someone suggested that the manga jiroâs reading in the 8th live cover is actually a soccer-fied version of bb vs mtc and i canât unsee it now lol
#this is vee speaking#like the top panel is jiro and saburo and the last panel is of samatoki#with ichiro using an ultimate move the panel before lol#i think it would be so funny if there were in universe animanga that are based off our rapping boys lmao#like the way gentaro writes fanfics for these arb events#regular people just go around making manga series of the drbs that are suspiciously similar to hypmic irl lmao#like you do see the effects of the current era in manga in hypmic based on that rap isekai jiro and ichiro got excited about lol#but i wanna know if the way sports manga sometimes have characters based on real athletes and even look like them#the same happens in hypmic lol#like ichiro might pick up the latest rap inspired manga and kinda just die inside because the mc is dark haired#has heterochromia and a mole on his face lmao but i bet jiro would think itâs cool lmao#c: jiro#c: ichibro

Iâm curious as to what race young me thought Daniel was back in 2018
#random post#like. was he white? now I say heâs white but like. was he?#he had monolids so maybe he was some kinda East Asian but I legitimately donât fully know#I never put much thought into it really#Iâm tired and ramble but anyways what button got pushed in my brain to make him black?#I wouldnât have it any other way but like. whyâd I do that? đ¤#anyways back to the what race I thought they were thing (they being Daniel and Jane) maybe I just made them elves??#is elves a race?? I guess in a fanatasy sense they are#anyways I think in the future I wanna have a panel or two of a comic with Daniel and Jane where they cross paths with their og designs#but they are separate people running a shop or smth. I think itâd be humorous. cus they are SO different#but king time followers or friends might notice they are ⨠technically ⨠the same people lol#idk what Iâm talking about rn

desire to post a WIP to patreon right now because it's Done Enough that you can tell what's going on and I'm EXCITED vs desire to wait until it's completely done so I can drop the finished product without stealing any of its thunder
#leaning the latter but I'm mad and impatient about it fgdkjhkdf#whether I post a WIP to patreon before the art is actually done depends on a lot of factors#in this case: it's fengling and juniper romance conversation and her player is a patron#so it's very specifically 'do I want stephen to see this before it's done' lmao#THE THING IS!!! I want it to be dropped as a finished product BUT one of these panels I'm not sure how I wanna do it#right now it looks really good as a sketch but I think figuring out how to execute a finished version might slow me down :')#and I'm EXCITED and I'm IMPATIENT UGHHHH#I started drawing this like... several months ago but I'm just now getting back into it after it's been sitting untouched for awhile#so that's also a factor aahaha I'VE ALREADY BEEN WAITING MONTHS TO SHOW PEOPLE WEHHH#about me#my art

THE BATTLE JACKET MASTERPOST
FINALLY PUNKS IT'S HERE
a battle jacket (also called battle vest, cut-off, punk jacket, patch jacket, and probably other stuff) is a jacket (duh) usually made from denim or leather with DIY additions of patches, studs, flags, painted panels, chains, and other bonuses, used to signify subculture. Punk, metal, and biker scenes all use patch jackets, but I'll only go into specifics about how they're used in the punk scene. Metalheads, I think, almost solely personalise with music/band shit. Bikers use them to signifying which club you're riding with. Punks started using them in the 70s and they've remained a staple of the subculture's style since. They're good for signalling your politics, bands you like, and other information you might want to get across. They also look cool.
HOW TO START
If you're here I assume you wanna learn how to make your own so I'll cut the history lesson short and get on to the practicals.
1: first you're going to want to get a plain jacket, probably denim or leather, but you could get a canvas jacket if you're nervous and new to the scene because it's way easier to stitch canvas, so you could experiment with that as you're building confidence. The jacket should be at least a bit oversized because with all the stitching and painting or whatever you'll be doing, you could run into fit issues with a very form fitting jacket. also, this jacket might frequently be worn over other jackets or layers so that will help with that too
2: start making choices. namely whether you want to keep the sleeves. obviously you can remove or reattatch the sleeves later but I think making that big mod first is a good starting point to help you feel like it's a work in progress. so if you're going to chop the sleeves I say do it now
3: brainstorm. I know, I know, coming up with your own ideas is hard, but this is your own totally literally unique piece, so think about what sorta look you want
4: you don't have to brainstorm alone though. search tumblr or pinterest for punk jackets, punk patches, punk clothes ect for inspiration. you might get a good idea for an individual patch, or for a broader layout
PATCHES
1: the big deal. this is what will make your jacket into a battle jacket. there are some unofficial rules/sayings in the scene about what sort of patches you should put on your jacket. some people get dickish sometimes about if you put a non-punk band on your jacket? however i think that is bollocks and you should do whatever you want forever. one saying i do personally mostly stick to is "politics up front, bands on the back" with the idea you stick your politics on your front so you can see the punches coming
2: where do you get the patches? you make them yourself. You can buy ofc but don't get shit off amazon or shein or whatever the fuck. If your fav band or small artist is selling patches go for it though. You will have the most choice if you make your own patches. Do you have scrap fabric (maybe the sleeves of the jacket, which is where i got a lot of my patch material)? Do you have paint and paintbrush? good. you can make a patch
3: how do you do that? well depends on whether you stencil or freehand. stencil means you cut out an outline, of say a band logo, out of card, and use that as a stencil. freehand means you paint whatever tf you like
4: paint?? yes paint. messy as you like. start maybe with simple slogans or symbols often found in the punk scene like "ACAB" or "eat the rich". maybe an anarchy symbol. i also like to paint a layer of mod podge over my designs to waterproof them.
5: great, you've got a patch, what are you going to do with it? sew it onto the jacket. unless ofc you bought an iron-on in step 2, in which case iron that shit on and be careful punks. most likely though, you're sewing it on. a lot of punks use tooth floss to sew on because its cheaper, easier to find, readily waxed and waterproof, and does a better job sewing shit down onto heavy duty material like leather or denim. I use a combined running stitch and whip stitch personally
STUDS n SPIKES
1: all those punks you've seen have metal sticking out their jacket eh? yeah, theres a whole lot of options here. spikes of many different sizes and shapes, which within that can be stitch on, screwback, or have fold down prongs on the back of them
2: where do you put them? probably the front or top of the jacket. you can put them on the back but that might be uncomfortable, or rip up someone's upholstery
3: where do you get them? you can still DIY these by cutting up a metal drinks can [whole other post] but BE CAREFUL. i suggest checking out the internet for these, same buying rules as patches though. no shein. no amazon.
OTHER SHIT??
1: go wild
2: other common additions would be chains, lighter caps, badges, and can tabs
HAVE FUN PLS ASK ME QUESTIONS AND SHARE IF YOU START A BATTLE JACKET

Oh my God. If this ain't canon then idk what is.
THE CHERRY BLOSSOM PETALS-
And right after All Might says that the suit was funded with Bakugo at the heart of it đ like that look in his eyes, do y'all see it too
That's the realization that he's in love and no one can tell me otherwise.
It's the moment he realizes that they didn't leave him behind and that his Kacchan was the one at the heart of all of it. (Also, the way "with young Bakugo at the heart of it" is worded kind of feels like a reference at all that heart symbolism between them, like the "control your heart" one. Seems like they wanna hint at something by using the heart symbolism again đ¤ hmmmm maybe that they LOVE each other and their hearts belong to each other, huhh? Haaaaaah?)
There are so many arts with the two of them together under cherry blossom petals and I just can't-
And yeah people can argue that there are also petals falling in this panel:
But the cherry blossom doesn't only mean love, it also symbolizes end and new beginnings, and that's exactly what this panel about.
However, there is a superstition that says that catching three cherry blossom petals will make your wish of love come true.
Well, well, well...
Isn't it so coincidental that we have an official art showing literally the exact same thing?
And people have pointed out before that Bakugo has already caught a petal here, which means on some level he has already realized his feelings for Izuku, while Deku still hasn't caught up on it yet.
Well, ladies and gentlemen.
The time has finally arrived. All it took was the realization that Kacchan never gave up on him.
There are three petals on the panel that come seemingly out of nowhere. Seems oddly specific, doesn't it? Well, all I can say is: We won, guys.

This is the public statement from @alepresser and myself which went up at Webtoons tonight.
Now for some ranting. Just from me, not from Aleâshe's innocent of the art crimes I've committed in the past, and boy howdy have I committed art crimes.
This is the first page of my first webcomic, A Girl and Her Fed. I started this thing back in 2006. (I don't actually need a head count of those reading this who weren't yet born in 2006. I'm sure you're delightful and I wish you well in college.)
And this is the last page I drew in early 2020 before I turned art duties over to Dr. Beer. It's better, right?
Well, these days, A Girl and Her Fed has pages like this:
I drew this comic for fourteen fucking years because it's a story I wanted to tell, and I thought webcomics were the perfect format for it. I didn't know how to draw. I got better through sheer obstinate perseverance and sticking to deadlines as best I could for, again, fourteen fucking years. I sought out a replacement artist when I ran into time constraints and couldn't do art plus writing anymore; I'm a much better writer than an artist, so I had no problems whatsoever kicking art to the curb.
The first time Ale sent me art that would go up on the websiteâart I hadn't needed to draw myselfâI literally cried in relief because I had been grinding myself down for, yet again, fourteen fucking years.
So when I read comments from people who say they want to make a webcomic but can't draw themselves and therefore need to resort to AI, that little line between my eyes gets dangerously deep.
This isn't like I'm some old dude who's bitching over student loans getting cancelled after making regular payments. This is me, someone who threw raw art onto the internet like a monkey hurling fresh poo, because I wanted to make a webcomic and the art is part of the process of storytelling via webcomics! I could've (arguably should've) hired an artist right out of the gate, and that would've been part of the process of making comics, too: a partnership between an artist and a writer is also something which grows and develops over time.
For example, after Dr. Beer and I spent two years working on AGAHF, we decided we enjoyed our partnership so much that we set out to make another webcomic! It's great! It's got wonderful art and consistent storytelling! You should read it!
But turning art duties over to unaltered images generated by AI because you want to make a webcomic but "just can't draw" is, frankly, a bullshit excuse. I'm not talking about persons who are physically unable to draw due to disabilityâI'm talking about people who say they want to make webcomics but simply don't wanna do the art part.
Friends, if you don't want to show your entire ass in front of God and country, you don't actually want to make a webcomic.
Do the thing yourself.
If you're scared, don't be. Take the plunge. Set a goal of twenty strips and do the thing yourself. If you can already draw but can't write? Great! Write twenty strips, write forty panels, etc. You might surprise yourself. If you can write but can't draw? Great! Draw twenty panels and see what happens.
Whatever comes out of it, it's a thing you've done yourself. It's something new you've given to the world, no matter how big or small. Be proud of that. And if you need to partner with someone else to make your comic dreams work? You can do that, too! It's still a thing you've done yourself, and many projects are stronger when done together.
...but maaaaaaaaaybe hire that partner before you've busted your own ass for fourteen fucking years. That one's on me.

DEALING WITH A BROKEN HEART!
featuring: gojo satoru. itadori yuuji. megumi fushiguro. nanami kento.
how they would comfort you after youâre rejected by your crush! (requested)
n. didnât proofread n i wrote this at midnight cz i still hafta catch up on my reqs. iâm only a hooman guys!! so pls sorry for any typos or mistakes ajhauns and i specifically chose this manga panel 4 OBVIOUS reasons . .
GOJO SATORU. âwanna know what iâm thinking?â he started, glancing at you from the corner of his eye, âitâs their loss! obviously, they donât have great taste.â
you managed a weak smile, shaking your head. âthanks, satoru. but it still . . hurts.â
gojo leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees and giving you a serious look that was rare for him. âlook, i get it. rejection sucks. but honestly, youâre way out of their league.â
then you raised an eyebrow, unable to hold back a small laugh. âreally? you think so?â
he nodded emphatically, his usual smirk returning. âduh, absolutely. i mean, who wouldnât want to be with someone as amazing as you? theyâre probably just too intimidated by your awesomeness.â
you rolled your eyes, but the humor in his words did frankly lift your spirits a bit. âyouâre just saying that.â
ânope, iâm dead serious.â gojo straightened up, putting a hand over his heart. âin fact, iâm starting to think i should be worried. youâre gonna have a line of people trying to win you over, and iâll have to fend them all off.â
ITADORI YUUJI. âhey,â he said softly, nudging your shoulder with his. âcâmere, i feel you need a hug.â
you looked up at him, your eyes misty, and saw the genuine care in all over, very clear midst his expression. without a word, you leaned into him, and he wrapped his strong arms around you, holding you close. the warmth of his embrace began to melt the icy sadness in your heart.
âiâm really sorry,â he whispered, voice gentle. then he pulled back slightly, just enough to look into your eyes. âbut you donât have to go through this alone. letâs do something together to take your mind off things. how about a movie night?â
a small smile tugged at your lips despite the tears. âa movie night?â
âyeah!â he said, his pupils lighting up. âwe can watch whatever you want. comedy, action, even those cheesy romance movies you love.â
you laughed a little at that, appreciating his attempt to lift your spirits. âhmm okay, that sounds good.â
âgreat!â he stood up, offering you his hand. âand donât worry, iâll bring all the snacks. weâll have a proper movie marathon!â
FUSHIGURO MEGUMI. âum, do you want to talk about what happened?â megumi asked softly, his voice steady and inviting. âit might help to get it off your chest.â
you sighed as you felt the sting of tears threatening to fall. âi donât even know where to start,â mumbling the words above a murmur.
âthatâs okay. just take your time. iâm here to listen.â
for a moment, the two of you sat in silence. it wasnât uncomfortable, though. it was the kind of silence that felt like a warm embrace, giving you space to collect your thoughts. you glanced up at the sky, searching for the right words.
âthey just . . didnât feel the same way,â you finally said, voice cracking. âi thought there was something there, but i guess i was wrong.â
his gaze softened. ârejection is hard,â he then said quietly. âbut it doesnât define you. it doesnât change who you are or your worth.â
finding comfort in his steady presence, you looked at him. âi just feel so stupid for thinking there was a chance.â
âyouâre not stupid,â the guy replied firmly. âyou took a chance, and that takes courage. itâs okay to feel hurt, but donât let this make you doubt yourself.â
NANAMI KENTO. after a moment, nanami broke the silence. âyou deserve someone who sees how incredible you are. this just wasnât the right person.â
you glanced up at him, but your eyes filled with tears. âbut it felt like they were the right person,â you said, voice trembling. âhow could i have been so wrong?â
in a moment, his face softened, nanamiâs usual stoic demeanor giving way to concern. âitâs not about being wrong. sometimes, people just arenât capable of seeing whatâs right in front of them. you have so much to offer. one day, someone will see that and appreciate you for who you are.â
âit just hurts so much right now.â
he nodded, understanding. âitâs completely normal to feel this way. anyone would be upset. itâs a natural reaction to a difficult situation.â
you took a deep breath, trying to steady your emotions. âi just donât know what to do next.â
nanami leaned forward, his eyes earnest. âthen take your time to heal. focus on yourself and what makes you happy. youâre strong, and youâll get through this.â

Fragments - episodes 47-52 author notes
You can find similar breakdown posts on older episodes in my pinned!
Time to recap the first proper wolgraha miniarc. See what you mightâve missed, or simply enjoy the extra content in form of my rambling.
47 stands out as a bit disconnected, floaty, introspective episode fully focusing on Exarchâs pov. Iâve scattered some breadcrumbs for him throughout the entire comic, time to pick those up. He may be an oblivious fool in certain moments, but I believe he wouldnât keep insisting on staying deaf and blind when evidenceâs shoved in his face. So, this moment of recollection and rethinking marks the start of the canon divergence, all of his future actions are colored by this.
Vivi has a dire effect on some people even without trying to manipulate them.
The composition forms a star here :3c
This panel should make their likeness even more obvious, theyâre mirror reflections, albeit deliciously twisted ones. Also, the V sign is literally something that Vivi. Just. Does.
Exarch's heard from Vivi himself that they might be the same, Urianger literally tells him to go to a mirror and ponder, but when he does, and tries to look a bit more like he imagines Vivi, he can't stand what he sees in the mirror. They still aren't the same in his heart of hearts, even if reality itself tries to prove otherwise.
Hidden Angst Time! I can only hope that most readers are familiar with the flashback bubbles by now, and that this panel reads as it should: Feo Ul embraces Exarch while pointing out that theyâre also being ostracized by their kind. Though the ultimate fae wisdom lies in accepting something the way it is, and just not caring too much.
More under the cut~Â
*rewinds all the way back to episode 1* hehe
âDoes a hero have to be happy about his jobâ is one of my personal fav lines so far, I think it hits hard, pointing not only at Vivi, but at Exarch as well, and the visual supports it. I think this encapsulates Exarchâs ideology.
Exarchâs GASP could be interpreted as saying GASP out loud, which only makes it funnier.
Vivi carefully plans his entrance in order to make the atmosphere less formal. Approaching normally just wouldnât do it. Also he just feels relaxed and safe to be silly. Remember how lowkey he was since his arrival to the First? His behavior all but contradicted what I said and showed about him in the ARR arc and outside of the comic.
Well, thatâs in the past now. Heâs finished assessing the situation and concluded that itâs okay to be more himself.
Feo Ul's upset that Exarch used his âradarâ to detect Viviâs ambush while theyâd just used a similar ability to make sure that no emet-selchs are around.
If you catch a flirty vibe from Vivi in this episode, you're correct.
Vivi when he's remotely interested in a man:
My flavor of lampshading the obvious exposition dump. Oh Exarch, you asked for this, no take-backsies.
Another few hard-hitting questions from Exarch. It's easy to gloss over these, but if you slow down and think, it's decent angst material. Has anyone ever been concerned about Vivi's feelings, or was it more convenient to look away, even if intently, even if both sides knew they're better off not talking about that, for there's indeed no wol replacement. What good does acknowledging the situation if you canât change it.
This's Vivi's memory, thus he appears small against the looming forms of the world leaders. Rigid, formal, impersonal. Raha's memories of the Ironworks seem to have a different vibe, despite all the parallels of the duty imposed by the world on one special guy. Also yeah I do wanna make my own version of the 8UC timeline and characters someday, for now these are just random characters that I consider as placeholders. And the dunmeshi cameo xâD
Yes, he mocks the people that he's saved. He's VERY frustrated with his job.
I offer you a fun game: spot all the mannerisms that make Vivi and Emet so alike. I genuinely never thought about this until this year, while this scene's pretty damn old, i.e. Vivi's always been like this, it precedes my Emet brainrot.
I swear that this line also was there before my Emet brainrot, but now it makes for a hilarious kind of foreshadowing.
You could already tell how "fit" he is for solving trolley problems.
Thisâs his âoops I talked too much shitâ face.
The way Exarch just quietly TURNS and LOOKS at Vivi cracks me up. Don't undermine the tone with random jokes, dammit. But is this random? Iâve already analyzed this moment somewhere but for the sake of keeping important things in one place: they wrestle for control here. Exarch winds up for something serious, while Vivi wants to steer the convo towards more casual. It does somewhat lower the tension, though Exarch doesnât relinquish his lead in the convo.
This doesnât save him from becoming Frank forever from here on.
This miniarcâs rich with raw, hard-hitting words, so Iâll bring this up again.
Weâre finally getting the explanation and context for a lot of previous episodes:
And the following episodes only help driving this point home. Vivi already sees the First as a viable escape from the Source with all of its shitty people and endless problems.
"This's why I... enjoy my time away from the Source": even at this seemingly high level of trust between them Vivi won't openly tell Exarch about his plans to stay here, a variable he doesn't want to become a risk.
Yes, he does an entirely calculated and strategic flop. A literal thirst trap.
Meme provided by my discord server:
Vivi casts provoke, it's..... not effective
^ Thisâs one of my personal fav exarchs Iâve ever drawn DADDY PLS
A panel that everyone loved to bits :>
I pair angst with other flavors to make it fun and non-repetitive. It's not "boohoo I can never kiss my hero, the world will end if I do, I'm so aggravated with myself", it's the hooded Exarch (duty) being mad at the unhooded Exarch (human), and delivering the same notion in a fun exchange. You can't help but laugh at the comical chibi violence, at the same time you acknowledge that it's a pretty fucked up act of suppressing one's innate human desires.
It's not a date, they just sit and talk <- the water in which Exarch is being slowly boiled.
I rarely talk about the visuals, but here I intended to make it look like a magical moment frozen in time. It's immersive, whimsical, full of color and movement. Despite the perceived warmth, the composition splits them apart, they're alone together. Itâs still Rahaâs pov, Vivi doesnât seem to have any fond memories of the Source at all, we only hear about the past from his current jaded self.
An in-universe acknowledgment of the ARR arc lasting only 11 episodes xâD Though itâs all by design, it was meaningful only to Raha, while being a forgettable blip in time for Vivi.
Episode 52 opens with.... *drumroll*
NIP SLIP
I lovingly rendered that nip and Iâll make you look at it.
Ibuprofen meme would be the first thing that comes to mind, but consider the better/worse caption: "come to daddy". In all seriousness though, itâs a cool panel that I wanted to appreciate again. This IS Viviâs pov.
The grimy beaten up Vivi creates questions that are answered in episode 53, which is yet to be released publicly at the moment of writing this. Some episodes, like 52-53 and 42-43, come in pairs that only make sense together due to the non-linear storytelling.
Yes thisâs Aymeric, no I wonât say anything else :â> One thing thatâs worth noting is the face Vivi makes here. And the distant, emotionless tone with which he recalls the moment of his own near-death.
Lemme spell it out even more plainly: Vivi romanticizes the moment he almost died. Exarch just happened to be present in that moment, and Vivi latched on to him as someone who would grant him escape, freedom, peace.
âA kindly wizard from fairytalesâ. I regret to inform you that we have two delusional fucks on our hands. Both see each other as some kinda dreamt up, idealized, mythical figures.
This miniarc isnât over yet, but Iâm wrapping up the recap here. Thanks for reading till the end~

Alright, I'm just gonna bite the bullet. Worst that can happen is I make a fool of myself. I've been working on superhero stories, versions of the same universe since I was in 8th grade and what I want more than anything is to modernize superheroes, create a world where they act for all people's social good and take representation to the highest level I can think of. From your position of expertise, what can I do with the creation of disabled characters that would buck the trend, do some good, and show a good side. The non-prosthetic and non-corrected for disability rep in the genre is basically nil, I have no ideas and nothing to draw on. I guess I just wanna know what disabled audiences might like to see for once in their lives.
Hello!
Disabled superheroes are awesome. There's really few of them but the ones that we do have are often really important to us - you can look at the reactions to Sun-Spider being first introduced to the Spiderverse, back then I couldn't open my fridge without seeing that one panel where she explicitly says she has Ehlers-Danlos.
Here are a few suggestions of what I'd like to see in the superhero genre:
Superheroes with facial differences. Comics love to use us for their ugly disfigured evil villains but not much else unfortunately. I'd kill for a superman type hero who saves people with a smile and a facial difference on his face. Especially for superhero stories that are geared towards kids and teens, we just desperately need something to help with shifting the public perception of people with facial differences from "evil and ugly" to "people that can be awesome". A hero with burn scars, with Treacher Collins syndrome, Bell's palsy, neurofibromatosis... anything.
Superheroes who use disability aids (and still need them when doing their job!). Sun-Spider is an awesome example, she swings from her crutches and has a spider wheelchair. That's cool as hell. But even a less in-your-face aid would be great. A superhero flying above the city with her ankle-foot orthoses visible would go really hard. Also, superheroes who are concerned on how much these things cost and try their best to make sure they're still functional while they save the city.
Heroes with different causes of their disabilities! The vast majority of morally good disabled characters were involved in An Accident or some sort of Attack that disabled them. That's not bad or wrong at all, but I think in media is kind of oversaturated with this specific portrayal when a lot of people have progressive or congenital conditions. We need more stories that show those who were born disabled as heroes equal to those who were born abled and spent most of their lives abled. Superheroes with cerebral palsy, chromosomal disorders, congenital rubella, achondroplasia, all the disabilities that tend to get ignored despite so many people having them. Same for really common chronic illnesses, diabetes or COPD are criminally underrepresented.
Disabled superheroes that aren't saints because of their disability. This is the whole "disabled person can do no wrong" trope that appears sometimes. I'm mentioning it since superheroes are more "perfect" than most characters in other genres, so try to not make it so the disabled ones can do no wrong. Disabled people can still make mistakes that are their fault, make poor decisions, or just simply be angry sometimes.
When there's no active superhero action going on, show the normal human parts of the disabled experience. Depending on the demographic you're writing for it would be different things, but there are some fairly universal concepts like inaccessibility, microaggressions, or just boring things like the prosthetic leg no longer fitting well after the character gained some weight. If your characters are from the US, don't be afraid to mention that their insulin costs are barely affordable with their superhero pay. Show how the common everyday kind of ableism affect them when they're in civilian mode. This will make it much more authentic to disabled readers.
These are my suggestions, and I hope they are helpful. My last advice is to have multiple disabled characters, and in different roles. Maybe a character with late ALS can no longer do superhero fighting, but he can still be a wonderful parent. Maybe the character with Usher syndrome is more interested in the hero than being a hero themselves (disabled heroes in relationships!). Maybe the character with phocomelia can't be a hero yet because she's six, but she can train hard to be one when she's older. Keep it varied, have them come from different life situations and have different goals just like abled characters do.
I hope this helps!

what steps do you go through to draw in your current style? do you have any pointers about it? its absolutely one of my favorites
i'm not sure if i think of my process in steps. in my head, i'm just straightforwardly drawing the shapes the characters are made of at angles that look right and building on that... luckily, i stream when i draw every day, so i have a ton of videos of myself drawing. example:
youtube
i haven't bothered to upload a lot of the modern streams to youtube because my video editor can't handle editing 4-8 hour files even if i'm speeding them up and technically making them shorter because of the way video editors interact with files, and the freeware i use isn't able to make proxy files. the act of downloading and editing and combing through all the footage is a ton of time and memory space and it's just not what people are usually looking for from me, so it's not where i wanna put my time.
but that's neither here nor there. what i mean to say is these vods are really long. so you don't want to rawdog those. but you can just download a video speed controller extension to your browser and it's extremely easy to cruise through the backlog of vods at ~15x speed.
i've gone ahead and highlighted some of the recent videos to separate the chaff from the wheat. i tend to take long breaks to eat or walk my dog so there are big periods of Nothing Happening. i'll try to skim some more and do the same. unfortunately, i don't have any good videos of me coloring, since twitch deletes vods after like a month, and i've just been focusing on sketching.
but yeah, in general, it really depends on how good i'm feeling on a given day -- sometimes i will sketch multiple times for just one panel and sometimes i won't sketch at all. i use paint tool sai 2 and a pixel brush usually 2 pixels wide with no pen pressure. for comics, i have 1 layer for the panel borders, 1 layer for the sketch, 1 layer for the lines, 1 layer for the colors, 1 layer for the text, and 1 layer speech bubbles. sometimes there are special effects that overlap borders and need their own special layers. when i start sketching a new panel, i will usually put it on its own new layer, and sometimes for multiple characters i will put them on another new layer at a different opacity. this is mostly to move them around without constant cleanup. once i've gotten a sketch pretty finished, i merge all of the layers into the sketch layer. the line layer is usually just the sketch layer cleaned up and paint bucket tooled black. but basically, the vast majority of my time working on art is spent trying to fix small things like tangents, fitting speech bubbles into panels, thinking about how to lay out a page, checking continuity interaction with other pages, that kind of stuff. the complex technical parts of the process are to save time on those in ways i can without compromising quality. the other portion of working on the art is like "step 1: draw head circle (or jessie head diamond). step 2: draw the rest of the owl." i don't know if this was helpful at all y_y if you want more pointers i might be able to offer clarity on more specific questions!

part 4/7
the lil law bein held by luffy is v important to me
[op comic masterpost]
[pg1] Panel 1: Law: ...
Panel 2: Law: ...Bepo knows. Luffy: Penguin and Shachi too I assume? Law: They better not. I swore Bepo to secrecy. He only knows cuz he's the one who figured it out. Luffy: Got it
Panel 3: Luffy: So you wanna start with the pros or cons? Law: Pfft, you know. Luffy: Okay. I don't think it would make you feel very good. Law: I'm already sick all the damn time. Luffy: You know what I mean Law [talking over Luffy]: I know what you mean.
Panel 4: Luffy: We sail on different ships Law: I don't know obstetrics Luffy: My family doesn't have a great dad track record Law: Most of my crew doesn't know that I'm trans, so I'd have to come out Law: We're pirates Luffy: You can't count that, there's already kids on my ship Law: Fine Law: We can't make our crews stay together just because we want to. Law: People might think my crew is under yours and that would not go well. Luffy: So if we wanted to stay together we'd probably have to leave for awhile like Usopp did. Law: What if she's got white lead disease?
Panel 5: Luffy: You already cured tha-- wait did you say she? Law: Oops. Luffy: Oops? Why oops? Law: Listen, I needed all of the available information. Luffy: Any more to share? Law: Um. It's been about 12 weeks. Luffy: Since what? Law: Okay nevermind I have no more information that will mean anything to you.
Panel 6: Luffy: ...Why does that make it different? Law: ...I don't know, but it happened to me too. Not that it means it's a girl. But assigning a pronoun...I think I've gone soft. Wouldn't have meant anything a decade ago.
[pg2] Panel 7: Luffy: Me too. I think this'll be easier if we just say 'it.' Law: You're right. But I tried. And even when I do, when I close my eyes I just see this kid that looks like you.
Panel 8: Luffy & Law: ...
Panel 9: Luffy: Fuck Law: I know Luffy: You can't just say shit like that. Law: I'm sorry.
Panel 10: Luffy: Well now we know it's an option. We could always plan for it later. Law: But it also could be a fluke. Honestly with all the shit I do to my body it's a wonder she made it so far without me knowing. Luffy: It's cuz she's mine.
Panel 11: Law: Fuck Luffy: That was supposed to be an inside thought Law: You don't have those. This is a terrible idea. Luffy: I agree Law: So we agree we shouldn't do this.
Panel 12: Law & Luffy: ...
[pg3] Panel 13: Luffy: Everyone expects us to be docked here for a week. So I don't think we have to decide right now.
Panel 14: Law: Yeah. Yeah good point. Law: And if I can just use the Sunny's library...I'm sure Kaya's got some books in there that would...offer perspective.
Panel 15: Luffy: And we can keep thinking of pros and cons!
Panel 16: Law: And at the end of the week we can both write down what we think we should do Law: and we can compare answers.
Panel 17: Luffy: It's a plan! Law: It's a plan.

The appeal of One Piece
I know everyone's a bit sour on One Piece after the clown stunt tumblr pulled, but with the live-action series out and the anime popping off on social media, there's more eyes on this goofy pirate story than ever, and I've been dying to talk about it, so now's the time.
A lot of the conversation around One Piece is steeped in hyperbole, and it's hard not to be hyperbolic when you're talking about a work of almost unprecedented length and popularity. With that in mind, I wanna try to explain what makes One Piece so good in a way that is concise, spoiler-free, and that will give you an idea if this might actually be a story you'll enjoy.
And I do actually think a lot of people who would enjoy One Piece are currently writing it off, and I think a lot of the blame lies on assumptions people have about shonen as a genre. One Piece is no doubt a shonen, with young and teen boys as the primary demographic, but it is also first and foremost an adventure story about a group of quirky outcasts setting out to follow their dreams, despite (or often in spite of) the crushing weight of reality.
But you can't have an adventure story without a world to set that adventure in, and what a world Eiichiro Oda has crafted. One Piece manages to feel like it has fully realized an entire planet, with every island we travel to having a very distinct sense of culture and visual identity. A lot of care has gone into building the history and politics of these places, and the mechanics by which their more out-there elements, like the sky-high ocean geyser or the mountain with an upside-down waterfall, function. As such, it is a setting that afford its story a lot of variety, while also being able to tackle a lot of very heady topics like authoritarianism, racism, and abuse in intelligent, nuanced ways.
But just as important as all of islands we visit are the wonderful characters we meet. A lot of people aren't into One Piece's exaggerated cartoon aesthetic, and I respect that, but it does lend itself to a lot of very unique faces and body types that make its cast of 1000+ characters a joy to behold. This is admittedly less true of the more conventionally attractive women, many of whom look very similar, but this is does not extend to their writing. Oda is very good at imbuing his characters with life, pulling on their histories to give them personalities and quirks that are often as funny as they are sad. Everyone I know that reads One Piece has a side character that they stan hardcore for, be it the lovable klutz Donquixote Rocinante or the petulant ghost girl Perona.
And all of this is especially true for our protagonists, the Straw Hat Pirates, each one of which is a deep, multifaceted character whose drive and dreams can be traced back to their often heartbreaking origins. I know I mentioned it at the top already, but at its core, One Piece is ultimately a story about a group of hurt, lonely individuals who find in each other not just friends, but a family that will support and protect them as together they chase their dreams in the face of a world whose systems have been built to squash them underfoot.
All of this is brought together by Oda's exceptional artistic skill. While as mentioned earlier, One Piece's cartoony artstyle isn't for everyone, it's by no means an accident. One Piece is a story set in a cartoon world, and Oda is able to give even his most ridiculous characters and places a tangible sense of physicality, making everything feel real within the confines of the page. While Oda has a team of assistants to help him, he still does the brunt of the art himself, and his dedication to his craft means the comic is full of panels that are breathtaking in their complexity and visual density.
But it's not just his technical skill that makes the art of One Piece so good, it's that Oda is also very good at letting his art speak for him. Compared to a lot of other big shonen manga, One Piece doesn't lean as heavily on the dialogue to give the readers all the necessary information, but can convey a lot of what is happening and how characters are thinking and feeling through its artwork. There's some sections where this doesn't hold as true (and they are frequently less well-liked as a result) but it makes One Piece a far lighter read than its soon to be 1100 chapter-count would make you believe.
But the thing I think makes One Piece the most exceptional of all, and what makes me recommend it despite its length, is that as a story, One Piece has a remarkable clarity of vision. One Piece has a stance and a worldview that it does not waver on, and it is present from the very beginning. It's is romantic story, about the power of faith and dreams, about people's right to be free and be who they want to be, and about how the beauty and wonder of the world makes its worth its danger and uncertainty.
One Piece knows what it wants to be from the very beginning, and because of that you don't have to wait for it to get good. A problem that a lot of longform media struggles with is that the opening hours are a slog to get through, because it doesn't show you its hand early enough for you to know if it's something you'll like, and that is not a problem One Piece has. It is exactly what it is going to be from the beginning, only in a simpler, cruder form that it is going to expand upon to become the sprawling pirate fantasy epic it has grown to be. This clarity of vision also makes One Piece very rewarding for attentive readers, as it frequently hints at future places and characters, and plants story seeds that it pays off hundreds of chapters later. It does a lot to make the world feel big and interconnected, and makes One Piece very fun to re-read as you pick up on things you missed the first time around.
It is frequently recommended that new readers start with the initial 100 chapters, the East Blue saga (which is what the live action series adapts, for the record), to see if One Piece is right for them, and that's the note I am going to end this post on, as well. East Blue uses its 100 chapters to tell a fairly self-contained story that introduces the first half of the core cast, setting the stakes and building its world while giving you plenty of interesting places, bizarre creatures, and wacky action all the while. It is One Piece showing you its hand, with the promise that if you like what you see, it'll have so, so much more in store for you
