It irritates me alot when people say that making medic more compassionate is ''missing the point of his character'' when he is literally shown to be in the comics.... did you miss the part where he showed concern for both sniper and miss pauling's well being in comic 5 and 6.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
His actions are a combination of genuine attachment + clinical interest and these things do not cancel out one another. He is always pushing boundaries and going against the grain and i think this is what led to him losing his license in the first place. He felt stifled by the rules imposed on him.
He is shown to be extremely passionate so it makes sense that he would use his endless fascination with medicine as a way to show his affection. He loves his friends so he will find a way to make them borderline indestructible. Malpractice is his love language.

Genesis's childhood award, the basis of pasteurization, and the supposed fragility of Banora Whites.
A take on it from a farm kid that actually specializes in growing apples.
Was talking with a good friend of mine last night about various takes in the fandom last night and was reminded of one I had seen semi-recently about Genesis's childhood genius in supposedly inventing pasteurization.
I want to believe this is a take that comes from being uninformed as to what pasteurization actually is, considering him being the first to invent it around the time of 1990 would show a stunning lack of technological advancements in the world of FF7. Let me explain.
Shinra has had a lot of technological advancements, and we can see those constantly portrayed clear as day throughout the world of FF7. However even in the time before Shinra, during the time of the Republic of Junon, it can also be assumed that they would have pasteurization, a process that in the real world was invented in the 1800s. Exploration of the world in Rebirth also reveals multiple areas that have shipment docks from the time of the Republic. This would include the assumption that this is how people both traveled as well as transported and exchanged goods.
Pasteurization is an incredibly important technological advancement as it's allowed for the easier shipment and trade of food on a global level. The definition can be found below.
In food processing, pasteurization is a process of food preservation in which packaged and unpacked foods (e.g., milk and fruit juices) are treated with mild heat, usually to less than 100 °C (212 °F), to eliminate pathogens and extend shelf life. Pasteurization either destroys or deactivates microorganisms and enzymes that contribute to food spoilage or the risk of disease, … (continued on Wikipedia)
There are different methods such as Low-temperature long time (LTLT), High temperature/short time (HTST) and Ultrahigh temperature (UHT) (also called Ultraheat treated) however that isn't super important to this, just know that HTST is the standard for apple juice.
The point in this being that if Genesis were to have invented pasteurization ~1990, the rest of the world would have been taking incredibly risky measures in transporting food and risking spoiling for decades, as well as various things being unsafe for consumption such as milk. With the advancements the world already had by this time such as phones, war artillery, windmills, and mako reactors, I find it highly unlikely that he would've been the one to invent pasteurization.
I feel as though it is important to mention that Genesis's award was first place in the National Agriculture Awards, but more specifically, an award in the processed food category. The processed category in these awards directly gives it away in the fact that food was already processed enough to have its own category for awards. Presentation on this is in relation to the presentation of a processed product, and not a form of processing itself. In the assumption that these reflect actual reward categories, there are different categories for scientific invention as well as processing systems.
Reference page for the names/categories presented. This is not the description document.
Agricultural Proficiency Award Area Descriptions.
Although there is the argument that they likely didn't use this same style categorizing, its important to note that they did use categories within the national agricultural awards, and they specifically made the choice of processed food, instead of any of the other choices. If he really made such an important invention, why wouldn't it be stated anywhere as clearly being pasteurization, something that would revolutionize the world, or for that matter why wouldn't it be awarded in the name of development of food science?
I believe its also worth mentioning that the Crisis Core Complete Guide says "Because the fruit can only be harvested in this region, it sells for a high price on the market, but the village children don't seem to know this, …" This would be due to the fact that the Banora Whites are common-place in Banora. In a similar way to how wagyu in Japan is significantly cheaper than it is in the United States, due to export; Genesis would have an easier and cheaper time attempting experimentation methods, if there even needs to be any variation for them, resulting in juice with correct pasteurization due to his being local to Banora. (Market price on them in Banora would be naturally lower due to supply likely being higher than demand, as well as not having to worry about import and export fees. Not to mention being the place where it is naturally grown).
*In the above example I used wagyu as a comparison, however this could just as easily be any other exported food that becomes considered rare when exported, another example which is actually more rare would be the black diamond apple.
While mentioning this, I also want to say that his invention is specifically upon Banora White Juice, not apple juice in its entirety of existence. In similarity to pasteurization, this feels like an over-exaggeration of what Genesis actually accomplished.
While branching through this topic, I also want to bring attention to a take I was sent a while back on the supposed fragility of Banora Whites. While going through the Ultimanias with assistance of a friend, nothing could be found on sources hinting towards Banora Whites being fragile. My next assumption is that this conclusion was likely reached on the basis of Banora Whites being mentioned to be region exclusive, and a high-price market item.
Banora Whites are called just that because of their area of growth being only that of Banora in the Mideel region. The growth of Banora Whites is actually tied to the amount of lifestream that flows through the Banora Underground, this gives Banora a very unique type of soil that allows for the growth of Banora Whites. Since Banora is the only place where the crop grows, giving it a very limited area of growth, and since it cannot be grown globally, gives it a very high market value.
Now into the technicality of things, it could also be assumed that the sale of the Banora White was likely tied to its aesthetics, similar to the way that the pink pineapple is in the real world. The difference here being that when juiced, the pink pineapple loses most of what it has going for it in terms of its aesthetic appearance and thus reducing its marketability and price. Meanwhile, Banora whites, while although losing what would make them have a unique aesthetic appearance, could possibly have a specific flavor to them that translates into the juice.
You see, I believe Genesis's intelligence on the matter comes from not creating some life changing way of preserving things, but rather from preventing waste. Although I do not find any info on Banora Whites being fragile, it can be argued that all apples are fragile in a sense, or at least majority of them. They're truly one of those fruits where sometimes you can chuck them at a tree and only see a bruise or dent, and other times you look at them wrong and they'll split wide open.
When thinking of an apple in general, chances are fragile is not the first word that comes to mind, as many other fruits would be considered fragile long before them, and that'd be correct. However, the harvest and transportation of apples, as well as their general growth, can be littered with complications. When moving apples in a commercial wooden apple bin, when you have hundreds of them stacked together, driving faster than even 2MPH by tractor can cause shaking and damage to the fruit by rubbing damage which can create bruising.
Banora is a remote island location, and import and export of items is likely expensive, which would contribute to the income that Banora Whites would bring in (see earlier mention of wagyu and Japan vs US price) Due to being an island, the methods of exporting would have to be either by air, which would be incredibly expensive and fuel taxing, or by ocean. I mentioned earlier that FF7 Rebirth shows multiple docks and ports that would hint towards ocean being the likely way of transportation of food and people. This would require a boat to leave from down by Banora and travel all the way up the coast through the Meridian Ocean. Constant swaying of the ocean and anything unsecured likely leads to aesthetic damages which allow for even less of the Banora Whites to reach market in aesthetically acceptable shelf conditions.
Banora and in general the Mideel Region is a very coastal region that by flora alone also appears to be a very warm and tropical one. By this assumption not only would Banora Whites possibly be prone to sunburn, a reason they likely developed their darker appearance to survive, but also being internally cooked by the heat of the sun. Also being coastal could lead to strong storms brought in by the ocean leaving damage from heavy winds, pelting rain, hail, and similar damaging weather factors. Excessive rain also typically leads to apples suffering growth cracks, which also takes them off the table for being sold to market as-is.
In the assumption that the Banora Whites would survive possibly brutal conditions that are located down in that area, due to any damage caused by going across the sea, they would likely need to be packaged first while in Banora (hence the warehouse) which would also bring up the pricing on them. However, where does this leave the fruit that's been damaged? Just because it has a crack it it or an aesthetic-only scar across the skin does not mean that the fruit is ruined or inedible. This is fruit that can be used for many different things, including juicing. Juicing is a method that ignores damages that are purely aesthetic, and allows for profit where there would otherwise be none given. Genesis's invention is that of one that prevents waste, and allows for another source of income to the area.
Juicing of apples that wouldn't make it to market would keep the price of the pure solid apples that do make it to market still profitable, while also giving use to those that wouldn't be allowed onto the shelves. While its nothing groundbreaking for the world, like pasteurization would have been, it does allow for Banora to be able to sustain itself via income more, and just overall prevent the waste of more food.
Although to some its not as glamorous if he didn't do something that fundamentally changed the world as a kid, that doesn't mean that what Genesis did isn't still something that he was worth awarding for, especially as a youth. Not only did his creation prevent the waste of food, which earned him his award, but Banora White Juice also did become a famous global hit.

Jason and Babs both being manipulative and doing it from different places of love for those around them… like…hmm
But anyways was just thinking about how like something that kind of made me do a double take when they were shown interacting in a more romantic sense was it was nice to see someone desiring Babs who had no prior romantic long lasting relationships and it not being her waiting for someone to notice her. Because yes there was Dick as Robin but a lot of it was written very sexist and Dick being the teen that he was with his crush vs Babs who was a grown woman who was desiring men her age who weren’t always desiring her back would have felt that ache. And did at times. Like if you read her original Batgirl stories it is something that has a presence until she begins her relationship with Jason Bard, and even as a younger teen there were some underlying insecurities that would get touched on here and there when it came to dating and boys not liking her. After you had the Oracle and Nightwing relationship and that was complicated with the fact that Dick had other relationships as well. Obviously there was ableism but I do wonder what it would have been like to have that dynamic where Babs who is so well connected and was the desirer and then being paired up with someone who was a loner and was doing the desiring and only for her.

This scene from issue 36 lives rent free in my head at all times. Sonic is really put between a rock and a hard place cause either take care of avalanche and save a building full of people (including some of his friends) or his save his little brother.
But can we talk about how loaded that “you’d better” is. Or at least my interpretation of it. Cause I think that’s not just directed at Tails but everyone there within earshot and means something different to everyone.
Starting with Tails - Sonic is reluctant to leave and doesn’t do so till he has confirmation from Tails that he’ll be okay. He trusts Tails judgement and is why he’s okay immediately leaving to stop the avalanche and not taking any extra time to try and save him. But that doesn’t mean he’s not worried about Tails. That “you’d better” is him telling Tails that - yeah I trust your call on this but if anything happens to you I’m gonna be upset with you (not mad like actually angry but that anger that comes from worry).
To Starline - that line is a threat. That’s Sonic saying “fuck around and find out” to Starline. If anything happens to Tails, Sonic will be coming after him so he’d better watch it.
For Shadow and Rouge - he’s basically telling them “ya’ll better take care of my little brother or we will be having some problems” He’s telling them he’s leaving Tails in their hands so they’d better watch out for him and save him cause Sonic’s trusting them with this.
And to himself - Sonic is basically saying that if something happens to Tails because he left him there to go save everyone else he will never forgive himself for it. Sonic’s saying “you’d better be okay cause I don’t know what I’ll do if you aren’t.”
Idk just thinking about this again and just how worried Sonic looks in that last panel. Also how Tails pretty much reassures him here that going to save those people is what Sonic needs to go do and go do NOW, but Tails also understands how conflicted this would make Sonic so he let’s him know it’ll be okay even if he leaves. Tails knows that if something happens him, Rouge or those people even if Sonic was put an in impossible situation, if something goes wrong Sonic will 100% blame himself. He’s trying to negate some of that guilt so if something does happen he’s the one that told Sonic to go, Sonic didn’t just leave him. (plus Tails is his own little badass, he has Rouge who’s just as cunning as him and Shadow is right there and pissed at Starline so odds are in their favor) But this is all just how I read it.

so the poll I made landed on me explaining those random character siblings i made up in my dreams so here it is!! starting with penny (short for pendulum. he/click/clack pronouns because pendulum. get it)
one night i just had a dream about a new character that was n's brother and i was like hm i like him let's keep him. some of his lore written below is based off what i dreamt and some of it was made up developing the character
penny is around 15 by the time bw2 takes place and is a human cloning experiment done by colress. colress used a mix of musharna dream mist and dna from n in order to create what's essentially n's dream self! (if you read my fanfic yeah i used the exact same concept on wuffels 💀) basically penny is how n wants to be, so he's more expressive, outgoing, and happier overall. sometimes to a fault
clack doesn't look 1:1 with n due to some discrepancies with colress's machine (and also just because this is how he looked in the dream i had). these discrepancies are part of why penny can't actually hear the thoughts of pokemon like n, it's a special ability that even n's own dream mist couldn't recreate. still, click loves pokemon as much as clicks sibling, and can understand them in other ways. he can read pokemon footprint language :)
penny wasn't raised alongside n, but was rather kept secret by ghetsis and colress in case n failed and they needed a "backup" king. n doesn't even know about click until bw2. though penny is technically a clone, click is called n's brother so as not to dehumanize click and also for simplicity's sake.
he needs dream mist to survive and retain a corporeal form, otherwise he can literally vanish, his consciousness locked away in the dream world. usually he keeps a munna around for this reason, alongside his (also a colress experiment) deerling friend, maple.
tldr penny is a silly little guy who was initially cloned from n's dreams as a plasma failsafe but grew into his own person
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
sc of me originally talking about what I dreamt.. also yeah the whole penny being made from dream mist thing is solely because I literally made him up in a dream. which isn't a plot that will continue for the other siblings btw.. they'll be in future posts with their own art!!

So many rambling thoughts about Laudna and Imogen after that episode. The insistence for Imogen to move on if Laudna dies and telling Imogen she's a DEAD END is STAGGERING like ????????? and then the thing that gets imogen 100% devoted to the stop predathos cause is the chance that the gods will in turn help with delilah riddance
like my favorite thing about their relationship is they're not technically on the same page of what their futures look like. Laudna has made it clear from the beginning that all she wants for Imogen is for her to live and have a life. Then you have Imogen, from the beginning, making it clear that a happy life is one shared with Laudna. all of that was indicated before romance was ever involved.
and then the delilah of it all!!!
Reasons why I love Delilah is part of this threesome because you cannot make up these fucking parallels of love and devotion.
“I’ll help create a god so I will stay together with my love forever.”
“I'm gonna do everything in my power so I can have a chance to stay together with my love forever.”

Can you elaborate Captain zero's relationship with Zorran and zip as well?
We see in the speech patterns Zorran has picked up on Zero's mannerisms. As well as Zip who dresses like him bc his coat.
Does Zorran feel like he needs to show his worth to captain Zero? Does Zip feel the same way.?
Also I know zip admires Zero like a son would a father. But do you think in the future he may realize Zero's 'tough love' was just him being distant. ? Is so how may he react?
thank you for asking because writing captain zero and his effect on the z-stacks (notably zorran and zip) are my most favorites parts of writing fortezza bigg city. captain zero saved zorran and zip when they were at their lowest and they feel indebted to him... in varying ways.
zorran has been around for almost 7 years -- when the z-stacks was first formed -- and seen zero's well-being slowly deteriorate. captain zero is extremely demanding of zorran and has high hopes for him, both because he's the only person he can fully depend on and because that's how it's always been. zorran still stuck around because there's this weird, smelly mixture of pity and loyalty deep inside him. there's a neat addition of zorran having to handle captain zero's personal emotional baggage ("you're the only man I can trust"). zorran is the only z-stack that knows all about captain zero's divorce, his business, his criminal relations that are still relevant to this day, and the star fleet starting from when they've established rivalry.
zorran’s emotions constantly switch between empathy and annoyance. he feels proud of himself for knowing that he is the most important person in captain zero's life and it feeds his ego but at the same time he feels like it's too much and too unimportant to digest. in private he sometimes rolls his eyes and mutter "he needs to pull himself together quickly". zorran also believes that he's grown worse from a humanitarian perspective but can't be bothered to put in effort to fix himself. not to mention the z-stacks' incompetence which just further adds to zorran's demanding attitude towards the rest of the fleet. he's slowly turning into the man he both looks up to and both looks down upon.
now onto zip. captain zero was the first grown adult in zip's life to show him a semblance of human decency (not fatherly kindness, not selfless care, but just basic human decency). zip quickly latched onto him and admired his authoritarian aura. his big cape that frames his figure, the way he speaks loudly, the weight he carries whenever he steps out of the building -- zip believes that captain zero is the perfect role model in his life (not that he's had any before him)
zip is oblivious to any sinister implications that's present. he didn't know anything about captain zero's divorce. he didn't know anything about how he's a dangerous man with criminal background and thought he's some snarky old dude. zip thinks captain zero is just giving out tough love but the man BELIEVES that his care for zip is just a secondary product of him taking zip under his wing; the primary product being there's a new errand boy who's so obedient and doesn't question his grounding no matter how demanding or angry zero gets (really, captain zero does care about zip but he's convinced himself that he's incapable of forming genuine relationships and also his ways are not the warmest or most fatherly). he keeps zip at arm's length and shoves the worst advice about relationship and love whenever zip asks him (what do you expect from a divorcee with a criminal background). whenever zip's in danger, however, captain zero is always conveniently there to help him, making zip believe further that any negative thought he feels for captain zero is not true.
zip believes that zero giving him a name because of his memory loss and providing a place to sleep means that the captain loves him unconditionally. "he's just being tough on me but I know he really really loves selflessly" when it's much more complicated than that. captain zero cares, but he also wants benefit from said care he gave.
zorran constantly looks down on zip because of his naivety, incapability to see the world outside of black-white lenses, and youthful whimsy. but zorran also feels a tinge of worry that zip's innocence will someday be "stained" (and he'll turn out to be just like him). you can even say that zorran is warmer than zero. zorran cares a lot for zip but captain zero’s personality and toughness rubbed off on zorran which makes him feel icky whenever he’s showing genuine appreciation or care, so sarcastic quips it is. zip is just like "^^ okay zorran! devious it is!"
captain zero cares for zorran and zip but his more positive feelings for them are easily overshadowed by how distant and demanding he is. he prioritizes business and personal secrecy first and foremost and thinks that building genuine relationships with others are secondary needs. the roots can be traced as far back as when he and captain star are nearing their divorce state. he’s a paranoid man. and of course, zorran and zip cares deeply for captain zero, but the way he treats them complicates zorran's feelings for him, while zip is still as confused yet jolly as ever.
in the future, though? I won't spoil anything about zip's fate in fbc, but I'll just say that people have the power to decide how they want to see someone.
