'You’re the only person who’s ever seen me,'
A line forms between Alice's brows, and she blinks once, lets out a harsh little exhale like she's having trouble listening and absorbing.
There had to have been— so many people in Jack's life. Parents and cousins and relatives and friends and his wife, his daughter, and.
People at work, too. People he met from every walk of life. Alice knows that relation, and friendship, and a marriage license does not automatically mean closeness or understanding— but still.
The fact that Jack has listened to Alice's writing once, heard the words plucked from her brain in the pool, over the span of three days, and feel that?
It feels startling. And humbling. And mystifying and dizzying and too big for her to even grasp her in her hands.
It feels like the ultimate compliment of her writing and her soul.
Alice swallows and stares, enchanted and enraptured as Jack continues to talk— there's something in his eyes. Alice has no idea where it will go. All she knows is that she can't look away.
'When I agreed to do this interview, I already knew how it was going to go. Whoever showed up would start asking me about gun legislation and public healthcare and why the Equality Act has never seemed to make it out of committee. Or — I don’t know. They’d grill me about my divorce. They’d push wherever it hurt. How did my marriage only last one year? What’s my relationship like with my father, who is a well known and outspoken conservative? And even though my team laid out some ground rules, ones that ensured that the reporter couldn’t ask about my arrest last December, they would anyway. They’d ask if I had a drinking problem. Or a drug problem. And I’d probably blow up and ruin the whole fucking thing anyway.'
They'd push wherever it hurt.
Jack had expected the reporter, her, to push where it hurt, like pressing down hard on a wound. His wife leaving, after only a year. His father. The drinking, the alcohol, the arrest, the media storm and the fallout and his daughter, the loss of his daughter. Jack was expecting to hurt like that, and instead, he says, in the most disbelieving tone ... he got Alice.
It makes her stomach flip. Jack says this as if getting Alice was the best, must unforeseen gift in the world.
The way she doesn't ask the questions that will flay him open and hurt him. The way Alice can see into his skull anyway, according to Jack.
Of course that was scary.
Alice feels scared, to know she matters like that— how can she ever deserve it? At the same time all Alice wants to do is deserve it.
When Alice lets her gaze wonder, even just a little bit, she can see the tremor in Jack's hands— even though they sat laced tightly by his thighs. It makes tender concern flood through her. A burning desire, and a question, wondering maybe if she kissed those hands enough, they'd stop the shaking.
Or would that make it worse? Alice doesn't want to make it worse. There's a lot of emotion in her chest, and clearly a lot in Jack's, and as stunned as she is right now, it's such a privilege to feel it— feeling it right now in the dark theater feels like a vast privilege she doesn't deserve.
Especially listening to Jack talk about her like this.
'Not only are you the best writer in the world, but you might actually be the most powerful person in the world.'
Alice's jaw sets, molars clenched to the point they might crack, and for a long moment she is stuck in Jack's eyes. Such perfect blue eyes, the color of the ocean when it's submerging a giant shelf of shale, the color of the sky, when Alice would glance up at it from beneath the mist of the waterfall. The color of the pool, sparkling underneath the summer sky, the surface rippling, distorted only by Jack and Alice entering. Blue like the base of a flame— the hottest part. Hot like her belly when Jack looked at her like that.
Powerful? If anyone, that's Jack. Stuck in his thrall. She has no idea how to translate everything storming and swirling in her chest into writing.
"I almost want you to. Tell me to throw my life away. I will.'
Alice inhales sharply. His hand is at her cheek now, and Alice thinks he must be able to feel her pulse, how her heart is about to burst through her chest.
What to even say? What to even say to the man who announces he'll throw his life away at her bidding?
He almost wants her to ask.
"....Why would you think that's what I want you to do?" Alice smiles at him gently. Tilts forward til she's sitting on her knees, eyes fixed solely on him.
"You tell me all these beautiful things, you make me feel not crazy for everything that I've written, all the pages on my computer, writing about you like I've known you for years, validating what I see, validating how it feels like I've known you forever, and this feeling in my chest that's making me write about you without stopping, and you trust me, and you talk to me like this—"
Exhale. Alice can hear the blood whooshing around in her head, actually.
"I will never ask you to do anything like that."
Alice hand raises, and captures his wrist, and squeezes. A firm squeeze. Trying to be grounding, deliberate, but her own pulse is rabbiting.
"That's not what I want from you..."
"Why would I hear all that, and ask you to do anything except be happy?"
Alice insisted that it wasn’t true. Jack was going to have to help her understand just how incredible she was. She seemed to renege every compliment that Jack sent her way — out of humility, he knew, but it just … was so obvious that she was the most talented person in the world. Certainly the most talented writer. Couldn’t she see that?
Alice said something that almost made Jack laugh out loud. It seemed crazy … coming from him? Didn’t most people fucking hate politicians? Especially ones like Jack — with multiple houses and cars and who seemed to shirk responsibility at every turn in life? No. Alice had it all wrong. Jack was nothing compared to Alice.
Alice who could create worlds and new emotions with just a few sentences.
She reached over, grasped at his t-shirt. Jack held his breath because he could’ve dipped forward and kissed her hand so easily. Those perfect, delicate fingers that aided Alice in crafting the most beautiful sentences he’d ever heard.
Jack was still reeling, but the more time that passed, the more he seemed to be overflowing with things that he wanted to say to Alice. And his words wouldn’t be nearly as perfect as Alice’s — he understood that — but they’d be sincere.
So fucking sincere that it scared Jack.
Alice only seemed to be concerned with hoping that she got Jack right. That she’d seen him the right way.
“You’re the only person who’s ever seen me,” he blurted out. Once he started, he couldn’t stop.
“God. I might actually be insane — saying that out loud. Admitting that to someone that I just met. A reporter.”
Jack paused, shaking his head preemptively.
“I don’t mean that in a bad way. But. A reporter. You’re here to … I don’t know, write some stuff about my career. Maybe make people feel a little sorry for me. Or make them really hate me. That’s why you’re here.”
Jack was ranting and raving about a whole lot of nothing, but if he wasn’t allowing himself to kiss Alice, he had to fucking find something to do with his mouth, right?
“When I agreed to do this interview, I already knew how it was going to go. And I’d probably blow up and ruin the whole fucking thing anyway.”
“And instead, I get you.”
Jack scoffed, shaking his head in disbelief. Because — how the fuck?
“Somehow, I get … you.”
Slowly, Jack pumped on the brakes. He slowed down a little. Caught his breath.
“I get you. And maybe you’ve written some stuff about my career, but you’ve also written … that.”
Jack scratched the back of his head, attempting to make sense of it all. No, this didn’t align somehow. If karma was a thing — no. Something was off. This couldn’t be real.
“And when you write something like that … it’s like you’re looking right into my skull somehow. Like you know everything I’ve ever thought or will think. And it’s fucking … terrifying.”
Jack exhaled. He hadn’t noticed that his hands were shaking, from how hard he’d clasped them together. He released before he couldn’t feel his fingers anymore. Hah. That’s what she did to him. Day three.
What would happen on day four?
“Not only are you the best writer in the world, but you might actually be the most powerful person in the world.”
Jack surged forward, a little terrified that his impulsivity had won over. No. He could stay in control here. This was too important. He pressed a hand to the side of Alice’s face. He stared. Scanned her features. The delicate arch of her eyebrows. The bluest, kindest eyes he’d ever seen. He didn’t dare look at her mouth.
“When you write like that,” Jack began, voice low and quiet, “it makes me feel … insane. It makes me feel so good. Powerful. Except — you could ask me to do anything right now, and I would.”
Resign from office? Done.
Buy her a new car? Okay, what else?
Walk into traffic? That’s it?
Jack’s hand remained firmly at the side of Alice’s face, thumb brushing over her cheekbone.
"I almost want you to. Tell me to throw my life away. I will."

Midnight Cravings || CL16
type :: smut - blurb
tw/cw :: cock warming, edging?, somnophilia, pinch of size kink
summary :: being a f1 driver means he's constantly grinding on the stim. you can relate since you're always grinding on him
f1 masterlist || f2 masterlist || OVULATING CELLY!!!
Everyone says you're so lucky for marrying a rich man, which you are! You don't have to pay for a single thing: bills, clothes, makeup, food, anything! But the only thing you did need to do was keep him satisfied, which Charles will always say you do.
He's on his stim, yet again. He needed to perfect his laps for the upcoming race. With Hamilton as his new partner, he was a tad bit scared. The idea of being replaced used to seem like an insane idea. But after seeing Carlos be tossed away: Charle's newest nightmare was no longer "box box" but instead "I also understand it was never going to be Charles."
So you're there with him, comforting him in the best way possible. His dick buried deep inside of you while you watch him race. Your back was against his chest with his chin resting on your shoulder. You're sure that this angle is going to hurt his neck, but he simply shushes you and says his neck is one of his strongest muscles.
And if you don't shut up, then he'll quickly pause the game and make you shut up.
"It's almost 12am Charles," You say softly as you watch him restart the lap after slightly messing up on a turn. "You need to rest."
"Just..." He stops as he locks in at a hard turn. "Just a few more." he insists.
You huff, shifting you legs slightly. Moving was strictly against Charle's rules for cock-warming on the stim. Only he was allowed to move and pick when you two could fuck. The main reason being that last time you topped him, the stim broke. From "water" damage, is what he told Ferrari so they'd send him a new one.
"Stop that." He demands, his tone was quick as he continued to race He knew you wouldn't disobey him twice.
So you sat there, just staring at the screen. Patiently waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting... Gosh you're so sleepy. And you can't resist the urge to shut your eyes, so you do.
And before Charles knows it, you're fast asleep with his dick still deep inside of you. Filling you up to the top, barely brushing against the tippy top of your insides. You thank God that Charles wasn't any bigger or else you'd be sent to the hospital every day.
Once Charles is satisfied, he lets out a sigh of relief as he looks down at you for once. Seeing your peaceful face and trust in him made him so soft inside. But his dick was the opposite, if anything it was harder. Now his new task to complete was to see how he could cum without waking you up.

dedicated to ☾ ⋆・゚:⋆・゚
summary: you, an author, get invited to a talk show for your first novel, but there’s a surprise in store for you.
⋆ ★ ln x reader ░
⋆ ★ fluff + humour ░
masterlist ☾☼
your first novel was a huge success.
a dream come true for you.
it wasn't just the success part really. it was everything. from writing, editing, cover options, editing again, and then publishing. the process was exhausting but so, so fulfilling.
your book had also caused quite a craze among the formula one fans. you had an inkling why that may be. maybe, just maybe, it had something to do with your dedication.
Dedicated to Lando Norris, my green flag inspiration.
yeah, it was definitely because of that.
since you were an indie author, it was absolutely crazy to you when you were invited on a talk show to discuss your book!! the day you'd received the news, you had jumped on the bed! and then promptly fell to the floor, but that's fine.
on the day of your big day (!!), you had dressed up, listened to the encouraging voice notes your boyfriend had sent, since he was working, and then found yourself at the venue a half hour early.
you were excited, who's gonna sue you for that?
they'd gotten you to hair and make up, and they had attached a collar mic and they explained all the rules to you. god there were so many rules. why were there so many rules?
and then they were live!
you stood behind the curtains, watching as the talk show host welcomed the audience, made some jokes, and everyone laughed. you watched as they eventually took their seat, and began introducing your book without naming it. adding in a little touch of their own personal stories to make it relatable.
and then the host brought out your book, and announced your name, and the audience cheered! behind you, the assistant pushed you forward.
with a deep breath, you stepped forward and on set. the crowd cheered louder and you smiled and waved.
"welcome, y/n!" the host said as you sat on the couch beside their couch.
you were glad the interview was in a slightly informal setting. it relaxed your nerves a little bit. the host themselves were sitting with their legs on the couch, tucked underneath them.
"hi! i'm so glad you could make it!" the host greeted you.
“i’m so glad i got invited in the first place! this is like a dream come true!” you exclaimed.
the crowd chuckled, clearly endeared by your excitement.
“now, i have to know, how did you get in the process of writing? according to my research, or stalking to be more accurate-” the audience laughed, as did you, “-you studied psychology?”
“actually, i’m still studying psychology. i’ve been working to get into sports psychology specifically. but um, i’ve always enjoyed writing, i’m always writing poems and short stories and stuff. when the idea for this book struck me, it was like the words had taken over my body and day and night i was only writing,”
“how did you get the idea for the book? like, what was your process?”
you sat up straighter, you loved talking about your book and all the things about the process. “i actually got an idea for the characters first. like, i made a character sketch for my main protagonists, and some of the side characters, and then i came up with a plot to suit the characters,”
“that’s usually not how it’s done, right? i’ve interviewed other authors before, and they’ve always come up with the plot first,”
“it’s definitely unconventional. for the longest time, my editor thought i was just lying about writing the book myself. she genuinely thought i had a ghost writer, because my process was just so weird,” you said, laughing a little bit.
“well, we certainly do know the inspiration behind your male main character,” the host teased, as your cheeks reddened, and the crowd broke out in synchronised “oooohs”
you laughed, shifting a little on the couch, “do we now?”
the host, who was still holding the book with the cover facing the audience, opened the book to the dedication page. turning to you, they said, “now, i’m a little old. so i can’t read very well-” the crowd broke out in scattered laughter, “-but could you read what it says right here?” they pointed to the text.
your smile widened and you said-you didn’t even have to read it-you said, “dedicated to lando norris, my green flag inspiration,”
the crowd burst out in cheers.
“do you know who lando norris is?” the host asked.
you made a confused face and exclaimed, “why would i add his name if i didn’t know who he was?”
the crowd laughed, as did the host, “no, no, no, i meant like, do you know him personally? like, beyond formula one? because why else would you add him as your green flag inspiration?”
“i actually- okay, i’ve been a huge fan of formula one all my life. like, i have weekends blocked on race days and stuff. and it was during one of his interviews- i don’t even remember which race it was- but there was a female interviewer-”
“oh, i’ve seen that clip!” the host said suddenly, jumping slightly.
“oh my god, you have? i love that clip!” turning to the audience, you explained, “there was a female interviewer who asked like, a really smart question about the car and the strategies and how it’s gonna help the team and all of that. it was during the championship battle between max and lando, and lando had complimented the interviewer and said that she always asks the best questions around. and then, a male interviewer who was standing right there called lando a liar and basically insinuated that lando wanted to-” you glanced slightly awkwardly towards the host as you spoke animatedly.
“wanted to sleep with her, yeah,” the host supplied. okay, good, so that was appropriate for you to say.
“yeah, exactly, and lando was just like no, that’s not true, i’m not lying-”
“and that was it for you? that gave birth to your male main character?”
“yeah. that was it for me. that gave birth to my male main character,”
the host kept the book down as the crowd cheered.
"well, y/n," the host started.
turning your entire attention on them, you said, "yes,"
"we've got a little surprise for you,"
"is it going to be someone jumping from somewhere because i don't want that surprise, i'm very happy without a surprise," you said, your eyes comically large.
the crowd laughed.
"we wanted to do that. your surprise said that they won't be able to do it without laughing, so then, we decided not to do that,"
you put your hands together and looked up at the ceiling, "thank you, surprise guest!"
the host laughed along with the crowd. you smiled.
standing, the host announced, "everyone! please welcome! lando norris!"
the crowd let out loud cheers and some even stood.
you stood as well. "what?" you screamed, though it was drowned by the deafening noise of the audience.
the doors opened, the same ones from where you entered, and lando norris walked in. he smiled and he waved. and when he looked at you- you with your hands covering your mouth, eyes tracking his every movement- he winked.
after shaking his hand with his host, he finally turned towards you.
"what are you doing here?" you asked, still not over your shock.
he wrapped an arm around your waist with ease, as you wrapped yours around your neck.
"i'm here to be your surprise guest!" he said, as he pulled back.
"this wasn't on the calendar!"
"i know. i had jon put it on his calendar, cause i knew i would forget it,"
the two of you were still standing in the middle of the stage, arms around each other, though yours had travelled down to settle at his torso, while his remained at your waist.
"is that why you had an early morning training session?" you asked.
"yeah, had to make sure i'm not late for this," he said, still smiling.
"as much as i'm loving the discussion of calendars and training sessions, i am really confused here," the host interrupted, and lando and you finally broke apart.
the two of you settled on the couch, side by side. thighs pressed together, but the hands to yourselves.
"now, what is this about a calendar?" they asked.
"we share one," lando answered simply.
"why?"
"because we live together," you answered.
"right. again, why?"
"people who love each other live together," lando explained like the host was five.
"who love each other?"
"we love each other." you said, using your thumb to point at lando and then you.
the host stared for a few seconds. lando and you looked around awkwardly during that time.
"so, what i'm hearing is that you two-" they pointed at the two of you, "-y/n y/l/n and lando norris love each other and live together and share a calendar,"
"yeah, it's just easier. with my constantly changing schedules, and y/n doing university and writing, its easier to just block time on our calendar so that neither of us really disturbs the other," lando said.
"right right. you two love each other and live together and share a calendar," the host repeated again.
leaning forward, you touched their arm, "are you okay?"
"do i look okay? no! i planned to surprise you!"
"i am surprised!" you defended yourself while lando laughed quietly in the background.
"but you two love each other and live-"
"-live together and share a calendar, yes," lando and you completed the sentence in unison.
the audience laughed.
"hold on, since when has this been going on?" the host asked.
you and lando exchanged a look, his fingers playing with the strands of your hair, "five years," you answered. lando nodded.
"five?" the host burst out.
"yeah,"
"how did you two meet?"
"he was driving, i was there to watch, i crashed into him, poured burning hot coffee all over his fireproofs and bam! we fell in love," you said.
"your delivery is so deadpanned, that i really can't tell whether this is true or not," the host said.
laughing, you leaned into lando, who pressed a kiss against your forehead, "well, the world just found out we've been together. gotta make them wait a little bit, stretch it out," lando said, laughing.
the conversation moved smoothly from there. they spoke about lando's career, and your career, and the three of you made jokes, and read snippets from your book, and lando laughed his high pitched laugh while holding your book, and honestly, right there was your dream come true.
later, after it was over, both you and lando were in the process of getting the mics removed, and everything. the two of you thanked everyone who had been a part of the process, and just before you two left, the host jogged towards you, a slip in their hand.
"this is my personal number. we're going to sit down and talk about all the tea i'm missing here," they said.
you graciously accepted the slip of number, laughing, and lando thanked them for the opportunity and said that they would call soon. bidding goodbye, the two to you began walking to lando's car.
his arm wrapped around your shoulder, "good day?"
you leaned up, pecking his lips, "perfect day,"
as the two of you settled in his car, you suddenly smacked his arm and said, "i can't believe you didn't tell me!"
lando laughed.

This page from the adventurer's bible makes me want to cry
Like basically any neurodivergent dungeon meshi fan, I see a lot of myself in the Touden siblings. But I was blindsided by just how much I suddenly related to Falin in this little comic from the adventure bible's complete version.
It's about the Touden siblings' differing relationships with their parents, and why Laios still holds their treatment of Falin against them, while Falin herself doesn't.
We know that Falin was isolated and ostraziced by their village after she saved Laios from a ghost, displaying her uncanny affinity for magic. Her parents, instead of defending her, sent her away, which angered Laios so much he ran way himself before Falin even left for magic school, hoping to make a living so he and Falin could live together alone.
He tells Marcile this, but when she goes to Falin, she says she sees things differently. Her father sent her to magic school to protect her form the rest of the village without having to cause a conflict. He didn't explain that, and we actually see her burst into tears when he says it.
But, well... Laios was gone for a year before Falin went to magic school, and everyone else in the village avoided her. The understanding Falin has with her parents to me looks like one borne out of necessity, she literally didn't have anyone else to talk to.
And this is where we get to the page that made me want to cry
Like I said, I relate to the Toudens because I'm neurodivergent myself. that feeling of suddenly realizing you're disliked, but not knowing what you did wrong or what you should have done instead? Yeah... that's one I recognize.
When I was around 9 years old, the same age Falin is in this comic, a bunch of kids in my class decided to make a "game" where you lost if you touched me. It was basically the 'cheese-touch' from diary of a wimpy kid, except I always had it and couldn't pass it along. They'd pretend I was poisonous or disgusting and run away from me screaming or gagging. The point was to make fun of me. But my autistic little 9 year old ass thought "Oh I get it! It's tag but I'm always it!" So I... played along. Running at a boy and having him fall on the ground screaming in fake pain because you tapped him is, in isolation, pretty funny.
It wasn't until months into the "game" that I realized it was meant to be meanspirited. That the reason I was the one who was always 'it' wasn't an arbritrary rule but the whole point. Because I was weird and gross. I wasn't in on the joke, I was the punchline.
Falin may have come to understand her parents' intentions, but she didn't always. The adventure bible actually tells us that she at first didn't even notice that the rest of their village disliked her. She clearly knows now, but she had to be told. So when her mom tried to exorcise her, she just saw it as an activity she got to do with a mother she usually didn't get to spend much time with because of her poor health. It's only Laios who notices something is wrong.
(Sidenote, Laios being hyper-aware of people's poor attitudes towards Falin but completely blindsided when he's in the same spot, like with Toshiro, is also very relatable as an eldest sibling)
It probably also took Falin months, until after her brother had left and she had no one but her parents, to realize why her mother had been doing all those things.
And I know they're not the same. Even misguidedly, Falin's mom was trying to help her, not make fun of her like those boys in my class. (Though, as a queer person who also cares a lot about the queercoding in Falin's storyline, a parent trying to 'exorcise' their child of a fundamental part of them the parent thinks is evil or corruptive? yeah... that's not perfectly wholesome)
But do you know what I did, when I finally figured out the game was always meant to make fun of me?
To me, it looked like I had a choice.
See, those boys eventually figured out I didn't understand that they were being mean to me. I'd laugh every time I managed to catch one of them, I was visibly having fun. And while it no doubt only made me more of a weirdo in their eyes, they never informed me that I shouldn't be enjoying myself. That the point was for me to feel hurt.
So now that I did know, I had a choice. I could either get upset, and let the insult land as it was supposed to. That wouldn't stop them, because making fun of me was the original goal. Or I could ignore it and go on as usual. They had already accepted that I didn't get it, and they weren't gona stop me from having fun, so why should I?
And the thing is that I had... one friend, in that whole class. One person who actually liked talking to me and hanging out with me. I was lonely. And the 'game' provided me with another social interaction, mean-spirited as it was, that I desperately needed. And it was so delightfully simple. Navigating actual friendships as a kid with autism and adhd was so fucking complicated, and I'd never know when I might break an inivisble rule. But I knew the rules to the game perfectly!
Sometimes, if I was chasing one of them, the others would trap him and hold him down so I could tap him. In those moments it actually did kind of feel like I was playing with them, rather than against them. And it didn't change much, they didnt start actually liking me. But they were willing to roll with the fact that I wasn't upset, and I took advantage of that because I needed to.
So you can look at Falin seeing the best in her parents as her being naïve, but I look at this page and I see myself, at first unable to differentiate between playing and being made fun of. And then later, when I did see the difference, deciding not to get mad about it because that'd mean losing that social interaction, and I couldn't afford to.
Like I said, Falin probably first realized this in the year she spent with her brother gone, and everyone else avoiding her like the plague. If she refused to talk to her parents, like Laios did, she'd have no one left.
I see a lot of people relating to the fight between Laios and Toshiro. that frustration when you realize someone you thougth was your friend actually hates you, and they never said anything, never gave you a chance to fix it because you had no idea that you were even doing something wrong! And I can see that, too. But sometimes, when people don't fully hate you, it feels better to go along with the pretending. Because adressing it won't fix it. Because the problem isn't a specific behaviour, it's you. And if they're willing to tolerate you, despite the fact that it's you, then you'll take it. Because other people do hate you, so this is the best you'll get.

This post inspired me to think about secret identity logistics and I think Cass being so cavalier with her secret identity would actually help. Like, it makes the rest of the family's secret identities better because Cassandra Cain is obviously Blackbat/Batgirl. By contrast they would look even more civilian and if someone is not going to realize their kid is a vigilante is Brucie Wayne.
"But wouldn't they connect the dots to the rest of the family?" Listen, If those were bats they'd simply get out of the kidnappings and hostage situations they get themselves into like Cassandra. The fact that they always need to be saved proves they're, indeed, civilians.
Also, I doubt the math would math unless you knew very specific internal things to connect each vigilante to their civilian identity. Brucie is, for starters, as civilian as can get and thanks to the Mandela effect everyone is convinced that he was caught on camera making out with Batman anyways. So that's a non-starter.
Dick Grayson is trying to be a regular person, so the public would know he exists and comes back to important things but he's mostly out of the public eye. Plus, he's a police officer, why would anyone assume he's in kahoots with his little sister that was adopted after he'd already left Gotham?? And when he came back to Gotham for a while to take care of things for his father, is not like there was a new vigilante. It was still batman and Robin (the Robin was new, but Dick Grayson is an adult so, not likely).
Then we get to the big one: Jason is legally dead. You can't assign him any vigilante because he's mmm super dead. I'm sure there's a true crime podcaster trying to argue that he was the second robin and died doing robin shit, that's why Batman and Bruce broke up. But even if it's compelling, it's also considered in really bad taste. Also, can't be tied to Cassandra because she arrived after his death.
Tim gets a similar reaction to Brucie in the sense that there's no way he is a vigilante. He's the immunocompromised Twink from Forbes "30 under 30". He's literally physically incapable of being a super hero due to both a lack of Muscles and a lack of time. That boy has to run an entire massive money making machine and, for all gothamites know, he may very well be asthmatic as well. Plus, he gets kidnapped like crazy. If he was a hero he would at least now how to avoid being put in those situations. They suspect he's covering for Cass though, since he's smart enough to realize his sister is freaking Batgirl.
This means that even if Cass is Batgirl they can't really trace Batman, Nightwing, Red Robin or Red hood back to the family (not to speak of Batwoman, Catwoman, Huntress, Batgirl a 1 and 2, Oracle or spoiler). So at this point why would you even try to connect the others? Clearly Cass is the exception, not the rule.
Like, sure, Duke did survive the Riddler ruling Gotham and if you put some effort, it wouldn't be impossible to tie him to the We Are Robin movement. But also ...is it because he's black? Is it because he's the only black person from Gotham you know of?? His sister is a vigilante, and he is black, so he must be the black vigilante of course (He would be the one making this comments in social media through his sock puppet accounts and the True Crime/conspiracy communities would be too scared to touch that one with a ten foot pole)
Damian is another one where I think Bruce would do what he can to protect him from the press (partially for his own good and partially because he's the opposite of media trained). Most of the info the tabloids would get is from people tangentially related to him. Like, sure, he does look a bit like the new robin, and his sister is Batgirl. But, unless you're one of the people claiming he's the lovechild of Bruce Wayne and Batman (test tube baby??? Batman trans???) it wouldn't make a lot of sense now, would it?
Like Cass is so fucking weird compared to the rest of her family's civilian identities it makes them look rock solid by comparison.

there is an uptick of people thinking that bruce like. emotionally manipulated peter in LoF? i should clarify that bruce did not do that??
(potential spoilers below)
he didn't know that spooking peter would be related to a trauma response, and peter ultimately wasn't mad at him for that. peter and bruce have been messing with each other since they met and peter started it (hello orphan joke that peter made the first time he spoke to batman). what he was really upset about was that bruce figured out the plan to tell his identity AND get around the spider sense. bruce was letting him know what he was walking into should he do that right then and there.
bruce was very much right that peter wouldn't go near the manor until he was comfortable with bruce, an adult he had only a few points of contact with atp. (also bruce still doesn't know that peter had stalked him and red robin in that one scene and that because of it, peter did know some things about batman and bruce.) even if he was comfortable with the rest of them, they'd have had a hard time getting him near the cave. peter is flighty and he often leaps before he looks. bruce has experience with like all 85 of his children being the same, but specifically when dick was peter's age
it wasn't emotional manipulation, he was just presenting himself in a way that made it easier for peter to feel comfortable around him and that he could trust batman. that's why they played tag of all things. peter would have been a lot more distrusting if bruce hadn't made that step. imagine the conversation about dick being peter's parent, but peter is five seconds away from trying to leave because he's in batman's house
i should also make sure everyone remembered peter's conversation with benny about why batman "doesn't allow metas":
it's a rule to protect metas from shit like this. AND it's to prevent superheroes that don't understand Gotham or how it works coming in and trying to "fix" everything only to make it worse. agree or not, i think it's pretty clear that batman doesn't actually have a problem with metas. he works with them (justice league, DUKE is on his team for crying out loud) but he's paranoid.
this isn't an angry post btw!! i'm just confused by some comments and a few asks i've gotten recently. i'm just making sure everyone here knows that bruce made a guess that peter would want to be on more equal terms with batman, and he was right. he's made a lot of mistakes in the past with not doing that (look at ALL of his robins. especially jason and steph) and he's learned from that
also. it's batman. he's gonna do that in the most dramatic way possible
#bruce wayne#batman#peter parker#spider-man#spiderman#fanfic#erinwantstowrite#ao3#ao3 fanfic#leap of faith ao3#leap of faith catch me if you can#leap of faith#clip taken from chapter 3 btw#like im wondering if i need more time with bruce as well as steph duke and cass#just so everyone is aware that peter and bruce are on good terms

Stress Relief - stepdad!Rafael Barba x reader
requested by @rafaslittleboy
summary: Rafael comes home angry and frustrated with your mom, so he decides to use you to relieve some of his stress.
warnings: father/stepchild incest, fingering, inappropriate relationship
Being Olivia Benson's kid had never been easy. Between angry criminals seeking revenge and never-ending cases that kept your mom away from you, you'd experienced more than your fair share of turmoil.
But even then, nothing compared to the night your mother and Rafael Barba came home and announced they'd gotten married down at the courthouse.
Somehow, taking care of Noah had always fallen on you. It didn't matter that you were working and going to school. Even though you were now in college and Noah was a bit older, you were still expected to be the responsible older sibling.
It had never been much of a secret that your mom and stepdad favored Noah over you. After all, they doted on him and told him how much they loved him all the time. You were practically invisible compared to him. Even though you were the one actually genetically related to one of them.
—
One night while you were doing schoolwork at the kitchen table, you were startled by the front door being flung open.
"Jeez, dad, what's wrong?" you ask, looking up at him and setting down your pencil.
"Elliot Stabler is back," Rafael grumbles, dropping his briefcase on the floor. It fell to the ground with a thud.
"I thought he was gone for good. Lizzie didn't tell me anything so she probably didn't know he was coming back, either. Poor kids," you sigh.
"Where's Noah?"
"A playdate with Amanda's girls. I'm picking him up later," you explain, looking up from your work briefly.
"Ah. Well, your mother is having a drink with Elliot. She'll be home later," Rafael spat.
"Damn. Jealous much?" you laugh, then realize it was the wrong move. You swore you saw fire rising up in Rafa's eyes as he stormed away to his and your mom's bedroom.
"Get in here, now." you hear Rafael growl from the other side of the bedroom door just a few minutes later.
A shiver runs down your spine. You were almost never allowed in your parents' bedroom. Only when you were being punished or scolded.
Even though you were in college, your parents still had absurd rules and acted like everything you did was wrong. Even though you weren't rebellious at all and spent most of your time watching your little brother.
"Dad, whatever I did, I'm sorry," you offer.
As you crack the bedroom door open, you notice your stepdad undressing himself, only his shirt, suspenders and pants remaining.
"I had a shit day and you sure aren't making it any better. Your mother and I have decided you need to learn to be more independent. I'm not even your real father, and you're not a little kid like your brother is. Grow up and stop relying on us for everything," he sighs, not even looking at you as if ashamed by your very existence.
"B-but you're the only d-dad I've ever had," you sniffle, tears welling up in your eyes.
"Stop getting emotional, don't be jealous over your brother. He didn't do anything wrong. Now get out, please. You're stressing me out," he says, rolling his eyes at you.
"What do I have to do to make you love me again? I'll do anything, please, dad."
"There's nothing you can do, I already have your mom," he states, laughing at your helpless desperation.
His words puncture your heart like a knife. He had your mom and Noah, so why were you still here? You'd always known you were useless, unloved, but now your stepdad had confirmed it.
"I can give you affection, anything you want. I-I can be better than my mom, please... please give me a chance!" you blurt, barely processing your words before you say them.
"Get out of my room. OUT!" he bellows, voice echoing through the walls. You leave, trying to preserve at least some of your dignity.
You sweep your homework off the dining table and drag it into your room. Your small, dark room. Somehow, even as the oldest, you'd gotten the worst bedroom. Of course. You flopped down on your bed and sobbed into your pillow, wishing fruitlessly for someone to make you feel wanted.
—
You couldn't remember when you had fallen asleep, but you hear a soft knock on your door some time later.
"Huh?" you rasp, eyes widening as your stepdad enters. Now clothed in a sweater and flannel pajama pants, he looks so much softer than before.
His sympathetic gaze fixes on you before saying, "c'mon, out of bed, sweetie."
Rafael leads you to the master bedroom once again, your mother still nowhere to be seen. Probably still out with Elliot Stabler.
"C'mon, sit in my lap. Don't worry, your dad's got you, okay? " you nod, so touch-starved as you climb onto the bed and into his lap.
"You were right earlier, we haven't been paying enough attention to you. Even big kids need love too. C'mon, cuddle with your dad," he says warmly, allowing you to climb under the blankets with him and snuggle up close to his warm body.
"I missed this," you hum, feeling his warm breath on your forehead as he wraps his arms around you.
You lean into his touch as his arm moves down your back, eventually stopping so his hand is resting on the small of your back.
Your breath hitches when you feel your stepdad's thick fingers reach down towards your underwear, gently teasing the waistband.
“Dad, w-what are you doing?” you hiss, writhing around gently to try and shake him off.
“Shh, just let me touch you, okay?”
You look at him with wide eyes, terrified at his uncharacteristic behavior.
Now, Rafael was sniffing your hair as he pressed a finger against the edge of your hole.
You tried to shake your head, or open your mouth, or do anything, but you were paralyzed with fear.
“Don’t tell your mom about this, alright kiddo?” your stepdad says with a breathy whisper as he plunges two fingers deep into your hole, nudging your pleasurable spot.
You try to muffle a shriek as your stepdad clutches your body close to his so you can’t get away. He was older and bigger than you and doesn't hesitate to exert his power over you.
The change was like night and day. You'd always considered Mr. Barba to be your own father, as he was the closest thing you had to a dad.
"Da-ad— please, please stop!" you hiss, feeling his thick fingers plunge in and out of you, working to pleasure you like he knew you deserved.
"Nuh, uh, baby. I want to apologize for neglecting you. And all this time, I've had a cute little stepchild right under my nose just waiting to be used. I'm sorry it took me so long," he says with a chuckle, like this is all some sick joke.
"I-I think I'm g-gonna—" your breath hitches and Rafael immediately knows, can feel your orgasm about to hit you.
"Mhm, just focus on my fingers, mi amor. Daddy's gonna make you feel really, really good," he coos.
You gasp and suddenly you can feel your little hole throb, trying hard to push your stepdad's fingers out. You clutch him even closer and he pulls you tight into his chest. His scent filling your nose just as his fingers were filling you.
Everything feels muddy, slow, dark. Your dad slipping his fingers out, throwing the sheets over and licking your cum out of your hole. His gentle touches, little kisses, reassuring you of his love.
He is just dressing himself in his pajamas as your mom opens the front door. You can hear your mom talking to your little brother in a babyish voice.
"Remember, not a word to your mother. It's not like she'd believe you anyways," your stepdad laughs, pushing your face away before going into the living room, acting as if he hadn't just fingered his kid to orgasm.
"They're not feeling great, I let them sleep in our bed. Thought some pampering was in order for such a good kid," Rafael says, kissing Olivia on the cheek. It's the last thing you see before you pull the covers over your head and welcome the darkness.

For the cat who takes out Juniperclaw, maybe if any of Leafstar's kits are still alive besides Harrybrook (or just him idk how you characterize any of the three), perhaps one of them would go with it? Leafstar might not have liked "an eye for an eye" and she'd probably teach them it's wrong to seek revenge, but I do think one of them can be talked into it, in the name of SkyClan and Leafstar. Make it more personal when Juniperclaw is told who they are in relation to the cat he killed, making it click in his head what is about to happen.
Oooo, great idea, I GOTTA do that... hmmm. Much as I wish I could cash in another chip for Firefern, since I adore her name, it's gotta be Harrybrook.
In-canon, his character is consistently harsh and distrusting and he's got it even worse in BB. It could be like his mother is the only thing actually holding him back. If anyone is going to end up being Waspstar's "Cleaner," it absolutely has to be him.
Harrybrook: We had a good thing, you stupid son of a foxheart! We had Leafstar, we had a camp, we had everything we needed and it all ran like woodwork! You could have shut your mouth, hunted, and caught as much prey as you ever needed. It was perfect! But no! You just had to blow it up! You, and your pride and your ego! You just had to be the man! If you’d known your place, we’d all be fine right now!
A little recap of BB!Harrybrook, since it's been a while since I've mentioned him or any of his fragments;
Harrybrook is the son of Leafstar, Echosong, and Billystorm.
SkyClan does not have the Cleric's Vow.
This is because SkyClan was exiled at the beginning of the Ripple Era; before Larkstripe's Strike which resulted in the unofficial vow being codified.
it is actually a positive in their culture if their Cleric previously raised kittens. Echosong probably did have other litters in her long life.
Echosong is also alive to the current arc; Frecklewing joined with The Kin. Fidgetflake is still around, but he's probably still the "junior" Cleric of sorts.
Important point being that Harrybrook has personal stake in SkyClan's unique customs. His only surviving parent is a Cleric.
I wouldn't be surprised if this is what makes him such an effective killer. He has a knowledge of poisons and anatomy.
All cats know where the carotid artery is, they find it all the time when they put the killing bite in the wrong spot. Habr knows where else a single blow can bleed you out.
As a little kitten, he was named after Harry, who helped to save his mother.
What no one knew at the time was that Harry was being courted by an ancient monster. Sol, the God of Autumn, Change, and Tricks, wanted to play a game.
The rules were simple; Sacrifice three kits.
Sol wanted to see how far Harry, once baring the name Cinders, would go in pursuit of the power it could offer him. Sol HATES a boring vessel.
Harry JUMPED at the chance, offering two of his own kits as the last one got away. He just needed one more.
SkyClan almost tempted him into tucking his ambition away. Here, he was safe and accepted for the first time... but his desire for power won out in the end.
Sol offers immortality, the ability to mould reality like clay, the whole world could be Harry's toy.
(WIP SECTION)
In some way, Sol was able to manipulate Billystorm. I'm still working out how severe this manipulation was.
He likely got to Leafstar too. Possibly intentionally driving a wedge between them-- convincing Billystorm that SkyClan was unsafe and he'd raised the kits more than either his mate or his mate's girlfriend. He had a right to keep them safe, even if that meant taking them from everything they'd ever known.
And to Leafstar, he told her Billystorm was plotting against her. That she needed to be as firm with him as she is with the cantankerous Sharpclaw. If she's not, he might take those kittens back to his humans, and who knows what they'd do?
In any case, a fight between them causes Billystorm to leave. I'm not sure if I'm keeping Leafstar exiling him.
(Note: I don't really like how either character acts in the canon story. Or the framing. Or... anything about it really. It's bad Todd.)
In the past, I'd made it so Billy ended up trying to take the kids to his human, and then the human was the one who decided to get rid of the kits. INSTEAD it works a LOT better if Billystorm went back to his humans, and Harry then used this as a lure to get the kittens out of camp.
"Let's go visit your Ba, kittens. I know where he is. Just follow me."
While living in the town, Billystorm meets up with the child of Harry who got away, and learns that they've all been set up.
Billystorm deserves to go run save his kids and punch a God in the face I think.
DAYLIGHT WARRIOR MORE LIKE LIGHTS OUT WARRIOR! KAPOW!!
(Much as I will miss the gutpunch brutality of Billystorm realizing that his human can't be trusted. I'll just use the idea someplace else.)
(WIP SECTION END)
Stormkit was unable to be saved. There was only Firefern and Harrybrook.
Harry has been terrified of water since then. It represents everything awful that's ever happened to him.
He doesn't even like when it rains. Storms always seem to bring terrible things.
Firefern ended up dying on the journey to the Lake. I'm leaning towards changing it to infection, during the time that Echosong is missing (taking Frecklewing's arc).
Her other mother wasn't there to help her, and she died of something preventable. Something Harry knows she could have healed.
Harrybrook hates his name. I think he was too quiet about it, though, to the point where his family wasn't aware of it.
They probably figured it was overwriting Harry's memory. It's Harrybrook's name now, instead. Harry just feels like it's a reminder of being tricked.
I think at one point he should get an honor title, but I'm still working it out. He might just be keeping Harrybrook as a grim reminder.
If it's him who kills Juniperclaw, I know for a fact he'd take Waspstar's orders very seriously; "Please be discreet and professional." It's only mostly personal, you see. More importantly, this is for SkyClan.
Leafstar wouldn't have approved. But she's not here now.
He'd quietly intercept Juniperclaw as he approaches the camp, standing in his way, looking him up and down without a twinge of emotion on his face. Juniperclaw's hackles are raised immediately. He lived with SkyClan before Heartstar reformed ShadowClan-- everyone knows who Harveybrook is.
"I've- I've come to pay my respects," He says proudly, standing tall and noble. Even after that he did, he has the boldness to hold himself as a brave warrior. What he knows he did, and to who he's talking to. Harrybrook shouldn't fault him for not knowing how arrogant he comes across-- but does anyway.
"Yes, we've been expecting you," He flicks his tail and dips his head respectfully, "Right this way."
The trail doesn't lead to camp.
When Juniperclaw begins to realize that they're taking a strange path, he just waves it away as an odd feeling. It's been a while since he's been here, after all. But the tickle doesn't go away. It gets stronger and stronger, until he recognizes the northern border of what used to be ShadowClan's full range.
And that's when he halts, "Where exactly are you taking me?"
"Not any further if you don't want to," Though Harrybrook's eyes are wide like he's about to pounce on prey and his massive body is buckled low, prowling, sizing up the distance between them, his tone is soft. Like he's gently explaining something to a fellow warrior. "This would be far enough."
The ex-deputy swallows on a dry throat, frozen in place. Harrybrook relaxes his stance. Juniperclaw seems to be very good at taking orders, just like he is. He knows exactly what to do to keep this discreet and professional.
"If you'd like, we can finish the long walk. It's a place my mother used to like. It has flowers, butterflies, it's a lovely haven," He relaxes his stance, meeting Juniperclaw's terrified eyes with a calm, dutiful look.
The panic distills into a resolve. Like something clicked in his mind, and he was coming to one of those unspoken conclusions that these Forest Four cats all seem to have figured out between them. "All right. I... I think I know the haven you're talking about. We can have our fight there. There's no need to make a scene."
Harrybrook's ear flicks, but Juniperclaw doesn't see it as he brushes past him. It seems he misunderstood what this is. He thinks this is an invocation of the Right to Challenge. That this is going to be a fair fight between warriors.
It's the last mistake he ever made. But he doesn't feel a thing. Back turned to his killer, he hears the snap before he learns in StarClan that it was the sound of his own neck.
#better bones au#BB!Juniperclaw#BB!Harrybrook#Sol's Game#Squirrelflight's Horror#This is the kind of standalone scene I'd have some problems with placing in one of my reworked books#SO I'll have to think of where it goes#Honestly I'm grateful for the SkyClan stuff that seems to be coming out lately#It'll make it easier to show off all the big changes I made in BB!SkyClan

The Vanishing of BLANK Wheeler
I wanted to make a list, from least likely to most likely, for which Wheeler I think is going to go missing.
But I also wanted to give a little disclaimer first, that even if these titles are real, they could still be fake, or could even possibly change given how much time we still have until s5 actually premieres.
For s2-3, the Duffers literally released official promo videos announcing episode titles for their upcoming season, with some of them changing when the season finally premiered.
Like in the case of s3 for example, they dropped a s3 episode promo video only a day after they completed filming. Meaning them titling 3x06 The Birthday, made absolutely no sense. They knew they didn't film anything birthday related for that episode. So they intentionally gave that one a fake name.
In the case of s4, that was the first time they promoted an upcoming season without giving fake titles, with the s4 promo announcing them following through with what we ended up with when s4 finally dropped.
I guess I sort of assumed s5 would follow in s4's footsteps, but from a leak standpoint, it might be smart to remember that fake titles are still a possiblity regardless. Especially in this case, where it's getting to the point in production where leaks are unavoidable. And so that might even explain why they play with this idea of fake episodes, which is because they can rest easy knowing leaks will mostly consist of half fake titles they planted there.
But for the sake of this post, lets humor the title for episode 2.
For starters, it's worth noting that the person who shared this leak originally said 'BLANK wheeler'. So as far as I know, they did not give any number of letters via underscores (_) to hint at who this Wheeler could possibly be. It's when ST news accounts caught wind of the leak and started rolling out posts, replacing BLANK with 5 underscores, that led a lot of fans to assume that the Wheeler had to have 5 letters in their name, which would have obviously ruled out Ted and Mike. But since all the Wheeler's are still on the table based on the original leak, they will all be included in this list.
5. Ted Wheeler
Believe it or not, there is something that I think actually warrants considering Ted as a possiblity.
There were some posts @stranger-chichka made a while back, comparing visual parallels between Stranger Things and Chernobyl, which could be hinting at this concept of Ted being in danger.
TBH though I think Ted being in danger or ending up dead is a possiblity regardless of him actually being the missing Wheeler.
Technically speaking, quite literally no one on the show is ruled out from being in danger at this point, so that's not saying much.
And considering the show is going to need to kill off some people next season and they are insistent on not killing any of their leads, supporting characters amongst the ranks have a high risk at being taken out. The emotional connection for Ted from the audience isn't as strong as other characters, but at least him being in close relation to a few main characters is something? I mean, he's funny I guess?
Quite frankly I don't think it's likely nor do I think it would actually make sense narratively for Ted to be the one to go missing out of all of them. I think it's a lot more likely they'd just kill him off, hence the Chernobyl parallels which imply he's gonna die. And so wasting time by having him go missing, only to kill him, just doesn't track. I think they'd just get that over with without dragging it out for very long, if anything.
Can you just imagine someone on the show shouting emotionally, It's Dad (Ted). He's gone.' Like, okay... And? I have a hard time imagining the characters being in serious turmoil over this, at least not enough for it to warrant like final season stakes amongst a bunch of other crazy shit happening. At best, the characters would be indifferently guilty for getting him roped into all this.
So yeah, I really don't see it happening.
4. Nancy Wheeler
I honestly feel like Nancy is even less likely to go missing than Ted, but the un-seriousness of an episode titled The Vanishing of Ted Wheeler is so astronomical, that I really had no choice but to put him last.
The reason I think Nancy is just very unlikely to go missing is because they technically already had her go missing as a cliffhanger between Vol 1 and 2 last season. It would just fall flat if they repeated something along those lines, with that same character, 3 episodes later. Vecna could have killed her and yet he didn't. His point was to send her a message, which was why he did what he did and then released her. The choice to target Nancy and taunt her about her family's safety in the first place, felt like their attempt at foreshadowing the danger that is to come for all of them, but one specifically. One of them that is not her. Which will make this moment back in s4 feel a lot more impactful upon rewatches.
So yeah, not feeling like Nancy is very likely.
3. Karen Wheeler
Karen is sort of a hard nut to crack all around. In the case that she is somehow connected to the Creels (Alice), anything is possible in terms of not only her being targeted, but again the entire family being at risk in some capacity. Without much to go off of outside of the obvious very haphazard timeline confusion, I feel like putting her somewhere in the middle. She was given a poster for s4. If she is Alice, then yeah it would make sense to target her. The stakes are also a lot stronger in comparison to Ted, because she was the parent in the family that actually came to Mike or Nancy and told them verbally that she wanted them to open up to her and is actually shown trying on several occasions. Whereas Ted is sort of just there when he's on screen. So the characters' distress would be a lot more dire and interesting to see unfold amongst everyone.
I also remember there being a leak in relation to Karen, Holly, Mike and Nancy all being at the hospital filming. And this was also like a day or so after ST dropped a video of Cara saying she was filming that day to hype up fans. So that leak did check out on the Karen front at least. Which puts her at the hospital at some point, potentially along with the rest of the Wheelers. Now that I'm thinking about it though, this could all fit with a Ted Wheeler death...
At this point, I'm sort of like indifferent to the possiblity, but it's still more likely than Ted and Nancy to me.
2. Holly Wheeler
It all goes back to s1, when Karen was visiting the Byers to console Joyce after Will went missing, when Holly sort of ventures off to Will's room, being guided by the lights, and sees the demogorgan in the wall.
I feel like people overlook this moment too, because it's kind of crazy that Holly has seen UD shit for herself. She was young enough that she could rule it out as just imagining things. And that could be partly the case even if she is skeptical.
There is something about Holly that makes her curious and sort of open to this world that most around her have no idea exists. And yet simultaneously some of the people closest to her do know about it and could easily clue her in when the time comes to do so, and because of that, I think she would probably be able to believe it all a lot faster than others.
Maybe this is a story where things need to happen and it just always ends up this way, but she has this tendency to be included in things that feel very important. Like in s4 with her playing with the lite-brite, and how that ended up being used to communicate with the others in the UD. There's this almost clairvoyance vibe about her. Her feeling the need to follow the Christmas lights to Will's room and her noticing and then fixating on the trees in s3.
Like I said, I don't know if it's something deeper, but it very well could be in the case she is connected to the Creels.
And while that is all somewhat compelling, at the same time it also feels very convoluted. Even if the Wheelers are Creels, I don't think that means the Wheelers would have powers, given that Henry got them when he was a child, meaning none of his family could have gotten them unless they too were taken in by the lab at some point, or were born with it.
Though I'm being full serious when I say the theories about Mike having time powers or maybe just manifestations from his emotions connected to the powers of others around him is one of my favorite theories of all time. I want it to happen. It would be cool. But that just opens the door to all of the Wheelers in my opinion, assuming his time powers came from being related to Henry. And if it was done that way, I feel like it would add way too much confusion to the story, where now all the Wheelers are gonna need to have powers, and then as a result would just takes away from the uniqueness that is already associated with Henry, El and potentially Will. One person potentially having powers without us knowing until the end aka Will, is enough honestly. Adding the Wheelers to the mix might be a bit much.
I'm also not totally convinced of the Wheeler's being Creels, and yet I also can't seem to want to rule it out entirely. But the prospects of Holly having powers or some sort of ability and just going through the same thing as Will when he was young and unaware of his powers, who is just now finding out the truth about his experiences... It just feels like serious whiplash honestly, when they haven't spent much of any time on Holly up to this point.
Like what are the stakes here exactly? What makes her disappearance and what that would look like compelling, on her front specifically? Because sure, I can see it being compelling watching the perspective of those around her reacting to this, what they would do to try to save her and all that, but what does that mean for her exactly? Are we going to see what she's doing? Are they going to hide it from us like they did with Will and then have to spend even more time uncovering it later on. And what does she even gain from being alone and taunted by Vecna presumably? What does the audience gain from witnessing that sort of event? There isn't a lot of story to explore there, outside of maybe making direct parallels to Will in s1? And then wouldn't that sort of take away from the importance of Will's role in it all just now being uncovered, if it all just repeats for Holly?
Which brings me to something that I see a lot of people using as strong evidence for why it has to be Holly, which is the fact that they recast her character.
What I think people are failing to consider is the fact that the twins who were cast to play Holly originally, were like 3-4 years old while filming s1. They weren't just kid actors, they were damn near baby actors. And while I know a big part of the reason why they gave Holly such few lines over the years was because the actors were aging way faster than the character they played, I think another factor could have been the fact that their acting experience is near nothing outside of Stranger Things, which is also pretty little on its own as well given that they have very few lines on the show.
It's not at all uncommon for child actors, let alone toddler actors to leave the industry once they start getting older. It could be for personal reasons, like wanting to explore other ventures, or it could be that they just don't perform as well with all the added expectations that come with acting as a character who is a kid with a lot of lines vs. a baby with 2 lines.
The girls got cast because at the time, they were able to perform as well as a 3 year old possibly could and would be expected to be in that role. But does that skill carry forth as they grew older? When now they have to deliver full sentences and carry conversations for scenes that are longer than 5 minutes? They've never really had to do that up to this point. Is it something that they feel comfortable with doing? Is their performance believable and is it something the writers feel confident about?
Honestly, I think they might have recast Holly, not because I think she is going to be targeted and focused on as this missing person they have to find, going through a near identical situation to 11 year old Will, but because they simply want her to be more apart of the story in general. And maybe because either the twins and/or the production didn't feel that they would be able to perform it in the way that they wanted it to be done.
And I mean, even if Holly isn't the one to go missing, one of the Wheelers is going to go missing based on this leak. If it was one of her parents, she would get a lot more scenes than she has in the past. If it was one of her siblings, again it would make sense for her to be more involved with the story. No matter what she is going to have a bigger role.
So no I don't think her being recast is as strong enough of proof as some might believe. If anything I think there is much stronger evidence that, like Karen, if they are related to the Creels, Holly is as fair game as any of them. The stakes could be high because she i such s a child. And her parents and Nancy and Mike worrying about her seems like something they would obviously do because she is so innocent and completely ill-equipped to endure something like that. But like I said, I just can't picture an focus like that on her, for her character, being very compelling given that Holly isn't really someone that needs like alone time with us witnessing it...
But there is one Wheeler left, and boy oh boy would he benefit from being alone.
1. Mike Wheeler
The most simple explanation for why it makes sense for it to be Mike, is that he genuinely benefits more than anyone when it comes to being alone with his thoughts, and with the audience watching. There's a lot of stuff dude has to work through in his own head, and since they haven't really let us have a moment alone with him that isn't under ten seconds since s3, an episode or two dedicated to making that a priority would make him coming back and things building up to the end, feel a lot more earned.
The audience needs to feel confident about how Mike feels about things. It can't be a guessing game for much longer when so many different factors are involved.
And while I think Mike may be the strongest possiblity in terms of the value it would add to the overall story is compelling enough to put him at number 1, the evidence supporting it happening is even stronger.
If we want to be crazy we can go back to the beginning. Plenty of fans have already speculated about how Mike is always late at the start of every season and how that might play into the beginning of season 5 again. I made a post about this recently and speculated it would happen one last time around the 15 minute mark. And maybe I was wrong... but maybe I was also right? Because if the second episode is called The Vanishing of Mike Wheeler, it's likely Mike's fate wouldn't be confirmed by the opening of 5x01, but in fact the closing scene of 5x01.
Throughout the show Mike plays a key role in leading the others, he's even referred to as 'the key' in s3 by Hopper. You know this show and their keys, they don't joke about that sort of thing. It's likely that Mike's story and what it is leading to is going to be central to how all of this ends.
Also in s3, there is one scene in particular that I think could be hinting at Mike being targeted, along with the s4 main poster with all of the characters. In the poster, we see El at the top, with Max and Mike as near equals on each side of her. Of course their roles are central and that's a fair layout on it's own arguably, but the equal-ness provided to Mike and Max feels very intentional. While she is slightly bigger than Mike in the frame, that could be a hint in regards to her being central now in s4, with Mike joining the mix alongside her in s5. Honestly, they could have made it so these two were beside other characters that also played a huge role in s4, and yet they chose those two to give a specific focus to. I think that is interesting (and probably intentional).
But if I'm being honest, there are so many moments in s4 specifically that hint at Mike being in danger, that I will not be able to include it all in detail in this post. So I'm going to link those below and then build off of some of it with some new details I've recovered that are worth re-contextualizing again with all of this in mind.
Hints regarding Mike and Will being targets of the town, but Mike specifically being focused on after the word 'missing' is said...
I'm gonna expand on this one because I think it's important to recognize the massive curtain in the background as this is all happening. And I vaguely reference this concept here as well which is worth checking out. But not is this whole concept of the curtain pretty blatant in this episode, this scene of the town all fleeing to hunt down hellfire club, is followed directly after, by this:
Notice how Mike is nearly always central in these moments? And how what follows feels eerily similar to what is about to go down at the end of s4 aka Suzie = Mike.
Now, this has already been talked about plenty so I won't go into detail, but... based on everything else happening surrounding this, this would apply to Mike in the sense that not only is he not in love with El, he's gay and in love with Will aka a boy. A BOY!
And then this mention of 'the terrible truth'. This word has been used like 3 times in the last few minutes. First intensely during Jason's speech about a terrible truth, with Ted and Karen being focused on with the Mike and Will extra in the background.
But what is even more crazy is that what follows sort of seals the deal for me that, this IS about Mike and it's foreshadowing what is about to come in s5.
5:02... 5x02!!!!
Also peep the watch and the letter from Dustin under it... I don't want to speculate but lettergate is looking extra relevant within all of this as well...
And to close off this point, lets show the shot that follows directly after this one.
Then later in the season, after Nancy is back from being taken by Vecna, here we have this long and emotional pause before she says Mike's name, last after her mom and Holly.
If they wrote and filmed this scene, knowing Mike would be the Wheeler missing early s5, it would make sense for them to list off the characters like this.
Mike peeking in the frame at this moment is not suspicious at all...
If it wasn't enough that Jason hyped up the whole town to see the Hellfire club as their enemy responsible for all of this, here we have a focus on Mike specifically being targeted by Jason.
The Duffer's statement about the show overall in the Piggyback script, and I gotta say it fits Mike a lot more than any of the other Wheelers.
Mike is a Paladin. And when they break an oath, they might spend an all-night vigil as a sign of penitence... aka everything is going to come to a head and Mike is going to be alone dealing with this shit for a bit, until he can come back ready to face it.
And I know it's controversial, but this post explains perfectly why Mike being central to this would make the show go full circle in a really compelling way.
Mike hasn't really unpacked...
Karen lookalike standing in front of the missing persons board. Could be any one of them but still, considering the costume of this extra looks closer to what Karen was wearing when she reunited and hugged Mike... I'm gonna put it more so with him.
Mike's guilt and shame regarding the past and what it has led them to could also play a big role and why him going missing would be worthwhile to explore. Part 1 / Part 2
Mike paralleling Yuri, who eventually reveals the truth (in his pocket) after stalling. If Mike parallels him all throughout the start of that moment, what does that mean for how it ends for Mike?
An antique funeral home fan behind Mike in the s4 character promo photos in the Creel attic, how Mike is seen sitting before Will sits beside him shortly after and it involving upside down imagery, Mike's first line in the show being used to later foreshadow his fate in early s5, and also bringing it back to Suzie's house which I already went into but it might be helpful to look at it again from this lens.
The Duffers would not pass up on the opportunity to parallel Mike with Finn's other character Richie in IT, which is literally based on a book that heavily inspired ST in the first place. And how all of that plays into the queer-coding for Mike going all the way back to s1.
The Duffers revealed after posting the funko-pop shotplanning pictures (2) that they were finished with planning for 5x01-5x02.... meaning this shot of Mike all by himself, is going to occur in one of those episodes...
We could still hypothesize Holly is the one to be taken, given that she doesn't have a funko and so they couldn't include her here regardless. But the fact that Nancy is with the other seems to imply to me that they are all likely working together to get Mike back, who is alone.
This one is a little more hard to pinpoint for sure, but it comes from a BTS Ross posted recently.
We are clearly in the Wheeler's house here. And if you zoom in, it looks like someone is standing (hiding?) behind a doorway/curtain. And the only person that seems to fit it imo is Mike... But why would he be hiding in his own house...?
It just makes me think about what is going on with Mike in early s5. What would be occurring that has him in this sort of situation? And it makes me wonder if him going missing has solely to do with him being taken and gone in one single moment, or if it could involve him avoiding his family and others potentially, with him being taken after that.
Lastly, I'm going to go into more choppy territory, stuff I know only a couple of people will actually consider. But it is pretty fucking fitting of what is about to go down so I can't not mention it.
In the Puzzle Tales' most recent Hellfire Campaign, this is the title...
Like the whole chapter is just a big joke on Mike about him being scared to be alone, which is painfully ironic if this is the direction the show is about to go for the next 2 upcoming episodes.
And then we have a song WSQK posted on Twitter back in January. I know people don't believe that this account is connected with anyone in the production, which is fair because I myself rarely believe leaks from anonymous accounts as it is. But I've been keeping up with it and it genuinely doesn't seem like a fan could come up with these songs.
The song I'm about to mention is the 7th song they posted, called Army Dreamers by Kate Bush. And you might fight it sounds a lot like the situation Mike might find himself in in early s5.
And though I'm sure I didn't cover everything, I feel like all the things I've mentioned and referenced from other posts are plenty to at least consider this as opposed to rejecting it all together.
At the end of the day I think there are some valid arguments for all of them to some extent. And quite frankly all of the Wheelers and most of the characters in the show will find themselves in danger in a way that is going to probably last longer than just one single moment the entire season. So even if it's just one of them, I don't think that rules out the others playing a bigger role in what is going down.
I just think narratively, there is one person that benefits from being on-screen and alone with their thoughts. And the other 4 being confronted with what that person discovers eventually will also make all of this a lot more worthwhile than any of the other options in my opinion.
#byler#stranger things#st5 theory#st5 speculation#mike wheeler#mike wheeler run#I think i'm going to just not tag a bunch like i usually do because jesus this was long and I think I got my point across#if you're still not convinced and think it's more likely to be one of the other wheelers that's fine#as long as it's not ted bc i can't take that episode title seriously i just can't#also if there are errors it’s bc I only edited this 50x instead of 100x like I usually do#I’ll come back later to check so sorry for what I imagine is a bunch of confusing parts 😭

I wanted to ask your thoughts about a topic that I think might resonate with you since a lot of your writing surrounds it and since you talked about it the other I thought it'd be nice to hear what you have to say.
I grew up feeling very ashamed of having sexual feelings, and other things taken in account made me really repressed. For a very long time I didn't even admitted to myself I was queer until I was actively in a fandom with queer people.
But sex in general was always taboo regardless of gender but for some reason young royals has destroyed a bit of the misconception I had around it. The show in itself depicts a beautiful and safe environment for queer sex which I'll always be so grateful for.
And then fanfic came along and that was another block taken down because fanfic allows us to be even more free in our writing etc but sometimes I feel conflicted about how it can feel good to feel this free reading about these characters but irl still have this block.
Your writing is so amazing in that regards because your character are exploring it all and I don't know how it would be if writers would stop themselves from writing what they'd want to bc they're afraid of what others might think... I wouldn't have read all these stories and felt myself freed from societal rules of what's okay and isn't.
But sex is also drench in shame regardless bc if you like kinky stuff your weird, if you like too much sex then it becomes dangerous. But writing about those very things feels like a rebellious acts, do you agree? It's like art can do so much and sex in that regard is something we have to push through as well in order to make our point across like there's nothing wrong with it but why do we hold on to the shame more ? Of course we can keep it strick to fanfic I don't expect you to reveal yourself etc I was just thinking about the way yr is different in that concept because it challenges us to see sex differently because Wille and Simon see it differently, does that make sense ?
Hi, dear anon! Thank you so much for sending this in and for trusting me with it 🫂💜 I definitely have loooots of thoughts on this, and I hope that I can express them coherently. Sorry if this gets rambly!
First of all: I'm very, very sorry that you grew up with all that shame around sex and sexuality around you. I'm really happy to hear that things are better now (at least the part about admitting to yourself that you're queer 💜) You deserved better, everybody deserves better. But I relate to that a lot. I grew up in a politically and religiously conservative environment, so of course sex was something people got shamed for and homophobia and queerphobia was rampant.
Interestingly enough (or maybe it's not that interesting at all, who knows) being in a fandom did the same thing for me, except I got lucky because I was able to find a place in a fandom and with fellow queer people at a pretty young age. I think without that, I would've had a way harder time coming to terms with my queerness, even though I remember already thinking about it when I was like eight or something. It's absolutely invaluable to be able to get a sense of community like that and to know that there's more out there in the world, be if for you and your own identity or just what's possible for humans in general. I'm endlessly grateful for fandom and especially for fanfic for being able to provide that!!!!
And the funny thing is, even though this is far from my first fandom and far from my first time engaging with queer content there was still something incredibly special about Young Royals and the way (queer) sex is treated on the show (and I know it's not just queer sex, but that's kind of the lense I use to look at it, so I'm going to be focusing on that). Like... even though, technically, I had it all more of less figured out already, the show did change something for me, and even 1,5 years later I'm still struggling to put it into words. But there's something about the way the sex is depicted that makes it so... uncomplicated? Like, even though the sex is very central to the story, to the way Wilmon connect, and to one of the main conflicts (with the video tape), it's never an issue in itself. They're both so quick to admit it, they did nothing wrong (maybe... maybe the most important line of the whole show to me tbh). And even though shit hits the fan because of the video and they both go through hell and back in all kinds of ways because of it, there's never any inherent shame around it. It's so different and refreshing in that sense - these two guys like each other, so they do what feels right for them, and there's no issue with that. It's almost... celebrated? Is that the right word? throughout the show, it's what they do for comfort and connection and to feel closer to each other. I don't watch nearly enough tv or movies to really know if that is overall as revolutionary as it felt to me in particular, but... yeah. For me, personally, that was one of the first times queer sex on screen looked like that. It really is exactly how you call it, beautiful and safe!
As for the freedom that come from reading fic: yep. hell yes. That is definitely a big part of why I love writing and reading fanfic. It's freeing, in so many ways. Of course that's not something that's exclusively limited to fanfic, and you will always find me talking about the inherent emancipatory potential of art of all kinds, but I do think that, especially compared to what you'd call traditionally published (romance) books, fanfic has a lot more freedoms. Fanfic writers have the possibility to publish the most self-indulgent stories ever, we don't have to tie everything into a neat bigger plot, we don't (unless we struggle with perfectionism, but... you know) have to try to make the story perfect or fit into any of the molds traditional publishing or literary history provides for us. We can create straight from the heart, on a whim, to work through shit or to ask questions or just because we thought of something interesting and couldn't let it go. And, when it comes to smut, we can just (again, theoretically, I won't pretend there aren't always all kinds of pressures that do influence what people feel comfortable writing and publishing)... write whatever.
It makes it easier to explore things that other types of media don't always give people the space to explore, like smut, kink, queerness, all sorts of different forms of relationships. And I think it gives a lot of writers the time and space to just explore. And I think that's something more people should be allowed to, both in fiction, but also just in their minds or even in life, explore. This can mean all sorts of things, but I also very much mean those things, sex, kink, queerness, relationships, etc. But especially for people who don't have the means to get into these things themselves, for all kinds of reasons, but also for people who don't really want to explore things as themselves fic can provide a safe space. Because you do get a close insight into things you've maybe never seen before or even thought about before, you get to experience them alongside the characters, and it can go all sorts of ways. It's safe, because you're not putting yourself on the line, but you're also right there, emotionally.
And that is not to say that reading smut is something that has to do with personal sexuality for people (although I think it absolutely can), but it's like a playground to just. Exist in. See what happens. Enjoy the variety of ways human beings can express their feelings for each other, enjoy the variety of ways human being can experience joy and connection and pleasure, or even the more difficult emotions. It's cathartic to be able to see all that.
I think that is also where the difference between reading about characters experiencing these things vs trying to face them in real life comes in, because fic is such a safe means of engaging with (sexual) things. It makes sense that it's easier to enjoy these things theoretically. Because even after we go through all these efforts of trying ourselves out and deconstructing the harmful notions and the internalized shame and then things society or our parents of whoever got into our heads instilled in us, they're so difficult to fully get rid off, and there's always more puritanism of all flavors coming our way. Don't beat yourself up about not being at a level of comfort that you want to be at (yet), but I hope as time goes on this will get easier for you 💜 I know thus far this has been a very allo kind of conversation, but you know, even if sex isn't something you're interested in for yourself at all, there's still a lot to be taken from engaging with it through fiction I think. That's also part of the beauty, even if there's something you could never envision for yourself - you can experience if through art!
I'm so incredibly happy that my writing could contribute to you feeling freer yourself, that is an incredible compliment and I appreciate you so much for saying it 💜 I really feel the same way about all the fic I've gotten to read, honestly. And I do love that we have fandom spaces to, for the most part, be able to read and write freely. I do think that's an act of rebellion in itself! Creating art is always rebellious in some ways, and art that you will not get paid for and thus don't have any restrictions on even more so (again, nuance, out there in real life art should get funding, but it should still always be able to exist independently of market pressures). I think especially in a society that's still so horribly sex-negative (because even though sex is omnipresent in a lot of ways there are so so soooo many restricting ideas tied to it, like for whom is it okay to have sex, how much sex, what kinds of sex etc) and queerphobic it's absolutely an act of rebellion to lean into these things and depict them as the beautiful and messy and amazing and complicated parts of human existence they are for many people.
And this is where I tie it back to Young Royals specifically: Again, not an expert on all things media depiction of queer sex, but to me personally, YR and Wilmon are revolutionary, just for the fact that their sex is so normal. Not in a normative sense (because, fuck that. there's no normatively normal way of having sex, it's all beautifully weird), but in the sense that it's just what they do. Because they want to, because it feels good, because they want to try things out, because it brings them comfort, all kinds of reasons! And it's never something they think they shouldn't be doing, it's never something they are made to regret. It's the people out there who try to shame them that are the problem, never these two queer guys having sex. That's fucking beautiful and comforting and will forever be one of my favorite aspects of the show.
#anon#answered#wilmon#young royals#fanfic#this got horribly long and I'm so sorry#yr#i clearly have lots of opinions on this whoops. I hope none of the nuance got lost in my ramblings. again. a very allo view on sex and smut#but that's just my personal lense#thank you for coming to me with this dear anon. I loved reading your thoughts and thinking about this!!! 💜💜💜

I think it's time we talked about the doctor's "do you think I care for you so little that betraying me would make a difference?" in relation to the master.
Bc throughout their lives, everytime the master did something bad, when he’d cone back they'd still have a sort of teasing relationship. Like they both knew it was a game. They both knew their limits and the true extent of their games. So there wasn't really place for betrayal in the game bc they both knew betrayal (on the master's side) WAS involved in it.
Then comes the time war and the doctor thinks he did the unforgivable and committed genocide on his own planet. And then the master shows up, arguably his most important friend, the only one who truly understands him - and then the master does something that's pretty unforgivable by enslaving the human race and turning the people at the end of the universe in killing machines. And yet the doctor, in a very important scene, forgives him like it's the easiest thing. Because they're still the same, the game hasn't changed, they're still on tjr same page, still doing the same things to each other.
And 12 was careful and a bit wary but he wholeheartedly wanted to help missy change - he saved her life in the process too. And I think he was happy at the prospect of missy becoming good bc that meant that the person he felt closest too, who was fundamentally different from him before (and it was okay bc it was in the rules of the game), was ready to be even more like him. Soulmatism x1000.
He thought missy wanted to change the rules of the game and that meant betrayal would no longer be part of it. He wouldn't run and she wouldn't stab him in the back for it.
Thing is - he thinks missy betrayed him. And he STAYED. He asked her to stay too, which is different from what he used to do to her - abandon her, run from her etc. And he thought that he was changing the rules of the game too. But missy betrayed him (in his eyes, he doesn’t know she wanted to come back) and he felt like they no longer even had the game.
The thing with 13 and the master is that the whole "do you think I care for you so little thag betraying me would make a difference?" doesn't seem applicable anymore and you wonder why. Bc it's not like they don't CARE about each other, in a twisted way. It's that the master still wants to play the game, although with significantly more violence because he's significantly hurting more than ever before, and the doctor doesn't want to play the game anymore at all.
#i could talk about this all day#but this is the gist of it#they make me ill#ALSO - if they had 10 interact with dhawan master he would have had homeboi wrapped in a warm hug in 0.5 seconds#13 was BRUTAL#you go girl tho#any other doctor would have gone#i can fix him#she threw the crowbar at his hand and said fix urself bitch then come talk to me#iconic#doctor who#thoschei#tensimm#twelvemissy#spydoc#twissy#the master#the doctor#tenth doctor#simm master#missy#twelfth doctor#dhawan master#thirteenth doctor#the timeless child

Someone asked for it and I shall deliver
@oopdatsme4now here you go
"Almond mom" Sparrow ideas and food related headcanons in general for the Oak Family.
Cw for food discussion, commune talk, and "good" or "bad" foods. I'd like to start off with saying food has no morality there is no such thing as a bad food.
So the oak family is vegan growing up. Henry on the commune didn't eat meat, and when he got to earth he couldn't. I think in the episode where they're at Bull E Wug's and order chicken wings one of them throws up right after having a bite and I'm not sure which.
I headcanon it's a general intolerance for meat. They're descended from forest elves, it's not in their nature to consume flesh and Henry cannot eat meat whatsoever. It upsets his stomach, he throws up and generally feels bad about it. Even if he doesn't know a dish has meat in it he will get sick from eating it. His body cannot produce the right enzymes to digest meat, and sometimes other things like hard cheeses and fiber dense vegetables like artichokes.
Raising his boys, everything was home made. Henry had the free time when he wasn't working his museum job to make sure everyone was getting the right amount of nutrients. Balancing out their meals to make sure everything was in order and making home made snacks to keep in the fridge that anyone could have at any time. In the commune, food was used as control. He wanted his boys to grow up with the freedom to eat when hungry instead of having to wait till they'd accomplished something. Always offering seconds at meal times and when he had the time making a dessert that anyone could take as much of as they wanted. Sometimes the snacks he'd make were nasty or dry, but he attempted to give his kids that freedom and security.
Lark and Sparrow are a little different. As children they inherited the intolerance for meat but in the same way someone is mildy lactose intolerant. Tummy upset, maybe some bloating but it was way worse when they were kids. Like Henry they got the projectile vomiting, fever and chills from it so their household mainly avoided meat and meat products for a long time. Mercedes will never forget the day she fixed them each a bologna sandwich while Henry was away just to see what would happen. The backseat of the Subaru never smelled the same again.
Lark doesn't care. In the same way that I guzzle milk by the gallon the man will have meat with every meal. At first it was a way to slight his father by cooking meat in his kitchen as a teenager, but as an adult he feels fine eating it. His body has gotten used to meats but mainly poultry like turkey and chicken. He can't eat duck though, for some reason his body rejects it more than any other meat. When Sparrow pisses him off he likes to take his sweet time in cooking a nice steak dinner. Lark doesn't care about his physical health very much, too depressed to think about it. He will eat just about anything if it's Infront of him. Some nights he'll slam a bag of chips for dinner. Buys his own groceries because he lives in an ingredient household. He would live if TV dinners if he didn't live with Sparrow.
Sparrow is different. He doesn't eat meat, it still makes him feel icky to think about where it came from and while he can eat it he doesn't like to. Sometimes he'll eat fish but it must be cooked to his very particular set of rules. Food rules as he has held in his home. Growing up in the chaotic environment of Henry and Lark arguing over everything, Sparrow tried to find some semblance of control. Part of that as a teenager was cooking meals with his dad. Making snacks to keep the pantry stocked, learning about how to make balanced nutrient rich meals. Then things were different when it was just him and Lark. His brother doesn't take good care of himself and Sparrow noticed early on, early enough to realize if he did all the shopping he could control what food was available in the house. No chips, no snack cakes, no hot dogs or processed "crap" as he put it. Home style cooking that was all the nutrients one could ever need. It started off fine, then it got bland, then they had the same thing for every meal. Unlike Henry and Mercedes, Sparrow didn't have as much free time. Working full time, sometimes two jobs to keep himself and his brother afloat it was easier to make the same thing every day. If Lark didn't want to eat it then he could starve because Sparrow refused to cook anything else. Why cook anything else when this meal was easy and had everything you needed right there?
Things got better when he and Rebecca moved in together. She encouraged him to try and break his unhealthy habit of control. More options in the fridge, and wide range of spices, even cooking oil and butter in the fridge. Things still needed to be home made but for a time Sparrow was a little more relaxed on what he put in his body.
Then the kids came, and they got older. Chaotic little creatures that will sink their teeth into anything they're given. Lark did a lot of the child rearing while Sparrow and Rebecca worked, but rules were made when Sparrow came home to find Hero running around with a fistful of goldfish crackers he definitely didn't buy nor approve of. Assumed Lark was trying to get his kids to an early grave, why else would he give her goldfish crackers? "If they never have junk food they won't know they like it" he'd told Lark a few times.
And it's true. Sparrow packed the kids lunches and told teachers they were allergic to meat (assuming Hero and Normal had the same sensitivity he and Lark had and didn't want to find out the hard way). Hero caught on quick that the good tasty snacks were at school or in the basement in her uncle's cabinet. Normal took a lot longer to convince to stray from Sparrows' ways. Why would his dad lie to him? He never did that ever.
Then middleschool cafeteria pizza looked really, really good instead of the unseasoned air fryer tofu shoved in his lunch box. He tried it and felt sick but it was the best pizza he'd ever had. It had real cheese on it and meat. He thought Sparrow would understand, instead he was met with a major freak out about "poisoning yourself" and how school food "wasn't clean". Normal didn't know food was supposed to be clean, yeah it was oily but that's what made it taste good right?
Post s2 Normal has taken up the oak family tradition of buying his own groceries and cooking steak in the kitchen when Sparrow pisses him off. Sparrow frets about his kids and brothers eating habits, sticking to the same meal he's eaten for years with little variations made to make his wife happy.

Thoughts on Irep?
i find him to be pretty cool!! i actually wrote up a response for this question before i was even aware he made an appearance in the latest episode, and surprisingly got a few things right. so i'll paraphrase some of that original text:
"a new wish has been consistently bringing back older characters and concepts to re-introducing them in a way that expands and strengthens the existing lore. it isn't a question of whether irep would appear, but in what manner. because of how peri is, unless they make an insane twist that would negate all the fluff the cosma-fairywinkle family has had up until this point, (which i doubt,) irep would still be an antagonist. so they'd have to introduce him as a real threat, along with a new rule"
and they did
my first thought was that irep is hideous and i LOVE him for that. i truly do. i couldn't stop laughing. 10/10. what even is that haircut. someone get him a barber from fairy world
my second thought was that having him be an anti-fairy godparent to dev is fantastic. i already enjoy dev's character and his constant conflicts with everyone around him, because i believe it's only accurate, you know? for someone who has been neglected and led on for so long, the only thing he wants is for someone to consistently be there for him, and yet, there's always something that gets in the way. there's always a but when it comes to loving him
so he fills the void with material possessions and glory that he knows deep down he doesn't need or want
this show is threatening to break the characters' core beliefs than actual, physical dangers. in the original show, the threats have mainly been death, physical injury, or otherwise world-ending catastrophes. most of hazel and dev's problems are "small-scale" compared to those. the plot instead hinges on their relationship and internal character conflicts. a new wish is about family relations and trust. dev's lack of it is glaringly obvious, and it shows in his erratic behavior
i think the reason why dev hates peri is actually because he's his fairy godparent. there's a very clear-cut sense of obligation to grant his wishes. to him, peri is just another helper robot. another person to lie to his face and give him conditional love. another source of money. he already has an abundance of that, and now he has an abundance of magic too! and then dev finds out that some wishes can't be granted at all. it's like the universe is against him. i really can't blame the kid for wanting another "solution"
so we have this fundamentally good but misguided character who is offered that solution in the form of a demon. if that's what gets him his happiness, he'll do whatever it takes, since taking is all he's ever known
what i particularly enjoy is dev's willingness to do these bad deeds. because the thing is, dev's first wish was something he thought up himself. and irep never gave suggestions. it's not so much that irep has a magical influence over him that makes him do bad things, but that dev is naturally making bad decisions because he thinks it's what'll fix all his problems. that means it'll also be up to him to realize the weight of his actions and the awfulness of his father. then again, he didn't blame his father for his actions in the ep "operation: birthday takeback,' but hazel. he also doesn't think to hold himself accountable for any of the events that occurred in "lost in fairy world," even though it was his fault too. so i don't expect him to realize it right away, or in a sensible manner. it would be funny if dev tries to summon irep through ritual, or barges into anti-fairyworld demanding him. i'm thinking that we'll get a friday the 13th episode, but we can only speculate so much with what we have
the episode does bring up some other cool things to think about:
"it's irep now thanks to your irritating son's name change!" now this line really caught my eye, because it puts into question the free will of anti fairies. in irep's first appearance as foop, he already found his name "unfortunate," merely accepting it instead of, you know, changing his name to something that separates him from poof. they're trapped in their realm and they have to abide by the rules set in place by the fairies, unable to so much as fight back without using legal technicalities because their jorgen is too weak to help. this is already an unbalanced dynamic. and then in the episode "terrors twosome," it's shown that anti-fairies are quite literally tied to their counterparts, and not just branching off of each other in a "what if" scenario. they're a separate kind of entity meant to compliment fairies, but not so much the other way around
i say this because the second fairies stopped having babies, anti-fairies did too. i don't think we get to see or have anyone comment about how it went down, so anti-cosmo might've been as much of a handful as cosmo was, but if they're meant to be opposites, wouldn't anti-cosmo be an easy baby? independent from the get-go like irep was? then it wouldn't be that they chose to stop having babies, but that they couldn't. not without their counterpart having them first
but even if this was all true, they genuinely seem to enjoy creating the chaos that they do. their intentions are always just as cartoonishly bad as we think it is
if irep wanted chaos, he could just try causing it on his own, but then jorgen would be involved if ever the wishes get too big and out of hand. could having a godchild be another loophole? "a child must always get what they want" is a legitimate rule that was able to override the other rules set, and allowed hazel to have cosmo and wanda as her godparents even if they failed the trials
if an anti-fairy had a godchild, they'll be free to cause a moderate amount of chaos whenever they want as long as it was to the whims of the child. also, it's clear irep still has issues with validation and being compared to peri, since he tears up and goes "that's all i ever wanted to hear," when dev calls him better than peri. it's funny to see irep still clings on to their rivalry when it looks like peri could care less about it anymore
buuutttt i like to think that irep genuinely wants a godchild. there's a deleted scene from the episode "oddlympics" (found it on page 5 of this script) where anti-cosmo cries over not having a godchild, which we know that fairies use to fill the "void" of not being able to have children. irep mostly takes after his father, and even from the little time we've seen with him on the same screen as his parents, it's clear that anti-wanda loves him as well. and, for all his attempts to make himself look evil and irredeemable, he was jealous of peri, who was famous and had the love and adoration of the masses for existing. he wants that for himself, too. it's why he wanted peri gone in the first place
(that info combined with peri and irep's mutual hate for theatre means that fairies and anti-fairies may still share some similarities not reliant on their innate link to each other)
so, imo, it's not a stretch to think that irep wants a kid to love and who will love him in turn, albeit in a sorta corrupt way. it would be an interesting twist too!!
all-in-all, i'm excited for what the show will have in store for peri, irep, and dev. i expect a silly episode where peri and irep go head-to-head with granting dev's wishes, and i'm hoping for an ep that shows irep and his anti-parents
that's all,
:)

New alter??? :00
Yippie yahoo :3
Pls drop the new alter op 🙏🙏/nf
Hahaha, I knew someone was gonna ask! You have activated my trap card! I won't say everything, but you may have a little knowledge, as a treat!
This alter doesn't particularly like speaking. They would prefer nonverbal forms of communication if possible. They theoretically can speak most of the time, they just don't like it and struggle more with it than with nonverbal communication.
I feel like this alter would be most likely to have their first interaction with a member of family be Odile, though they likely still wouldn't want to. This is not because Odile would catch them, though she probably would anyway.
Once they're introduced to everyone, I feel like they'd be pretty ok with anyone and everyone hanging out with them, though they would like alone time sometimes, because they don't want the family around for [REDACTED FOR AU PLOT SPOILERS]
Ok, ok, I'll tell you the plot spoilers has something to do with at least one thing related to the Island, and so they don't want the family getting headaches and such, but that's all you get! Come on, you didn't think I'd give it all away, did you?
In all honesty though, I intend to throw my ideas for the Island in here, as this is very Sifstem centric and I do want to add the island for many reasons. This alter is here partly for the plot reason of "I need someone to kick off this plot point, Mal Loop and Siffrin all wouldn't do what I need them to, and it has to be someone from the Island! Oh wait, system AU, I'll just make a new alter!"
And also partly for the reason of "I want alters that came from before canon and this is an excuse to make one"
And also just the rule of "it's my AU I will have fun with it"
Thanks for the ask, Anon! And also thanks for the tone tag! /gen

Welcome, Welcome!
What do we have here?~ A lost little cookie who's wandered into my domain- Wait, What do you mean "who's Pale Milk cookie?' I'm the sixth Beast Cookie, the Beast of Impulsivity. You should know this! I know I've been asleep for a while but leaving the tree was very tiring okay? You don't remember there being six of us? I think there's something wrong with your head. . .. ... You really don't remember me? okay, fine. Here's the sitch My name's Pale Milk Cookie, former Virtue of Patience- current Beast of Impulsivity. I'm the oldest out of all of us but not by that much. does that ring a bell yet? No? *sigh* of course it doesn't OKAY! Guess I have to do this the hard way!~ What I'm about to tell you, you CANNOT under ANY circumstances tell the other beasts. Capiche?
Here the REAL sitch. My name's still Pale Milk Cookie but I'm not a beast cookie. It'd be more accurate to say that the beast cookies are me, at least in a sense. I was handmade by Gabriel, Witch of Opportunity- Yes, those Witches. Can I get back to what I was saying? Okay! where was I? ah yes! I was made by Gabriel as a familiar, not as snack. Don't ask me how he did it, but he made me strong enough so I wouldn't crumble the second something went wrong or something fell on me. I spent a lot of time with the witches and during it I learnt three main things 1- I wasn't made with Cookie on Cookie interaction in mind and therefore should not do that. 2- Earthbread is cool. 3- I wanted to go to Earthbread. This posed a bit of a problem. Since if I wasn't meant to interact with other cookies, then I definitely should not be on Earthbread. according to both Gabriel AND the other Witches. Thankfully for me Gabriel was never a stickler for the rules. So Bada Bing! Bada Boom! I'm in Earthbread. Now what happens between them and becoming a Beast Cookie? Not all that much actually... I took on a few different identities, caused some chaos, had some fun and watched the drama unfold!~ I think it was about a few years later that I learnt some of the other Witches were trying their hand at making a Cookie like me. As soon as Gabriel found out he told me. He found it quite hilarious since none of them had bothered to ask for his recipe which would've made it a lot easier. I thought almost nothing of it until Gabriel randomly told me that they'd been baked and would soon be arriving in Earthbread to serve as godly figures. now I'd have appreciated a bit more of a warning then 'Remember when I told you the others were copying my work, and badly at that? well they're done, new gods are coming to Earthbread. Have fun pretending to be one or whatever you choose to do!' And like yeah I would do that but a time frame of when they'd be here would've been nice! so fast forward a bit and I've successfully cemented my place as a Beast cookie!, I mean yeah there were a few missteps and surprises in the beginning Like why the hell didn't Gabriel warn me they'd all have soul jams!? I had to grab a rock and improvise! Also I'm pretty sure the other Witches got a hold of the leftover dough from when Gabriel made me, since no way in hell is Shadow milk cookie not related to me in some way! he could practically be my younger brother! don't you dare tell him that though
Ooc Hello! this an Ask/RP blog dedicated to my Oc pale Milk cookie. If the text is in white then It's Pale Milk cookie/in character. If it's in gold then It's me speaking directly! I've finally made this blog after lots of debate. I will be trying to interact with other CrK RP blogs so if you're one of them and reading this then please let me know if you do not want me to interact with you. I've asked a few Rp accounts as an anon If they accept Oc RPs. Those of you who responded are the ones I will try to interact with but If you would like me not to, just let me know in my DMs.

Madame Marzi I must defer to ur wisdom
Recently you rb’d a painting with some younger ladies and in the tags talked a bit about short hair in Victorian Times
Do you have any reference for how shorter hair was styled at the time? I’ve seen plenty of paintings and such with VERY short hair (post illness or perhaps childbirth) where all you can really do is smooth it back, but what about that awkward, past the shoulders sort of stage where it’s too long to just brush back but too short to do much to? Surely they had some styling guides..?
(Also, a side question— how old would one be before going from shorter skirts to adult/full length ones?)
The two little girls in the garden (probably preteens-young teens)? Yes, I did!
It's hard to find images of women with in-between hair lengths, and I'm not sure why. Possibly because they'd find ways to put it up with false hair, whereas hair too short to put up is more obvious in photos. This could also have to do with the type of woman who has pixie- or bob-length hair voluntarily vs. mid-length: the latter is more likely to be attempting a grow-out, and thus to try her darndest to do The Culturally Accepted Long Hair StylesTM where a lady who chose a much shorter look wouldn't care. If that makes sense? Because, indeed, some of the women with very short hair were not ill or postpartum: ladies could, and did, choose to eschew long locks back then. It wasn't very common, but it happened.
(Nicole Rudolph has an excellent video about localized short hair trends for ladies during the Victorian era.)
You see a lot of these bob-type looks in photographs where the hair is center-parted and either naturally curly or curled on purpose, around the mid-19th century:
(1850s or 60s)
(Author, feminist, and abolitionist Anna Elizabeth Dickinson- no relation to Emily that I know of, though Anna was also a queer female writer around the same era -c. 1860s. She wore her hair short all her life, so it was voluntary in this case.)
(Also 1860s.)
Pre-Raphaelite muse Fanny Eaton frequently appears to have chin-to-shoulder length hair, though given that she was Black with a corresponding hair texture, it's hard to tell what the actual length is- it may be long and looped up in the 1850s-60s styles popular when she was most commonly painted (most free Black women in England and the US wore styles also popular with white women, to the best of their abilities given that fashion plates assumed European-textured hair as the "norm"):
(Fanny Eaton, 1861. Also worth noting that we have no images of what her hair looked like when she wasn't posing for fantastical paintings.)
I've never actually seen an image of a Victorian woman with mid-length hair outside the context of theatrical or artistic images from the end of the century, now I think of it. Huh. It's a mystery, I suppose!
As for skirts, while in earlier periods children had basically worn miniature adult clothing, it became fashionable around the 1830s-40s to dress girls in short skirts and boys in short pants. The usual rule was knee-length until around age 10, then mid-calf-length until somewhere between 16 and 18 when skirts would be "let down" and the girl would start wearing her hair up, becoming a young adult in the eyes of society. (Contrary to popular belief, this had nothing to do with marriage- while you were theoretically eligible for it when you started dressing as an adult, girls/women younger than 20 were still often considered a bit too immature to marry. It wasn't forbidden, but many people thought it unwise. And yes, unmarried young women did still wear their hair up and their skirts long.)
...unless she preferred her hair short, which as you can see, was an option!
