Over the course of 3 hours, James calms Regulus from a panic attack, Regulus calms James from a panic attack, they pace around, play ice breakers, etc etc and finally kiss but they both eventually get cell service back and find out both of their emergency calls are to Sirius and realize who the other is

I feel like a lot of mouthwashing fans forget that murder is a bad thing.

Like those who have their good end is swansea killing jimmy before daisuke and anya die. Yes that would be a good ending but none of them WANT to escalate to murder! That's WHY it gets so bad! They're stuck together, but for most of the game anya is the only one who has a valid reason to want to kill jimmy but she doesn't want to be a murderer. Even swansea only escalates to prevent daisuke from being in pain.

Anya and curly are the only ones who worry about jimmy lashing out, swansea probably does have a sense after anya confides in swansea.

We as the audience have the knowledge of how unstable jimmy is because of the dramatic irony that comes from changing pov characters.

Curly is maybe the only one who could have stopped jimmy after the crash, but he's the only one physically incapable of sharing or acting on that.

Swansea probably had a bad feeling about jimmy after the crash, which is why he hides the working cryopod. He knew that information could be dangerous and lead to infighting so he made sure no one else knew.

As much as all of the characters are flawed, and make bad decisions, they are still all believably human characters.

More praise needs to be given to narratives that prioritize believable characters over 'perfect' endings. Mouthwashing is one of those stories where it couldn't have gone any other way.

(Welcome back to head cannon alley where Jason isn’t really present during his pit episodes and instead goes into a floater like state. He doesn’t really know what’s going on all he knows is that the pit is indulging on his more morally gray actions.

Also it’s a head canon that the pit episodes gives an almost euphoric state, so you feel good when they happen. They’re addictive, which adds another layer onto why it’s hard to fight against them, to stay in control.)

Concept: Atsushi doesn’t see Ranpo like he used to.

Atsushi still looks up to Ranpo. He still gets him snacks and treats. He still thinks Ranpo’s a genius and incredible in all that he does. He cares for him so much.

But Atsushi doesn’t see Ranpo as invincible anymore.

Because Atsushi’s seen him fail.

He knows that Ranpo can make mistakes. That there are things even he can miss. Ultra Deduction is still so impressive and his mind is brilliant. But Ranpo can be wrong just like everyone else.

And Ranpo hates it.

He hates it more than anything because he’s supposed to be invincible. He’s supposed to be the Worlds Greatest Detective. He’s supposed to know everything, solve any case without an issue.

How can he face these powerful gifted without one if his coworkers, his friends don’t think he’s invincible?

Atsushi has never voiced any of this. He treats Ranpo the same as he did before. It’s all in the little things he does when he thinks no one’s watching that Ranpo catches.

The pause before he smiles and nods when someone tells him that Ranpo can fix everything. Double checking the case notes even after Ranpo’s delivered his deduction.

While no one else even bothers because it’s Ranpo so the case is solved. That used to be Atsushi but it’s not anymore and it hurts.

It reminds Ranpo that his mistake could’ve cost him and Atsushi their lives. That Ranpo managed to escape the fight. That Atsushi had to lose someone he cared about and barely walked away himself.

It reminds Ranpo that he failed Atsushi even though Atsushi has never blamed him.

Atsushi who still trusts and cares about him dearly. Holds him and his words in high regard but knows he’s infallible. That at the end of the day Ranpo is only human.

And how can a human hope to defeat a demon?
