I think all Sims or visual novels (not just dating ones) should have like. Four dialoage options. Each with a unique personality and tone.

Like, one could be more sarcastic and dry, one happy go lucky "look on the bright side ™!", or just emotional in general, one purely logical, and one who just tries to make jokes or playfully flirt.

Player can choose any of these options at any time, they don't just have to stick to one. This could be tweeked whichever way would work the best, but yeah. My opinion.

In some interactive fictions I've played personality works like a stat, so if you're character is shy but acts more outgoing around an RO they'll comment on it, which I like, but just letting people choose at will would certainly be easier... lots to think on (╭ರ_•́)

This more or less what I've been working with as a general guide for myself???

I split how MC talks generally vs how they are with the specifically romantic choices. My handwriting is a bit messy here, but I know I want how the player interacts with the romance to be something I keep track of even if I let you bounce around between being pessimistic or optimistic. That way if you are playing someone who is repressing their feelings you get to choose who cracks first, you or your RO.

Jason “my family doesn’t know im alive” Todd and Danny “my family doesn’t know I’m dead” Fenton going alongside each of their plans my beloved. like Danny will absolutely go head-to-head with all of Gotham to support his new best friend on all his crime lord endeavors while he drags Jason to also attend collage with him. They are roommates and there never seems to a mention of family from either side. It’s an unspoken understanding they have. They met because Crime alley as a ghost lair thrummed with so much loneliness, it was at first the perfect place for Danny to hide his ecto signature in. But then he saw the dumbass whose lair it was lean his motorcycle just a tad too much when making a sharp turn to an alley, he sweeped the floor through a lifted chain link that passed his body but not his helmet. Yep that’s right the red thing got stuck. Danny who at the moment happened to be watching through his window snorted. Much to his horror because if not a ghost that dude could’ve gotten his head flung off.

Still, the scene was ridiculous.

On a whim he irrationally sees the police closing in on the guy and panicked at the thought of the guy using intangibility to free himself so Danny phased them both through his apartment wall and left the guy sprawled in his couch. Jason didn’t freak out but that’s normal when one’s got a concussion, one the guy immediately denied having as Danny laid out the medical supplies. The idiot proceeded to almost flatten four steps to the door with his stubbornness. He also said “I’m asexual” in the most deadpan voice as Danny dropped him back in the couch.

Danny sighed. Clearly though, he’d done so too early in the night because the guy kept trying to go, kept trying to knock Danny out, kept trying to slash him with knifes Danny didn’t know he had stashed. He’d only disarmed the guy from his guns. The visible ones apparently, cause at one point the guy did take out a gun and shoot until the ammo ran out and then teetered the thing like it was an art prop and hit his moon lamp.

Danny "yeah you aren’t officially my friend until you’ve tried to kill me" fenton my guys.

Anyways both keep having the same argument over if Danny technically kidnapped Jason or not. Danny holds the fact that the police at least didn’t see the guy make the ridicule. Jason argued that happened cause he was sporting a concussion. Danny argued he got that after.

Jason at first thinks the guy's a meta, but no. Danny introduces himself, sheepily now that he recognizes this is who the lair he invaded is from. He bandages him and tries to cook for him. If Danny didn’t have ice powers he most certainly would’ve burned the apartment. Jason then proceeds to kick him out of his own kitchen and make them both enchiladas. It’s the most normal both had in a while with another person and the air seems oddly settled. From then on, Jason constantly invited himself over, under the pretense that this was his territory and therefore he could drop in unannounced. Danny who has actual powers says he only allows this because Jason cooks very well.

Danny stays away from the crime fighting business unless his buddy is in deep shit he can’t get himself out. Also it’s Danny’s turn to cover for his vigilante friend which Sam and Tucker give him so much shit for. (but also advice)

And they were roommates. (omg) Danny effectively derails Jason’s big comeback plans by casually dropping ghost lore every two days. Like,

Jason, talking about how he doesn’t want Bats snooping on his territory:

Danny: Just don’t let them in

Jason: ??

Danny: yeah!! Hasn’t Batman died and got revived??? You can totally kick out death touched people you don’t want entering on your lair.

Anyways Jason is super excited. You mean to tell him he can actually deny people over to his territory haunt?? (Yes it’s only to people who have died and came back but still!! The sample size is exactly the type of people he doesn’t want to see—!)

(Jason’d feel a lot safer if the clown was dead but the possibility of his murderer turning into a ghost and their little loophole not applying on the clown is too scary to contemplate.)

Anyways, Jason loves experimenting with the power. It can go from simply making people shudder and not want to enter crime Alley to straight up not letting them enter like there’s an invisible wall blocking the way.

Jason because he’s hurt that Bruce never even patrols Crime Alley and also because he’s petty put B under the category of “invisible wall” blacklist. His reasoning is that the man doesn’t even attempt to enter Crime Alley. To him it’s surely just a place shadowed in tragedy. (anyways that’s it’s the place he met Jason)

Ironically, Jason totally forgets that Batman does venture into Crime Alley one day in the whole year. The day he met Jason.

Okay. He didn’t forget at first. The first year Jason remembers cause it was only a few months till then but then the next— Jason forgets that today’s the anniversary of the day’s Bruce’s parents died. He forgets to allow B in when he feels a slight tug and dismiss the feeling that prompts Bruce to investigate because he literally can’t enter Crime Alley. He starts the trialsTM, he scouts on the very edge and sees people the whole day enter and get out and cross with no problem but Bruce can’t.

It’s literally just Bruce.

Time to call Constantine, i guess.

I think this is one of my favorite lines from the Wraith route because of (imo) how much the meaning changes depending on if you got there via Spectre or Nightmare. For Spectre, it honestly strikes me as a genuine question. Why are you doing this to her? If you're on the Spectre route, you presumably already know the Narrator can't really be trusted, since you had to reject his reward to get here. What are you hoping to gain from continuing to hurt her? For Nightmare, it honestly just makes me sad. As the Shifting Mound describes her, "She desires only companionship, but the only thing she knows is how to hurt." This line feels like a plea from someone who genuinely doesn't understand why you keep rejecting her. She wants to be with you, but she just can't understand how to do that in a way which doesn't hurt you.

OKAY. here is my Memorandum on why i don’t like B💥ffy (please forgive the ridiculous censoring, i don’t want this to show up in the tags for people just minding their own business) or, more accurately, the attitudes surrounding it. this just a huge huge huge rant 6 years in the making, you’re free to reblog but i’m not trying to start any sort of drama or conflict because that’s dumb and we all have better uses of our time! and it really is not that serious. i just need to lay out my thoughts so i can neatly put them away.

so there are quite a few reasons why, and i think they boil down to:

just not what i go for in a ship

it’s not what i want out of either character

i personally can't see it working

i personally think it's largely carried by bandwagon appeal rather than any actual founded ""evidence"" (ship for ship's sake)

there is a huge, recurring problem of many shippers acting like they ARE an authority on these characters or their cartoons... when they aren't at all lol i don't know how to make it sound nicer but it's true

riding on this, just bad experiences with many shippers and seeing it as a recurring problem. i've noticed the people who like Bugs and Daffy to act like divas often act like divas themselves. weird superiority complex

have had way too many experiences with people putting Porky/Dafpork down in favor of B💥ffy instead of letting it coexist and that gets me a bit irked, especially when i've had multiple posts vaguely referring to me to do this when i have literally just been Sitting Here, even as recently as last month 🙃

SO. YEAH. i'll just go through these points, maybe add more to this or make another follow-up. i've let all of this stew for so many years that i kinda can't believe i have a chance to "relieve" it all, and my mind is blanking as a result...

but it's true, there is just the basic "i don't go for this ship dynamic". i don't! enemies to lovers is not my cup of tea. i love odd couple type dynamics (i wouldn't have this blog if i didn't), but any ships i've been passionate about in my time on the internet--very few tbh--have been rooted in at least some form of fondness for the other. and this is literally just my taste, i don't think i'm morally superior than anyone because i don't like enemies to lovers. and i realize the irony of saying this when so many shorts have Porky trying to kill Daffy, but there's still an established fondness that has been baked into their dynamic in the start, and even with those antagonistic shorts i wholly believe there is at least some form of one-sided fondness on Daffy's behalf. and sometimes it's double sided depending on what tricks he's pulling/Porky getting a bit into the act.

this is also leeching into some other points already, but.. Daffy's behavior towards Bugs has always registered as a fair-weather friend to me. the whole joke is that when he acts all friendly to him, it's because he wants something for his own personal gain. and i'm sure you can make a case for that with how Daffy acts around Porky, since heckling him is for his own personal satisfaction, too.. but there's a difference between him lambasting or not enjoying Bugs' company until the most convenient time to save his own skin. i'm also just largely bored by Bugs' boredom, he doesn't feed into it and respond in the same way Porky does. and i know that's a point of appeal for a lot of people, but not me--i don't go for the world weary Bugs. just like i don't go for Excessively Selfish And We're Meant To Largely Root Against Him Daffy. i'll probably rephrase this more eloquently at another time, my thoughts are fleeing me... but for that i just can't see it working. and i know that's exactly why some people ship them, it's like a surprise and turning the dynamic on its head.. and you have stuff like Daffy kissing him on the cheek for having an idea to save his skin or Bugs pulling a Daffy and kissing him on the forehead when Daffy is trying to kill him which i think is funny people love that screenshot/short so much, i mean i can't judge since how many of my Dafpork kiss screenshots are in a similar context? ...actually not many, but i've always hated that short for how out of character Daffy is in it even with his hatred for Bugs. Daffy should never be the one hunting!!!!!! the fuck!

but i just don't get anything out of it for that reason. i don't like the world weary Bugs, i don't like unlikable asshole fallguy Daffy, i get nothing putting those two together. just personal preference. i salute those who are able to make the chemistry work and enjoy it, but i just can't. this might also be because i just can't see Bugs being shipped with anyone, he doesn't register as the type to carry an actual relationship to me. i feel like he's way too independent of a character for that. maybe i'm projecting my potential aromanticism onto him! iunno! but Bugs and romance do not compute to me. especially with Daffy and vice versa, i just can't see them getting anything meaningful out of it. but i know there are shippers who have found that for them and i respect it! that's great. genuinely.

now we're delving into the spicier and pettier side of things, oh boy. but. yeah. i'll be completely honest and say i think this ship is completely driven by bandwagon appeal. i mean, a bandwagon has to exist for some reason, and i can see why it would be erected: the enemies to lover angle, the subversion, the heavy Bugs and Daffy-focused marketing of the last half-century. in spite of my feelings, it is a classic ship dynamic and i see why people go for it. but i feel like that's just so much of what it... is.... people genuinely don't know that there are other options and don't explore them. you see people talking about Bugs and Daffy and nothing else and so you just assume that's the default. this isn't helped by Porky having either been swept under the rug or treated AWFULLY, like if my only view of LT was through TLTS i probably wouldn't ship Dafpork either because what the actual fuck

but that's the thing. THAT'S THE THING. people take TLTS as gospel and act like they are so smart and Right and correct for their TLTS centric views. i've seen so much disdain for the originals and that pisses me off, genuinely. sweeping it under the rug because they're "old". you don't have to be a nut like me and have seen all 1,000 shorts. i am a glaring exception and not the rule. you don't have to have an encyclopedic knowlegde of these characters or shorts to enjoy them... but i've seen so many people act all high and mighty and like they know everything, when all they know is a very specific part of history--that's almost all founded by a game of telephone, because modern incarnations misrepresent the appeal and dynamics of these characters--and they pass it off as fact and talk down to people who don't like it. and it makes me want to scream. because if you want to play the know it all game, i will go there! and i will bring up more than just the 2 Chuck Jones shorts you ever so charitably decided to use as "evidence", in spite of showing no interest for any other shorts and garnering a greater context for these characters! AUGH SORRY IM BEING RIDICULOUSLY PETTY BUT IT'S LIKE. THE DOUBLE STANDARDS DRIVE ME INSANE. please do not talk down to me and act like you know everything because you don't. i don't either. but i most certainly can play the argument game if someone really wants to and i can do it for hours lmfao because i actually know these characters and watch them in different contexts and have an understanding of their motives and intentions, instead of looking at everything through a ship focused lens!

and that's the thing, too. i feel like so many shippers only look at the characters through a ship focused lens and not through a character centric lens. that's the difference with me. Dafpork is my favorite ship of all time and always will be. but the fact that i can shove them together like two Barbie dolls is just a happy bonus--i'm in it for the CHARACTERS first and foremost, and just the fact that they have this chemistry and ability to be smacked like Barbie dolls is a bonus. and so often i feel like so much of BFY or just , the LT fandom in general, is curated through vague stereotypes or expectations or fandom/ship-centric viewpoints instead of the characters and history themselves. and that's when it really gets to be a problem when you pass yourself off as knowing everything. you're just seeing what you want to see and hearing what you want to hear

and maybe that's true of me too! i know it is! there's a reason my blog is called Dafpork and not B💥ffy. but this leads to another point: i've had so many experiences where BFY shippers will put Dafpork under the bus and it's like. WHY? not that either is excusable, but you'd think that us Dafpork shippers would have a little bit more warranted frustration at being the absolute underdogs... gosh i got so mad i already lost my wording for this. but BFY is the biggest ship in the fandom and one of the most popular normie ships, what do you gain by vaguing Dafpork bloggers or the ship itself and acting like you're so threatened by it?? especially because... i love Dafpork, never shipped anything else and never will, but i understand why people like B💥ffy and i'm more than happy to coexist! but i barely ever see people extend that same grace to us. i saw someone genuinely get upset and making a bunch of posts when Daffy and Porky got married in LTC because it "threatened" B💥ffy. and i know this is rich coming from me, but... IT'S NOT THAT SERIOUS? even i can say "it's just a joke none of this matters"!!!!!! NONE OF THIS MATTERS!!! NOBODY making these cartoons, particularly the classics, were doing it out of the goodness of their hearts! these "jokes" are because homosexuality is funny and unnatural and it's so funny to see a man kissing another man and disarming their masculinity! Bob McKimson disparagingly described his unit as being filled with "drunks and queers". like. reclamation exists, it's most certainly what i'm doing, Daffy and Porky have helped me work out a lot of internalized homophobia on my behalf and it is through these silly gags admittedly at my expense that they have. the power of reclamation is really important. but.... these are gags... they're not married for real... it's Looney Tunes..

and i swear it feels like some people aren't willing to educate themselves. like, i'm always gonna ship Dafpork but i understand why people go for the other ship. but i feel like that same grace isn't extended to us. and i would be less offended if people weren't so dishonest about it. instead of calling Porky the token straight friend and saying he enables Daffy (yes, real takes i have seen) and that's why you can't see them together, because your entire understanding is informed by TLTS, just straight up say "i don't know/have very little interest in Porky and so i haven't really thought about how he might fit into this dynamic. he's not a focus of mine". THAT'S FINE!!! JUST SAY THAT!!!! that hurts my feelings so much less than pretending like you know all these things and just. AUGH. AUGHHHHH. not everyone has to ship Dafpork, i'm not saying Dafpork is right and the other is wrong, but i'm just so put off by other people not sharing that same flexibility! it legitimately offends me a little, especially because WE ARE THE UNDERDOG. Since Grace is the only one without FTEs at the moment by virtue of the fact that she just camps out in her room and any perceived attempts at invasion (socialising) are met with aggression (which, fun fact, is actually very identical to the territorial behaviour of rabbits btw), a lot about her remains unknown compared to the rest. However, from the small glimpses we get about her experiences in her industry, she definitely faced a shit-ton of misogyny in what is most likely a very male dominated field-- which Wolfgang actually points out.

Unfortunately he's not that wrong (and I actually kinda hate how I thought the EXACT same thing 💀). From everything I could find, golf is typically a more male dominated field, with women being way in the minority. I don't doubt at all she struggled to hell and back to climb the ranks to the where she is now, dealing with a lot violence due to jealousy and sexism like she implies to boot as well. It gives a different context to her personality in the killing game. She's loud and aggressive and quick to resort to violence. Compared to other women in our cast, she's undeniably the most volatile and dominating and hostile of them all, and I wonder if that's because it's the only way she was able to survive in her industry, let alone thrive enough to claim the title of "Ultimate Golfer" while being a woman at such a young age. The competitiveness and defensiveness she needs to stay afloat in her profession she seems to allow to bleed into her personal life as well, and I really wanna see that explored more.

Was Armand’s survival really one of the stakes for him? I think they showed he could overpower the coven in 204 so it wasn’t a question that he could’ve overpowered them in 207 and stopped the trial.

I think I’m just confused about the trial and hope they revisit it, Lestat looking fine and having enough energy to backsass Armand but also being controlled maybe when he was onstage is confusing? What was happening

I don't think Armand's survival was at stake at all, anon, and I agree that the show made it pretty clear that he could overpower the Coven even when they worked together as a collective, but as I said in that last ask, I think Armand's about as good at being on his own as Lestat is, and the choice Armand is faced with is less between life and death than it is between a community he's bored of, and a man who is only reluctantly committed to him at all. In that sense, I don't think the Coven would've killed him, but I think there's a good chance they would've effectively excommunicated him, which is a prospect that I think terrifies Armand.

I think there's something to be said in that sense about the fact that Armand has been groomed over and over again not just to serve, but to serve a community - he's sold into slavery, then brought into the Venice community (for better and for worse) by Marius, kidnapped by Santino and indoctrinated into the Children of Satan, and then given the new Paris Coven by Lestat. Armand's identity is malleable, but it's also deeply shaped by the communities he's dropped into (because he is dropped into them, rarely does he choose them), and in that way, he and Lestat are kind of two sides of the same coin. Again, they're both terrified of being alone, but in Lestat's case, it's because he's always been alone, and in Armand's case, it's because - at that point in the show - he never really has been able to be.

It's that that I think marks the threat for him in the lead up to the trial - the Coven is safe for him in a way that Louis is not. Choosing Louis would be to step away from the community he serves, and he knows the risk of that is rejection because he's tried to leave community before for Lestat, who did reject him. Twice! He already knows Louis' got a foot out the door with him, and when you add to that again that Armand's been groomed in the way that he has, I think it makes complete sense that he'd be terrified of losing the Coven as the anchor of his immortal existence, and Louis' destruction of it might be freeing in some ways, but it also means that for Armand, Louis becomes the entirety of the community he serves, which is what makes him so suffocating in their marriage, and also inevitably unable to leave him.

In terms of the rehearsal scene, I've talked about it a bit before here, but I really think a lot of that comes down to whose recollection it is, and my current interpretation is that Lestat probably was worse for wear, and that the way we see it is Louis imagining it based on Armand's script notes. Even at this point in the show, Louis doesn't know Lestat was imprisoned by Armand, and that script is really the first indication that Lestat didn't want to do the play. Although maybe Armand was just playing dress-up with him too, haha, he does in the book!

Y'know someone's probably waxed poetic about this already but it's on my mind so I'm gonna do it again.

When it comes to encouraging people to learn about native plants and habitat and involving themselves and their yards in the wider ecosystem, you gotta meet them where they're at.

And maybe that means they won't go as far into it as you are or would like them to in your wildest dreams. But even small steps count towards the bigger picture and I think we need to appreciate that more.

An example from my own life is my mom and the current gardening project we're working on. We're planning out the garden beds in the front of the yard by the mailbox--my mom's previous plantings for the most part haven't worked out, so I'm taking a crack at it.

I'm a pollinator gardening enthusiast who cares more about attracting as many butterflies bees and hummingbirds as possible than keeping things 'neat' and 'tidy'. However, not only do we live in an HOA neighborhood (though not as intense as some other stories I've heard), but I know my mother--an interior designer who has a deeply vested care for making sure the exterior of the house looks as Nice as possible.

We're still getting a pollinator garden in the front though. How? I'm meeting her where she's at, I'm making some concessions, she's making some concessions, but ultimately we're making something that works for the both of us. She doesn't want the plants too tall and messy? We'll trim them back in fall and winter--the insects can use the backyard garden to nest in. She doesn't want things too wild and bushy and weedy? We'll add a nice mulch to the beds, keep things a bit spaced out until they grow in to their larger sizes. She doesn't know the latin names for the plants I'm asking for, let alone how to pronounce them to ask for them at a garden center? That's fine, I don't know the Latin names for most things anyways, let's just use common names.

Does she care that the garden will attract butterflies and hummingbirds? Not intrinsically--she sees it as more of a bonus, if anything. She just cares about what color everything will be and if it'll be easy to maintain. The fact that they're native plants barely registers as a plus side to her. And honestly? That is fine.

If I approached this problem with a hardheaded attitude on how I wanted it to be just as wild and free as my backyard garden? There wouldn't be any native plants in the front beds. It's not like I didn't teach my mom things, but I didn't lecture her like she was lesser just for not knowing or caring as much about native gardening as I do. And that, ultimately, made her more open to the idea than she would've been if I looked down on her like I've seen too many people do to others.

Not everyone is going to develop a deeply seated care about native plants and Latin names and I don't think it's reasonable to expect that. Meet people where they're at and you just might get a lot more done. Meet people where they're at and you just might find they'll get excited enough to learn more--but if they don't want to learn more, that is fine.

We can't expect everyone on the globe to suddenly become plant experts rattling off Latin names left and right and professionally ID'ing native and invasive plants. In the same way we wouldn't expect everyone to suddenly learn the ins and outs of learning code, or how to synthesize medicines, or how to properly build a house. And that is fine. Because we can lean on those who do know when these things come up.
