Rewatching Gossip Girl and actually getting super into it and omg early season 5 Chuck was rly him at his best. I’m on season 5 episode 4 and I don’t want to punch him? For like the first time ever? He’s finally leaving Blair alone, he’s got a weird semi-friendship with Dan, he’s finding true joy in caring for a dog - the writers rly set up a lovely arc that shows how toxic and undesirable Chuck and Blair’s relationship was and allowed Blair to slowly find power within herself again, all while actually beginning to make Chuck almost sympathetic (a task I never would’ve thought impossible), and tied everything together with a Dan-Blair relationship that suddenly seemed like the obvious path for these characters that might have even been subtly building up since the very beginning of the show, then threw it all away at the end of the season just for some last-minute fan service that required some insane retconning to actually try to justify narratively huh? It’s just so aidhjenwhsbaiwnwbi. Anyways long live dair ig.

okay hear me out here: emmrich "i thought i'd be married by now" volkarin would go feral for traditional anniversary gifts. idk if there’s a thedas equivalent already but i’m calling it now that he'd make it SO special, he'd spend weeks doing meticulous research... master crafting excuses for when he goes to the city to buy things... swearing myrna and vorgoth to secrecy...

the first two years are either cotton or paper so that'd be books either way, rare first editions of rook’s favourites, signed copies, a romantic evening in one of the necropolis’ more ancient libraries… the third year is leather – a scabbard, a quiver, a staff grip – whatever it is, it’s bespoke and incredibly detailed. the fourth year is linen/silk and emmrich brings rook up to the city to meet his slightly-overworked-but-well-paid tailor. fifth year is wood and it’s an antique writing desk or a beautiful carving. sugar is for their sixth year together and manfred bakes them a cake with only the slightest supervision from emmrich… wool and bronze and salt and i could go on and on but you know that even before the years that are gems/precious metals, emmrich is putting his whole volkarinussy into it

Well, that was a lot harder than I thought it would be, plus had to take a sick baby to the doc ('s all fine, just one of those things babies get all too often). But, there's a mod that lets Mechi and Kawhu share a room of they want to do that! Just select a bed and mark it as a shared bedroom.

if i can be honest here this is really one of my least favourite parts of the way the romances are written. the idea that you can only really fall in love once (and both the related ideas that, if this love is real, then every other relationship you've had must not have really been love and that, if you have been in love before, your previous love somehow cheapens the current love) is so completely juvenile. it's the kind of line of thought you'd expect to see in a young adult novel marketed exclusively to 12- to 16-year-olds for whom every emotion feels like the most intense, ultimate feeling they could ever have, and who do not yet have the life experiences to understand (or appreciate) the complexities of love. "i've only ever loved this one person this way, every other feeling i've thought was love has just been a poor imitation" is a pretty thought but is ultimately a fantasy (and one that i, personally, find incredibly disrespectful towards people who have been in love and then fall in love again).

it would be one thing if this idea was espoused by only one of the characters. if only n (just as an example) bought into the idea that only one love can be your true love, then that would say something about n's character, their romantic and life history, the way they view and interpret the world, etc. but instead all of the ros seem to follow this line of thought - they've all never been in real love before, if they and the detective broke up they'd never experience this kind of love again, they're all soulmates, etc. and in that way this idea is not a characterization choice for particular characters, but an idea perpetuated by the work as a whole. and in my (biased and personal) opinion, it's a childish and unrealistic idea.

i won't be writing these two anytime soon but the ideas are neat so i thought i'd share - will work on these when i have finished at least some of the wip's i have 😓:

1) the one where andrew dies (andreil, kevneil)

i read the bit in the ec where neil goes insane after andrew dies as a lesson from the moriyama's and my mind just put things in order so this is just chilling in my head now. it's going to have them as exy players but robin leaves exy to become a journalist because she enjoys it - years after andrew's death and neil's supposed disappearance she starts tracing his steps to talk to him about what happened. when she does find neil there's barely anything of neil left in him and she finds it hard to recognize the wesninski standing before her.

but she sits him down and talks to him and he's so reluctant to open up but he remembers robin was andrew's favorite fox so he does melt eventually.

a few tags i can think of rn: major character death, infidelity, blood and gore (a bit higher than canon-typical violence), existentialism, heavy depictions of grief

2) a ghost story (kevseth OR andrew)

kevin's alcoholism almost kills him so wymack and abby send him to a rehab facility in the mountains. except the room he is in is haunted by either seth or andrew's ghost who killed himself there several years ago. supposedly.

so in the process of recovery and bored out of his mind, kevin decides to investigate the facility with seth/andrew's ghost to find out what actually happened to him. he doesn't enjoy what he finds.

(disclaimer: i have not watched dead boy detectives or lockwood & co. which might feel similar to this but they're not really. the fic just doesn't have that vibe to it - its actually very depressing to be stuck in a room with someone only you can see. half the time kevin doesn't know if he's making shit up honestly.)

this one's super underdeveloped and a very recent idea, but i think mister history nerd would enjoy it. also i need to do a bunch of research for this so i don't get things wrong so. delayed.

But i am back now, and that's all that matters (please agree). Demo is coming Friday, November 17th, but like i said before, it's going to be far shorter than i wanted. I had originally planned to post the first two or three chapters as a little treat since this blog hit 1k followers but last night my laptop decided to refuse to accept my password forcing me to hard reset and wipe it and i lost ALL of the work i had on both embers of hope and shadows of the gun☹️(i was in genuine tears im ngl)

I think it's weird that as a culture we just stole the word mana from the Māori/Polynesian language(s) to use in video games because it's kinda magic in a way if you understand nothing about the culture youre taking from and white dudes from Ohio still debate the pronunciation like it isn't a real word.

The Māori vowels are

A = ah (as in are)

E = eh (as in there)

I = ee (as in three)

O = aw (as in or)

U = oo (as in two)

You will often see a macron (ā, ē, ī, ō, ū) which just denotes that it's a long vowel sound instead of a short one.

The constinants are fairly easy, there are just a few things to keep in mind like "wh" is a "f" sound similar to the "ph" in "phone" and that "nga" makes a "nah" sound similar to the "nah" in "yeah, nah...yeah."

Additionally, te reo Māori is a very nasal heavy language and uses soft rolled R's more along the lines of French rather than Spanish if that helps.

Te reo Māori was once an exclusively oral language. It wasn't until the Dutch, French, American, and English "settlers" arrived in the 19th century that white people tried to write it down. It is also an endangered language that we need to work to keep alive, especially when the New Zealand government is actively trying to destroy it.

You Americans and Europeans wrote this language down. The least you could do is learn to read it.
