and what is a maritime vacation without a doodling sesh with @rhinocio and co? (even if much of my Top Secret Work was concealed in my lap most of the time)
if i had ONE takeaway from these past couple weeks - you know, other than how privileged and special it is and I am to be a part of my friends' lives!! - it's Don't Touch The Black Rocks at Peggy's Cove They Will Kill You Dead to Death (if the locals don't get you first).

Remember that episode when Sealand posed as Canada, and got busted by England?
Tumblr media
So I drew that with Yukon and Sask, for no other reason than for laughs. No other context!
I also got inspired by a certain scene from Prisoner of Azkaban, too.

Who are your favourite characters in the IAMP? Mine are NB, NS, PEI, Newfoundland, BC, Saskatchewan, Yukon, NWT and Nunavut.
Tumblr media
While I love all the characters my favourites have to be ONT, MAN & QUE. So the centrals!

HETALIA - PROJECTCANADA: 150th Canada!
You can view a larger version here: [link]
This came way too late but here it is! Three days, drawing on a large A3 paper with a pencil and fine-line markers. (This is going to be a pain to colour)
This is Matthew with his 13 Provinces from the IAMP/Projectcanada.  (Provinces are created by @ctcsherry )
There are a few things I like to say…
Flags and it’s a bad idea to draw them so tiny.
Drawing the Territories flags:
Me: Why must they be so detalied..? At least Yukon’s flag has a pupper
Drawing the Maritimes…
Me: AAARGH I STAND CORRECTED! PEI AND NB WHY?!
Drawing British Columbia’s
Me: cries
Also I added in the flowers because they looked a bit plain without them.

I got to visit Whitehorse last summer.
When I lived back east, it was about a day’s drive to get to Montreal. I knew it was an old city—older than anything else I’d seen—and tried to press as much of it into my memory as possible, saving the smell of rain on the cobblestones and the sounds of piano from a third-story apartment for my next murky Connecticut day.
Living on the west coast kind of sucks. The weather never changes. Back in August, my mother got some ticket discount from Alaska Airlines. I convinced her to book a trip north. It was always our inside joke that I wanted to see Whitehorse, a tiny industrial town in the middle of nowhere. We spent a few days in Alaska and drove over the mountains to Yukon. As we reached 6,000 feet, my water bottle burst open and soaked the carpeting in our rental car.
We stayed at a sled-dog lodge a few miles outside the city, down two kilometers of unpaved and unmarked road. We spent a few days hiking and visiting museums and admiring the plant life. I was recovering from a head cold that hit the morning we flew out, aggravated by the chilly, damp Alaskan summer. It was weird to finally realize I dream I’d had since sixth grade.
That was the year I emerged from my childhood cocoon. Looking back, it’s the watershed moment when I began to use the internet and uncover the world in earnest. I don’t remember how I found Project Canada, then called the IAMP. I think Yukon was my favorite character, even back then. Nascent admiration for butch gals, I guess. Actually, my trip north wasn’t even the first time I’d gotten my family to visit Canada because of something in the IAMP. The summer between sixth and seventh grade I convinced my parents to see more of Eastern Canada. We did a multi-week tour of the maritimes, driving from one side of Newfoundland to the other in our packed minivan.
I’ll never forget Belle Isle, or Lanse-aux-Meadows, or the iceberg in St. John’s harbor. I’ll never forget picking bakeapples as we made our way along the boardwalks, or the furious winds at North America’s most eastern point. I’ll never forget the majesty of the fjords, like something out of a Decemberists’ song, or the taste of cod cheeks and pineapple crush (which I still haven’t found outside Newf).
Thank you, Project Canada, for making my world a little bit bigger.

October Challenge 29: Clothes Sharing
Marie was one of the most competent sailors the coastline of Canada had ever known. She brought her work back home with her in the antique lighthouse-turned home. It was form after function, with every room built to accommodate the winding staircase and care for the light at the peak. Kate appreciated it, immensely.
More than anything, Marie considered herself a woman and acted accordingly. Nautical was incorporated in delicate chackies, in pastel blues and greens, all of it incredibly themey and adorable. That Kate didn't appreciate anywhere near as much, and she sat on the blue and white chevron sofa and tried to ignore the multitude of anchors, shells, and nautical insignias.
"How do you like it?" Marie asked, happily, as she came down with an armload of dresses. "Another touch or two and it'll be perfect."
"This must have taken a lot of work," Kate said honestly.
"Tons, but it's going to be worth it!" She beamed as she put the load down. "Adorable, right?"
"Very." Kate eyed the clothes. "Nothing too fancy, right?"
"Well, you said it was just a picnic. Can't risk something too nice getting grass stains."
"Guess that's true."
"Right, then, so just a sundress. Add some nice sandals and you'll be fine."
"Do we need to try on a dozen, then?"
Marie pouted. "There's only six!"
"Right..." Kate put on the best smile she could manage. "Well, let's get started."
Marie beamed back. "Right, this pink one first!"
Kate looked around at every adorable thing that surrounded her. "Yeah, the pink one."

in true canadian fashion: sorry i'm late
although, in some ways, i'm actually early. You know what I realized doing this ambitious painting? this year is going to be the 15th anniversary of IAMP.
The call for auditions was uploaded September 22, 2009, and if I recall correctly my audition as artist and VA was accepted around October or November of that same year. I've grown a lot as an artist and as a person in that long time and for some weird reason I just can't let these guys go.
anyway, thanks for everyone who participated in the roulette, I know it doesn't seem like a big deal but I really struggle drawing all of these guys without losing steam. it really helped! especially since I don't do a lot of gouache work and I second guessed myself a lot. It warms my heart a little to see you guys engaged in this silly game.
what else is there to say. oh yeah, I put two types of maple leafs. the stereotypical sugar maple is in the upper right of course, but I also put a manitoba maple in the lower left because that's the kind of maple I'm most familar with where I'm from. it's long been my mission to bring the western rep in whatever I do, so it's kind of my love letter signature to my own constantly changing understanding of Who Am I and Where Am I From.
anyway. enjoy :) i enjoyed making it. thanks to ctcsherry for creating these guys

i decided to open a new blank doc to go at the ruperts land thing from a different angle just for fun and i’m already suffering from scope creep because. yknow. balancing characters all with their own unique histories that i could go super in depth on each but that’s not the point.
so for the sake of avoiding scope creep lets establish what this is and isn’t if i actually ever do bother to do anything about it
- dominion day was about the founding four provinces that Did join confederation AND the two that did Not; likewise ruperts land is about the provinces and territories that came out of the nwt (3 in the 19th century, 3 in the 20th)
- so, back in iamp the ruperts land fam was treated as siblings even though they were never established as such by sherry. this treatment bothers me for a lot of reasons and it’s not a reading that i bring with me because i just feel like its an extension of the Canadian tm view of a place that was full of very different people lumped together for convenience and colonization. i do treat them like found family, sure, but they are ambiguously related because again its. a Lot of different people and cultures that kind of are treated in canadian history as “land we Wanted and land we don’t care about but need to have or else”
- the reason i bring that up is that in nwt’s bio she’s referred to as everyone’s big sister, and you could take that in a literal or a metaphorical sense. i Personally like the idea that part of her character arc was being alone and independent since ‘birth’ and then her like. mellowing out and learning to actually take care of others as she encountered them. so her relationship with NT is completely different from how the others remember her growing up lol, with nunny she is like you’re sure you’re ok? are you eating enough at home? and yukon starts talking about how when she was growing up it was just nonstop chores and occasionally fighting lol.
- i think the central focus of this story is how nwt is hella ambiguous, i don’t think she came into the world knowing who her people were, she knew that there were people like her but they already had meaning. so it’s kind of the story of her getting definition (mostly from others but i think she finds herself too)
- like its also obviously the story of the others but mostly its about her. and how. right after all the drama and politics of dominion day. she was literally. bought. and the others just appeared as part of the package deal. and that sets the tone for all of western and northern canadian politics up to now, and a particularly big elephant in the room is the numbered treaties.
- ALL THIS SAID i know i have a tendency to lose sight of the big picture because i am so invested in this history and its somewhat personal to me so i need to not do a deep dive. i have to sort of imagine it from an outsider perspective too, so the next thing i need to decide is how to tell the story and what questions to answer and what questions that just get hinted at or asked without being directly addressed. one of the smaller ones that still is pretty big is what is the difference between a province and a territory, and while i want to be cynical about it i guess that’s really the root of the story im telling at the end of the day
- i was initially going to do it chronologically and pick up from where i left off with dd but it occurred to me it would actually make more sense to bookend it with more contemporary history, because again Nunny’s relationship with confederation is also entirely different from the rest of rupert’s land. so really i’m also structuring it around her too.
- anyway that’s enough rambling for now shout if you have questions and i’ll do my best to answer. none of this is or should be considered Canon it’s just how i personally view the history so [radical guitar solo] nothing matters! :)

best girl yukon making some fireweed tea hell yeah
i grew up with fireweed in my yard but I didn't know you could make tea out of it until I was an adult. I keep trying to steal some to plant but I haven't had success yet, so this year I got some seeds from a swap that I'm starting indoors (along with some other things that are notorious for spreading haha) (I won't rest until I eradicate my lawn).
Anyway, I think you can make a tea out of both the leaves and the flowers, so it'll be fun to try.
