The way some of yall mischaracterize Ratio as being stoic in chill when in reality he is 24/7 resisting the urge to rip everyone around him a new one is crazy to me like. He cares so much, so much. It’s unhealthy, he loses the idgaf war every time because Ratio is the least nonchalant person ever like

He was this close to breaking character and throttling Sunday like you cannot tell me he wasn’t planning a murder in this scene. Ratio straight up calls Sunday a crazy bitch but everyone brushed it aside 😭

Genuinely, Aventurine is way better at concealing his true feelings that Ratio. Ratio may be acting for the sake of the plan but the way he truly feels about anything he’s doing always seeps through, it’s why he apologizes to Aventurine in 2.0 in their staged argument scene. It’s why he is as mean to Sunday as he can be. It’s why him pretending that he “hates” Aventurine makes him act so silly. Ratio can’t fully commit to the bit, he can’t force himself to not care or to be someone he isn’t, because fundamentally Ratio CARES and that is something he is incapable of hiding, alabaster bust or not.

The problem is that him expressing his care is often done in a rude and/or blunt manner which people tend to interpret as stoicism or apathy when it’s anything but. Ratio’s vial that he gives to Aventurine is short, sweet and gets straight to the point, because that’s the easiest way for Ratio to express his emotions, even if it’s often detrimental for him and anyone else around him. However Aventurine understands him quite well, and knows that although brief, Ratio telling him to “stay alive, survive this and keep on living” is how he truly feels towards Aventurine, and that’s enough to keep him going.

Underneath Ratios carefully crafted marble facade is a man who cares so much and is so bad at expressing it and I wish the community in general, especially Aventio shippers would acknowledge that more. Ratios true moments of sincerity are brief, but they are anything but stoic. Let the man be soft, it’s in character.

“what are you thinking about?”

fingertips gently skim over his back, rippling over his broad back like a wave. miguel’s facing away from you, arms underneath his pillow. marks which were personally imprinted by you scatter across his back, bright red and sore. you feel the urge to kiss them better.

“hmm?” you pause your movements, just for a second.

“what’re you thinking about?” his voice is soft, a small sprinkle of raspiness in his tone. he’s not really awake yet.

‘you’ was your first response but you choke on your words swallowing them down. you want to take a picture of him right now; wanting to imprint this view of him in your mind forever.

“nothing.”

Miguel hold back a snort. it’s a shame that you can’t see the way that his lips tilt upwards. he knows you’re lying.

“that frown on your face doesn’t make it seem like it’s nothing.”

you roll your eyes, but you can’t really be mad at Miguel for knowing you so well.

“I mean that it’s not important.” you state, fingertips brushing against his skin. you decide to kiss his marks better after all; you don’t know if you’ll get another chance like this.

just as you shift to place kisses on his back, Miguel continues to interrogate you.

“everything that you think about or say is important to me.”

“Everything?” you repeat, hovering over a particular red scratch on his back.

“Everything, hermosa.”

he wasn’t lying. he’d spend the whole of eternity listening to you and your voice, no matter the topic or whether he’s heard your story a million times.

out of everything, your voice is the only thing that could soothe him — like a personal lullaby.

“well, I’m glad you think that baby.” the corners of your lips flip up into a sweet smile. your lips brush against the scars which you’ve missed. “they don’t hurt do they?”

miguel hums, “no, they don’t.”

“I should try and hold back — “ you begin, thinking to get some cream to heal the scratches. “they look like they hurt.”

Instantly, a large hand comes to wrap against your thigh. “I told you already, they don’t hurt.”

your face burns and you attempt to hide away, lying on top of miguel. you feel his body vibrate as he laughs, his voice filling up the room.

“are you sure?” you mumble the words into his skin.

“I’ve never been more sure of anything in my life.”

Sae Niijima is such a good character it drives me insane a little. She's not a mother nor a maternal or doting older sister but instead a twenty four year old who was thrown into a position of responsibility that she never asked for. She loves Makoto just as much as she resents her and its so apparent every time they talk up until November. "Are you studying?" (I want you to do well) (I need you to get a job and stop making my life harder) "I'll use any method necessary to get this promotion" (Life will be easier for us) (So stop distracting me with your problems) "Focus on your future" (I know that you're capable) (I can't afford to waste my time on you, so stop wasting time on others)

Makoto is not only the sole reason she pushes as hard as she does for a promotion, for success, and the reason that she loses herself in her animosity over her fathers death, but also someone she can't stand for so long. Makoto was 14-15 when their father died. Sae was 21. As soon as she got the career she wanted and things started to look up, her stability was robbed from her and she was disillusioned with the system that her father had taught her to rely on and completely adhere to. How do you manage, the daughter of a cop, following his footsteps towards law enforcement, when you're suddenly reminded of how unfair it is? You can't quit, your little sister relies on you and she's so young and struggling just as badly with this grief. So you pick yourself up and you get moving again. You push harder, press further. You abandon your morals and your ethics because punishing criminals (guilty or not) is almost like punishing the man who killed your father.

And the whole time she's fighting for promotions, going for drinks with the SIU Director to make herself more favourable for promotions, trying to navigate being a woman in a competitive, suffocating, male-dominated field, falling behind despite doing so much where others are promoted for doing so little - all the while your little sister comes back from school and her biggest issues are so small compared to yours.

Persona 5 revolves so heavily around grief and loss and change and Sae embodies all of that so well, all of the sharp and unpleasant and jagged parts of grief.
