*Meeting the new Rock Angel. Filming continues*
A few days later after bonding with the actors playing my boys, I came to any day of filming I could (outside of my album recording and touring with Queen and Adam). Now the boys promised me and I knew they would follow up with it, the young actress they got to play me in as a cameo for the Live Aid sequence.
I was talking with Miami when we both heard a knock and that's when Graham King came in.
"I've got her."
"Bring her in." I said. He opened the door wider and soon came in the young woman came in.
"You wanted to see me Mrs. Kline?"
"Yes my dear come in." I said. She came in and took a seat on one of the producer's chair. "I wanted to speak to you guys privately about some things that have come up. But first I would like to know your name my dear girl."
"Ashley. My name's Ashley Johansson. But my friends call me Ash."
"Lovely to meet you Ash, from what I saw up there you—you blew me away."
"Uhh thank you. And can I just say I've been such a big fan of yours. My mum always played your first album on repeat every day when she'd take me to school. But I thank her for that cause your story has just been such an inspiration to not only me but her as well."
"I'm flattered Ash. I'm always happy to hear that I inspire people, even when I feel like I'm not really doing anything. All I do is just bring my music out into the world and try to give voice to things that other's don't deem important."
"That makes you an inspiration Mrs. Kline." She said.
"Oh please Ash darling, call me (y/n)."
"Okay....(y/n)."
"Now then straight to business. As you know Hollywood's always wanting to create biopics of anything and everything. And while I've been aware of both Queen's story as well as Elton's life being made into films. I've always been reluctant in getting my story out, but from what I saw a few days ago I feel like I might've found the right team to do just that. So my dear Ash, tell me this; who do you trust the most in Queen?" she looked at me confused but she soon realized just what I was doing.
"Brian was asking me tons of questions but that was the only question Roger ever asked me."
"And what did you tell him?"
"I told him, that.....All the members of Queen are my family. But if I had to pick, Roger has always seen each side of me. Whether it was the happiest moment of my life, or the darkest day. He's seen my true colors that none of the other band members had seen." I smiled softly and said.
"What happened after you said that?"
"He—he might not have wanted anyone to know but—I could swear I saw him wipe a tear from his eye." I smiled and lowered my head.
"That's my papa lion alright." I muttered. I looked back up to Graham and Ashley and continued, "After seeing the hard work you all have put into Queen's story, I've come to the decision along with my manager and former boss Miami, that I'm willing to sign off the rights to the film to you Graham King. And I want you my dear Ash to play me." They both looked at me in surprise.
"You're—you're serious? You-you want me to play you?"
"I can think of no other person. My uncle and father figures chose well. They—after all knew me better than I knew myself." I heard Miami chuckle softly.
"Thank you (y/n)."
"But there are conditions that I seriously must emphasize on."
"Whatever you want."
"Okay first; I will be heavily involved with the project."
"Done." He said.
"Second, there are some events I will allowed to be shown. But I absolutely refuse to have the stalking episode I was forced to suffer with be heavily shown. It can be touched on but I want nothing else about it in the film. It was hell for my family and my children were scarred for almost ten years, especially my daughter."
"It was horrifying. In my Folklore and true crime class, someone actually did a story on him in the aspect of why celebrity stalking should've been taken more into consideration." Ash said. I closed my eyes heavily trying to compose myself when I felt a hand grasp mine.
"If anything more is spoken about in regards to my Angel's stalker, the project will immediately be terminated." Miami said. I turned to him and he looked at me and nodded firmly as he patted my hand comfortingly.
"The writer's will be informed on it immediately."
"And in regard to Queen's casting, make sure that those four young boys are involved with the project. I love all four of them, they are—everything I remember when I first worked with Queen."
"It shall be done. After this film wraps up and the premiere at Wembley Stadium, you and I can meet at Abbey Road to discuss further more on the project and all the rights that need to be signed." Graham told me.
"Graham King, you've got yourself a deal." We both shook on it. A pact forged that a movie about the Rock Angel would come to place.
Months passed and I was busy touring alongside Queen and Adam for a time, up until Brian decided to pop in on set for a surprise visit. He told me that the boys were now filming the Rockfield farm studio scenes. Now this was one filming session I definitely didn't want to miss.
Brian and I drove up to the location in Hertfordshire, a charming little place known as Stocker's farmhouse and cottage. Since the real Rockfield farm studios wasn't suitable for filming, and ridge farm closed down back in 2003, Stocker's was the only place left.
Coming up onto the filming location, I began to see it looking sorta similar to what Rockfield was when I had used it earlier in my career.
"The studio definitely chose the perfect setting I must say." I said to Brian who was driving.
"Indeed. When the lads and I first came to Rockfield farm we couldn't believe that that was what Fred had in mind."
"But the wide open spaces sure do provide little to no distraction. Guess that's what made a Night at the Opera so successful to you guys."
"You really think so?"
"I know that's how it was for my first album. Plus why do you think your 5th album is the most talked about in regard to your earlier works."
"Suppose you do have a point." He shrugged. After about ten minutes of driving through the country roads, we finally arrived at the farm and the barn house there made me think of the real Rockfield farm studios.
"Not quite the same but the atmosphere of it just brings back memories doesn't it?"
"It does indeed. Shall we go surprise them?"
"Yes, lets." He shut the car off and we both exited the car. We walked towards the barn house where the guys must already be filming right about now since there wasn't really anyone outside. Once we got up to the door, Brian slowly and quietly opened the door but gestured me to go in first.
"Oh lady's first." He said.
"Thank you." I walked inside and Bri followed behind me. Inside I saw some of the crew walking around setting some stuff up. All around it was like the actual recording studio Rockfield farm had. From all the pictures I remember seeing in either magazines or even Brian himself, it was like I was transported back in time to when Queen recorded "A Night at the Opera".
"You know some of those amps and even Roger's kit we used at the time are here."
"Really? So you and Rog donated some of the actual gear?"
"Yep. Since the fans will be nitpicky about certain aspects it's just a fun little way to give them a taste of some of the real equipment. Even Red's here."
"No way. No wonder why you've been using those Red special copies throughout the tour. But Bri are you sure it's okay? I mean I know how protective you are of Red."
"She's been in the best of care."
"Right, right with your mini-copy. I swear even out of the wig and the clothes I can still see you in Gwilym. Are you sure you didn't have another child with a different woman besides Chrissie?"
"I'm positive." He assured me.
"Oh and speak of the devil there's your clone now. Why don't you go say hi while I go find the rest of the little rascals." I patted his shoulder and walked off. As I walked along I saw a familiar figure wearing a long blonde hair sitting next to another young man wearing long auburn hair that went past his shoulder.
I shook my head and walked up to them saying.
"God I swear it's like I transported back in time to 1975." They looked up and proclaimed my name. I was soon tackled in a sandwiched by Joe Mazzello and Ben Hardy.
"What are you doing here? I thought you were touring?" asked Ben.
"I was. But Brian decided to do a little surprise visit so I figured since I missed seeing you four so much, I figured I'd tag along and see how it's coming along. So what all have you done since I was last here?"
"We did a scene in Miami's office to represent Queen getting back together before Live Aid, a concert at Madison Square Garden, and the recording studio scene with Mike Myers." Joe explained.
"Now for the next couple of weeks we'll be doing some of the Rockfield farm recordings as well as the Bohemian Rhapsody music video, when Freddie joins Smile, and the "I want to Break free music video." Ben finished.
"Oh now that last one I've got to see for myself." I said grinning ear to ear. "I'll bet you four are gonna rock the drag look just like my boys did. Especially you Ben." I teased as I gently pinched his cheek.
"Yeah Benjamin I can't wait to see you in that skirt." Joe teased as well pinching his other cheek.
"Alright, alright you two enough." He said brushing our hands away and trying to contain his blush. I giggled softly.
"When that day comes, do I got some stories to share with you all about that day."
"We look forward to hearing them." Said Joe.
"And I look forward to telling them. Just let me know if you boys ever get bored of an old woman ranting on about the past."
"Never (y/n). We could never be bored of you. We love having you here, you've given us a lot of support and advice for playing your coworkers and family members." Ben said as he leaned his head against my shoulder.
"Yeah. We could never get bored of you. The day we get bored of you is the day the four of us stop being Queen fanatics. And this movie only keeps increasing our fandom tenfold each and every day." Joe said as he leaned up against my other shoulder.
"Aww you boys are sweet." I kissed Ben's cheek first which made him blush and softly chuckle.
"You lucky dog! I wanna Rock Angel smooch!"
"Then pucker up Joey dear." He puckered up his lips and I leaned in but at the last second I kissed his cheek which made him pout like a child. I laughed and said. "Sorry my dear, but my lips are reserved for one man."
"Can't blame a guy for trying though right?" he asked hopefully.
"No. I guess not. Now Benjamin, if you'll come with me real quick I would like to spend a little one on one time with you." I wrapped an arm around him when Joe said.
"Better not seduce him away from me!"
"Please Joe dear like I'd ever steal a man from you!" I cried back at him. We walked outside and walked towards the cottage. "Ben I've been wanting to ask you something."
"What is it?"
"When we first met; I had mentioned that I was looking forward to seeing you play the drums, but I noticed that you seemed a bit—tense." He froze right there on the spot. I turned towards him and stood in front of him. "Benjamin. Is there something you'd like to share with the class?"
"Well I—uhh.....when I, when I went to auditioned I—might've said that I......knew how to play the drums. But I've....never drummed a day in my life."
"So you lied? You lied and ended up getting the part of playing my only father figure in the world?" I snapped.
"I'm sorry (y/n) I just really wanted the job. But I worked hard and trained over ten hours a day in the 8 weeks rehearsal time before we shot Live Aid. I just love Queen so much and I—"
"Ben." I pressed my finger to his lips. "Relax. I knew you lied the second day of filming. Roger told me."
"Did he mention the prank that Rami tried to pull on me?" I nodded as I hummed. "Damn rat."
"Oh trust me. When it comes to certain secrets, Roger cannot keep them forever. Especially when his lion cub gets involved in wanting to know." I removed my finger and cupped underneath his jawline. "But when I saw you perform the entire Live Aid sequence, it hardly seemed like you hadn't drummed a day in your life. While I don't condone for liars, I appreciate that you took the time to study just how exactly Roger drums."
"It wasn't easy. But he was supportive and he even gave me a mini drum lesson. Of course he had to step back and say 'alright. Show me what you got'."
"That's exactly like Roger. He always did the same to me whenever he gave me a drum lesson. I remember when he taught me how to play 'Don't stop me now' back when I was an intern and he told me to play it all the way through."
"Jesus that's rough."
"Depends on how you look it. Guess I got on the lighter end than you did cause he's always had a soft spot for me. But his heart's always in the right place when he mentors. Just ask his son Rufus. That boy takes everything after his father. Not just his looks but his talent too."
"Yeah. Roger has given me some good pointers on how to strike the cymbals on a certain song. Or how to properly spin the drumsticks."
"Knowing how to keep the heartbeat going. The drums are the center of the band. If one beat is off, the entire song can go to shit."
"That was always his number one rule to playing the drums. Drilled that into my head every time." I sighed reminiscing the old days of my tutorial sessions with my dad. "So he really was like your father?"
"Yeah. Out of all the members of Queen, Roger was the one I was drawn to the most. It also helped that he loved me just as much as I did him. Always there to comfort me at my lowest moments, but there to celebrate and keep me grounded when I was higher than a kite. Roger Taylor has and will always be my papa lion."
"That's so cute you guys called each other that. Anytime you came up in conversation, Roger always called you his lion cub."
"Either that or his lioness. Lioness is more for the moments when my true strength comes into play and I do something world changing. Lion cub is like a private thing between us. God I can't believe I confessed to him being a lion to me when I was drunk. But if I'm being honest, I don't regret it."
"I can see you don't, my little lion cub." I looked at him and he just gave me Roger's cheeky grin and that familiar twinkle in his eyes just made my heart flutter.
"Cheeky." I grinned. He smiled and shrugged playfully.
Yeah I know he may not look exactly like Roger when I met him but there are some mannerisms that Ben has that just made me think of my adoptive father.
We continued to walk into the cottage cause I wanted to see what they did to the inside of it. There I saw Rami sitting by the piano in the now wearing the long black hair that Fred had at the time. Jesus without the tache, he looked more like Freddie than I could ever imagine.
However that happiness soon turned to dread and absolute disgust as soon coming right beside Rami was a young man who looked like someone who I had loathed my entire life. The one man who made my life a living hell throughout my years with Queen, the poison who nearly destroyed Queen and exposed my secret to the boys.
It was Paul Prenter.
Rami and Paul were chatting away with each other and I felt sick to my stomach.
"(Y/n)? You okay?" Ben asked me.
"Excuse me." I muttered as I passed him. I trudged right over towards Rami and shielded him. "Stay. Away. From him you snake!"
"E-excuse me?" he asked confused. "I don't know what you're talking about." Typical Prenter.
"Don't play games with me Prenter! You might've fooled Freddie once but you will not do it again! I lost him because of you. You ruined his life! And I swear to you I will make you pay for it. I'm not that little girl anymore!"
"(Y/n)! (Y/n) calm down. He's not really Paul Prenter." Rami tried to reason with me.
"Freddie please I'm doing this to protect you!" I then gripped the collar of Paul's shirt and dragged him aside. "You lying son of a bitch! How dare you show yourself again!"
"Wait! Wait I'm not Paul Prenter!"
"STOP LYING TO ME!!!"
"(Y/N)! (Y/N) (M/N) KLINE LET. HIM GO!!" I turned to see Brian as well as Joe, Gwilym and Ben along with some of the crew staring at me. Brian stomped towards me and pulled me away from Paul and he said to me in a stern voice. "The real Paul Prenter is dead. He's been dead just as long as Freddie has. That's an actor playing him. Alan Leech."
My adrenaline came down and when I looked at 'Prenter' again to see that it wasn't the Paul Prenter I knew. For one thing this guy was much younger, the tache wasn't as thick as Paul's was, and his eyes weren't as cold as I remembered Prenter's, they shown with absolute fear.
Oh god.....what have I done? I collapsed to the ground trembling with regret as tears formed in my eyes. I buried my face into my arms as I softly wept. It was then I felt Brian's arms wrap around me, his head gently resting on top of mine as he rocked me slowly while I wept.
*3rd Person POV*
Rami, Joe, Gwilym and Ben looked at each other before turning towards Allen who spoke not a word but was just as worried as the four main ensemble cast was. Rami first tried to approach (y/n) but Brian looked up at him and put his hand up and shook his head.
After she went silent, Brian helped her stand up and he walked her over to the car. He allowed her to just sit there and have some time to herself. Once he shut the door, the young actors walked up to Brian and Joe asked.
"Is she gonna be okay?"
"With time. Allen I apologize ever so much but you can't blame (y/n). The real Paul Prenter he—put her through hell when she started off as an intern. One thing he did was extremely unforgivable that I don't see why we ever kept him around."
"Brian, she uhh—I know I shouldn't say this but when she was trying to defend me from Paul, she—actually called me Freddie." Brian sighed solemnly and said.
"She still blames herself."
"What do you mean?" asked Gwilym.
"Come with me lads." Brian led them over to the cottage porch and all of them sat down along either the railings, the porch swing or on the two chairs that were out. "As you know everyone in Freddie's life suffered after his death. Some of us still grieve the way we do like Roger and myself. And there are some who became so fragile like Deacy. (Y/n).....she's always lied on the in between stage. She misses Freddie beyond anything no mistake about that, but then there are days when she blames herself."
"Blames herself?" Rami asked.
"Yes. See, when Freddie first told us that he was diagnosed with AIDS. He wanted to keep it away from (y/n), because her career was skyrocketing, plus she had her own family to look after with Kelly and the twins. Freddie didn't want her to worry about him, but one year when we were all in Montreux recording our last album Innuendo, (y/n) allowed us to stay at a vacation house of hers that she had there. That's when she began to deduce just what was wrong with Fred. He told Roger and myself that the poor dear had blamed herself for not being there for him. Because—well truthfully there was a fallout with Queen and the Rock Angel for a time. Now whether we make that into the film is unknown I know writers are always doing rewrites. But she felt like had she stepped up to Prenter or held onto Freddie just a bit longer before turning her back on him, he would've been alive today."
"Jesus." Muttered Ben.
"Poor lass." Allen muttered.
"But she couldn't have known. None of you did."
"And we didn't. Because Fred didn't want anyone to know. It was his personal business and his alone. And although (y/n) says she accepts that it wasn't her fault, there are some days where she says it is. And any reminder of it just sometimes makes her snap."
"I don't blame her. I—I know exactly what she's going through because of my dad's illness. Anything regarding glioblastoma and I just freak out. But—thanks to these guys I.....don't know where I would be."
"We're here for you mate." Gwil said as he patted Joe's knee.
"So you see guys, this film is bringing back a lot of memories for her. Good and bad. So Allen I really hope you don't take offense to what just happened."
"Not at all Brian. Besides after hearing and probably thinking what the real Paul Prenter did, no wonder why she would get defensive around Rami. I hold no grudge against her."
"Thank you. Just—give her time to cool down and then you all can go see her." The five boys nodded in agreement and took the guitarist's word.
*My POV*
After a while once I calmed down and decided I needed to find young Allen Leech and apologize for my erratic behavior. I got out of the car and dapped my eyes with a handkerchief and walked towards the barn.
"Excuse me, Mrs. Kline. We're—not sure it's a good idea for you to be here right now." Said one of the crew members. That's understandable, I knew it wouldn't be that easy.
"It's not that we don't want you here it's just that, well after seeing what happened between you and Mr. Leech. We—think it'd be best if you were to not be on the set for a while." I sighed and said.
"I understand. I was way out of line. But—can you please express my deepest apologizes to Mr. Leech. As well as the boys."
"You can tell me that yourself." An Irish voice spoke up. It was then I looked up to see the five boys themselves.
"You're not going anywhere." Said Rami.
"Mr. Malek, we....."
"We heard what you said dear. Now step away from our Rock Angel so that the six of us may talk." He came up and took my hand and the boys took me into the cottage.
We came into the kitchen area and Rami gestured for me to sit down. Joe pulled out a chair and I sat down while the boys surrounded me.
"Boys; I—what you all had to witness, I have no excuse for my behavior. I am ashamed that you all had to see me act like that. Especially you Allen dear. I—hope you all can find it in your hearts to forgive me."
"I do. Seeing me remind you of someone who—was just known to be such an arsehole and black sheep in Queen's circle, I can see why you acted the way you did. I would've done the same thing too had I seen someone I hate come back and standing before someone who was once a dear friend of mine." Allen said. He came up to me and extended his hand.
"Why don't we forget this whole mess ever happened and start over? Hello Rock Angel, my name's Allen Leech." I looked up at him and smiled as I took his hand.
"Pleasure to meet you Allen darling. And please like I've told these guys, call me (y/n)." he smiled and that's when I stood up and hugged Allen and he hugged me back.
"Aww now that's sweet." Rami cooed.
"We're all friends now." Joe said with a smile.
"Yes. We're all friends. Now get in here you lot, group hug boys!" they all laughed and cheered as we all came together and group hugged each other. Forming a new bond and a new start with one another.
Thankfully the studio actually managed to let me stay the rest of the day after that whole fiasco (all thanks to the boys but mostly Allen for agreeing to not press charges on me for assault). Of course they warned me that with another outburst like that, not only would I not be allowed on set again, my consultant position would be taken away.
So I was more well behaved than usual after hearing that I would be kicked off the set.
Right now the lads were recording Gwilym's bit for the guitar solo, but what was cool was that the crew decided to allow Brian to play the solo for the fun of it. So as the playback of Freddie's voice came on, Gwilym stepped aside while Brian came in his spot and began playing his guitar solo.
I stood beside Gwilym as we both observed Brian playing the famed Bohemian Rhapsody guitar solo. I even took my phone out and took a video of what was going on. After the solo, Gwilym walked over to Brian and I made sure to get both of them in the shot.
"That's brilliant. I love that." Rami's voice spoke as Freddie from the other side of the recording studio.
"So now what?" asked Gwilym.
"The operatic section." Said Rami. Both Gwilym and Bri nodded. A grin spreading across Gwilym's face as he muttered.
"Ah-huh. The operatic section. Good."
"Of course." Brian said. Jesus just seeing them like this and hearing the same voice come out of them, it really was like we took Bri back from 1975 and brought him here.
When Dexter Fletcher called cut, I stopped my video and said.
"Oh man Jack's gonna flip when he sees this."
"Is he ever gonna come by for a visit?" Brian asked me.
"Yeah I myself would like to meet the famous Jack Kline." Joe said from the other side of the booth.
"Well unlike us where we know when our schedules begin, law enforcement doesn't get days off. Especially when he's going for the Chief's chair. But who knows maybe he might come by for a day if not a few hours."
"I hope so. It's been awhile since we've seen that husband of yours." Brian told me.
"Yeah, I know. Jack misses coming in every day just like the old days."
"I'll bet he does. Or he just misses seeing the love of his life perform and rehearse. Back in the day when you kids first started dating, he'd always have that puppy love look in his eyes as he watched up on stage. Remember the time in Seattle?"
"That was in Houston, Bri. If you're meaning the time he was so distracted by watching me that he almost ended up tripping over the stage, that was in Houston, Texas."
"Oh yeah that's right."
"Alright we've had our fun, now let's do this for real. Gwilym get to your mark. Brian and (y/n), gonna have to ask you both to get out of the shot frame please."
"Good luck Gwilym dear." I said as I gave him a peck on the cheek for luck as Brian handed him his original red special and we both walked out of the frame and stood behind the camera.
The day continued on filming the boys recording the famed song that this movie was named after and I swear to you, it was like I was seeing history happen. Like I was transported back in time to the summer of 1975 and seeing my boys (just five years before they even became my boys, back when I was just one of their millions of fans) record one of my favorite albums.
And even seeing the struggle and perfectionism that Freddie had for this song. Rami truly brought Freddie's perfectionist behavior right onto the camera and it just—had me bewildered. It was like I was seeing Freddie again, hard at work on his masterpiece.
After a long day's filming, Brian and I unfortunately had to head back to the city to actually record an album together that he was helping me produce. Since touring was over for now, the boys and I (yes including Adam) we were all focusing on our solo stuff now till the next tour came around.
And since Bri had some free time after working with a talented young woman, I had asked him to come help produce my latest album 'Resurrection'. Ever since hearing about the Queen film and also hearing that Elton as well was going to make a biopic film, the title was named in honor of their upcoming films.
Because it would show a whole new generation of audiences what their stories were and show them that like a phoenix, Queen and Elton will resurrect because you can't keep down true legendary artists.
So for about 2 weeks Brian helped produce the album and of course he and I would post on our Instagram accounts both pictures of brief videos of some behind the scenes stuff of our partnership together.
"And there she is. Working diligently as ever." I heard Bri said. I looked up from my I-Pad to see him holding his phone, probably taking a video for his collection package he likes to do on certain events on his Instagram.
"Yes and I thought you'd be helping me too."
"I am. I'm your publicity for now, then I'll go back to being your producer." I smiled and laughed as Brian chuckled. He turned his phone onto him as he spoke to his Instagram followers, "As you can see we're both working extremely hard. Now we can't give too much away, but you can expect this album to be just as powerful as her previous albums in the past."
"But we unfortunately have to go now, our special guest on the album has just arrived and like Bri said, I never give away spoilers." I said as I came in the shot now.
"Okay well you heard the Angel ladies and gents, this is us signing off till next time. Bye."
"Bye!" Brian turned off the video camera and exited his account. And just as he pocketed his phone away, my special guest came in through the doors.
"(Y/n)!"
"Pink, my sister how have you been?" Yep you read right. I had reached out to the one and only Pink to come sing a duet with me. For years since she came up on the market, people have confused our voices cause she and I had the same powerful low range vocals.
Our first time doing a duet was—oh gosh I wanna say very early 2000's. I wanna say even just shortly after the 9-11 attack. I wanted to bring up an album that would spark some life and hope into the people of America, my in-laws especially cause when we lost Jared and Gen, the whole family felt like it was gonna come apart.
I auditioned several young female artists to sing along with me but their voices just either weren't right for the album or they sounded too nasally. But when this young woman at the time, an artist barely known came along, it blew me away at how our voices could mold well together.
So with me singing in a higher range and her taking the low range we launched the song 'Death by bombs, (live by hope)'. It was at the #1 charts in America for the entirety of the New York cleanup and became a national anthem. Pink and I were even asked for several years to sing the song every 9-11 for about 9 years.
Now here we are again six years after our last collaboration.
"You ready to do this?" I asked her.
"Angel, I was born ready. Anytime to sing with you is always gonna be a good one."
"Alright then ladies, step into the booth and let's get this song rolling."
"You got it Brian." Pink said enthusiastically as she and I walked with an arm wrapped around each other's shoulders and we walked into the booth together to begin our work.
Another week passed and when I received a message from Ben Hardy telling me that they were about to start filming my all time favorite music video 'I want to break free' I was on the first flight back to England (since I was recording the album in America) to see the shooting for myself.
I walked through the studio and everything came flooding back. The extras in the cow patterned leotards, the design of the music video set but it wasn't until I saw Joe dressed in the same granny attire that Deacy wore that hit me with pure nostalgia.
"Oh my god nana Johanna I did not know you were still alive." I said exasperatedly.
"Yeah, yeah hahaha very funny." Joe sneered.
"No, no Joe don't take my comment as an insult. You look—every ounce from what I remember Deacy looking like the day I came by with my wedding invitations."
"You were passing out wedding invitations during this music video?" he asked me. I nodded with a hum.
"Jack and I decided to come by to see the guys cause I wanted to deliver their invitations personally. And also ask them to walk me down the aisle since—well you probably know."
"Yeah I get it." He said as he came up and placed a hand on my shoulder. "So you really think I looked exactly like John did?"
"Absolutely. All that's missing is a crying girl crying out 'where's daddy! Where's daddy! That's not my daddy'."
"Okay this could be my dirty mind but that sounded—" I playfully slapped him in the back of the head.
"You're right to get your head out of the gutters young man! I was referring to his daughter Laura. I mean I wasn't there to see it, but Veronica had told me just shortly after the shoot that she had brought the kids over to see their father. Of course Michael and Robert were hysterical with laughter, but poor little Laura who was only 4 at the time was crying cause she didn't recognize her dad."
"Awww well if you wanna recreate it, I can call my sister and get my niece on Facetime to see if it'll work."
"As much as I would love to see that, let's not scar your niece up for life. But yeah, Laura kept denying that the old granny was her dad. Until he took off the wig and she recognized her daddy's fluffy hair."
"That is literally the most adorable thing I've ever heard."
"I know. Laura was a sweet kid. She was the one most attached to me when I first met her. She even recreated a bit of my song for my birthday when she was just 3 years old."
"Okay (y/n) seriously stop you're gonna give me cavities at this point." I laughed and said.
"Alright now show me the rest of the boys, I want to see them."
"They all look amazing. Except for Ben." I looked at him skeptically but he just took my hand and led me towards the kitchen part of the set. There I saw Rami by the table in the pink shirt and leather black skirt, sporting the 1950's hairdo and nails that Freddie wore that day. Gwilym by the fridge in the pink nightie and bunny slippers, along with the curlers, and of course Ben in the 'Rogerina' getup.
The same style wig, the schoolgirl outfit with the leggings, the heels. Wow he looked more of a Rogerina than the real Roger did for this music video.
I let out a wolf whistle and that's when the three of them turned towards me.
"Rogerina has returned. The women who makes men drool at her feet and women turn for her. And if my son Freddie were here, honey you would most certainly turn him."
"God (y/n) please stop embarrassing me." Ben whined.
"I shall not. My cousin Rogerina was the talk of the town back home. Of course along with Aunt Brianna and Fairy godmother Frida."
"Is that what you really called the guys when you saw them like this?" asked Gwilym.
"Who do you think started the trend names? Freddie's was—kinda last minute since....well due to certain things going on at that time. But really you guys, I love each and every one of you."
"I'm still disappointed in Ben's look." Joe bluntly stated.
"And why's that?"
"His thighs are too big. Too much rugby."
"Yes Joe I know. I've been trying to slim down as best I could but these thighs man!"
"Not everyone can please everybody Ben. But trust me when I say, fans will love this and will love you as Rogerina. Plus I think you look absolutely beautiful."
"You really think so?"
"Hell yeah. You're still prettier than I am."
"Oh come on now that's never gonna happen. You are an eternal beauty."
"That's what I've been telling her for years." A voice said behind us. No way. It—it couldn't be. I turned around and my ears weren't deceiving me at all.
Dressed in grey shirt with a dark color blazer and dark blue jeans, the greying of his once blonde hair but those warm eyes of his were unmistakable. A wide smile spread across my face as I laughed out and walked towards him.
"Jack!" I hugged him and he hugged me back. I separated but kept my arms wrapped around his neck. "What are you doing here?"
"The case got solved so I figured might as well put some time off and see just what you and Freddie were talking about. So I called up Roger and asked him where the filming was at, and here I am."
"Ohhh you." I leaned forward and we gave each other a loving kiss.
"Awww." We separated from each other and I cleared my throat.
"Whoa. Okay did we just transport back in time?" asked Jack.
"No love. Boys, I'd like you to meet my husband and the love of my life for over 30 years, Jack Kline. Jack, this is Rami Malek, Gwilym Lee, Joe Mazzello and Ben Hardy." I pointed to each of the actors individually.
"It's a pleasure to meet you boys." Jack said with a wave.
"Believe us, it's an honor to meet you Mr. Kline. Brian, Rog and (y/n) have told us many stories about you." said Rami.
"Oh god, if Roger was telling the stories he made me look bad didn't he?" I playfully slapped his chest.
"Not all the time." replied Ben.
"In all seriousness, I must say.....wow this is....."
"I know right? Oh darling just wait till you see the Live Aid sequence Brian managed to record. Don't they just look the part?"
"Yeah. So much so that it's almost scary."
"Ohh and Jack dear, you remember back when George and Jackson were obsessed with Jurassic Park?"
"Lord do I ever. They practically ruined the tape." He said with a groan.
"Well—Joe here, played the young boy Tim in the film." I then saw Jack's jaw drop as he turned towards Joe.
"So you're—you were....."
"Yep. I was little Tim Murphy in Jurassic Park. My first major gig that got my name out there."
"Wow. And seeing you now dressed like this it—you look so much like him." Jack said in awe. I turned to Joe with a 'told you so' look.
"Yeah it was scary to see just how much I looked like him. I even asked my mom if she was up to anything around 1983." Jack laughed.
The rest of the day was spent seeing the boys perform the music video, as well as a couple more stage concerts from both the 70's and 80's. When Jack got to see these four young actors in full Queen costume and hair/makeup, he was blown away. As we were in the back of the extras who were the crowd, Jack kept his arms around me as we watch in awe.
His head leaning against mine as we watched Rami literally become Freddie with every strut, head turn and bent back, se saw Gwilym play a model of the red special guitar just how Brian is known for, Ben working hard in the back with the drums literally playing just like how Roger is known to play. But I know that out of the four of them, Jack was beyond amazed at seeing Joe Mazzello play his former mentor and idol John 'Disco' Deacy.
His bass playing and even doing the funky little moves that John as known to do on a more upbeat song like 'Fat Bottomed girls,' or 'We will Rock you'. We clapped along with the extras and cheered for them. I knew that with what I've seen so far, this movie was going to be—sensational. Just like the band themselves.
Later that night after wrapping for the day, Jack and I were now at home getting ready for bed.
"So, what did you think of it?"
"They picked the right actors. And the right team to work on it. You were right (y/n)."
"Of course I am." I teased.
"Don't get cheeky with me love, you know what I mean. This movie it—it's everything I hoped it would be. I just wonder if—he would've loved it." I looked at my husband empathetically and said so
"He does." I looked out towards the window up at the stars and continued, "They both do." I felt Jack wrap his arm around me and the two of us cuddled up close together and fell right asleep after a long and busy day.

the one that got away
title: the one that got away
pairing: joe goldberg
warnings: adult language, spoilers for season two of ‘you’, very brief mentions of violence
notes:  joe’s pov. i haven’t gotten anything out there in a while, so here’s this.
summary: it’s been years since you ran out on your high school boyfriend joe goldberg. now that he’s seen you again, maybe it’s time to find out if your instincts were right.
Tumblr media
+      +      +
There was a part of me that had forgotten about you. I would go months without thinking about you, but then the strangest things would conjure up an image of you or your name would ring in my ears for a moment or two before passing out again. So don’t make the mistake of thinking I forgot about you, Y/N. I never forgot. Not really.
We dated in high school, which doesn’t mean much at face value. High School relationships are the ones that are the most fragile when boys can’t control their own body parts and girls don’t seem to know the word ‘boundary’. The teen couples that come into Mooney’s are the worst relationships, where they hold hands and kiss every time they turn a corner. It takes all I have not to turn them away.
But we were… different. We were good, and we took it slow. I was quiet and you were sweet, and God, I don’t think I could ever recreate that high I would get when I walked into school and would see you waiting at my locker, reading some book I had given you or eating some breakfast dessert. We didn’t rush anything, we were slow and steady friends more than anything, at least before we kissed. And when we did kiss, it wasn’t bumbling or awkward like teenage kisses should be. It was perfect, Y/N. Like it was meant to be.
You know why I’m bringing this up. I saw you at some supermarket the other day, in LA. It wasn’t Anavrin or any of those frighteningly strict healthy eating markets. It was just some supermarket I went to in search of some food I had been thinking about, and I saw you in the cereal aisle. You didn’t see me, Y/N, although I wasn’t sure if you would have even recognized me. You had a box of ‘Cinnamon Toast Crunch’ in one hand and a box of whatever the generic brand was in the other. I watched you for a moment, turn the first box over, then the second, before sighing and adding the generic one to your cart. I turned my body so you couldn’t see my face as I waited, only turning once I was sure you had left the aisle the opposite way of me.
Trust me, Y/N, I almost couldn’t believe my eyes. I had to double-take to even think it was you, and then I ended up staring at you for a full five seconds before I remembered where I even was. A supermarket. In LA.
Really, the strangest part was that I had been in LA for around a month and hadn’t somehow caught wind of you. Sure, LA’s a big city, perfect for disappearing -- I should know -- but I have a sixth sense for these sorts of things. It helps that I’ve been trying to stay away from you, really, I stopped searching your name on the internet long ago and I’ve been trying to push you out of my mind.
Still --  I see in you in all of their eyes. Candace. Beck. Love.
Then you pushed your cart away from me and left behind the corner. I trailed behind you for a while, because how are you supposed to see your high school sweetheart and just forget about it? You picked out black beans and condiments, grabbed crackers and milk. Then you were gone.
But I knew you were in LA, and that got me through a while. I was distracted at work, distracted with Love. Even Ellie knew something was off, and of course, I couldn’t tell any of them about you, Y/N. I made up some lie about work or the news, but I couldn’t stop thinking about you. I wondered if you shopped every Tuesday afternoon if I would have a chance of seeing you again if I waited there next week. If you saw me first, would you interact? Would you know what I was doing and confront me or would you leave and hope that I didn’t see you? Would you see me at all?
No, I knew that I had to find you before then, preferably someplace where I wouldn’t look like some random creep approaching a pretty girl. I had to do my research.
I didn’t know whether to be impressed or disappointed when I discovered both an Instagram and a Facebook account that were both private. You were aware of security, at least a little. You had a public twitter account, but nothing you posted on there really pertained to you on a personal level, mostly retweets about characters or politics.
Roughly three weeks ago, you had retweeted some comedic tweet about the benefits of being single. This was a good sign, Y/N. My expectations were set low, but the more I learned about you, the higher they became. I couldn’t stop thinking about you, about our high school years, and how happy we both were. We could be like that again.
I was about to give up on the social media scour when I saw an Instagram account linked to your twitter account, completely different from the one I had already stumbled upon. This one was a much vaguer account, with some photos you must have taken, mostly of other people or of aesthetically pleasing nature views or buildings. The photographs that caught my eye the most -- and I’m sure you understand why, Y/N -- were the ones of Farmington Park and the one of a house front. The house numbers were blurred out, but it wasn’t that hard to trace around on Google Earth. I extended the view and followed the roads surrounding Farmington Park, making the assumption that you were near to it judging by the amount of photots you had posted of it, until I found the house that seemed the most familiar, the one that matched up perectly with the photograph. Bingo.
You should be more careful, Y/N.
✾ ✾ ✾
And so I wait. I see you again, but no longer by accident. I don my jacket and cap, and I wait at the bench near your house -- just a man reading a book, nothing anyone will pay too much attention to. I see you leave your house, which I’m relieved to see you walk out of. I’ve been wrong in the past, and it’s the worst possible feeling I could imagine. But you looked right at me, Y/N. The second day, you walked out of your bright red door and made direct eye contact with me. I have sunglasses on, so I don’t know if you can tell I’m looking back, but you stare at me for a few seconds, and then you move on. I worried you had maybe seen me, but the next day I returned and you didn’t think much of it.
Tuesdays and Thursdays is when you went to the park. As the sunsets, to get those stereotypical sunset photos, I presume, and you stay until late on Tuesday nights because you have Wednesdays off. It’s abandoned by the time it’s nine pm, the perk of small parks in big cities. So I waited until I was ready, until I thought you would be ready, and then I decided it was time to meet you.
8:42 on a Tuesday night, and I’ve never been more terrified before. I sit in the grass and watch you as the people slowly go home, watching you on your phone and messing with your camera. I notice for the first time, the green bracelet on your arm, which I recognize instantly, because I gave you that bracelet, Y/N. In high school, for your birthday. I gave it to you years ago, and you still wear it.
That almost gives me hope.
I had a plan. Once it was empty enough, I took off my hat and sunglasses, and I just sat there. You needed to come to me, to feel comfortable enough to do so. It was going to be an accident that I was here, nothing creepy. Nothing to feed your worries or stresses. I wasn’t a worry, I was a comfort that was reappearing after years and years.
When you saw me, your froze. You just stood there, unmoving and possibly unbreathing, frozen in a moment either now or in the past, mind racing and heart too fast. I waited for you, patiently. It was hard to not run up to you, to talk to you unprompted. But I had waited this long, I could wait a few minutes more.
Finally, you spoke. “What are you doing here?”
I looked up, feigning surprise. “Oh my God, Y/N,” I closed my book and stood up, smiling as if I had no idea you still existed. “What are you doing in LA?”
“Cut the bullshit. I saw you the other day. At least, I thought I saw someone that looked just like you, and now I’m pretty fucking sure that was you, Joe. This can’t be happening. This isn’t-” You trailed off, mumbling to yourself. Your were suspitious, but I could work with suspicious.
“You saw me? Seriously? Where was it?” I laugh as if I’m more confused than you are, still confused and surprised. Keep it up, Joe. Patience. “Why didn’t you-”
“Stop it. You were-” You stopped talking, your eyes widening a little at the absurdity of the situation. “You looked at me, Joe. I know you’re lying, so cut the bullshit. Be honest.”
I think it over for a minute. “I didn’t know if it was actually you or not.” I say, a little bit quieter. I feel like a kid again, and we haven’t even been talking for a minute.
“Honest,” You repeated. “I’m not new to your games, Joe. Where did you see me first?”
“The bus stop,” I say, maintaining eye contact. You give me your ‘bullshit’ look, and I realize nothing has changed. I almost smile before I remember what’s happening, that I need to work fast and convince you. I can’t lose you again, not now that I’ve found you. “The bus stop,” I reaffirm, before adding. “Nice bracelet.”
And I’ve changed the subject.
“I need to go home,” You say, sounding tired and frantic.
I take a step forward. “Let me walk you,”
“No, Joe.” You say loudly at first, and then repeat it a little softer.
“Please, Y/N,” I say in a tone that we both know is close to a beg. You look at me with those big fucking eyes and I hope I’m making the same expression back. The puppy dog eyes are something we’ve both mastered.
“Joe, I don’t love you anymore.” You say suddenly, and you throw your hands out to either side as if that’s it. As if that’s enough to satisfy me and it answers all my questions.
“Then why are you still wearing the bracelet?” I’m begging you now, pleading with you and I hate my own tone of voice.
You glance down at it as if you’ve forgotten about it. There’s a pause as you think for a moment, searching for words or for a lie. I’m frozen when I stand. “It’s not because I love you. It’s to remember.” You look up at me again, and your eyes aren’t just big anymore, they’re teary now. A part of me still wants to run to you, to tell you that it’s okay, but I know I can’t. “You killed me, Joe. Or you might as well have. I’m mourning her. I can’t forget her.”
Any act is long gone. We both know what you’re talking about, about all the conversations we had where you had tried to break up with me and I convinced you, about all the looks your had given me when I did something that would send off a red flag. “I didn’t, Y/N. I wouldn’t have. I was so careful with you.”
You look at me in a way I’ve never seen before. “I hid. I shouldn’t have had to hide. I changed so much about me, about who I was because I was scared you would find me somehow, I don’t know.” You run a distressed hand through your hair.
“Why? Why were you so scared of me, Y/N? I was just some kid in love. I loved you so much. I love you so much.” I take a step towards you.
You match it with one back, putting up a distressed hand. “Stop, Joe. Stop. I’m not doing this, okay? All of these things about you pointed to terror for me and I went with my gut because you hear all of these horror stories about girls and their boyfriends and it was better safe than sorry and-“ You sniff, wiping your nose with the back of your hand. You’re crying and I didn’t even realize it. “And I am sorry, Joe. I really am, but we both know that’s what I needed to do.” And you’re right, Y/N, and it would be a lie to deny it. I didn’t have to do anything to you and you knew who I was. No one has ever understood as well as you.
I am hurt as you look at me, somehow pained yet strong. “I’m sorry,” Is all I can manage out, and you don’t respond.
“I need to go home,” You say finally. “You do too, Joe. This is out there now, and we can move on. Okay? Don’t try to find me again.”
“But I can’t forget about you.” I don’t know if I’m making excuses or being honest anymore. For a split second, I think about lunging at you, grabbing you or striking you or something -- but then I remember that this isn’t just anyone. This is you. Candace, Beck, Love, they’re all modelled after you. I think that’s all I’m working for, is you again. Yet I respect you too much to treat you like them, and I love you too much to really let you go. I don’t know what I’m supposed to do anymore.
“Then don’t,” You look at me with calm eyes. “Then don’t forget about me. It’s better to remember, but to keep it somewhere just out of reach. It’s not like I could forget you, Joe. You were a part of my life,” You admit. “No matter how bad, you can’t forget something like that.”
And that’s all you need to say. No goodbye, no farewell greeting. You turn and walk away.
And I let you, Y/N.
For the first time in my life, I watch someone walk away from me, and that’s it. Out of everyone, I hate that it’s you leaving yet I’m happy that we ended it like this. I watch your wrist swing slightly as you walk, the stringy ends of the bracelet swinging along with it. I think of what you said, about remembering, and I know there’s some truth there. I’ve felt it before, the need to remember Candace and Beck long after I had thought they were gone. For them -- and for me.
But as you turned the corner for the final time, something in me pulls at my senses, telling me what I already know is true.  Your words ring in my mind one final time, but I know you’re wrong this once.
Sometimes, Y/N, it’s better not to remember, but to forget.

54. I’m not sure what you think I said, but you start calling me an asshole and whip a ruler at me and somehow, we both end up in detention
Indruck, sfw, please?
Here you go! Content note: spiders appear at one point.
I based some of this AU--namely the concept of the Crucible and how magic is channeled--on the Carry On series by Rainbow Rowell. And Duck is trans in this, because any good wizarding school is inclusive.
After three years at Amnesty Academy, Duck is used to the objects being magically propelled through the air. But a ruler zipping through the air and smacking the back of his head is a new, unpleasant experience.
He tracks it to two chairs to his left, the new third year with the silver hair. He hasn’t even been here a day, what the fuck the is his problem?
“Hey, what the hell man?”
“You know very well what.”
“Uh, no I don’t, and I don’t appreciate bein hit with a fuckin ruler!”
“The maybe think before you insult someone next time!”
“I didn’t fuckin insult you! I don’t even know your name!”
“Ahem.” Ned, their Charms professor, looks down at them reproachfully, “gentlemen, while I know the review of Zone of Truth is rather dull, I’d appreciate it if you didn’t entertain yourselves with mindless conflict.”
“Sorry, Ned.” Duck mumbles, sending his pencil shooting below desk level to whack the other guy in the leg at the exact same moment he whips his pen at Duck’s hand.
“OW!”
Ned sighs, “I hate to do this, but-”
------------------------------------------------
“Detention! Lovely, my first day here and I’m in trouble. Thank you so much, Duck Newton, for landing us here.”
“You started it!” He growls as they take their seats. God, he hopes this isn’t one of Woodbridge’s days.
“Huh, only two.” Mama wipes her boots on the mat, closes the door behind her, “Afternoon, Duck. And…”
“Indrid.” Says his nemesis, “It is nice to meet you Professor C-” he cocks his head, “you really prefer I call you ‘Mama?’”
“Yep. Never could get behind that more formal stuff. Let some of the first years call me ‘Ms. Mama’ if they really need to feel like they’re showin some deference.”
Mama is deputy Headmistress of Amnesty. The only reason she’s not fully in charge is that she’s not a witch and some families object to that. So The Quell technically runs the school while Mama does most of the actual day to day work. She also teaches a course of non-magic practical skills because, “some things you can’t magic your way out of. Like taxes.”
Duck loves her class and, while he doesn’t understand why someone would opt into this weirdness, he admires the guts it takes as a fifteen year old human to walk into a wizarding school and declare that there was plenty you could learn there even though you couldn’t so much as send a spark from your fingers.
As he and Indrid watch the clock tick down, Mama pulls a bag from her satchel. The contents are cookies, which she offers to each of them.
“Barclay tryin’ out new recipes?”
“Course he is. Kid is gonna be the best damn kitchen witch in the country by the time he graduates. Guess he’s plannin to spend the summer drivin around and learnin the food magic of different regions.” She smiles, “bet you’ll never guess who’s goin’ with him.”
“Joe?”
“Bingo. Apparently he wants to study niche cultural magic.”
Duck’s pretty sure there’s another motive; sharing a van bed with Barclay. It sounds fun, roving the country, discovering new places with someone handsome by your side.
All that’s by his side is a glower hiding behind red glasses.
“Mama? I, ah, would it be possible for me to leave five minutes early? I’m supposed to get my pairing from the Crucible tonight.”
The older woman looks between the two of them, “Better tell me how you landed here first. Ned just said it was an argument.”
“He threw a ruler at me outta nowhere.”
“It was not, you know what you said.”
“The last thing I said before you hit me was ‘“nah, man’ when Billy offered me a pizza roll from his lunch.”
Indrid goes still, “Oh. I, ah, I misheard you. I thought you said 'mothman.' I apologize. I ought to have given you the benefit of the doubt.”
He seems so suddenly downtrodden that Duck shrugs, “Yeah, you should have. But it ain’t the worst thing that’s happened to me here. Not by a long shot.”
“No kiddin” Mama leans back on the desk, “Two of you can go at five til.”
His evening turns uneventful after that; dinner, hanging out with Juno and Aubrey, half doing homework and half fucking around on his phone in his room (the agreement between the school and the government is that a long as the students don’t post vidoes of themselves doing sick stunts with magic, the government will ignore any explosions and/monsters in the vicinity of the school).
He’s never had a roommate; when the Crucible spat out his name in fire on his first day, there was no other name with it. Almost everyone else rooms in pairs or trios. So his belongings are strewn about the tiny cabin that makes up his home away from home. Which is why, when the door creaks open at ten p.m, he sits up and prepares to fire off a spell.
Indrid stands in the doorway, one bag over his shoulder and another in his hand. He looks tired.
“Hello, Duck. Ah, I guess that one is my bed, then.”
----------------------------------------------------------------
The class schedules for Amnesty are generated by the heart of the school itself. Indrid isn’t entirely sure what that means, but the heart must not be terribly creative. It stuck him in divination class. He’s been seeing the future since he was five, managing it with his drawings since he was eight. Even the professor has no idea what to do with him, since the images come in like a garbled T.V signal when he uses a crystal ball and the cup shattered when he tried to read tea leaves.
At least Barclay gave him a conciliatory caramel while they swept up the shards. It made him feel a bit better, though whether that’s due to enchantment or Barclay being exceedingly good at cooking is hard to say.
And now he has to go to “Magical Weaponry.” Magical Defense he understands; there are still lots of malicious forces out there, or even just everyday evils that it’s good to be able to ward against. Plus, Vincent is a good professor, enthusiastic and understanding.
Professor Minerva is just as enthusiastic but twice as loud. This is their first day in the actual gym, as opposed to at a blackboard, and his visions suggest it’s going to go poorly for him. As it should; he’s not a fighter, he’s a disaster.
At Amnesty, magic is channeled through objects. Most people use wands or their hands but some, like Aubrey, use jewelry (a necklace from her mother) or another accessory.
Duck Newton uses a sword. Or he’s trying to. The sword seems to be winning.
“Exert your will on him, Duck Newton, he answers to you!”
“I answeeer to only the capable.”
“Shut up, Beacon.” Duck adjusts his grasp, but nothing happens until he drops the sword and sends a spell through his fingers. The target explodes. Indrid suddenly feels a bit better about his own probable performance.
Duck notices him, indicates the practice area next to him is clear. While they started off poorly, his roommate is doing his best to demonstrate southern hospitality. He invites Indrid to eat with him, helps him when his visions offer no help in navigating the grounds, and even lent him a blue and green shirt (Amnesty's colors) for his first Spirit Day. Duck is the best thing to happen to him in his first month here.
By the time class is over, they have six broken targets, a shredded mat, and a knife that is now a very confused frog between them. They manage to laugh about it, even as Duck scoops up the amphibian and tucks him into his shirt pocket.
It’s then that Indrid realizes he has a crush.
--------------------------------------------------
“You comin to the game tonight?” Juno measures her sapling.
“Assumin nothin comes up and nobody’s tryin to kill me, you know I’ll be there.” He loves cheering Juno on during her soccer games (hey, not everything has to be magic based, even at a wizarding school).
“Drat.”
The hissed frustration draws his attention to the far end of the work table. Indrid is trying to coax his Venus Flytraps to perk up, but they remain brown and limp.
“Need some help?”
“Please, as you clearly know what you’re doing.” Indrid tilts his head towards the sapling pine tree Duck is working on. If he does his growing spells right, he’ll be able to take it home as a Christmas Tree during winter break.
“You tend to picture words or, uh,pictures when you do your spells?”
“Images work best. The trouble is that the futures sometimes make it difficult for me to picture a spell clearly.”
“What if I try describing how I’d see it and you picture what I say?”
“It’s worth a try.” Indrid closes his eyes.
“Okay. Think about the roots drawin water up from the soil, about the traps absorbin nutrients from prey. That brown is goin green as they do, they’re stems are growin stronger…” he grins as the plant turns bright green, it’s mouths open, “hey, ‘Drid, look”
“Oh!” Indrid flaps his hands, “it worked! Now I can keep them healthy and big andohno, nono not again.”
The table cracks and collapses as the plant turns gigantic, blocking out the light from the greenhouse roof.
“Holy fuck, that’s great!”
“Language, sport, but I agree.” Thacker, the head of the magical Horticulture classes, whistles as he looks the plant up and down, “this is mighty impressive Indrid. Wonder if we could use it on some pumpkins come fall…”
“I don’t recommend it, unless you want them to chase people.” Indrid points to one of the heads, which is swaying in the air and lowering closer to him. It snaps and he leaps back, falling to a pile of potting soil. Thacker raises his walking stick and the flytrap returns to its proper size.
Duck helps Indrid up, but his friend stays quiet through the end of class and on the walk back to their room.
“You know it ain’t anythin to be ashamed of, right?” Duck flips on the light, “we all fuck up spells now and then. Hell, Aubrey is on track to be the best spellcaster this school’s ever seen and she still has trouble.”
“But mine go haywire constantly” Indrid flops, dejected, onto his bed, “forget mastering my powers, I’ll be lucky if I graduate able to keep them in check. If I graduate at all.” His hand searches the bed blindly; Duck sets the weighted, plush bat into so Indrid can set it on his chest.
“What do you mean?”
“I’ve never lasted more than a year at a magical school. Or a non-magical one. I started at Mt Vernon when I was fifteen. Tried Deep Hollow and Shasta the year after that. I’m powerful but I can’t seem to channel it well, and three different schools decided I was more trouble than I was worth.”
“Bullshit.” Duck rests a hand on Indrid’s knee, “you’re strugglin with somethin; that means you need more help, not less. And if anyone gets it into their heads to kick you outta Amnesty, I’ll raise a goddamn ruckus.”
Indrid chuckles, quiet and disbelieving.
“I’m serious. You know Aubrey and them would side with me, and Joe knows school policy well enough he could probably find a reason why them tryin to get rid of you was against the rule.”
“Thank you.” Indrid’s smile is a rare flower, fragile and stunning.
“You want one of those calm-down caramels Barclay made?”
“Please.”
Duck grabs the box from the cabinet of their little kitchenette, then snags a Coke and a pineapple soda from the fridge. Indrid is no longer horizontal, is instead sitting with his back to the wall so Duck has space to join him.
Under the fizz of fresh bubbles, his friend murmurs, ‘“Have people really tried to kill you?”
“Yep. Someone sent an assassin after me my first year, and there was a Dire wolf on the grounds last winter that was clearly locked on to my scent. Perk of bein a Chosen One.” He grumbles as he swigs his drink.
“...Who on earth sends an assassin after a fifteen year old?”
“Right?! Fuck if I know, they never got any information out of the guy. Fuckin prophecy I swear, I didn’t even want these powers, let alone to be some kind of hero.”
“I sympathize.” Indrid rests his head on Duck’s shoulder, “there are prophecies around my birth as well.”
Duck clunks their bottles together, “To bein’ fucked over by stuff we can’t control.”
Indrid drains his soda, then perks up, “Oh! Oh dear, you should go if you want to be there for Juno’s match.”
“Come with me?” Duck can’t get the image of the two of them sharing a giant pretzel while smushed thigh to thigh on the bleachers out of his head.
His friend grins, “Of course.”
-----------------------------------------------------
Duck hoped, after his not-great time in middle school, that a magic academy would be asshole free. But no, there are assholes everywhere, and these ones have even more tools for tormenting their targets. He’s never been one, nor have any of his friends. The one time someone tried to bully Barclay, Dani sicked three spectral hummingbirds on them until they apologized.
Indrid, odd and new, is an easy target, though he seems to hold his own just fine (and his proximity to the most powerful witch in school does scare off many potential antagonists). But three guys in their Magical Defense class have zeroed in on him.
They’re standing in line to practice against an evil eye when Indrid’s glasses, the ones he doesn’t take off even when he sleeps, hit the floor by Duck’s feet. Duck scrambles to grab them before they get stepped on, wondering why everyone is making such a fuss. Then he turns and backs up in alarm.
An eight foot tall moth creature is where Indrid should be, red eyes wide and claws clicking together anxious.
“Who let that thing in here?” Someone yells from behind him.
Indrid’s antenna flatten.
“Fuck, wasn’t expecting him to be that big a freak” one of the bullies scoffs.
Black wings twitch.
“Newton, give him the glasses back so we don’t have to look at him!”
Indrid trills, upset, and leaps into the air at the same moment Aubrey yells, “that’s enough” and Vincent shouts a reminder about no flames in enclosed spaces and also detention for you three. Duck is to busy climbing out the window Indrid flew through to pick up the details.
One two-story fall later, he’s chasing a dark shape into the Monongahela forest. While the parts of the woods near his hometown of Kepler are non-enchanted, this chunk is magic down to the moss (he plans to write his final year project on how those halves of forest mesh on an ecological level). One of the worst aspects of the enchanted portions is their tendency to re-shape around travelers. His usual way around this is to have an unwavering sense of where he’s going and pretend the woods are giving him an unchanging path to get there. But that trick does fuck-all when he doesn’t know his destination.
After two hours of searching he’s no closer to finding Indrid, it’s getting dark, and he’s debating heading back to the school for help. He hasn’t been this deep in the woods since he fled the Dire Wolf, and he knows the deeper you go into the trees, the wilder the magic becomes. Bad news for him, even worse for his friend who's out there somewhere, upset and alone.
Eight gigantic eyes glitter at him from the dirt, and he quickly rearranges who has it worse right now.
Throwing a burst of light into the trapdoor spiders eyes buys him enough time to bolt to a tree and climb. As soon as it crawls free of its burrow he freezes; if he’s remembering right, they use vibrations to locate prey.
Fuck, that thing is the size of a VW Beatle. Why is that even a thing? No spider needs to be this big!
In spite of his stillness, it spies him and sets its forelimbs on the tree-trunk. There’s nothing else for it; he draws Beacon, pictures the spider shrinking, and casts his spell.
A soft crunch of leaves signals it hitting the ground, now an unremarkable size for an arachnid. Just as he steps down a branch, a second trap door opens and an enraged spider bursts out, looking for it’s friend. When it can’t find it, it turns and snaps its mandibles at Duck. This time, Beacon does nothing, no matter how Duck commands and curses as his eight-legged doom gets closer.
A crackle of electricity and then this spider disappears as well. On the other side of the trunk, red eyes regard him with worry, “are you hurt?”
“Nah, all in one piece thanks to you.” He holds out his hand, “you wanna head back?”
“Yes, please.” Indrid flaps to the ground, Duck following him on foot and then turning them towards campus, “you did not need to come look for me.”
“Course I did, not gonna let my friend get swallowed up by the forest. Oh, here” he holds out the red glasses, “you want these back?”
“Not just yet. That is, if this form is not too alarming to you.”
Duck takes in the glossy feathers, the charming ruff, the way the face is still obviously Indrid yet excitingly new, “I’m good.”
Light flickers from black claws, stars and flowers spinning out with ease, “It’s so much easier when I’m like this. I never foresaw my disguise charm being an issue, but the older I’ve gotten the more it seems to influence my ability to control my spells. But, well, you saw how people reacted. Even you were startled.”
“In my defense, I thought you’d been eaten by, well, you.” Duck casts the same spell, vines of light chasing the red flowers, “I’m still sorry, though. You ain’t horrible like this, ‘Drid; you’re fuckin stunnin. Never seen anyone as incredible as you.”
Indrid stops, looking down at him, “Do you truly mean that?”
Duck rises on his toes, pecking his cheek, “Yeah, I do.”
-------------------------------------------------------------------
The Halloween Formal is the most elaborate event at Amnesty. Indrid feels that if there’s any day he’s within his rights to be in his true form, it’s when everyone else is dressed as monsters.
He doesn’t have a date. He thought Duck was in the same predicament. Then his friend left before he was half-done grooming his feathers, saying he needed to get flowers for his hot date.
Ah well. At least Indrid will get to see him there and spend some time with his friends.
He checks his reflection in the gleaming black walls, orange and purple lights glowing and jack’o lanterns floating above his head. He adjusts his robes, the nice red ones his father sent him, and prepares to enter the ballroom.
“Hold up.”
When he turns, Duck is standing there in his black dress shirt and green tie, looking for all the world like he’s alone.
“You got one more thing to put on” He holds out a bracelet of flowers, sized to slip perfectly over Indrid’s hand. There are matching flowers pinned to one side of Duck’s hair.
“Oh. Oh my. You really-”
Duck uses a small spell to bend Indrid into a kiss; it’s a bit messy, since their mouths aren’t meant to fit together, but Indrid would not trade it for all the magic in the world.
“Yeah, ‘Drid, I really do.” With that, Duck offers his elbow and they walk arm in arm into the great hall.

Arranged Chapter 53 Dr. Joe Abernathy
AO3
She is snuck into Geillis’ car and lays down in the back seat. Jamie lays beside her. They are both very nervous. Were anyone to catch sight of them, they could lose their child and/or each other. Geillis drives them away making no sign that she has passengers.
When they enter the breeders area, she is able to breath. The sight of a pregnant woman is expected here. Not Claire, so she still stays down, but it is marginally safer. The office of Dr. Joe Apernathy is not to far away. Five minutes later she pulls into the underground parking lot. Parking close to the office door, she sits there around ten minutes making sure no one else was entering or exiting the building. Then they all exit, slipping into the back office door.
“Mr. and Mrs. McKenzie, I presume.” Dr. Abernathy is a tall black man with an easy smile.
“Aye. We are really…”
“Please no real names. What we are about is quite dangerous. The less I know, the better.” He turns to Claire. “Little momma, any concerning symptoms? Swelling in your face or hands, pain on urination, fluid leaking from your vagina?”
“No. None of that.”
“Grand. Have you felt the child move?”
“Just yesterday.” Geillis grins not knowing that.
“Wonderful. Let’s get your vitals, weight, urine, and, blood.”
“Weight? Uggg.”
“No worries little momma. Weight gain is healthy.”
“I know. It is just…”
All the tests are done. Her vitals are good, weight ( despite her fear) is perfectly within range.
“Now for the fun part. We will check the baby’s heart rate and get a first look.”
“We will see her!” Jamie is excited.
“You know it is a girl?”
“We both have a feeling it is.” Claire answers.
“We should be able to tell.” She is layed across the exam table. He measures her first. “ Twenty-two weeks. That sound right?”
“Yes. That sounds exactly right.”
“Good.” He lifts her shirt, tucking it up and under her bra. Jamie stands by her side and watches as the jelly is placed across her abdomen. “Lets see how the baby sounds.” A bit of maneuvering and the incredible sound of their child’s heartbeat fills the room.
“Oh my God!” He almost falls down as he clings to his wife’s hand.
“Amazing isn’t it?”
“It is the most wonderful sound I’ve ever heard.” Claire says as tears slip down her face.
“Now, let’s get a look.” He presses a button on the ultrasound machine and they can see their child. Awed, they stare as Dr. Joe takes measurements. He hums contentedly to himself so they assume they are all good. The baby’s face, hands, back, legs, drift in and out as he moves the probe around. “All measures well. A bit big but so is daddy. Now let’s see if we can see the gender.” A bit more movement and the child’s front was exposed. “Can you tell?”
“We were right.” Claire declares. “Right?”
“Just so. It is a big healthy girl.”
“Oh look at her!” Jamie just stares. Her face is them. His eyes. Her nose. Her cheeks. His ears.
“She is a beauty.” Geillis says. They had almost forgot about her.
“She is. The most beautiful lass ever.”
Dr. Joe chuckles. He prints out some pictures for them. “I want to see you back in a month. Sooner if you have a problem. Geillis will make the appointment but if you must call, use her name.”
“We really appreciate this. We know how dangerous it is.” Jamie says.
“Yes. But your wife and daughter need care. This entire system is insane. I can’t write you a script for pre-natal vitamins. But pick these up in any Drug.” He writes something on a regular pad. “They do just as well. I can tell you are eating right. Keep it up. I will see your child safely delivered. After that well I hope you have a plan.”
“We are working on one.” Jamie replies.
“Good. I truly wish you the best.”
They slip out like they came in and Geillis gets them safely home.

You sat on the dining table with your face in your hands in the little cottage near Rome that was owned by Joe and Nicky. You all came here after you had a mission that went well, but you were all really exhausted afterwards. Originally you wanted to stay here for a week and then leave to visit an old friend of you in London, it was still possible for you to have contact to your friends, you weren’t so old, but you were sure it could be only for one or two more years before they would notice that you weren’t aging. But now you were here for thirteen days already, because your friend was on sudden business trip and you had no other place to go.
But that wasn’t the reason you sat on the dining table with fingers in your hair and pulling on the roots a little rougher while you groaned loudly.
“What’s the matter, principessa?” You heard Nicky’s voice and flinched when he sat down next to you on the table. You weren’t aware that he entered the room and you lifted your head lazily.
“You seem very frustrated about something. Do you want to talk about it?” Nicky considered and you frowned. Nicky had a good knowledge of human nature and you weren’t in the mood to talk about your problems, so you just shrugged and your head sink down on the surface of the table.
“Maybe I can help?” Nicky suggested and you shook your head.
“No one could help me,” you muttered.
Nicky laughed about your answer. “For every problem there is a solution. But when you need help, you should tell someone if you want to solve the problem.”
You groaned again. “And how do you want to help me?” you snapped and felt instantly bad to get shirty with him. “I’m sorry,” you mumbled.
“It’s okay. I could search Andy, maybe it’s easier for you to talk to her,” Nicky continued to make suggestions and you burst out laughing in disbelief.
“Andy would tell me to stick myself together. I don’t think it’s a good idea. Then I would rather talk to you.”
“Why don’t you do it then?” Nicky smiled encouraging and you sighed.
“I can’t… it’s embarrassing,” you whispered and you didn’t dare to look in his eyes. He would probably laugh about it.
“Well, I’m sure I heard worse,” Nicky replied seriously with a sly smile. “Come on, Y/N, or I have to guess. I have a clue. You don’t need to be afraid; I’m not going to tell anyone, not even Joe.”
“What you aren’t going to tell me? You have secrets from me, my love?” Joe said playfully pouting from behind you and you groaned a third time burying your face in your hands.
“Is she okay?” Joe asked Nicky worriedly and you heard him moving a chair. He sat down and took Nicky’s hand in his.
“I’m not sure, amore mio, she doesn’t want to tell,” Nicky explained with a still serious voice.
“I’m still here, no need to talk in third person about me,” you grumbled and leaned back with crossed arms over your chest.
Joe laughed and tried to hide it as he clasped a hand over his mouth. “Why are you so mad? Is it your time of the month? Or what is wrong?”
You scrunched your face up in annoyance and turned your head away. “Stop your churlishness,” Nicky scolded him and bopped him playfully. “That’s a delicate topic.”
“Y/N, just tell us and we search for a solution or I just say what I think your problem is.” Nicky was giving you a last chance and you shook your head.
“I can’t be that worse. We can help out in every aspect. We are family, Y/N, we are there for each other,” Joe assured you, but you ignored him and made a huffing noise. You weren't mad with them, you were mad about yourself.
Joe looked helplessly to Nicky and you interpreted Nicky’s gaze, you were in a trap. He wouldn’t let go and you will feel embarrassed for the rest of your immortal life.
“Don’t worry, Joe, you didn’t say anything wrong. I think she’s simply sexual frustrated. I assume your friend in London is the reason for this dilemma and I know he’s too busy to spend time with you,” Nicky deadpanned and your eyes widened in shock. He was good, a good observer and you were trapped. Well, you could always leave, but he wouldn’t stop worrying about you. Nicky didn’t want to be mean or to offend you, but it was still awkward.
“That’s all?” Joe asked confused. “Well, you could visit him when he has free time again or just pick someone in a bar near here. The language shouldn’t be the problem.”
“I don’t like one-night stands,” you answered Joe back and didn’t want to meet his gaze. “Now the cat is out of the bag, but do we really need to talk about it?”
“We don’t have to, but you’re stressed and that isn’t healthy. You need something to release your stress. Did you try something else than sex? Boxing with a sandbag? Running?” Nicky proposed gently and you sighed again.
“I went yesterday and today for a one and a half hour run, but I don’t feel better.” You shrugged again and twirled a strain of your hair between your thumb and forefinger.
Nicky and Joe exchanged looks and you knitted your brow. “What do you have in mind?”
It wasn’t the way you thought the day would go. You talked two hours ago with your friend from London and he would be back on Saturday and you planned to take a flight on the same day. But until then you needed to survive four more days and you didn’t have an idea how to do this.
“Well, principessa, if sports don’t help and you don’t want to be with a stranger, your friend isn’t available anyway; you should maybe spend time with someone you know already.”
You were taken aback for a second and then you shook your head in disbelief. “And who? My only friend with whom this kind of arrangement is possible lives in London. My other friends are female or married.”
Nicky smiled conspiratorial and you quirked an eyebrow. You held your breath and braised yourself for what Nicky was going to say. You hoped he wouldn’t suggest that you should spend some time with Joe and him, because it would be very weird. You wouldn’t agree with this.
“Don’t panic, Y/N. I know you have a little crush, we saw your lingering and admiring gaze,” Joe explained with a mocking tone. But you panicked and whimpered a little. That couldn’t be true. Did they really think you have a crush on them? You couldn’t tell. Yes, you knew them for a while now, but you couldn’t figure out. You gulped nervously and looked at them, expecting the worst.
“I can assure you that your feelings are returned from your crush,” Nicky said with a smile.
“I hope we’re talking about the same person. Yes, I can’t deny that I have a crush on someone, but…” Your voice broke at the end and you bit your lip agitated. Nicky watched you and he noticed that you didn’t feel well with the conversation. He admitted that their words were mysterious and that it made you only confused.
“Oh, I’m so sorry. I thought it was obvious… I mean Booker,” Nicky explained hastily and your head fell forwards in relief, placing your hand above your heart.
“Oh god, I thought for the past minutes you meant yourselves,” you responded and laughed assuaged.
“With all my respect for you, I see you as a sister. I love you dearly, Y/N, but my heart only belongs to Joe.”
You nodded in agreement. “That would’ve been so weird.”
“Yeah, we're family, but there we make a boundary,” Joe chuckled and the mood lightened up slightly.
You were so anxious the whole time that you didn't realize what Nicky had told you about the feelings of your crush. “Were you serious? When you told me about… about… Booker's feelings for me. Why are you sure that he does like me?”
Nicky inclined his head and smirked. “He told me.”
“What?… When?… I mean he really told you that…,” you stuttered and couldn't believe his words, yet you knew he wouldn't lie to you.
“Booker… he got very upset… two months ago. That was last time when you left to visit your friend in London. He spoke about how you always run into your lover's arms and someday he will break your heart, because he grow old and you will be always young.”
“He isn't my lover or my boyfriend, we are just friends that, well, you know,” you clarified and Nicky nodded.
“We told him that you aren't in a relationship with him and then Booker said that your friend doesn't derserve you. It was impossible to imagine for Booker how your friend couldn't love you. And he said that he can treat you better, that you deserved to be loved.”
You were shocked and overwhelmed with emotions, to hear those words about Booker's feelings for you. He didn't just like you, he was in love with you, at least you hoped for it. You never imagined that he would return your feelings and you never noticed any sings that he felt mutual.
“Booker really cares about you,” Joe mentioned with a honest gaze to you. “I watched him the last eight weeks. On every mission he was close to you, he protected and always checked first on you. Also at home, he took care of you, looked after of you and tried to spend more time with you. I'm sure you're his priority.”
You got tears in your eyes and they rolled down your cheeks, angrily you wiped them away. You felt stupid that you wasted so much time in London, you could have something so much better.
“I understand why he never said something. I assume he thought that I'm not intersted in him, because I travelled so often to London. I didn't even see that he wanted to spend more time with me. I just thought he wanted to be nice…”
Nicky and Joe simply nodded and Nicky gave you a tissue for the tears.
“What should I supposed to do now?” You mumbled crestfallen and took a deep breath.
“Of course you should tell him!” Nicky exclaimed
“If it's not too late. He could reject me,” you complated the possibility he couldn't want you.
“You will never know if you don't try it,” Joe said convincing. You kne he was right and you nodded nervously.
“Where is he?”
“In the living room working on his laptop,” Nicky answered smiling and nodded towards the hallway that leaded in the living room.
Now or never, you told yourself.

anything for yuta please! he is so hot in the latest comeback i cRI
im having a break currently and BOY im so happy to write for you!!! +++ i’d like to take this opportunity to ask you all to stay safe and healthy!
Tumblr media
yall know what’s gonna happen. yes you’ve guessed it right i’m doing a strangers to lovers au
so let’s assume you look like your twin bc well…. you’re twins
BUT your twin is the popular twin, and you’re mediocre. AND you two go to separate schools
you’re going to an all-girls’ science school because your life is already hectic you don’t wanna make it anymore hectic with men
your sister goes to a nearby art school. so you know what that means; f r a t  b o y s.
also you’ve been knew that your sister is a bit of a player herself
like you’ve had boys coming to your house, crying, begging for your sister to take him back
nonetheless, though, you still love each other and depend on each other a lot
like, whenever you feel like getting a boyfriend, she’d help you out (even though your relationship ends up in flames about 3 months later because the boys you dated are all fratboys that couldn’t appreciate you enough). and in return you’d help her a lot with getting ready for dates or with her studies
so one day
you were in your school, watching a bunch of girls do a practice match of volleyball with another school because you were bored
then you got a text from your sister saying that she needed help and that it was a level-10 threat
i mean,,,, LEVEL 10? that has to be serious
so you dashed tf out of your school
by a few minutes, you’d arrived to your school
your first instinct was to go to her classroom
so you did
and then you saw a bunch of men hogging around your sister’s desk
so you were like?? wtf is going on
“what are you guys doi-”
before you could even finish your sentence, one of them yelled, “there she is!”
and another yelled, “get her!”
you were freaked??? first of all, you actually put in efforts in how you look today, you’re not about to let some crazy men ruin it for you
so you ran for your life
as you were running you wonder what your sister had done for these men to decide to kill her
thanks to your teacher for forcing you to join tons of cross-country runs, you managed to get away from them
you ran into a room and in the midst of panic you knocked onto something, and it all fell apart
you cupped your mouth
from what you can see, you probably knocked over some arts student’s sculpture
there wasn’t anyone, though, so you started looking around to hide before any art student walks in
as you were running towards what looked like a storage room, someone stepped out
he had blonde hair, and was just crazily handsome
but that wasn’t the point
he saw you, and then looked over behind you
“what the- hey! did you do that?” he asked
you weren’t sure if he was angry, or if that’s just his normal face, but eitherway he was really handsome
you looked behind you to the broken sculpture again,  and shrugged hesitantly
“may…..be…..?” your voice squeaked at the end
he gave you a look, before walking past you, “if you haven’t noticed i had been working on this for a very long time, asshole.”
his intonation wasn’t angry, but it still left a sting when he said that
you felt guilty
“i’m sor-”
“oh shut it, yuna, save that sorry for my friends that you’ve fucked.” he scoffed as he started cleaning up your mess
you were confused for a second, before everything clicked
he must’ve mistook you for your sister
you laughed awkwardly
“um, i’m y/n, not yuna” you said
he stopped sweeping, and then shot you a confused glance
“since when did you have a whole identity change?” he asked sarcastically again
you’re usually annoyed when people gave you an attitude, but you weren’t this time. maybe because you deserved it……?
“oh no, yuna is yuna. i’m her twin!” you smiled.
he stopped again, and looked at you
he clicked his tongue, and then stared at you from your head to your toe
“well…. you do have a better fashion sense than your sister.” he said
you didn’t know why, but you felt supeeeeeer happy when he said that
“i didn’t know yuna had a twin?”
“oh i go to the all-girls’ school a few miles away from here.” you told him
by now, he was done cleaning up the mess and was working on another sculpture
you wonder why he wasn’t SO mad at the fact that you literally broke a what seemed like months of hardwork
you walked over to the blonde, but he didn’t give you any reaction
“why aren’t you throwing a tantrum that i broke your masterpiece?” you asked
he gave you a glance before going back to his new sculpture
he shrugged, “i felt like it was ugly anyways.” he casually said
you nodded, and then just watched him work on his clay in silence
“so why are you here?” he asked, breaking the silence
you chuckled, “some boys are chasing my sister. i guess this is what she meant when she was having a level-10 threat.”
the guy chuckled too
“aren’t you gonna help your sister?” he asked
you shook your head, “she can handle this on her own. i’m sure her new jock boyfriend will help her out.”
“oh yea, i’m sure johnny will. everyone’s scared of him” he agrees
“you’re not so bad, y/n. i’m yuta.” he held out his hand - that had so many clay on it
it seems like he knew exactly what he was doing as he gave you a smirk to see if you were gonna shake hands or not
you took this as a friendship test - or something - so you took his hand
he made a playful look of disgust, “ew, can’t believe you took my hand like that.” he laughed
you’re pretty sure that was the first time that you saw him properly smile, and he had a really pretty smile too.
“your smile is so pretty….. i wish mine was like yours. when i smile i look like a goat.” you said as you simultaneously rested your face onto your clay-ed hand
“oh GOD!” you yelled, and made yuta laugh
“dumbass!” he claimed happily, before wiping a finger onto your nose
“HEY!” you yelled, and wiped some onto his face
yuta didn’t flinch, instead he was simply laughing
after a moment of laughter, he sighed softly, and then looked at you
“just between the two of us, you’re the better twin, y/n” he confessed, and  you giggled
he smiled again, and went on with his work
“how do i get these off my face by the way?”
he chuckled again, “you can’t” he joked
but your dumbass, who has never had experience with arts, believed him
so you were panicking
“what the- um… shouldn’t we get these off our faces?” you asked, nudging him
he shook his head, “i like it on mine. it’s a concept of van gogh’s.”
your heart was really gonna sink in your stomach, he didn’t have as much clay on his face as you did!
“that’s nice, but we should get it off our faces”
you said, nudging him even more
then, he burst out laughing again.
“you’re so funny” he told you
“you can’t be this clueless. of course the clay can be removed. just wash it with water later, idiot” he said, and shook his head
“oh” you said, a little bit embarrassed
then, you got a call
you fished your phone out just to see your sister calling
you signaled yuta to be quiet and he nodded
yuta didn’t have to hear your sister’s voice to know that she was furious at you
“wow! thank god, right? hope you don’t break his heart too.” you said sarcastically
yuta laughed at your snarky attitude
“yes i’m at your school, but a bunch of boys started chasing me thinking i was you.” you explained
“you know what? don’t come home if you’re gonna stay angry!”
you ended the call and turned back to yuta
“well, she’s mad.” you told him, and he nodded
“i love her and all, but she’s the most annoying, irritating, picky, selfish person ever when she’s mad.” you scoffed
“you can always sleep in the streets tonight” he joked
you gave him a look, and he looked away, still thinking it was a decent joke
“just lock her out,” he suggested
“i can’t, she has a spare key.”
“that’s tragic”
you nodded in agreement
“you can come over to my house if you’re comfortable enough” he winked when you looked at him
“but i bet you won’t do it, you look like you don’t have the balls to stay a night with a boy” he shrugged casually as he kept his eyes onto his sculpture
“bet.” you said, and he genuinely looked shocked
“what the hell, are- are you serious?” he stammered, which you found funny
“i mean, sure, why not?”
“aren’t you worried that i might be a serial killer?” he asked
you shrugged as you leaned onto the table in front of him
“so you’re my own version of joe goldberg? sign me up” you joked
he laughed, “you’re brave”
you let out a peace sign as a respond
“we should order in some pizzas tonight then, my treat!” he happily exclaimed
you had been staring at his face for so long - since you first met him
and you can’t help but call him handsome in your mind each time too
you weren’t really that much of a believer in love at first sight but come on, now. yuta has the looks, the talents, the personality, the respect, the humour. and to top all of that he’s got a bit of an attitude. he was screaming boyfriend material into your ears at this point
when he realised you weren’t giving out a response to a pizza night, he froze
“are you on a- um- are you on a diet? do you wanna eat something with low calories instead or-”
taken aback you immediately refuse, “oh my god, no, no! pizza is fine for tonight.” you told him
he let out a sigh of relief
“my ex used to freak out whenever i pick something to eat and it’s not up to her standards, sorry.” he explained
you rolled your eyes at the thought, “that’s plain annoying.”
he nodded in agreement, “it’s a different story if she had something to eat in mind, but no. she lets me decide and then throws a tantrum when i suggest something simple, or some shit like that.” he grunted
you chuckled seeing him annoyed
“hey, what time is it, by the way?” he asked
you opened your phone, and showed it to him, it read 7:48 PM.
“you wanna get going? talking about food is making me hungry.” he explained
you nodded, “me too.”
he started cleaning up his desk, and you helped him out
afterwards, the two of you went to wash the clay out of your hands and faces, yuta not forgetting to splash some water onto you while you were at it
the campus was dark and half-empty by then, some students were giving you looks for splashing water at each other, and you had to admit it was a bit embarrassing
“my house is kinda close to the campus, do you wanna walk or do you wanna take the bus?” he asked
you took a while to think, “since we’re gonna get fat tonight, let’s do some exercise beforehand.” you suggested, and he was fine with it
so you two started walking together
it all felt ethereal to you
the weather was great, it was windy in the right ways, the sky still had a hint of purple and pink to it
you had asked yuta a question that had probably excite yuta, because he was talking with full enthusiasts, and you were enjoying yourself seeing him so passionate about something
then, he absentmindedly swung an arm around your shoulder
and you’re just there like ‘OwO’
but you didn’t want to ruin the moment since he was still talking so passionately
so you acted like you didn’t notice it and carried on with the conversation
plus, you were lowkey (or highkey) enjoying his warmth. he’s a very warm person >:(
then, you two reached his apartment, which looked really nice
when you entered his apartment, it was a bit messy, but it was still pretty
you came to a conclusion yuta was a man of STYLE!!!!
“sorry if my place doesn’t live up to your expectations” he said, but you immediately disagree
“this is a really nice place!” you assured
he kinda gave off a playful look before sitting next to you on the sofa, “so if i were to bring you here on a date, would you like it?” he asked
you were taken aback by the question, but that doesn’t mean a smile wasn’t going to form onto your face
you immediately looked away, still having a hard time removing the grin off of your face
“i don’t know, you haven’t asked me on a date to your house yet.” you told him
he laughed, before poking his head onto your shoulder to see your reaction, “so you want me to ask you out on a lazy date?” he asked
you pushed him away, completely embarrassed, “bro like, shut the fuck up” you said playfully, which made yuta burst out laughing
“your reactions to everything are just so cute.” he told you before softly letting a sigh out
“thanks, we’ve been knew that i’m cute.” you joked
yuta made a disgusted face jokingly too, which made you laugh out of embarrassment
both of you took a really long time to finish off your meals becuase both of you were busy criticizing the shitty netflix series that you were watching
by the time both of you were tired, it was already 4 in the morning
neither you nor yuta could believe that both of you had been talking for that long
but it was undeniable that both of you were enjoying each other’s companies so much
at this point you were ready to propose to this man
but OBVIOUSLY you didn’t wtf
also, by now, you were both cuddled up by the sofa while tall girl was playing on the tv
“do you wanna watch another movie after this?” he asked, you nodded absentmindedly even though you were falling asleep
“how are we gonna get to school tomorrow?” you mumbled groggily
yuta was silent for a while and then he said, “let’s just skip tomorrow!” he suggested
you were falling asleep, yes, but the thought of skipping school excites you
you didn’t always skip school, but you wouldn’t turn down an opportunity either
“that’d be great,” you told him, before laying your head back onto his shoulder
“you know what, y/n?” he asked, you hummed as a response
“let’s go out on a date tomorrow.” he whispered, and then lied his head onto yours

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chapter One
Janet Fraiser was running late. She’d never understand how teenagers coud sleep so much! She struggled every morning to get her 14 year old out of bed. Every day was a constant struggle to be a good parent, especially hard when she was doing it alone.     She’d at least fed her daughter and dressed herself, an even bigger victory when they seemed to be on time. It wasn’t until they were halfway to school that Cassie realised that she’d forgotten her entire bag and so they had to turn around and now Janet was running half an hour late and she’d not even had her morning coffee yet.
She pulled her pickup into the staff parking behind the store, fumbling for her shop keys as she raced toward the door where her Vala was waiting.     Vala was taller than Janet by a mile and the two couldn’t look more different; besides the height difference, Janet had auburn, borderline red, hair that she very rarely left down when she was working whereas Vala had dark locks that almost reached her waist, a waist that was often exposed or at least accentuated by various leather garments. Janet’s smaller frame meant that her body was curvier than the other woman’s and she certainly seemed to dress more practically than Vala, choosing to stick to jeans and a cozy cotton turtleneck.     “I’m sorry, I know I’m late again…” She unlocked the door and let the other woman in before her.     “No, no, that’s fine, dear, I only just got here. Trouble with Cassie again?”     “Mm, teenagers.” Janet ran a hand through her hair and pulled it into a ponytail, securing it with an elastic band from her wrist as she looked around the tiny studio. She’d opened ‘Pins and Needles’ two years ago in an attempt to finally do something for herself. She’d quickly come to realise that maybe she was in over her head; being a single mother and the only artist/owner of a tattoo parlour was practically impossible.     Thank god for Vala. She had been passing through town - all tattoos and attitude, fresh out of her apprenticeship - got herself into some trouble and then never seemed to leave. They’d hit it off immediately, though, with two women as feisty as they were, there was bound to be chaos, not to mention that between Janet constantly being late because of a stubborn teen and Vala just struggling with time management, they wouldn’t get anything done if they hadn’t scheduled their working hours earlier than they needed to be. The store didn’t open for another hour but there was always something to set up or sanitise and that also meant there was time for coffee.     “Did you see that they finally got someone into that store across the street?” Vala set her bag into the cupboard and plopped down into the nearest chair, producing a bagel from god knows where to nibble on. Janet looked up from the till she was now counting, only now taking notice of the new coat of white paint that had given life to the old building across the road. “About time, too,” Vala continued. “Mr Yang kicked the bucket months ago. I wonder if there’s going to be any handsome boys working there...”     Janet shot her friend a look and closed the till draw, tearing off a receipt for the books and storing it in a folder under the desk. “I’m going to get a coffee. Can you get set up?”     Vala sat up and waved a hand at her dismissively. “Oh oh, say hi to Danny for me, will you?”     The other woman couldn’t help but laugh as she rolled her eyes. Vala was very popular with a lot of the men around here; she loved the attention but what she loved even more was a man playing hard to get. Not that Janet was sure Daniel was playing hard to get or just too naive to realise that the woman wanted to rail him into next week.     ‘The Lord of the Beans’ was an unassuming shop; tucked between a grocery store and a newsagent, the bookstore come coffeeshop didn’t do much to put itself on the map. The storefront sported the original tall windows but piles and piles of books blocked the warm spring sun from penetrating the dungeon like atmosphere. Not that the place was unwelcoming; anything but! Daniel Jackson owned the place, a man who looked as humble as his store. He was handsome but he definitely didn’t know it, hiding his slim frame in oversized sweaters and with a mop of light brown hair draping his face. It was only him that worked there and he never seemed to take a day off; he seemed most content to sit in his den of old books and interesting artifacts, as if the store was built solely for his enjoyment.     Janet wiped her boots before she stepped into the shop, being hit suddenly by the smell of fresh cinnamon scrolls and ground coffee.     “Morning Daniel,” She greeted warmly as she placed her $10 note on the counter, the man poking his head around a bookshelf. He smiled when he saw her and, setting down the book he was inspecting, he rounded the counter and started working on her latte, ignoring the money.     “Hey! How’s my only customer this morning?” They shared a smile; he wasn’t exactly telling the truth but he definitely didn’t get enough traffic to keep him in business. She’d found out not long ago that he wrote articles for history journals in his spare time and apparently, he was quite good at it. That would explain how he stayed in business.     “In need of my favourite barista’s magic bean juice.” She leaned her hip against the counter, wiping her hand across the cover of an old ‘Chaucer’. “Cassie’s going to a friend’s sleepover this weekend so I’m looking forward to some ‘mummy’ time.”     The man passed the paper cup over the counter to her, nodding out the window at the new store. “Have you, uh, been over there yet?”     “To the florist? No. Just got in.”     “I saw her park her bike in front of the store when I got in...she looks like your type, you know.” Daniel took a sip of his own coffee, giving her that look over his glasses. It wasn’t a secret that Janet was a bisexual - she didn’t flaunt it but most of her friends at least assumed, with the tattoos and the pickup truck.     “Daniel Jackson, are you trying to set me up?” A laugh of disbelief left her before she could help it but she was still looking out the window at the florist.     “I’m just saying...someone needs to go say hi, at least before Jack does.”     She looked back at him quickly and he shrugged, pushing his glasses up his nose.     “You’ve got a point. We can’t have Jack scare her away on the first day… Can you make me another latte and I’ll go take it to her? Get you a little advertising while I’m at it.” She shoved the money into the tip jar while he started on the other coffee.
It wasn’t normal to be this nervous; it was just a fellow business owner, right? She hadn’t even seen the woman yet. She probably wasn’t even gay, despite what Daniel said about her motorcycle. The store had been repainted from the garish red that used to be the asian grocer to a nice, bright white and immediately, Janet was hit with the smell of flowers, a pleasant smell except for the fact that spring disagreed with Janet. She thanked whatever powers that be for antihistamines and stepped into the partially opened door. There were boxes everywhere, some empty, some stacked precariously on top of each other; a long shelf lined the front window, a few healthy looking plants basking in the sun. There was a litter of empty coffee cups on the front desk and Janet suddenly felt a bit silly. SHe almost had the mind to turn and leave when the door bell finally announced her entrance. A head of blonde hair poked up from behind the counter, blue eyes wide with surprise.     “Oh, I’m sorry, I’m not open for a few more days yet.” She seemed flustered and Janet smiled at the woman, holding up the coffee for her to see.     “I work over at the tattoo parlour. I saw someone had moved in here and I wanted to say hi.”     The woman stood, all long legs and a bright smile as she dusted soil from her hands. “Oh, hi!” She held out her hand to Janet. “I’m Sam.”     Janet shook her hand, trying not to pay attention to the woman’s short nails and cuffed blue jeans and white tee with the sleeves rolled up.     “Janet.” She let go of her hand and offered the cup of joe. “I brought this over for you but I see you’ve had a lot already…”     “Oh god, no, I’ll always have another.” She flashed a dimpled grin at the woman Janet felt herself falling already. “Thank you. That’s really nice of you.” Sam took a sip of the coffee and hummed. “That’s good coffee!”     Janet smiled at her enthusiasm. “It’s from ‘The Lords of the Beans’; Daniel may be a little antisocial but he knows coffee and he knows books. He’ll chew your ear off about aliens if you let him.”     Sam laughed gently, looking at the mess around her. “I’m running behind with all this but maybe later, you could show me around the town?” She said it so innocently that Janet wasn’t even sure if it was supposed to sound flirtatious. Not getting her hopes up and definitely not mentioning that there wasn’t much to see in town, she smiled back at her.     “Of course. Just swing by whenever you’re free and I’ll take you for a tour.”     “It’s a date!” The blonde grinned and got back unpacking her boxes as Janet saw herself out. God, she felt like a teenager again. She didn’t have too long to daydream about the new florist because Vala was waving at her from the shop window and she was reminded that there was only 20 minutes until opening. She finished her coffee, dumping the empty cup before she headed inside, finally feeling human enough to get to work

After School Special
“So?” Dean asks.
Sam shrugs. “I think she's telling the truth. I mean, the way she talked about being there mentally but not physically -- kind of sounds like demonic possession to me.”
“Kind of?” Chase asks. “How is it kind of a demon possession?”
“She didn't see any black smoke or smell sulfur,” Sam explains.
“Maybe it's not a demon. I mean, kids can be vicious,” Dean says.
“Yeah, they’re terrifying,” Harley says.
“You were one of those terrifying ones, Harley,” Chase laughs. “I’ve heard the stories.”
“Well, I mean, we're already here. Might as well check out the school,” Sam suggests.
“Right, the school,” Dean says shortly.
“What?” Sam asks.
“Truman High, home of the Bombers,” Dean says with distaste.
“What’s your point?” Chase asks.
“I mean, we went there, like... for a month a million years ago. Why are you so jazzed to go back?” Dean asks.
“We were only there for a month, so why are you so opposed?” Chase asks.
“Because it’s school and we have a connection to it. Why should I want to go back?”
“It’s worth looking into,” Sam points out.
“All right, well, what's our cover? FBI? Homeland Security? Swedish exchange students?” Dean asks.
“Yes, Dean, because you, a thirty year old grown ass man, can pass as a high school student. From Sweden.”
“Do you even know Swedish?” Harley asks.
“Don’t worry,” Sam says. “I have an idea.”
“That’s worrisome,” Chase says.
“How?” Sam asks defensively.
“Because it’s you. And I don’t trust either of you,” Chase says, pointing at the boys.
“Do you trust me?” Harley asks.
Chase regards her with a cautious look. “Only on Tuesdays.”
“So, Sammy, what’s this idea of yours?” Harley asks.
Sam shoots Harley an annoyed look. “It’s Sam. You know it’s Sam.” He shakes his head. “Whatever. So, get this.”
***
The Impala drives up in front of a large school, Truman High School boldly proclaimed on the building’s entrance. Dean, Chase, and Sam climb out of the back, backpacks tugged around shoulders, wary looks on their faces.
“Thanks, Dad,” Dean says, taking lead and walking in front of the younger Winchesters. “You two got your books?” Dean asks them. “Lunch? Butterfly knife?”
“Yeah, Dean,” Sam says, rolling his eyes.
“You two are being quiet. You okay?”
“Sure,” Sam says at the same time Chase answers, “Better than your face.”
“My face is beautiful, okay?”
“Sure.”
“Seriously, you okay?”
“Sure,” Sam repeats with emphasis.
“Sammy…” Dean starts.
“I mean, look, this is the third school we've been to this year, and it's only November. I'm just sick of always being the new kid.”
“It does kind of suck,” Chase agrees. “I’m never able to make friends. No one wants to be friends with the freak who doesn’t know how to keep quiet, and if they do, I can’t keep contact with them longer than a couple weeks.”
“Who needs friends when you have us?” Dean smirks.
“You’re boys. I can’t exactly talk to you about all my problems, Dean.”
“And people pick on me!” Sam exclaims.
“You'll be fine. If anyone gives you any trouble, you let me know. Relax. Dad said this hunt will take him two weeks, tops. As soon as he gets back, we're out of here.”
“To another school. Awesome,” Sam says, tugging his backpack tighter to his body.
Once separating from her brothers as they each go to their individual classes, Chase finds herself alone in front of the classroom, twenty pairs of eyes staring her down. Judging her. Inspecting her.
God, she hates teenagers.
“Is there anything you want to tell us about yourself, Char-”
“Chase. My name is Chase Winchester. Please address me as such.”
“Of course,” the teacher hesitates, unused to being talked to by students like that, but she continues quickly. “Well, go on and tell us three facts about yourself.”
Chase turns to the class, a half smile on her face. “Hi! I’m Chase. I like learning but hate school, love cats, and fighting.”
“What kind of fighting?” A boy in the back of the class asks.
Chase looks to the teacher out of the corner of her eye, only to be encouraged by a wide smile.
“Y’know,” Chase mumbles, suddenly shy. “Like fist fighting and shooting and stuff.”
“Shooting? Like guns?”
‘Great, Chase, go ahead and label yourself the freak. Why didn’t you say something normal?’
“Uh,” Chase stalls for time. “Yeah? My dad takes me and my brothers to the shooting range.”
“That’s great, Chase! Go ahead and take your seat.”
Chase does so quickly, face slightly red from embarrassment, and pulls out a notebook, hastily busying herself so she can avoid questions and eye contact.
***
Harley’s students enter the class room. “Hello everyone, I’m Ms. Wyllt. Today we will be joined by Ms. Scourie and her 3rd period Creative Writing class. You’ll be grouped together in fours, and yes, you can choose your partners.”
A wave of excitement rushed through the class. “You’ll be writing your own unique scenes and acting them out! This project will be due two weeks from now.”
A knock comes from the classroom door, and Harley goes to open it revealing Chase and her class. Everyone enters the theatre room and Chase and Harley go off on their own.
“We’re like the best teachers ever,” Harley says, seeing best friends pair up immediately.
“We are,” Chase agrees.
***
High school was an interesting place for Harley. It was simultaneously the worst and best years of her life. She was depressed and suspended from school, but she found someone who she would give anything, just for her to be happy. She found a daughter. The light of her life and her best friend in the universe.
She found a wonderful friend group who she would die for. Discovered music and made many a memory. At this specific moment she was remembering staying the night at Adina’s.
They were in her basement, Adina was giving Harley a stick and poke of a treble clef.
“Does that hurt?” Adina asks.
“Honestly, this is the most relaxed I’ve ever been. Maybe it’s the sauna, maybe it’s being out of the house, or maybe it’s you. I don’t really care, I might fall asleep before you finish,” Harley responds.
Adina laughs.
“I love you.”
“I love you too.”
“I’m adopting you. You are now my child,” Harley says mostly serious with a hint of joking.
“Okay?”
“I’m serious, you are the light of my life and you make being alive worth it.”
“Aww, thanks!”
“Any time.”
***
Winchesters and Co. sat in the teacher’s lounge eating sloppy joes.
“So, Harley and I are the best teachers.”
“Why, what’d you do?” Dean asks, mouth full.
“Dean, really?” Chase asks. “You’re a pig.”
“Sounds like one at night too,” Sam laughs.
“I mean not really,” Harley defends.
“Yeah!” Dean exclaims. “It’s Chase that’s bad!”
“I’m not that bad!”
“None of you are bad or I’ve just gone deaf?” Harley says unsure.
“Deaf. Definitely deaf,” Sam says. “These two are both awful.”
Chase sticks her tongue out at her younger brother.
“So, Sam, did you find any sulfur?” Harley asks.
“I've been over the entire school twice. No sulfur,” Sam answers.
“No sulfur, no demon. No demon, no case,” Dean states.
“I don't know. Maybe I was wrong.”
“Well, it happens to the best of us. I say we hit the road, huh?”
“Fine by me,” Harley adds.
***
“How’s the nonviolence school assembly going?” Sam asks, as though joking.
Chase smacks his arm.
“What?” Sam asks. “Too soon?”
“Yes, Sam. Too soon.”
“Apparently, shoving a kid's arm into a Cuisinart is not a ‘healthy display of anger.’ So, the kid had ectoplasm leaking out his ear?” Dean asks.
“Which only comes from a really pissed off ghost,” Chase says.
“It’s got to be ghost possession,” Harley concludes.
“Yeah, but that’s pretty rare,” Dean hesitates.
“Yeah, but it happens. I mean, they get angry enough, they can take control of a person's body,” Sam says.
“Alright, so what, we got a ghost in the building?” Dean asks.
“Yeah, but where? I mean, there's no EMF. Maybe we could find out who it is, at least. You know, check and see if somebody died bloody around here or something.”
“Way ahead of you. I had to break into the principal's office to get this. Oh, and FYI, three of the cheerleaders are legal. Guess which ones,” Dean smirks, pulling a paper out of his pocket.
“No,” Sam deadpans.
“Oh!” Chase exclaims. “Is the cute black haired one with the hazel-y green eyes?”
“Yes,” Dean smiles, giving Chase a high five.
“Knew it.”
“I love you,” Harley laughs.
“Why thank you,” Chase and Dean chorus. They turn to each other. “She was talking to me! No, she wasn’t. Yes, she was!” They turn back to Harley. “Harley?”
“I love when y’all talk at the same time.”
“That doesn’t answer our question,” They both say. They turn to each other again, but say nothing, opting to stick their tongues out at each other instead.
“Are you sure I’m the youngest?” Sam sighs.
“Pretty sure, Sammy,” Dean says.
“Moving on,” Sam replies.
“So, there was only one death on campus. It was a suicide back in '98. Some kid named Barry Cook,” Dean notices Sam’s face fall, “What?”
“I knew him. How did he die?”
“He slit his wrists in the first-floor girls' bathroom.”
Harley swats Dean on the arm, “Even I have more tact.”
“And that’s saying something,” Chase mentions.
“Right where the chick got swirly-ed to death, exactly. So, what? This ghost is possessing nerds?”
“And using them to go after bullies,” Harley adds.
“Well, is that something Barry would do?” Chase asks.
“Barry had a hard time,” Sam says.
“Didn’t we all?” Chase asks.
***
Chase walks down the hallway, shooting a smile at her brother, Sam, who is walking with a boy his age. He waves back to her. ‘At least he made a friend,’ she thinks to herself.
Unlike her at that moment. Ever since her slip up in her first period, all of the girls avoided her, and the boys only talked to her if they wanted to make fun of her. Well, for the most part.
“So, are you sure you don’t want to go out sometime?” a boy in her science class, (Lucas?) asks her.
“For the last time, no. I’m not interested,” Chase says, opening her locker and putting her books away. She grabs her textbooks for the next class, pointedly ignoring Lucas (Definitely Lucas, Chase thinks).
Lucas grabs her wrist, pulling her towards him. “C’mon, one date.”
“I said no. You have one second to let go of me.”
“Not until you say yes.”
“One,” Chase says. Lucas has enough time to narrow his eyes in confusion before Chase’s fist meets his face.
***
“You punched him?” The vice principal asks.
“Yes,” Chase responds, not missing a single beat.
“And you say the only thing he had been doing was holding your wrist? Because he wanted to get your attention?” He looks down at the written report of the situation, which both students had to write.
“No,” Chase says, confused. “He wasn’t just holding my wrist. He was touching me without my consent. And he had my attention. He just didn’t like my answer.”
“You could have pulled away.”
“I tried to, but-”
“I’m sorry, Miss Winchester, but violence is not the response to unwanted attention. I know you’re new here, but this is your only warning. If something like this happens again, you’ll be suspended. For right now, however, you have detention everyday for two weeks and you have to have your guardian sign this copy of the report.”
“But this report says I punched him, but doesn’t say what he did.”
“Because what he did was not enough to warrant a report. What you did was.”
“Bullshit.”
“Language. Last warning. Suspension is on the line. Now, go.”
***
“Hey,” Harley greets her mom.
“I love you.”
“I love you too.”
“You got suspended.”
“That’s bullshit. I’m suicidal, that’s not exactly against the rules.”
“You did mention jumping down the stairwell.”
“I know, but it might not kill me. I want to know I won’t come back.”
“Claire,” Harley’s mom sighs.
“I just want to be done. I’m so tired of living.”
“I know.”
“What’s wrong with me? I have so little empathy. Or sympathy? Whichever one it is. And the voices never shut up always, always, always telling me to kill, kill, kill. And I want to. I want to hurt people. To see them scream. I want to watch the light leave their eyes and hear that final breath escape. I want to feel the warmth of their blood across my skin.”
“They’re just thoughts, Claire.”
“They’re not though. They’re voices and feelings. They’re primal urges that I have so much trouble controlling. They’re proof I’m a monster.”
“You aren’t a monster.”
“Then why do you insist on me eating raw steak instead of buying me blood?”
“Because drinking blood is evil.”
“But I need to do it to survive. So doesn’t that make me evil?”
“No.”
***
The four hunters, each pair in their own vehicle, drive to the graveyard where they know the remains of Barry Cook lie. The air is thick with tension in the Impala, while the girls don’t think much of the situation.
“So, after this, you want to get pie?” Chase asks.
“Umm… Duh?” Harley answers.
“Do you want to invite the boys or do you want to avoid Dean still?”
“I think Dean and I are fine, I mean he hasn’t said anything since we talked it over.”
“That’s good. I was about to suggest couple’s therapy.”
“We aren’t a couple.”
“Close enough,” Chase waves her hand, shrugging. “Anyway, we’re almost there. I don’t know about you, but I don't want to dig up a grave. How do we get the boys to do it for us?”
“Rock, paper, scissors?”
“Coin toss?” Chase pauses. “No, I like rock, paper, scissors. I always know how to win against Sam. He always does rock.”
“And Dean always chooses scissors.”
***
Sam and Dean dig where the grave of Barry Cook is, while the girls watch in mild amusement.
“Why did we agree to this?” Dean asks.
“I didn’t,” Sam says.
“Less talking, more digging, boys,” Chase calls to them. They both turn to look at her with a bitch face, before turning back to the dirt. Suddenly, two shovel-fulls of dirt fly through the air to land on Chase, most of it getting in her hair. “You bastards!” she swears, spitting dirt out of her mouth.
“Less talking, more digging,” Dean says.
“And we’re digging,” Sam finishes.
Eventually, after about an hour, there’s a loud clunk as a shovel hits the hard wood of a coffin.
“Okay, our turn,” Harley says, nudging Chase forward. Chase grins and takes a matchbox out of her pocket.
“That smile means we should definitely never trust you with fire,” Dean says as the boys climb out of the hole.
“Oh well,” Chase shrugs.
Harley pours salt and gasoline on the remains, while Chase  lights a match, her grin growing in width.
Dropping the match, Chase and Harley step back as flames leap into the air. The smell of charred bones and flesh and gasoline looms over them as the four hunters walk away from the scene. Going back into their individual cars, the group is quiet.
***
Jack and Baby were parked on a hill a little ways away from a bridge. Sam is shirtless because Harley is sewing up the stab wound he sustained from a girl possessed by the ghost.
“Only you are nerd enough to get stabbed by a compass,” Chase scoffs.
“Compass? Compasses can’t do that,” Dean says.
“A math compass, Dean. As in, an instrument to draw circles.”
Dean pointedly ignores Chase. “Here, this will make you feel better,” he says. Sam nods, taking the beer. “That ghost is dead!” Dean practically growls. “I’m gonna rip it’s lungs out. Well,” he pauses. “You know what I mean.”
“You do realize the most we can do is put it to rest,” Harley points out continuing her work.
“It knew my name, guys. My real name. We burned Barry’s bones. What the hell?” Sam says.
“Maybe we missed something. We could have been wrong about Barry,” Chase says. “We just got to go back.”
Dean, looking through paperwork, suddenly gasps. “No way, how did we not see this before?”
“See what?” Harley asks.
“Check it out -- Look, Martha Dumptruck, Revenge of the Nerds, and Hello Kitty -- they rode the same bus.”
“Okay, so maybe the bus is haunted,” Sam suggests.
“Well, that would explain why there's no EMF at the school, but not the attacks. I mean, ghosts are tied to the places that they haunt. They can't just bail.”
“Actually,” Chase starts.
“Actually,” Dean mimics in a high pitched voice. No one laughs. Chase gives him a look, unamused. Dean sighs, “Continue.”
“Actually,” Chase says again, emphasizing the word and shooting Dean another look, “there's lore about spirits possessing people and riding them for miles, then whenever they leave the body, they're bungeed back to their usual haunt. But until then, the ghosts can go wherever they want.”
“So a spook just grabs a kid on the bus and walks right into Truman?” Dean asks, not convinced.
“Well, yeah,” Chase says.
“Ghosts getting creative -- well, that's super,” Dean says sarcastically.
“Sounds possible,” Harley says, agreeing with Sam and Chase.
“You’re supposed to be on my side!” Dean pouts.
“I’m on my side,” Harley says, sticking her tongue out at him.
***
“Do you see anything?” Chase calls to the boys, who are inside the bus.
“It’s definitely not clean,” Sam responds.
“Here, ghosty, ghosty, ghosty! Come out, come out, wherever you are!” Dean calls.
“Yes, Dean, because saying ‘Here, ghosty, ghosty’ is sure to make it appear. Maybe it’s Casper the friendly ghost!” Chase says in a heavily sarcastic tone.
“Or the Boo Brothers,” Harley adds.
“Got anything better?” Dean asks, before adding, “Nice one,” at the end of his statement.
“Man, I don't get it. No one ever died on this bus, and it's not like there's a body hidden in here,” Sam says.
“Or is there?” Chase asks ominously.
“Yeah, but a flap of skin, a hair, I mean, hell, a hangnail -- something's got to be tying the ghost to this place. We just got to find it.”
“I really hope it’s not a hangnail,” Harley says.
“I dunno,” Chase says. “Hangnail’s better than a ‘flap of skin’.”
“I’d rather deal with the skin, thank you very much.”
“Got a new driving permit. Issued two weeks ago,” Dean says from the front of the school bus. The girls go over and peer at the papers in Dean’s hand.
“Isn’t that just before the first attack?” Chase asks.
“Yeah,” Dean says. “Name of the bus driver is Dirk McGregor Sr., 39 North Central Avenue.”
“McGregor?” Sam asks.
“Yeah, why?”
“I knew his son.”
“Did you know everybody at this school?” Dean asks.
“How’d you remember his name?” Chase asks incredulously.
“And his last name, at that,” Harley adds.
“Just because your guys’ attention span is that of a gnat and your memory like a goldfish, doesn’t mean I can’t remember things.” He pauses. “Besides, do you not remember anyone you went to school with?”
***
Harley spent her Valentine’s Day junior year watering a bouquet of purple roses from every water fountain she could find. Everyone wanted to know where she got them and every time she had the same response, “They’re for Julia.”
She was careful and tore off every faulty petal in order to make sure the bouquet was perfect. It was at the end of the day when she finally could give Julia her gifts. One of which was a card asking her to be Harley’s girlfriend.
“Hey,” Julia says.
“Hey,” Harley responds.
“I adore the card.”
“I’m glad. So what’s your answer?”
“I really don’t want you to feel like I’m stringing you along, I’m moving in four months, back to Washington. I just don’t want to get attached and hurt you.”
“It’s fine, I might move too, but who’s to say we can’t make the most of the time we have here?”
“I just don’t want to waste time on something if I know it has a deadline. You know? I still wanna be friends.”
“Yeah, I guess, do you mind if I take a day or two though?”
“Take your time. I’m here though.”
“Thank you,” Harley says before leaving as her heart silently breaks.
***
“So that’s it then,” Chase says, disbelief written on her face.
“Well, yeah,” Nathaniel says.
“You’re just done. With us. With everything?” Chase’s voice is drenched in desperation, as though if she argued her way through it, he’d change his mind.
“There isn’t anything there anymore.” Nathaniel’s face is like stone- like always. His blue eyes guarded, mouth in a thin line.
“Well, you could’ve fucking told me that in the beginning instead of leading me on!”
“I never led you on!” Nathaniel says, finally showing some semblance of an emotion, causing a surge of pride in Chase’s chest. Not many people were ever able to get under his skin, let alone in a way for him to care enough to defend himself.
“Then what do you call two days ago? Saying you liked me. Spouting that bull about talking to my dad and brothers!”
“I just decided that this isn’t working out.”
“Decided,” Chase repeats. “Decided? You don’t just decide these things, Nathaniel. They’re emotions! You can’t just flip off your emotions like a switch!”
“I didn’t. I’ve felt like this for a while.”
“Oh, so we’re backtracking to the leading me on part, are we?”
Nathaniel groans, running a hand through his hair.
“No, you don’t get to be frustrated. You’re the one that promised you’d be there. You’re the one that promised you wouldn’t leave. You said nothing I said or did could make you leave, so what the hell? What do you call this?”
“I call this deciding it’s not working out!”
“Fuck you, Nathaniel. You’re a poor, pathetic, useless, spineless, son of a bitch! Everyone who ever said you weren’t worth it, were right! You weren’t! I thought you were different, but whoops. Guess the joke’s on me, huh?” Chase turns to leave.
“You don’t get to have the last word in this.”
Chase turns back to look at Nathaniel over her shoulder, tears falling down her face. “You knew full well. No, you know full well that I am in love with you. That all I wanted was for you to be happy, and for you to be in my life. I didn’t start this romance shit. You did. So, if this is the end of so much time, so much fucking time and effort, of my life I spent fighting with you, hating you, loving you, and being on and off friends with you, then know this. You’re ending this. You’re the reason this got fucked up. Not me.”
“You and I both know that this is your fault,” Nathaniel says.
Chase just ignores him and walks away, backpack slung over her shoulder, and her heart on the pavement behind her.
***
The four hunters sit on McGregor’s couch; Chase and Sam on the left side of the couch, while Dean, who has his arm around Harley as they are holding hands, takes up the right alongside Harley.
“So, you were friends with Dirk?” McGregor asks.
“Yes, sir, in high school,” Sam replies.
“I don't recall Dirk having many friends at Truman.”
“When did, uh -- when did Dirk pass?” Dean asks.
“He was eighteen.”
“What happened to him?” Chase asks.
“Well, there was, first, drinking, then drugs, and then too many drugs. And then he just slipped through my fingers. It was my fault. I should have seen it coming, you know? Dirk, he, uh -- he had his troubles.”
“Troubles?” Harley prods.
“School was never easy for Dirk. We didn't have much money, and, well, you know, kids -- they can be cruel. They picked on him.”
“They picked on him?” Sam asks, surprised.
“They called him poor and dirty and stupid. They even had a nickname for him -- Dirk the jerk. And after what happened to his mother, he…” McGregor cuts himself off.
“His mother?” Chase asks.
“Yeah, Jane, my wife. She died when Dirk was 13. Cancer. I was working three jobs, so it fell to Dirk to take care of her. And he was a great kid. He made sure Jane got her medicine. He helped her, cleaned up after her. But, you know, you -- you watch somebody die slow, waste away to nothing... it does things to a person. Horrible things.”
“I didn't know about his mother,” Sam says quietly.
“He -- he wouldn't talk about her, not even to me. Lot of anger in that boy.”
“I’m sorry.”
“Well, we'd really like to pay our respects, Mr. McGregor. Um, you mind telling us where Dirk is buried?” Dean asks.
“Oh, he wasn't. I had him cremated,” McGregor states.
“All of him?”
“Well, I kept a lock of his hair.”
“Oh, that's -- that's nice. Where do you keep that?”
“On my bus, in my Bible.”
***
The brakes squeal loudly as Chase slams on the brakes, swearing. Moving off to the side of the road, the two girls hop out of the car, following quickly behind Sam and Dean. Sam walks up to a man getting out of the bus, while Dean sneaks around the other side of the bus, to be behind the man and anyone getting out.
“Dirk!” Sam yells. The man who’d gotten out of the bus first turns to Sam with a cruel smile on his face.
“Winchester, what are you gonna do? Shoot me?”
Dean sneaks up behind Dirk and wraps a rope around his body, while Harley rushes into the bus. “This rope is soaked in salt water. You’re not going anywhere.”
“Alright, everybody. Stay where you are and everything will be fine,” Harley says.
“Aren’t you the drama teacher?”
“No, not really. More like ‘21 Jump Street’. The bus driver sells pot. Yeah, that’s it.” She starts to shuffle through the front of the bus, looking for the hair. After a moment, she looks up in exasperation. “It’s not here!”
“Where is it?” Sam demands. Dirk simply smirks.
“Nowhere you’ll ever find it.”
Sam, obviously done with the situation, puts the gun directly against Dirk’s chest. Dirk struggles against the rope for a second. “Where is it?”
“Sam Winchester. Still a bully. You, you jocks... you popular kids... you always thought you were better than everybody else. And to you, I was just Dirk the jerk, right? Now you evil sons of bitches are gonna get what's coming to you.”
“I'm not evil, Dirk,” Sam says. “I'm not. And neither were you. Trust me. I've seen real evil. We were scared and miserable, and we took it out on each other -- us and everybody else. That's high school. But you suffer through that, and it gets better. I'm just sorry you didn't get a chance to see that... you or Barry.”
“Nothing is going to get better for me. Never.”
Dirk breaks out of the rope, knocking Dean to the ground easily. Sam shoots him with a salt round and he goes flying. A student, within moments, climbs out of the bus, obviously possessed by Dirk.
Chase rushes over to the passed out bus driver, making sure he’s alive.
Harley tries to shoot at the student, but misses, as the ghost beats Sam up.
“Chase!” Sam calls. “Find the hair!”
Harley takes this moment to check on Dean, who’d been knocked out moments earlier.
Chase pats down the man, trying to find where the hair had been hidden. Finally finding it, she reaches into his pocket and takes it out. “I swear, this isn’t what it looks like,” She mutters to herself, grabbing a lighter. She lights the hair on fire and the Dirk-possessed student screams.
The student slumps forward onto Sam, who struggles beneath the weight of the larger student. Dean laughs from his spot on the ground, next to Harley. He winces, holding his head in pain. “He’s giving you full cowgirl,” Dean laughs.
This breaks the tension and the four hunters begin to breathe normally again, glad to be done with Dirk-the-Jerk.

At first, Iris doesn’t even notice that something’s changed. That she has powers. That she’s no longer just a run-of-the-mill human.
Everything is overwhelming – Barry’s lost in the speed force, Jesse’s in a coma, Tony Woodward is sorta back to life and still has a crush on her. It takes her until she and Barry are standing in the cemetery before she starts to realize that all the feelings she’s been feeling…might not actually be hers.
Because Barry is talking so nostalgically about the little board book he brought his mom’s stone, and even though Iris knows that book always made her irritated and sad, she’s feeling a little teary and –
“I never really liked that book,” Iris says, and Barry turns watery eyes to her. “But, right now? I feel like I’ve loved it forever.”
“Why?” Barry asks, and she takes his arm.
“Because neither of us had a mom,” Iris says, and feels, almost like a physical wave, the emotions coming from Barry’s body to hers: sadness, tenderness, pure and absolute love. She steps away from him and drops his arm, and his worry comes to her more slowly, like a cloud rolling in.
Iris would go wait in the car, but they ran here. Iris takes a deep breath and tries to block everything out.
“I’ll give you a minute,” Iris says finally, and gives herself space under the guise of giving Barry a moment in private. The further she moves from him, the less intensely she feels the worry, the heartbreak, the distraction. Iris takes a breath. It’s raining (her hair, oh god) and the cemetery is empty. She’s always been good at reading other people’s energy, but the room is – quite literally – dead.
When Barry takes them back to the house later, Iris waits until he changes out of his nice clothes, and then she sits him down on the sofa away from the noise of her dad and her brother in the kitchen.
“I think I have powers,” Iris says baldly.
Barry stares at her like he’s never seen her before.
“I was in the city when the accelerator went off in 2013, I was in the lab two days ago, I got mixed up with the speed force – I’ve been exposed to all the stuff that’s not supposed to exist. X-elements.”
Barry’s mouth is hanging slightly open. “Y-you mean-”
Iris takes a breath. “I can feel you. Your fear. Your guilt. Your sadness. I didn’t realize it right away because everything was so hectic, but – I’m pretty sure those aren’t my feelings.”
In less than a second Barry flashes away and back, and her hair flutters into her face. She wipes it away, and he’s fiddling with Harry’s watch. Fear and dread pouring off him, Barry silently offers the watch to her.
Iris’s hand passes over the face of the watch, and
                                                                                  everything
                                                                                                             changes.
.
In the five-or-so minutes Cisco and Caitlin find in the next week, they confirm what Iris already knows: Harry’s oh-so-safe particle accelerator explosion that literally ripped Barry apart also washed Iris in dark matter. Her previously human DNA is different in one tiny but significant way: the metahuman gene.
Iris knows that if they weren’t facing down an army of supervillains from another world, if the CCPD weren’t operating out of a coffeeshop because their precinct is Zoom’s new HQ, if it was literally any other time, she’d be subjected to a battery of tests, be down in the basement training to learn what her powers can do and how to keep them under control.
As it is, the city’s barely surviving Zoom’s onslaught, and there’s just no time.
Barry’s new, post-speed force attitude isn’t really helping the situation, either.
Iris is still trying to get a grip on her new, fledgling powers, but she doesn’t think she’d need them to understand this. Barry is happy-go-lucky, upbeat, bursting with optimism; the speed force is with us. Iris can feel it from the moment Barry’s within a hundred yards of her, and she can’t help it: she’s slightly giddy with positivity.
On the other hand, the rest of Team Flash is terrified by the Metapocalypse and the lingering threat of Zoom, and that Barry’s optimism will be the death of him. (And the world.) Iris can’t help but notice her range for Barry is a lot farther than the others – but simply sharing a room with her dad can make her subdued and anxious.
It doesn’t make Iris feel better that the press is hardly helpful in this situation. Or at least, not as helpful as the rest of the team. She’s not exactly part of the news media producing the endless loop on TV telling citizens to stay in their homes.
Without complete solitude – an impossibility right now – it’s also hard for her to know what she’s really feeling – apart from her friends and family. If she could be sure her feelings were her own, would she still feel this worried? Or this blissfully confident? (Or both?)
Which feelings are right?
When Barry comes back to STAR Labs with blood crusting his ears and neck because an evil Laurel Lance would’ve killed him if Wally hadn’t run her over, Iris knows the majority has been right all along. No matter how Barry feels, the danger is real, and he needs to act that way.
The right ones are whatever feelings that’ll keep him alive.
Iris trails him into the medbay and plops down on the gurney. “You know you’re not invincible, right?”
Barry’s removing his gloves, but he gives her a little laugh and a patronizing sigh. “Yes. Of course I know this.”
Iris wonders how long it’ll take before it’s impossible for him to lie to her at all. His words tell her he agrees, but his heart tells her that they can survive anything.
“Joe’s being overprotective, but I get it,” Barry says, leaning against a cabinet.
Iris scoots a little on the bed, untangling her crossed legs. “Yeah, but you’re acting like nothing can touch you. Like nothing bad can get in your way.” Iris taps her heart. “And worse, I can tell you actually believe it. And it’s just not true for any of us.”
Barry seems sobered by the reminder that Iris – isn’t the same as she used to be. When he says, “What are you trying to say?” Iris thinks, He’s going to listen to me. He always listens to me. No one else has been able to get through to him, this time.
“I know you had an experience in the speed force. I saw some of it. I can still feel it on you now,” Iris starts, and holds out a hand to him, gesturing him close. “And I’m happy that you think we’re gonna win the day, but a little fear can be a healthy thing. It helps you determine which risks are worth taking.”
Barry swallows dryly, only feet away from her now. Separated by the wall from the Cortex, Iris is zeroed in on him in a way she hasn’t been since they were at Nora Allen’s grave. She can feel her words sinking into his buoyant mood.
When he nods and gets up to pass her, though, Iris can feel it all melting off, untouchable. She’s still holding her hand out.
He reaches out to rub it once in reassurance, and –
It’s like nothing Iris has ever felt before.
All of Iris’s worry, her fear, her helplessness, her terror for Wally and Barry and her father, her dim hope for a future after Zoom has ravaged the city: she’s exploding with emotion, and the moment Barry touches her, her feelings seep out of her skin and into his.
Barry staggers back as if impacted by a physical blow. His eyes flick up to hers, wide. She can feel his positivity sagging, supplanted by the caution Iris is impressing into him. Somehow, she’s actively changing the way he feels – and not the old-fashioned way.
She takes her hand away.
Barry’s eyes are slightly glazed. “Are you okay?” they ask at the same time, their words overlapping. Iris is nodding, but Barry is shaking his head.
“Is this how you’ve been feeling?” he asks, voice pitched high. “All the time? That was-”
“Really intense,” Iris finishes. “Yeah. I haven’t figured out a way to turn it off yet.” If she wasn’t so busy with Zoom’s army, she’d be afraid she never will. “And I definitely didn’t know I could – do that.”
Barry sits beside her on the bed and deliberately sets his hands on either side of her shoulders and rubs up and down. With each stroke, his optimism is tempered by her fear.
When someone calls for them from the Cortex, Iris takes his wrist once and closes her eyes, just to impress her feeling – caution! – one final time, hoping that her warnings aren’t hopeless.
This is how much we love you.
.
Maybe Barry is actually right, and the speed force is on their side. With Zoom gone and his army subdued, Iris thinks it’s high time for some family celebration.
Team Flash’s dinner party mood is almost as good as Barry’s has been for days, and Iris feels high on it – even more when Barry asks if – since he’s been feeling “extra invincible” – this would be a good time to give them a shot. (It is, it really is.)
Iris organizes people bringing food in from the kitchen while the others gossip, and she leads Henry into the dining room by an elbow and settles him at Barry’s side with a champagne glass.
And then there’s a pulse of terror, absolute and overwhelming, from the other side of the table, and she looks up to see Cisco’s post-vibe face, mouth gaping. The happiness abates. Iris can feel the tension straining across the room. People demanding answers. Cisco cries out, “Tell me I did not just see the end of the world!”
Iris can’t really imagine anything worse than an entire planet breaking, splitting in half from pole to pole, a whole world she’s never seen but has been so determined all year long to protect –
– a rush of hate and malice so cold Iris almost doesn’t recognize what it is. Sadism. A power-hungry cruelty. The bitterest spite. The fear in the room jumps; terror and helplessness all around her.
Two steps away from her, Zoom has Henry’s throat in his claws.
Barry’s fear is quickly turning into rage, a kind of rage Iris didn’t need powers to understand during all the years he hunted the Reverse-Flash. She can see him thinking, calculating how fast he needs to move in order to save his dad’s life.
Iris doesn’t think.
She feels.
Zoom never notices her hand, so fixed on Barry, the only threat, the only other speedster in the room. Barry is on the other side of her, but Iris is within arm’s reach, and her hand comes down on Zoom’s shoulder with what she knows must be suffocating force.
Iris still isn’t thinking. She isn’t calculating. She’s remembering all of the pain that Zoom has brought with him this year, with an intensity that she feels may make her heart explode.
Caitlin, hostage on another earth, at his mercy.
Jesse gone and Harry frantic with fear.
The endless lines of metahumans Zoom threw through the breaches to try to kill her family.
Larkin, who did not deserve to die the way he did, and Linda’s terror and pain – both Lindas.
Barry and Cisco gone through the breach, Barry shaking on the staircase as he confided to them the manner of the other Joe’s death.
Jesse, hanging from manacles and sleeping in her own blood and filth.
The prisoner Barry promised to rescue that they still haven’t gotten around to.
Barry’s nightmares.
Iris having to shoot a gun at another person, a person with her friend’s face.
Barry, broken like a doll, dangling from his grip on live TV, blood leaking out of him.
Her brother, helpless and in pain, a pawn in a game he was never a part of, and the reckless do-gooding he’s throwing his life away for.
Barry, white as a sheet, half his body in a brace, unconscious in a hospital bed.
Barry, screaming as they injected him with poison and the particle accelerator tore his body apart.
All of these things broke Iris’s heart, shredded it until there was nothing left but she just kept bleeding.
These things caused her to bite her nails and wake in the night with blood in her mouth, answer her phone after a single ring, have panic attacks in the bathroom at work and cry with fear as she wondered what catastrophe would befall her loved ones next.
All of these things – so…
…avoidable.
Acts of a man who hated and hated, and turned that hate into dead bodies all across the multiverse so – what?
He could feel less alone?
Zoom’s grip on Henry slackens. Lightning raises the hairs on her arm; Barry reappears on the far side of her with his father in his arms. Iris puts her other hand right over Zoom’s heart, and in slow stages they crumple to the ground.
She’s on top of him, her flirty dress riding up, the awful wrinkly texture of Zoom’s suit vivid beneath her palms. Somewhere in the background Iris notices lines of burning moisture traveling down her face and splashing onto his.
“You’re not alone now, Hunter,” Iris says softly, sinking further onto Zoom’s body. He’s twitching, and Iris can feel the impact of what she’s doing to him starting to break something deep within him, even more than he’s already broken. “I’m here. I can feel everything you feel. I know what you want, and why. You wanted to hurt people. Well, you succeeded. You hurt my family. You hurt me.”
Pitifully, a noise that resolves itself into the words “It hurts” reaches Iris’s consciousness. She didn’t notice it at first because he’s stopped vibrating his vocal chords into that demonic voice. He just sounds like Jay.
He sounds human.
“You’re not gonna hurt anyone anymore,” Iris whispers, and Zoom lies still.
.
Barry races to STAR Labs and deposits Zoom in the anti-speedster cell: the only safe place, for right now. The whole way there and for a long while after, Zoom remains unresponsive.
“Can we inject him with the anti-speed serum?”
“He’d have to be running to take his speed away, like he did before-”
“Do you have a place you can keep metas incarcerated on Earth-2?”
All the questions – important, Iris is sure – fade into the background for her. Iris is sitting on the end of the bed again. She’s got a mug of coffee in her hands, a pair of STAR Labs sweatpants covering up her very cold, bare legs, and a shock blanket around her shoulders. Though she can tune out the questions, she still can’t manage the emotions. Her family is afraid, but hopeful. They’re in problem-solving mode. Zoom is contained, for the first time ever, and it’s extremely possible that Team Flash is gonna figure this out.
Iris jerks awake when Barry sets down next to her on the bed.
“How long was I out?” she asks, grabbing for him. He allows it, but no emotions flow from her. Iris wonders if it has to be an exceptionally emotional circumstance. Touching him now only makes her perception of his feelings stronger.
“A while. Caitlin gave you a sedative to help you recover. Jitters’ll be opening soon.”
Morning. Iris suppresses a groan at the memory of 5AM shifts, but smiles at the reminder that things are going back to normal after Zoom’s defeat.
“Did you figure out what to do with him yet?” she yawns.
Barry’s radiating a kind of calm sureness that makes the question almost irrelevant.
“We extracted the speed force in his system while you were resting. STAR Labs on Earth-2 will publicize his identity, and he’ll spend the rest of his life in solitary confinement. He won’t hurt anyone else. The random metas he forced into his army we’re sending back a few at a time to the Barry and Iris there, to see whether they’re criminals or just – unlucky. Harry’s bringing our dampening tech, too, so any of those meta-criminals that need to be locked up can be. It’s a good day.”
Iris smiles. “I can tell.”
Barry’s feeling shifts to something serious, introspective, and almost…reverent.
“I don’t know what I would’ve done if you hadn’t been there,” he starts. “My dad-”
“He’s free, he’s alive, he’s here in the city, and he’s got his eye on Dr. McGee,” Iris laughs. “It’s okay. Maybe you were right all along. You are invincible.”
Barry takes a quick look at the rest of the team scattered through the lab, then whisks her away in his arms. Next moment they’re sitting on her dad’s front steps, and the whole world feels just as fragile as she knows it is, fresh with morning dew and sleeping as the sun is just beginning to rise.
“Not me. We’re invincible. I couldn’t have – none of this could have been without you, Iris. Believe me. You saved my dad. You saved Earth-2. Iris, Black Siren didn’t want to leave here because she insisted Zoom was going to destroy every earth with the stolen Mercury Labs tech, all in one shot. You saved the multiverse.”
Something is swelling, a depth of feeling Iris has often glimpsed, both in herself and Barry, but never had the courage to explore.
“Do I get a code name now?” Iris asks in a halfhearted attempt to play it off.
Barry huffs a laugh and sinks a hand into her hair. Somehow the fact that it’s sticky with old hairspray, pins long gone, doesn’t matter. Her smudged makeup and lab sweatpants under her fancy dress with no back and no bra doesn’t matter.
“I have never loved you more,” Barry murmurs as he gets closer.
Iris feels it like the sunrise. In response, she closes her eyes, takes his hand, and places it over her heart.

Hey ya’ll well I promised this fic when I posted the Queen prom fic so here it is. Now I know it’s not as long as the last one is but I felt like this didn’t need to be super long. Also as another special little fact for ya’ll I was gonna make this a Queen fic as well but then I decided to change it to a BoRhap CAST fic since I hadn’t done one of just them in awhile.
So to all seniors whether HS or college, the class of 2020 CONGRATULATIONS I know it’s not what you hoped it would be but still try to find celebration in this pandemic, you all achieved probably the greatest milestones in your life. So stay safe, stay healthy, stay sane, and be happy :) Lot’s of love from me my darlings!

Goddamn this year! Just when we think the new decade would be worth our wild, now we’ve got all this shit going on! First there was the threat of WW3, then the next month we’re dealing with wildfires in Australia, and finally to top it off why not add a global pandemic?!
The Coronavirus has literally been all over the news for months, and the fact that our government knew about it since late last year and didn’t warn us about it!? Then when they told us to be on lockdown, everyone starts hording toilet paper, hand sanitizer, and food that no one can buy said items for weeks on end.
But of course my main problem is the fact that I, along with so many other kids and adults around the world can’t participate in their own graduation ceremony.  As a college student, I was just longing to finally participate in my final graduation ceremony ever.  This was supposed to be my final chapter in school life and now because of this damn virus, that’s gone.
I mean yeah my diploma will be coming in the mail but I wanted my family to all be there to see me reach the end of my school life before I finally begin a new chapter.  Plus my cousin’s friends said that they would come and see me and I’ve missed seeing those guys, I hadn’t seen them all since the Bohemian Rhapsody premiere.
I sat there in my old room of my house (cause since the University closed down back in March, all students had to leave the college campus and go home so that way we could reduce the spread of the virus. So I ended up moving back in with my parents) just finishing up my final paper for class.
That’s when my Zoom video chat blew up with my cousin’s profile pic.  I grinned and clicked on the answer button and soon enough my cousin’s face took over my screen.
“Hey poppet.”
“Hey Gwil, how you holding up?” he let out a sigh.
“As best as I can. Though I should be asking you that, you are the one really dealing with this whole Coronavirus adjustment than I am. How’d you do on your classes?”
“For those that have said online classes are easier, they’re dirty rotten liars and completely incompetent.” He softly chuckled. “But thankfully I finished my last exam paper and submitted it just now.”
“Your dad look over it for you? Cause I know you’re a terrible editor.”
“Oi not all the time. Just when I’m lazy.” He hummed as he raised his brow at me. “But yes I did have dad review it for me. Cause before we got to submit the rough draft and my professor said I needed more analysis to my quotes on why I quoted that specific source. God I don’t know why I took that class to begin with?”
“Because you’re a criminology nut and you have been since you turned 16. God and I thought my horror movie tastes were bad.”
“Hey it’s good to be aware of shit like that!”
“Language missy!”
“Okay Cap.” I teased.  He gave me his stern look which made me laugh as I fell to my side on the bed. “Oh by the way I saw that little dating app video you did.”
“And what did you think?”
“I liked it. Kinda makes me wish an app like that did exist in real life.”
“You not just pulling my leg on this?”
“No. Honest and swear to god you had me moved by your performance. Well next to you being Brian May of course.” He grinned. “I swear I still can’t get over when I first saw you in the full hair and makeup, I literally almost had a freakin panic attack.”
“And the fact that Brian was also there to witness that.”
“Oh god don’t even go there!” I groaned as I hid my face in embarrassment.
“So—now that you’re all done with school, what’s next for you?”
“Well any plans I had are put on hold till this whole crisis goes away. And I really thought 2020 was gonna be my year. This sucks!”
“I know poppet, I know. But believe me that it’s not just you whose affected by this. Everyone in the whole world is suffering exactly the same way you are.” I sighed solemnly.
“I know. I mean I should be feeling for you and the guys right now, I mean all of you are out of work till further notice. And all the restaurants that I love going to. Did you know that the little ice cream parlor you and I used to go to when we were kids shut down?”
“No!”
“Yeah, the owner couldn’t keep up the payments because hardly anyone was ordering from them anymore, even with online delivery. So she closed it down.”
“Damn, that sucks. I really loved going to that place with you. That was always our special little time together without the grownups around.” I nodded remembering all the fun times we had together in that little shop.
It was then someone suddenly popped into our conversation.  The extra person now on my screen was none other than Joe Mazzello.
“Hey Gwil, mini-Lee!”
“Hello Joe.” Answered Gwil.
“Hey Joe been a long time.”
“How you two holding up?” he asked us.
“As best as we can, how about you? I’ve seen those Youtube videos you’ve been doing on your page.” Gwil said.
“You know those were jokes, especially that last one. I just wanted to get a laugh out of everyone, or have them hate me.”
“No one could hate you Joey.” I said with a smile.
“Aww thanks mini-Lee. How’s classes been?” I let out a groan as I once again flopped on my bed which made Joe laugh.
“I am just thankful that this is all over. At first I thought online classes would be easy but one of my professors was technology challenged. Another one would sometimes forget to do a lesson, and then of course blackboard could barely operate long enough for me to submit an assignment which caused some of them to be late.”
“Well like you said it’s over now.” Joe assured me.
“Oh hey I saw that Jurassic Park livestream you did.”
“Oh did you? How come I didn’t see you submit a question or just say hello? I’ve seen your Youtube page so I know your username by heart.”
“Cause I may or may not have also been working on a project. But chose the livestream over the project.”
“Nice going Joe, you’ve turned my cousin into a procrastinator.” Gwil complained.
“Hey at least she has Jurassic Park unlike you Gwilym Lee! Serious shame on you for not owning it! This is why mini-Lee is the coolest out of the two of you.” I snarked out a mock laugh as I stuck my tongue out.
“Ganging up against me okay I see how it is you two.”
“Oh come now cousin dear, we’re just messing around.”
“Messing around? If we’re messing with Gwil then I want a part of it.” Soon another picture came up and there lying on his side was Ben Hardy.
“Benjamin!” Joe screamed joyously.
“Hi Ben.” I sung out.
“Hey (y/n).” he waved at me with a wink. “Now going back to teasing Gwilym.”
“You guys are officially gonna be blocked right after this.” My cousin groaned.  We all laughed when I told him.
“Again cousin, we’re teasing you. So Ben, what brings you here?”
“What can’t I pop in and say hello?” I giggled.
“I see nothing wrong with it. Oh hey get this; I finally got around to watching 6 Underground.”
“And what did you think of it?”
“The first 10 minutes were insane! And truthfully I never really understood Michael Bay films, but this one—definitely my favorite. I loved it Ben, really.”
“Well thank you (n/n). Thank you.”
“Never did I think I needed to see both you and Ryan Reynolds on screen together….”
“Whoa okay easy there (n/n)!” Joe interrupted me.
“Oi you get your mind out of the gutters! And you say it’s the fans that make what you say to the extreme.” I scowled him.
“Trust me, I’ve known him for over 10 years and he still doesn’t grow up.” Another voice stated and soon two more familiar faces popped up on screen, stuck in quarantine together in LA were Rami and Lucy. And then a split second later another face came on the screen, it was none other than Alan Leech.
“Hey, Rami, Lu-lu, Alan!” I cheered.
“Hey (y/n)!” the three of them said as they waved.
“God I feel like I’m getting spoiled, got the entire BoRhap family together for the first time in like—forever.”
“It’s crazy.” Alan said.
“Definitely.” Agreed Rami.
“Maybe when this whole thing blows over we should all get together some time in New York.” Offered Joe.
“I’m down with it.” Ben said.
“Me too.” Lucy agreed with a nod.
“Yeah, (n/n), Ben and I could fly out together.” Said Gwil.
“I’m down with that. Now that I’m done with school, I can do what I want now.”
“So guys now that we’re all here shall we begin?” Lucy said.
“Begin what? Gwil what’s going on?” I asked.
“Well (n/n), when this whole quarantine shutdown and school cancellations started affecting the class of 2020 we all felt bad that you couldn’t graduate the way you hoped you would.” Gwil said before Joe continued.
“So Gwil called all of us up via the Whatsapp chat, as well as our daily zoom calls. To gather us all together on your ‘last day’ of college.”
“To celebrate your own Virtual college graduation party!” Rami cheered.  At that point everyone either threw confetti, blew on graduation blowers, or holding up signs that said CONGRATS 2020 GRADUATE!!!
I covered my mouth with my hands speechless and tried to hold back the tears.
“Ohh you guys.”
“Since you couldn’t have a college graduation party, we figure we’d bring the party to you. See not even this pandemic can stop us from celebrating our Mini-Lee’s ultimate milestone.” Ben said as he set down his congrats sign.
“And also expect some gifts within the next few weeks, depending on how the mailing services do with overseas gifts.” Alan said.
“Aww thanks you guys, you didn’t have to.”
“We know, but we wanted to. Let us spoil you even through this pandemic.” Said Joe.
“Thanks guys, this—really means a lot to me.” I wiped a hidden tear that strayed down the corner of my eye.  They all awed at me that’s when Gwil lifted up a small graduation cake.
“I know, I know this’ll be ridiculous but just humor me will yah?” I smiled and nodded.  He lit up the 2020 candles and held it just high enough for me to see the top part of the candles.
“CONGRATS (Y/N) LEE! CLASS OF 2020!!!” everyone proclaimed at once which made me smile and I blew out towards the screen.  Gwil then blew out the candles for me as everyone else cheered and clapped.
“Thanks so much you guys. Really, you have no idea how much this means to me.”
“We’re happy to do it (y/n). If it makes your day a little bit brighter in these dark times.” Rami said.
“It did Rami, it really did.”
“Well hope we can make this even better cause I’ve also got a part 2 to this little surprise. But in order for that to happen, everyone else has got to go otherwise you won’t really be able to see it as clearly.” Gwil said.
“Aww man.” I whined.
“No worries mini-Lee, your cousin added you to our BoRhap Whatsapp chat and I’ll send you a link to our zoom channel if you ever wanna chat with us again.” Joe said with a wink.
“Thanks Joe. And thanks everyone take care and stay safe.” They all waved and bid me goodbye with waves or blowing kisses at me and one by one they signed off till it was once again just Gwil and I.
All I could see across his bearded face was that cheeky grin he does whenever he’s trying to hide something.
“What are you grinning about?”
“Just the fact that I’ll be the best cousin once you see part 2 of your special surprise.”
“What did you do?”
“If I told you it won’t be a surprise now would it? Now let’s see, god I hope they get it.” He muttered the last part to himself. It took a few minutes till finally another screen popped up and standing there in his room was Adam Lambert.  I fangirled in my seat and covered my mouth trying to contain my squeals.
“Hey girlfriend!” he greeted with a wave.
“Adam oh my god!”
“How’s it going?”
“It’s been going. Finally submitted my last paper. So I’m officially done with school forever.”
“Yaas Queen!” he snapped. “So how’s it feel to be a college graduate?”
“Well it’d be better if we weren’t in the middle of a pandemic.”
“Understandable, but hey you’ve worked hard for this so be proud of yourself no matter what’s going on in the world right now.” I nodded with a shrug. “And to celebrate your graduation, your cousin whipped up another little surprise for you.”
“Oh my god Gwil you didn’t!” I gasped.  He merely raised a brow at me cheekily as he bit his lip back from a smile.
“Hey guys you there?!” Adam called out and soon enough two more screens came on and the picture revealed to be both Brian May and Roger Taylor.  Brian sitting on his couch while Roger looked to be in his basement with his drumkit.
At this point, I had lost my shit.  I was fangirling to the max at this rate but tried to calm down.
“Hi (y/n), congratulations of graduating.” Brian greeted me.
“Major achievement there love. Congrats.” Roger added.
“Oh my god…..Gwil this is—how……”
“I knew you’d love it (n/n). Plus I knew this would cheer you up after our last conversation we had last week. You really needed some cheering up.”
“So guys are we ready to do this?” asked Adam.
“I’m ready to go if you both are.” Said Brian as he took his Red Special and set it on his lap and Roger twirled his drumstick.
“(Y/n), this is for you love. Hopefully when this whole mess is over, you can finally go out there and reach your dream job. Till then we hope you enjoy this.” Roger said.
It was then both Roger and Brian began playing the tune for ‘we are the champions’ but as Adam began singing the song, it turns out that they were actually singing their new song, ‘You are the champions’ dedicated to the first responders worldwide.
But now they were playing it in my honor as a college graduate.  As they continued to play the song, I allowed the tears to flow down my face as I laced my hand over my heart.
God—never did I think that through this pandemic would I be happy.  From having to never see any of my friends I made in college again, to not having my whole family come to the house to celebrate, or going out to party with some of my friends.  But this—right here and now, my cousin made it all up to me all the way from London.
At this point, I knew that I was officially the luckiest person in the world.  All thanks to my favorite cousin, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

oh god, yearly round-up.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
side note: this is my TENTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! year of doing this!!!!!!!!!!!!! i have been on this website for OVER 10 years!!!!!!!!!!!!!! jesus christ.
ok. on a completely personal level, last year was so fucking dreadful that i remember falling asleep at my friends house on new years eve and thinking: “well, at least this year can’t be any worse”. HMMMM. in all seriousness though, despite everything, i have had a mostly decent year. i’m very lucky in lots and lots of ways. i’m lucky none of my closest family or loved ones have been effected too deeply by covid. just mild inconvenience, at most. i am lucky that i live in a house with such a large garden, so i could enjoy fresh air and family-free time if i needed to. i am lucky the weather has been mostly nice this year so i could go for plenty of walks. i’m lucky that i’m naturally a very quiet, anti-social person anyway so i haven’t felt the strain of isolation as severely as others.
most of all, this year has been boring, if anything. but there’s still been things that have made it nice. january - birthday!!! i don’t usually go hard or anything for my birthday but it stands out to me as a really lovely day. i went for a walk to one of my favourite hills with my dad & dogs during the day. in the evening, i had badminton with my friends as i used to most thursdays (INDOOR SPORTS?!?!?!!? REMEMBER INDOORS SPORTS?!?!!?!?!) and then, as per our tradition, i went back to their flat for take-away chips and halloumi burgers. because they are so unbelievably generous and lovely, my friends bought me a new badminton racket for my birthday. i feel like i’ve barely got a chance to use this year, for obvious reasons, but i can’t wait to use it so much more as soon as possible. the following day, i went to work as normal but then went out to a really nice italian place with my family for a meal and we did birthday cake & candles when we got home. feeling stupidly grateful for so many thoughtful people in my life. february - again, this year has been so dry that a trip to the cinema could be considered a high point. but it was my only cinema trip of the year and just a really nice day. me & my friend saw jojo rabbit (which was great, if you haven’t seen it already) and afterwards we ambled around town looking at things in shops. it sounds so simple but i haven’t done any of that stuff since really, so it feels so exciting and exotic when i think back on it.
february - stayed at my grandma’s house for the weekend. we do that as often as we can, usually, and it’s always nice. but - obviously - we haven’t been able to see my grandma much at all this year. it was nice to sit in front of the fire with her and watch tv and be given access to all sorts of baked goods and walk up the hills around by her. on the sunday, we managed to pop-in on my nana & grandad too and eat many baked goods there too.
march - meal out for my brother’s birthday. i feel like a lot of my “special days” this year revolved around someone’s birthday this year. but i think this was our last day of ‘normalcy’ before things went a bit crazy here. my family went to a caribbean pub with my brother and his gf and we had lovely tasty food and a nice night out. i think that was the last day i wore anything other than pyjamas or leggings for a long time.
april - no joke, i remember going to the vets during the peak of lockdown when the whole country was essentially shut down and it felt like THE most exciting day of my life. my cat was fine (she’d been bitten and needed painkillers for an infection but she was absolutely fine!) but i remember being near giddy in the car. my sister came with us too even though she didn’t need to because of how exciting it felt.
may - my brother’s birthday. the other one. the first of our lockdown birthdays. we popped in to drop a card off at a friend’s who shares the same birthday as him. then we drove (DROVE! IN A CAR!) to a stretch of really lovely canal that my brother likes to walk on and had a great walk. in the evening, we ordered in an indian take-away and my sister had made a FAT four-tiered chocolate cake to celebrate.
may - ok this is very dumb but i finished breaking bad this year and i set aside a special date to watch el camino. i made a very sickly millionaire’s cheesecake and my whole family gathered round the tv to eat and re/watch el camino. it’s so dumb and silly but i was so excited, it felt like a special cinematic event. i cried.
june - my dad’s birthday. my dad, my brother & me (plus dogs) drove out of the county (rogue fugitives!!!!!!) to meet my grandad for a socially distanced chat and picnic. it was a bit weird not being able to hug him and sitting on separate benches but it was still great to see him. we had a takeaway chinese for dinner and a chocolate cake for dessert.
july - my sister’s birthday. we technically celebrated it 4 days earlier because she had to move into her new flat but we had a nice indian take-away and another bloody chocolate birthday cake.
july - my mom’s birthday. i honestly cannot remember what we ate - i think we had homemade pizzas in the garden??? it’s weird when food dictates the differences between days. anyway, i definitely made another birthday cake.
july - went for a socially distanced walk with a friend i haven’t seen in ages. it was lovely and the weather was very kind to us and it was great to go walking across fields and to a reservoir i hadn’t been to in years and years.
august - my brother got his GCSE results and we ate pizza in the garden to celebrate. after the monumental government fuck-up with results, we were a bit nervous about how badly they’d ruin his chances but he did very well.
september - went to visit my grandma. she had been living by herself for the entirity of the pandemic (she doesn’t mind, she’s loves to garden and she does online latin and pilates classes, she’s a very busy lady) but i think she enjoyed seeing us. we were plied full of food once again. we went for a lovely evening ramble on the hills right by her house. on the sunday, my dad went for a walk with a friend he hasn’t seen in ages while me, my brother and my grandma went for another hill walk elsewhere. i think my grandma really enjoyed that because she hasn’t been able to go walking much because she was so anxious about tripping and being completely alone, or being rescued by someone carrying The Virus. so it was nice to accompany her. after that, we had a nice socially distanced meeting with my grandparents in their garden. it felt very risky to me because i am insanely anxious but my grandma, my grandad and my nana are all very safe and healthy.
october - halloween!!! i never celebrate halloween BUT this year, i was so sick of being the house every single day i decided to organise something different. so in the evening, me, my dad & my brother went for a halloween walk in the countryside through a graveyard, then through a field where there used to be an old abonnonded saxon village, and then finally through hagley wood where bella of wych elm was found. my dad & my brother were completely uneffected but i was absolutely shitting myself at every tiny little thing. my dogs had their little flashing colours on and we all had torches but i was still so pathetically spooked by everything. after the walk, we met my mom in the car (i had to get changed in the car from my walking stuff to vaguely presentable clothes) then we went to a goddamn PUB!!!!!!!!! to eat a meal!!!!!!!!!!! i went a bit overboard making my family santise their hands every 5 minutes but we definitely had a lovely meal.
november - did a bonfire in the garden for bonfire night. ate homemade vegan chilli and then apple crumble. it was freezing cold and we tried to stay out there for as long as we could. i even managed to find some sparklers and me & my brother waltzed around the garden with them, likesay we’re not an adult and a child-grown. the others melted marshmallows on the fire and i just enjoyed watching the fireworks i could see and throwing balls for the dogs.
november - we’re brits lmao but when joe biden’s presidency was finally confirmed, we celebrated with an indonesian take-away because fuck it!!!!!!!! gotta celebrate where we could this year!!!!!!!!!!
december - christmas!!!!!!!!!!!! we usually have christmas every year at my grandma’s house with my aunt and her boyfriend. it’s a fairly decent sized house out in the countryside and she has a wood-burning fire and it just Feels more christmassy there, especially as i’ve literally only ever spent one single christmas at home before. but we still managed to make it very special this year i think. my sister came on the 13th and we got quickly into a routine of watching christmas films in the evening. on christmas eve, i made vegan gingerbread biscuits and vegan mince pies and my sister made a chocolate yule log cake and then we watched a film. on christmas morning, we all opened our presents in our own living room which felt weird but was still lovely. afterwards, we went for a family walk. my mom pretty much single-handedly (me & my sister helped) cooked a whole christmas dinner for the 6 of us with all the trimmings. usually it’s my grandma, my aunt and my mom but the fact my mom managed to cook such a goddamn feast with our shitty oven where the grill doesn’t work and you have to slam the oven door at least 5 times before it shuts.......... i’m convinced she Might be superwoman?!?!!?!? and it was SO good. in the evening, we had cheese & crackers and my sister’s tasty yule log and we watched many a film. boxing day was much the same but still nice. this whole stretch between christmas and new years day is usually painfully boring but this year has been good, i think. i have consumed an entire army’s worth of cheese and chocolate and i have definitely enjoyed the snow we’ve had here recently.
so. yeah. this is very basic and boring. none of these things would usually end up in my write-up of the year. but i haven’t been to a single concert or theatre trip or even really left the midlands at all. in my round-up last year, i wrote some stupid sentimental bullshit about romanticising “the most basic and boring aspects of life” and never has that been so apt. on the face of it, this year has been SO boring. but i’ve managed to make it enjoyable in the tiniest ways.
for example, i enjoyed every single sunny day. i would jump on the trampoline and listen to podcasts. i would go running and listen to podcasts. i would go walking and listen to podcasts. i owe a lot to podcasts, i think. but i definitively owe a LOTTTTT to walking. i walk for a living (i’m a dog-walker lmao) but i would still go out for walks with my own dogs in the evening or go out for walks with my dad in the morning where i could. if we thought we made good use of the pizza oven last year, this year has been insane. i have made and cooked SO! MANY! pizzas this year and they were all excellent. i feel like food has been really important this year. like i said, it helps distinguish the days, especially “special” or “treat” foods. like everyone i have done a lottt of baking this year. especially when it’s been such a great year for fruit!!! there’s a field near me and there’s just simply shit loads of blackberries and raspberries that grow there. i remember one evening sat in the garden eating some mango sorbet my sister made with some raspberries i picked from the field and thinking that life simply does not get better than that. idk. it’s nice to take pleasure in the smallest things i think.
but, like i said, i have been so lucky this year. i was only off work temporarily and none of my immediate circle have been directly impacted by the effects of covid. as annoying as they are, i’m very lucky to have spent so much time with my family - as opposed to be being by myself - because it’s nice when we make food for each other and watch tv and films together or go for walks together.
god. this is long and waffley. if you read all this: what the fuck is wrong with you? but also: thank you! i know 2021 is definitely going to start off rocky but i strongly believe - and i’m a massive pessimist - that things are going to get better.  love and strength to everyone. wishing you peace and comfort x
(again: i cannot believe i have been writing up this silly little incoherent things for a decade!!! sometimes i like to go back and read the earlier ones and remind myself of old fun times and cringe at teenage me. here’s to... 10 more years??? hahahahaha. anyway:here’s the other 9 years of nonsense: 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012, and, finally, 2011.)

Warning: Angst
Danvers sister x b!danvers
Word Count: 2342
Part 1 || Finale
The day Krypton exploded Kal-El was sent to Earth and so was Kara Zor-El. What people didn’t know was that another member from the House of El was also sent to Earth. You were only eight when Krypton exploded, due to your smaller frame you crawled into the leg space as Kara sat in her seat.
When the pod got knocked off course from Krypton’s debris, Kara shielded your eyesight from seeing its destruction. You could tell she was scared too but she was doing her best to be the older sister.
There was only one time you woke up in the Phantom Zone and that was the most alone you’ve ever felt with Kara asleep, then you realized it has always been this way. You didn’t know how long you were awake. It could’ve been minutes, hours, days or even years. All you knew was that Fort Rozz was just out the window and that your life was going to be spent with Kara in a pod.
Earth was a whole different experience. If Kara was quiet you were quieter. This worried Kara, you were always the energetic bubbly kid sister, but she understood after losing a planet full of family and friends, it was difficult. You were both told to keep your powers hidden and only you kept true to those words. When your powers manifested you didn’t use them as much as Kara did.
While Kara was so hell-bent on being a hero you wanted nothing more than to be seen as a regular human. You were always overshadowed on Krypton and the moment Kara came out as Supergirl it all came back to you. How Alura favored Kara, how you were always babied by Eliza, Kara and even Alex, and ultimately how literally empty it felt to be in the Phantom Zone. Only Krypton and Earth were lonelier.
You made it clear to Alex and Kara that you didn’t want to be some hero. But that didn’t stop the three of you from being three peas in a pod. You and Kara fought over food, you and Alex teased Kara with her taste of music and there was never enough room on Kara Danver’s couch when you visited from school.
While Kara followed in Clark’s footsteps to be a journalist and reporter you put your mind to technology. After high school you went to M.I.T and received a job offer by Lena Luthor herself once you graduated.
Kara only managed to convince you to strap on the cape when she fell downhill with the whole I sent Mon-El away and now he’s married. Your suit was the same blue but the yellow and red were white and that was really when Superfriends knew of you at all.
“There’s another Danvers sister!” Winn beamed.
“(Y/N),” you introduced.
“T-that’s very human,” Winn stared at Kara
“(Y/N), abandoned her Kyptonian name. Kasa Zor-El.”
“Because Krypton is not here anymore!” You scoffed at the stares you received before you threw in the towel and flew away from Kara’s apartment.
Kara flew after you as you hovered over the city skyline.
“Kasa,” Kara pleaded with concern.
“Stop Kara, that’s isn’t my name!”
“Yes it is. This is how you keep Krypton alive. I get it, I really do. You had a life there, family, friends. But it’s been fifteen years, and on the way here I lost you.”
“I had no friends or family on Krypton!” You snapped.
“W-What are you talking ab-”
“I-I’m not talking about blood Kara. I had family yes but ieiu (mom) favored you, Aunt Astra loved you, Earth even loves you. I felt and still feel awuhkh (abandoned).” You said it in Kyptonese knowing it had more effect on Kara.
Kara’s face only fell in sorrow as she looked at you with pity. Something you definitely didn’t need.
“Kar, this is why I didn’t tell you. I don’t need your pity, especially after I told you.”
“That doesn’t explain how you got like this. You use to be so bright and cheery.”
“Nice to know I’m dark and moody,” you rolled your eyes and flew off towards the Fortress of Solitude.
“That’s not what I meant (Y/N)!” Kara screamed after you on your tail.
“KARA! YOU WEREN’T AWAKE. YOU DIDN’T SEE WHAT I SAW!” You landed in the snow
“What are you talking about?”
“The Phantom Zone,” you sighed. “I sat in our pod and looked into the empty void. At first I was afraid, but with Kryton’s debris around I realized that the empty void I stared at was just a reflection of my life on Krypton and now on Earth,” You eyes filled with tears and so did Kara’s.
“I didn’t know you felt that way ie (sister).”
“I’ve tried Kara. I’ve tried to go back. Krypton was my planet but it wasn’t my home. I don’t think I can stay here anymore. I’ll help you with your problem but I need to find my home.”
Kara pulled you into a hug, one that if your DNA didn’t hold Kryptonian DNA would surely break your bones.
Apparently Kara and Alex thought it would be a good idea to head to Barry’s Earth for his wedding. Kara thought meeting the whole gang would help you find a home within yourself, Alex just wanted you there cause despite your powers you were still her little sister.
Having seen the way Kara’s friends adored Kara made it worse. During the rehearsal dinner as Kara reconnected with her friends and Alex drank the night away, you were nowhere to be seen.
You sat over the edge of Jitter’s roof with your lead lenses glasses twirled in your hands. Yellow lighting appeared with a gust of wind behind it.
“So how do you know Barry or Iris?” A voice came behind you.
“Barry, when he went to Earth-38 and helped my sister.”
“Ah so you’re the famous Kasa Zor-El,” the voice approached you.
“(Y/N),” you turned to your right side.
“Wally,” he sat next to you. “I know that look, it’s the look of being in the shadows.”
You looked at Wally questionably as he continued.
“You have the same powers or you’re even better than the hero yet people only see you as the sidekick. You have powers yet people still see any threat as something you can’t handle. You try your hardest but will always remain number two a second option if their hero is gone.”
“I relate on a whole different level. I mean my Earth does not need another Super. Supergirl always saves the day,” you mimicked the tabloids.
You and Wally shared a good laugh or two as the person in the shadows. It felt nice to have someone you can relate too but as always the heroes need a babysitter for their hero work. That’s how you found yourself when Nazis stormed the church.
You and Wally were put on guarding duty.
“So what’s the game plan?” Wally asked with you trailing behind him.
“There is none yet. Whoever attacked us knows who we are, so just get Joe and Cecile as far as possible,” Barry explained.
“(Y/N), I want you to go with them,” Kara pleaded from the cortex entrance.
You looked between Kara and Barry.
“No way, we can help out,” you and Wally said together.
“You guys are helping by keeping our family safe,” Barry and Kara said in sync.
“They’re right, until we know what they’re planning, no one is safe,” Joe agreed.
Kara and Barry both gave a head nod as you and Wally sighed in defeat. Wally headed out with Joe first and as you prepared to leave you muttered a word of your feelings.
“Awuhkh, ” you said again before disappearing.
Though being a hero isn’t your forte, after the conversation you had with Wally you were not going to sit idly by while Nazis invaded Central City. It wasn’t your city but you did have the power and the knowledge to figure out what the Nazis wanted.
This was where you had more knowledge with than Kara. Now all you needed was a laptop or computer.
You connected to surveillance cameras of Star Labs to the screen and watched the process. Wally stood behind you as you both watched and pieced together the information given to you.
“Huh,” you laughed as Felicity found a location before a realization hit you that the prism they were after would mimic the red sun. “Oh crap.”
“What, What is wrong?” Wally asked.
“This prism can be altered to mimic the affects of the a red sun,” you explained.
“What does the red sun do?”
“Due to the yellow sun Earth has, Kryptonians are able to have different abilities. And the red sun gets rid of our powers, in short we will be humans.”
“So they’re trying to kill Kara?”
“But something isn’t making sense if they wanted to kill Kara they could just use Kryptonite.”
“Unless they’re making her body weak enough to cut her skin,” you physically snapped at Wally’s prediction and began typing.
The monitor zoomed into Alex with the Kryptonite arrow. Wally raised the volume at the previous recorded message with Earth X Kara having too much radiation
“Oh my god,” you froze.
“They’re using Kara as transplant.”
“And they just walked themselves into a trap.”
“You have to go,” Wally looked at you.
“What?”
“If Kara is going to be fighting herself there may be another version of you, I’ll stay here with Joe and Cecile. They need you more than they need me.”
“Godspeed Wally,” you patted him on the back before he pulled you into a hug.
“Go get em,” he smiled.
As you flew back to Central City what you planned on the way there was definitely a plan Kara Danvers wouldn’t like.
Getting through the Nazi soldiers that was the easy part, getting tthough to Kara X that was a different story. You walked towards Kara’s scared heart beat as you breathed in some confidence with what you were about to do.
You stood on the further side where the “red sun” couldn’t touch, you hid from Nazi soldiers that patrolled between the hallways before you headed towards the red room.
“It’s not going to work, you’re not going to get what you want,” you heard Kara say as you built up enough courage and walked towards the room.
“Really,” Kara X said and hovered over Kara
“Yes, really.” You’re own voice surprised you with how much power it had.
“Kasa,” Kara X stood in shock. “You died on Krypton!”
“In your universe maybe,” you stood your ground.
“And what. You’re going to stop me?” Kara X scoffed.
“No, I came for an offering.”
“(Y/N), you don’t have to do this!” Kara struggled to get out of her restraints.
“And what do you have to offer?”
“My healthy, younger heart in exchange for Kara and my friends freedom.”
You kneeled on your right leg with your right hand above your heart and your head slightly bowed. A Kryptonian promise.
“Kasa Zor-El! Don’t do this!” Kara was on the verge tears.
“Your sister died on Krypton, this way you will always have her with you,” you ignored Kara.
“I have to admit, normally I wouldn’t like such weakness but any warrior who faces their death with no fear is honorable,” Kara X beamed.
“She would’ve done the same for me.”
“Deal!”
As if on cue Thawne rushed in with Führer. Kara X and him shared a kiss before Thawne patted the gurney for Kara X to lay in.
“We’re going to need a new lab, I made a deal with my sister here,” Kara X pointed to you as Oliver and Thawne looked at you. “An exchange of her heart for her older sister’s freedom.”
“We don’t know if she’s a match,” Oliver growled.
“Do you dare defy me my husband?”
“No,” he puffed.
Thawne smiled “Don’t worry Kara Zor-El And Kasa Zor-El are practically twins.”
“Can the procedure be done on the Wellenreiter?” Oliver asked.
“With the prism it can be done anywhere.”
Kara X nodded, picked up Oliver and flew towards their version of the Waverider.
“Kara Zor-El ukiem, :zhalish. (Kara Zor-El I love you as my family, forgive me)”
You followed closely behind as Thawne smirked at Kara before he took the prism and disappeared. Kara still had the effects of the red sun in her system, she struggled harder and harder to release herself from the restraints as the leather dug into skin and drew drops of blood when Iris and Felicity entered the room.
“Kara,” Iris freed the restraints.
“W-where are the Nazis?” Felicity asked.
“Kara!” Alex threw the gun to the side and hugged Kara.
“Alex! They took her,” Kara cried. “They took (Y/N).”
Kara immediately wiped her tears and jumped onto the floor determined to get rid of her culture to save her sister. Only she has never felt as weak as she did at the moment as she collapsed onto her knees. She tried to get back up, the harder she tried the harder her body shook.
“Kara take it easy,” Alex held Kara once again.
“A-alex I c-can’t l-lose h-her,” Kara cried.
“I know, but if you go out there now. You will be killed!”
In that moment Kara finally felt you felt on Krypton, The Phantom Zone and even times on Earth. She hated it, she hated the lonely feeling even when the room was filled with friends and family, and she hated that you felt this way for you while life. A scream that rivaled the Canary erupted from Kara.
The whole room fell silent with goosebumps from Kara’s screams. No one has felt someone else’s pain as they did with Kara’s. It was the type of agonizing scream that puts any other thought on hold and drags everyone in a nearby vicinity into the same agony Kara was feeling. She lost her blood sister and felt guilty that you would never find the home you yearned for.

Crush Imagine: Lazy, Rainy Saturdays
QUICK NOTE: This is written mostly for a female reader who has a crush who is male. I've also tried my best to write this to where the reader has no specific body type - the same goes for the reader's crush.
    Key:
    - (H/C) is hair color
    -(S/T) is skin tone
-(C/N) is crush's name (I mean I guess in this he's your boyfriend)
    -(E/C) is eye color
It was a Saturday afternoon, a rainy one to be specific. Thunder rumbled through the air while lightening flickered throughout the grey sky above. The rain pitter-pattered against the rooftop, creating a sense of contentment between me and my lover. The rain always found a way to make me tired. I cherish those days where there was nothing to do but nap and listen to the rainfall, coming in waves of soft to aggressive downpour. Though, too many rainy days just seemed to drain me. I was always tired and gradually grew upset for no reason at all. Maybe it was the lack of energy, the lack of completing tasks around the house, the lack of any sense of achievement.
It was rare nowadays to have a Saturday off ever since (C/N) and I had to start picking up side jobs in order to pay rent as well as bills, not to mention food for the both of us to last more than a day. Might as well take advantage of those days off while you have them. Being a student while trying to work, study, maintain relationships - not just romantic, it takes a toll on you. Sometimes you just need to take a chill-pill, lay down for a while and binge-watch your favorite shows or movies while stuffing your face with comfort food.          The two of us laid on the old, semi-comfortable couch that sat in the middle of our conjoined dining and living room with our heads turned to the television watching a purposely comedy titled 'Joe Dirt.' At first, I assumed it was another poorly put together movie that was on a low budget too, though it's clear that it was supposed to be a cheesy, feel-good ending movie. It brought out a few soft chuckles from us, as well as roaring laughter followed by a few tears pricking our eyes while we clutched our aching stomachs. It was coming towards the end of the movie and both of our eyes were occasionally drooping with drowsiness. (C/N) laid on his back while wearing his neon orange hoodie and a pair of sweatpants that I had bought him. His soft, (H/C) brushed against the (S/T) of his forehead while his (E/C) eyes were rested upon the screen of the TV. He didn't bother to move the strands of hair that tickled the skin of his face, for his arms were busy with holding me close to him.     I was laying on top of him with the side of my head gently resting against his chest. Normally, I wouldn't be as comfortable with this position as I am currently. I would have felt as if I was crushing him. A couple of months into our relationship, I opened up and expressed these concerns to him when the insecurities of my weight were stronger than currently. Those dreadful thoughts were quickly put to rest as his two (muscular; lanky; etc.) arms wrapped around my body, pulling me close with one of his hands resting on the back of my neck gently while the other remained wrapped around my waist. He pressed the side of my head against his chest (or into the crook of his neck if you're his height or taller than him) as his thumb gently caressed the back of my head comfortingly. I felt his soft lips kiss the top of my head gently as I heard him speak. I'll never forget what he said to me that evening.      "Do you hear that?" he whispered, gently squeezing me tighter while running the hand that rested on my waist up and down my sides, from my hips to under where my arm is. My own arms had wrapped around his body, and I grabbed small fistfuls of his shirt as I tried to quiet my loud sniffles. What did I hear? (C/N) stayed quiet to see if I had an answer, or if I would even answer at all. I tried to listen closely to my surroundings, trying to find the source of the noise he was referring to. The only thing I could hear though was the sound of my sniffling and the comforting pounding of his heart. Listening to the sound of his heartbeat always put me at ease. Not having a definite answer, I shrugged silently in return. He sighed and pulled my head away from his chest, tilting my head to where my eyes gazed upon his handsome face. (C/N)'s eyes gazed into my pink and puffy (E/C) ones, giving me a soft and reassuring smile as he moved his hands to cup my face, gently wiping away any salty tears that streamed down my face. "It's my heart beating at a fucking million miles an hour for you." I let out a small laugh as my heart filled with warmth, but my head was still frostbitten from the cold doubts and self-deprecating thoughts.     (C/N) shook his head while sighing in disbelief. "I still can't understand why - how you still can't see how beautiful you are, how enchanting you are on the inside, and how stunning you are on the outside. Maybe I never will. I do know, though, how you're feeling, maybe not exactly, but I can relate." I stayed silent as he continued on while silently thanking him for taking the time to really sit down - metaphorically speaking - and having this talk with me.      It's not every day someone takes your worries seriously, and it's not every day you find someone who doesn't make a humongous deal over them to the point they end up crossing a line and you no longer have any sort of privacy. It's nice to have it somewhere in the middle. You need to address these thoughts seriously and see how they're affecting that person. Due to these thoughts, is the person trying to find a solution in a dangerous or unhealthy way? Either way, they should still be taken seriously and a healthy solution benefits all parties. Let's not make this seem like an essay for school. I've written enough of those last year.     "I, myself, wonder if I'm good enough for you, if I'm strong enough for you, if I deserve you, and the list goes on and on! There will be times where I continuously beat myself up over small things. That bad grade I got on that exam? Wow, I'm an absolute failure. My hair just isn't agreeing with me today? Gotta shave it off."     "(C/N) what are yo-" He cut me off before I could finish. He had raised his hand, pointer finger up to signal me that he was in no way finished speaking. Hearing (C/N) speak made me calmer by the second. His soothing voice floated into my hears and made my heart skip a beat. Hearing about his own insecurities cracked my heart bit by bit with every word. How could such an amazing person feel this way? Why couldn't he see that I find him to be the most perfect man that I've laid my eyes upon? It dawned upon me that I was feeling the exact way he was feeling. We both couldn't understand why we couldn't love ourselves for the way we are. To be frank, we know that no one is perfect, but we want to be the best person for the ones we love.     "I want you yo know that I love you more than you could ever comprehend. I love your hair, your smile, your kindness, your intelligence, and your body. You absolutely drive me wild with a simple smile baby. I'll try to keep this as PG and as sweet as possible," we both let out a small laugh at his comment. Even when he's trying to be serious, he always finds a way to make me laugh. God, I love that dork. "Now, I may be just a simple guy who's just trying to make it in life, but I can promise you that I'm going to try my damn hardest to make you feel as if you're the queen of the world." I playfully scrunched up my nose.     "Ew, no, that's too much fucking responsibility." He let out a loud, roaring laugh, tossing his head back as his eyes fluttered shut. He sighed and flashed be a heart-throbbing smile as he looked down at me with love completely filling his eyes.     "There's my girl. My beautiful, lovely girl," (C/N) mutters softly, leaning down and gently kissed my forehead. I blush at his words and playfully hit his chest.     "Oh shut up, you dork!" I let out a loud squeal as his fingers dug into my sides, tickling me.     "You better take that back, you brat!" He exclaimed while laughing. My knees buckled and my legs collapsed out from underneath me as his hands traveled from my sides to my stomach. This would be the start of the many discussion we would have about my insecurities, but he assured me that he didn't mind reminding me of how beautiful he thinks I am.     Here we are now, cuddled up on a ratty brown couch, yet we're happy nonetheless. As I laid on top of him, his one hand was gently placed on my upper back, while the other was wrapped tightly around my waist. His hand was clenched into a fist as he had a grip on the hoodie I was wearing, which was also his. Both of my arms were curled tightly against my chest, sandwiching them between us. It most definitely wasn't the most comfortable position, but I didn't care and I didn't dare move.     I let out a soft whimper after releasing a big yawn, grabbing (C/N)'s attention at the slight movement. He looked down at my tired forms with his own sleep-deprived eyes and chuckled softly. His grip tightened around me as I felt his soft lips kiss the top of my head.     "I think it's about time we both head to bed," he mumbled. His words were slurred and his eyes drooped as he spoke due to exhaustion. (C/N) reached for the TV remote, his hand missing it the first time before he turned the TV off. As he pushed himself up into a sitting position, my head was gently pushed from his chest to his lap. He laughed as I continued to lay there and refuse to move. "Come on sleepyhead," he joked while ruffling my hair. My nose scrunched up and I let out a whine, both from him screwing up my already tangled hair and the thought of moving from my comfortable position - now that my arms weren't crushed between the two of us. I rolled onto my back and looked up at him.     "But I don't wanna move!" I complained while pouting childishly. The sound of him talking could put me to sleep, which means I'd end up falling asleep on the uncomfortable ass couch and hate myself in the morning. (C/N) laughed at my misery and carefully slid my head off of his lap and onto the couch before standing up and stretching, groaning as he popped a few joints and cracked his back while doing so.     "In that case, don't you worry your pretty little head," he reassured before surprising me by sliding his arms under the middle of my back and behind my knees before scooping me into a bridal style position. This has got to be a dream. My eyes widened in shock and let out a loud yelp. My legs flailed slightly while my arms automatically seemed to find their way wrapped around (C/N)'s neck, causing him to let out an amused laugh.     After readjusting his grip, he carefully makes his way over to our shared bedroom. I felt safe in his hold. As he walked, the side of my head fell against his while my eyes would slowly droop shut only to shoot open. As much as I'd love to fall asleep in (C/N)'s arms, I'd much rather sleep in a bed for once. He seemed to notice my attempts at keeping myself awake and let out an amused huff of air. He laid me down on the bed and softly pecked my forehead.     "Get some sleep, we both need it." I let out a small yawn and nodded, stripping off my sweatpants and hoodie before slipping on one of (C/N)'s shirts - which he had handed to me. He stripped off his own hoodie as well. We didn't have the best working AC in the bedroom and we don't wanna end up sweating a shit ton in the night, so we opted to sleep with light, loose clothing or none at all.     "I know, I know. I just wanna fall asleep in be for once instead of that damn couch," I replied while laying down after crawling under the sheets. He too crawls under the sheets after me while laughing, laying down on his side while I lay on my stomach. We face each other. (C/N) lays one arm across my lower back and his hand gently grips my waist, pulling me close against him. "Maybe that's because you study there the majority of the time and end up falling asleep while reading, working, or binge-watching The Office for the millionth time." I roll my eyes at his words.     "For the record, it's a great show, and it's not my fault that Jim Halpert is one of the sexiest men alive."     "You mean John Krasinski?"     "No, Jim Halpert. Ya' know, any time I see John Krasinski in any other movie, I'm always thinking, yep, that's Jim Halpert. Fun fact, I used to think his last name was Krisanski, like spelled with an 'I' instead of an 'A' at the beginning of it and flip-flopped in the middle of it. I guess I just never really took a good look at the spelling. Makes sense cause I never fucking made it to the Spelling Bee. Then again, that's probably because I didn't wanna be in it. Too much fucking anxiety and pressure." I ramble on while laughing a bit at my own words. (C/N) laughs as well at my rambling and presses his soft lips against the skin of my forehead while grinning, sighing softly after.     "See, this is why I fucking love you," he mumbles raspily, his voice sounding lethargic, yet I'm still able to pick up how affectionately he speaks to me. I raised an eyebrow.     "You love my obsession with Jim Halpert?"     "No, dummy," he laughs while playfully flicking my forehead, causing me to wince at the tiny amount of pain and pout. "I love it when you ramble on about things you like and you're overall passionate about. Maybe it's because I just like hearing your voice - no, that's definitely it." I feel butterflies flutter around in my stomach as his sweet words and couldn't help but smile softly up at him. I shifted myself to where I'm resting on my side and reached up to cup his cheek. We're silent for a while, just admiring one another. Inside, I wanna crawl away from his intense gaze as insecurities rise, but I'm sure (C/N)'s feeling the same way.     "Ya' know, that's one of the things I love most about you. You actually take the time to listen to all of the weird shit I have to say, even when it doesn't make any sense. You remember all of my likes and dislikes - mostly because I talk about them over and over. You also take better care of me than I can care for myself." At the end of my rambling, (C/N)'s (S/T) cheeks were dusted pink and a grin as stretched across his face.     Our eyes fluttered shut as he leans forward and kisses me softly. It feels as if I'm on cloud nine as our lips intertwine together. It's slow, loving, and beautiful. As the kiss speeds and heats up, he pulls me on top of him while he lays on his back. My hands rest on his chest while his own move towards my hips, gripping the soft flesh with his large, strong hands. I straddle his waist and let out a soft moan as his kisses decrescendo into soft pecks, traveling their way down my jaw to the sensitive skin of my neck. (C/N) lets out a small chuckle at the sound and wraps his arms around my waist, pulling away to look up at me with tired, love-struck eyes.     "As much as I'd love to continue this, I know you're tired as hell, and so am I." I let out a soft laugh and nodded in agreement, laying down on top of him with my head resting on his chest.     "I feel ya' on that level," I muttered sleepily. (C/N) gently kisses the top o my head and pulls the blankets over us, making sure it's nice and snug around us. "I love you," I mumbled quietly ad my eyes droop shut. "I love you too, darling," he mutters back, equally tired. Our breathing slows down as we both drift into a slumber, dreaming about one another.

Chapter 6 : Valentine's Day
Those green eyes, serene as a lake
in whose calm waters one day I contemplated myself,
don't know about the sorrows left in my soul
by those green eyes that I will never forget
"Aquellos ojos verdes" by Paquita la del Barrio
Take me to Spotify!
DEAN
THEN
He keeps messing with the radio.
"Cas, I swear, just. Pick a damn station. Please."
"There's nothing half decent on, Dean. And before you start lecturing me: NO. I don't feel like listening to your music," he snorts, turns off the radio altogether and turns to look out the window. Dean keeps sparing him sideway glances every other mile. He seems more than a little moody today. The rain drums against the car in a soothing rhythm and with no music, it's hard not to drift off.
"Is there any coffee left?"
Silence.
"Cas?"
"What?" He turns around.
"Wanna tell me what's going on, man?"
"Nothing."
"Doesn't sound like nothing."
Cas snorts.
"See, that's your angry snorting right there. C'mon, spill the beans."
"I'm not angry."
"Right."
Cas keeps struggling for a while with whatever it's on his mind and then finally he blurs out: "What's the deal with Bobby and motorcycles?"
Oh. That.
"He doesn't like them."
"Yes, Dean, I get that much. But why?" Cas looks at him earnestly, like this is really important for him.
"His best friend Jesse got killed on his bike."
"Oh," Cas' stance deflates. "He... He didn't mentioned it."
"Do we ever mention those we've lost?"
"No, I guess not," Cas sighs and goes back to that little place inside his head. After a few more miles, Dean insists.
"We still have a few hours to go, do you feel like stretching your legs? I can pull over on the next exit."
"Sure," he nods and goes quiet again.
Half an hour later, they pull up at a truck stop. After a quick visit to the boys room, (Cas, for the love of God, stay away from glory holes!) he gets to the convenient store as Cas takes a walk around the parking lot. Dean makes a bee line to the coffee machine and smack his lips in disappointed. The coffee has the consistency of an oil spill. Given the very sad caffeine situation, he rummages through the candy isles, picking gummy bears, a few Snickers bars, and gum. Next to the register there's a big plastic fish bowl with cassettes tapes for 99 cents and that definitely sparks his attention.
"Gotta love a good treasure hunt," he mutters to himself as he carefully goes through them. The big guy behind the counter chuckles at his comment and that's his cue. He looks up and sees a name tag.
"Amirite, Larry?" Dean grins widely at him.
CASTIEL
Three cigarettes later, Dean comes back with a shit eating grin. He opens the driver's door and toss the plastic bag inside. He makes his way to him with the beaten Stanley tugged under his arm. He places it on top of the trunk and leans against the side of the car.
"What took you so long?" He hands him the cigarette package.
"Got distracted," Dean shrugs, takes one out and pads his pockets. He makes the grabby hands and Cas has to dig the lighter from the front pocket of his jeans.
"Dude, seriously. Quit stealing my shit," Dean sighs and pockets his Zippo. They smoke in comfortable silence for a while. The rain has since stopped. It's cold, cloudy and altogether a gloomy February day. Cas goes for the coffee and can't help a disappointed grunt when he realizes it's empty.
"Tought you were getting coffee?" He didn't mean to sound so childish, but it's been a somewhat meh day.
"Yeah, didn't look so good. Wanna grab a good cup of joe?"
"Do we have the time?"
Dean nods with that stupid grin still plastered on his face.
"Rufus said he expected us after 2 p.m., we can take a detour. Specially for coffee and pie."
"OK, Dean."
"You can throw me under the bus if we run late, don't worry."
"You'll deal with Rufus?"
"Of course, Cas. Don't worry. I got you."
They finish their cigarettes and get back on the road. Apparently Dean seems to know exactly where he's going.
"Larry said this place has the best pecan pie," he says casually looking out the window.
Don't frown at him.
"Who's Larry?"
Don't frown at him.
"Convenience store guy," he replies. That's so like Dean. Making friends in a heartbeat. Charming everyone on his wake.
"It should be... right... this... way... wait... wait... and... there! Aha!"
"I don't see any parking space," Cas points out.
"Yeah, Larry said it might be packed. But worry not, 'cause I asked Vivian to call them ahead, so they should have our order ready to go. And before you ask, Vivian is Larry's special friend."
Cas has to huff, he has to.
"And no, that's not how I got distracted. You go inside and ask for Fred, I'm gonna drive around the block."
"Who's Fred?"
"Fred's the man. Here," he fishes some bucks out of his wallet. "And here," he hands him the Stanley. He slows down almost to a halt and Cas gets out and totally jaywalks to the dinner.
"Cas!" He turns around to see Dean rolling down the window. "Tip the man!" He yells and Cas nods. Then he watches as Dean slowly drives away.
He walks in and, sure enough, the place is packed. He manages to get to the counter where a middle aged brunette in a very pink uniform greets him.
"Hey, sweetie, what can I getcha?"
"Hi, I'm looking for Fred?"
"You the Angel?" She smiles like the Cheshire cat.
"Sorry, what?"
"It's you a'right, baby blues she said. I'm Fred, Vivian said you were coming. Lemme get that for you," she gestures for the thermos and Cas hands it reluctantly. She swirls on her heels and goes to the back, where she disappears for a minute and gets back with three containers.
"A'ight, birthday boy! One order of blueberry pancakes, one waffles and bacon, one pecan pie for dessert and fresh coffee for the road. Is that all?"
Dean. Fucking. Winchester.
DEAN
He cruises by the dinner a third time and this time Cas is there holding a big paper bag with both hands, the Stanley tugged under his arm. He thought a second breakfast for lunch would cheer him up but apparently he was mistaken. He hits the breaks and opens the passenger door to let him in.
"You told them it was my birthday!" Cas barks and sits down miraculously balancing all the food, thank God. He carefully put the containers down on the seat and then he practically shoves the coffee at him. "They sang to me, Dean. The whole freaking dinner sang happy birthday to me. And you said Fred was a man and she was certainly not!"
"Did not."
"You totally did!" Cas sounds pissed, but doesn't slams the door, because he definitely knows better than to take it out on Baby. Dean picks up some speed as they return to the barely existing traffic.
"I said Fred is the man. You don't need to be a man to be the man. And you know birthday boys gets extra everything on their order."
"And she asked me if I was an angel!"
Oh.
"Look, Cas," he begins. "Honest misunderstanding, OK? I said you were named after an angel, not that you were an angel. It's not like. They didn't even know about. Just. Chinese telephone, man."
"And then Fred told me Vivian told her I was feeling 'a little blue' because my girlfriend is going away to college---"
"Never said Sam was a girl," he chuckles.
"So Fred explained me in excruciating detail everything Jesus can do for me, including but not limited to, help me with my most primal urges, and, of course, how to have a healthy long distance relationship."
Now he has to laugh at loud.
"It's not funny, Dean."
"I think that's pretty damn funny."
"You're such a jerk."
That actually hurts hurts.
"Oh c'mon! You know the art it's in the details. You need to chill, man."
"Don't tell me to fucking chill! This is exactly what Sam means!"
Oh hell no.
Under any circumstances he'll endure the tone from Castiel. He'll be damn if he does. He sees a spot ahead, hits the gas, pulls up and hastily hits the breaks. Cas obviously didn't see that coming because when he turns to face him, he's staring back, eyes wide open.
"You don't get to talk to me like that, y'hear me? You're not my brother!"
Oh fuck.
Cas narrows his eyes, snorts.
"Believe me. I know," he mutters through gritted teeth and turns to look away.
"That. That came out wrong."
Breath, just breath.
"That's not. Look. I was trying to cheer you up, a'ight? I just thought. We could. I didn't. I didn't mean to. Fuck." He can feel his voice trembling.
Just say it. Just fucking say it God damnit!
"I'm sorry, Cas."
You fucking coward.
"I didn't mean to upset you."
Cas keeps his back turned but his shoulders sag a little.
"We should eat our breakfast, before it gets cold," he looks around. He seems to have parked on someone's driveway.
"Maybe not in Darren and Karen's driveway."
He pulls out and starts to make his way back to the interstate. Maybe he can find that park he saw on the way to the dinner. Hopefully, the scenery will help up with the mood. Probably not. Shit. Shit. Fuck. Years of carefully and thoughtfully phrasing everything that comes out of his mouth to blow up over one stupid breakfast.
I hate Valentine's day.

Note
may we get some single dad AU headcanons? [pleading face]
Yyyyeah sure, I dont see why not. Tho these are gonna be a lil short since the ask is for a ship meme and general smash headcanons are done on my main rather than my rp blog (which isn't to say I dONT do headcanons here but I always have a fear that someone's gonna try and start sending me x reader stuff here sksksk)
Skaar
Wakes you up by "earthquake" which is him literally using geokinetic powers.
Always does his kid's hair since he never had anyone to do his growing up.
Matching jackets dad.
Likes to go on long walks to teach his child about the world around them. It'd shatter him if his kid didn't want to go on nature walks with him anymore.
Watches performances that his kid does and claps every time.
Big on self defense and his kid can probably break your arm at three honestly.
Snack dad and by that I mean he carries snacks everywhere.
Rick
Dad that absolutely runs and plays on the equipment for his child.
Imagination games ALL the way and this man has been a dragon for far too long.
Tries to get his kid to learn the guitar or some form of instrument so they have that skill at least and also jamming buddy.
Wants matching jackets so bad UwU
Let's his baby stay up late and lots of junk food on weekends.
Still? Tries to be on top of stuff and has chore charts while also making sure his kid gets the sucky stuff in life out of the way before the good stuff.
Kid breaks the rules??? Its so much worse because Rick starts crying rather than hating mad. Oh no. Shit.
Red
Dilfs still got it.
Look. Red...fucked Betty up but also it has been shown that before his wife died, Red is soft and absolutely a push over for his kid when they're young.
Big man. Big coat. Small baby in baby hammock (what are they called???) Stapped to his chest. Safe and warm. I'm the babey.
A mess oh my god he's so tired. Falls asleep all the time but snaps awake as soon as he hears the slightest nosie.
Brags about his kid oh god. So much. You could talk about anything yet Red still turns it towards his child??? How??? Red, I was talking about how Leader murdered three more people jesus.
Will fight anyone over his child. He's banned from the school but he still screams at it.
Krusty Krab.
Hulk
What u came for.
Haha but funny enough I would HATE to be asked for Hulk and daughter/child prompts since wattlad and other sites are fucking filled with these stories.
I can't take it anymore.
But anyway.
He cries at anything really. First words, first steps, first picture for him, first tooth,,,he's a crier.
Packs you a lunch and lies about the fact that Red cooks it. Always leaves a little note in it because his mom used to do it for Bruce since she couldn't always go and take him to school and be seen by people.
Can't. Really ever tell his kid off. Kid,,,,probably takes it to their advantage as you know what goblins children are but it absolutely does cause some guilt when one learns that Hulk is terrified of going too far with punishments.
Fun trips with Uncle Joe to the..."door house???" Uncle Joe??? Why are you looking away and swearing under your breath??? Yes we know you can come back to life but why would dad kill you???
Big dad loves his naps with his kid and absolutely spent half of his days watching his kid sleep in wonder.
Samuel
PTA mom. I'd say more but I don't know what a pta is because I'm British.
Absorbed every child cartoon through osmosis and regretfully can quote spongebob at all times.
Actually I've mentioned that Samuel has plug sockets embedded into him for easy info transference so. Whose to say he can't be used as a portable Netflix.
Talks to his kid about science and long winded theories, waits for his kid to babble a little bit and chat back as it he got a full answer.
Science! Experiments!! Make a volcano!! See how pompeii would have burned!!! Now see how a real town reacts to it!!
Hypocrisy in telling his child the importance of healthy living while drinking coffee in his travel mug with sushi bobbing in it like shitty poor man's marshmallows in hot chocolate.
WILL sabotage other children for his superior child's achievement.
Keeps everything his kid gives him.
Taught himself and and every medical care trick for his child and if villainy doesn't work out then he can become a dentist or doctor at least.
Loser who's sleep deprived and ok so. As a kid I used to demand my parents slept in my shitty single baby bed until I fell asleep and long story short Samuel spends eight or nine years falling sleep in a small child's bed.
