Donuts and Lavender Tea

Summary: Mukuro works at a small town coffee shop and bakery and spends her free time playing COD competitions online. She's intrigued by one of her COD squad members, but she doesn't think she can just slide into her DMs. (She also desperately wants to flirt with one of her customers, but she doesn't want to make things awkward.)

What's a poor girl to do?

For DR WLWeek 2024: Prompt Three: Talentless.

“Cover me, cover me!”

“I’m down!  I’m down!”

Mukuro hides along the outside of the broken down house, clutching her gun to her chest.  She breathes easy – the adrenaline will come later, after they’ve won (or lost).  Right now, though, she’s relaxed, even as her comms fill with the cries of her squad falling one by one.

They haven’t gotten Ghost yet, though.  They haven’t gotten Ghost, and they haven’t gotten her.

Everyone else is just to distract them.

Ghost never communicates when they’re in the thick of things.  Mukuro rarely does either – only when things are getting drastic, only when she can feel herself going down.  Then Ghost needs to know.

(Even alone, Ghost wins.  Ghost always wins.)

Eventually, while Mukuro waits, their squad count drops.

Then there’s only the two of them left.

Mukuro smiles.

The Clean-Up Crew wins the match.

Of course.

They always win.

(But they put on a good show while they do.)

After the match, Mukuro pulls up the Ghost’s DMs.  They’re empty; she’s never worked up the ability to send an actual message.  No good games, no good jobs, no see you next times, no nothing.  Her fingers hover over the keyboard.

Eventually, she closes out of it again, just the same way she always does.

Next time.

She’ll be more prepared next time.

Besides, she needs to sleep.  She has to get up early for work in the morning.

Everything’s Coming Up Roses – a small, local coffee shop and bakery in the midst of Sunset’s old town downtown, only a few blocks from the local university (Hope’s Peak), home of the best coffee in the entire small town, and Mukuro’s job.  It doesn’t pay much – not even enough to pay the bills – but it comes with a lot of free coffee and a handful of free donuts every now and again.  Most importantly, Mukuro likes the job.  The pay offsets the prize money she gets from the Clean-Up Crew, so it’s all about the enjoyment anyway.

And there’s one more thing.

Kirumi Tojo, a professor at the local university, the first customer there every morning after Mukuro takes her shift, who always offers her a small smile when she orders.

It’s the best part of Mukuro’s day.

They never say anything much – just small talk.  Mukuro asks about Kirumi’s day, Kirumi says she can’t give information on her students (but often mentions something in passing anyway and gives that amused little smile), and that’s it.  Kirumi wishes her a good day.  It lasts all of five minutes – ten, at most – but it’s enough.  Every now and again, Kirumi returns at the end of Mukuro’s shift to grab lunch – one of the wraps that Clara, the owner, keeps on hand for her – but not often.  Still, Mukuro stays late most days anyway.  Just in case.

Today looks to be no different.

Except that this time, when Mukuro asks Kirumi how she’s doing, Kirumi avoids the discussion.  Her eyes grow dark.  “I….”  Her voice trails off, and her lips curve in a little frown.  “Nothing.”

“Something big coming up?” Mukuro asks as she gets Kirumi’s lavender tea ready.  (She’s considered having it ready and waiting before, but she’s never actually done it.  Maybe tomorrow….)  “Something…bad?”

“No.”  Kirumi sighs.  “Yes.  I’m not at leisure to discuss it, unfortunately.”

“Of course.”

That’s normal.

Mukuro wants to press further, but she suspects that trying to do so will only make Kirumi uncomfortable.  So instead, she hands her the cup of tea.  “Here,” she says.  “On the house.”  She opens her mouth as though to continue, closes it again, and then says, “And a donut.  They always make me feel better after a rough night.”

“You don’t have to—”

“It’s fine.”  Mukuro doesn’t smile, just rests her arms on the countertop and gives her a little nod.  “Just tell me which one you want.  I’ll take care of it.”

A blush spreads across Kirumi’s cheeks, and she nods once.  “Okay.”

Mukuro usually crashes immediately after her shift at Rose’s.  She sleeps during the afternoon and then spends the night and early hours of the morning playing COD.  Casual games, usually, or warm-ups for weekend competitions.  That’s no different today, and just as always, she pulls her phone up to check her DMs while she waits for the game to load.  Only this time, she has a message from the Ghost.

Her eyes widen.

Of course, Mukuro doesn’t have her settings to keep randos from sending her DMs, and since she and the Ghost share a common server, the Ghost can send her a message easily enough, just like Mukuro could send her one.  It’s just never happened before.  She takes a deep breath.

hidekisghost: are you free?

It’s been a couple hours.

Shit.

corpsey_mcmurderface: free now. corpsey_mcmurderface: sorry. crashed after work. corpsey_mcmurderface: what’s up

The Ghost probably isn’t available anyway, or she might be asleep, or—

Mukuro loses count of the games that the two of them play – the games they win.  There’s no competing with them; the Ghost picks up when she falters.  Mukuro’s not bait, of course; she can take care of herself.  But whenever anyone gets close to her, the Ghost blows them out of the water.

Letting off steam indeed.

But eventually—

Kirumi is whistling the next morning when she arrives at Rose’s.

Mukuro can’t help it – between having an actual conversation with the Ghost and Kirumi’s apparent cheer, she smiles, too.  Not much, not flashy, the way her sister might, but there all the same.  “Good morning?” she asks when Kirumi approaches the counter.

“More like a good night.”

“Oh.”  Mukuro’s smile freezes, so it’s a good thing that she’s facing away from Kirumi, fixing her tea.  “Good date?”

Kirumi smiles, a small thing easily hidden as she brushes her fingers through her hair.  “You could say that.”  She has the money set on the counter when Mukuro turns around.  “Thank you, for yesterday.  I didn’t deserve your kindness.”

Mukuro hands her the tea.  “Don’t mention it.”

“And you?” Kirumi asks, warming her hands on the cup.  “How was your evening?”

“Good,” Mukuro says, unable to stop the smile spreading across her face.  “It was really good.”

Mukuro doesn’t notice until after Kirumi’s gone that she’s left more than enough to cover her drink – more than enough to cover what Mukuro’d put on the house the day before.  Too much to be just a tip, even if Kirumi always tipped well.

It makes her smile.

It makes what already looks to be a good day even better.

Big TW for pet loss

Hey, clangen tumblr and those who just enjoy the silly cats on this blog. I know it's been a little bit of time since my last update, but unfortunately during the past few months, I have been caring for my closest friend, Comet.

She's been my best friend for 15 whole years, and on February 9th of 2024, I'm sad to say that she has passed. I won't lie when I say that this is one of the hardest posts I've ever made, but I want to continue this blog in her honor. Normally, I have a terrible habit of just letting projects like this slip by me and gather dust; however Comet was meant to play an integral part within the blog to immortalize her, and I refuse to let something meant just for her to go to waste.

I want to thank you all first of all for being such an amazing community. I've genuinely had so much joy come of this blog, and it pains me that I let it go stagnant for as long as I have. There are 568 of you now, which is so extremely wild to me; but I hope that from now on, you can all love Comet as much as I did, even if as a memory.

I hope to return to posting content both here and on my main, @mxssacre , but for now I still need time to grieve and come to terms with the loss of someone that was so incredibly intertwined with everything I've done since I was 9 years old.

Thank you for everything Comet, my heart, my soul, my love.

not sure if this is a controversial take but I genuinely do not care if they kissed in the elevator, and I don't think it takes anything away from the story if they didn't. They clearly loved each other and that was evident in how they treated one another in those last scenes especially.

Are you sure that's still Kennedi screaming? She (or, rather, her unconscious - and hopefully not lifeless - body) and her molten wreck of a Caliban have been with us at MSMC-148's drop site for like two hours now, waiting for pickup. Slipshod managed to pry your casket outta that slag heap you used to call a Genghis Mk. 1 and get you connected to a "life support" of sorts on one of their backup generators, but if you can still hear Kennedi's voice screaming bloody murder at you, then your systems might be fried worse than we thought. (No clue if that sort of thing is fixable or not...)

Hopefully the Albatross will be here soon. Our distress beacon is still up and running, and they should more than have our coordinates by now. We'll all be out of here soon. (I hope.)

I am getting Headcanons ready because I was thinkin' of writing something for a/b/o soon too ^^ Also I definitely didn't have to screenshot this anon really quickly because I posted the post too early and hadn't formatted anything yet

cw: Omegaverse, sfw, fluff, twins x reader, really rambly (I've not written anything omegaverse before and I am nervous)

Ω I picture their scents would actually be considered kind of unpleasant, especially in a world where people smell like flowers and spices and sugar and sweets- Both Ingo and Emmet perpetually smell like fuel and oil and sweat and iron and fire, which isn't much liked by most omegas.

Ω When relaxed, their scent is much more mellow and pleasant, though- Like fresh-cut lumber, coffee, or wood-smoke, or something heavily spiced. I think Ingo smells more like coffee and wood-smoke, whereas Emmet has a scent more like cinnamon and nutmeg and cloves- And both of them always have an underlying scent of iron and oil. Probably something to do with growing up and working around trains.

Ω Both of them are a little upset that so many omegas are turned off by their scent, and they don't have mates- Even though they're both very popular and accomplished trainers. They try not to let it bother them, but Emmet's woken up to himself nervously rubbing his wrists into his bed and wishing it was a cute little omega's nest, instead… Ingo is a hopeless romantic though and doesn't hide his sorrow half as well. He wistfully stares at couples and wishes he could've been a beta, if it would do anything to fix his scent problems.

Ω When they meet their darling omega, they're ecstatic, and can barely contain their excitement. An omega? Who doesn't hate their scent? They're also super nervous, and they have zero clue how best to catch your attention and interest.

Ω They suck at nest making, for the most part. They never learned, and so they follow your lead- They buy you lots of blankets, some pretty curtains, and any sort of lights or other things you'd like for your nest. They have a tendency to spoil you, but let them- They feel bad from not knowing how to make nests themselves.

Ω While they love you dearly, they act kind of distant- Scared to chase you off, nervous to show too much affection. You have to reassure them a lot that you really love them and want them, which is something new for them.

Ω They absolutely lose it if you ask them to scent something. Ingo gets wide eyed, and almost shocked. He gestures at himself, as if- No, you'd meant some alpha standing behind him. Once he gets over his shock, he's flustered and has wrapped the blanket or article of clothing around himself, trying to make it as Ingo-scented as possible. Emmet just beams with enthusiasm and snatches you and whatever you're holding into his embrace- Yes, he'll scent your clothing for you- And yourself.

Ω Ingo growls a lot, sometimes without even realizing it. He usually does it when he's holding you, or if he's in rut- Or in his sleep. Emmet typically whines at you. Ω Both of them are very clingy alphas, once they let themselves act more naturally around you. If you often sleep in your nest, they're pawing at the entrance to your abode- Two pitiful, half-undressed alphas almost whining at you to let them come in and cuddle, or join them in their beds for the night. If they ever catch you cuddling their clothing, they're melting and immediately jumping to join you- A coat is a poor substitute for your beloved alphas, after all.

Ω They like to spoil their omega. Not just in nest materials, but they'll probably want to take frequent baths with you, and treat you to nice things often. They practically parade you around with how much they love you and how much they take pride in being your alphas- Ingo will often take you to buy cute, comfy clothes- Emmet likes to treat you (and himself) to sweets. Ω They will also ask you to scent their own clothing! Especially their shirts, or the collars of their coats- Your scent is soothing and refreshing to them, especially if they're having a bad day.

Ω They love having you with them in Gear Station, and if Emmet spots you he practically runs up to scent you, kissing you and wrapping his arms around you. Ingo prefers to immediately invite you back to the office- He prefers to give his affections in private, unlike Emmet's PDA. If they're working and you're in their office, one of them might occasionally pull you in for a tight hug- Drinking in your scent, hearing your heart beat or your voice squeak in surprise.

Ω Cuddling you after a long day is something they love very very much- They put on a cool fan, or possibly two, or maybe three- and just lie around in bed or on the couch with you. Ingo gently rubbing his hands across your back, scenting you- And Emmet curling around you like a gremlin before he passes out.

i finally started reading the high republic books! i finished light of the jedi last night, so here are a few of my (non-spoilery) thoughts:

jedi doing cool shit with the force is my favorite thing and there is SO much good jedi doing cool shit with the force content

also the way the force was described was just, really beautiful. it's been a while since any visual star wars medium has really made me feel in awe of the force, but this did the job so well.

the little worldbuilding aspects were really cool. (hypserspace travel still being developed, bacta isn't mass-produced yet, etc.) this book was just a really nice reminder about how cool and strange and fun the star wars galaxy can be (when actual effort is put into making it that way)

on that note, god it felt good to have good star wars content. like this was SO. GOOD. (and i'm so so excited to move onto the next books, but i kind of didn't want this one to end bc charles soule is such a beautiful writer. and he made every pov interesting and engaging; i was never bored)

i think maybe my favorite pov to read from was bell's. he made me laugh, and soule wrote him in such a way that was youthful but not childish, and it was just such a joy reading his pov. i felt so connected to him immediately, and was so proud of him by the end of the book! can't wait to see where his story goes. (also i love his and loden's relationship and i have SO many feelings about the end of the book like..... iykyk.)

avar and elzar. avar and elzar. AVAR AND ELZAR. they've got me down so. bad. help.....i love both of them individually, and their dynamic together is everything to me actually. (i have so many more thoughts on them, but i’ll come back to them later)

another bullet point to again say how much i LOVE jedi doing cool shit with the force, and relating it to elzar and a) how he describes the force as an endless sea.... yeah. i'm in love w that description; and b) him wanting to push boundaries, explore all that the force is capable, is just really really cool.

the epilogue. I have not stopped thinking about it. like i got yearning and terrifying force visions all in one chapter?? charles soule did that for ME <3

i'm reading the main books for phase one in order, so next up is test of courage, then into the dark. (even though i reallyyyy want to just go right to the rising storm lol)

BAU guys + Love Languages (Pt1)

According to Dr. Gary Chapman, there're 5 main ways in which we show and receive love. These are some head canons on the love languages I think apply to each BAU guys. Are you compatible? Spencer Reid

Giving: Spencer definitely shows love through acts of services. He's the type of partner/friend that will help you with a chore or offer to do it for you. He's a "fixer" even if sometimes he doesn't understand what that means. As a friend, he'll constantly notice if you're struggling with a task and offer a solution. As a romantic partner, he'll always be ontop of your needs, physical and emotional, to make sure that they are being solved.

When communication is not good, he might come across as insensitive, sometimes you just want to vent and be heard. He might seem like he wants to one-up you or show you that he could solve the problem faster, but that's not his intention. He wants you to be well again, as quickly as he can make it happen.

Receiving: Words of affirmation is how he understands you love him. Thanks to his autistic tendencies/neurodivergent coding he has trouble understanding social cues and underlying messages. You have to be forward with him about everything you do, no matter how fast he can pick up on your mood, if you don't tell him what's wrong, he won't be able to tell.

If you're not able to communicate properly, he might feel unwanted and pushed away. Simple expressions such as "you did good" "thank you so much for helping me" "I appreciate your input on my work/issues" can be very fulfilling for him. He needs to be reminded of what he does well so he can continue doing it, even if he himself doesn't verbalize his feelings a lot. Physical touch and quality time are his least present languages.

Aaron Hotchner

Giving: Hotch mentions time and again how he tries his best to provide both the team and his family his undivided attention. Doesn't this sound just like quality time? His job might take him away for weeks at a time, sure, but it's his whole and complete intention to give you every second he has destined for you without any interruptions.

Because of the line of duty, this can be complicated, sometimes making you feel as if you come last. Even when his love language is in conflict with his line of work, once he's not working, it's all about you and his loved ones. Listening to hours of your rambling, not even looking at his phone (if it's not an emergency), watching an entire movie without falling asleep. When you're with him, he's there, he's present in every way.

His guilt and regret from being away can sometimes add a bit of gift giving to the love language, but even if he shows up with a bouqué of flowers, remember that's only a token, he's there for you and nothing but you.

Receiving: In the same way he makes all the effort to be there, he expects you to be there with him. If you start looking at your phone or pioritizing time with others over time with him, he will feel unhappy and unloved, it’s all about the quality time. Receiving gifts and physical touch don't go a very long way with him, so if you are making him feel unloved you will have to find another way to remind him. This doesn't mean he doesn't enjoy cuddles and gifts every now and then.

Words of affirmation can also be a good way to communicate your love for him, but it's only a support language for quality time. Having dinner without looking at the time, doing a puzzle together, cooperating to help Jack with his homework, those are the moments his heart feels the fullest.

Derek Morgan

Giving: This man will shower you with so many words of affirmation and compliments you might feel like suffocating at times. He will praise you and let you know how adored, cared for, and desired you are. Mix it up with a bit of gift giving, and you've got that attentive boyfriend. Communication is key, because you might run into some trouble if you can't agree exactly on what a praise is. He can run his mouth, and sometimes he says stuff that, even if it's not ill intentioned, might come out as harsh and judgemental.

If you struggle with your self-perception, at times it might feel like he's lying to you or trying to deceive you for an specific purpose. Remind yourself that Derek Morgan is one of the most honest men to ever exist, and he would never say a word he didn't mean (as long as he isn't angry!).

Receiving: This PDA king needs his share of lovin', physical touch is how you can remind him he's the man of your dreams. Holding his hand, touching his shoulder, kissing him in public. He loves being displayed as your man, he loves feeling the electricity generated by your skin when it touches his. If you struggle with physical touch, he might come to think you don't desire him. You'd have to be open about your feelings towards the gestures, and come up with some rules, maybe you don't initiate the contact but try your best to not reject them.

During intimate times, it's very relevant that you initiate contact every once in a while, otherwise he might feel the relationship is one-sided. If you're unable to provide the touch he needs, at least make sure you give him quality time, when you're with him, it should only be about the two of you. This is only a supplement, but it will remind him of your care for him. The least understanble love languages for this man are acts of service and receiving gifts. He can do and buy things for himself, thank you very much.
