like, rewatching season 3, its clear why they didn’t put them together to me and i can appreciate that!

carmen was struggling with what happened with claire, richie, hell even sydney herself. he let his priorities get shifted - and i think after the table scene, that became clear. but he couldn’t admit it until he was fully by himself-

which, can we just appreciate the freezer scene? like carmen needed to be completely alone. not “alone” with people always able to be around him, but truly alone to realize what was happening. listening to the chaos outside maybe helped as well, as it forced him to admit he was helpless in more than one way.

but, back to my point: they weren’t good in season 3. respect!

but season 4?? this could be THEIR season. here’s how i imagine they’d get them together:

syd tells carm about the job offer she got. she tells him it wasn’t a poaching but it’s an opportunity.

he’d ask if she’s thinking of taking it. but her response isn’t what he thinks: no. “should i be?” — a reference to everything he’d done that season with the constant fighting with richie, the obvious tension in their workplace, the nonnegotiables that made things harder. it was clear when she had to tell him to calm down that she was tired.

that keeps him up that night. should she be thinking of it?

and he can’t say she shouldn’t be. he’d been awful to her - as a boss / co-worker / mentor but also as a friend. it was clear with the table scene (IT ALWAYS GOES BACK TO THAT), he at least somewhat realized bringing claire into the big decisions instead of sydney was a mistake. HE ADMITTED THAT!!

he knows it’s a good opportunity, he knows it could be what she wants— but then, he slowly realizes. he wasn’t upset at the idea of her taking the job. he was scared at the idea of losing her completely. her taking the job didn’t guarantee she’d stay in his life- why should she?

and another question: would he react if it was anyone else telling him this? like nat saying she got another opportunity instead of being the project manager / whatever her other role is there that i cant think of the name of (co-runner, idfk)

and like a goddamn freight train, it hits him and runs him over. he wouldn’t because they aren’t syd. they aren’t the person he goes to for everything- the one he’s scared of disappointing the most.

ok so like I recently just started watching thanks to a friend of mine and I'm around episode 161-ish, so really early uhm but. A recent arc from where I'm at has like, taken a hold on my brain and I just need to let it out. After Sun kills Bloodmoon and decides that killing Eclipse and KC would solve all their problems, everyone around him starts saying he is acting like Eclipse. That made me so mad. No one knew he killed Bloodmoon, at first anyway I kinda forgot if anyone found out, but to an outsider it just looked like Sun was just done with the whole thing and he was expressing his anger at everything and I honestly believe that was completely justified. I don't think it was fair at all that Lunar and Moon specifically said that Sun was acting like the very person that is actively ruining his life. I think Sun deserves to express negative emotions without being told he is wrong for doing so. He should be able to get snippy with people, he should be able to snap every now and then. Moon (up to that point) was rude to everyone, and I barely saw anyone in the show criticizing him to the point they were with Sun. Granted Sun did say he was going to kill Eclipse, but I don't think he was wrong for wanting to, and y'know, instead of demonizing his anger and frustrations at feeling rather helpless, someone should've like tried to help him regulate??? Idfk I just hated how everyone treated him like he was acting evil all of a sudden when he was just angry. He had and has every right to be angry, and it is unfair that he is expected to be passive and happy most of the time. i dunno if this made any sense I rlly just wanted to type it out.

Look, I’ll even bring in some facts to prove my point. I went through the entirety of the asks posted in May, there’s 460 in total as of me submitting this one. And of those asks, 30 are about humanizations. You may not think that’s a lot, but when you put it into percentage, you get 6.52%. You may still not think that’s a whole lot, but guess what, it actually is. The ideal amount of gijinka discussion on this blog is 0%, because almost all of the asks from this month were related to controversy. Clearly, talking about them causes drama, and thus the topic should be banned from this blog.

I hope we can all calmly come to this conclusion and collectively cease sending asks about humanized objects.

i meannn gijinkas are a part of the osc in the sense they are the same object character just drawn in a different form. the fact that theyre drawn in a different way that isnt an object is completely irrelevant to the fact it’s just a fan’s interpretation of an osc character. idfk, stupid example but its the only one i can think of right now, its like saying that one part of my little pony where they were humans instead of horses isnt part of the franchise cause the franchise is called my little pony and theyre not horses. false advertising.

and then i'm going to have Sloppy Joe who's probably gonna be a college of swords bard/maybe um barbarian i don't know. i've never multiclasses before so im kinda messing around with these (i guess this is John Blood's gay best friend or something idfk) (do John Blood and Sloppy Joe kiss? asking the actual important questions here, nobody cares about these NUMBERS)

Astarion gloomstalker 8/assassin 4? maybe 10/2? gloomstalker assassin is a 100% MUSTTT though cuz it sounds sooooo fun

and then Shadowheart just as a full life cleric probably. idk i might make another character because im doing a dark urge playthrough (the only reason why i had to pick oathbreaker paladin in favor of playing paladin normally, unfortunately) so i lowkey feel like she might hate me i dunno. Bg3 is wayyyy more forgiving about that than Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition though

in which this chapter managed to make me give a shit about every character involved which was completely unprecedented. but also what the fuck just happened

anyway this chapter started off pretty strong (esp with that sage fight) but i was pretty paranoid that they would make seele pull a kiana for bubble universe(s) #547887648 which was the only thing i didn't really care much for in this chapter. i guess it's bc all they've interacted with is faceless npcs and vita, but vita isn't a native so......

at least there was plenty of gay shit

side note, i was curious about the two new mobs: white sword of damocles and black wine of theramenes. the sword of damocles is a famous symbol but i couldn't figure out the symbolic significance of "wine of theramenes," which doesn't seem to be a thing? and i don't see any parallels between theramenes and the sage other than "figure centered between two sides (worlds)" idfk...

this was one of my fave moments in the chapter bc you very rarely see a "smart" character fuck things up royally and also try amend them, by a former antagonist no less. honestly i did not care much about misteln initially but they managed to humanize her (and prometheus) throughout this whole ordeal so that's cool

y'know she didn't have to defend fuhua here but she did anyway hehe 😳

also i noticed they modeled the shark teeth for niggurath which is kinda funny considering they were lazy enough to reuse hua's model and face, and this shit would be too hard to see on a phone.. but now i wish they would give hos shark teeth too 😔

formulating small thoughts on all of the sinners in limbus so far (some vague limbus company spoilers, LARGE TEXT WALL WARNING):

yi sang - the blorbo. the scrimblo even. he is definitely one of my favourite sinners after canto 4 (will post my full thoughts on that later) which is surprising because i didn't really like him that much before at all. i was really neutral on him but canto 4 has just made me love him to bits

faust - she is super interesting to me, considering her source material i think she has the potential to have the best canto. i am also just constantly entertained by her antics (hell's chicken was the BEST for getting to know everyone a little more outside of the main plot. i'm super excited for 4.5) it's obvious she's hiding something, i think dante even mentions as such, but i think that makes her cooler. she is the one who (presumably) recruited all the sinners and vergilius, so she's rlly rlly interesting and i hope we get to know more soon (soon as in 2 YEARS WHEN HER CANTO IS OUT)

don quixote - definitely top 3 sinners for me, she's everything... she grew on me so much, after things like her moment with sinclair, the facade slip in canto 2... she's just super interesting to me and i'm really excited to see what comes with her canto. plus her favourite moment of mine which is the bongy chicken log where she talks about eating the chickens, and then proceeds to not own up to it. phenomenal job don

ryoshu - hellscreen is one of my favourite pieces of literature referenced by limbus, and it's real fucked up. ryoshu is very entertaining to watch, though she rarely speaks. seeing sinclair translate her acronyms is very silly and overall as a character i really like her so far. excited to see what's to come for her

meursault - i like meursault, there's no one i actively dislike, but i'm just neutral on him. he's cool i just dunno how to feel about him yet. his source material is cool though i'm excited to see how his canto goes. his moment in hell's chicken was silly and made me like him a lot more

hong lu - he's silly. i think all of the sinners are silly but hong lu takes the cake. though after canto 4 i've started respecting him a lot more, he can be really mature and he is a sweet little guy he's just a little dumb sometimes. i really enjoy his presence in the group though, he's great, i can't wait for his canto (though i'll probably never read his source material because of its sheer length, but i'll probably force myself to eventually because i am interested). thank you project moon for making me read classical literature

heathcliff - funnily enough heathcliff was one of my least favourites out of the group at the start of the game, but he is definitely one of my favourites now. it's been really sweet to see him gradually start to care about the other sinners and he has mellowed out a lot which i appreciate. wuthering heights is cool and i'm excited to see his canto (which i think is coming after ishmael's, so hype!)

ishmael - ISHMAEL. she is amazing. wonderful. beautiful. i'm not sure if i'd say she's my favourite sinner but she is definitely in my top 3 with donquixote, though if you asked me idfk who else is in the top 3. SO excited for her canto and she seems really interesting from the tidbits we got about her so far. like, she's gone to the outskirts? i hope she finally gets the closure she needs and deserves (..and we get a sea shanty from mili LOL)

rodya - the mother of the group... rodya was another character i didn't really care for at the start of the game but she's SO sweet and i don't understand how i didn't like her. canto 2 wasn't my favourite but it was really silly and i hope she gets another focus canto at some point because it feels unfair that sinclair and yi sang (and probably everyone else from this point) get a mili song but gregor and rodya don't??? i dunno, i really like both of them and i think it's a shame since their arcs didn't feel complete.. so hopefully she gets more spotlight!

sinclair - sinclair is very very cool. i like him very much, his canto was really interesting and kromer was a really cool villain, i like seeing him slowly gain confidence over the story and demian looks to be a really cool character as well. like gregor and rodya, his arc didn't feel fully complete to me (?) but hopefully he can get more of a spotlight in the future despite canto 3 being phenomenal already. i am not opposed to more sinclair content, he fits in the group really well and he bounces off the other sinners well. i really like him!!!

outis - words cannot describe how excited i am to learn more about outis. she's such an asshole but we support women's wrongs. was there any need to make fun of sinclair like that in canto 4? no, but she did it anyway. she seems to give less and less of a fuck about maintaining her relationship with dante every canto and i find that hilarious, outis is amazing. i'm really excited for her canto, i like her a lot

gregor - he is done so wrong in his canto. SO WRONG... gregor deserves the world, all he has ever done is be a cool guy to the rest of the sinners and he was the first person to kinda be nice to dante. and that was from the start as well. massive respect to trauma dad he is amazing. i hope he gets more spotlight soon, he works so well in the group and he has such fun interactions with everyone.

dantehh - they're so cool. they're so amazing. shuckaroonies they are a really interesting character. i really REALLY appreciate that they're not a self-insert because i think that would shatter my soul. i'm really interested to find out who they are, how this whole reversing people's time came from and where they came from because faust seems to know who they were before. they are a very good executive manager. well done on scoring those goals for lcg you absolute legend

these obviously aren't my full thoughts on all of the sinners, i'd love to do individual posts analysing all of the sinners and possibly a post with predictions about the next cantos based on the their respective source materials. but this is just how i feel about them after engaging in limbus for about 2 months and getting into lobcorp and ruina. (if you have read this far, and somehow haven't played these two games, PLEASE PLAY THEM THEY ARE SO GOOD...........)

Hey so maybe I've missed it but what do you think, did harrow got to break in the tomb when it was a kid or no?

During my first read was a good fridge moment to get the answer and now I wait for anyone reading this book to get it

idfk! My general view on this kind of thing is that, an author can take it either way. I'm about to go into a full logical breakdown of it, but the author has full ability and right to say that all of my assumptions were wrong and it doesn't work remotely the way I think it does. Both paths for the story are entirely valid and potentially interesting!

All of that said, I'll still try to think it through a little.

We know that Harrow made it in somewhere. God said he wasn't sure what false chamber or whatever she made it into, but why would there be a false chamber? Would the Ninth House have constructed such a thing at some point? Why? That would imply there's some Ninth House scandal in their past where some other bombshell blonde had to be imprisoned. Or Harrow is just so insane that she imagined the whole thing, which would be very unsatisfying.

Harrow sees the Body. Wherever she made it into, it left this magical-psychological imprint on her. This leaves three possibilities: She made it into the Tomb, and Alecto has been part of her mind because magic. She made it into some other chamber, holding something which just also had the ability to enter her mind. Or she's that crazy. Her being that crazy would be unsatisfying, and I think that the lore would feel inelegant if there's just some completely different thing that can cause this. It clutters the concepts, and takes away narrative space to actually explore what should be interesting about the Tomb itself and Alecto herself.

Another possibility is that Harrow didn't make it into the Tomb, but did make it far enough that Alecto could enter her mind like this.

Narratively, I think the reason you raise a possibility like "Harrow is deluded and didn't actually enter the Tomb" is not so that a book or two later, you can say "Yes, it continues to be true that she didn't enter the Tomb." It's so you can mess with the reader's mind and gaslight into thinking Harrow didn't enter the Tomb, so that we can then say that she did. That, or it reveals some unexpected third thing that provides equal surprise value. It would just feel structurally flat if God was right about what he said. If the answer is supposed to be that Harrow didn't enter the Tomb, then we would reveal that, and give further explanation (of things like why she thinks she did and sees the Body) at the same time. Not claim it but leave it as a further open mystery.

We know it is possible to enter the Tomb without God, if you're his kid. The reason Gideon didn't die to the gas is probably because she's this universe's Jesus equivalent (this disqualifies her from being my favorite character), but maybe the attempt to kill her did something funky and gave Harrow some of her... essence? I dunno if this one makes sense; they implied it was really about like, cellular DNA, not souls or anything. Maybe Harrow had some of Gideon's spit on her while she tried to enter. Still, this is at least proof that the Tomb is not impossible to open without God. Sanderson's First and all; we can provide a magical explanation to how Harrow got in, but it does need some foreshadowing somewhere, such that it's an a-ha! moment rather than an asspull. The thing is, the base concept of Alecto being visible to Harrow like this, is super vague! Whether or not that's caused by Harrow entering the Tomb, there's clearly some big magical stuff going on that we don't know the details on yet. Along with what kind of monster Alecto is. Now, sure, we can say that God has explained the rules and thus those rules can't be broken — but we also know from Harrow seeing the Body that there are more rules going on than those which have been revealed to us, therefore the possibilities are endless and we can't say that Harrow having entered the Tomb is impossible.

All of this combined, I think the more likely outcome is that Harrow did enter the Tomb and see Alecto. But you know, I'm not even sure if that was the question you were asking. Like, it's possible that the answer is supposed to be something we can figure out already, if we pay close enough attention to the evidence. Everything I said was trying to predict things off the presumption of a future reveal. If it is possible to figure it out for sure by now, then I can safely say that I haven't.

...you know, this is completely unrelated, but I only just realized the sheer extent to which Harrow is inspired by a certain character from Umineko. I literally can't even describe why because of how insanely big of a spoiler for Umineko it is, but it involves the stuff we're talking about right now. Harrow is for sure fairly different, and has a lot of her own stuff going on, but this one aspect is so specific as something so similar.

So my brother bought me JTTW to read when he found LMK so I could compare/contrast with the show and now I come bearing a question about Macaque: I see that he's supposed to be the shadow-self, but there's this emphasis on completely eliminating the shadow-self (which in JTTW makes sense he was terrifying). IDK what message they're going for in LMK other than 'Wukong bad' (but the show seems to have a vandetta against Wukong so idfk) so if it just zoomed over my head please inform me I am l o s t. What if an interpretation came out discussing Macaque in the light more of the Black Moon Lilith? It hits the same beats as being the "shadow self", that being the nastier truths about yourself that you don't want to admit. But I think it would be neat if there was some expansion: In reading a star chart you're meant to use your Lilith as a way to confront the darkest parts of yourself and learn that they're a part of you just as much as the positive sides of you. I feel like Macaque could be a really good example of someone who leaned into his Lilith entirely too much until he was consumed by it, versus Wukong who acknowledged his Lilith (destructive behavior & anger) and didn't obliterate it, he did the healthy thing and acknowledged it (eventually), even moderating it. Outright trying to destroy your Lilith is actually a horrible idea since, whether you like it or not, it's still a part of you. Hurting your Lilith still hurts you. I dunno I just would love to see this,,, If a piece of media has already done this please let me know because I actually study astrology and I would go WILD if this concept was explored (/positive)!!

Well in Xiyouji they don't kill Six Eras being he is terrifying (while he is) but rather they kill him because it is to show Wukong finally standing up to his inner self. This is his first time controlling his own impulses and shutting them down with his own self-restraint.

That being said I really think that LMK just makes their Six-Eared Macaque a guy. Some person. Which isn't the first time Xiyouji media has given the Six Ears an individual past from Wukong, there is a lot actually! There is a lot of Six Ears backstory lore, esp in the last 10 years or so but… I'm not sure if I can say that LMK Six Ears is a Lilith at all.

Considering that 1. trying to wrap other mythos in Chinese mythos. I've seen interpretations where Indian or Japanese lore has been mixed with Xiyouji interactions but this "Black Moon Lilith" looks like it comes from Greek Astrology. I really don't think the showrunners would go that far at least for what is supposed to be a Chinese franchise to add Western mythos… at least I would hope that as that seems a bit tasteless.

And 2. they are really making it that the LMK Six Ears wasn't born from LMK Wukong but rather they were separate entities from the very start. LMK Six Ears is a person all unto his own and yes while he is supposed to represent the worst traits of Wukong as an allegory and is a spiritual monkey that doesn't have to mean every interaction he has to bodily be connected to Wukong. At least in this version from what I can tell he is to be on the same level of connection as Demon Bull King as they are Sworn Brothers.

That being said I don't know a lot about Greek Astrology myself and I've been interested in studying it... so I don't know if other media has used it before.

I would just say to be careful when trying to pinpoint Western mythos and apply them to Eastern mythos. I'm not saying they can't interact but that trying to analyze one through the lens of the other could just lead to confusion. I understand trying to find concepts and trying to make new media more reliable but I think it might be dangerous trying to try to use other media as examples when expressing these ideas when they are not the intended purpose.
