon looked back at you, soon grabbing your few supplies to put back into your backpack.Â
Relief spread across his face, moving to stand as you collected your items. âGood, okay, uh.. Howâs Olive Garden sound?â To the average college student, Olive Garden was some high class fine dining. Anyone would be a fool to say no to an offer like that.
Just like your friend told you not to do, the absolute biggest no-no when it came to these types of college guys, you let Leon get even closer. It was just dinner in the beginning, but you started seeing him outside of study sessions afterwards with him going out of his way to seek you out and hang out with you and you the same. âJust going out to dinnerâ turned into dates real fast, faster than you even had time to process.Â
Youâve almost completely forgotten about just how nasty he was towards you not three months prior with how he doted on you. Leading up to finals week, Leon made sure to bring you food after noticing your long study habits. He wouldnât even give you a choice, just a simple âwhaddya feeling tonight?â over text. Heâd hang out in your dorm with you while you ate, much to your roommates dismay, and sometimes heâd just show up for no reason other than to see you. Youâd blush and shy away from his flirting, heâd tease you, and youâd get mad at him for distracting you in a playful way. Even if you wanted to be actually mad at him, you couldnât, not with that cheeky little grin heâd give you.
You never questioned his nosiness as he familiarized himself with your dorm, rummaging through your drawers as you whined at him from the bed to stay out of your stuff. Honestly, youâd probably look through his stuff too if you had the chance.
Having a boyfriend during your first year of college wasnât exactly a goal, and you donât know if this is even a relationship or not, but you werenât complaining. It was so nice having someone care about you like this, especially when itâs someone whoâs, to you, way out of your league in almost every sense. Though he wasnât the most outgoing, he was very well known, and being seen with him meant the attention he received was spilling onto you. Hell, you didnât even know he played football until he passed by you with his friends, all in their football get-ups. He never bragged about any practices or games to you, maybe you shouldâve asked about the various bruises and scuffs heâd show up to the study sessions with. Oh well.
Every night during finals week, Leon would take you out for dinner under the guise of âdestressing from the long dayâ, not that you minded, of course. You were growing increasingly anxious about your last final, the big one; math. The two of you were sitting in his black Jeep Wrangler as it idled out in the parking lot of McDonaldâs, snacking on what was left of your meal in a comfortable silence. The combination of the heater blowing on you and the food in your stomach was settling you, if only a little.
Leon kept his eyes on you the entire time, hand rubbing soothingly up and down your thigh. His hand was so warm. âYouâll pass, I know you will.â His soft touch barely had you cracking a smile, looking through the windshield as large snowflakes quietly fell, lit up by the streetlights surrounding the parking lot and by the headlights on his car. The snow had accumulated an inch on the ground already, the sun having set nearly two hours prior. Winter and its short days, a blessing and a curse. âI donât know..â You could feel his eyes on you, yet yours were stuck staring out at the falling snow. âMy nerves always get me. Iâm gonna make the stupidest mistakes and then once the final grades are in my parentsâll wanna see and then Iâll be surrounded be disappointment and shame and guilt.â
You closed your eyes and slumped your shoulders when you felt Leon squeeze your thigh, finally able to turn and look back at him. âYou know thatâs not how itâs gonna go.â He let out a breathy laugh when you raised an eyebrow. âOh come on, youâve got it down! Plus, you had an amazing tutor~..â
With a dramatic groan, you rolled your eyes as he wiggled his eyebrows at you, unable to hide your smile. âI guess, but you werenât that amazing..â
Leon moved his free hand and brought it up to his chest, holding it there with a strong pout to feign hurt. âYou wound me.. Was I nothing to you?â His smile quickly returned when you clicked your tongue at him, chuckling through his nose. âSeriously though, Iâve never met anyone as smart as you are. You learned how to do that kind of stuff incredibly fast, so I donât have a single doubt in my mind that you wonât demolish that final.â His compliments always left you blushing and at a loss for words, playfulness giving way to a more heavy air. âThank you, Leon. Really, thank you...âÂ
You were too wrapped up in watching the snow fall through the windshield to notice when his hand pulled away from your thigh, or just how guilty he looked as he silently watched you.
The math final was easier than you were expecting. You understood basically everything that had been put on it minus a couple things that you scolded yourself for not brushing up on last minute. Grades werenât put in until a week or more after the finals were turned in, yet you were confident enough in how it went to feel good leaving that room afterwards.Â
This first semester had really tested your limits, but you were lucky to have your friends, lucky to have Leon. It didnât feel strange having him around anymore, it felt natural, real. There werenât enough ways to thank him for all that he did between tutoring you and taking care of you overall.Â
You yelped with laughter as Sky picked you up, their arms around your midriff, waving you side to side as they yelled how proud they were of you. Ella only stood by and laughed along, making sure to take a picture of the moment as keepsakes. âGuys, I donât even know if I passed yet!â You pushed away from Sky and they placed you back down on the ground, smoothing out your shirt which had you swatting their hands away.
âBut! You survived and thatâs always cause for celebration.â Ella pocketed her phone and took a couple steps forward so you were all standing in a small circle now. âYou really pulled through these last few months.â
Thanks to Leon. âI did, huh?â You looked down with a bashful smile, shrugging before pulling the strap on your backpack further up so it wouldnât slip off your shoulder. âYou know,â Sky started, resting their elbow on your other shoulder while pursing their lips as they slowly turned their head to look at you, âyouâre not very good at hiding your love for Leon..âÂ
You werenât trying to hide it, it's just that even the vaguest thought about the man had you flustered and stumbling over your words like a fool. All you could do now was glare at your friend, who just raised their hands up in defense. âHey now, not poking fun, just making an observation.â
Ella placed her entire hand over Skyâs face and pushed them away from you, ignoring their muffled complaints as she looked at you. âWeâll always be suspicious because weâre your friends and we care about you, but as long as youâre careful, weâll keep our distance.â
Sky pulled Ellaâs hand off their face, making gross-out noises while wiping their face off. âBlegh, anyways, yeah. Keeping our distance, but still watching from afar.â They pointed their index and middle finger from their eyes to yours before smiling.
You hung around in their dorm as Ella finished packing up her suitcase. Sheâs had her plane ticket back home booked for a month, constantly expressing her need to leave as soon as finals were finished during that time. Sky was leaving the same day you were, which was in two days since you both drove or were driven here. Leon stayed at his frat house all school year, so you were thankful to have two people sticking around so you werenât left all alone.
Unfortunately, this meant you had your own packing to do. Thankfully though, your roommate had already left, sparing you from their menial chit-chat. Packing was almost cathartic in a weird way, almost as if you saw going home as a reward for working yourself to the bone at this university. Quiet music was playing from your phone as you gathered the essentials, youâd be coming back in three weeks so there wasnât any need to pack up everything.
A gentle knock knock knock at your dormâs door startled you from your thoughts, causing you to blink a few times to make sure it wasnât just coming from the song that was playing. Slowly, you made your way over to the door, and before youâd even opened it fully, Leon slipped his way through, side stepping into the room with a cheeky smile.Â
You scoffed as you watched him weasel his way in, hand stuttering away from the door handle to allow the heavy door to shut. âYou couldâve waited until I opened the door all the way.âÂ
âI knocked, though.â Mischief was evident in his tone as his eyes landed on the suitcase sitting on your bed. âGetting ready to leave?â
âNot for another couple days. Just.. wanna be ready.â You walked past him over to your suitcase, continuing to fold the last few pieces of clothing you wanted to bring back home. âPerfect, got some extra time to spend with you then.â Leon chuckled, now standing next to you to watch you get back into rhythm.
Having him admit that so casually had you nervous, cheeks heating up as you glanced over at him. âWouldnât you rather hang out with your friends?â The eyebrow raise he gave you made you stumble as you tried to elaborate. âN-not that I donât want to hang out with you! I just feel like youâd have more fun celebrating the end of the semester outside of a stuffy dorm.â You tried to laugh away the embarrassment, moving your focus back to the suitcase as you zipped it up.
âI can celebrate with those slobs any time, but for right now, I would really like to be around you.â Leon carefully lifted your suitcase off the bed, placing it near the door for you. âYouâre nice and quiet. Theyâre not.â You sighed after lifting yourself up onto your bed, sitting criss-cross right in the middle while meekly smiling to yourself, watching him walk back over to stand in front of you.
âBy the way,â he said, turning his head to look out your window for a split second before looking back down at you, âI havenât had the chance to tell you how proud I am of you for coming out of that math final. I know results take awhile, but you seem pretty pleased with yourself.â He crossed his arms and bent forward a bit with a teasing smirk as he not-so-subtly looked you up and down.
You covered your face with your hands and laughed into them, a poor attempt to hide your ever increasing blush. After letting your hands fall away, you bunched the end of your hoodie up in them, fiddling with the thick fabric as you replied. âYeah, uh.. I think I did alright.â You were going to say more, but you stopped when Leonâs hand found its way under your chin, tilting your head back so you were looking at him. âCâmon, donât downplay this, baby. You did amazing and you know it.â
Your mind went blank at the pet name and you were finding it hard to breathe with the way his hand felt under your chin. The air in your dorm was a tad tense before, yet now it just felt heavy. Stifling. All you could do was stare up at him with wide eyes, eyebrows furrowed ever so slightly as you tried to think of something, anything to say.
âDid I catch you off guard?â He said with a breathy laugh, gently tilting your head side to side as he studied you. And you let him. Your mouth felt dry, face hot as he leaned in closer. âYouâre so beautiful..â His voice dropped an octave and his eyes were lidded as they stared into yours. âSo smart, so brave..â Soon his lips were brushing against yours, whispering out a final âSo perfect..â before pulling you into a gentle kiss.
It didnât take long for you to relax into the kiss, eyes fluttering shut as you tried to mimic Leonâs movements. His hands cautiously slid down to grasp at your waist while yours moved up to cup his face, pulling him closer. He slowly crawled onto the bed with you tugging him along, leaving you laying down as he hovered over the top of you, knees planted on either side of your legs while one of his arms moved up to support himself.Â
He was doing his best to be careful with you, noting your nervous tremble as his right hand slid under your hoodie. âMâgonna take care of you, âkay?â He hummed against your sensitive skin, kissing along the underside of your jawline. You only nodded as his lips trailed down your neck, stopping when your hoodie got in his way of the rest of you. âNeed you to say âokayâ fâme, baby.â
Nearly whining when he stopped, you nodded again a bit more vigorously this time, voice barely a whisper. âO-..Okay..â You propped yourself up slightly when Leon pulled his head away from your neck, his eyes meeting yours as both his hands were now playing with the end of your hoodie. âY-Yeah, okayâŚâ You repeated.
First it was your hoodie, then it was his jacket, and before you knew it, he had you in his arms, chest pressed against yours as he reached around to unclasp the hooks on your bra. You immediately brought your arms up to cover your breasts once Leon leaned back after pulling your bra off, self-consciousness suddenly settling in. âHey hey, no need to hide from me..â He cooed, eyes raking down your body as he grabbed your hands to pull your arms away, thumbs rubbing circles onto the tops of your hands as he stared with a crooked smile.Â
You took the opportunity to take in his form; muscular, a couple old scars and freckles standing out to you. He was gorgeous, through and through, no doubt about it. He took notice, craning his neck to look down at his exposed chest before looking back up at you. âLooks good, huh?â That got a small giggle out of you, at least.
He slowly guided you back down onto the bed, his hands firmly rubbing up and down your sides. âYou look even better, though. Layinâ pretty beneath me~..â His right hand found its way to your panties, running his fingers along the band before trailing further down to press his middle finger against the gusset. You gasped at the feeling while he laughed quietly, leaning back a bit further to catch a glimpse of the wet spot he was feeling. âYouâre soaked.. Lilâ bit of touching got you all worked up?â
Your hands flew up to hide your face again as he rubbed his finger up and down your clothed pussy, letting out small gasps and whimpers all the while. You shakily nodded, subconsciously spreading your legs further apart as he slotted himself between them.Â
âTell me something, babe.â Leon paused his movements to look up at you, huffing a chuckle through his nose when he noticed youâd covered your face. âYou seem real nervous, so Iâm jusâ wonderinâ...â Dread settled in your stomach at his implication, you were hoping he wouldnât ask this. âYes..â You whispered, parting your fingers over your right eye so you could look at him. âDonât make me say it, pleaseâŚâ
He hummed low in his chest, eyes darkening as they moved back down to your panties. âJuuust wonderin', is all..â His finger started to caress you over your panties again while adding a bit more pressure. âThereâs no shame in being a virgin. Only means I gotta make this extra special for you~.â You moved your hands to shoot him a weak glare and he smiled in return. âDidnât say I couldnât say it.â
Once he felt your tremble start to dissipate, he brought his hands up and hooked his fingers on the band of your panties before slowly tugging them off, letting out a low groan as a string of slick stayed connected to the gusset from your leaking pussy. âFuck, thatâs hot..â He breathed in sharply through his teeth, taking your panties into one hand before grabbing his hoodie, stuffing them into the large pocket in the front.
Leon didnât waste any time putting himself back between your legs, languidly dragging his middle finger up and down through your folds. He relished in your every noise, even as you tried to hold them in. âYou ever finger yourself before?â He asked, voice gravelly as he repeatedly pulled his finger back to watch your slick cling to it by a string.Â
â... no..â Your innocence had him groaning to himself again. He could ignore the guilt eating away at him long enough to handle you the way you needed to be handled. âLetâs give it a try then, yeah?â He hunched over some more so his face was hovering above yours, middle finger now gently circling your clenching hole.
âP-Please be careful..â You whimpered, slightly panicked at the feeling of his finger nudging your entrance, one of your hands grasping the bed sheets while the other held onto his bicep that was closest to you. âIâll be so careful, baby.. I promise Iâll be careful.â
And he was. What wouldâve normally been a relatively quick process turned into ten minutes of Leon tenderly stretching you on his fingers. He studied your face the entire time, whispering sweet words into your ear, even letting out deep moans to encourage your own timid ones. You needed the time. There's no rush.
He moved down to pair his fingers with his mouth, tongue running through your wet folds as his fingers stroked your walls. The noises you let out when he sucked on your clit were intoxicating. You were intoxicating.
Once Leon pulled his mouth and fingers away from you, you knew what was coming. And when he paused for a moment after standing up, hands hooked in his boxers, eyebrows tightly furrowed together in thought, that only served to make you more nervous.
â..Leon?â You managed to say, propping yourself up on your elbows as you watched his shake himself out of his head. âYeah, sorry, just⌠thinking about the best way to go about this. Donât wanna scare you.â
âYou-... Iâm not gonna be scared..â You looked from his face down to his boxers, eyeballing where his fingers were still hooked in them. He just clicked his tongue, nodding his head to the side with a soft âif you say soâ.Â
As much as you didnât want to admit it, you were scared. There wasnât much frame of reference, but Leon was⌠sizeable, for lack of a better term. And it wasnât just his size that was intimidating to you, it was the idea of sex itself. Sex has always been made out to be this big grandiose milestone by everyone around you, so now that youâre about to actually do it is giving you the same sinking feeling that public speaking does.Â
âYouâre scared.â Leon had pulled his boxers all the way down without you noticing, letting them lay abandoned on the floor as he took the small step back towards you. âNo.â You were quick to object, eyes still glued to his dick. He chuckled and tilted your head back by your chin once more. âYes, you are, and itâs okay. Iâm not gonna kill you with it.â
âYou mightâŚâ You muttered under your breath, eyes lowly making their way back down to his dick as he got back up onto the bed and in between your legs. âI promised you Iâd be careful, right?â Leon grunted, his hand squeezing the base of his cock before giving it a few slow strokes.Â
You swallowed dryly, pulling your eyes away and back up to meet his. âYeahâŚâ He nodded, giving you a wobbly smile as he teased his thumb across his tip. âRight. So donât worry, Iâve gotcha..â
You only nodded, doing your best to keep your eyes up and focused on his face as he lubed himself with your juices. Your eyes widened once you felt him line himself up with your hole, body jerking a bit at the slight pressure.
âYou gotta relax, sweetheart..â He used his freehand to stroke your thigh before pulling your right up over his shoulder, hand moving back down so his thumb could rub your clit. âJust breathe and focus on what my handâs doinâ, alright?â
The two of you were lucky that a lot the people in your dorm building left already, cause when his tip finally pushed past that ring of muscle, you let out an embarrassingly loud yelp. It hurt, but it was also such a new feeling that it simply startled you. âOkay, okay, thatâs the hardest part. You did it.â You panted, hands tugging at the blankets beneath you as he stilled. âOkayâŚâ You copied him, nodding your head once you felt you were ready for him to move.
The sting of the stretch was the hardest to get by, however it was easily masked by just how full you felt after Leon was fully sheathed inside you. So new, yet so good.Â
You let out a shaky sigh, eyes closing as you rested back against the bed. Your heart was beating and your body felt hot. It was actually a nice feeling. âYou- ugh.. You can move.. a little..â You breathed out, grunting softly when you felt him twitch.
âMhm..â Leon agreed with only a hum, not trusting his mouth enough to speak. He pulled back an inch before thrusting just as slowly, eyes darting around your face for any sign of discomfort. A minute or so of taking it slow led to deeper thrusts, following your command as you asked for âharderâ, âdeeperâ, âfasterâ. All with that sweet voice that he couldnât say no to.
You were eating away at him and you didnât even know it; wrapped around him so perfectly, that delicious honey of yours dripping down his balls, moaning his name, looking at him with those glassy eyes, fuck. He fits you so well.
He kept his eyes closed, unable to look at you any longer. Ignoring the guilt was harder than he thought, even with him thrusting into you like he owned you. You werenât his, he can't have you the way you want him to-
âShit-!â He gasped, too lost in his own thoughts to notice youâd grown close until you abruptly clenched around him, sloppy cunt milking his cock. His thrusts stuttered to a stop as he buried himself deep into you, cumming with a whine of his own. Looking at the wall with bleary eyes, he furrowed his brow again, chewing on the inside of his cheek while he caught his breath.
Clarity crashed into him when you wrapped your arms around his neck, pulling him down into a weak hug. He needed to go, but how could he leave you like this? God, he was so fucked.
He shouldâve just stayed an asshole, that wouldâve kept you far away. And he shouldâve never taken that stupid bet. All this for a pair of panties to wave around like a trophy.
Next chapter
You usually slept all through the night when your boyfriend was home, the comfort of his presence behind you gave you the constant reminder that you arenât alone anymore usually helped you sleep better, but recently you couldn't shake the feeling of doom that settled deep in your gut.
So you sat awake with the t.v. on low hoping that the soap opera playing would lull you to sleep, but you were the furthest from it and really wanted popcorn but you knew Jason would wake up if you were gone too long.
âI'll just be quickâ you thought to yourself before carefully removing his arm from around your waist and tiptoed out of the room, closing the door so that if you made too much noise it wouldnât wake him.
You walked to the kitchen rummaging through the cabinets in search of the popcorn, until you saw a glimpse of it on the third shelf, âJason you assâ you muttered to yourself, climbing onto the counter reaching for it.
Your fingertips barely brushed the box before you found yourself pausing when you heard one of the floorboards creak, immediately you tensed from instinct.
Looking over to the bedroom you saw that the door was still closed so it couldnât have been from your boyfriend.
You slowly climbed down off of the counter and bent down below the counters, opening up one of the lower cabinets you reached in feeling the top for the gun you had hidden before your boyfriend moved in, silently cursing to yourself when you realized it wasnât there.
You looked around for another efficient weapon and your eyes landed on the rack of knives Jason insisted on buying for the kitchen. You grabbed the one that Jason had just sharpened the day before and began moving towards the sound.
It was as if the person youâd tried to bury for three years was seeping back out through the cracks. Your breath was even and your heart was beating steady. You knew whoever was in your home would regret even laying eyes on it when it was all said and done.
Your trained ears picked up the hushed whispers coming from the living room, you long ago memorized every nook and cranny of the apartment, down to which parts of the floors creaked and avoided them easily.
You peeked into the room and saw two tall figures one towering over the other immediately you knew who they were.
You placed your knife on the floor before you swiftly ran towards the shorter one wrapping your legs around his neck before twisting your body, causing his body to flip over and landing on his face. âTold yaâ he groaned.
You stood up placing your hands on your hips and let a sly grin take form on your face âHiya Deanâ you said, then looked over to Sam who held an impressed expression. âI see you haven't lost your touchâ he teased, moving to help Dean up.
âOver my dead bodyâ You said, moving to flick on the lights and motioning for them to have a seat.
You sat on the couch in front of them crossing your legs out of habit from your job âso what's with the family reunion?â You asked, looking between the two of them.
Both Dean and Sam glanced at each other having a silent conversation that you completely understood. âOur parents are missing. They were on a hunting tripâ Dean started. âAnd?â You questioned urging him to get on with the story.
âAnd that was about a month ago, havenât heard from âem sinceâ he continued. You eyed him âokay, well what were they huntingâ you asked leaning forward.
Dean pulled out an article from his jacket pocket placing it on the coffee table â they were checking out this two lane blacktop just outside of Jericho California. Around the time they left this guy-â he pointed to the picture of a young guy âthey found his car, but he vanished. Completely MIAâ
You skimmed over the article before glancing back up at the brothers âso what was he kidnapped?â You questioned, finally Sam spoke up, âthatâs what i thought too but check this out, there was one in April, another one in â04, â03, â98, â92â he said as he handed you more articles of missing men. âTen of them over the past twenty yearsâ Dean said. âAll men, all the same five mile stretch of roadâ.
âi'm guessing it got worseâ you said and Dean nodded âso they went to dig around, I havenât heard from them since. Then I got this voicemail yesterday.â He says as he pulls out a tape recorder before pressing play. The audio was scratchy and breaking up but you could make out Johnâs voice almost perfectly.
âDean...something big is starting to happen...I need to try and figure out what's going on. It may... Be very careful, Dean. We're all in danger.â
âYou check it for EVP?â You asked, Dean gave you a grin telling you that he had ânot too bad sweetheartâ Dean shakes his head before âI slowed it down, ran it through a gold wave, took out the hiss and this is what i gotâ he said pressing play again
ââŚ. I can never go homeâ
Dean sets down the cassette tape and they both look at you expectantly. You sighed rolling your eyes, knowing your answer before they even ask âonce a hunter always a goddamn hunterâ you thought, rolling your eyes. âSo what do you think?â Sam asks, eyebrows pinched together as if he was trying to read you.
You looked back towards the bedroom, surprised your boyfriend hadnât come out in search of you even through all the ruckus âitâs just one hunt. Right?â You thought. âI think⌠we got ourselves a hunt boysâ
At that a smile slipped on both boys faces and Dean let out a loud âwhoop' causing you to let out a laugh before pausing, âjust this one. I have a⌠life hereâ you explained, and just as quickly as it came it was gone, well for Dean at least. âWha-â he was cut off by the bedroom door creeping open and out walked Jason, his hair was messy from sleep but he looked confused at the two men you were so comfortable sitting with in the living room.
âThe hell,â Dean muttered as he stood up. Before anyone could do or say anything you stood up âuh Jason this is Dean and Sam. I grew up with them.â You explained as Jason got closer a look of realization set on his face âuh nice to meet youâ he said as he stepped to give the brothers a handshake, Dean eyed him but surprisingly shook his hand, and then he moved to Sam who gave you an unreadable look as he shook Jasonâs hand.
You then decided to break the silence, looking at Jason âuh i need to talk to youâ you said, he looked between you and the boys confused âsure okayâ he said with a slow nod.
You glanced at Sam and Dean, giving them a look that meant âbeat itâ. Sam immediately picked up on it and cleared his throat âweâll wait in the carâ he said, stepping past Dean. Dean gave your boyfriend one last look as he followed Sam.
Once the boys were gone Jason gave you an expectant look, you sighed trying to think of the best way to tell him about the situation.
Youâd never talked about your life before leaving hunting, especially not to your clueless boyfriend, no matter how annoyed it made him that you knew more about him than he did you. âI'm going on a trip with them, just a⌠family thing.â You began.
Jason scoffed âso you just decide at what-â he paused to check his watch âfour in the morning to go on a family trip?â He asked, tilting his head.
You slowly nodded her head âyeah, just family stuffâ you shrugged, Jason rolled his eyes at you âbabe the most Iâve ever heard about your family were their names. You don't visit them during holidays, or birthdays. To be completely honest I thought they didnât exist.â He said rubbing a hand through his hair.
You scoffed, taken aback by his comment, walking away from him and going to your shared room to pack. âWhere are you going?â He called, following after.
âTo pack my stuff, so I can go on a roadtrip with my âimaginaryâ familyâ you sarcastically remarked, grabbing your old hunting bag and subtly placing the box full of your old hunting gear in it before moving to pack some clothes.
Jason sighed âlook babe, I didnât mean it like that. All i'm saying is it's a little weird they show up randomly at four in the morning and demand a road tripâ he defended himself.
You threw her head back in irritation. Not at him but more so that youâd been born into such an odd, unexplainable family life, âcan you at least tell me where you're goingâ he asked defeated.
You put your head down, clenching your eyes shut hoping that this moment would end already, âmy mother is missing.â You stiffly admitted.
Jason let out a scoff, when you looked at him he looked about ready to lose his mind because youâd lost yours. âYour mother is missing and instead of calling the cops you go on a road trip?â He asked, not really being able to believe what he was hearing.
You paused âyou wanted to know my family? Hereâs a glance into my world.â You said, zipping up the duffel bag. Looking at Jason you could see the confused and helpless look on his face, sighing as you walked towards him and pressing a kiss to his lips, before pulling away, brushing the stubble on his chin with your thumb âi'll only be gone three days tops, âkay? Then when i get back you can ask me anything and i'll do my best to answerâ you promised
Jason looked like he was studying your face for the last time âokayâ he said, you nodded leaning in to give him one last kiss before you departed âill see you soon, i lo-â you cut yourself off before you could even start.
Jason nodded again, giving your hips a squeeze and pressing a long kiss to your forehead, before you backed away.
Sometime after getting in the car your body finally allowed you to sleep, maybe it was the sound of babyâs engine lulling you to sleep like it used to all those years ago, or maybe it was the sense that nothing would hurt you while youâre with Sam and Dean and that allowed the feeling in your gut to settle.
When you woke up, the sun was up and the car was no longer moving. Sam was sitting half way out of the front seat looking at the box of cassette tapes Dean inherited from john. âWhereâs Dean?â You asked, catching Samâs attention.
He gestured to the old looking gas station. You took in the surroundings and grimaced âcharmingâ you muttered to herself as you got out of the car, to stretch your legs.
You were finally able to take a good look at Sam and suddenly a wave of nostalgia hit you like a truck.
Though heâd gotten taller and more lean since the last time you saw him, you felt like that nineteen year old girl on the road with her boyfriend and best friend, and a sense of longing filled you quickly seeping into her chest, but you shut it down before you could dwell too much on it.
You had a new life now, better, safer, and a boyfriend you couldnât wait to get back home and see. Though you werenât excited for the âghosts, goblins, and vampires are realâ talk.
You moved towards Sam and leaned over him to peek into the box to see the same old cassette tapes he had when you left. Not one more or less.
âHe seriously needs new music,â you joked, pulling out a cassette labeled âAC/DCâ. âTell me about it,â Sam laughed, causing you to smile. âHeyâ Dean called from behind the car, catching you and Samâs attention. He held up some snacks he bought while in the gas station. âWant breakfast?â He asked
âNo thanksâ Sam said, returning his attention back to the tapes. Dean then looked to you questioningly âim fine, but i will take thatâ you pointed to the drink in his hand. He tossed it to you and you caught it effortlessly. âSo howâd you pay for that stuff? You and dad still running credit card scams?â Sam asked. You snorted âyouâre surprised?â
âYeah well hunting ainât exactly a pro-ball careerâ Dean replied as he put the gas pump back where it belongs. âBesides all we do is apply, not our fault they send us the cardsâ. You raised your eyebrows in agreement âcan't exactly argue with thatâ you said, getting back into the car. âYeah, and what name did you write on the application this time?â Sam re-adjusted himself in the seat before closing the door.
Dean paused before he got in the car âuh Bert afframnian, and his son hector. Scored two cards out of the deal.â Dean smiled proudly. Sam laughed âsounds about rightâ he said. âI swear man, you gotta update your cassette tape collectionâ Sam said, causing Dean to frown âwhy?â He asked.
âWell for one there cassette tapesâ you interjected putting your head in between theirs, Sam began to pick up singular cassettes and list the names âand two, Black Sabbath, motor head, metallicaâ Sam finished as Dean snatched the tape from his hand looking very offended.
âItâs the greatest hits of mullet rock, Dean thereâs a whole world of music youâve left undiscovered. Youâd love Avril Lavigneâ you teased causing Sam to laugh. Dean placed the cassette in the player âhouse rules Sammy, driver picks the music, shotgun shuts his cake hole, and you stay in the back seatâ he said pushing your head back so you were sitting correctly before starting the car.
Sam rolled his eyes at his brother âSammy is a chubby twelve year old, it's Samâ he tried to correct. You laughed âgood luck trying to make that stick sammyâ you said before Dean turned up the music. âSorry I can't hear you, the musicâs too loud,â Dean said before pulling off. The sound of the engine giving her another wave of nostalgia, maybe you had missed this more than you let yourself believe.
âOkay thanksâ you said before closing your phone, âso thereâs nobody at the morgue matching mom or johnâs description, so thatâs a startâ you tell the boys. Sam nods at the information while Dean pulls off to the side of the road, his attention set on the bridge just ahead crossed off with yellow tape.
âCheck it outâ he said before opening the glove box and pulling out another box filled with fake ids, he smirked at you and Sam before getting out of the car âlet's goâ. You and Sam looked at each other with worry, both of your carriers were on the line if you got caught, you tilted your head âwe have toâ you said, before following Dean out the car, Sam not too far behind.
You, Sam and Dean walked onto the crime scene taking in every piece of information you could. âIâm guessing thatâs the sheriffâ, you pointed to a man looking over the bridge before moving to talk to another officer who looked to be dusting for fingerprints inside the car.
âNo sign of struggle, no footprints, fingerprints spotless, itâs almost too cleanâ the officer said to the sheriff. The man sighed at the information âso this kid Troy, heâs dating your daughter isnât he? Howâs Amy doing?â The sheriff asked the officer.
âSheâs putting up missing posters downtownâ he answered. Dean walked toward them interrupting their conversation âyou fellas had one like this last month didnât you?â He spoke loudly, catching the sheriff's attention. âAnd who are you?â He asked, causing Dean to flash his fake badge âfederal marshalsâ Dean answered.
The man did a once over at the three of them, none of them looking a say over 20 âyou three are a little young for Marshallâs arenât you?â You and Sam smirked at each other while Dean laughed âthanks thatâs awfully kind of youâ he said before moving on quickly âyou did have another one just like this correct?â He asked. The sheriff nodded âyeah thatâs right, about a mile down the road. Thereâve been others before that.â He said.
You walked over to the car leaning down to get a closer inspection âdo you mind if i uhâŚâ you asked, gesturing to the car, the sheriff nodded âgo ahead, but thereâs nothing there. We swept it from top to bottomâ he said. You smiled âIâm sure, I just want to get a good look myselfâ you said. You began to inspect the car making sure not to touch anything or leave any kind of DNA just in case.
Sam and Dean continued questioning the sheriff while you inspected the car, and so far you came up with nothing. The carâs clean, eerily so. Maybe some small part of you began to believe that whatever was here took your parents, that maybe they didnât skip town to lead their kids on a manhunt for them, but then again they were too stubborn to die by the hands of something as little as a pissed off spirit.
Dean walked over beside you âanything?â He whispered, you shook your head ânothing, almost like he was never even hereâ you told him, standing up. âSo what's the theory?â Sam asked, walking over to where you and Dean stood. The man shrugged âHonestly? We donât know, serial murder, kidnapping ringâ the sheriff answered.
âThat is exactly the kind of crack police work I'd expect out of you guys-â Dean was cut off by Sam stomping on his foot. Your eyes widened but you covered it with a smile âplease excuse us, we're done hereâ you said, pushing Sam and Dean to walk past the confused man âthank you for your timeâ Sam said giving a quick smile.
Sam walked ahead of you and Dean and she could tell he was irritated just by the way he was walking. Dean looked back to see if any of the police were looking before he slapped the back of Samâs head. âOw!â Sam whispered with clenched teeth.
You rolled your eyes at their antics, not in the mood for their arguing, you walked ahead of the both of them, somehow being the only one to catch the three men walking towards the three of you.
Two of whom were real FBI agents, you paused your walking backtracking a few steps and turned to both Sam and Dean who had his back toward you, you caught Samâs eye over Dean's shoulder and gestured to the men behind her. Sam cleared his throat trying to send the message to his brother. Dean turned just as the men reached them.
âCan I help you kids?â The local officer's demeanor was a lot more authoritative than the others. You gave the men a charming smile âoh no sir, we just wanted to know what happened, we were just leavingâ you said, not dropping the innocent act.
You led the brothers away from the bridge and back to the car, shaking your head the whole way.
When they all got back in the car you spoke âi say we go talk to that Amy girlâ
Downtown
You, Sam and Dean walked downtown in search of Amy for about five minutes until all of your eyes landed on a girl putting up âmissingâ posters. âI bet you thatâs herâ Dean said, you and Sam agreed.
The three of you walked up to the girl âyou must be Amyâ Dean said, the girl nodded as she taped up a poster. You stepped in front of Dean âyeah Troy told us about you, Iâm y/n, this is Dean and Sammy were his aunt and unclesâ, Amy eyed you weirdly, Sam and Dean could pass but you not so much.
Dean mustâve noticed because he nudged you toward Samâs side and you caught on pretty quickly, wrapping your arm around him.
You couldnât see Samâs face but you were sure it was something along the lines of shock, then a look from you to Dean then quickly covering it with a tight lipped smile as he stiffly tugged you in closer.
Amy mustâve accepted the facade as she returned to putting up the posters âhe never mentioned you to meâ she said before turning to walk. The three of you followed and you and Sam let Dean take the lead in talking âyeah well thatâs Troy i guess, weâre not around much weâre up in Modestoâ he lied.
Sam broke away from you making you frown a bit, watching him move in front of Amy bringing her walk to a halt. âSo weâre looking for him too and were kind of asking around-â Sam was cut off by another girl stopping next to Amy asking her if she was okay, you assumed she was her friend.
âDo you mind if we ask you a couple questions?â You asked to which Amy agreed.
Amy and her friend led the three of you to a cafe, it was dark inside no thanks to the lack of sunshine outside, you sat between Dean and Sam whilst the two teenage girls sat on the other side.
Amy began telling you about the last time she and Troy spoke âI was on the phone with Troy. He was driving home. He said he would call me right back, and...he never did.â She said.
Sam leaned forward, more intrigued. âHe didn't say anything strange, or out of the ordinary?â He asked. Amy shook her head, a frown painted on her face âno. Nothing I can rememberâ she said.
You glanced down at Amyâs necklace. It was a pentagram âi like your necklaceâ you complemented. Amy glanced down at the necklace and smiled âthanks, Roy gave it to me. Mostly to scare my parents with all that devil stuff.â She laughed at the memory.
Sam huffed out a laugh beside you âActually, it means just the opposite. A pentagram is protection against evil. Really powerful. I mean, if you believe in that kind of thing.â, you raised your brows not expecting Sam to go full on encyclopedia. âOkay. Thank you, Unsolved Mysteries.â Dean said earning a bitch face from Sam
Dean took his arm off the back of the seat and leaned forward. âHere's the deal, ladies. The way Troy disappeared, something's not right. So if you've heard anythingâ Dean trailed off noticing the look Amy and Rachel give to each other âWhat is it?â You ask, tilting your head slightly.
âWell, it's just... I mean, with all these guys going missing, people talk.â Rachel started âWhat do they talk about?â The brothers say in unison, creeping you out just a little bit âIt's kind of this local legend. This one girl? She got murdered on Centennial, like decades ago.â Rachel continues to explain.
Dean gives you and Sam a look you returned with a glance while Sam continues to listen to Rachelâs story âWell, supposedly she's still out there. She hitchhikes, and whoever picks her up? Well, they disappear forever.â
Sam and Dean looked at each other. âWe got a lead,â you muttered under your breath to the brothers.
You sat in a chair to the side watching as Dean typed on the computer, coming up with nothing every time he pressed enter. Sam tried to take over the computer âlet me try.â He said, but Dean smacked Samâs hand away, âI got it,â he grumbled.
Sam sighed, pushing Dean's chair out of the way and scooted his closer, âdude!â Dean says hitting Samâs shoulder, though the younger Winchester didnât even spare him a glance âyouâre such a control freakâ Deans says and he scoots closer.
You smiled at their bickering, you didnât miss the blow out fights you all used to have but you did miss the moments like these that you found yourself thinking about often causing a comforting feeling to spread in your chest.
âSo angry spirits are born out of violent death, right?â Sam asks.
âRightâ you confirmed, scooting closer to get a better look at the computer. âWell maybe itâs not murderâ he says replacing âmurderâ with âsuicideâ in the search bar then pressing enter, an article popped up titled âsuicide on Centennialâ.
âI think he's got you beat Dean-oâ you sarcastically remarked, earning a glare from Dean.
Sam opened the article dated back to April 25, 1981. âThis was 1981. Constance Welch, twenty-four years old, jumps off Sylvania Bridge, drowns in the river.â Sam reads, Dean leaned forward âdoes it say why she did it?â He asked.
âYeahâ you answered, âwhat?â âSays an hour before they found her, she called 911. Apparently her two little kids are in the bathtub. She leaves them alone for a minute, and when she comes back, they aren't breathing. Both die.ââ You read, sympathy settled in your gut for the woman.
Sam continued reading ââOur babies were gone, and Constance just couldn't bear it,' said husband Joseph Welch." Sam says as he scrolled, a picture of the bridge you were at before showed itself on the screen âthat bridge looks familiar to you?â Dean says.
SYLVANIA BRIDGE
By nightfall you, Sam, and Dean were back walking down the bridge, you all stopped to look over the railing down into the rushing river, âso this is where Constance took the swan diveâ Deans said, before continuing on walking.
You and Sam followed âso you think they wouldâve been here?â Sam asks Dean, Dean looks back at the two of you âwell heâs chasing the same story and we're chasing himâ Deans answered.
You sighed, continuing your walk. âOkay, so now what?â You and Sam simultaneously ask. You could tell Dean was purposefully not looking back at you and Sam âNow we keep digging until we find him. Might take a while.â Dean answered slowly.
You and Sam stop, glancing at each other before looking at Dean. Sam sighs âDean, I told you, I've gotta get back by Monday-â Dean cuts Sam off as he turns around âMonday. Right. The interviewâ he says, cutting a glance at you.
You shrugged, while you didnât have any important plans like Sam, you still had to get home to Jason âi gotta get home Deanâ you said.
âYou're really serious about this, aren't you? You think you're just going to become a Lawyer? Marry your girl?â Dean asks, and something struck your heart, the thought of your first love marrying someone else, you pushed it away. âMaybe, why not?â Sam answered.
Dean looked at you âyou gonna marry that guy hmm? Knowing he can't protect you? Being normal while knowing the truth about the things that come out at night?â He asked, stepping towards you.
You shrugged, getting irritated. âIf that's what happens, yeah Dean, why is that so bad?â You questioned, you thought when you left Dean was happy for you, supportive at least but you could see now it was a facade.
âDo they even know the truth, i mean do they know about the things youâve done?â Dean asks. Sam steps forward â no and sheâs not ever going to knowâ âthatâs not gonna happenâ both you and Sam said at the same time.
Dean paused, raising his eyebrows âWell, that's healthy. You can pretend all you want. But sooner or later you're going to have to face up to who you really are.â Dean said as he turned and kept walking.
You sighed, knowing that Dean was just upset. He wanted things to go back to how they were with you, your mom, Sam, John and him. He wanted his family back and you couldnât fault him for it.
But the way he was going about it wasnât the right way. Sam however feeds into it âand whoâs that?â He asks. âYou're one of us.â Dean answers, making Sam rush to get in front of Dean.
âNo. I'm not like you. This is not going to be my life.â Sam finalized, Dean rolled his eyes âYou have a responsibility to-â Sam cut Dean off âTo our parents? And their crusade? If it weren't for pictures I wouldn't even know what Mom looks like.â He said before pointing to you, âsheâs been on the receiving end of y/m/nâs anger about y/f/nâs death her whole lifeâ he continued, your chest tightened a little at his words, youâd never admitted it to anyone other than Sam when you were barley thirteen.
âAnd what difference would it make? Even if we do find the thing that killed her, theyâre gone. And they arenât coming back.âhe finished. Dean grabbed Sam by his collar and shoved him up against the railing of the bridge, making you step forward âhey! Calm downâ you shouted, Dean ignored you.
âDonât ever talk about her like thatâDean warned before releasing Sam from his grip and continuing on his walk. Sam looked at you seeing your expression ây/n i-â you cut him off âdonât, just donât.â
You walked past him, it wasnât what he said about your father that upset you, youâd accepted it a long time ago, but him telling Dean something you admitted to him after he found you crying, hit a nerve.
When you looked ahead your heart skipped a beat, not far ahead of you was Dean, but what caught your eye was the woman in the white dress standing on the ledge of the bridge.
âSam.â Dean called, not taking his eyes off the woman, Sam moved to stand next to Dean and the tree of you watched the woman look at you before stepping off the ledge, you immediately sprint towards where she was, but when you got there she was gone âwhereâd she go?â Sam asked, âI don't know,â you said looking down at the river for the second time that night.
The sound of the impala starting immediately caught you and the brotherâs attention, the headlights shined bright and the engine revved loudly. âShitâ you muttered. âWhoâs driving your car?â Sam asks. Dean pulled the keys out of his pocket and you glance at them and roll your eyes âgreatâ.
As soon as the words slipped past your lips the car began speeding towards the three of you, you didnât waste any time taking off in a sprint, Sam and Dean werenât far behind you and you could hear one of them yelling âgo go runâ.
They caught up to you fairly quickly thanks to their long legs, Sam grabbed your wrist pulling you with him as he jumped over the railing after Dean. Luckily he hadnât let go because your foot slipped off of the side leaving you dangling over the river, holding on to nothing but Sam.
âDonât let me go!â You shouted over the loud rushing of water below you. âItâs okay i got youâ Sam said, pulling you back up, and this time you were careful with your footing.
You let out a breath âthanksâ you huffed, Sam smiled âno problemâ. His smile warms your heart and you fight the blush threatening to show on your cheeks. You looked back over the railing to see baby parked as if nothing happened.
Looking around you couldnât spot Dean anywhere âwhereâs Dean?â You asked Sam. The both of you looked over the ledge, shouting Dean's name. After two calls you saw something crawl out of the water covered in mud âwhat!â It shouted.
It was Dean, âare you okay?â You shouted, Dean put up an OK sign with his hand âIâm superâ he said. You and Sam smiled glancing at each other before climbing back over the railing.
Not long after Dean closed the hood of the impala âcar alright?â Sam asked. âYeah whatever she did to it, seems alright now. That Constance chick, what a bitch!â Dean shouted into the distance.
You came up beside him âwell she doesnât want us digging around thatâs for sureâ Sam said, and you hummed in agreement âSo where's the job go from here, genius?â You asked Dean who just flicked the mud off of his hands in response.
Just then the wind blew and your nose caught the smell wafting from Dean making you cringe. You saw Sam making the same face before looking at Dean âyou smell like a toiletâ he said, you smiled, holding your laughter at the look on Dean's face.
âOne room pleaseâ Dean said, dropping the card on the guest registry list, the old man at the front desk picked up the card eyeing Dean's muddy attire, before looking at you then Sam.
âYou guys having a reunion or something?â The clerk asked, your brows furrowed in confusion. âWhat do you mean?â Sam asked, speaking your mind. I had another guy, Burt Aframian came in with his wife. He came and bought out a room for the whole month.â The man said. Dean turned and gave you and Sam a look.
You stood beside Dean completely blocking the view of anyone looking while Sam picked the lock to the room your mother and John stayed in. The door creaked open and you followed Sammy into the room.
You looked around in shock and Sam yanked Dean into the room and closed the door. âWoahâ was all Sam could muster up. The room was a mess as if they just vanished, a suitcase thrown over the bed, food wrappers were still on the nightstand.
And papers were still thumb tacked to the wall. You stepped over the ring of salt and further into the room not paying any attention to Dean sniffing the day's old burger. You moved to pick through the discarded suitcase that was unmistakably your mothers, not listening to the conversation Sam and Dean were having.
Your heart sped up feeling as if you were about to commit a crime when you opened the suitcase, you wouldâve never heard the end of it if your mother ever caught you going through her personal belongings.
Her clothes were inside neatly stored in rows of shirts, pants and whatever else, however nothing couldâve prepared you when you pulled a knife out of the bottom. The blade was covered by a white sheath.
You pulled the knife out of the sheath to take a look at the blade. It was long about the size of a ruler, and the brand new white leather on the handle made your breath hitch.
It looked exactly the same as your mothers, the one your father had gifted her the day of your birth, you turned the knife to look at the bottom and your initials and a date was engraved in a small font. âHey Sam?â You called, catching him and Dean's attention. âYeah?â He said moving towards you.
âWhatâs todayâs date?â You asked. Samâs eyebrows furrowed in confusion but still pulled his phone out to check âitâs November second, why?â. You turned to face the brothers showing them the knife.
Dean opened his mouth to speak âis that-â âno, it looks like hers but it has my initials and todayâs date. What does that mean?â You asked. Sam and Dean looked at each other unsure themselves.
You excused yourself from the motel so you could call Jason and update him a bit, the phone rang a few times before Jasonâs cheery voice greeted you âHey Jason here, I couldnât come to the phone. Leave a message and Iâll get back to you when I canâ. Voicemail.
You started to feel that feeling settle in your stomach again. So you called again, and again voicemail. Every time. âSon of a bitchâ you said tilting your head back. After a few more tries and still no luck you re-entered the room again.
Sam looked up at you from one of the two beds in the room. He turned off his phone, he mustâve been calling Jessica and had just about the same amount of luck as you.
You plopped down on the other bed letting out a breath, you and Sam sat in a comfortable silence until you broke it. âHowâs college life treating you?â You asked, looking at him. Sam looked back at you from his seated position and smiled, âitâs great, yeah. Normalâ he said.
You smiled, âI bet, can't imagine Sam Winchester at a college partyâ you laughed at the thought, Sam laughed along with you shaking his head âyeah no itâs not really my sceneâ he said. You smiled, âso, what have you been up to since you left hunting?â Sam asked you. You paused, huffing out a laugh i uh- Iâve been looking to join the FBI. Behavioral analyses specifically.â You admitted.
Samâs eyebrows shot up in surprise, âThe FBI? Y/n thatâs great! I mean what-â Sam cut himself off with a scoff.
You smiled âyeah i know i uh got into Yale, not long after i left and majored in criminal justice and psychology. Got through it pretty fast, thanks to hunting I mean it was pretty easy to grasp.â You shrugged.
âY/n this is big! Does anybody know-â Sam was cut off by Dean swinging the bathroom door open âknow what?â He asked, grabbing his jacket off of the coat rack. âUh nothingâ you said before Sam could say anything.
Sam picked up on your hesitance and sent Dean a tight lipped smile. He looked between the two of you weirdly before shrugging it off. âAnyway, I'm starving. I'm gonna go grab something to eat at that diner down the streetâ Dean said âwant anything?â He asked.
âNo thanksâ ânoâ you and Sam said. âYou sure? Aframianâs buyingâ he said, both you and Sam declined again. Dean shrugged and stepped out of the door.
When the door closed you turned back to Sam âI havenât told anyone. Just you.â you said, Sam looked at you with understanding. âWell maybe weâll work together on a case,â he said with a smile. âYou bet law boyâ.
After the conversation ended, Sam began to fill you in on the woman in white legends that you missed earlier, but he wasnât able to get very far in because your phone began to ring.
You picked it up hoping itâd be Jason, it wasnât it was Dean. You sighed, answering âyeah?â You answered.
âDude, five-oh take off.â You whipped your head to Sam âwhat about youâ you asked standing up âthey kinda spotted me. Go find our parentsâ he says then he hangs up.
âWe gotta go, cops. Theyâve got Dean alreadyâ you said. Sam moves to look out of the window but quickly backs away when he sees the cop start towards the room.
After you and Sam escaped you both split up, Sam went to speak to Constanceâs husband and you went to figure out a way to get Dean out of the hole. Which wasnât too hard, all you had to do was shoot a few rounds and then call it in, waiting for the cops to leave and let Dean do his part.
While you were waiting Sam called you âgot anything?â You asked, âso the husband was unfaithful. We are dealing with a woman in white. And she's buried behind her old house.â He said.
You looked at your surroundings, you werenât far from the old Welch house âokay, how bout i meet you there?â You suggested, eyeing the small blue car you were passing. âWait, what about Dean?â He asked
you smirked âDeans fine, trust meâ. Sam nodded, though you couldnât see âand uh, how do you plan to get there?â He asked, and just as he finished his question he heard a car alarm go off, he scoffed with a smile âyou're stealing a car?â He said.
You shrugged âwhat can i say Sammy, old habits die hardâ. Sam rolled his eyes âokay meet you thereâ
While you were driving your phone rang again, the id wasnât one you knew but you answered none the less. âHello?â You said.
âSamâs in troubleâ Dean's voice rang out. Your eyebrows furrowed âwhat how?â You asked, speeding the car up a little. âNo time to explain, just get to the Welch houseâ he said before hanging up. âDamn it Samâ you said driving way past speeding limits.
When you arrived you started to hear gunshots, telling you that either of them beat you there. You stopped the car seeing Dean holding his shotgun, shooting at Constanceâs spirit with a⌠salt round?
You shook off your confusion before getting out of the car and running towards him. But before you reached them the impala took off and crashed into the side of the house. Suddenly the voice rang through your head âI can never go homeâ you almost laughed to yourself. He took her home.
Hurriedly you ran towards the passenger side beside Dean. âSam! Sam, you okay?â Dean asked, Sam groaned, causing relief to spread through you âI think..â Sam said.
âCan you move?â You asked. Sam nodded his head âyeah, can you help meâ he asked, and Dean helped Sam out of the car.
When Sam was out of the car you noticed Constance holding a frame, most likely of her family, until she looked up at the tree of you and dropped the frame, stepping out of the way and pushing you guys against the car with the dresser.
You groaned when the dresser hit your hips and it was for sure to leave a bruise, even with you and the boys combined strength you couldnât move the dresser.
Constance stepped towards you with malice in her eyes, but stopped when the lights started flickering. You looked around in confusion at her confusion.
Then water began flowing down the stairs and you saw shadows of two small children at the top. âYouâve come home to us mommyâ the children said, sending goosebumps down your spine.
Suddenly the children were behind Constance, she turned and looked at the children who embraced her in a hug causing her to scream, soon enough all three spirits were reduced to a puddle on the floor.
The hold on the dresser disappeared and you guys were able to push the dresser off of you. You walked over to the puddle with Sam and Dean in tow â So this is where she drowned her kids.â Dean said.
You and Sam nodded âthatâs why she could never go home, she was too scared to face themâ Sam replied.
You frowned âitâs tragic what heartbreak can do to someoneâ you said. There was a silence before Dean slapped Samâs chest âyou found her weak spot. Nice work Sammyâ Dean complemented proudly. Sam winced at the impact but shrugged it off with a laugh.
âYeah, I wish I could say the Same to you. What were you thinking shooting Casper in the face, you freak?â Sam joked âHey. Saved your ass.â Dean replied, moving to look at the car. âI'll tell you another thing. If you screwed up my car?â Dean turned around to look at Sam. âI'll kill you.â He pointed. You and Sam looked at each other with huge grins
And just like that you were back on the road headed home. Sam in the passenger seat held a flashlight so he could see the map âokay, hereâs where they went. Itâs called black Water Ridge, Coloradoâ Sam said.
You leaned forward looking over his shoulder âhow far?â You asked. Sam glanced back at you before looking at the map âabout six hundred milesâ he answered. You hummed, sitting back in your seat.
Dean nodded along to the music âHey, if we shag ass we could make it by morning.â He said. You and Sam paused glancing at each other. âDean-â you started but was cut off by Dean âyouâre not comingâ he said nodding. âThe interview's in like, ten hours. I gotta be there.â Sam says, Dean looks back at you through the rear view mirror.
âI have a job Dean⌠and Jasonâs expecting me-â Dean cut you off âyeah whatever, Iâll take you homeâ he said, you could hear the disappointment in his tone. You sighed
laying your head against the headrest.
When you got to Sam's apartment you waited for him and Dean to say their goodbyes before you got out of the car calling his name.Â
He turned around and you wrapped your arms around him. He hugged you back with a laugh, âit was good seeing you sammyâ you said, pulling away. He nodded âyeah, you too⌠see you at work?â he asked.Â
You smiled, nodding âsee you at workâ you confirmed. Before getting back in the car, the front seat this time. Before pulling off, Dean looked at you with a smirk causing you to roll your eyes. âKnock it off Winchester,â you joked.
 Dean laughed before pulling off. You weren't able to get very far before your stomach began burning like molten hot lava in your organs.Â
You whimpered, holding your stomach in pain. The sound caught the older Winchester's attention as he began shaking you and saying something you couldn't make out.Â
But what you could make out were the flashing images in your head. Blood and fire. It was everywhere like a massacre.Â
When the images went away the pain faded slightly and you were finally able to say âDean, go back, we have to go back.â the look in your eyes must've scared him because he didn't waste any time swerving the car around.
When you got back to sams apartment it was already on fire and before the vehicle was stopped you were out ant running towards it
Dean wasnât far behind you and it didnât take any time for you to reach his apartment, Dean kicked down the door and you both ran in. Sam was on his bed staring up at the ceiling in shock shouting Jess's name.
As much as you wished you could save the girl she was already gone so you and Dean dragged Sam out of the apartment, it wasnât an easy fight given Samâs height and strength but you did it nonetheless.
However getting Sam out didnât stop the burning feeling in your stomach, the ambulance arrived on the scene officially announcing Jessica dead, and you saw the emotion drain from Samâs face, it was as if a switch flipped inside of him, he walked off leaving you with Dean.
You looked at the older Winchester with teary eyes âDean you have to take me home. Please.â You begged. Dean looked at you with sorrow as if he already knew. You both knew what it meant but you wouldnât believe it. No you wouldnât accept it. He saw the inner turmoil in your eyes and nodded âokay, letâs go.â He said, wrapping an arm around your shoulder.
He led you back to the car where Sam had been putting a shotgun together with tears in his eyes. He looked at you then Dean, before shaking his head, throwing the gun back into the trunk. âWe got work to doâ
On the drive Dean quietly filled Sam in on what happened with you, though you werenât too sure he was listening. You werenât listening either, you were busy calling Jasonâs phone over and over and over.
Every time the call went to voicemail the burning sensation got worse. When Dean parked outside of your apartment building you wasted no time getting out.
You heard both of their doors open as well and Dean called your name. You turned around to look at him, eyeâs nothing but teary. âYou want us to come with?â He asked. You looked between him and Sam, who looked like he couldnât handle much more tonight.
You shook your head not trusting your voice enough to speak. Dean nodded âweâll be right here if you need usâ he said. You nodded, before turning around and continuing your walk.
The whole way to your apartment you held your new knife in your hand, when you reached your door you paused, not sure if you really wanted to enter, however you pushed the feeling down and opened the door.
Immediately the smell of blood hit you, the metallic smell seemed so strong it almost gave you a headache. Tears began to freely fall down your face when you saw the puddle of blood leaking from the other side of the kitchen counter.
Carefully you stepped over the pool of blood and walked further in, thatâs when you saw him. He was on the floor, his face bruised and neck slashed.
Your heart shattered, and you began to hyperventilate as you dropped to your knees, not caring anymore about his blood staining your clothes.
You placed a soft hand on his face, it was still warm and your tears dripped onto his cheeks âplease, Jason please im sorry. Iâm sorry I shouldnât have left. I could've protected you. I'm so sorryâ you sobbed.
The longer you looked at him the more it hurt. You began to shiver from the feeling of your clothes soaked with his blood and the heartbreak that was crushing your chest.
But you didnât care âno, no, no, this wasnât supposed to happen to you.â You laid your head against his chest, hoping to hear a heartbeat.
But it was silent. Your sobs filled the air around you, until you heard footsteps enter the apartment.
You picked up the previously discarded knife with shaky unstable hands ready to fight whoever, but it was just Sam and Dean.
You saw Dean first, he stopped in shock and Sam wasnât far behind. They took in the scene, your bruised bleeding boyfriend, and your completely broken state.
You seemed to be covered in his blood which made it worse. Neither of the brothers knew what to say or do and Sam looked on the verge of crying again too.
Dean moved to pick you up out of the bloody mess until he saw bloody writing on the wall âyou were too lateâ.
Sam saw what his brother was looking at,and you turned to see. The bloody letters dripped down the wall as if it was still fresh.
Dean shook his head, picking you up from the ground. You hardly made any effort to fight him off and Dean thanked God for it because even though you were now a grown woman, he still saw you as that little girl he always protected. And you need that now more than ever.
Chapter 1 - New Arrivals
The first time you met Joel, he stank like shit. Literally, he smelled like he had rolled in it. You issued him soap, and sent him on his way. That was a loss to Jacksonâs ledgers you were more than willing to take.
The second time, he smelled better. Unremarkable mostly, more of a neutral scent tinged with man smell around the edges. Nothing to write home about. Still, you issued him deodorant. Couldnât take any chances.
He requested bullets, a basic first aid kit, and warm clothing. With Mariaâs approval, you made the relevant deductions and issued the items at hand. You even sprung for wool socks. With a winter like this, he could use all the help he could get.
âYouâre headed south, right?â you asked him as he packed a worn duffel bag.
âColorado,â he replied. You waited, but thatâs all he gave you. Guess he didnât feel like elaborating.
âWhat about the girl, she need anything?â
He considered the offer, then asked, âYou got any pens, pencils or anything? Notebooks? She likes to keep track of things, take notes. Draw, mostly,â he trailed off, scrubbing a hand over his face, âAnd weâre almost out of paper.â
You smiled at that. A girl after your own heart . âIâll see what I can scrounge up.â
* * *
You asked Tommy about him, once the two of them were gone. He didnât have much to say.
âBarely talked to the girl. Probably know about as much about her as you do. Joel⌠Well, Joelâs an enigma.â
You rolled your eyes at that. âCome on, Tommy. Iâm asking for the basics, not his social security number.â
Tommy sighed. âHeâs brash, heâs protective, heâs opinionated⌠I donât know what much else to tell you. Heâs just Joel. One of those people you gotta get to know just by knowing âem, I guess.â
You blinked twice. âSupremely helpful, Tommy.â
* * *
The next time you met Joel, he smelled better but looked worse. You only half-remembered his eyes, but something in them last time had been warmer. The ones you saw now were⌠dead, almost. Like something within them had been destroyed. Whether heâd been the one to do the destroying or it had been done to him remained to be seen.
Youâd seen him and the girl with Tommy and Maria in the dining hall that first time theyâd come to town, wolfing down chili like theyâd just discovered, well, chili. They ate slower now, both of them, not like they werenât in a rush but like their heads were elsewhere. The girl seemed to stare into nowhereânot all the time, but it was distinct when she did it.
Joel didnât zone out. No, if anything he was zoned in . On that poor girl who had been so full of life just months ago, now hollowed out like far too many others. Youâd see about filling her back up later. But for now, he was the one that perplexed you. Why was he so focused on her? What had happened out there? Part of you never wanted to find out, but part of you really, really did.
Regardless, she needed new shoes. So you joined them. The man stopped mid-chew, looking up at you with trepidation.
âHi,â you smiled, âglad you two made it back in one piece.â
âMe too,â he replied, turning his attention back to his cud. You couldnât tell if that was supposed to be a joke or not. You turned your attention to the girl.
âYouâre Ellie, right? Iâm Doe. Or thatâs what most folks around here call me, anyway.â
âDoe?â She cocked an eyebrow. âLike a deer?â
âA female deer,â you winked back at her. She stared at you blankly.Â
âItâs a song,â Joel muttered to her softly, âfrom before.â
âOh,â Ellie nodded. The silence dragged, but thankfully you came prepared.
âCobbler?â you offered bowls to each of them. It was fresh from the oven, still steaming and smelling of cinnamon.
âYes, please!â Ellie yanked the bigger bowl towards herself, broccoli forgotten. She got a few bites in before Joel intervened, pulling the sugar aside and reinstating the vegetables. The girl frowned at that, but his pointed look said not to bother arguing. So she didnât.
âDonât worry, itâll still be hot in a minute.â You tucked into your own cobbler, savoring the warm sweetness as it glided across your tongue. Even in Jackson, it was a delicacy. But it was spring, and the cherries were here. And youâd accounted for everything.
âDid you want something?â Joel asked, finishing his own plate and reaching for the cobbler.
âEllie needs new shoes.â
âWeâve got it handled,â he said.
âDo you, though? You havenât got much to trade with, and weâve got plenty in inventory. Thatâs kind of what itâs there for. Why suffer blisters when communismâs got your back?â
âCan I?â Ellieâs face lit up. You liked seeing her eyes like that: brighter. They belonged that way.
Joel swallowed his cobbler, mulling over the idea. âAfter lunch,â he agreed, nodding to the eager teen. âFinish your cobbler first.â
* * *
Ellieâs new light-up sneakers lit the way as you exited the storeroom through your office. Joel had insisted on a sensible pair as well, but you couldnât deny the kid a little whimsy.
âMaria give you your patrol schedule yet?â you asked him, nodding to the well-worn chalkboard in the corner. Routes on the left, days and times up top. Names filled in the boxes in between, a testament to your logistical wizardry.
âNot yet,â he said, crossing to examine it. âGuess she doesnât need to, now.â
âIâve got you paired up with Tommy. Seemed easiest, to get you started. Youâll be headed up to the lodge, itâs a pretty standard route. Get the occasional runner, but itâs wildlife more than anything.â
He nodded, heading toward where Ellie was already scampering out the door.
âSee you Tuesday, I suppose. Guessing youâre the one to check-in with?â he asked.
You smiled at his correct assumption.Â
âSure am.â
* * *
You didnât know Joel well enough to make assumptions about his punctuality, but Tommy was never late. Even you were late from time to time, often getting swept up in tasks and losing track of things. But the man was annoyingly punctual. According to Maria, thatâs part of why she fell for him.
Tommy was late today.
You crossed to the large observation window lining one wall of your office. It gave you a clear view of the front gates and surrounding guard stations, but there was no sign of Tommy anywhere. Or Joel, for that matter.
A knock on your door interrupted your analysis. It was Eugene. The grizzled old man acted anything but, a smile breaking out across his face at the sight of you.
âHey, Doe! Howâs things?â He asked.
âFine. Iâm looking for Tommy, actuallyââ
âDidnât you hear?â He interrupted, âMariaâs gone into labor. Heâs with her at the clinic.â
Your stomach dropped. Here you were preparing to chew Tommy out for his tardiness when the whole time heâd been busy becoming a father. A very valid excuse.
âAnd Joel?â you asked. âThey were supposed to patrol together this afternoon, lodge route.â
âNot sure. He wasnât with them. Listen, I gotta go grab the baby blanket I made and drop it off, but you and I need to have a drink one of these days. I worry your hairâs gonna start falling out in clumps if you donât take a break eventually.â
âYeah, but then what would you do, patrol out to the dam with Jesse? Thereâs a reason I donât pair you two up anymore.â
âBecause you donât like blackberries?â he chided.
You frowned, âNo, because you spent so long harvesting them your 8 hour patrol took 12. I was this close to sending out a search party. A little planning prevents a lot of headaches, Eugene.â
He turned to leave, looking back over his shoulder to get the last word. âYou know what else is good for headaches? Whiskey.â
You sent Eugene on his way with instructions to give Maria your best. Youâd visit her when the baby was here. For now, you had a community to protect.Â
With Tommy out of commission and Joel MIA, youâd have to find someone else to help you cover this patrol route. Dina was always a solid partner, if she was around. Devon the bartender could generally be counted on to have your back. Eugene would be ideal, but you didnât want to make him work a double.
You headed to the stables to see who you could find. Upon entering, the warmth of the building and company of the animals soothed your unease, if only slightly.Â
You found your horseâs stall, the gray spotted mare whinnying at your arrival.
âHey, Bailey,â you smiled, offering her a slightly bruised apple. She took it gratefully, big brown eyes closing in enjoyment.
âSheâs beautiful,â a voice said from behind you, making you jump.
âSorry,â the voice stepped into the light, âItâs just me.â
âJoel,â you took a deep breath in an attempt to slow your racing heartbeat.
âSorry Iâm lateââÂ
You cut him off with a raised hand, looking him in the eye.Â
âYouâre not with your brother,â you finally said, more of a statement than a question.
âYouâre not with your best friend,â he replied, offering no further details.
You sighed, debating arguing with him about it before deciding the subject was better left untouched. You had your reasons for staying away from childbirth. If Joel had his own, he was entitled to that. You werenât going to press him on it, so long as he didnât press you.
âCome on,â you said, swinging your leg over Baileyâs back and settling into the saddle, âWeâre making up for lost time.â
Consent, autonomy, kids, and ourselves
Not gonna lie, it's going to get weird for the next few years. "Grab 'em by the pussy" will not only be locker room talk but the law of the land. It's time to prepare and protect our kids and ourselves.
But how?
Register your kids, ALL YOUR KIDS, and yourselves for an OWL class.
Our Whole Lives is a series of six comprehensive sexuality curricula for children, teenagers, young adults and adults published by the Unitarian Universalist Association and the United Church of Christ Justice and Witness Ministries.[1][2] Publication was the result of seven years of collaborative effort by the two faiths to prepare material which addresses sexuality throughout the lifespan in age-appropriate ways.
The Our Whole Lives program operates under the idea that well informed youth and young adults make better, healthier decisions about sexuality than those without complete information. OWL strives to be unbiased and teaches about heterosexual, bisexual, homosexual, and transgender sexual health. In addition to information on sex, OWL is intended to help children, youth, and adults to be emotionally healthy and responsible in terms of their sexuality.[3] (x)
TL;DR: OWL is a comprehensive, lifespan sexuality education curriculum that promotes healthy, informed, and inclusive attitudes about sexuality, relationships, and identity. Designed for various age groups, OWL emphasizes self-worth, sexual health, responsibility, and justice in a values-based framework.
Lifespan you say? So, you're teaching little kids about condoms and anal?
No, you eejit. Each curriculum approaches topics differently based on the age of participants. The K-1 curriculum, for example, looks at bodily autonomy, family, trusted adults, and that a sperm, egg, and uterus are required to make a baby.[6][7] The curriculum for older adults, on the other hand, might discuss aging, disability, dating as an older person, and body image.[7] (x)
But it's religious and I'm not.
Look- I'm a heathen, and proudly so. And I'm a trained OWL facilitator. This curriculum is designed to be offered with a liberal religious component or without. Find one that works for you. There's no proselytizing, no guilt, no judgement.
I have a ton of kids; how do I know which class is best for each one?
Each of the seven curricula speak to participants' needs, by age group: - grades K-1 - grades 4-6 - grades 7-9 - grades 10-12 - young adults - adults - older adults (x)
I don't want someone else teaching my kids sex ed. I'll be able to handle it when it comes.
OWL is designed to augment what you teach your kids. In fact, one of the things that each class starts with is an adult orientation that affirms parents and guardians as their children's primary sexuality educators.
I already know everything.
No. You don't. Trust.
I'm not in the USA. What is there for me and my family?
There are Unitarian Universalist organizations in Europe that may offer OWL. OWL has been offered in the Philippines. I don't know about elsewhere, but I'd be happy to help you find something if you're outside the US. If nothing else, you can download the Books and Media Recommendation list and start the discussion with your kids yourself.
I'm still unsure.
That's ok. Here's a short video that will give you an idea of how topics are presented, even to the little ones:
I'm not telling you how to raise your kids or how to act as your own grown-ass adult. I am suggesting that we're all going to need all the tools in our toolboxes to make it through the next few years and the rest of our lives. Here are some more for you to use.
Let me know if you have any questions. I want to help.
@steddiemas Day 2 - Winter Themed Sentence Starters
3. Did you know icicles make the perfect murder weapon?Â
pairing: pre-steddie | word count: 426 | rated: G
âDid you know icicles make the perfect murder weapon?â
Of course, like always, the fact comes unprompted. Eddie had been staring out the front window of Family Video all morning, even through the rush Steve and Robin had just gone through.Â
Itâs been a couple days since he and Eddie had officially decorated for Christmas, and the ice storm that swept through Hawkins the night before had pretty much leveled anyone but the Family Video staffâs attempts at going to work that day; so of course they all decided to come in and rent a movie or three for their unexpected day off.
âIs that what youâve been staring at all morning? The icicles?â Robin asks, unbelieving.
Leave it to Eddie to stare out at the frozen water hanging off their roof for hours on end. Steve sighs, âEddie, darling, love of my life, I cannot handle another one of your not-actually-that-fun fun facts right now.â
And, naturally, Eddie ignores him (though the blush on his cheeks at Steveâs blatant flirtingâflirting that the metalhead still hadnât done anything about by the way, why kiss him then not do anything more about it??âwas a nice addition to his face). âItâd be perfect, Steve! Theyâd never figure out what killed âem; The icicle would just melt away and boom! Youâre out one murder weapon and one set of guilty fingerprints.â
âThere wouldnât be fingerprints in the first place would there? I wouldn't want to hold something that cold with my bare hands, youâd have to wear gloves.â
âRobin, donât encourage hiââ
âYou wouldnât have as good a grip with gloves on.â
Steve drops his head to the counter in exasperation.
âYou think youâd have any better grip with bare hands??â
âWell yeah, your hands would do the same thing to the icicle that your tongue does to a metal pole, right? Theyâd just stick.â
âThen the police would have really good fingerprints since your skin would get ripped off when you try to leave the thing behind.â
âSo donât leave it behind. Take it with you and let it melt.â
âAs if you would get away without someone seeing you carting around a bloody icicleâŚâ
âWhy am I friends with you two again?â
âYou love us,â Robin waves him off and goes back into her conversation with Eddie about any possible ways they could test their theories.
Steve just laughs, shakes his head, and settles in for the next few hours of his life with two of the three dorks he cares about most in this world.
I've been rotting away in bed all weekend recovering from a cold and I made the mistake of rereading some parts of OFTM and I miss them so much đ how's our favorite famous duo doing? I can't stop thinking about reader having to defend/support joel for whatever reason, but it's with the vibe of this meme LMAO like that is HER man, how dare people say anything about him
J!!! I love this request!! Thank you for sending it in and Iâm sorry it took so long đŠˇ
Girls on Film
Pairing: rockstar!joel x actress!reader
Summary: this ask
Warnings: unedited because you canât make me, discussions of toxic behavior, language, Joel being a dilf, June once again not knowing how to properly end a fic, I think thatâs it??
Joel is protective of his kids. Sometimes, a little too much, in your opinion but you didnât marry him because he does things half-way. With each new addition to the family, his papa bear instincts grew and grew. And if youâre being completely honest, his protectiveness and love for his kids is part of the reason why you ended up with five kids to begin with.
When he was giving his interview to People during his Sexiest Man Alive shoot, he was asked what accomplishment of his heâs most proud of. Without missing a beat, he said, âmy family.â He went into what little detail you use to talk about the kids in a public setting, even getting a little misty-eyed in the process. The second the crew was out of your house, you nearly jumped his bones right then and there. You found out you were pregnant with the girls about two months later.
So, yeah, heâs a great dad, and itâs super hot. Whatever. Itâs universally known within your family that thereâs almost nothing he wouldnât do for his kids. He just loves them with everything he has and wants them to live full and happy lives. Which is fine until he bears his claws in public.
Following a particularly problematic documentary with some of todayâs biggest stars, Joel was more than ready to say what had been on his mind when an interviewer stopped him on a red carpet and asked, âare there any people in the music industry you wouldnât let your daughters date?â The daughters in question were never specified but itâs either between his married thirty-one year old, his lesbian (also married) twenty-eight year old, or his three year old twins. He wasnât comfortable thinking about any option.
âMy kids are free to date anyone they want, but we have a strict no assholes policy in our house.â He said and the interviewer raised her eyebrows. âLike I wouldnât let âem date any of those idiots from that documentary.â
âWhy do you say that?â The interviewer asked and Joel shrugged.
âMy kids deserve better than some fucker in black eyeliner claiminâ to save rock ân roll when all heâs doing is being a sexist pig who makes shitty music.â By the time his words reached your ears, it was too late to stop him. The clip from the interview was making the rounds before you can even get home.
Paul, his poor, poor manager of several years, reaches out to him the next morning to ask if he wants to make a statement, amends, anything to smooth this over. Joel curtly responds to his long email with a short, âno,â and that ends the conversation. Whatâs even worse if you canât even argue with him. Heâs right. Youâve seen first hand how people in the music industry treat each other and itâs awful. Why should he be the one who gets shit on because he spotlighted other peopleâs behavior?
You are able to dodge questions, paparazzi, and others wanting to know the inside scoop for weeks until you feel yourself getting just as frustrated as Joel was. Leave it to the press to want the wife to offer explanation for her husbandâs actions. It isnât until you get an offer from Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen that you agree to even think about saying anything.
That night, Joel stays home with the kids and watches you walk out on stage with Carolina in a long bell bottoms, platform wedges, and your (Joelâs) favorite vintage band shirt. You and Carolina hug Andy and get some initial questions answered but it doesnât take long before the subject turns to Joel.
âNow, I know everythingâs been very hush, hush but Joel started a lot of discourse online about the music industry. What can you tell us about what he said?â He asks and you nod, smiling and playing with your wedding ring.
âThatâs been like the question of the month, hasnât it?â You joke to break the ice. âLook, I think we all saw the same documentary. We all heard what those men said and to act like we didnât is, honestly, kind of ridiculous. Joel knows the industry better than I do and he knows that nothing is going to change unless you call out the people making it miserable for younger kids.â
âSo, you agree with what he said?â
âOne hundred percent. He was right that we have a no assholes policy for our kids but, other than that, we really donât have rules about their dating lives,â you say. âAnd I think he was right to call out those guys. Itâs not fair that they get protected by their little boys club and that just has to be the way things go. I think itâs bullshit.â
âYou seem to feel passionately about this.â Andy says and you nod.
âWell, itâs not just because people are coming after my husband. Itâs because weâve both seen what any toxic environment can do to people which is why he owns his own label now.â
âAnd itâs doing very well. He just signed one of the biggest breakout stars of the year, didnât he?â
âHe did. And you know why itâs doing so well?â You ask, leaning in like youâre about to tell him a secret. âBecause he doesnât sign assholes. He doesnât put his name next to theirs. He doesnât even want to be associated with them because for as much as itâs his name, itâs also my name and our kidsâ names. So, people can say whatever they want about what Joel said but I will support him and his mission and when his artists start winning Grammyâs and spots in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, we wonât even remember the names of the people who got fifteen minutes of fame and a shitty sound bite to show for themselves.â You say and somewhere in California, Joel nearly jumps out of his seat with excitement, praising you like youâre there with him.
The second you walk off stage, your phone lights up with Joelâs contact photo and you laugh as you answer it. âWill you marry me?â He asks before you can even say hello.
âIâm assuming you saw the show.â
âSaw it? Baby, I recorded it,â he says. âWhen are you cominâ home?â
âTomorrow. Youâre supposed to pick me up, remember?â You ask and he groans.
âYou ainât allowed to be that sexy on TV across the country.â
âKeep it your pants, cowboy. Iâll be home soon.â
âYes, maâam.â He sighs dejectedly like a ten-year-old.
When you get back to California the next day, the discourse has been put to rest and Joel is almost giddy when he watches you come down the escalator. The flowers in his hand get crushed when you hug him tight and let him kiss you like he hasnât seen you in years. âWhere are my children?â You ask when he finally pulls away and he smirks.
âWith Ryan. The kids wanted to have a play date.â
âSo, the house is empty?â
âAnd clean.â
âJoel Miller, will you marry me?â You echo his question from earlier and he laughs.
Then, like a perfect gentleman, he takes your suitcase, opens doors for you, and drive you home to properly fuck the shit out of you. (Authorâs note: I want to put <3 right here so mf bad but I wonât because Iâm a professional. PS old man rockstar!joel fucks severely. PPS itâs canon because I say so)
I've been thinking a lot about The Alchemy lately. One of the many, many things I love about Tay is how many different angles we can view songs from.
I have been toying with the idea that this song is about her preparing for her last beard with the ogre. miss ma'am loves to break records and she can do so with the heteronormative society and a big ol' distraction. there are a lot of meathead references in here too but just like So High School, i don't think it's positive or endearing.
this happens every few lifetimes
with so much death and rebirth in her work, I interpreted this as every bearding situation being a lifetime and now we're starting a new lifetime
these chemicals hit me like white wine
which chemicals? likely, the Forget Him medication from Fortnight MV. this can be the promise of success, this can be entering back into the closet; but essentially there had to have been an BIG incentive or push. and even moreso, it was something Tay really had to swallow but was not her choice--it was prescribed by the ward. and this "Forget Him drug" could bring forth Taylor Swift The Brand. Taylor Swift The Brand comes with a manic high, a hunger for success, a desire to push through whatever she needs to overcome. there's probably lots of spite in there too.
in addition, wine drunk is super different! wine brings a warm carelessness. personally, wine makes me feel like i'm a bad bitch and life isn't that serious.
what if i told you i'm back?
the hospital was a drag
worst sleep that i ever had
they let her out of the hospital, but only when she was medicated. she's "fixed"!
i circled you on the map
a TK reference because so many dummies said he put HER on the map (fucking as if). this is one of her little jabs at him saying, "nah, bro. i put YOU in the spotlight"
(note that these 4 lines feel like a conversation with someone that you're trying to prove something to)
i haven't come around in so long
but i'm coming back so strong
she hasn't had an in-your-face PR relationship for years. so this is her giving herself a little boost. i haven't done this in a while, but i can do this and i can do it even better than before. i feel this especially because it's right before the chorus where she goes:
so when i touch down
call the amateurs and cut 'em from the team
ditch the clowns, get the crown
another jab at her beards and at TK's sad attempts to get others to put him on the map. MH is an amateur, he did not lead Taylor to the success she was looking for. TK had no luck liking baddies instagram pictures to weasel his way into the industry. but who did that? Taylor Alison Swift: The Mastermind. note how she's focused on the crown, not the actual "muse"
Baby, I'm the one to beat
'Cause the sign on your heart
Said it's still reserved for me
i took this as a line to her fans. so many people tune in to the big headlines because we, as a society, have a weakness to be fascinated by/addicted to the drama. especially taylor swift drama! our hearts are still reserved for any juicy tea she might have
honestly, who are we to fight the alchemy?
this feels like an act of acceptance and a little defeat. don't forget, taylor is still on those chemicals that hit her like white wine. so she succumbs to the fact that the world's biggest pop star and an award-winning NFL player would definitely make for lots of success. this is why she came back, to come out on top. i've seen others comment on the fact that she uses alchemy instead of chemistry. (they have the same end rhyme and the same syllables so alchemy was very intentional.) they're making gold out of robust situations, they're not sharing energy with one another.
hey, you, what if i told you we're cool?
that child's play back in school
is forgiven under my rule
i haven't come around in so long
but i'm making a comeback to where i belong
this next verse reminds me of the structure of the first verse. the first 3 lines feel like a sense of defending actions to someone else while the last two feel like another act of self-perseverance and having to hype herself up.
he jokes that, "it's heroin, but this time with an 'e'"
i really can't see this as anything other than a jab at the meathead. those illiterate tweets of his surfaced and we all found out he really is an idiot.
this line does confuse the hell out of me otherwise. if anyone has any thoughts i would love to hear!
where's the trophy? he just comes runnin' over to me
i know a lot of people find this endearing saying he chose her over the trophy. but i think it's Taylor asking "where's the trophy?" with her eyes on the prize still. and the dummy loses sight of what they are actually after
she's "high" on those Forget Him drugs throughout this whole song because she finishes the song with the same two lines she opened with.
but, yet, here we are again: swiffers thinking she's being cutesy with some dude but in reality this is about her and her success.
this song all feels like work. i don't know if anyone else played the alchemist game where you start with the most basic materials and have to make all kinds of substances, eventually getting to gold. and, man, was it challenging. just like i can imagine it's challenging to make this dirtbag into a "glamorous gentleman."
anyway! this was way more in depth than i thought it was going to be but i hope this leads to more confidence to post more OC! thanks for the read <3
Getting ready for the Halloween next week.
Okay so.. I knew I said I was going to draw today.
I will still believe me.
But the main thing today was this thing.
Yeah the box. Had to ask an art store if they had some spare ones..
And they did. And even gave me one.
I swear If I didn't had a nose this thing would fit me perfectly.
So.. then I just got to painting the box.
That took me long enough because it's acrylic paint.. but at least i didn't had to do too much layers.
I decided to do tge buttons with additional cardboard and the screen was like lower.
...well you see how it is, sorry I don't have the right words to explain all that.
I just like.. only had three types of acrylic paint and even though the colours are a bit off it looks close enough for me.
And the buttons are too big I know but I still like how it all turned out.
I know I don't have the bandages on my hands I will put em on later when I'll go to the cosplay party this year at the anime store.
Also last year I had a "Fuck face" written directly on the badges on my forehead because I didn't even had a box and.. Time to do this all.
And the about the choice of the word I asked my friends what to write really.. I didn't want to go there again with "fuck face", so one of my friends said i should write the word "SWEETHEART" there.
The other person said i should write "GAY" but that way i would have to cosplay Pride Randy Jade..
And I mean I would love too but I don't have a pink denim or.. any pink outfits to be honest...
Also there's a close up of the badge that I will wear.
If you know from which job it is you know...
Also there's a first version of it.
But I decided that wasn't really right..
Anyways Im glad that I have a full cosplay now.
Bye!
Still have to go draw something-
#LySr art#dialtown#Dialtown Randy#Halloween cosplay#Cosplay#Honestly I wear this denim shirt like every day at work I'm pretty sure Randy cursed me#Haha jk..#The only minus of this head is that I don't see anything while wearing it.#But it will be fine.#I hope so...
