Hi, could you please tell us something more about Pontocho's geiko Ichisayo? Thanks

Ichisayo II (市さよ) of Dai Ichi (大市) in Pontocho debuted in 1995. Her onesan is currently unknown and her erikae took place sometime before 2000. She has achieved the rank of natori and takes on natori roles for the Kamogawa Odori and Suimeikai. So far she has had 6 known imōto: Ichimame (市真芽), Ichina (市奈), Ichino (市乃), Ichinana (市奈菜), Ichikana (市佳奈), and Ichiyuri (市優里) ^^

So here’s how I’m imagining some of the next SRW’s connections if my predictions end up being correct. (They probably wont.)

Getter Robo Devolution will connect with Getter Robo Arc and Gridman/Dynazenon. Both for very obvious reasons. And some minor connections with ULTRAMAN. Probably feeling like they’re somehow related but don’t actually know how.

Ryoma getting thrown for a loop when he meets a certain someone is honestly going to be pretty funny. Benkei and Hayato giving him crap will also be great.

I can imagine Gridman and the Neon Genesis students will be well aware of Devolution Getter and it’s enemies. Likely having fought some at some point before the plot starts. (Their show and the game)

For Getter Robo Arc I’m imagining it’s main connections will be with Evangelion, Mazinger Z, Mobile Suit Gundam, and GaoGaiGar Vs. Betterman. Evangelion because Takuma could become a big brother figure for Shinji. Especially in 3.0+1.0. Both having fathers connected to machines they were ultimately destined to pilot into battle against forces from beyond Earth. A pilot from both sides being a “double agent” of sorts but actually befriends the main protagonist. Both machines being tied to unspeakable horrors beyond human comprehension. Also moms are deceased. It works pretty damn well.

Arc stops a berserk Eva during it’s debut battle and also bring back the “Getter Robo terrifies angels and Evangelions” since Getters at this point in the story are horrifying. And if the cast learns about Emperor, things will get bad from the fear and paranoia they will all feel. And also having Shin Getter Robo Tarak to call back to Alpha’s scene where a berserk Eva01 is cowering in a corner when Shin Getter Robo shows up.

The Mazinger and Gundam connections are easy as they are more for the SRW traditions than actual plot for respective stories. Koji, Tetsuya, and Amuro want to be there for Ryoma’s son. Since he isn’t with them anymore. They want to help the new generation by training all the future getter pilots. And as such Ichinanas and mass produced Federation Mobile Suits will probably back up the Getter Robo D2’s against the bugs.

Another minor detail is having them be there participating in the war from Getter Robo Go. Just some throw away lines but show that they still helped pre game plot.

At this point it would be an after story or mid story for Mazinger Z Infinity. Before Tetsuya is captured if mid story.

As for GaoGaiGar, it’s only minor but it’s more symbolic for the next generation as Mamoru and Kaido would be peers with the Arc team. That could fit an overall theme of the game if they include more next generation type stories. Another thing is having the Getter Emperor attacking 000 as well while in space. All it’s summons trying to destroy the Emperor super robot and failing miserably.

Pretty fun to think about. How the stories could connect in some fun ways.

One possible explanation: Typical super robot production is prohibitively expensive, involves rare materials, and/or unique circumstances not easily mass produced; the biggest success story in this field, in fact, is the production of the Ichinana units by the Photon Power Laboratory under the guidance of Sayaka Yumi and Koji Kabuto, but that only occurred within the past year.

Meanwhile, GUND format was conceived decades ago as improving on the flawed (and outlawed) Alaya-Vijnana system, in an attempt to mass produce mecha that could rival the performance of super robots, but Unfortunately There Were Complications, and before they could be fixed, the Vanadis Institute was massacred.

A safer variant of these systems, but one that offered much less of a power boost, was secretly used in more modern projects, such as Project V, with any side effects negated by the combination of the learning computer and the pilot's Newtype abilities. However, since the power of these machines was still not seen as on par with typical super robots (or with earlier Gundams), the search for improvements continued, leading eventually to the discovery of, and experimentation with, the mineral now known as 'psychoframe'...

I can’t wait for the next Super Robot Wars to have to explain why the GUND format exists in a world with super robots.

Mass-produced labor designed around the advancements made in the creation of Mazinger Z. Another way of dealing with the Biomega menace. Not many were made in the end, but they pack a wallop. Before the "Super Sentai" is called in, these are the go-to for some Biomega outbreaks.

I believe there is an annual poster in Kyoto where there is a lineup of Maikos, please correct me if I am wrong. Can you tell us more about the poster and it’s process?

I have a funny feeling that you’re referring to the advertisements for the Kyoto Keihan (京阪電車), which is the train system within the city of Kyoto. So far there have only been two posters created for this advertisement campaign: one in 2015 and the other earlier this year in 2018. Here’s the 2015 version:

Image courtesy of The Kyoto Keihan Corporation.It features the massive cast of Mamefuji (まめ藤), Ichiaya (市彩), Ichinana (市奈菜), Momifuku (もみ福), Mikako (実佳子), Katsutomo (佳つ智), Katsusen (佳つ扇), Katsune (勝音), and Shōko (彰子) on the bench, Taka (多香) and Ayaha (あや葉) behind them, and then Ichitomo (市知), Ichiteru (市照), Ichimari (市まり), Katsuna (勝奈), Koeri (小衿), Naokinu (尚絹), and Umechie (梅ちえ). Mamefuji, Mikako, Katsutomo, Katsusen, Shoko, and Koeri are from Gion Kobu. Ichiaya, Ichinana, Momifuku, Taka, and Ayaha are from Pontocho. Katsune, Ichitomo, Ichimari, Naokinu, and Umechie are from Kamishichiken.The idea behind this composition was likely just maiko hanging out while waiting for a train to arrive. There doesn’t seem to be any specific reasons for the groups, but they tend to be made up of senior maiko with a junior maiko, with the seniors explaining things to the juniors as if they’ve done this sort of thing many times. It’s interesting to note here that in three short years all but three maiko have either quit or become geiko, with Taka, Naokinu, and Koeri being the only holdouts.And here’s the newest 2018 version:

The cast this time is Naoai (尚あい), Ichikoma (市こま), Umechie (梅ちえ), Naokinu (尚絹), Ichisumi (市すみ), Mametama (豆珠), Katsuhana (佳つ花), Katsuki (勝貴), Ichiteru (市照), Mamesumi (豆純), Koeri (小衿), Ichisato (市沙登), Mamesaya (豆沙弥), Momika (もみ香), and Ichiaya (市彩). Naoai, Ichikoma, Umechie, Naokinu, and Katsuki are from Kamishichiken. Ichisumi, Ichiteru, Ichisato, Momika, and Ichiaya are from Pontocho. Mametama, Katsuhana, Mamesumi, Koeri, and Mamesaya are from Gion Kobu. I feel like the person who took this image really knew a great deal about geimaiko as the pairings for the mini groups just go so well together. In front we have recently promoted to senior Naoai and Ichikoma marvelling at the train with established seniors Umechie and Naokinu behind them, who are almost remarking about how they’ve done this before as they have three years ago. Ichisumi and Mametama look quite similar, but their pairing with Katsuhana and Katsuki makes each of the girls stand out as Mametama is quite tall whereas Katsuhana is a bit on the short side. It’s cute to note that girls from two different kagai are both carrying on names from a “Katsu” line. Next to them we have Ichiteru, Mamesumi, and Koeri all talking about how senior they are. It’s interesting to note that all three of these girls have names that are only made with kanji and do not feature hiragana or katakana. Ichisato and Mamesaya work so well together because they both debuted on the same day and share a very special bond. Finally, we have first year maiko Momika marvelling at senior maiko Ichiaya who, like some of the others, have done this before and looks quite relaxed ^^
