As you fidget and play one of your favorite videos, you start to think. You managed to slip out of class, and you didn’t even hurt yourself or make a complete mess of your room. At least that’s some progress.

You’re cut off by your thinking by a knock on the door. Not able to form words at the moments, you pull yourself out of bed and peek out of the door.

Standing there is your tall, rather intimating boyfriend.

“Eh? Shirmpy what happened? You just left class so suddenly…”

He has his usual playful drone to his voice, but you can tell the slight hint of concern, a difference you’re sure only you and his brother can notice.

You stay silent, just giving him a pained look and hoping he understand. He does.

“Not talkin’? Alright… you want me to stay?”

You’re able to give him a small nod, and he walks right in and practically jumps onto your bed, making grabby hands at you, his mood doing almost a 180, as he usually does.

You could always depend on Floyd to understand what you’re going through. He also has his fair share of his own mood swings and tantrums, he’s never judge you for your own.

You walk back to bed and slowly slink into his arms, leaning against his chest comfortably. Floyd was somehow never too hot or too cold to cuddle with. He was somehow always the perfect temperature no matter what you were feeling. It almost feels like he knows how to control his own body temperature on purpose.

He squeezes you tight, not as hard as he does when he’s mad at someone or intentionally trying to hurt them, but a real, genuine hug. And it’s perfect. Others would complain that his squeezes are way to tight, but to you it’s perfect. He’s almost like a weighted blanket. You’re glad you make him feel safe enough to hug you as hard as he wants with genuine love.

He snuggle close to you, leaving soft kisses on his he top of your head and cheek, but not anywhere that may be uncomfortable in your overstimulated time. He’s mindful of where exactly he’s touching you, he knows what parts don’t want to be touched in these moments, even the most obscure ones.

As the two of you snuggle and watch whatever you chose to put on, he mutters sweet things to you.

“I love yooou.” “My boyfriend….” “My boy.” “So handsome”

It seems like he’s in a lovey mood now. Even with his sudden switches, he always seems to know the right things that you need to hear. He also checks up on how you’re feeling.

“Are ya comfortable?” “Feelin’ any better?” “Are you too warm?” “Do ya want your stuffed animal?” “Want me to move my arms?”

When you aren’t talking, the both of you are in a comfortable silence. It starts to become hard to keep your eyes open after the day you’ve had combined with the cozy environment with your boyfriend holding you tight.

Eventually, you can’t fight the exhaustion anymore and feel yourself starting to drift. Before you fully fall asleep, you feel a soft kiss on the top of your head and the arms around you squeeze just a bit tighter.

“G’night Shirmpy, sweet dreams…”

I was tagged by several beloved mutuals, and it took me way too long to finalize my answers! special shoutout to @chimneyz for coming up with this great tag game 💖, and thank you to @bucksbignaturals, @itsametaphorok, and @theotherbuckley for tagging me!

Favorite character: Buck!!! he's SO BLORBO ahhh

Character you relate to the most: also Buck. He’s constantly an ADHD mood, he cares so deeply it hurts, and while my struggles in life have been super different from his, seeing Buck’s journey and working to overcome obstacles is just so relatable!!!!

Favorite episode: Chimney Begins is episode of ALL time.

Hottest take: a minor one but I feel Veronica, the woman Buck and then Albert dated in s4, gets a bad rap. We met her on a disastrous first date and she was absolutely seeing all of Buck’s actions in the harshest way possible, but also we see that episode after having gotten to know him and his heart of gold. We know he isn’t trying to body shame her, but they don’t know each other, so she is going to be wary of this man. And it’s a very human instinct that once you get off on the wrong foot with somebody, little things can start building up - so she misinterprets one comment of his, and starts seeing him in an uncharitable light, and so she assumes the worst of the next comment too. I see people making sweeping judgments about her personality, but we pretty clearly see a difference in Veronica in her later scenes. She’ll heartily agree with Taylor’s comment about not wanting to cater to a man’s ego, but it didn’t have the rude tone that a lot of her comments had in the scene where we first met her. And idk given we have never seen Buck handle a first date without some kind of awkwardness or hiccup, I can sympathize with how she didn’t get the best first impression of him! Buck is sooo easy to warm up to and then endear himself, but it can take a little warming up.

Favorite Lone Star character: Carlos or Paul! It would probably be Paul if the show could GIVE HIM MORE SCREENTIME but since we’ve mainly gotten crumbs over five whole seasons, Carlos is able to stay in the running for LS fave.

Favorite ship: I’ve been bewitched by Bucktommy!!! I’m a huge multishipper and polyshipper but if you make me pick just one…

Most underrated character: hmm so obviously he’s a main and the fandom generally loves him, but I feel Chimney doesn’t get enough appreciation. He gets put in the comic relief box that he may have described for himself, but Hen shut that shit down when he said it because it is not even close to the full picture. Chim is hilarious of course, but he deserves more credit for all the other things he is too! In the show, definitely Karen. Give us more of this rocket scientist, PLEASE!!!

Most underrated ship: Michael and David are sooo underrated! I know we didn’t have them on the show for long enough (thanks, antivax nonsense 🙄) but what we got is such a good love story! Also on Lone Star, more Paul/Carlos or Paul/Carlos/TK, please!!!

One thing you would love to see:

A character driven plot I got my hopes up during the hiatus before s8 was conflict between Hen and Chim, and that first episode really seemed like they might delve into what it looked like for some familial tension! Let our ride or dies fight and have an emotional storyline, and also explore new ground that they haven’t before!!!

And then for thinking of emergencies (since so many of us are here for the soap opera level character plots, but LBR that this show is on the air because of the mass appeal of Angela Bassett and the show that has ridiculous 911 calls like a baby in the pipes!) Something my wife has pointed out when watching with me and I loooove as an idea is how cool to watch a bowling alley fire would be, from a fire science perspective. They can be challenging and dangerous with things like the solvents used to treat the wood, both what’s saturating the floors and bowling lanes but also what might be stored that employees are using still. They’re flammable and also can be toxic, which could then aerosolize. And then the layout of bowling alleys like we saw a little in the show for the woman trapped in the pin machine… those void spaces in the floors and walls and overhead would be trickyyy for airflow feeding the fire and leading to it jumping. She has done so much research into fires and disasters as it’s a special interest of hers so she can and will keep going about what they could be, and I have been FULLY convinced about now really wanting to see this. Such good potential for an eventful call!!!

Desperate Housewives

I started watching it a couple weeks ago finished it in the spring and I love one (1) republican. I am now slowly thrifting all of the seasons on DVD

My mom watched it when it first aired and I never sat down and joined her but I remember catching glimpses. As an adult I knew I would love it before I even started and I was right! It has WOMEN. It’s outrageous. It’s hilarious. It’s addicting. The theme song is glorious!! Almost every episode title is a reference to a Sondheim song!!! It has (mostly) aged surprisingly well. And in general it just reminds me of a time before streaming when TV was…different. Idk how to put it into words but first of all, remember when shows had 20+ episodes per season? Never forget what they took from us.

Glee

IYKYK. Any “old” songs I know I know because of either Glee or Rockband. Jayma Mays was my awakening. It introduced me to Rocky Horror and many other musicals. It got me into media literacy/critique and was the first show that I anticipated every single week and the first show I gave up on before it ended. I could go on for ages but you just had to be there (my tumblr from 2012-2015).

Passions

I watched this with my mom as a little kid and am slowly rewatching now. Soap operas are a staple on her side of the family and Passions is the only one I ever got into, because I was like 4 and there was ✨magic✨. As an adult I’m not even really into fantasy but in this case it works for me bc it’s so balls to the wall insane. I definitely don’t think I could get into it today if it weren’t for the childhood nostalgia. It ran for almost 10 years, which is not long considering some soaps are still kicking after 50 or 60. But at 2,231 episodes it’s a LOT if you’re not used to the slow pacing of the soap opera format. It’s so special to me though. I have cat and baby names picked out bc of characters on this show. AND THE THEME SONG!!

My all time fave. For 10 years I have run the only tumblr blog dedicated to Soap. It’s hilarious and touching and was ahead of its time. Susan Harris is a genius. Fleabag falling in love with a priest? Susan Harris did it first. That lady on Days of Our Lives being possessed? Susan Harris did it first. Who shot JR? Susan Harris did it first. The Golden Girls sitting at a table eating dessert and talking about sex? Susan Harris did that but she also did it BEFORE SHE DID IT. I’ve rewatched this show so many times and there are still scenes that make me laugh out loud. I would die for Jessica Tate. Bury me with the boxset.

That Girl

Just started watching this (in real time, not a year ago) and it’s just so fun!! Marlo Thomas is a cutie. Her wardrobe is unreal. I’ve laughed out loud quite a few times. She has great chemistry with the leading man whose actor’s name I shan’t bother to look up. I feel like I started watching it at the perfect time in my life too.

Trial & Error

Came for Jayma, stayed for everything. Last year I watched Arrested Development for the first time and if you like that show I think you’ll like Trial & Error. Mockumentary style, wacky characters, great running gags. It was gone too soon and I’m still waiting for a season 2 DVD release.

Out of the Box

Here’s a throwback bc who am I if I don’t put a kids show on the list? I loved this show when I was little. It’s so underrated. I showed it to my current babysitting kids when I first started watching them and they love it too :,) Watching it as an adult makes me so emotional idk why. It warms my heart. If I were to ever become a preschool teacher I would make the babies sing the ending song at their graduation and make their parents cryyyy. If you have little guys in your life you should show it to them. It’s on Disney + (eewwww) but there might be episodes on youtube too.

okay after that tag game I can’t help but think about my faves as cats. I need to ramble now.

Giyuu: cute all black cat. Hair on the longish side, but surprisingly easy to care for. He’s an overall chill cat. Maybe a little too chill. Sometimes you really wander what’s going on in his head, he’s been staring at that same spot on the wall for a hour now. Not amused much by toys. Will go crazy for crinkly ones but gets of them quite easily and just paws at it gently instead of flinging it across the room and chasing after it like he was moments ago. Occasionally gets him stuck in places he can’t get himself out of. He was just curious. And now regrets it. Seems almost humanly embarrassed whenever you gotta help him out. He loves sitting on your lap and chest. He’ll knead your chest too. Always wants to be near you and see what you’re doing. He will follow you into the bathroom. NO closed doors in this household. He’ll press his nose against the door and meow so loud and sad until you open it up. His meow quickly turning cute and innocent.

Aki: Little brat tbh LMAO. All black short hair cat. He’s a petty ass cat. He will knock your water off your table if you fed him two minutes late. Loves cuddles though, so clingy. Has a real nice loud and deep purr. Looovvesss scritches on the chin, he does the whole eye squint and pushing his head out to get more. He’ll knead on you too. He don’t care, he wanna use your thigh, even if you didn’t cut his claws yet. He’s finally being affectionate, you gotta smile through the pain. He only wants attention once HE demands it. He’s the cuddliest thing when he approaches you first. But you see him sitting all cute in his tower and want to come up and pet him?? WHACK. He likes to sleep in bed with you every night though. And he INSISTS on sharing your pillow. If it snows where you live, he likes to watch the snowflakes through the window. He’ll walk around in the snow if you put him out there but he’s doing the whole one step *shake foot* one step *shake foot* and that’s about all he’ll do. He’s (slowly) walking back into the house. Jumps on your shoulder and watches you cook.

Kento: one of them fancy spotted ones. I’ll look up the specifies later. Idk what kinds of temperaments those kinds of cats would have. But this is Kento energy now so it don’t matter bc I said so. He’s the most easy going cat anybody would ever own. He’s why the stereotype of cats being “fully independent pets” came from. Barely vocal, he’s a very quiet cat. He’ll only speak once it’s getting close to his feeding time. You always feed him at 6pm?? He’s meowing politely and sitting patiently at his bowl at exactly 5:50 to remind you it’s almost time to feed him and to not be late. Just about as affectionate as Aki. He needs his alone time, and will come to you when he’s craving cuddles again. Has a real deep purr, low and sometimes you either gotta feel him or lean in close to hear his purrs. He always smells so good, he doesn’t really get stinky. He will clean himself after you kiss him lolol. He likes sitting on your lap. He’s also ALWAYS curious about what your cookin. He never wants to eat any of the food you give him to sniff, he simply just wants to sniff and watch lolol.

Shouta: such a sassy cat. Definitely a stray you randomly just came home with one day with no preparation whatsoever. Very very recluses cat. Doesn’t like hugs, doesn’t like being held. Doesn’t like being groomed bc it goes into being man handled. Such a soft little baby once he starts to warm up to you though (which definitely takes a while). Softly nudges your arm with his face, looking at you with big sad eyes bc he wants pets lolol. He never sits on top of you either, he’ll always be touching but never on top. When he does, it’s RARE!!! Maybe once a year. And it will be your chest when you’re sleeping lolol. Snooziest cat, he doesn’t like toys, he almost looks like he finds them ridiculous. Old man in a cats body. WILL make himself comfy. Bought him a bed? Nah, your blanket and pillows are better.

WIP Questionnare (tag game)

Tagged by @buffythevampirelover ^^ using A Chant for Blood to answer these! Answering them all out of boredom, but you can answer as many as you like ^^

What was the first part of your wip that you created? ...the first chapter 😅 but tbf the very first scene has changed drastically since then! it was a bit of a 'main character wakes up' cliche so I decided like right after writing chapter 3 it would be changed after the first draft was done.

If your story was a TV show, what would the theme song/intro be? oo! Possibly Nothing Else Matters by Apocalyptica. Prob my fave one out of the story's playlist.

Who are your favorite characters you've made? Why? Probably the makoth characters, like Gunilde and Oddvar. and idk 🤷 ive had a soft spot for orcish characters lately, makoth included. Can't forget Karliah, too! She's been with me since middle school.

What other pieces of media do you think would share a fanbase for your story? oooh. i dont know. possibly game of thrones? or any gothic fantasy novel. I actually don't read that much victorian fantasy, so I don't know many. However, Snow White and the Huntsman did influence me a lot, so if that movie has a fanbase I suppose it counts.

What has been your biggest struggle while writing? Creating the magic systems. It's like chemistry for me; my brain just can't work it out. the main magic system, which i have just called Spellwork, feels so underdeveloped, but the other magic system for the Makoth, Skvæla, is a little bit more fleshed out. At some point I have to sit down one day and work the whole Spellwork thing out before I lose my mind 🥲

Are there any animals in your story? Talk about them! There is! Maugr are native to Reyoarfell, and only used by the Makoth. Wolf-like beasts the size of polar bears, with thick fur and short legs to combat the cold climate of Reyoarfell. The makoth only use them for travel or to carry/pull heavy things, they are not suited for combat or racing. These animals are important to them, and are not allowed to be owned by anybody outside of the country.

How do your characters get around?(ex: trains, horses, cars, dragons, etc.) Mostly by horseback or carriage, as trains haven't been invented yet. But also, the first book is contained in one city so they don't need anything else to travel long distance. However! Portals to travel between countries do exist, but they're rare and expensive to use.

What part of your wip are you working on? I'm currently editing the early chapters, getting it ready to look for beta readers. Adding more scenery and sensory descriptions, changing a few things about the characters, trying to find a way to make the plot twists less obvious before they're revealed 😅

What aspects (tropes, maybe?) of your wip do you think will draw people in? Hmm. victorian fantasy, knight lady, eldritch being, vampiric lizard man, body horror, corruption arc, and monster hunting are the ones I can thing of off the top of my head 😅

What are your hopes for your wip? That there's people out there that would at least enjoy reading my novel, and love the characters as much as I do :)

1. Are you named after anyone? - No.

2. When was the last time you cried? - I don't remember.

3. Do you have kids? - No.

4. Do you use sarcasm a lot? - Oh yes, maybe too much even.

5. What sports do you play/have you played? - Nothing, I'm really not an athletic person. I had to participate in basketball and volleyball during P.E. back in school, but that was more than a decade ago. I sort of enjoy playing badminton with friends in the summer very occasionally (i'm bad at it tho). I like playing pool (billiard) the most, I can't say I'm particularly good at it, but that's my strongest out of the typical pub sports (pool/snooker/darts/foosball).

6. What’s the first thing you notice about other people? - I tend to check their face, hair and hands, but it can be the way they walk or their voice, it really varies from person to person.

7. Scary movies or happy endings? - I don't like scary movies, but I don't mind an unhappy ending, so it's partially both?

8. Any special talents? - I can draw, duh. I was not aware that I am apparently a decent sharpshooter until I attended some company team building events where we could try multiple weapons and played paintball.

9. Where were you born? - North-East Hungary.

10. What are your hobbies? - Drawing mostly.

11. Do you have any pets? - Nope.

12. All-time fave piece of media? - It's very hard to choose, but I'd say the Ghost in the Shell - Stand Alone Complex anime series maybe.

13. Fave subject in school? - History.

14. Dream job? - I wanted to be a flight attendant for quite a while, but I am too short and I can't swim, so bummer. But I like my current job actually, despite it's very Corporate™ nature (I am an internal auditor and a risk management consultant at a Big4).
