Call Back A Warning: Modern Day Senku

Research everything. Test everything. Replicate replicate replicate.

For most of his life, Senku had been painfully aware of how little he knew. Humanity had spent centuries and centuries compiling information, and some of it was correct, a lot of it was wrong but based on good science, and even more were wrong and based on bad science.

His life began as a game of catch up, sorting through information, figuring out what was reliable and correct, charting the mountains of progress humanity had made before he was even out of diapers.

And during that time, scientific discovery continued its relentless march forward, uncaring of whether one person understood it all.

Senku had thought he was fine with that. He could focus on both the cutting edge of science, and the historical truths that had led up to those discoveries.

He had not expected for the world to change quite so drastically in his time.

Or that he'd get a front-row seat to it.

Time travel, Xeno had confided to him, with a curious look at him.

A catastrophe of some sort, Byakuya had explained further, hugging Senku exceptionally close when he landed in America.

Thousands upon thousands of years from the future, an Ishigami Senku claimed to be calling them.

The same Ishigami Senku who was right now being let into the mission room where the Phone To The Future was installed.

"Yo." Senku tapped the microphone, "These guys are saying you're me. How aren't you completely calcified after thirty seven centuries?"

The connection was crackly as hell, but the dry laugh was unmistakable, "Funnily enough, I was petrified for most of that time." His voice, approximately a fifth of an octave lower than Senku's own, came from the speakers, "You didn't read the briefing? The mentalist worked hard on it."

"Some kind of Futurama ass shit." Senku replied with a yawn, "Of course a junk Mentalist wrote that, it sounded like a summary of a wish fulfillment power fantasy."

More laughter, "God, I was such an asshole."

"You still are!" Another voice called out from the other end.

"Shut up, man." Old-Man-Senku shoved something – probably the other speaker, "So, how about it? You're at the same level I was when the Petrification happened, so I can confidently say you can handle some robot parasites. All we need is for you to agree."

Senku thought on it carefully.

"I don't know what you're talking about. I don't even know a billionth of the things there are in the world. Just a rando really."

"And I've realized that that's what anyone is. You have a specialization for this field, though, and we could use it." Old-Man-Senku's voice was droll, "So, how about it?"

He was just fishing to see what kind of person he would hypothetically grow up to be. The answer was already decided the second he heard the situation.

"I'm gonna get to go to space, as soon as possible, right? So there wasn't a millimeter of doubt that I'd be going."

A scientist leaned over to whisper to someone behind him, "Wait, we're letting a fifteen year old onto a rocket ship???"

Post 6x09, Runaan finds Rayla as she takes care of Callum. She's changed, and he couldn't be a prouder father.

The first moment they had alone was in the dead of the night, moon high above the Nexus. It felt fitting, almost full-circle.

On his way down the hall to the library, to get parchment to send a letter to Ethari explaining what could never truly be explained, at least not fully, Runaan spotted Rayla slipping down the hall, footsteps light and quick as a true assassin's, despite how opposite of one she was, a steaming teacup on a little plate in her hands.

She looked up when she heard him, smiling a little as her low ponytail swung. "Runaan. ...Hey." She cleared her throat. "How- how are you feeling?"

He shrugged in the enormously oversized nightshirt the lumberjack human, Allen, had lent him. It was off-putting, being out of his form-fitting, safe garb, especially in this strange, unknown place he should very well have felt relaxed in- a full moon, at the Moon Nexus, but all Runaan could feel was... odd. "As good as one can, I suppose. How are you, though? How is your human? Clem- Camel? Stop me when I get it right-"

She laughed, and it wasn't a snarky one he'd grown so accustomed to. "Callum." A smile ticked her lips upwards at his name. "His name's Callum. And he's-" Rayla looked away to the wall, the little table she elected to set the tea down on, anywhere but him. "He's okay. I think. Mostly in shock. But he'll get through it." The unspoken words hung in the air, a truth both of them hated knowing: What other choice does he have?

"He's got you," Runaan offered, drawing closer. "That's pretty damn good."

She laughed again, a real, merry one, despite the bitter undertones. "Yeah. Some cuddles and tea are all I can do until morning. Bright and early, we go to Katolis." She made a face, and at least that was the same- her utter hatred of mornings.

Just like that, Runaan found himself relaxing just a little more into her presence. No longer a little girl he felt the need to protect- Well, she would always be that, his beloved daughter once he started acting like it, but someone he trusted to have his back. Even with how much she'd changed, not everything had.

"I will be up with the sun," he promised, and she looked away. That had just been one more thing setting her apart from the rest back at the Silvergrove, during training: her adamant refusal to awaken at the crack of dawn for early-morning runs and sparring.

Good. Please, let her never be like the Silvergrove, Runaan prayed now, just as he had so many moons ago with Ethari after Lain and Tiadrin left. Let her never have the hardened heart of an assassin, the only ones the community would spare the time of day. She had an out, and one look at her and Callum was enough for Runaan to know that she'd take it and never look back.

"Well, I should get this to Callum," Rayla said awkwardly, stilted, moving to take the cup, but Runaan stopped her with a gentle touch to her wrist. "Rayla, wait." Gentle, the way he'd be with Ethari. Because this was his daughter, not a member of his troupe or someone under his jurisdiction. His family.

She pursed her lips slightly and shook her loose bangs out of her eyes, and Runaan couldn't help but remember back to her parents. She was the perfect combination of them, with Lain's braids and horns, Tiadrin's nose and face shape, and her lavender eyes unique only to her. Setting her apart. "Yeah?"

He drew his hand back. "I've never seen you like this," he said, admittedly curiously.

Rayla tilted her head, questioning kindly rather than the abrasive, aggressive way she'd always done before. "Like what?"

"Giving," Runaan said, because that was the first word that came to him. Rayla had always been kind and generous and loving, no matter how she'd hated to show it. "Kind. Loving. Happy."

She took a hesitant step closer, reaching to rest her gentle, small hand on his upper arm, blinking furiously.

"It's a good look on you." He blinked his own tears away as she bit back a sob-ridden laugh. "The best one."

Rayla ducked her head, bangs swinging with the motion. "Thank you. That... It means a lot. So much."

Runaan clasped her hands, drinking the sight of his daughter in. So small physically, but larger than life. So, so loved and gorgeous, inside and out, and he was sure her human made sure she knew it, too.

"You have a beautiful heart, Rayla," he said eventually, softly. "The most gorgeous I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. My worst regret is trying to burn it away instead of nurturing it. And for that..." A hand found its way to lay over his heart, bringing a sniffling Rayla’s with it. "I am truly sorry."

"Runaan..." She shook her head, reaching up to wipe away his tears, and they were the softest fingertips Runaan could remember, his own and Ethari's so calloused and rough. And here was Rayla, giving and gentle. The daughter he'd always dreamed of but never deserved. "Don't," she said firmly. "It was my choice. My choices. I had to find my way here on my own. In the end..." She glanced back down the hall, to the closed door that the boy she loved more than life rested behind. "I like where it got me. I'm glad I'm here."

"Rayla..." Runaan tucked her hair behind her ears, pressing their foreheads together. "I don't know what it means to you, but I am so proud of you. I love you, Little Blade. You are my daughter. I only hope you'll let me be your father."

Rayla threw her arms around him, sending him stumbling back in shock, immediately holding her back. "Of course. I'd forgiven you a long time ago, Runaan. I'm so glad you're my father. You always will be. I love you."

And he'd already said it tonight, but Runaan had spent far too much time hating and killing, and not nearly enough loving. So he hugged her back, whispering, "I love you, too."

Day 3: Contortion

CONTAINS -> BODY HORROR, WEIRD LIMB ANGLES

The crowd is murmuring amongst themselves when the overhead lights begin to dim, signifying the show will start soon. The volume of the chatters gradually hush down, save for a couple of voices seated at the front row.

"Have you heard? Mime's been learning a new trick for tonight's show."

"Yea, 'course I did. Everyone's been hyping it up. I do wonder what that is..."

As if on cue, walking to the center stage is the purple deer himself. Critters couldn't suppress their cheers and applause. How could they? Posters and word of mouth made it seem that tonight's circus act is gonna be the night they won't forget!

Something... is off though. It's not the fact that he doesn't seem to have any props with him. He is a mime after all, pretending to use invisible stuffs is his talent. No, that's not it. Despite the excited exclamations of the crowd, Mime is non-reactive. The way he brings this unsettling air, walking forwards with that unfocused stare. His silence had never been this eerie and infectious until this very moment.

Tension rises as Mime takes his time to walk to that singular spotlight saved for him and only him.

Odd. He simply stands and smile to the crowd. The silently freaking out crowd.

"Is this a joke?"

One of them blurted out, unable to bare the scraping tension. This is followed by a collective variance of chuckling. Although the laughters spent are expected to alleviate the unease, the atmosphere that the deer have established remained stiff and cold.

... okay, his stillness have gone far too long that it is starting to feel silly. Maybe this is a joke. The new act for tonight is... no act! Mime seems to have done everything already to entertain them so the newest thing he could do is simply nothing.

But just as the audience begin to accept this and calm down, a bone-chilling snap echoes through the air, causing a collective gasp from the crowd. Mime's body contorts into a particularly gruesome shape. The crowd is stunned into silence, with some even gasping or screaming.

As the audience sits in awestruck silence, Mime's body contorts and twists into seemingly impossible positions, his long limbs bending and twisting in unnatural ways. The cracks and pops of his bones echo in the silent hall, but the crowd remains utterly transfixed, unable to look away from the hypnotic display of contortionism.

A few disturbed souls manage to stammer out some words of disbelief.

"T-THOSE AREN'T SUPPOSED TO BEND!"

"WHAT KIND OF ANGLE EVEN IS THAT-!?"

"SHOULD I CALL AN AMBULANCE???"

Violently, he bends backwards, his hind legs and arms folding into knots that would break any normal deer. Screams shatter the deafening barrier. Audiences collectively wince seeing his head rotates mechanically to the full range of his neck.

Squeamish. Revolted. Sickish. and Restless.

These words barely convey the intensity of their feelings seeing the erratic movement of Mime.

Mime pauses and turns to face the crowd with a terrifying grin. His eyes gleam in the darkness, filled with a cunning glint unlike anything they've ever seen before.

After an uneasy silence, Mime suddenly stops moving altogether, leaving the audience in a state of panic. The crowd begins to push and shove each other, struggling to get away from the scene.

As they make their way out of the chamber, the audience is met with a chilling realization: that smile made this night something they will never forget.

yeah my bad, honestly forgot that he was half asian (I have not interacted w the show or fandom in a while, so thats on me tbh), but I definitely agree with your input. I know that Callum is the main character, so he’s going to get more love and attention, same as Rayla, especially since Rayllum is the main couple (not dissing on them or the ship ofc) but it really upsets me when I look for art/fics of Ezran he’s either A) with Callum or B) in the background of something Rayllum related and in fics i rarely ever see solo fics of just him, he’s either in the background of rayllum or being their therapist or something like that

TDP has done a good job when it comes to portraying their characters of color, and its nice to see POC in positions of power for once (Harrow, Ez, Janai, Anaya, Kasef, etc), I just wish that the fandom as a whole would do the same thing yknow?

I’ll get out of your askbox for now, but this was definitely something that was weighing on me for a while lol

Omg you're all good! That's actually why I've run two Ezran Appreciation Weeks (although I still need to finish my fics for the second one, but life got unexpectedly super busy) and why I use the tag Ezran centric for fics that well, focus primarily on him and his relationships, rather than him being in a supportive or background role. I still wanna write a fic about him and Janai (maybe I can work it into a speculative S5 piece, since it seems like maybe we'll get to see them on screen together, and they had a Lot of parallels in S4).

But yeah there are definitely people in the fandom who aren't open to critique in how they treat Ezran. I once pointed out that hey, most of the time when his character is incorrectly tagged in a post, it's almost always in relation to his brother. Did not go over well, but I don't really care. It was still worth saying (and hopefully people will think a bit more thoughtfully about it too).

We could definitely all do more; I do my best to put dents in it when I can, but with varying degrees of success I'm sure

Thin clouds hung, and dim colors of the stars covered the ebony canvas. Sitting so close, the colonel’s head rested comfortably on Ron’s shoulder.

Make a wish, huh? The chocolate haired man closed his azure eyes.

“What’s your wish, Ron?”

Pause for a moment, before a smile came back on his handsome face. “I want a long vacation, Sir. How about you?”

Hsu chuckled, grabbing Ron’s hand to hook their fingers. Suitable. Warm. Perfect. “I want this campaign to finish quickly, then I can go back to San Francisco.” Oh. Classic wish, to return alive to a figure named family. “But you have to come with me!”

There was a feeling of indescribable tightness in his lungs. Lips kissed the top of his head without a military beret. “Yes, I’ll come with you.”

Five Times - Chapter 06 Dinner Time

Summary:  Five times Ibis interrupts Callum and Rayla (and the one time he doesn't)

It’s Callum’s turn to cook tonight, which means it is also Rayla’s turn.

It’s not that Callum cannot cook. He’s just never had call to. If he even wanted something as simple as a sandwich one of the cooks would shoo him away and make it for him.

Of course, Rayla teases him about it.

Like she teases him about everything.

The provisions at the Storm Spire are pretty simple and no-one expects a feast. Still, Callum’s first attempt was a pretty dismal failure, so he is grateful for any help.

Rayla insists on chopping the vegetables after Callum nearly took off his finger last time. She’s much quicker and more efficient at it so he doesn’t object.

He is in charge of seasoning the meat. He’s sniffing the various spices and reading over the recipe.

“Do you need help with that?” She means the instructions. Though they were written in Elven, he has been a quick study.

“No, I’m just comparing.” He takes two jars and sniffs both in tandem.

“What are you doin’?” She abandons chopping and wipes her hands on her apron, strolling over to him.

“Just… experimenting.” He holds the jars before her face. “These two go together well, I think.”

Rayla gently pushes the jars away. “This is what… your third time cookin’? No experimentin’.” She narrows her eyes at him, poking him in the arm.

“Maybe I’m a culinary genius who’s never had a chance to show his skills.” He teases, putting the jars on the bench and playfully tugging on her apron.

“Oh really?” She slips her hands around his back, pulling him closer.

“Yeah.” He smirks. “There’s a few things I’ve only picked up recently that I think I’m pretty good at.”

“Uh huh.” She blushes, grinning. “What sorts of things?”

“Oh, you know… magic. Flying.” He leans forward. “This.” He kisses her as she laughs.

“Yeah, you’re ok at this.” Her hands snake up his back. “But perhaps we should practice more… just to be sure.”

He wraps his arms around her slender waist. “Well, if you insist.”

She sighs softly as he leans into the kiss. Rayla still struggles with articulating how she feels but Callum has no complaints about how demonstrative she is with her affections.

“DING DING DING DING DING!” Soren bursts through the door. “DINNER TI-”

They jump apart, both breathless.

“Whaaaaaaa?!” Soren gapes at them. “Were you just making out?!”

Tact will never be Soren’s strong point.

Callum feels his face burn. “Well… yeah.”  

“WHAT?!” Soren looks back and forth between Callum and Rayla.

“Eh… is this news to you?” She sounds incredulous as she waves her hand between them.

“Yes?!” The tall blond looks at them like they are crazy. “This will be news to everyone.”

It was Callum’s turn to look at someone like they were demented. “This… is not news. To anyone.”

“Eh, I think you’ll find it is, Callum.” Soren looks at them smugly, folding his arms.

“It’s really not.” Rayla was starting to lose her embarrassment and Callum sees a smirk on her lips.

“Does your aunt know? Ezran?!” Soren asks accusingly.

“Yes! I... how did you not know?” Callum asks bewildered.

“I thought you guys were just really close friends!”

Rayla rolled her eyes, sniggering.

“So, you jump off cliffs for your friends then?” Callum asks, sarcastically.

“Hey, camaraderie in the army is a thing, Callum!” Soren is getting defensive. “Anyway, you said you only liked Rayla as a friend.”

“What?!” It was Callum's turn to be incredulous. “No, I didn’t!” He glances over at Rayla to gauge her reaction before turning his attention back to Soren.

“Yes, you did!” Soren explained slowly. “When you were on your date with Claudia, she specifically asked you if something was going on with you guys and you told her you didn’t think of Rayla that way.” He took a breath. “That she was just your assassin friend.”

“I- eh, that’s...” Callum struggles for words. “That was ages ago.”

“That was like a month ago, Callum.” Soren corrects him.

“Maybe but, you know... A lot happened in that month.” Callum glances over at Rayla, a concerned look on his face.

“Oh... oh no.” Soren begins to look guilty. “So, you guys really are a thing? Wow... eh, I mean Rayla... I’m sure what Callum meant was, eh...” He and Callum share a desperate look.

Rayla throws a washcloth, hitting Soren smack in the face. “Go away, Soren.”

“Yeah, ok. I’ll just, I’ll just, you know... I’ll just go. Leave you guys to dinner and eh,... whatever it was... you were... doing... before, you know...” He turns and hastily slips through the door.

Callum is turning to Rayla when he pops his head back in.

“Though I must say... I am loving this." He gestures between the two of them.

“Out!" Rayla somehow finds another dish cloth and takes aim.

Soren ducks out before she can launch.

“Haha, so eh, Soren?” Callum laughs nervously.

“Just your assassin friend, am I?” Rayla, rests a hand on her hip and raises an eyebrow.

Callum bites his lip. “I mean, like I said… that was ages ago and things have changed so much since then.” He reaches out to her, but she turns before he can reach her, going back to inspect her vegetables.

Callum winces.

Stupid Soren.

“Rayla, I’m sorry. We’d only really just met when… eh, that came up and I obviously feel completely differently about you now.” He leans forward, trying to catch her eye.

She is making a face in an attempt to hold back laughter.

“You’re not mad.” Callum accuses.

Rayla rolls her eyes and grins at him. “No. I thought you were a dumb human back then anyway.”

“Na, I reckon you thought I was cute back then.” He pokes her in the side.

Rayla blushes as she grabs his finger. “I did not.”

“Well, when then?” Callum can feel his face light up too. When Rayla ignores him and got back to cutting vegetables, he continues on his own. “It must have been before the desert when you-”

She pokes him in the arm again. “What did I tell you about that?”

Callum looks at her confused. “What?”

“We are never discussing that!” She glares at him with wide eyes.

Callum laughs at her. “Even now?!”

“Never. Ever.” She tries to keep a serious look on her face, but he can see the beginnings of a smile in her eyes.

“Well, what are you going to do if I decide to keep talk-”

He is cut off by her lips on his. He grins into the kiss, slipping his arms around her once again.

“You are so annoying.” She mumbles against his mouth.

Callum smiles as she pulls him closer, deepening the kiss.

“Ok guys, seriously. I’m not looking but how much longer until dinner?”

Callum looks around to find Soren’s head in the door, his hand over his eyes.

“GET OUT, SOREN!” They yell in unison.

Hi there! I was wondering if you could possibly recommend some of your favorite Thorki and Hiddlesworth fics, if you can.

Sigh, I’m a horrible horrible person, I haven’t read enough Thorki fics to be able to recommend any, just busy with my own headcanons and real life shit. T__T (I can only point you to my own Hiddlesworth/Thorki ficlets on AO3 if you haven’t seen them already.) I’ve been meaning to read “His scarlet ibis” as suggested by another anon ask but haven’t got around to it yet (I will answer that one asap).

I would rather redirect you to Thorduna and booksnchocolate who seem to be the experts here.

INSTEAD I could show you “recommended fanart” from the days of yore, that is Thor/Avengers/Dark World fanart that I collected back then, romantic/foreplay/smutty stuff, and I’m sure the old artists need a little appreciation.

If anyone is interested do let me know, I’ll try to find the artists themselves and credit them.

"Mr. Ishigami? Your son's here to see you." Someone called over the PA.

Byakuya jumped up excitedly. It felt like years and years since he'd seen his talented prodigy son!

"I swear it was just a week since he last came by. You think he ran out of money that fast?" Another scientist asked, "You gotta get him under control, Byakuya."

"At least he's talking to me!" Byakuya laughed, a little too forced, "Most of the time, he's more interested in his experiments than his father."

"...That's kinda sad, man."

"You don't understand us!" Byakuya replied, hurrying outside to meet him. He was ready for a lot of things. Another failed rocket launch. A complaint from the school. Maybe a visit from the police about either the truancy or the rockets. Twelve years of raising Senku prepared you for a lot.

It didn't prepare him for the look on Senku's face when he saw Byakuya. All wide-eyed and haunted.

Usually, when he got into those moods, there was no way to get him to talk about what was bugging him. But this time, just seconds in, Senku blurted it out himself.

"You know I love you, right?"

"Huh?" Byakuya blinked, taken aback by the blunt way he said it, completely unlike the Senku he thought he knew, "Of course I know that, silly! What's brought this on? "

Senku's mouth twitched, "I just- wanted to make sure you knew. Otherwise I might regret that for thirty seven hundred years."

That was strange. Had he moved on from the ten billion number?

"This," Speed pinched the bridge of his nose, "Is my younger brother Billy."

Wally stared at the boy in front of him, virtually identical to Speed in every way, except his hair was dark brown. He looked a bit taller, too, but that was mostly because of how he didn't slouch like his brother.

Billy rolled his eyes at Speed, "We're twins." He gestured with his arm, and that movement made Wally realize the hoodie he was wearing wasn't a normal galaxy patterned fabric. It was shifting around, as if reflecting actual stars from the night sky.

As if noticing his stares, Billy grinned, "Like it? It's connected to a galaxy back home. Where I'm taking this guy back to."

"Billy can manipulate reality." Speed explained to Wally off-handedly, "And why are you even here? No calls for months, and suddenly you're worried about me again?"

They were going to argue more, Wally was sure of it, but before they could, he blurted out: "I know that maybe Captain Marvel has probably given me the wrong impression, but all Billys are just like this, huh?"

Billy and Speed looked at each other, nonplussed, "What?"

Meanwhile, With Tommy... (+A Ms Marvel Show Tie-in)

He was Thomas Shepherd. All the documents said he was Thomas Shepherd, so he had to be.

But then why did that last name sit so wrong? What was it supposed to be? It was on the tip of his tongue, if he just concentrated a little harder-

The guy in the cell next to him rammed into the wall separating them with a scream loud enough to break Tommy's concentration. Fucking asshole.

Guess it didn't matter what he was or wasn't, anyway. He was still going to be stuck in this godforsaken place.

Tommy didn't want to say he hadn't done anything to deserve being put here. They found him in the epicenter of a massive explosion, as the sole survivor, with no memories whatsoever. Yeah, people were going to have questions.

It just so happened that Tommy didn't have answers to those questions, because he had no memories whatsoever.

The cops seemed to get this eventually, and he'd been... Wherever this was.

The wrong place. Tommy was sure of it. He wasn't meant to be here.

Where was he meant to be?

Well, there was this tug that he carried with him. His own personal compass, like an invisible thread yanking him to a place he was unable to go. Not with these bars in the way. And especially the cuffs.

He was hella fast, it turned out. And not the fun kind of fast. The type of fast that made things blow up. The type of fast that society didn't need.

The knock against the wall this time was more intentional. There was something about the force behind it that clued Tommy in. Other guy had real anger management issues. The stabby type, apparently.

But since his tantrum had abated, Tommy knocked back.

Other Guy had snuck Tommy a code to a knock cipher, before the guards realized his shiny crystal things could sneak through the bars on the cell door's window and barred it. It was tedious as fuck, but also the only conversation he ever got that didn't involve also being electrocuted and following instructions like a lab rat.

I've been disguising my advancing control, Other Guy reported. And then, seemingly unrelated: Note that we seem to be the only ones here?

What about it? he responded, having noticed that too. Seemed that superpowered people that have been deemed public menaces but not bad enough for the Raft were in short supply.

There'd been a bunch more. Triple the current population, which wasn't much. They were from Other Guy's party, if he was remembering the gossip right. Escaped and left him bleeding out on the stairs.

The next series of taps took a long time to finish.

It wouldn't feel right, leaving anyone behind. But if you're sure it's just you and me, then I think we can try a break for freedom. Not sure where we would go, though.

Freedom? Tommy didn't even remember what that was supposed to look like. But the feeling tugging in his gut flared, and the direction remained constant, no matter which room he was moved to, or where he faced. Everything went back to that one point.

I think I know a place, he finally told Other Guy

When they punched through the outer wall, they were met with dirt. Other Guy was thinking things through, as he activated his turquoise crystals to burrow through the ground into a perfect tunnel.

"Great, now let's get out, out, out!" Tommy grabbed him by the shoulder and slipped into superspeed.

They were laughing hysterically when the tunnel finally came out onto an honest-to-god meadow, with sunlight streaming in, and no walls in sight. Just fences, a house a little ways away.

"So, where's this place you had in mind?" Other Guy asked.

"Uhh... straight shot this way," Tommy recalibrated himself to his own true North. "Gonna be a bit of a walk."

"About time I got to stretch my legs," Other Guy shrugged, strolling in the direction Tommy had pointed out.

They were walking shoulder to shoulder ffor several minutes when Other Guy smacked his forehead, "I completely forgot to introduce myself! And after all the time we've known each other. I'm Kamran."

"Tommy..." he took his proferred hand, and the word dangling on the tip of his tongue finally came loose. "Maximoff."

[Based off my prediction that the DODC detainment facility the Clandestines were kept in is where Tommy is being kept like in the comics. Sequel ficlet incoming of these two showing up at the Kaplan house while Billy is doing his part in AAA]

Call Back A Warning AU

"Which branch of the US military did you say you were again?" Ukyo asked, timidly.

The man sitting across from him with his spine deadly straight stared him down, "Special Forces." He repeated what he had briskly said when they first met.

"Yeah, but is that like the Marines, or...?" Ukyo fumbled for an answer Stanley Snyder was not benevolent enough to give him. Okay then.

Everything about this was strange. A random Japanese sonar operator wasn't reassigned to a top-secret project that multiple nations were cooperating on. Not without much drilling and warning.

Yet he had received none of that. Just a rushed verbal handover. And now he was in the care of this crack team of soldiers, flying to Houston, Texas.

A landlocked city was a strange place to require a sonar operator's presence. So it definitely had to do with something that Ukyo might be able to do for them.

"Any briefing you need to get done?" He asked, hopefully.

Snyder looked away, "I don't think I'm cleared to talk about it."

It was when they made landfall that he finally got more context than what his anxiety-filled nerves cooked up.

"Ah, the second General, brilliant!" A man with a white pompadour greeted him the second Ukyo walked out of the jet.

"I'm just enlisted..." Ukyo tried to correct, only to be cut off.

"Not what I meant. I'm sure Stan didn't think of explaining the situation to you?" The man asked, pulling out a briefcase, "We would've taken more time, but once he made landfall and located you, things got more dire."

He opened the case to reveal a stone statue of a swallow. Ukyo remembered a picture of a whole flock left decorating a tree on his feed in the one second he got to check his phone.

"This is a warning shot." The scientist explained, cryptically.

And then, much less cryptically: "We want you to go to space."

"What." His ears had apparently chosen this exact moment to fail him.

"You'll be accompanied by a student of mine, and a young man I'm assured has remarkable instincts that we are currently trying to contact. We'll explain more at the JSC, but time is running drastically short-" The man continued to talk.

"Xeno, you can't just spill state secrets in the open like this." Snyder frowned, guiding Ukyo along into an SUV anyway.

"Please, Stan, anyone with working braincells can piece together that these are real birds." Xeno scoffed, "And the radio transmission from the future? It doesn't belong to the state."

Snyder had the gall to laugh for the first time since Ukyo had met him, "Alright, you fucking commie. Kid, any pressing questions you wanna ask?"

"You know there's a difference between a submarine and a spaceship, right?" Was his first, panic-stricken question. Before he cringed and backtracked, "Also. Everything. I need to know everything. Been underwater for a really long time."

Part 2 of my DCST Time Travel Snippets

"Lemme get this straight. To stop this impending doom, you want us to build a spaceship that will take a small crew just past the Moon. Where they will then negotiate with parasitic alien robots and convince them that humanity is stupid and not worth being frozen into stone." Markus, one of the oldest scientists at NASA, surmised. He sounded incredibly tired.

Everything the people from the future told them was tiring.

"Pretty much." Dr Xeno from the future said, "It's a big ask, I realize. And a lot of lives depend on it."

"Who would we trust with such a mission, though?" Another NASA scientist asked, "There's a lot of factors to take into account. Personality, and training, and there's not enough time to conduct proper astronaut qualification exams for the wider public."

"Good point." Dr Xeno allowed.

"Ah, how about you get your version of the Five Wise Generals to go?" Brody, the future's top mechanic laughed, "They'll all be little babies now, so we'll knock off a couple hundred kilograms from the weight limit."

"I don't think we can have infants piloting a rocket and saving humanity." One of their current day scientists sighed. It was weird to think that a group of people called the Five Wise Generals were currently babies.

"No, no, you misunderstand. They should be fifteen at the youngest. Twenty four at the oldest." Xeno clarified, "And one of them won't exist until thirty seven hundred years, so right now, it's more like the Four Wise Generals. But I agree with Dr. Brody, except for my Stan, there's no one I'd recommend more. Byakuya Ishigami's an option, but I also don't trust him enough to not launch into a passionate speech about all the good humanity has done."

Byakuya Ishigami. He was a newbie astronaut, just inducted into the program. Normally, such love for humankind was admirable but...

"Brief us on these Generals." He decided. Just to have that option.

First was Senku Ishigami, the man who had made the first phonecall to the past. The son of Byakuya Ishigami. So far, they had avoided looking up the kid in the modern world.

Currently, he was fifteen years old, and a high school student. With a criminal record of setting off bombs in public parks.

"Oh, yeah. He likes making rockets." Xeno from current day confirmed blandly, "I had no idea he was setting them off in parks."

He was definitely lying.

"But you'll let me go to space without me having to build my own rocket, right?" A high-pitched voice asked. A boy with the wildest hair was suddenly standing in the control room.

"How'd you get in here?!"

"Xeno and my dad kept me updated on the situation here." He picked at his ear, "I couldn't care a millimeter less about the situation here now that we've figured out the secret behind the stone swallows. I just want to go to space. As soon as possible."

He vibrated slightly as he spoke, clearly excited, but hiding it well.

Second on the list, Asagiri Gen.

Nineteen years old, and a... moderately famous stage magician.

"Doesn't look like he has the muscle for a space trip."

"What good's a mentalist? We can drill anyone into saying things."

And so, Asagiri Gen was overlooked.

Somewhere in the world, a magician with two-toned hair was very offended.

Next was Ryusui Nanami, one of the Nanami Conglomerate's CEO's brood. A bit of a disgraced one, because of a dramatic love affair, but given the same allowance that any of the others got.

At 20 years of age, he had the biggest and most diverse collection of sailboats in the world. The kid was a dedicated adventurer, with all the health that came from it.

They could use that.

"Ryusui Nanami." An escort of suited officials approached him on a beach.
