it starts with riku nodding off again. his head dips lower and lower, dark lashes fluttering against his cheek as he fights a losing battle with sleep. you're sitting two rows behind him, and you can see the way his pen slowly slides out of his grip until it clatters to the desk, startling him awake for a moment. he blinks around in confusion, mumbles something under his breath, and then, just like that, he’s out again.

this isn’t a rare occurrence. maeda riku is known for being the sleepy one in class, always managing to snag a seat by the window so he can rest his head against the cool glass. at first, you’d thought it was just laziness or boredom, but over time, you’ve realized it’s just part of who he is. naturally laid-back, with a tendency to doze off whenever things get too quiet. and honestly, you find it kind of endearing. there’s something almost peaceful about the way he naps, like he’s perfectly content in his own little world.

still, you can’t help but feel a little bad for him when it means he misses parts of the lecture. the teacher’s voice drones on, oblivious to riku’s half-conscious state, and when the class finally ends, riku jerks awake with a sharp inhale, looking around as if trying to piece together where he is. his notebook is mostly blank except for a few messy scribbles at the top of the page.

as everyone files out of the classroom, you linger by your desk, watching him. he’s rubbing his eyes now, yawning so wide it makes your jaw ache in sympathy. before you can talk yourself out of it, you grab your notes and walk over to him.

"hey," you say softly, not wanting to startle him. he looks up, eyes a little glassy from sleep. up close, you notice the faint crease on his cheek where he must’ve leaned against his arm.

"oh, hey," he says, voice scratchy. "did class end already?"

"yeah," you reply, holding out your notes. "i thought you might need these. you seemed pretty tired."

his eyes widen slightly as he looks at the papers in your hand. "oh, uh, thanks. but you don’t have to—"

"i want to," you interrupt, smiling a little. "besides, it’s not a big deal. i’m already caught up, so it’s just copying for you."

riku hesitates, but eventually, he takes the notes from you with a small, grateful smile. "thanks. really. i’ll get them back to you tomorrow."

"no rush," you say, shrugging. "if you need help with anything, just let me know."

and that’s how it starts.

the next day, riku returns your notes, meticulously copied onto his own paper. you’re a little surprised by how neat his handwriting is, given how messy it looked when he tried to write during class. he thanks you again, and you tell him it’s no problem. but when he starts nodding off halfway through the next lecture, you pass him a quick note: want me to explain this later?

he glances back at you, a bit sheepish, and nods before dozing off after an attempt of staying awake. after school, you sit together in the library, going over the parts he missed. riku listens intently, occasionally asking questions or scribbling down notes. he’s quieter than you expected, but there’s something calming about it… like he’s genuinely absorbing everything you’re saying.

"you’re a good teacher," he says at one point, looking up from his notebook with a faint smile.

"and you’re a good student," you reply, grinning. "when you’re not asleep, that is."

his ears turn pink, and he laughs softly. "yeah, sorry about that. i’m just... a sleepy person, i guess."

"it’s fine," you say, shrugging. "it’s actually kind of cute."

his blush deepens, and he looks away, pretending to focus on his notes. "thanks... i think."

from then on, it becomes a routine. whenever riku dozes off in class, you’re there to fill in the gaps. sometimes it’s as simple as handing him your notes; other times, you’ll sit together after school, going over the material until he feels confident enough to handle it on his own. he’s always polite, always grateful, and you can’t help but feel a little proud when you see his grades slowly improving.

So, it’s been over a month since TPC s2e4 released, throwing us one of the biggest curveballs the show has ever created by purifying Cyanide.

Since the initial shock and anger has died down (mostly.), I wanna talk about how I personally feel about Teal and the storyline! Mainly because I’m brainrotting over Cyanide rn and wanna talk about her lmao

I don’t hate the concept of a purified Cyanide, or the concept of trying to purify her, but. It needed a LOT longer in the oven I’d say.

One thing that makes Cyanide interesting (to me, at least) is the fact she’s, well, a corrupt hero. Heroes are supposed to get rid of the corruption, and yet, there’s one made of it and spreading it. I think her having conflicting morals and being unsure of her place in the world is a really interesting concept that was kinda wasted on a short bossfight with text you had to decode in order to get the moral conflict.

Honestly, I don’t think she should’ve been purified, mainly because it just. Doesn’t make sense to me. She was born corrupted, she raised so many interesting questions, why make her part of the status quo when she theoretically shouldn’t be able to be part of it?

Also, looking at this specific merch design on RedBubble, I kind of notice something: (sorry its not transparent I had to screenshot it because the site wouldn’t let me save it otherwise)

Teal looks… honestly kind of bland compared to Cyanide.

Like, the design is cute, but there’s no flair. No intriguing choices. She barely looks like a hero, honestly.

There’s something distinct about Cyanide, I can’t quite describe it, but she stands out in a good way. She doesn’t look like a background character, she looks like someone you need to focus on. She looks like what the concept of a corrupt hero could make someone think about.

I also feel like there was a huge missed opportunity for the main gang to have a corrupt on their side, as, let’s be real, they don’t know what Dub is planning. Having someone who can gather intel from him on their side could prove invaluable.

I feel like there was so much potential that was just… thrown away by purifying her.

I also feel as if the storyline came out of the blue, and happened WAY too early after Cyanide’s introduction. It honestly feels like Brittany feels that TPC isn’t gonna last and is just throwing whatever storylines she wants to explore into s2 as weird sideplot episodes, taking away from what was supposed to be the main focus of the season: Iris, in case she doesn’t get to explore them later. Hell, Iris hasn’t even obtained a group piece yet, despite Big Giant Circles being all together and pure.

I don’t hate Teal’s existence, and a lot could be done with the concept, but it felt rushed, out of the blue, and nonsensical, while also wasting a lot of potential for a really interesting character.

Idk how cohesive this is or anything so I’m sorry if parts don’t make sense, and you’re free to give your own opinions on this as long as it’s kept civil. I don’t really wanna have to deal with a flame war or whatever over this

It’s not that it’s bad or anything, but I’m coming to the realization that they tend to be the same few genres of images and comics. I’m trying to figure out how specifically to word what I mean, but it’s not coming to mind at the moment. But they sort of evoke the same ideas and feelings I think

Technically you could say this is true of other varieties of megop as well, but usually when we see those, they’ve already been fighting for a long period of time, so you’ve got their current dynamic and long time of being apart to work with, as well as their origins. With TF One, the breakup just started, so the timeline and dynamic that comes with it is significantly more condensed and limited. If that makes sense

I’m also not criticizing people who make their dpax/megop stuff like this, honestly I probably would too if I drew them more. It’s kind of just a product of the movie being an origin story and the dynamics only now shifting between the two. There’s a very clear way to do content about them in this movie
