This is I11: Needle (1987), a reworked tournament module by Frank Mentzer. It features pregenerated characters named the Ghost, Blaze, Finder, Blondy, Slim and Smiley. There is at least one stealth Star Wars quote. The players need to go into a jungle to get a weird obelisk, haul the thing back, then explore the moon the obelisk teleports them too. The first part is a pretty typical hex crawl, albeit punctuated with puzzles and high strangeness. The third part is a dungeon crawl. The dungeon crawl sure is odd (it ends with a confrontation with “Tiamat” and no, I am not going to explain that further) but it is the middle part that I think is the most interesting.

The middle part is the hauling of the obelisk back to the king who wanted it found (its not an obelisk, its actually a gigantic piece of tech). This is sort of a nightmare logistical puzzle, involving lots of NPCs sailing to the obelisk, taking it down, packing it up and hauling it back. Things need to be built. Like roads. And a raft (the thing is hollow and will float). That means lumber. Which means upsetting the natives, who are bullywugs and grippli, locked in rivalry with each other. The whole thing plays out across two months of daily events, which feels like a novel sort of slog. I’d definitely enjoy playing this — there are all sorts of opportunities for things to just go entirely off the rails.

Clyde Caldwell cover art. I don’t love it, but I honestly think that is because it was recycled for the 2E Rogues Gallery, a book I loathe. The interiors are by Doug Chaffee, who I don’t know. They feel like run of the mill late-‘80s D&D illustrations.

Kinako for sure! She's one of the sweetest characters in the series imo and I mean just look at her :))

For those who don't know, Inazuma Eleven is an anime about middle schoolers playing supernatural soccer and Kinako is a character in the Chrono Stone season where they have to travel through time to save soccer. The protagonists are being helped out by a guy named Fei, and time travel to different eras to unite the greatest team ever. What does Kinako have to do in this? She appeared out of nowhere one day, saying she was the ace striker of the team in the current era (despite being a defender, but she's good!) and although her and Fei don't look really alike, she's his mom.

Kinako was asked by her future husband to go help out her son, Fei, who was with the protagonists in their timeline when she was like, in the first year of middle school. She travels through a multitude of eras with the team, always contributing despite ⚠️spoilers for the Chrono Stone ending⚠️ knowing she'll eventually die giving birth of her own son. She's like doomed by the narrative but she's still so sweet :( <3 Fei has crazy abandonment issues because after she died her husband abandoned him etc. and even if I don't like that in some instances she defends him, she's still something like 13 when she's put under all of this psychological pressure. This said, I love her very much and I hope she makes to the next round as I see it's already round 3 :)) She's an important figure in this season and the way she deeply cares for her son despite everything makes my heart melt every time, especially in the last scene where she's visited by Fei from the future and they see each other for the last time before she dies. They're so important to me </3

Her name and her special techniques revolve around mochi (Kinako from kinako mochi/her techniques are called "Mochimochi Kinako Mochi" and "Yakimochi Screw") which is a cute thing. And at some point she's summons a spirit that's basically a goddess. This got longer than I wanted it to be, but I guess I love Kinako this much then haha, if you got here then thank you and consider voting for her!! :)

Firepit

The village buzzed with life as the sun dipped below the horizon, casting golden hues over the joyous crowd. Lanterns swung from bamboo poles, their warm glow illuminating the celebration. Laughter and music filled the air as villagers danced and shared stories of bravery and resilience. Kohaku stood on the edge of the festivities, a rare smile tugging at his lips as he watched the scene unfold. Tonight, for the first time in what felt like ages, the weight on his shoulders had lifted.

The battle against the demon had been grueling, but together, they had prevailed. Kohaku’s gaze drifted to Core, who sat near a firepit surrounded by villagers eager to hear his recounting of the fight. Core's hair shimmered in the firelight, and his eyes sparkled with warmth as he humored the villagers with his modesty, brushing off their praises with a shy chuckle.

Kohaku couldn't help but feel a swell of pride. Core had been instrumental in the battle yet there he sat, as humble as ever, more interested in ensuring the children by the fire had enough snacks than basking in the glory of their victory.

Kohaku glanced at the cup of warm sake in his hands, then back at Core. He suddenly had an idea. With quiet determination, he approached the communal table where villagers had laid out drinks and food. He selected a small clay cup and filled it with his favorite tea—fragrant and calming, a sharp contrast to the chaos they’d endured earlier in the day. Balancing the two cups, Kohaku weaved through the crowd toward the firepit.

The villagers fell silent for a moment, their curiosity piqued as the young demon slayer extended the cup toward his boyfriend.

“For you,” Kohaku said softly, his voice nearly drowned out by the crackle of the fire. His ears flushed a deep red, but he didn’t look away.

Inazuma Japan & The Horned Owls vs. the language barrier

this post was born from a need for language struggles in the 3rd i11 season, and also from how finnish and japanese have a weird overlap while being so vastly different. (Most of the owls have not too much trouble with basic communication in english since it's taught here from early on, and while IJ doesn't do as well, I think Kidou has the best language skills so he'd do the most talking at first)

explaining the jokes n stuff under cut!

first comic:

"Tobitakapuoli" is a mix of Tobitaka and takapuoli, which means backside or a butt in finnish. Valokainen says "I wonder if he has a good butt" but the word for butt is the one mixed with Tobitaka.

(Valokainen is a man of dumb word plays)(like I am)(a friend asked if he's my self-insert and I wasn't able to fully deny)

I dunno if it's common but at least I like to mash up words in odd places, like adding another word to make a single word into a compound word. but I know for a fact it's a common thing to make twisted words, where you have two words and switch up a few of the first letters in both, to make the meaning totally different while the words still sound the same (ruskaa pakkaseen -> paskaa rukkaseen). most of these are really pervy or just plain poop jokes, but the joke lies in that you don't say the twisted version... everyone just knows.

also! even though finnish and japanese are pretty far from each other as languages, there are many words that are in both languages, but have different meanings. that "taka" is one, but also words like hana, kasa, hai, toki, kakka (heh)

second comic:

even if finnish and japanese sound kinda similar in many ways, there's letters and sounds that don't really exist in the other. like the finnish "ti", with a hard T (if you put "talitintti" in ggl translate and read it out as finnish, you can hear how tintti is aprox. pronounced) but in japanese they would pronounce it with ち (chi), making tintti something like chinchi...

.....and yeah chinchin is penis in japanese and that's the joke *bows and escapes from the stage*

I keep seeing a lot of “Clone High” posts from you and ships invoking real historical figures.

Uno. Is that related to clone high or is you shipping brain beyond our understanding?

Dos. What is Clone High and is it worth watching/playing?

Yes, any mention of historical figues is 98% related to Clone High stuff, which is an adult cartoon about Clones of historical figures in High school, so I'm not really talking about or shipping the actual historical figures but rather clones of them. Not interested in Historical RPF either~

The other 2% is divided in references to other media that has mention of historical figures in varying degrees of accuracy (Fate, Inazuma Eleven, Zamba) and just mentions of the real people in real events which can happen from time to time

And now the million dollar question, if Clone High is worth watching HMMMMMMMMMM NO POS QUE BUENA PREGUNTA JKSAJKASKSKSJJSKAJSKAJSKAJK cause you seeeeee, season1, released in 2002/3, is like- really really good. It is a pretty funny parody of teen dramas and a time capsule of everything late 90s-early 00s, with archetypical characters that are so well written beyond their role who play and mash with each other so perfectly, and historical humor that is so on point and funny, covering much more than US history.......and it is so damn funny~~

and seasons2/3 released in 2023/4...... it just isn't bro... it's not that funny or that well written, the new characters have a lot of potential that is never exploited, barely any historical humor and it's not even a parody anymore so it doesn't even have that comedy component.

But like- it's not that bad when- cause you seemhbfml- when like- 🥺🥺🥺👉👈- cause there's this- hwehwehwehwehwkenwileow 💓💓💝💞💗💓💕❤️‍🔥💗💓💞❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥💕💝💝💘💘💘💗💓💝💞💘❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥💓💓💞

Topher Bus is pretty much everything I described for season1, he's funny and soooo well written, the historical bits are small and hidden but they're so excellent and he's definitely a product of Current Times in the best way possible cause the comedy around him is so great~~, even his name is literally perfect and says so much, literal pensaron en todo. He's also barely in it soooo do I reccomend to watch 20 eps of seasons that aren't too good for a single character that is GREAT but doesn't do much? ehhhhh that's for you to decide :P

Basically I reccomend to watch the first season of Clone High which is all here on youtube and maybe then watch at least the first 2 eps of season 2 and see how you like it, perfectly fine to drop it after that, you won't be missing much 👌
