I think in a year that is going to be very challenging - people are looking inwards towards the body and the power of the body - whether that's strength through the Olympics/Paralympics or performance at the Margiela show or just possibly the reinvigoration of unhealthy body image, a hangover from the 2000s. (Even pre-teens obsessing over having young skin at the beauty store) So things that represent the bodily form such as sculpture in this physical way will be in the limelight? (Getting to the conclusion of this soon.....)

The stats that came out in this FT piece are quite concerning...but glad to know it's not just this and Matt Klein also goes through it slightly in his trend report....

I think it’ll be a defining topic to come over the next decade as this generation (18-35) grows up and start reaching into more mature adulthood and markers like marriage and children are either reached or not reached. And also what are the new markers of being human? These must include things that don't involve money, the foundations must be feelings/emotional.

One of the most interesting things I watched on the internet (hi TikTok) was an American young woman saying something like, “Men, you have to realise you’re not competing with other men; you’re competing with me”, basically saying you’re competing with her peace, her solitude etc etc. Young women are seeking peace away from violence, earning more money than ever and trying to create aesthetic spaces that represent them and young men are maybe not as visible or some are creating more harmful, misanthropic spaces?

To me it's not about how to be able to sell to people. You can think about that later. It's about societal stability, it's about the day to day lives of people and how if one gender feels out of step with the other, there will be these extreme reactions.....

He goes through handlers frequently, and today he is to meet yet another one and he spots him immediately; another anonymous European confused by a Starbucks opposite another Starbucks in the Lower East Side, chosen as it is an easy walk from where 47 has been placed for this pseudo-retirement. He knows without checking that his new handler is male, and is a beta with alpha aspirations. They all are. The ICA recruiters are weak to a certain type of man who plays that gendered game, the stereotypes of the second sex they want, rather than the one they got in the cruel deal at puberty. 

This was the hand that he was dealt, the compensation he received: a life of Beta males, rye bread, and first refusal on the best hits. The same promise, every time.

His new handler introduces himself as Tomasz, from the Lodz office. They make small talk in German as that is 47’s cover at the moment, Christoph Brennholz. 

Tomasz is politely dressed for the weather, and 47 covets his coat, last season’s Tom Ford. 

Tomasz passes the documents over, and confirms that it is his first time in New York in the fall. Is it not beautiful, Herr Brennholz, in the central park? Perhaps we could go walking there. His voice is soft, and 47 knows when he’s being cruised, however poor his grammar is. Time was he wouldn’t notice the grooming, or see it dispassionately as something to be exploited, but now he wonders if it's worth taking him up on it. 

Out of the corner of his eye, 47 sees a flash of red hair, and hears a squall in the wind that cuts through him like a knife. He is out of the shop in a flash, eyes scanning, hackles up, and then he’s knocked to the ground by a large man. The wind goes out of him, and his head hits the hard concrete of the sidewalk hard, and he goes down and watches helplessly as a pair of familiar shoes climbs into a yellow cab and speeds away. 

When he’s helped up, the cab has merged into traffic. The man, a patsy, 47 recognises him as one of Diana’s local assets, apologises profusely as Tomasz glues himself to 47’s side, hustling him into a cab.

47 is careful to not check his pockets, but he doesn’t need to to know that something has been placed there. 

He’s checked out by a doctor and given the all-clear, and then Tomasz escorts him back to the apartment. 47 puts the coffee maker on and misplaces his coat in the spare room’s wardrobe as Tomasz openly makes mental notes about him to report back to HQ. 

Afternoon comes, and with it comes the rain, and Tomasz leaves disappointed in another carefully disguised ICA car, and once he is safely gone, 47 retrieves the note from the pocket of his coat with shaking hands, and allows himself a moment of happiness as he traces the curve of her hand with his thumb.

Alright scratch that he’s a man of two faces. 

The first face is the one that led him to the Toppats in the first place. He’s a skilled conman, and an excellent gambler. He used to work at the Henry Stickmin Resort and Casino, however, he found that working at the card tables just…wasn’t enough of a thrill for him. 

Which leads to the second face, the face of a man who holds little regard for the safety of others, and is, above all else, an adrenaline junkie. 

Story:

Captain Alwhin was born on the Henry Stickmin Resort and Casino. He often joked that he was born with a deck of cards in hand, and even though he spent much of his time earthbound, he would travel to the casino as often as he could afford it. 

Which…wasn’t very often since he often lost all of his funds gambling at the casino, but as his skills grew, so did his visits. He began to stay for longer and longer, until he was finally approached by Casino staff and asked if he wanted a job.

Alwhin accepted, however, the thrill of gambling over cards quickly lost its appeal after it became his job. He became restless, wanting to regain that thrill. 

And so when he was approached by a gentleman in a top hat well…

Alwhin joined the Toppats, left his job at the Casino, and began his work back on earth. 

Eventually, Alwhin was assigned to the Submarine Art-ica, a newer branch of the Toppats that would work on sea missions. 

And it was thrilling.

However, eventually, the excitement of being a literal pirate began to die out. Alwhin grew restless, and a touch paranoid, wondering if the Toppats had sent him to sea to rot. 

It was this paranoia that led to him working with some of the other anxious grunts onboard to plot to break free from the Toppats, and make their own claim to fame in the world. 

The mutiny was a success! For a few days, then he discovered that the Toppats had known about his plan all along. And so, he began to root them out, to find out who onboard was still loyal, and…deal with them.

He got away with it too, for a while. Despite the ship falling to pieces around them, Alwhin discovered the ringleader of the Toppat infiltration, and killed him. 

Victorious, Alwhin led the Pirates back to shore, repairing the ship, and allowing those that felt sea life was no longer for them to leave. He even turned in the rest of the Toppat loyalists to the Government! Wasn’t he just so helpful?

But then, his show of good faith was betrayed, and the Government boarded the ship several weeks later, arresting the Pirates and placing them behind the sturdy bars of The Wall. 

And although he has been rotting in jail ever since, Alwhin still feels the call to the sea, waiting for his chance to break free. After all, Henry Stickmin did it once, how hard could it be?

the concept and aesthetic of NiGHTS left a huge impression on baby ica and i remember them reading a lot of like. old fandom sites that're actually still up bc we found them again ??last year?? (and they also might've had a hand in sidesystem stuff because there was a lot of semi-unreality / Potentially Alterhuman And/or Soulbond Things going on in some of those and ica latched on Hard around the same time the sidesystem started forming. it's hard to explain.)

we own Journey of Dreams but, as with most things we love, are Very Bad At It. we got stuck on a bossfight and gave up and havent touched it since. we could give it another shot seeing as we figured out how to get our wiimote to work with dolphin for replaying klonoa wii, but it's not a super high priority rn

Totally fair questions! /gen

Musicagender was coined as an umbrella for genders related to music, bands, music-related aesthetics, and other inherently music-related things, like musicals and music videos. Anything that isn’t related to at least one of those things somehow wouldn’t be a Musicagender.

The issue I’ve seen is terms that aren’t at all music related being suffixed with -ica. I still feel kind of weird about calling anyone in specific out with URLs or anything, but couple definitions for -ica terms I’ve seen are:

-A gender related to 24-cells (a type of complex shape in geometry)

-A gender related to Calvin and Hobbes

-A gender related to the sun and the cosmos

There are a ton more, but hopefully that’s enough to get the point across! /gen Essentially, the issue is terms with no relation to music or music-related things at all using the suffix! -Admin Grey

I know none of us really post to this blog a whole lot anymore (sorry for that, life just got in the way), but I’ve got something to say and this has the biggest platform of all my MOGAI/LIOM related accounts, so here I am. I should also say that I don’t exactly know how to word this post. Normally, when any of us have gotten involved in these situations in the past, there’s already been some amount of criticism of said thing before hand, so it was easy to just say “hey, [x]/[x] is wrong/what have you” and leave it at that. This time, though, I’ve never seen anyone else talk about this, and if they have, it’s very clearly not a known thing at the moment. I haven’t even seen any posts from the coiner of this suffix about it. So it feels (to me, at least) that I should do a little more and I’m not sure what that ‘more’ is/should be. 

I should also say, I don’t intend this to be a callout of any particular user/users or to cause a witch hunt or anything like that. This is just an information post to maybe avoid another -coric situation, where it it’s become so consistently misused that it almost feels like there won’t ever be a point where it completely stops. Please don’t be mean to anyone who does the thing I’m about to talk about or anything like that. If anyone would like to kindly bring their attention to the issue, go for it, but don’t be anything less than 100% civil.

With all that out of the way, the post:

There’s veen a lot of misuse of the suffix -ica, recently, and I figured someone should clear that up. And since this account has more than 1000 followers and I’ve noticed it, I figured it should be me. 

-ica is a suffix coined on November 19, 2020, by now inactive user Genderstalgia. It, along with -ical and -musica, were coined as suffixes specifically for Musicagenders. That phrase was actually used verbatim in the coining post if anyone would like to fact check me on it. It’s not a general-use, uncoined suffix, like -ic or -ian to name a few, or something like -cenic that was coing to be used for pretty much anything. It, along with its counterparts, have a very explicit, relatively narrow, meaning.

Despite that, there’s been a surge of misuse of it over the past few months to a year (the archive on here and on the site are a good bit behind, so I’m not completely up to date). Thankfully, it hasn’t gotten as vad as -coric or even -comfic, but it’s definitely an issue. To the extent that we’ve created a list for them on Genderpedia and one that has more than double digit pages, here. That page isn’t linked so anyone can go harass the coiners with terms listed there or to drive traffic to the site, it’s just to demonstrate that there is a good amount of terms that are a part of this issue. In addition to that, there are multiple terms that we haven’t archived for whatever reason (mostly just time and fluctuating dis/interest).

I don’t know what specifically I can encourage anyone do outside of a few things. Anyone who has or thinks they might have terms that misuse -ica, or any other suffix for that matter, just go check! And, if you find them, just find a different suffix! There are coined things like -cenic and, in some specific cases, -aesic, -corian, -comfin, etc. (although those last ones do have specific definitions that might not fit, so check those too) and non-coined, general things, like -ic and -ian, or even a currently-unused look-alike like -eca, -yca, or something else like that!

Also, I’d generally recommend checking to see if any kind of suffix/term ending you’ve about to use has been coined and if it would apply. I know that’s crazy hard, because of how many there are and have been coined, and scattered information, but there are some sources that can help. We have an incomplete list of affixes, here, there’s the suffixes carrd, here, and there’s the account Coiningaffixes, here.

I know, looking at the coric/comfic/etc situations, there’s no way this one post will fix everything. It’s just unrealistic to thing that.
