"It's strange that they don't seem to mind you, Otto," he said, calming down a little.
"Vell, I am not official," said Otto. "I do not haf zer sword und zer badge. I do not threaten. I am just a vorking stiff. And I make zem laff."
Vimes stared at the man. He'd never thought about that before. But yes...little fussy Otto, in his red-lined black opera cloak with pockets for all his gear, his shiny black dress shoes, his carefully cut widow's peak and, not least, his ridiculous accent that grew thicker or thinner depending on whom he was talking to, did not look like a threat. He looked funny, a joke, a music-hall vampire. It had never previously occurred to Vimes that, just possibly, the joke was on other people. Make them laugh, and they're not afraid.

New silly headcanon because my main source of enjoyment from star wars is making myself sad thinking about that sad old man.
When Obi-Wan returns to Padmé's ship after cutting Anakin down, Threepio has already brought Padmé inside. Being the fussy neat freak he is, he has also brought Obi-Wan's and Anakin's robes inside the ship: they are nowhere to be found on the floor.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And Obi-Wan, being the sad, broken man he is, held on to Anakin's robe for the next 20 years. This is why he has Anakin's gameboy advanced! Because it was in Anakin's robe!

But this is not all! Because, this, THIS:
Tumblr media
is in no way THIS:
Tumblr media
BUT THIS:

And Force do I wish I could see Vader's face HERE:

"Is that MY FUCKING ROBE????? Obi-Wan, what the hell-"
So yes, Obi-Wan Kenobi died in Anakin Skywalker's robes, and you will pry this from my cold dead hands

So uhhh I just started Discworld for the first time... Who could have ever guessed that I'd imprint on the weedy anxiety wizard LOL
Just some random moments I've been drawing while listening to the audiobooks.
1: "We should REALLY go somewhere else."
2: "You used all the pink ink! Only monochrome pictures now!"
3: "Come on down, it won't hurt :)"

Oh wow it's odd going backwards in the Discworld timeline to Cheri Littlebottom's intro. A combination of being before Cheri presents feminine and just the general forensics stuff & new hire uncertainty at the job

Sacharissa: I'm helping.
William: Alright, just don't touch the iconograph. He claims it's an extension of his body.
Sacharissa: Noted.

I alluded to it in the tags about how I have another Spahr post to percolate on and think about, but I have to write a post about like, arguably, in terms of narrative role, Spahr IS the Trust.
I mean, not in like the people are shaped by institutions and cultures BUT institutions and cultures are composed of people way, though there's a lot to be said about that I'm sure. In that way, the Trust exists in all its agents and adherents, but I'm talking in a narrative iconography sense.
But, in a sense that like Spahr and the Trust sort of share a vitality, and they spiral at the same time, and you can trace the state of the Trust in parallel to Spahr's own narrative footing. In a sense, arguably, Spahr's arc follows that of the Trust. Spahr can be argued to be the highest narrative representation or stand-in or embodiment of the Trust as a social structure and hierarchy for a mechanical parallel, as an incarnation of its health as a structure: it breathes as he does, and it falters as he doubts, and it is lost the moment he walked out with his clarity.
I have to write a post, I have to write a post articulating all this bc this is just abstract high concept rambling that isn't really laying out the logic here.

Word of the day (Day 5)
Hii!!! Today is day 5 and i'm here with a mostly worldbuilding post. (mostly wordbuilding thursday???)
remember this low quality sickle from yesterday?
Tumblr media
this is it now:
Tumblr media
As you can see, it looks exactly the same as the "water" root character i showed you yesterday:
Tumblr media
(ignore the hook thing: i explained more in the same post from yesterday)
Indeed, the shape of the "water" root word comes from this knife.
As the speakers of my language (or the Windpeople, as i now call them) live in a desert, water is obviously very important to them. Luckily, they have a large, humid marshland and a river delta near where they live, caused by some mysterious supernatural event. (more on that when i flesh it out a bit more)
The plants that grow in the marsh are tall and woody, like bamboo but much wetter. One such type, the One-Wind, grows a waxy, red fruit at the top, to attract birds and insects more easily. Due to the high humidity and large amount of mosquitos, these fruits are rarely harvested, and are considered a delicacy reserved for the royal family and the top few houses of the aristocracy.
The fruits don't even taste that good. By the time they've arrived from the marsh, it's gotten all mushy and gross from the hot weather, and the royals only eat it to show off to their friends and to keep the tradition alive.
Anyways, back to the knife:
(putting the picture here again so you don't have to scroll alll the way back up)
Tumblr media
To harvest the fruit, people trained for this job first use the knife to chop down the tall bamboo-like stalks of the One-Wind, which they then tie three or more together with a few reeds for stability. Grooves are cut into the stalk, and the harvesters then climb the stalk with the knife in hand, using it as a grappling hook whenever they feel wobbly and unstable.
At the top of the makeshift ladder, the harvester secures their feet into small grooves cut into the stalk. Then, they hold the knife with their dominant hand, cutting the fruit off and catching it with their other hand. This is the hardest part of the process, as it's dangerous and near impossible. If the fruit drops and smashes into the ground below, the harvester has to repeat the process until they get at least one.
Due to this, the harvesters slowly started to pray to different deities to bless their knife, both for the safety of themselves and the fruits.
This is one of the most popular carvings: (romanization below the characters)

Foitel hòp itel aitel náp
/foitɛl˧ hop˩ itɛl˧ aitɛl˧ nap˥/
N-moon-ADJZ air-N moon-ADJZ VBZ-moon-ADJZ blade-N (sorry if the gloss is wrong its so confusing)
Wind Deity blesses (this) blade
lots of glyphs here, so heres a short explanation for all of them:
foitel: Deity
hòp: Air
itel: Holy
aitel: bless
náp: blade
(Note: "Holy air" is a poetic way to refer to wind.)
The second inscription is this:
Tumblr media
Náp o shop lòmpal
/nap˥ o˧ ʃop˧ lompal˩/
blade-N PHRASE INDICATOR water-N foot-N-ADJZ
powerful marsh plant cutter
(Note: "náp shop" means "water blade", but adding the phrase indicator "o" , it turns into "marsh plant cutter".)
This is basically a label for the knife, kinda like a shop label doubling as an advertisement, to let people know what the item is and how powerful it is.
Hope this new type of post isnt too long!! I'll be back with some more characters tomorrow though!!
