the most gorgeous man I've ever known sent me a drunk voice message hurt that i left my job at the bar he goes to without telling him and adding that he saw me on tv speaking about palestine, which turned into me telling my ex boss to give him my number, and the sober voice message was much worse because this sweet guy just tells me that he's so proud of me and then i can feel him like talking with a constricted throat saying he understands that i left and closes with "from the river to the sea" and doesn't it just suck that some things have no hope of ever beginning and yet still end somehow

It's kind of hilarious how The Long Winter goes on this extended tangent where it ties itself in knots explaining how Almanzo illegally filed a claim at 19, but it's okay, because the law is stupid and Almanzo is really responsible and totally deserves to run his own farm, so this is much more moral than those guys who are filing claims legally and then handing off the land to corporations...

And it's all completely unnecessary, because the real-life Almanzo was a few years above the 21-year age requirement, and this plot problem only exists because they aged Almanzo down because they didn't think children's book audiences would accept the ten-year age gap between the romantic leads.

How long would it take for someone to go to Olympus in the elevator?

Okay, I need to solve this.

I have seen multiple takes on this and the one I've seen upwards of 2 times it that it would take over an hour to reach the 600th floor but the mathematics are not working the same for me.

According to Wikipedia the elevators move at about 1200 ft per minute. I don't trust this so I managed to find a YouTube video from 11 years ago that showed that an elevator went 78 floors in exactly 1min 10sec which means it goes about 1.1 floors per second assuming every floor is the same height (Which if I've done my math right would be about 12.5 feet, using estimation). This inevitably leads to the question:

How far away is Heaven?

12.5 x 600 is 727500 feet. This encounters a problem of the fact that we don't know if 600 was just an arbitrary number chosen by Rick Riordan (it probably was lets be real) or if it actually represents the distance from the top to Olympus (for this we are assuming it is because I will actually lose my mind if we do not)

this makes for a pretty easy estimation of 600 x 1 making it 600 seconds in the elevator which is 10 minutes
