Hey everyone!

so its been.. *checks watch* a little over a month since my last post. i am not yet posting confessions again yet, but expect the queue to start up again within maybe a week :-) i have a break from school soon, so i decided to start this account back up again.

but, as i said, confessions will not yet be posted. This is because i want to take the time to get other mods on this account, because it is admittedly tiring to run this account by myself =_= though, the form i have previously mentioned, has not been made. i think it would be simpler if those interested simply dmed me and stated what they'd help the account with. (aka im lazy and dont really want to make a form lollll)

20dollarlolita pattern school step 3) prep and pattern selection.

NOTE: Here's a link to the pattern school discord. If this link has expired, please message me off-anon and I can send you one. I like to get to know everyone in the pattern school and so I don't let too many people in at once, so that I don't get overwhelmed.

So quick summary of where we were: Pattern School is a project that I'm working on in this blog, and that has an accompanying Discord server. The purpose of Pattern School is to teach people, though hands-on experience, the consistent conventions that sewing patterns use. It also teaches basics about how to transform patterns into designs that do what you want them to do. Pattern School is divided up into steps. Each step builds on the skills of the previous one, and each one teaches new elements.

Here's the pattern school tag, in chronological order.

In step 1, everyone follows a commercial pattern with notches, grainlines, and written instructions. This pattern is for something that is not fitted to a human body/is not multi-sized. In this step, we make sure that everyone has a basic foundation understanding of how commercial patterns are made. We choose a non-fitted item so that selecting the correct fit and adjusting for body shape is not necessary. If the student wishes, an additional challenge for step 1 will be to look at a pattern, see if it's usable in lolita fashion, and make good fabric and trim selections to make a usable lolita item.

In step 2, we take a pattern for pajama pants and use it to create bloomers. This step introduces the basics of pattern manipulation. We go into how to remove seam allowance, measure ourselves for fullness, and assemble a garment from a modified pattern. Once again, there is a challenge of choosing good trim and fabric options to build a usable lolita garment.

In step 3, we will be making a lolita or lolita-adjacent garment for ourselves. This garment will be a fitted item, and it will have a closure. What's a closure? Closures are something that opens and closes to allow the wearer to get in and out of the garment. Closures can be zippers, button plackets, hooks and eyes, IDK freaking magnets or something, if you want to put velcro as a closure then more power to ya, but your garment needs to have some kind of closure. I've made resources for how to put in zippers, but other closures are probably also acceptable. Pullover elastic is not a closure. We are making a garment for ourselves because it's a lot easier to make a fitted garment when you have the body you're using right there with you at all times. If you are always with another human being while you sew, you could probably use them, but the critical component is that you have the body accessible to you all the time.

This time, the challenge is also to make something that either can be part of your lolita wardrobe, or that forces you to choose and style something that has a lot of lolita fashion aesthetics. If you want to pick a lolita-adjacent concept, like Aristocrat or Fairy Kei, you're probably fine? If you're doing this on your own, the person who decides if you're cheating is you. If you're in the Discord, you can ask if something's acceptable and like 15 people will disagree with it before tagging me and then I make up an answer on the spot. I firmly belive that Ouji is just lolita with pants and doesn't need to be stated separately.

I previously made a very long list of garments that you can make EGL fashion with, but it's older and some of the patterns are out of print. So, here's a few hours of me going through the big 4 pattern website and finding stuff that has potential.

So quick note: my image editing software kept refusing to function with images off simplicity.com, so we're going to alternate between funky screenshots and semi-competent images. I'm not sorry.

Any time you're making a lolita dress from an existing dress pattern, you'll need to check that the skirt will hold our petticoats. Frankly, most of them don't. You've done the bloomer step, so you do have experience with this kind of modification, but I'll do a tutorial later about checking this and drafting your own skirt onto an existing bodice. For step 3, doing a commercial pattern for the bodice and then following a web tutorial for the skirt totally counts. What we're looking for in a dress pattern is the ability to mod it into a working lolita dress. Please note that Simplicity 8444 (the pirated-but-not-pirate lolita dress) and Simplicity s9735 (the “why'd you use Derpy-chan??”) dresses are not eligible for Step 3, as they are both elastic pullovers.

Blouses: However, Simplicity 8444 and s9735 both have blouses that work for step 3. If you want to build the JSK on your own and then follow the blouse pattern for step 3, you're good.

The McCall Titanic looking thing is a really fun blouse to make for this, and it's got a back zipper, so if you're not confident in your button-sewing then it's a good option.

Any button-up that goes all the way to the neck has some lolita potential. M8463 is actually pretty loliable on its own.

Vests are easy to make, don't take a lot of fabric (so you can use some really fancy fabric and have it not break the bank). You're going to have to find a good reference image for lolita but they're really good for ouji and aristocrat, so they get a category.

I've just always wanted to make my own lolita coat so they get a category. Once again, you're going to need to double check that the flare fits your skirts.

Welcome to the weird shit category. There's a costume shop near me that sells these funky bolero steampunk things and I've always wanted to put it in a coord, so it's on here. The other one is a top that you could probably use as the top half of a JSK, so if you want to make a coordinating skirt then you could have some fun separates. I think handmade lolita needs more coordinating separates. They're a real thing but I want them to be more common.

So that's in no way a complete collection of patterns you can use, but I hope that's got some kind of inspiration about pattern. My test garment was made off an etsy pattern. There's plenty of other patterns out there. This was just the fastest way for me to showcase some patterns that do work.

We'll do a little more about looking at style lines and finding how to understand this a little better in the future, but for now here we are.

He leans over the lab table and watches you, his calloused fingers playing with your lab's badge. "You look so cute in this picture, you'd look cuter if you had even shorter hair." He brushes your hair and smiles. "Even shorter? No way, I know where this is going. I'm not getting a mohawk," you chuckle. "Oh c'mon, imagine how cute we'd look, me with my mohawk and you with yours, we'd be the perfect couple." He smiles and winks.

"Mm, no." He chuckles, "Fine, love." His warm lips on your cheek, "At least let me get some cuddles after this. My little dummy deserves some cuddles for being so smart," he whispers by your ear. It wasn't that he wanted to pull you away from your job but he knew you'd been working on the research for over 12 hours and he knew rest was much needed. Ghost says as he is squished between both of you. "We know," Soap and you say at the same time, Soap giving you a soft kiss on the forehead.

"Don't cry for me" he begged and she almost threw up before being able to talk.

"I can't have you do this anymore" she cried and his hands cradled her hair slowly turning his harsh touch into a soft and loving one as if a switch had been pulled.

"I can't have your blood on me please just go! I can't have you die on me please!" She begged back Her voice made him want to start to cry but he kept reminding himself not to.

"Please please i can't have you die, please don't leave me, please please i need you? Can't you hear me leave go away I'm letting you go! You can't be in any guard! Your gonna live on a farm in the east, with flowers and a pretty wife who can make you those cookies you like-" she was trembling in his arms.

"You make those cookies!" His lip's escaped a cruel laugh

"And somebody who can kiss all your scars without having to remember all the faces of the one who did them! I'm sorry I just can't-" he was absolutely raging in fear.

"I'm not gonna die. Never. Just please don't do this." He asked softly and she hit her head against his bare chest her fingers holding onto his thighs cursing.

"Im not somebody that you deserve to die on not after what i've done." Was all she brought out her tears drying on his hands.

"You haven't done anything you weren't supposed to do-"

"No you said it yourself. I'm a spoiled little girl who now has to do things for herself. My fathers blood is on my hands. My mothers blood was always on my account and she, my best friend. died for me because I couldn't keep my mouth shut. And you have all these scars that I'm supposed to have. Your done." She had pushed his touch back even though it made her want him more.

"Your leaving. Your gonna go. And I swear if you come back I'm gonna find a way to actually hurt you and I don't mean in a physical way." She panted her tears we're long gone now the only thing that coused her checks was a light blush and anger.

"No. No. You can't do this. I'm not gonna go, you can't make me. I pledged my life on yours." he was already standing as soon as she wasn't sitting anymore and his anger tuned to fear.

"Please just go!" He was already back to her and his hands we're back in her hair his forehead pressing on her's and her hands tried to take his of by his wrist's but even if she was stronger than him wouldn't have worked.

"Just let me-" she cut him off by pressing her lips on his the sweet sound of his voice turning into a whimper and leaving him stunned.

"Please go" she asked kissing him again.

"Please I don't want you to die." She let his hands go and pushed him back by his chest in the weak moment but it only took a second of his look for him to be back on her and her hands running through his hair.

"If I'm dying that means your already dead" He says his hands grabbing her waist and pulling her closer while she muses a muffled moan.

"Your leaving." Was all she responded and he made her walk backwards until her back hit the wall his fingers coming up underneath her shirt and unclasping her bra and taking her shirt of with it. His lips attached to her throat and bite into her skin until her throat made out a gagging scream which meant he left the bite mark to make more on other places.

spearmaster (sabry), rivulet (ripley), and hunter (sayda) all move in next door to artificer (asiya), gourmand (gundruna), and their foster kids atm (previously mentioned vivo and marigold.) they're all pretty cool and everything is chill for a while, until this unsettling and traumatized child from the horribly forlorn sliver of straw district moves in with the foster parents. saint (seraphim) is deeply off-putting, but no one can place why. surely, nothing is going to happen as a result of welcoming them into their little friend group...

Don't ask me that!! There's lots of ships to love, and idh the same ride or die (or any, tbh) feeling for my previously main one anymore. Goes to show that it just changes with time (maybe this current answer will too!)

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

SIKE I don't start things I know I won't finish (involves an elaborate planning procedure, ask @getawayfox ) and once I start them I push through it even if I have to drag myself crying (I'm insane I know)

16. What are your writing strengths?

I love writing dialogue, and some people have told me it's nice, so I shall go with that!

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Ohh loads I reckon,, I'm going to stick to sharing run on sentences and can't write long plots. Cos I have to do lots of academic writing and copywriting, and that's going pretty steady, so idw to break that and spiral by thinking too much about this :') esp cos idh much time and energy to write fiction rn

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

Yes if done right! Like you do things to make sure you don't throw off those who don't know that language and like make it part of the flow. And/Or footnotes! I've done dialogue in Hindi in my fics, and I've written an entire one in a script play format in Hindi too for @curlyy-hair-dont-care

do you make your own bed? Yes, I like my room to feel neat, and also (gross sorry) I leave an extra blanket on top of everything during the day in case my cat has a hairball so it doesn't get on my comforter.

what's your job? I am clinical social worker and work in a specialty medical setting. I try not to get too specific on the interwebs.

if you could go back to school, would you? Like, in the future? Or redo school in the past? Let's go future, no use ruminating on the past - yes, I actually enjoy school, I would do an MPH in the future if my work would pay for it, I would also love to take more French and Spanish classes.

can you parallel park? Yes! I am a city gal. I have a driveway now but where I lived before I mostly parked on a side street.

Do you think aliens are real? Undecided? There's at least gotta be little microorganisms and stuff other places, fully developed societies and stuff, though, idk.

can you drive a manual car? Yes! They are not as common in the States but I owned one previously. I also have a motorcycle license and shifting is similar but the throttle is in your hand and the clutch is at your right foot.

what's your guilty pleasure? How bout we reword this "little things to treat yo'self" : sour gummy worms, Selena Gomez' music, a lil piece of chocolate with an afternoon coffee.

any phobias? mmm not really.

favourite childhood sport? Soccer was the only thing that stuck as a child, and it propelled me into distance running, so I am thankful for it!

Tattoos? Just one. I had some medical issues and wasn't allowed to get any for a while (had to have antibiotics for dental cleanings, the whole shebang) but got cleared again last year, my bestie and I are planning a matching one.

Do you like puzzles? NO. I am not a puzzle person. I'll still hang out with you just give me literally anything else to do, let me color, or wash your dishes, something.

wait actually thinking more about that follower gap post, what is the tasw universe btr fandom's feelings towards roxy? i guess we see a bit of it in the tour letters chapter, and hopefully more in big time contest? are they public at this point? is she, as a girl their age on the team, being shipped with any other member?

hi!! the answer to this is simultaneously simple and complicated. as usual i have a long answer for you!

in short: no, btr fandom doesn’t know more than she’s their touring guitarist and if they did some research they’d find her listed as the writer on many of their songs. james and roxy aren’t public and there’s a few reasons why! as far as the fandom is aware, she just works with the band. after carlos told her he loved her at that one show tho some people might think they’re cute together but more on that later

in long: ah! i’ve already tried to incorporate this in so many ways and i have not found a way i like quite yet. i’ve set many little things up - you are so right about the letters chapter! rox makes a comment about getting some boos when carlos kisses her because we all know what fandom typically does to women who date guys in boybands 😭 in roxy’s birthday chapter, she and james get stopped in santa monica and people start taking pictures of him and he throws his coat over her head and pulls her away from the pier because of some “media training” he said he got from gustavo. jo mentions the same thing happening to her while she was out with kendall before the pair were forcibly made public by her publicist (which is also briefly mentioned; skipped that ep bc i didn’t like the sneaker storyline sorry!) so there’s little crumbs im attempting to put in here and there i just can’t decide what to do with them. i thought about adding another section onto the minnesota chapter where roxy convinces her old boss to let her have her show again for a night where she can “interview” (read: fuck around with her boyfriend in the radio studio for four hours) james and he’d forget to turn his mic off before calling her babe or something and accidentally make their relationship public but 1) the chapter was already way too long and 2) like what do i do then. write an even longer chapter the next time around to fix what i wrote previously? i do not have the same time i used to when i started writing this to just get down like 20 pages a night LMAO. i loveeeee writing don’t get me wrong but it’s just hard for me currently and low interaction on original portions of the story are not very motivating. (but i���m not writing for the engagement don’t worry! it’s just a bonus!!!)

so yeah like it’s THERE it’s just not there.

besides. i want james and roxy to have a conversation about it too but i think he’s probably tweaking out about it bc of gustavo’s “training” and she would love to be public i just don’t think she understands what being in the spotlight really means and she doesn’t want to come off as too pushy because he hasn’t brought it up. neither of them really know what to expect from a public relationship with a public figure. but i mean. they’re out to their friends and stuff obviously! so maybe that might come back to bite them in the butt later idk. i have literally so many thoughts about this i promise itll be in there at some point i just don’t know when :)

1. how many works do you have on ao3?

39 right now, but I know I've orphaned about that many as well

2. what fandoms do you write for?

right now... all guild wars 2.

previously I've done a lot of metro 2033, half life, jojo's bizarre adventure, digimon, katekyo hitman reborn... and then less of hlvrai, final fantasy vii, and fruits basket... gw2 is all i do for right now. <:)

3. what are your top 5 by kudos?

This is super skewed because I orphaned a tooooon of my more popular stuff but Nuclear Option, two other vrai fics, Lent (<- should be number 1 if we're being honest and true) and a fruits basket thing that i should have probably also orphaned. the overwhelming urge to orphan things to skew the data further. you have to hold me back

4. do you respond to comments?

yes but not in a timely fashion (last round took me. over a year before i replied to anything. pensive.

5. what is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

I dunno about actually angsty.... the fic that makes me cry every time is butterfly bridge; I wrote it after having to put a pet to sleep. if I ever got around to writing more "portal to the metro" the ending would probably also rank up there. due to. the tragedies.

6. what is the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

proooooobably Lent? idk I feel like I get a lot of "fuck yeah that ending ohhh the catharsis" type reactions on Lent.

7. do you get hate on fics?

I have a number of times. sometimes anon but sometimes people put their names to it?

yes. sorry. the apologetic kind.

not often... usually a crossover is a pretend thing just for me in my Imagination. however. portal to the metro... it was a roleplay between myself and a friend. and then i started writing it in earnest. and then i got tired. then i started writing primarily gw2 stuff. you understand. but someday I'll return to it. and then they'll all be sorry.

10. have you ever had a fic stolen?

um. kind of. when I was 17-18 I plotted out a fic I was working on and shared it with a couple of dear close friends. and then like a couple weeks later a massively popular person in the fandom in question posted my fic: their version. down to every little detail. 🙈 never found out which of my friends shared the planning with them.

11. have you ever co-written a fic before?

yeah, Pluto's Moon -- started 8 years ago, finished almost a year later... I wouldn't bother rereading it at this point but. it was a fun experience. we had fun. I also cowrote several chapters of a Reborn crossover fic with my long distance mmo friend when I was a freshman in high school. I don't think we ever got anywhere with it let alone posted it to FFN or anything-- I was handwriting short chapters between classes lol. I might still have those pages somewhere...

and then I think I would also consider portal to the metro a co-write in many ways. because it came from both of us :)

well. I think Canach/Alba has been too prominent for too long for me not to say it. canon/oc numero uno!!!!!!

i dont even wanna answer and jinx it nooooo cry2. I yearn to finish everything... i guess maybe I have some weird misc smut fics I don't anticipate finishing. due to the strangeness.

I have no pacing control. I can't meet goals, OR i'll go full crazy and write 160k in 2 weeks. you have to watch out because that can happen to you too if you just go off your antipsych meds for a while

also filling in the stuff AROUND dialogue. so often i'll be editing a fic and just (sighs) dama (me) you (i) can't just have 8 lines in a row of dialogue. what are these people doing in between talking. and then dama (me) is like alright wise guy why don't you take a crack at it if you're so smart. and i do. but in the moment of writing i'm not super good at figuring out the in betweeeeeeens.

also I feel like ending scenes and such is really hard. also getting characters from point a to point b (locations) without doing a timeskip to "well here we are at point b!"

19. have you ever had a fic translated?

I had someone ask to do so with one of my metro fics, to repost on a Russian fanfic site; I wasn't particularly attached to the fic so I told them go ahead. but also I have no idea if it ever happened. heart hands. so maybe. there may have been another but I don't rember.
