well dstiel obviously though i do understand why people like it so much. it's because they're stupid.

aside from that.. oh wait this one is so random and no hate whatsoever (in fact only love) to people who like it but i don't really like transmasc dean in a canon setting. as an au it's incredibly interesting but i see it as occupying similar space to a cis girl dean au in a way where it definitely is..... an AU. in canon like. yeah no. that's NOT a trans guy im sorry. trans guys can be annoying dont get me wrong. but you'd have to be VERY special to be annoying the way he is. also he wouldnt transition for ages cause hes dean winchester and he likes to conform to and in fact play up his expected role. so he certainly wouldve not transitioned in the canon when we see him.

i dont feel this way at all about transmasc sam however. he'd be the same pretty much. as would transfem sam who we all know i adore. anyway i'll probably change my mind in a week and get obsessed with transmasc dean and post 20 times in a row about it and you are all allowed to pelt me with rocks.

21. part of canon you think is overhyped

this was surprisingly hard. in the interest of being interesting and not just going for 'destiel' or something, i'm actually going to say kripke era. it IS my favourite era!! its objectively the best in terms of writing, atmosphere, plot, characterisation. like no contest, obviously. in fact when i recommend the show to people i tell them just to watch the first 5 seasons (while planning on baiting them into continuing after swan song by going 'but its suchhh a bad ending for sam :(( dont you want to see what happens next.....').

so i use 'overhyped' very loosely to mean that despite me recognising it as objectively superior to the rest of the show, i don't actually hugely enjoy a lot of it that much more than i enjoy later on? a lot of my favourite parts of supernatural are heavily built on in the later seasons, or even introduced then. sam & lucifer's cage dynamic and everything resulting from it. the gadreel violation and in fact most of sam's..... everything. ofc this is all present in kripke and it's explored much Better and thematically and gothically and its just more atmospheric and intentional-seeming. whereas late seasons is kind of like this hodge-podge by different writers where you get these insane and intentional gems amid a bunch of white noise. but i just.... im a late seasons kind of person!! i loved buffy s6!! i enjoy works jumping the shark and i enjoy what art becomes when it already has so much to build on. shrug emoji.

like. ok. what first made me compulsively obsessive over supernatural (after the dean daddy issues, which i HAVE to admit hooked me........this is why im the ultimate critique of deangirls, because i was one for 3 seasons <3) was sam & azazel, the metaphor & violation present in his whole demon blood storyline. obvi this is kripke era. and i have to give kripke era credit for it. but a lot of what i consider fundamental to sam & this theme of uncleanliness especially in regards to assault and violation in some way is just soo built on post kripke. his cage trauma in s7. 8x21's "i'm not clean" speech. every compounding incident that happens to sam and his body, from gadreel possession to chuck in s15................

BASICALLY this is to say not that kripke era is really overrated but that so much credit is given to it at the expense of late seasons, when the domestic horror, cycle-of-abuse-sitcom, gabriel's tv show style thing it becomes is actually such a huge part of my enjoyment of spn. and wow i never thought i would be saying this. but i watched riverdale so idk what i was expecting. sigh. but really. what other show is giving us toxic polycule made up of brothers and an Angel of God coparenting the devil's child... also the devil happens to be brother #1's (sam is brother #1) abusive ex.... and hes currently fighting the polycule for custody rights. also the kid was born last week and hes 15. like sorry this is so fundamental to my supernatural. i could never rewatch and stop at s5. i rewatch late seasons eps all the time. okay so hi i just wanna put this out here. i joined the fandom mid 2022 and fell in love with dean. i dont really ship him w anyone in canon but i do love some destiel fanfics, i read a lot of em. tho i read dean x reader fics more. i dunno why i wrote this anyway but uhh well i need some help. i actually kinda prefer dean topping when im reading destiel fics or a dean x omc fics because i personally think that him bottoming is a little out of character, which is fine if u disagree ig its just me i dunno. well idk but i think ive ran out of bottom!cas x top!dean fics to read on ao3 so im asking for help. i already got a lot of hate from twitter because of this preference but umm well be kind pls im so bad at this😭

i completely understand why u don't want ppl to make kaia content and will not be doing so. but i'm wondering what the difference is between kaia and the other racist stereotypes on the show? most of the people of color are treated terribly by the narrative and given problematic elements. should ppl not write them either?

hi!! okay 😭 i feel like this is kinda . a complex and nuanced question to tackle . i'm going to try my best to answer this to my best of abilities sorry if it ends up not making sense 😭 (and it might be really wrong)

first i want to preface this first as i am not north american indigenous. i am south american indigenous (more specifically k'iche) so when i wrote the kaia post i made sure to clarify it because there are some aspects of kaia's character that i am not informed enough about. (like specifically dreamwalking i understand the cultural significance but its not something im well informed in as a south anerican native)

so, i wasn't actually the first person to speak out about kaia. it was a north american indigenous person who got a lot of hate for it. because they were able to i guess necessary "spot" the racist stereotypes more as it relates to them if that makes sense?

like dark place kaia never really sat. well with me and i wasn't entirely able to pinpoint it but after their post i realized why because she was. really playing into the "savage" indigenous person stereotype. like with that spear :/ now this is something i guess im able to like . grasp as it relates to my own experiences and growing up hearing about how white people talk about the "savage mayan people who are cannibals and eat hearts" bullshit.

(i promise ill make sense soon 😭) so like. idk i like try to be attuned to racist stereotypical characters i guess. like characters like kaia whose just totally built on racist stereotypes that if u take them away she's basically someone else. i just like i havent necessarily seen other bloggers of color speak out against certain supernatural characters and call for people to not make content if i make sense. like for example, i know some of my asians friends speak out against dean's "busty asian beauties" racist fetish. i would never create content that includes it because its not my place to even touch that. (and sadly theres a lot of non-asian creators who include busty asian beauties in their fics)

but, like if im making any sense if a black blogger were to speak out and say "hey please dont make content of this character because of the hurtful racial stereotypes" (or just any blogger of color for their specific culture) i would listen . (also like if there r posts abt any characters like that out there i loved for it to be sent my way)

sorry this is becoming really long 😭 but essentially its like. im south american indigenous i really feel i cant speak for like other characters of color in spn because like . i dont feel its my place to deem what is hurtful for other people of color. i just know kaia is a hurtful character and i don't want to see her content by white creators. if that makes sense?

but yeah i'm also latino and like the only latinos i can think about in supernatural canon are i believe the brazilian characters from the "fat spa" epsiode and i believe a creator already spoke out about why they're problematic. and i doubt anyone really makes content abt them. but also cesar cuevas who i love because hello! gay latino (points at myself) but i haven't watched the episode in a while so he might be problematic too 😔 like there's a severe lack of latine characters but i don't find cesar to be racist (as of now) so i wouldn't say fans don't write this character ya know?

its very hard to get my thoughts together on this one. super sorry i just find it very complex to answer. another part of why i'm like don't make kaia content i feel is like . take victor for example, correct me if i'm wrong but he's not built off of racist stereotypes. but supernatural chose to kill him off. like they killed off the few black representation on the show which is racist in itself. so of course it's like a circumstance where racism happened but its not because of the character vs kaia who is built off of racist stereotypes. of course supernatural also like attempted to kill her off so double whammy. (but shes not even good representation in the first place) does this make sense? 😅 i hope it does fhjfjf

also, i just reread question noticed the part about other racist stereotypes but like. yeah if a person of color from a different culture then mine calls for a certain character to not have content be made of them like i said, i will not continue doing so! but also i just only interact with like . castiel content at this point 😭 and i feel like at least in kaia's case since she's apart of a wlw ship shes more often than not involved in a lot of content compared to other characters who might be racist stereotypes? like i just see more of her content because well. fans are more focused on destiel sometimes

Happiest oof...hmm Soul Meets Body  where Bucky and Steve get reunited after Bucky gets trapped in the soul stone and they retire? Or the gallavich one where Ian wakes up and Mickey never got arrested (post s5) and they're good.

I have a lot more but those are usually just fluff oneshots not a whole story

I think I've only technically done one. It was where Mickey gets attacked by a Djinn and basically ends up seeing the mickey version of what Dean saw in the Supernatural episode "What is and What Should Never Be". If I recall Sam and Dean saved him.

Oh yes. Usually they didn't like where I went with it. (even though i'd make it obvious). Accuse me of not knowing the characters. And that one person that got mad me and @bellafarella made lip too "likeable" ?? weirdos. Always had issues with the shameless fandom with giving nasty comments tbh.

Grammar. Commas confuse me and dont get me started on ;. Passive voice or active voice (apparently) , repeating words too often. I need to get good at description again and better word choice.

It depends. As long as it's in character and the correct way for it to be typed. Otherwise I'd put "says in ___ " or what not

I've never seen The Boys - can you expand on what you mean?

I mean I think first of all, one (hopefully) just becomes a better creator over time. which is most of it. also, the boys is an adapted work, so everything is basically already laid out for him, which obviously makes the whole situation of plotting out a season neater. that’s WHY the boys is a more successful project than spn. as for the HOW idk it’s harder to pinpoint. I think I noticed two main things. one, there’s not a lot of room for interpretation as a result of sloppiness in the boys. what I mean by this is everything in the production is tight enough that there’s no continuity problems which lead to bigger questions the show didn’t intend to ask. as exemplified by dean having no female romantic interest for like 5 years or whatever until they had written themselves into a corner with it. every plot knows where it’s going and knows what it wants to be and how to execute it. nothing really slips through that stuck out to me. it’s not genius tv but it’s perfectly passable. 

the second thing rly is like. the fact that this dude creates characters like he’s playing with GI joes. and he didn’t create the characters in the boys, he just translated them. so mr America I genuinely just forgot his name, mr America is like, sociopath mommy issues. and everything about him reflects that. there’s room for questions WITHIN that (is he capable of love, was he truly hurt by x y or z event) but the question is never one of IF HE IS THAT THING AT ALL. does that make sense. he never wears a ring that, say, looks like his mother’s wedding ring, raising a lot of questions about how he’s really positioned in his family. this is never an issue the writers accidentally create on the boys. you never ask if there’s some second, hidden mr America that the narrative isn’t aware of. because his character is very solidly what it is. 

again I think w dean specifically, I wanna define success and failure real quick as I'm using these words. success is when you make the thing you wanted to make. failure is when you do not make the thing you wanted to make. in this way, dean is probably, honestly, Kripke’s BIGGEST fucking failure. and it’s because he tried to pack too many things INTO dean, which I've talked about before. has to be all these deeply performative things and so instead of multiplicity making those things seem realer, it makes them seem much faker. mr America simply is LESS THINGS than dean. he’s more confined and therefore more DEfined. but dean is a mom and a dad and a brother and a slut and empty and full and he hates himself and he’s angry and he’s kind and he’s insecure and he’s secure and and and. you see. but mr America is quite simply a narcissist who has real feelings sometimes. 

in this way, the characters on the boys? successful. far less interesting. but far more successful 

this is my last thing and I dont have a thesis or anything, but billy bones or whatever his name is, Karl urban, and the weedy guy. their dynamic is very plainly EXACTLY what Kripke INTENDED for dean and cas. it is absolutely insane to watch dean and cas -- the failed version of this buddy cop dynamic in his other work -- after seeing the version he wanted become realized later in his career. absolutely insane. dark mirror shit

you swear that your reddening cheeks are threatening to fall off any moment now from all the fake smiling. the hundreds of superficial compliments, the insincere flattery and the need for these people to constantly compare you to your godforsaken sister makes you feel even weaker than you are. it gets harder and harder to keep up with a big persona that isn’t at all you. as lucky as you are to live such a lavish lifestyle, you can’t help but hate how your family has to be so perfect. you hate how you have never fit in with them, even if you are so good at faking it. you hate how you have always been stuck in your sister’s shadow, constantly haunted with the reminder that you yourself aren’t good enough. you hate how you now have to entertain the rich and brainless guests at your parent’s gala because she’s gone for some stupid prodigy competition and everyone is only talking about her in front of your face. so what if she’s better the better sister? you still have the right to earn respect, right?

you’re exhausted from all the small talk. your facade gets more brittle by the second under all the pressure. your body feels as if it's gonna give out due to your brain shutting down after all that interacting. you try to keep on going with the night as it unravels itself by being the perfectly poised poster child, trying to make your parents proud. but alive yet almost completely devoid, you decide enough was enough. what if you left right now? no one would notice, would they?

after pulling up your phone discreetly to send a few text messages, you pass through lots of people dressed in gold and finery in a way that wouldn’t have you noticed right away. keep your head down and don’t you dare make eye contact with anyone. nearing the end of the room, grabbing the first glass of whatever alcohol you see and downing it in one gulp, you start walking away as quickly as possible from the ballroom. “ignorant privileged fucks,” you angrily whisper to no one in particular, setting the now empty glass on whatever surface and begin to head to the main exit where no one could spot you running away.

“and what do you think you’re doing here, miss?”

a voice interrupts you, looking up you see that it is your father’s head butler; johnny. he is dressed in a simple black suit that makes him appear taller than he is. his long brown hair is slicked back and his bowtie seems brand new. you have known the man since he started working in your household less than ten years back. you were a reckless child, often trying to find ways to sneak out, finding a way to escape from this life and he sympathized with you. after all, he could barely imagine living your life, never catching a break for yourself and always pretending to be someone you weren’t. he often helped planning when you would sneak out into the night, scheduling things like what time you should leave and what time you should be back, more specifically a time when no one would notice. he would take care of your form of transportation and have your location on at all times, just to be extra safe. as much as he wants you to have fun and have a bit of freedom, he still worries that something might happen to you. because of all this, you two have grown to have a very strong bond. you could confidently say that he is most definitely a parental figure in your life since your parents (and even your sister) are often overseas for work.

“what do you think i’m doing? you think i wanna be in a room with those half-baked bipeds? fuck no!”

“i know, i was just joking. you looked like you were about to explode in there, i wish i could help.” he laughs, pulling out his phone preparing what you might need. “so what will it be for today? the driver? we just need to pay him to keep his mouth shut. a taxi? it’s cheaper than paying the driver, but you still need to pay… not like that’s a problem for you though. maybe an uber would be good enough—“

“actually, i got myself covered. thanks.”

his jaw slightly drops and his eyebrows furrow. he looks straight at you in shock. “what do you mean you got yourself covered?”

you look down at your feet, a nervous habit. “i got myself a ride, you don’t need to help me. i’ll be back as soon as dawn comes.”

he raises his eyebrow. “who’s your ride?”

“doesn’t matter,” you glance down at your phone seeing a notification and wave a goodbye, leaving rather suddenly. “i gotta go, i’ll text you when you need to open the gates!”

“y/n! wait! who’s your ride— and she’s gone.” johnny sighs, watching as you run towards the front gates, tossing your stiletto heels away on the grass while you’re at it. he heads back inside, silently hoping you’ll be fine.

knocking the window of the old black mustang parked outside behind the big bushes, the driver rolls down his window and sends the most charming smile.

yuta in his black beanie, long blonde hair, worn out doc martens, signature leather jacket and black skinny jeans. it almost makes you laugh on how he wears the same thing almost everyday but still manages to look so good.

he is most notable for having a big bad boy reputation and you knew that he was the breath of fresh air you needed in your life. a person who can understand having the pressure of having to be or to fulfill your persona. a person you can completely be yourself around. a person who is full of warmth no matter how cold he may seem on the outside.

“get in, princess.”

and that was all you needed. you tiredly walked to the other door and sat yourself in the car. rolling his window back up, he looks at you. you are wearing a simple yet stunning black dress along with silver jewelry adorned on your neck and wrists. your makeup is perfectly done but still struggles to hide the fog in your eyes. he has the sudden urge to clear them away. he softens at the sight of you. no one is perfect, but he finds you being perfect enough without ever having to dress up.

“where to?” he asks as gently as he could. he knows that you are most vulnerable during these moments and that it is hard to finally break down your walls after a day full of stress, so he doesn’t pry immediately. all he wants to do is to keep you here, safe and away from your burdens and for you to stay comfortable with him, even if it couldn't be for long. but is that too selfish of him to ask? he hates how you hate your life and it is taking every bone in his body to not run away with you. but who is he to tell you what to do or what to change anyway? all he can do for now is try to find a way to make you genuinely smile.

“take me anywhere,” you whisper to the latter. “i just want to be as far from myself and my life as possible. miles away or the nearest convenience store, just take the long way home before dawn.”

you look down at the cup holders, spotting an open cigarette box. you tug one out of the nineteen and light it with the lighter you kept in your pocket. you lean back and close your eyes. he only admires as you bring the cigarette to your lips, exhaling a cloud of smoke afterwards. letting the radio play quietly, he starts the car and begins to drive away from the mansion. he can’t help but wonder how you (an elegant daughter) and him (a bad boy) are millions of worlds apart, but more similar than you think.

really like how much a complete kingdom posting you do-it's probably one of my favorite fics i've discovered since entering back into the fandom after leaving it in 2013 (the other being the down to agincourt series). what are your other favorite fics? i won't ask least favorite since that's considered rude lol but least favorite tropes/characterizations i think would be fair.

i dont have any deep cuts im very much a normie fic reader! i work off of rec lists or for minor characters i bravely slog the tag myself. ack is a huge outlier for me as it's. long. usually i dont read anything over 20k. my bookmarks are here, it's a lot of anna one shots lmao. here's my fic shortlist!

bron-yr-au - so so good and so so sweet. perfectly nails the stiltedness and love of dean + jack.

vocation - i loveeee this one i think it's such an interesting angle to work from to have dean and hannah keeping up Secret Correspondence because hannah's like i'm new at this taking care of cas thing and also this earth thing. Help.

mourner's kadish - WAH. someone wrote this based off a post of mine and it's . WAH. dean taking baby jack with him while he looks for a place to spread cas's ashes.

like a finger bending to its own palm - banes. natural, even. the fic field for max and alicia is so bleak and sasha is SUCH a bright shining light of care and exactly what i want from banesnatural.

re: least favorites i cant read normal aus at aaaaaaaall. i think there's absolutely no way to do castiel the angel justice if he's like. a theology major. this is a pretty general peeve but i also hate it when someone gives characters Labels 101 and i do hate it for dean. ummmm i have yet to find a fic that deals with john in a way i like. most frequent clicks away from a fic for me are bc i think dean is too. idk. too something. or because cas is less cas and more dean's character development wrapped up in a bow. i WILL read fics where cas is dean's character development wrapped in a bow but i'd still like him to be well characterized. lol
