The darker you are, the more pronounced the fear surrounding you becomes, but it is also amplified by how masculine or feminine your gender expression is. I don't quite agree that "projected hypermasculinity" is the only cause of this.

for many poc, they are often in the cross hairs of white-enforced gender binaries. Many people in positions of power [even other poc] will use gender as a violent means to police us, often seeking to turn our own expression of gender against us.

you ever notice how in turning our gender expressions against us, there might be a pattern of projecting violence and aggression (traditionally masculine traits often praised in non-black people), that isnt actually there? in addition, there are other addendums people tack onto their anti-blackness that completely cause this logic to fall apart when applied. Namely, adultification! black people, black children get adultified by white society.

We are assumed to be older & more independent, and thus less in need of the safety, care, sensitivity, accommodation one would give to a child, and this results in violence and neglect. it is directly observable in the way black children are more likely to get detention, suspended or expelled for the same behaviour as their white peers, s/a rates for black youth, and the arguments that 40 y/o cops give for brutalising & murdering black 20, 16, 12, 8 year olds who so much as breathe in their line of sight.

Given this then, following the misandry logic, we can say being recognised as older or as an adult is a form of oppression.

and black kids are evidently, not adults or people who act like adults. they dont mature faster. black 18 y/os will also face the problem of adultification to justify violence against them. black maturity is not a true and then demonised observation about black existence. the form of oppression is racism, and adultification is the deployed means of enacting racism.

the means of combatting the adultification of black people would not come in creating adult positivity or "advocating" for adults or telling children not to fear adults. it comes in the form of learning about anti-blackness, unlearning anti-blackness, and actually directly combatting anti-blackness.

similarly the means of combatting the hyper-masculinisation of black people comes in the form of learning about anti-blackness, unlearning anti-blackness, and actually directly combatting anti-blackness.

Racism explains both of this phenomena far better than "misandry" ever could.

ok. ok ok okok.

As a warning, I'm going to get really weird and personal here.

I got these this morning. Just like with the last one I have no idea what to do with this or how to appropriately deal with it lmao but to everyone who has been so nice - thank you. so much? this is a number so unfathomable to me that I've been trying to sit with it all day and simply cannot process it as real.

I don't want to care about numbers. I want to be super cool and chill and above that. but this is a really big one. and I think it also is really reflective of how big this community has grown. I've decided it would be odd not to acknowledge it.

This is one of the craziest, kindest, most lovely things that has ever happened to me. It feels so incredible and validating to know my work reached some people. That is quite literally all I want to do with my life. And now it feels like I might be able to with my own stuff. But its a lil deeper than that too. All the comments and support have genuinely been such an amazing balm during a really dark time in my life.

At the start, this fic was always a method of escapism for me. I've been under so much pressure in my real life. I'm in a really weird, really competitive transitional point. everything I write irl may make or break the rest of my career. It is a type of pressure I'm incredibly grateful and privileged to have, but still stressful nonetheless.

But then, as i was writing this fic, it became way more of a lifeline. Not to get too personal, and idk if people paid attention to my end notes, but if you did you'll note I fell victim to the ao3 curse last October in a really big way. I lost a dear friend of mine very suddenly.

Starting coming home was a way for me to write something just to write it, knowing that I could be myself and do whatever I want and just throw shit at the wall without worrying about anything. after my friend passed away, the escapism of it became that much more valuable. (btw I would not post about it were I not in a much better place with it so don't worry about me <3)

I feel like maybe it's important at this point to explain the meaning of all the support because I've genuinely been unable to express it in a way I find appropriate. every piece of art every sweet comment etc. etc. helped get me through this really weird, sad, shocking time. As "cringe" as it might seem... fandom and fanfic can be really meaningful, powerful, and connective.

All this being said. coming home was definitely released in the right time for this to happen. A multichapter released right before and during season 2 as well as in the months after? Like. It was primed for this a bit (not intentionally but still) So many fics that get posted now deserve the same amount of love and support.

I really hesitate with numbers. sharing them, abiding by them, gaining value from them. I also get nervous about how people will feel entitled to treat me because of them. But this is so insane it feels weird not to say a bigger thank you.

Not really a request but more of a headcanon I have

I don't think Iron Fist is an amazing cook or anything, I actually think he'd be kind of bad at following a lot of recipes. (Maybe I'm projecting my ADHD onto him with that oneee) But he also gives me the vibes that he'd make a mean soup from scratch, like that shit would instantly cure the common cold with just a sip type of soup? Idk why. He gives me such worrysome grandma energy. At least when I imagine his s/o is sick.

I definitely agree with all of that! As much as I love Iron Fist, he does not give off master chef vibes 😔 You might think that if you try to cook with him, things will go a little better, but you'd unfortunately be wrong. You might be trying to teach him a specific cooking technique but no matter how good of a teacher you are Lin is better at distracting the both of you. Trying to cut up the vegetables? Lin is wrapping his arms around your waist, hugging you from behind while you're trying to work. The longer you try to ignore him, the more intense the kisses against you neck get. Just waiting for the water to boil now? Well, while you've got some down time Lin is going in for another kiss, and another and - oh shit, the water is boiling over!

Lin's easy distractability in the kitchen does change if you're sick though. He remembers how when he was sick as a child his family had a recipe for a warm, hearty soup that always made him feel better. It sounds like a perfect way to help relive some of your symptoms, but he doesn't have the recipe. Well, he needs to buy the ingredients first anyways so maybe seeing all the vegetables in the store will jog his memory. He remembers something orange being in the soup, but was it carrots or sweet potato? Is there even that much a of difference anyways? (yes Lin, there is. please don't let this man do your cooking or shopping) As Lin stands in the market, an older woman doing her own shopping notices how lost the poor man looks and asks if he needs some help. Lin explains his desperate situation to this woman who smiles, commenting on how lucky his partner must be, and she offers up the instructions to her own family soup. Lin does his best to commit her every word to his memory, then he earnestly thanks her and hurries off to get all of his supplies and get back home to you. Once he's back in the kitchen, he's absolutely locked in. You're sick so there's no room for fooling around. With the instructions from the older woman and the memories of his own family's cooking Lin ends up with a soup that he's actually very proud of! He puts some of the soup into a bowl and carefully walks it into the room you're resting in, announcing that he's made you something to eat. Of course you're grateful that Lin took the time to make you something, but you can't help the involuntary flashbacks to all of the kitchen disasters you've experienced with Lin. As you take your first taste of the soup, again, you can't help the look of surprise at how good the soup really is. Lin smiles and takes fake offense to this, how could you ever doubt him like this?

bad shows and mediocre shows and boring shows are necessary for the artistic process. the truth is that sometimes Jojo Tichakorn will make a boring show. bless Never Let Me Go but I don't remember a single thing about that show other than Pond and Phuwin sat on the beach soulfully looking out at the sea in sepia adjacent coloring. But that was simply his artistic impulse. there's no THK without only friends without NLMG. And in that VERY same interview from TWO years ago Jojo revealed that Ninew originally wanted Only Friends to be set in an acting class while Jojo pushed it to Business. and now??? Ninew gets to direct Only Friends: Dream On. HIS vision of only friends. It's mind boggling, for a queer person to live such a sweet life, training under a mentor, working towards and achieving their dreams I just dgaf if it's horrible I love OF: Dream On with all my being already.

I don't know if P'Golf will ever construct a story where they don't pretend that the villain is not the villain? I'm not surprised that Nuchy is the one directing Burnout Syndrome, a three-way entanglement with gun atthaphan as the centerpoint. The exclusion of GramBlack, outside of its social reactions and implications, was a significant failing of her narrative. Gram was in fact in love with Black, that's what how it was in the original story from which Not Me was adapted and that's how it was in the show. To change who a character is in love with is changing the whole character which she simply hadn't done but she compromised her art against social pressures and like I don't have proof but im not surprised that the keys to Gun's Off Jumpol chastity belt was handed to Nuchy.

Jojo is only 40 years old that's a baby in artist years. I think one of the most incredible things about gmmtvs artistic direction *is* their dedication towards the commonplace the steady the familiar. Not only do they make boring gay shows (in addition to the exciting and interesting imo) but they do it consistently every single year. Every single year they make terrible shows and boring shows; shows you can put on in the background and promptly fall asleep during shows that I consistently forget exists or even aired (in addition to the great!).

I have a wild theory for the future books. I believe Azriel is Elain’s true mate, however the mating bond between the 3 bat boys and the 3 Acheron sisters would mean they hold too much power, and since we know the Cauldron is corrupt, decided to give Elain to Lucien in a fake mating bond to avoid having the 3x3 mating because they will be too powerful.

We all know the Koschei prophecy and Mor’s paining, Elain and Azriel are end game, but it makes me question why Lucien and Elain developed a mating bond and why Azriel can smell it.

I think you're absolutely right on the money anon. It makes sense narratively, especially why Koschei tried to so hard to go for Cassian and Nesta too before they accepted the bond while Elain and Azriel were stalled by Lucien.

We know the Cauldron is confirmed corrupted and I don't think it's a stretch to say that Koschei might of had a hand in that working with Daglan since he is an Old God, Death God, powerful wizard. (We honestly just don't know enough about him or the Death Gods in general.)

I def think that Azriel and Elain are true mates. It really wouldn't matter to me if they were or not but I think there's just too much evidence for it to be ignored. The "only a mate can know what's wrong" and Azriel figuring it out, Azriel ready to die/burn down everything to save Elain from Hybern, Azriel being able to smell the bond when he shouldn't be able to, not to mention staying away from Elain physically effects him--he's drawn to her, he's protective, all classic mate behavior and hints.

And there's definitely something SJM is cooking with the power of 3. It's a purposeful pattern woven into ACOTAR and is brought up more than once and with SJM's Jewish background, 3 is a significant and powerful number.

Along with Mor's painting and this post by @bright-side20 I think illuminates it nicely that the 3 Bat Boys and 3 Archeron sisters are destined for each other.

It's also plays nicely with the story of Koschei and the Deathless which SJM has stated she's drawn inspiration from.

In this case Ivan would be Lucien and Marya Morevna would be Vassa. It all ties in neatly with how SJM plays fast and loose with fairy tales as her inspiration.

Idk, to me this all seems pretty clear and obvious and I feel like a lot of readers and especially Elriels have picked up on how the story is generally gonna go. We might not know every single detail but we have a good grasp on a broad speculation, which you should be able to do if an author has done their job right imo.

But who knows, maybe we are just a biased hivemind since Elriels do tend to all come to the same conclusion.

Good Evening amazing fandom :) This was very light Chenford wise. And I'm ok with that when the main SL is really solid like last week was. Now Nyla's stuff was good. That new serial killer made my skin crawl. Could go without FBI guys being involved but get why they are. Mainly a Bailey/Balian heavy ep. Which I knew we'd have at some point given the finale.

I mean that with zero offense to anyone who loves her character or this ship. You should have eps around your favs. It's an ensemble cast after all. How it should be. They are just not my cup of tea is all. So this impressions will be shorter than usual due to that. Looks like next week will more than make up for that. Let us dive into what we did get shall we?

7x05 Till Death

This was a really smart move on Lucy's part. Going to his high school counselor. No better place to get the truth on this kid than her. She’ll have good insight. Like Tim said last week, Lucy isn't satisfied with the answer she got. This is proof of that heh I love her for it. We all know our girl isn't one to quit. Tim's answer last week did little to assuage her worry. So here we are at Ridley's H.S.

This scene explains that outfit now too. I remember people thought her being a detective was the reason. When her tik-tok came out with it the buzz about that was unreal haha But sadly tis not the case. Not disappointed with her being a T.O. at all though. Just remember the excited theorizing about it. We had nothing to go off of. So we dined on the crumbs we got for months LOL

Lucy making Seth cough up all his BS is fantastic. That’s my girl. I absolutely loved that she didn’t let him get away with it, not even for a second. She not only forced him to admit he lied, but also made him reveal the real truth behind it. I wanted to sucker punch him as he spoke. So many lies. Holy shit. They just compound when you do that my man. His reasoning is crap like I expected it to be.

That he uses half truths to get out of trouble. That's not great reasoning to explain what you've done.... It's pretty awful reasoning tbh. Also the thing is he’s lied so much now I can’t even trust that's even true. Idk how Lucy can. It's written all over her face how over his bullshit she is. Said this before she's a ten but real bad at hiding her feelings.

She is wearing them all over her sleeve this entire scene. No way he didn't sense her annoyance. Or how very done she is with him and his excuses. I mean I don't blame her. How can she train this kid without ever trusting what comes out of his mouth? Literally could lie at any given moment. Really dug himself a hole. Lucy looks so frustrated and upset. I hate this. Oh my Timothy, that’s quite the description of what a relationship is my love. It's almost like he has first hand experience what a healthy relationship looks like... We all know that's what he had with Lucy till he destroyed it. *sigh* He’s just a grumpasaurus cause he’s post-Lucy. He lost his constant sunshine person that made him softer.

It was self inflicted as we all know. That doesn't meant it isn't still having lasting ramifications for him due to it. Also he had a bad experience with that whole thing. So the rant makes sense and is warranted. Luna even explains why Tim is that way. I do adore her. Always sunshine and light with her kindness towards Miles. Twas nice to see.

Lucy coming to find her person always makes me happy. Suspicions confirmed. So naturally she must go find hubby. I love his ‘Uh oh.’ When she closes the door. Lucy spewing all she has on Seth to him. Expecting him to to be just as outraged as she is. Disappointed when he isn’t more upset along with her. His logic is sound though. Even if they wanted to boot him it wouldn't be a easy sell with Grey.

A man who is SO stressed about the budget and their perception to the public atm. So I get what Tim is aiming at. Doesn't make it less crappy to deal with though. I have been there in my last job. Where morally I didn’t want to keep someone. But we were so understaffed they let them stay for just that reason. Even when I objected. I hated it sfm. Every fiber of my being loathed mentoring someone who didn't deserve to be there. So I empathize with Lucy so very much with this.

Tim ‘I bounce boots for breakfast.’ Bradford Lmao I’m dying. I mean no one calls out Tim like our girl. Hot damn. I do love her for it. But of course he’s turning this into a learning moment for her. Because it's Tim. Saying it’s on her to correct it. I mean he’s not wrong… But it’s agitating nonetheless. Since he hasn't lied officially it's a moral issue and not a legal one since its not work related.

Which beyond sucks. No two ways about it. Especially since Lucy has been a good teacher to him. He's taking advantage of that wholeheartedly. He wouldn't have made it past day one with Tim. But he sees Lucy's empathy and is exploiting it. *grumble* Her smile at the end with Tim isn't without a little flirty energy I will say. I will take my crumbs in a lighter episode for them.

Then immediately after Tim leaves the problem walks himself right in. I said this last ep, every time he opens his mouth I dislike him just a little bit more. He opens his mouth and I lose patience for him. I can't imagine being in Lucy's position with Seth. If the writers intention was to have me dislike this kid they're doing a masterful job. All I see is a little weasel not worthy of Lucy's time now.

I’m 100% with Lucy not trusting him. He’s gonna have to earn back her trust ten fold. If that's even possible. I would say he gets ten percent of it back and he has to earn the other ninety. That he's lucky he even gets ten. She crushes him when he uses the excuse it's stressful. Straight up OWNS his ass. We can see him panicking to get her back on his side. But that ship has sailed good sir. Not only has it but he is very aware of it.

Man when you have Lucy Chen giving up on you. It's bad my friend. Really all Lucy can do at this point is be a good leader to him. Only way to save herself when he flames out. It’s on Seth to ‘fly right’ as he put. Been there it sucks. Nothing worse than having your trust broken by someone you’re training. Because now everything is colored by that distrust. That empathy you once had has wained quite a bit if you have any left at all. Lucy did not get an easy first rookie. phew lord.

We come to the end of the episode and it's clear Lucy has sat on this the entire day. It is our girl after all. I do love that she keeps gravitating back to Tim. Makes my heart happy. Even though she is one to make the call she still needs him by her side. Friggin adore he doesn’t hesitate to go with her to Grey. I love it sfm. Goes from grumpy to supportive in a second when he realizes she needs him.

That she has a plan in action. That really she's come to him for support not advice this time. He doesn't blink before he's at her side. Not only that but not taking at shots at her decision. I was thinking time to boot that little schmuck. I said couple eps ago I was kind of hoping he'd wash out. Then this happened. His "cancer" is back……He literally tipped his hand twice with her in this episode. Saying when he thinks he is in trouble he does half truths. That when he is panicked and stressed that's his go to. Then all of a sudden his cancer is back that same day. How very convenient of those lab results to show up right now.

Tim's face is everything LOL He is now over this dude himself. The look they share is top notch though. Silent communication at it's finest. How can she say no when he says his “cancer “ is back? And in front of Grey who has zero idea about her suspicions. This feels like a ploy to keep himself safe. He could feel Lucy turning on him.

Could sense the tide was turning against him in the worst way so he did this. I could be wrong but this feels pretty right. Lucy holds his fate in her hand. So what better way to stay afloat than to use cancer. She can't possibly fire him now can she? Ugh. This little shit being far more of a problem than ever expected. Holy cow. I honestly expected Miles to be more of the problem but here we are....Shall be interesting to see how the pans out.

Now let's talk about the most exciting that happened which was the promo after this ep LOL Other than the little Chenford we got this ep didn't do much for me. Other than anger me against Seth lol This was a just a fillery place holder to get to this one IMO. The description alone has me amped. "The Gala" It’s Valentine’s Day, and Lieutenant Grey gives Tim and Lucy an unromantic assignment, while John and Celina track down a missing girl. Later, the team sharpens up for a charity gala where multiple relationships come to a head." Hard to believe been a year since she got her necklace. I'm not crying you are.....

Now this promo had me wishing it was next week. The promo had me all jazzed this morning. Oh my lord. Genny is back! Also Tim looks soft as butter for her in that promo. Man is transparent af. Saying how good she looks in front of people? I did say continue being this way and he is following those instructions ha To say I am excited for next week is an understatement.

This is actually a very interesting chart. I’m not very familiar with a lot of the positions present in here, but based on my guesses, I would say this is a very powerful duo that may attract a lot of envy and jealousy.

Chiron directly on the ascendant makes this one of the most important factors in the relationship

People can see how much this relationship either hurts or heals you

There are a lot of libra placements in this chart which would usually indicate a favorable relationship, but none of them are particularly aspecting each other or conjunction so these are still independent parts in the relationship.

What I mean by this is while there’s a lot of balance and dynamic ism in the relationship They aren’t necessarily components working together. 

There are hints of like a true love here not necessarily romantic, but genuine. But the conjunction is a 15° orb so it’s on the lighter end.

The planets that do happen to be aspecting in this chart are somewhat of a cause for concern for me, which makes me think that would be more of a hurting relationship with Chiron in the first house. 

 Pluto in the first House is squaring Mars in the 10th house and this brings a lot of public attention to the relationship. Pluto makes you guys very powerful together and Marz in the 10th happily gives drive but the square makes me think people may not like you guys together.

The luminaries are so important when looking at what the relationship means to you guys, son, being in Libra means the identity of this relationship is a balanced union, it could be a beautiful relationship, but it is in opposition to the moon, which is an Aries.

If this is a hetero relationship, then the man might be in the relationship more to be a part of a relationship. Whereas the woman might take on more of an independent role or is simply self empowered. Neither of these placements are particularly strong in either of these planets.

It’s been 2 weeks since Onyx Storm came out so I feel ok posting this now. This contains spoilers for Onyx Storm below the cut so if you haven’t read it or aren’t finished reading it scroll away!!!

So, after fishing the book, and re-skimming through multiple times, as well as sitting it with it for a while, here are some thoughts that I have. I also have several theories, for not only what this book revealed but also the Empyrean series as a whole. I’m planning to do weekly posts for that, so each theory gets its own focus. If that’s something you’re interested in stay tuned!

-First, Violets second signet is dream walking! I literally predicted this!! I felt like a genius when I read it. That’s all.

-Second, if there can be corrupt riders, why can’t there be good venin??? I mean all Xaden’s ever used his power for is destroying venin and wyvern and protecting Violet. He’s never actually done anything bad. So if a corrupt rider is bad, then can a corrupt venin be good?

-Third, I think Aaric took the missing the dragon eggs. He’s a precog, so he obviously knows something is up. Plus the queen of Unnbriel said she’d help them IF they brought her dragon eggs. Him and Molvic are seen flying AWAY from battle (south) when everyone is headed into it. Violet and Tairn both comment on how weird it is. “Molvic has been spotted along the cliffs.” “If he gets himself killed-“ “He was seen flying south, away from the conflict.” “it’s not like Aaric to run away.” “Nor Molvic.” Obviously we know that he gave Violet the dagger to kill Theophanie but I think after he did that he took the dragon eggs to the isles.

-Also, dang did I cry like a baby when Quinn died. It was like Liam 2.0 and I was NOT prepared.

-Fuck I thought Mira was a goner for sure. And Ridoc. Honestly, I kept waiting for Ridoc to die all book and thank god he didn’t. RY said someone we love won’t survive book 4 and I just can’t help thinking it’s him. She spent so much time developing him in this book, and he’s had a few near death experiences already (the knife on Hedotis, the arrow on the Madarro pass) that I just don’t think he’s safe😭

-I absolutely lost it when Andarna left like excuse me. She came back though. THANK GOD. That whole plot line was wild. Like I have so many questions??? And HOW IS SHE BACK WHEN SHE QUITE LITERALLY JUST LEFT.

-Rhiannon and Imogen’s POVs gave me LIFE. Like omg my girls. It also gives me hope that they’re gonna survive the series.

-At the end of the book Andrana says, “I won’t let them burn you”??? Like excuse me are we talking dragon fire??? Because the only way Violet would be burned by dragon fire is if she’s a TRAITOR. I need to know what happened Rebecca please.

-Finally, I’m just… shocked at the end??? Not that the marriage was shocking necessarily, because RY definitely hinted at it enough during the book. I just didn’t expect it in THE LAST THREE PAGES. Same goes for the memory wiping. I kept waiting for Imogen to use it on Violet. Overall, to me it’s not as bad of a cliffhanger as iron flame. I don’t really know how to explain it but I feel like there’s almost more closure this time around. Maybe I’m weird idk😂

First, I’m so honored that a song made you think of Mob Boss Bob. Like that makes me feel some type of way I can’t even describe 🥹

Second. I Can See You is such a MBB and Abby coded song, it’s borderline unreal, and the part you shared? Perfect. Hints at the secret Abby’s keeping from Bob, suit and necktie (trousers around his ankles, Abby on her knees), the fact that they can’t get enough of each other after the first taste? I’m done. It’s perfect for them.

Am I gonna have to write something for them inspired by this song? Mayhaps. Maybe she wears the lingerie he bought for her, and they get it on in his office. Who’s to say?

#YES!!!! #honestly i was oversimplfying in the other post because i was hurrying to get it out before the train left the station and i lost wifi lolol #really my answer is more nuanced in that they are BOTH some flavor of dog all the time (bond is a dog who likes having orders and q is a #dog who has Something to Protect etc etc) #and sometimes they're both doing that and it's chill and sometimes bond is the cheetah and i Do think there are occasions on which q is #the cheetah. but it's a strange twisted up backwards sort of way #like hmm. how to describe the very specific vibe i have in my head #situation i was thinking of is specifically q has been Livestock Dog all day and in lots of different directions #because that's the thing right with q he has his flock but they're all over the world usually (q branch is also His but they're easier #because they're physically nearby as opposed to the agents that are out in th world in active danger) #and this stresses him tf out because he wants to be able to protect all of them and the nature of the job is #that he can't but he's Trying to in as many directions as he can #and i think in that specific flavor of situation bond would be the dog to his cheetah but with the added layer that bond is very much His #dog the whole time. and it works mostly by dint of bond's presence being calming in that Look Here's One (Your Favorite One) #He's Yours And He's Safe. take a breath and eat something and maybe delegate #i also enjoy q best when he us very in control of everything i just also enjoy it when this is simultaneously the source of problems for him #when situations appear in which it would be best for him to give the control up a little and he can't make himself do it because what if #something happens to his flock yknow #and in those situations bond would be the calming dog not in an in control calm dommy sort of way but in the exact other way. the subbiest #possible way. the look i'm here i'm doing well i'm yours put your teeth and your hands to my throat if you'd like sort of way #am i explaining this coherently? fuck if i know. i was napping two minutes ago and half of my brain still is (via @weidli)

No I think I get you lol it’s the like.. they are each others’ safe harbor/Home-ism of it all. Like one can’t be On all the time, they need a safe place to decompress & relax. (For me tho I personally like it more when the flavor is Q relaxes by being able to Take Care of Bond vs the like “he’s in control all the time so he needs to give up control to relax” – cuz like that’s not automatically true for everyone and also for me I think Q knows he isn’t in control all the time/he can’t control anything (if nothing else he got a Very Real lesson of that in Skyfall), whereas Bond is the one who almost compulsively HAS to be On all the time cuz if he isn’t On all the time in the field He Will Die. So being able to let go of control is more of a foreign concept to him and also a novelty and a marvel.)

But I do like the idea of Bond being a form of outlet for Q, it’s like… there’s so many variables out in the wild he can’t control, but with Bond this is a very tangible thing he can do. It’s like the idea of you may not be able to help the whole world, but you can help one person – or maybe like, you can’t adopt all of the dogs in need of a good home in the world, but you can make all of the difference to This One Specific Dog :P

But no I agree of like. Bond also being a calming/centering/grounding presence for Q in the like. Look, you are making a difference. You mean something – everything, even – to me. And it’s making all of the difference in the world.

(but yeah lmao also to expound on this even if idk if anyone actually wants me to- The reason I personally don’t favor Q as cheetah-coded is cuz I feel like cheetah-coding is like, Neuroses & Ambiguous Disorder-coding and I think if either of them is the Neurotic one, it’s Bond with all of his Ambiguous (and Unambiguous but Resolutely Undefined - if he doesn't Look At Them then surely they can't see him) Disorders. also Q gets assigned The Neurotic One a lot in fanon and I’m like, let’s shake it up, let Bond be the manic pixie dream girl disaster nightmare and Q be the Well Adjusted One (well, yk, the As Well Adjusted As One Working at MI6 Can Be one). Feels like very often even if they're like Q's just a normal guy he almost compulsively gets assigned a host of insecurities and etc. idk man he's kind of silly but I don't think this means he HAS to have a fundamental unsurety about himself. Let him be Confident perhaps even too much so but like clearly that's been/being tempered by Experience. Make his flaw be hubris not insecurity. Which is like not to say he doesn't also need gentleness & comfort & care & reassurance like I agreee I think as much as Bond can get a lot from Q, Q can get a lot from Bond. But yeah in more of a like. Yes even if I can't save the whole world, I can at least save him kind of way- which I think is what ur kind of getting at too maybe? <3)

meanwhile, Iiiii am marinating on the idea of Bond getting a handcrafted leather collar from Q (lovingly handcrafted, of course, by Q). it would be soooo good for him, it'd be like having Q's hand at his throat and on his nape all the time. it'd be a tangible sign that Q wants him and more importantly, wants to keep him. it would keep him soooo anchored and centered and grounded. it would be so so good for him and he would love it so much

There's something so wondrously momentous about Style only saying his "I love you" now, when he realises that all the secrets he was keeping from Fadel are already laid bare.

He says this a significant time after Fadel has said his (and, in the context of the wider narrative, after Kant and Bison) and for the character we have seen as prone to glibness, exaggeration and flippancy with his words, that feels incredibly intentional.

Because this confession was the only truth Style had left to give.

Fadel is finally done playing his (poorly thought out) game, done with his (already cracking at the seams) charade, done with giving Style more opportunities to pull at his heartstrings with his earnestness lies.

Fadel is demanding the truth, and tells Style exactly what truth he wants to hear.

And the thing is, there is truth in this: Style's motivations at the start were wrapped up in a deception specifically targeting Fadel.

I know we, as a fandom, harp on about Style "doing all that for a car", but something I would like us all to revisit is what Kant actually says to Style when he first asks Style to "hit on" Fadel:

Kant: You need to help me. You know I don't usually feel this way about someone. And then shortly later, after Style refuses: Kant: Hey, hold on. (Kant grabs Style's hand.) What do I have to do to for you to help me out? Should I pay you?

(Please forgive my inability to gif and watch Style's reaction to this.) Style is visibly surprised and intrigued. Kant seems to be serious about this request, and I think Style decides to test just how important it is to Kant by asking for the one thing he knows Kant will not give up.

Just look the expressions on Style's face. We didn't have the context of knowing Style back then as well as we do now, but this is the look Style gets when he's throwing out a challenge (to Fadel), when he's trying to ferret out some new insight (from Fadel), when he wants to see how someone (Fadel) will react to whatever outlandish (provocative) thing he's said or done.

And when Kant agrees, Style even checks again if Kant is serious about going through with it -- and it's this that convinces Style of the sincerity of Kant's request.

Yes, the car was a factor, and yes Style also wanted revenge and to humble Fadel, but at the centre of Style's motivation has always been a plea for help from a friend.

In episode 1: Kant: Under one condition. You have to make him head over heels in love with you. Style: I'll do it. Not just for the car, but someone like him needs to be humbled by someone like me.

But in agreeing to help Kant, Style really was damning Fadel to play the fool because Fadel's feelings (his heart) was a commodity that Style was fully willing to play with back then.

And there are aspects of truth here too. When Kant tells Style about Fadel (and Bison) being hitmen, Style decides he's done and wants out. Kant reasons that it's more dangerous for Style to break up with Fadel now, because it would look suspicious, but crucially this isn't enough to convince Style.

So Kant, once again, makes the plea to friendship and to his need for Style specifically, and it is this that causes Style to finally cave.

But in doing so, the things that Style agrees to are:

Kant: Work with me. Help me get more information about them. Once we get that, it's done. Captain puts them in jail, and we walk free.

So while Style may not be directly working with the police, he is working with Kant who he knows is working with the police. By proxy, Style is involved with the police, but in front of the empty pool, he makes it clear to Fadel just what that involvement actually entailed:

Style: Kant asked me to take you out so you could leave him alone and he could freely investigate. Fadel: What did he get out of it? Style: I don't know! That ain't my business! All I was asked of is to take you out.

And this, too, actually is true! Since finding out, Style has literally not discovered a single thing that could be remotely useful to the police investigation:

He's found out that Fadel likes to gym at night. He's found out that Fadel uses tenderloin in his burgers. That he runs in the morning before going to the market. That he attends a grief support group.

But these were all things Kant also already knew and could have given the police if it were in any way useful for the investigation.

Even his attempts to get Fadel to confess to his "other job" (something the police also already know) were clearly in service of wanting to save Fadel and/or convince him to give up the life of crime in the hopes that Fadel wouldn't have to be sent away from Style to prison.

But the truths are tangled up in misunderstandings and Fadel's own assumptions now; and also further tainted again by Bison's own hurt over Kant's betrayal. And Fadel literally cannot see -- because his eyes are filled with tears [see: @thisautistic's gifset + my tags] (good grief, Joong, the actor you are) -- the honesty Style is bleeding from the marrow of his bones.

Because the truth is that along the way Style has also found out that Fadel is a good older brother. That Fadel is still hurting and bleeding inside because his parents were murdered. That Fadel wears his favourite bands' make up in secret because he cannot bear the thought of other's judgement. He's found out that Fadel misses Style, wants Style, and hates himself for it. That Fadel is afraid to love. That Fadel is acutely aware of his own darkness and cannot comprehend an existence that would not involve someone (Style) rejecting it. That Fadel does not believe that 100% trust is possible, but that he will get himself drunk so that he can offer Style as much vulnerability as he can physically make himself give.

Because the things that Style did find out were all the ways Fadel's heart is soft and tender and precious and worthy worthy worthy of all the love Style has to give.

And Style will stand firm on this truth because this is the only thing he has left to give Fadel.

Because Fadel knows, now, all the ways Style was unworthy of his trust, but crucially has not figured out the most important truth:

Because in all the ways that Fadel has ever known he should want, Style actually IS worthy of his trust. Style knows the truth Fadel is hiding, knows what this man is capable of, knows the danger of being in his arms, knows the likely nonexistent future Fadel has to offer him -- and wants him anyway. -- Quoted from my meta post on the "One day, I'll be your 100%" line.

And as I alluded to in the tags on @yinwaring's insightful post: Style fully embodies the belief he espouses; because even in the face of a gun to his head and Fadel threatening to kill him if he will not admit that this, too, is a lie, Style refuses to give Fadel anymore dishonesty.

And this is because Style knows that the truth matters; now more than ever.

Because Style has had days to grapple with his worry after Fadel's disappearance. Style has had a week's worth of checking the diner only to face the regret he feels about not handling things differently. Style has had to recognise the terror of thinking he had lost something he never even knew he wanted in the first place.

And while Fadel had his realisation back in episode 4, Style never had to face this until Fadel vanished from his life and left a gaping hole in the shape of the absence of Fadel's smile.

So if this is what it takes, if this is the penance that Fadel demands of him, then it is a price Style is most happy to pay.

Because Fadel does not realise is that Style, too, now knows what it means to lose a love worth fighting for.

And in the war Fadel now feels compelled to wage against Style (because, yes, that's definitely still going on), the one damning thing Fadel has failed to recognised is that his only true weapon was leaving Style behind.

Which is why Style has already won. Not because Fadel's walls have crumpled again or because they don't still have a ton of things to talk through and work out (they really, really do), but because Style has already been stripped bare (and I mean this literally, like we all recognise THAT was the reason why Dunk is only in boxer shorts in that scene, right?? Like, I know we were joking about it, but seriously, that was so very intentional and a visual representation of Style being both stripped and, most importantly, freed from the lies he felt compelled to tell Fadel) and this means he has nothing holding him back.

And Fadel can wield his gun and his words and his anger and his hurt, but Style will die on the hill of the truth that he knew and understood and chose to love Fadel anyway, and saved this last confession for when he knew he could tell Fadel the truth without any lingering deception; and when the time is right, when Fadel is finally ready, Style will be there to welcome him back with open arms and, without any hesitation, an open heart.
