◇ First of all this boy is absolutely autistic. My little autistic ass acted so much like him as a kid, I mean, what autistic 12 year old wouldn't base their entire summer around a weird book full of monsters they found?

◇ I think he's a trans dude and aro/ace, and that his crush on Wendy was more comphet than anything. I'm not really a fan of any ship involving him but I think platonic dipcifica could be cute.

◇ Cryptozoology/The Paranormal is absolutely his main special interest, but he also has an sp/in in computers/comp sci (but he's honestly not great at computer stuff).

Mabel

◇ AuDHD Queen! I think her main special interest is absolutely arts / crafts, I mean look at all the silly things she makes throughout the series as well as her dedication to handmaking dozens of puppets/props/etc as well as writing and entire play to impress her crush of the week in Sock Opera. ◇ I think sexuality wise she's not straight but prefers to be unlabelled. I also like to think she's the type to collect xenogenders / neopronouns like pokemon cards. ( she totally uses a bunch of cat-based pronouns) ◇ Shortly after the series I think she'd get a little less Boys-Crazy and focus more exploring who she is as a person / her self expression. Absolutely is gonna have a mall goth/emo/scene phase (she's smushing all three of those together into one thing for herself).

(I also think Mabel and Dipper were born identical twins)

Grunkle Stan

◇ Also AuDHD, not quite sure what his big main special interest would be but he's absolutely hyperfixated on Ducktective. Also going off the story in Lost Legends I think he'd absolutely be getting into making comics / drawing in general (even if hes not great at it). Post series I think he'd spend a lot of his free time out at sea drawing in the boat's cabin. Mostly making comics of silly re-tellings of he and Ford's adventures out at Sea (he absolutely shows Dipper and Mabel these if he and Ford video calls them when they're on land) ◇ I'm a transfem Stanley truther. He doesn't really realize/come to terms with it until post-series. I think she'd just grow out her hair and throw it in a pony-tail + use she/he pronouns to transition. She'd still use the name Stanley and be fine with both masc/fem terms (ie fine be called a man or a woman). Also he's bisexual (but has known this since he was like a teen, even if he didn't have the words to label it.) ◇ I think his Popsicle addiction from the unaired pilot is real and canon. Old autistic men love popsicles just look at my dad and grandfather.

Ford

◇ Transmasc, somewhere under the nonbinary umbrella but very guy adjacent. Mainly uses he/him pronouns but I think he'd use "it" and "they" aswell. Gay and Arospec as well. ◇ Autism + NPD + Schizophrenia wombo combo. He's sooooo NPD coded its INSANE, I am going to write an essay about it in the future. Goes without saying that his special interests are the paranormal and various sciences, but I think he has a hardcore love for the arts as well. ◇ Going off both the autism and arospec HC- I think he's the type to convince himself he has a crush very easily, when in reality he just has a strong admiration / platonic love for those in question, and had strong platonic feelings for McGucket back in college that he confused for romantic ones (projecting 100000000%) (i think the Stan twins were fraternal twins)

The entirety of my thoughts on Ninjago's technology are long and vast and complicated, and I could probably make a full video essay on just that topic alone. But for the sake of simplicity, and also because I'm too lazy to write a 10k-word essay with screenshot evidence on why Ninjago tech isn't actually anachronistic, I'm going to just focus on the season 3 issue for now.

Now, one criticism that often gets lobbed at Rebooted is the matter of the technology. How did Ninjago suddenly become a hyper-futuristic technoscape in the span of what couldn't be more than a year? At first glance, I can understand how that might feel unrealistic. I used to feel the same way! But it actually makes total sense when you realize that this technology probably already existed, if only in a beta form, for years before s3 started.

But wait! If the technology already existed in some form, then why wasn't it used? Why did Ninjago only become a cyberpunk dystopia during s3??

The answer to that question is something that sounds like a no-brainer, but should probably be said anyway: just because a technology exists, doesn't mean it is democratized. That is to say, just because a society has made certain technological advancements, doesn't mean everyone in that society can actually access those advancements. Look at any country in our contemporary world - richer and more industrialized communities typically have better access to cutting edge developments, whereas more rural communities may not even have reliable internet access. Even Ignacia, which is one of the most rural communities we've seen in the entire show, was depicted as having landlines and telephone poles in the very first scene.

Moreover, it's reasonable to assume that robotics and digital technology has existed - and fairly advanced - for decades in-universe.

My evidence? The creation of characters such as Zane and Unagami. Both were invented roughly 40 and 20 years pre-canon respectively. Coding, and especially programming an AI like both characters are classified as, requires the existence of a computer. Which means that computers existed as early as the Serpentine War. (Unless Zane is the product of magi-tech, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Especially since Zane's original body also has other functions that, to my knowledge, wouldn't be possible without programming. For now, I'm proceeding under the assumption that Zane was created purely with technology.)

For these reasons I would argue that certain technologies, and in particular digital technology, have existed in-universe for a lot longer than we might think at first glance - but due to what appears to be some very extreme wealth disparity, technology has only recently become more widely accessible within the last few decades.

Think about it. Most human settlements we see are fairly small and rural, except for Ninjago City. Ninjago City is the only city we've seen on-screen in the entire series (with a few small towns here and there, but it's mostly just villages). And even then, the cost of living in Ninjago City itself is astronomically high. There's clearly something funky going on with this country's distribution of wealth.

With that in mind, it makes total sense that the tech we see in s3 was at least in development a lot earlier than anyone might realize. It's just that it was too expensive and exclusive for anyone in the general public to actually use it.

Now, let's look at this in the context of Rebooted.

Imagine you're a multi-millionaire tech mogul and the CEO of a very powerful tech company. The city is in shambles in the wake of an apocalyptic battle against Lego Satan. You take this opportunity to spearhead the reconstruction efforts. On top of being an impressive PR stunt, this is also great for business as it presents you with the perfect opportunity to populate the city wholesale with your own products: flying cars, holographic floating streets, AI vending machines, elaborate VR and AR setups, mechanical spider wheelchairs, the whole nine yards. The government probably even writes you a big check to make this process more accessible to your consumers - I mean, to the citizens of your the shiny new corporatocracy you may or may not have stumbled into creating. Whether or not you employed lobbyism to get this check is neither here nor there. After all, this is for the greater good! And to finally seal the deal that this city has become a Borg Industries outpost, you rebrand Ninjago City to New Ninjago City. This isn't just a city anymore, it's a corporate asset. It's an ad campaign. It's a way of life.

This also explains why all the tech mysteriously vanishes after s3 ends: supply and demand. A robot apocalypse is, among other things, bad for PR. I don't wanna think about the existence of a Lego Stock Market because that will hurt my brain, but a robot apocalypse is definitely what I would classify as a "black swan event" (an unpredictable crisis that severely disrupts the stock market). The company starts faltering financially because of all the public backlash, people stop buying and investing in their tech, their stocks start to crash, and Borg Industries has to roll back on their infrastructural monopoly. And so the technological status quo is (mostly) restored.

The theme of s3 isn't "technology bad" - at least, it shouldn't be. If you're as brainrotted as I am then the theme of s3 instead becomes, "maybe you shouldn't let one sole company have a total monopoly on your society's infrastructure because they might accidentally start a cyberpunk dystopia". And that is a...disturbingly apt moral for our current day and age (cough cough Amazon).

If I write a video essay on why S2 overall didn't work for me personally what bits should I add from fandom consensus (I'm posting this before I go to bed, I'm first breaking S2 down episode by episode, putting 'pins' in topics for after when I break down why I was disappointed, I'm already at Ep 3). I won't be discussing how Izzy's death impacted elder queers (I'm 21) or physically disabled people as it's not my place, but will be linking people's experiences. I also live in a rural Red state, I've been visibly closeted my whole life. I can't speak to finding a queer family the way Izzy did in S2.

I've already got:

Jenkins confirmed that this season was always going to be 8 episodes, so he bit off more than he could do and gave us a story as broad as an ocean with little depth.

Izzy's arc is centered on leaving Ed, only claiming to not want to be without Blackbeard, though neither character really WAS Blackbeard. Izzy suddenly becomes Ed's mentor.

How if you wanted Izzy to be tied to Ed and Blackbeard it could have been so easy to just portray Izzy as suicidal this entire season, and genuinely depressed, instead of having the time of his life.

The fact Izzy, Stede, and Ed rarely interact with the main crew. In the scenes, they are in they are framed as two separate groups. Making Ed feel like he was never brought back into the family, and Izzy as only having made friends with the heartbroken crew

Stede being shallow as fuck, ignoring Lucius' trauma, telling jim to 'hush' in ep 4 during the Ed apology scene (fuck him), telling Ed he shouldn't apologize in ep 8, the ONE TIME Ed apologizes to someone, looking at them and fully meaning it.

Ed stops trying to make peace with the crew after episode 5.

Lucius' line implying sexual assult, and Fang's line about what he did to Ed's unconscious body being the type of humor this show should have stayed away from.

Not confirming what the Olu/Jim/Archie/Zheng situation is IN CANON. Are they all together? Who knows??? I literally see it as Archie/Jim and Zheng/Olu where Jim and Olu are partnered? But the only confirmation of that is Olu called Jim Babe this season. Like????

Izzy's funeral being tearless, them making jokes atop a grave, and it is followed by a WEDDING. OH, and the ring being left there(I won't reference the leg, but will reference that some find it odd that THEY REMOVED HIS LEG, a part of his body, to use as a headstone)

1; Be specific and unique

For example, the prompt "Sole dies". All characters would be sad, or angry. But the prompt, "Companions travel through a haunted forest and lose each other" has a lot of ways it can go. Vague prompts can be difficult for me to write, as there's often not much to write. Or if there is, it ends up feeling samey, or too short. There's only so much I can write about Sole dying.

Some prompts are answered in canon, and don't need to be answered. For example, Companions react to Sole speaking like the Silver Shroud. You can easily go on a wiki or find a compilation video on YouTube.

Also, I prefer to write about the companions, not Sole. So, requests about the Sole Survivor are likely to sit in the inbox for a while.

2; Be mindful of dark subject matter

Guys. You know miscarriage is a real thing, right? A horrible, traumatic thing that fucks up entire families? And same with rape, or abuse, or anything like that. Use your best judgement asking about heavier topics. These things aren't scenarios to generate angst. They're traumatic events. That real people go through.

I'll never forget following a react blog who was asked to write about miscarriage, only for them to apologize and refuse, as they had suffered multiple miscarriages themselves.

Rule 3; No fetishes or second-hand embarrassment prompts

So, I said be specific and weird...not with your own fetishs, please.

For non fetish stuff, I really do not care for toilet humor. Or anything meant to evoke second-hand embarrassment. This is another 'use best judgement'. I'm very easily grossed out by body fluids/excrement and there's no prompt that I'm willing to do with it.

Jon!! Jon my most beloved!!!!!!!!! He's so important to me and I love him so much. This one got long so putting it under a cut lol.

First impression:

Ok this is a fun one because of how I got into TMA and you're gonna get some Sparky Lore.

So. Through a convoluted series of events involving a warriors fan-comic, Voltron (the remake), and several video-essays, I stumbled my way into a TMA fanfic. It was a J//mart soulmate AU that I honestly really enjoyed despite having zero context for the entire rest of TMA, but my complete lack of knowledge meant I ended up w/ a very... skewed impression of Jon. I imagined him as like, a balding, middle-aged white guy with wisps of gray hair, thick-rimmed glasses, and jowls. In his 50s, maybe his 40s. No I don't know why. I also sort of thought Martin was the main character and Jon was a major supporting character in the podcast itself (I. Don't really know why??) despite the fic being entirely from Jon's perspective. Aaaaand then I scrolled the TMA tag on the author's tumblr account. Idk how I reacted to that though my memory fails me. All I know is I have now adopted the common fanon perception of Jon's appearance and also I have been made aware that he is, in fact, 28. I was right about the graying hair tho.

I can't remember how I felt about Jon at first, but probably I liked him.

Favorite moment:

Oh I'm supposed to just choose ONE????

Idk. The entirety of episode 81 (yes it's my favorite). Literally any of his snarky little comments. His interactions with Sasha. His interactions with Elias. Whenever he was rude to Martin. "Our Gerard." When he talked about hoping Jonah was good. When he was experiencing Horrible Agony. Everything.

Ok ok. But seriously. I don't know if it's my favorite but one scene that lives rent-free in my head is that one moment near the end of episode six, talking about the death of Harriet Lee, where he says "though obviously it’s a tragic loss of life, etcetera, etcetera." It's so small but I think about it all the time... just. Jon who struggles with empathy. With caring about other people. Going through the motions of it so obviously because he knows that he has to but also doesn't think it should matter... idk. Does that make sense?

It's basically this post, really.

(Maybe this is projection. It's not a condemnation I don't think any of these make you better or worse as a person.)

Idea for a story

Idea... singular? Oh boy. Ok. So I'm not sure I have a singular solitary idea for a fic that DOESN'T involve Jon.

Okok here's one I'll never write because it would involve Too Much Martin. I've talked about it before but I don't think I've ever given it a full deep-dive. It's also like 75% Pure Salt. Much of it was Rotated while listening to Arcade Fire's Ready to Start so I think you should listen to it while reading this if you want. Also it's a good song.

Anyway it's one of them "Somewhere Else is Jonah Magnus Times" AUs and also one of my (several) bitter "Jon dumps Martin for someone better" AUs. Mostly canon compliant except instead of Jon asking Martin to kill him in e200 Martin takes matters into his own hands. They're kinda stuck together because they're literally the only person the other one has in a new and strange world but there is SO much festering resentment oh my god. Lots of arguements and tense conversations that are theoretically about what they should do next but actually about what happened in e200.

Sometimes Jon considers ending the world himself. Just doing it all over again because then he can complete his initial plan to kill everyone and starve the fears. It's like an idle "what-if" but the more he thinks about it the more sense it makes. No matter what there's going to be another apocalypse. And another. And another. And another. And clearly, he can't trust anyone but himself to do what needs to be done and stop the fears for good.

(And goddammit those few moments as the pupil felt so right.)

(But this isn't about that. It isn't.)

The thought of putting someone else through what he went through is beyond soul-crushing, but there is one person who could, theoretically, deserve it. One person Jon knows would do the exact same, if given the chance.

Idk if Jon founds the institute or seeks out Jonah to join his, but either way Jon wants Jonah's help. He breaks things off with Martin (does NOT mention any of his plans) and goes off to insert himself into Jonah's life.

Jon and Jonah begin a strange, very intense relationship. Jon is sort of a mentor figure, trying to guide Jonah the way Jonah guided him (potentially Jon tries to make Jonah the Archivist??) where Jonah is constantly digging for Jon's secrets and Jon is constantly trying to keep his true plans under wraps. Also they start having an affair (obviously).

Martin is probably still in the background trying to stop Jon but he fails <3. I think Jon maybe kills him in a fun parallel to how this began. But maybe not idc.

Jon does succeed in getting Jonah to read the statement but the ending flip-flops based on how I'm feeling. Sometimes Jon does succeed and kill the fears, dooming this universe to save countless others, but I think a stronger ending would be Jon failing. Jonah learning of his plans and killing him and starting the whole cycle over again, with them transported to a new universe and trying for their own armageddons, with the implication that this is going to be an endless cycle playing exactly into the Web's plan over and over again.

Unpopular opinion

He wouldn't date Martin. They don't know each other, they don't like each other, in just about any other circumstances Jon wouldn't give him the fucking time of day. I don't care.

Favorite relationship

Currently in Jon//elias hell but Jon//sasha dual archivists makes so much Sense to me...

Favorite headcanon

Oooooh... tie between aro Jon and trans Jon. I don't buy any interpretation of Jon as cis honestly. Usually I default to transmasc (PROJECTION) but I think Jon has soooo much Transgender potential in every direction. Aro Jon just makes so much sense to me. Like it suits them so well. Aro Jon........

You'd probably need context to understand the significance, seeing as this is based off someone else's au (Shepscapade's DBHC au) which in turn takes android mechanics from the video game Detroit Become Human- firstly, here's the illustrated guide that Shep made on all things android, feel free to skip to the second half/most recent addition to the post for interfacing!

And a LITTLE bit of background (I'm trying to keep this short and I'm so sorry I think I failed) - at one canon point in the au, Etho, an android, tries to do something called interfacing with Bdubs, a human. (here :D)

- That's not something that's possible, by the way, it's only things that androids can do with other androids - and something that, as the illustrated guide explains, most would shy away from doing unnecessarily.

- And I think for Etho to accidentally try to do that in what's still relatively early on in their "friendship" with someone who isn't even an android is pretty crazy (huge display of trust + intimacy afsdljkflll)

ANYWAY all that is to say is that after the incident, you'll notice Etho's wearing gloves (something Shep pointed out in the tags of the "Etho interfaces with Bdubs" post).

And that's the scrapped idea! I stopped in the middle of writing that scene to really think about the implications. And imo the display of trust that it would be for Etho to consciously, deliberately decide not to pull away, despite being startled by Bdubs holding his hand... idk I just think that's better :3

I've been okay generally, I feel like I'm in a bit of a transitory period in my life where I'm trying new things and attempting to get myself to chase dreams that feel very far away. I just recently got on my Summer break from school, so I'm grateful for that! I was planning on taking another summer course, but I dropped it last second because it's technically not a requirement

I posted a random scene that I've been wanting to post on AO3 because I wrote it a while ago, it's basically an AU where Nagito is a fem musician and the whole premise is that she's popular (and so is the rest of the DR cast and some others, like just generally a fame AU cause I dig the idea so much) but it hasn't gotten many interactions since it primarily involves a rare-pair. (I've been so into Taylor Swift's music and her rise to stardom, it's been a recent fixation for me so I completely blame that on that AU/snippet of a fic.)

I have SOOOO many fanfics sitting in my documents of this rare pair, like 99% of them have fem nagito, and it mainly stemmed as an "inside joke" between my partner and I but now it's like second language to us and it's this weird thing where this version of fem nagito feels more like an OC if anything, cause the more deviations you take from canon the more creative liberty you impose on them and all that. I always feel a little bit like I'm lying when I post that content, because I love writing canon Nagito and writing him as accurately as I can muster because I'd like to think I do a good job, but then I remind myself that fanfic is entirely optional and I may as well post things that feel completely unique to me and even "out of character" because what's the harm in it? most sensible people will just click off if they don't like it.

Like, I posted this fic titled "3 years different*" on AO3 which was ANOTHER rarepair AU fem-nagito thing (Like, a different AU to the musician AU one) which, again, stemmed between my partner and I and I didn't expect anyone to read it and enjoy it but I got a pretty nice comment on the second chapter that warmed my heart and made me feel like posting was slightly worth it.

and I just love the rare-pair and I love my version of fem nagito that has shifted and grown - and while it's SO much fun to kinda have a little fandom AU between my partner and i, it gets sooo lonely being the only 2 people who are a fan of this hyper specific fandom-amalgamation we created??? like I'm only touching on it lightly here but THE LORE we made runs ridiculously deep, I've considered what a video-essay on it would look like trying to cover EVERYTHING and it would be A MESSS but it's so fun

in my personal life I've just been filling my time with animal crossing, I don't know if you're anything like this but I swing between all of my previous fixations when I don't find a new one and I just ping-pong between getting really sucked into one thing to another. like, a few months ago I was OBSESSEDDD with the sims 2. before that I think it was stardew valley. Now I'm back on animal crossing. I finally have a Switch so I've been decorating my island from SCRATCH for the first time ever, it's fun but I also find myself running out of ideas so quickly so I end up running around my island aimlessly wondering what I should do. I love building on animal crossing with long-form youtube content in the back.

I also want to start doing fan edits again!! I used to be really into it in 2020 (I Wonder why with the state of the world then), but I'm trying really hard to dabble more because playing around in After Effects and making transitions is genuinely a lot of fun. I hope i get into it more consistently

I'm also looking forward to a concert that I'm going to with my partner soon! I've never been to a concert so it'll be my first! I'm excited to dress up and hopefully know the words to the band !!

This is my main f/o!! I've had him for years and years and he will never leave my head. Through thick and thin he has been a great source of comfort for me and has remained that way even through dozens of other hyperfixations. His name actually isn't yet known, so he's refered to as Unknown a lot, but I've also given him a name myself, Antares. I switch between the two a lot.

He's from an indie game called Don't Take This Risk (as well as a webcomic by the same name) and is genuinely such an awful, terrible, manipulative person. I want to make it really clear I would not even begin to tolerate him if he were real. However he is fictional so I get to kiss this awful terrible man in my own head!! Yippe!!!

Fun fact: I owe this f/o the entire reason I can draw men. I used to really struggle w/ masc anatomy and hated my drawings of any guys but it was because of him that I persevered!!!

OUTSIDERRR. I love him so much. When you really think about it his presence in his game is so strange. He could have just as easily not been present with the way he doesn't alter the overarching narrative at all, but I love that he's there. He, and his origins, and his intentions, are so mysterious and so captivating. I could write an essay about this man and still have words to spare, so I'll stop while I'm ahead.

I remember watching a playthrough of Dishonored when I was really little. Only a year ago from now I remembered the game and decided to play it, and WOW did Outsider absolutely capture my mind and heart!! That entire game is so wonderfully made and is probably one of my favorite games of all time, if not the favorite. His tag is a reference to one of the voicelines from him in the main game, at his last shrine!

While I enjoy Moffats writing the most (including when he wasn't showrunner) I think the Moffat & Davies #1 "Eras" are simply different and you don't need to tear one down to uplift the other.

This explains why I don't like Chinball's era— yes its very long but it is very thoughtful and genuinely evaluates the writing. Also it has chapters so you don't need to watch the entire video.

The Flux is awesome but was completely unfinished with massive loose ends. The doubling down on it without addressing loose ends makes it very annoying to me. But it had some of the best characterization of Chibnall's era. Vinder FTW <3

Pick the canon: Time Lords are an aristocracy not a species. Gallifreyans who attend the academy & look into the time vortex, gain 12 regenerations becoming Time Lords. Perhaps children of Time Lords are encouraged or even forced to join the aristocracy. In fact, this is one of many many options when discussing Gallifreyens vs Time Lords, so its more so the canon I chose to go with rather than a headcanon. (Since I've never read any actual stories about looming I disregard it; I also disregard Timeless Child in this.)

Pick the canon: The Doctor's mother was the woman in "The End of Time" and she is not the same as the woman in "Hell bent." The writers endorsed us picking what we wanted in both case. Davies identified the first women as his mother in his original idea but it didn't land in the final script, so clarified it could be any trustworthy Time Lady. Moffat said he was leaving it to audience to decide if they are the same woman.

I think there's something to be said for fanfiction that loves canon in a way that’s rude. The future of Homestuck^2, and why you shouldn’t be celebrating

So... as some of you may have heard, Homestuck 2 is pretty much done. Hussie himself sent a post out to the patrons about the future of Homestuck 2, and the tldr is that because of constant harassment and abuse from the fandom, Homestuck 2 will be finished privately and released all at once. We don’t know how long that will take, but Hussie and the rest of us are easily assuming it’s going to be... a long time. According to Hussie, the rest of Homestuck 2 is going to be funded with the saved up money from the Patreon. The Patreon will no longer be charging patrons and is closed forever.

So, that’s the rundown. And you know what? I’m not excited. I’m not happy. I’m not celebrating. And no, it’s not just because I liked the direction of Homestuck 2. It’s because I am, quite frankly, disappointed and borderline disgusted with the actions of the Homestuck fandom ever since the epilogues dropped in 2019. 

While I can hope and wish that it’s not going to happen, I am sadly waiting for the celebratory posts to come rolling in. “WE DID IT! HOMESTUCK 2 IS OVER! WE WON!!” 

Sorry to be dramatic, but if you’re one of these people, you should be ashamed of yourself.

Say what you want about Andrew Hussie, but the fact that this new team, comprised mostly of lgbtq+ and poc folks being harassed to a dangerous/worrying degree because of a fucking webcomic??? Is fucking asinine. 

And don’t think I’m only referring to the annoying people on twitter either. To all of you Homestuck “fans” that have been nonstop berating and attacking the Homestuck 2 team, even indirectly, are also part of this. Constantly accusing people of such heinous things just because a fucking character in a comic does something you don’t quite agree with is quite literally almost just as bad to me. The never-ending finger pointing at this team and trying to say that they’re homophobic, transphobic, or literally any other kind of incredibly intense label just because some of the characters within the comic were not perfect examples of what you deem to be acceptable lgbtq+ representation. And, again, these characters were being written by a largely lgbtq+ team!

I’ve been a Homestuck fan since 2012. I’ve been an active Homestuck fan since 2012. I have been in the fandom through giga, omega, or whatever the fuck kind of pause you can think of. I was here when the epilogues first dropped, and I went through the “Oh I hate this” phase into the “oh, actually, I understand that this is not SUPPOSED to be like the original comic. It’s something new, unique, fun, and interesting, and plays around with fandom involvement while giving the fandom freedom to continue the story however the feel. Post-canon or dubiously canon isnt trying to erase what I think about the characters, it’s an interesting way to let a team trusted by Hussie do what THEY want with the story, and whether or not we choose to engage with it is completely up to us.”

And yknow, it just makes me really sad that people can’t seem to have that same mindset. While I’m incredibly grateful that hs2 will be finished eventually, it really disappoints me to see it go like this. It disappoints me that I can no longer support this project on patreon. And it really disappoints me that this fandom has turned into something that I’m genuinely ashamed to engage with 90% of the time because it’s full to the brim of people who are uselessly chasing after perfect representation and squeaky clean characters when quite literally that has not what Homestuck itself has been about since 2009. 

But I digress. Maybe this is a good thing because now I won’t have to see every tag of Homestuck plagued by people who simply don’t understand that if you don’t like something you don’t have to fucking read it. At least now maybe I’ll be able to find more people who were actually invested in this new direction of Homestuck, and new people who understand that dubiously canon was not meant to be taken so seriously. Maybe I can find people who agree that the harassment towards these creators over a fucking webcomic is absolutely unacceptable. 

I am eagerly waiting for the rest of Homestuck 2 to drop, and I hope that the team who was working on it finds financial security and some peace in the midst of all of this. Literally no one deserves to be treated like they did for simply writing a story. Yall did the best you could given the circumstances and there are people out there who liked and wanted to support your work. Literally godspeed yall, and good luck. 

To the rest of the Homestuck “fandom” that made everything go down like this, please have a terrible evening. Thank you.

Making my own post, because I'm derailing horribly and I know it. But I find this thread and @carriesthewind's addition key to a realization I just had about fandom drama.

Yes, there's this toxic dynamic where people demand the most good faith reading of their words, with generous opportunities for mistakes and misunderstandings, but go about reading everything they encounter in the worst possible faith, assuming malicious and harmful intent in everything.

And yes, that's one of the key drivers of fandom drama, because most people find people who go about doing that incredibly incendiary and annoying and often don't think twice to go back and call them out on it.

But the entire thread is talking about House of the Dragon as "the incest show" and how pointing out that "there's incest in the incest show, and if you're uncomfortable with incest, you'll be uncomfortable with both the canon and the fandom surrounding the incest show, because, y'know, all the incest," which... yeah. Valid points all around.

But I find it fascinated because it crystalized something for me and one of the reasons why most of fandom's tantrums about censorship vs harmful depiction annoy me so much. And I don't think mine is a unique experience, but... I don't have a stake, most of the time.

To wit, we all know Game of Thrones crashed and burned at the end and it's been such a meme there was a solid eight months worth of youtube video essays chronicling every single factor that went into turning the heir to the Sopranos as far as prestige TV went, into a fucking meme. But the thing is... Game of Thrones was something ELSE before it was the incest show. It was a whirlwind of high production and amazing acting and competent writing! ...right up until it wasn't. Yes, there was incest in it. There was also rape and violence and gore and maiming and a whole lot of shocking things, to a mainstream audience. It reveled shamelessly in its Adult rating and being gatekept behind HBO's paywall.

What I'm trying to say is, the people who watched Game of Thrones as it came out, myself included, and the people who left in disgust as the writing declined in quality and the plot became more and more obvious and stupid in direction and execution? We weren't there for JUST for the incest. To us, it wasn't the incest show. It was the dragon show. Or the politics show. Or the obscenely detailed costume work that makes me scream in paroxysms of ecstasy (yes, Bernadette Banner has a bunch of series breaking this down and salivating about it right along with us, go check them out over on youtube) show. Or it was the Charles Dance set the bar so fucking high every actor sharing a shooting site never mind scene with him has been forcefully dragged into a higher level of performance and it's fucking jaw dropping to witness show. Or the this is reigniting my love for D&D and fantasy because no one's ever taken it this seriously before and it's inspiring me to go look at those hobbies again show.

Sure, there were people who were absolutely in it for the incest. And you know what? All the power to them. Glad they were fed. But implying everyone has to be either gleefully consuming incest and celebrating/endorsing it, or being harmed by it, that's it, that's the dichotomy, the evil people who celebrate or the good people who're martyred (wow, some of you carry your evangelical damage VERY prominently and will find a way to work it into every conversation, yes), kind of erases the agency of the rest of us who looked at the incest and went "huh, not for me" and then moved on. Because that's a thing! That people with agency! Can do! Different people can have different tolerances for stuff. You don't get to erase us just because we're not convenient to the narrative.

Bad faith arguments about a show's morality - and let's start from the fact all arguments surrounding a show's moral standing are bad faith from the gate - will find the one thing they find objectionable - the incest - and try to eclipse everything else, pretending there was nothing else to the show, but incest. Because that's how they set the stage and cordon off the bits and pieces that sort of don't fit their argument. They're trying to get a head start in the conversation by delimiting the grounds. Not cool, but also understandable. All bad faith takes do that.

The weird thing is that in most other scenarios, when someone does the bad faith narrowing down of the field like that, the general answer is "this is more complicated than that and you're being stupid for being so narrow-minded, go away." When evangelicals try to do it about creationism and fossils. When evangelicals try to do it about science and religion and politics and a million other things, because this is a very (though not exclusively) evangelical way to frame problems and it's part of their preaching methods so they've internalized it.

But when it comes to media? And when it comes to Queer issues? Somehow people don't immediately go "your framing of this is objectively incorrect and also stupid, go away". People go in engaging in that same framing.

So now GoT and HotD are "the incest shows", and you can't have an opinion about them without identifying at the door if you're in for the incest or against it, as if incest is the central point of the discussion and the thing everyone is hyperfocused on. Like... no? IDK, I don't care about the incest, I'm more interested in X/Y/Z. But this framing makes it so that from the outside, if you don't know what's happening, you assume that, yeah, the incest must be the most important thing. Everyone talking about it, pro and against are basing all their thoughts and comments about the incest. So it must be true! So a bad faith framework, unchallenged, becomes the good faith standard that people use to gauge the conversation, because there's no challenging in that framework.

Bad frameworks are bad, and more than that, they're harmful. Because when you let them go unchallenged, you're letting bad faith actors dictate the tone of the conversation. This is annoying and irritating in fandom discussions, but it escalates to actively fucking harrowing when it comes to the other thing that keeps following this pattern: conversations about queer people, particularly trans people, and the concentrated efforts from right wing extremists to reframe their entire existence as predators, and specifically child sexual predators.

So, like, absolutely call out people who do that good faith for me, bad faith for thee bullshit. Absolutely recognize when someone is trying to bias a conversation or forcefully frame it in a way that tries to box you into a gotcha. But when you see the bad framing, for fiction and for queer issues, and you wouldn't tolerate that in a science conversation. Or in a history conversation. Or in a linguistic conversation... yeah, call THAT out. And remember the only people who benefits from you engaging unquestioning in that bad framing, is the asshole who set up that bad frame in the first place.

So I was in my feelings about Frank and while I'm sure someone else has mentioned this, I noticed something while looking thru screenshots of him when you play as Bell and you have a conversation with Woods and Mason. Aside from the whole scene being heart melting in the best way, I saw that his vest has pins on it.

And while I'm not sure what the shield-shaped patch is for (I tried looking it up assuming it was a military insignia of some kind, but to no avail) and the one pin is an indigenous man wearing a war bonnet (again I tried to look up if it was for anything specific, but I found nothing- not even outdated sports teams and names nor any kind of product merchandising that was of the era) BUT what I COULD find was about the small blue one.

It's got the words "PEACE NOW" on it with a dove, all in white. And it seemed vaguely familiar to me on top of it being interesting that Frank Woods, notable military man extraordinaire who fought in the Korean and Vietnam war with a lot of overabundance of confidence and cockiness, would have a pin about peace. So here's what I found.

A 1968 war protest button advocating for peace and opposing the Vietnam War. Now I personally am a very anti-war individual and have done research on the anti-war movements surrounding the era and I've made my own headcanons and also maybe an oc that falls in love with Frank who is heavily inspired by Jane Fonda, actress and activist of the times and I dunno! I just feel very validated and vindicated about the fact that canonically, Frank Woods wears a vest with an anti-war peace pin for a war he fought in and was a POW of and came home from. Notably a war that showed civilians the true horrors of war up close and treated its veterans horribly, especially by the general populace. LONG STORY SHORT despite doing what they do I truly believe that Woods, and Mason by extension, have become disillusioned by all of the things they've done and they've been through and are reflective on being cogs in the military machine. I could write an entire essay on this but I just thought it deserved a post.

Okay, so what’s with all the “theirloveissocanon”? I think my shipmate scortia said it best: “Theirloveissocanon is basically those of us at Wolfstar relishing in the many scenes in the books that can be taken as evidence of them being a couple. If read that way it is very convincing, close-to-canon, but it can easily be read as just platonic friendship. We aren't obsessed in assuming we know for sure they are for sure a couple in Jo's mind, it's just all in good humor and happens to be how we read into it. It's quite fun to type ‘theirloveissocanon’ too.” It’s a declaration of belief in a fun sort of way. It’s not meant as “theirloveissocanon because we say so and we’re better than you.”

As I write this essay, in November of 2005, HBP has been released for five months and has spawned the most intense shipping, ship-debates, and ship-arguments of any Harry Potter book to date. Within one book, we got two ships that started and then ended, for very different reasons (Ron/Lavender and Harry/Ginny), one ship that hasn’t officially started but is nearly there (Ron/Hermione), one old ship that gained a greater role (Bill/Fleur), and one ship that, after being officially introduced in the final chapters, has probably spawned the most diverse reactions in the fandom (Remus/Tonks). And the devotion to Sirius/Remus goes on.

Writing this essay is quite a challenging prospect, to be completely honest. Everyone seems to have an opinion about it, and often very strong opinions, positive and negative alike. Furthermore, even inside its own group of devotees, there are a million different takes on their history, personality, dynamics, and power balance, none of which is necessarily any different than any other pairing of course, but it is daunting all the same. All of which is just meant to say that I cannot by any means attempt to speak for the entire Remus/Sirius subfandom in its myriad variations. And I don't fool myself that I can. Nor can I expect to make people like the pairing if they don't. I have a life’s philosophy, however, and that is, never argue to change people’s minds, just explain to help them understand the other side. As such, with that in mind, we begin.

Defending Harmione part 3!

I'm back to defend my fav ship!

I have a part 1 where I debunked some of the most popular arguments against Harmione and in part 2 I debunked the "siblings" argument. Time for part 3! This one is going to be about a video on YouTube titled "Why Harry and Hermione Wouldn't Work - Harry Potter Video Essay" and I'll go over the points the YouTuber made and try my best to debunk them. 💘

Also, I accept that there's still a few minor flaws to the ship, but these little flaws and obstacles make every ship beautiful. 🥀

1. "It would be too cliche. The hero gets the smartest and prettiest girl as a trophy."

This is a fair argument to the whole story itself, but it doesn't defeat the ship in any way. If you put it in other words: "Harry and Hermione wouldn't work together because they're both very powerful and great and that would make it very cliche." That's silly. But even that isn't right. The situation isn't exactly how people make it seem.

Hermione isn't the all-perfect girl, the most beautiful, the most intelligent, everything perfect. She has flaws, many flaws (which weren't portrayed in the movies) and she is a very realistic character. She is intelligent and productive, she is a perfectionist in a way, but that also causes her to be very anxious and stressed out at moments, she puts too much pressure on herself, and she's also insecure! Who said Hermione was the most beautiful one? Just because Emma Watson was gorgeous doesn't mean Hermione was too. Of course, Harry thought she was pretty according to OotP, but it's clearly stated in the books that she wasn't the prettiest girl in the series. Fleur, Cho and even Ginny were much more beautiful. Hermione is NOT the perfect superstar.

You might say that even if she's not perfect, she's still the female lead. But the actual "cliche" part is about the hero ending up with the perfect superstar and not necessarily with the other lead hero.

So back to Hermione being the brightest witch of her age. But her being very bright and powerful doesn't make her a bad match for Harry. Ginny was very smart in fact, she was beautiful and funny, very sassy and confident. Why isn't she considered as a trophy for Harry?

The point is, NO, Hermione is NOT a perfect all-star and their relationship wouldn't even have to be built on the hero and the heroine being perfect, their relationship would be built on trust and loyalty.

2. "Harry and Hermione's relationship prove that a male and a female can be friends without having a romantic relationship, so we shouldn't ruin that."

Yes, it's truly a beautiful demonstration that a male and a female can be best friends, but this says nothing that's actually against the ship, just like the previous one. If you put this in other words, it would sound like this: "Harry and Hermione were amazing best friends so they can't date." I understand that their friendship was amazing, but that in no way means their relationship would be bad. Of course, you don't have to see their relationship as romantic just because they were good friends, you can see it as platonic, but I'm just saying that the argument makes no sense.

Besides, was Hermione really the only female friend Harry had? What about Luna? What about Ginny (if you consider Harry and Hermione start dating and Ginny remains a friend, she was clearly very included after OoTP)? What about Ron's friendship with Hermione? What about Ron and Luna's friendship? What about Neville and Luna's friendship? What about Harry's quidditch teammates (Alicia, Katie, Angelina)? Why does everyone always make it seem like Hermione was the only female friend he had? Surely she was his only BEST friend but then Ron and Hermione were best friends too...

3. "It ruins the dynamic of the story. Harry's relationships were never meant to be the main focus, just a demonstration of his maturity. While Ron and Hermione's relationship developing in the background is nice to see."

I really didn't want to drag Romione into this because it's my second favorite ship from the entire Harry Potter universe. Just a disclaimer that anything I say here is not meant to bash Romione and hate on it because I'm truly a big fan of them and their love is undeniable.

I also mention Ginny and Harry's relationship in this and I have to say they're ALSO one of my favorite ships in the entire hp universe so no hate to them either. 🥺

Okay, so, basically every point he made in his video was about the story and not their actual relationship. The title is wrong, this doesn't show why Harry and Hermione wouldn't work, he's just saying how it would change the storyline. But I think we are all already aware that Harry and Hermione getting together would change a lot in the story. But I'll go over it anyways.

First of all, I don't entirely agree that Harry's relationships weren't the main focus, I mean half of the half-blood prince was about him developing feelings for Ginny-

But anyways, if Harry and Hermione were going to end up together, it would still happen in a similar way. We have all read the beautiful moments they shared together throughout the books, and those would've been enough for them to develop their feelings, but just not realize it until the last 2 books. We wouldn't have to add in any scenes that would change the story massively to lead them to falling in love, honestly, we had enough already in the books. So the only thing that would change would be probably Harry not developing feelings for Ginny, but instead slowly realizing his feelings for Hermione. Simple!

And as for Romione, I agree, the slowburn was beautiful, but we could've had the same thing, same development but as a friendship! Ron's character arc is one of my favorite things about the series and nobody can convince me that it wasn't amazing. Instead of Ron changing for Hermione to become her lover, we could have Ron changing for her to become a better friend. His character arc remains the same and Ron Hermione become best friends. Of course this would change many scenes and the storyline would've changed a lot as I already mentioned, but hey! At least we wouldn't have Ron haters who bash him for mAkInG hErMiOnE cRy. 🤡 And JKR could add different scenes instead of the ones hinting at Ron and Hermione's romantic relationship. We still would have had a beautiful story with a VERY SIMILAR dynamic.

4. "Harry wasn't the kind of guy Hermione was looking for. She already made a mistake with dating Viktor Krum, and she realized she didn't need a hero. She was a hero herself. Although Harry ≠ Viktor, they have very similar qualities like: bravery, loyalty and they are both heroes."

This is probably the best argument of the entire *almost* 5 minute video.

But there's still so much wrong with this.

Bravery and loyalty are literally Ron's best traits lmao. That's exactly why she chose him. 🤣 Every Romione shipper knows she doesn't value intelligence and looks, she values bravery, courage, loyalty. That's exactly what she said in the first book and stuck by it until the end.

She didn't need a hero? She was a hero herself? - Then why are we forgetting that Ron was also a hero? Everyone always makes it seem like Harry and Hermione are the mighty heroes and Ron is their goofy sidekick. He was also a hero! I believe he is even on the chocolate frog cards (correct me if I'm wrong)! And we all know that's the biggest flex. 😌

But besides that, Ron and Harry are very similar in many ways. They're both brave, they're both loyal, they both like to have fun, they're both lazy, they're both amazing at quidditch, they're both talented (Harry is very powerful and he's good at DADA, while Ron can do many impressive things like mimic voices and come up with quick solutions even when he's under pressure and his life depends on it!). So if Hermione liked one and thought he was her "type", then there's a hight possibility she liked the other too. In canon, she only likes Ron obviously, but I'm saying that since Ron and Harry are so similar and share the same traits, Hermione could've chosen Harry too.

Anyways, that's all that the video included, it was very nice hearing different opinions and I actually wasn't writing this out of anger like I wrote the post about defending Romione against *the ridiculously stupid* arguments that Dr*mione shippers like to use.

Once again, if it isn't clear, I STAN both Romione and Hinny, but Harmione definitely could've worked. :)
