also, ply is shorthand for polysexual, not polyamorous! and people usually use 'polyam' as shorthand for polyamorous because polynesian folks voiced their discomfort for both groups using 'poly,' since they use it for themselves.

"bi/sapphic poison ivy icons" sapphic is an umbrella term, one which lesbians also fall under. it's not like... something that belongs exclusively to bisexuals and i'm not sure why the lesbian community is trying to distance itself from it?

it's not exclusive to bisexual women, no, but a lot of lesbians distance from the term 'sapphic' because a lot of people (usually people who aren't lesbians) use it as a replacement term. a lot of folks are scared of the word 'lesbian,' due to porn and people thinking it's a gross word.

and, well, sapphic is open-ended. it can mean you exclusively like women, or also like men. it just means wlw. not exclusively wlw or nblw. (only added in nblw because not all lesbians identify as women, some are nonbinary and would prefer not to be referred to as a woman.)

i personally don't use the term 'sapphic' for that reason. i'm a lesbian, not sapphic. i don't like men- and i don't want people to think there's a possibility of me liking men. other lesbians can use sapphic if they want. that's their perogative. but i just don't want there to be any sort of sign of any kind of attraction to men. (that, and i'm nonbinary. i don't like the term 'wlw' for myself.)
