It's about the imperfections. Someone once told me 'an empire is only as strong as its weakest member', and I think this movie for some reason really showcases that.

Because none of the creatures the HE created after Rocket and the batch 89 were personal. They were mass produced perfection, copies of copies of copies. Their sentience was carefully constructed by someone else - and so, they don't have what Rocket has. What the Batch 89 had.

Because the Batch 89 was a series of accidental successes. They weren't programmed. Their minds came out of nowhere.

Each of their imperfections molded them into what they were. Molded their personalities and hopes and dreams. Each one so miraculously different from each other. Every single one of them so incredibly flawed, so completely fucked up- and perfect.

Lylla chose her name because it was pretty and she would need one in the new world. Teef thought his teeth were the biggest there was and named himself after it. Floor liked to hop on the floor, so she chose it as her name. Rocket had a dream of taking them to a rocketship and fly towards the sky.

Hope, humour, comfort, dream. The four things one finds in a healthy family, and the four things that keep people from going insane in trying times.

I'm hoping I answered all of your questions; I got to a point of this sitting in my drafts where I just felt bad about how long it had been there, so I tried to be thorough but I wanted to get this out sooner rather than later. I mostly worked on this when I had a few spare moments between chapters, and then I said "screw it. This is getting done. TODAY."

So, for Cal, Rolan, Zevlor, and Dammon--let's go!

DISCLAIMER - I do not have children myself, nor have I ever been pregnant. So I shall do my best!

JUST IN CASE - A CONTENT WARNING: While writing these head canons, I did refer to the tiefling's partner as "you." If reading about being pregnant makes you uncomfortable for any reason, please be aware and be kind to yourself. I have zero doubt in my mind that I will be creating another head canon list, so if you need to pass or wait on this one, that's absolutely okay. Your mental health is important.

Cal

While Cal's partner is pregnant, he will do absolutely anything and everything to make sure they are comfortable. To say that he is doting is putting things very mildly.

He will make your favorite meals, will go out and get whatever you are craving (late night runs--not a problem), will rub your swollen ankles.

Too hot? He's asking Rolan for a cantrip scroll to fix it. Too cold? He's already piling you with blankets.

Are you feeling sick and nauseous? He's already prepping something for you to eat/drink that doesn't have an offensive smell.

And if it's a hard pregnancy? I don't see him leaving your side. If he does, he has Rolan create a sending stone set for the two of you so that you can reach out to him for anything and everything.

Honestly, he doesn't get far enough for him to even use the sending stones. He is looking for anything and everything to make the pregnancy easier on you. If he wasn't a light sleeper before, he is now because he doesn't want you to lay there in pain.

There may be points where he feels helpless because while he can do things to try and alleviate any physical discomfort, there are just times when he might just grasp at straws.

And, in situations where he can't alleviate your physical discomfort, he will do what he can to distract you.

He keeps his stress managed well enough, but that doesn't mean he won't snap at Lia or Rolan if he is too anxious. If he does get openly frustrated with them, it takes both off guard.

I also think he just holds you. A lot. Part of that is to comfort you, and the other part is to assure himself that everything will be okay.

If his partner is dealing with body image issues after giving birth, I see him being confused. You? The most enchanting person he has ever known?

Cut to him kissing you and holding you whenever possible. He'll ask Lia and Rolan to watch the baby whilst the two of you go on outings when your health permits. If it helps you to hear it, he'll remind you how lovely you are. Frequently. Hourly. Every five minutes? Not quite, but close enough.

Personally, I don't think his doting goes away after the pregnancy. And, if it is too much, it might make you feel like he views you as helpless.

If you give voice to this, he goes into immediate mediation mode. He will be extremely apologetic. He loves you and never wants you to think he perceives you as anything other than the phenomenal person you are.

Rolan

Ugh. My beloved.

He might be more stressed about having a child than you are.

He never anticipated being a father, and that might be for 15+ reasons, but he feels drastically unprepared (even if the pregnancy was planned).

He reads every. Single. Book. On pregnancy. He is the parent who gives himself nightmares when he reads about birthing complications.

Every sign of discomfort that you show is a catastrophe on the horizon.

And if it's a difficult pregnancy? Yeah. Dial that up by five notches.

He is preparing for all worst-case scenarios.

If it weren't for Cal and Lia keeping him in check, he would be safety-proofing everything in the tower.

He crafts sending stones so you can call for him if you need anything. ANYTHING.

But also, he starts shadowing midwives and asking lots of questions. If the worst were to happen and you couldn't reach a professional, he wants to be there to help you.

After giving birth, I see him splitting his anxiety between your health/recovery and the baby's overall well-being.

"The baby sneezed. That might indicate five different lethal illnesses. I'm fetching the cleric."

This is another situation where you, Cal, and Lia might have to remind him that, yes, babies do sometimes sneeze, and not everything that lands in the diaper spells doom.

Rolan might not initially understand why you're feeling self-conscious about any weight gain. Of course you're lovely. Also, isn't that what happens with pregnancies? (His words--not mine).

He assures you that you're lovely, but words might not be enough here. He might shove his foot in his mouth while trying to make the situation better.

But the best thing for him to do is remind you, repeatedly, that you are lovely. And that might not have been something he was accustomed to even saying to you prior to you conceiving. He would assume you knew that he was attracted to you.

It honestly might be the strangest (and most endearing) thing to have him say "You look very lovely today. Yes, even with the baby's spit up on your shirt."

Zevlor

*nervously staring at the tiefling I am the most unsure about writing.*

Zevlor has been through some of the most heinous things that can be thrown at someone. He is a seasoned soldier. A Hellrider. Surely he can help his partner through pregnancy. After all, there were plenty of soldiers in the barracks who has pregnant spouses. He's heard enough stories that he feels prepared.

He survived the Elturel's Descent. It's possible that he helped safeguard someone who was in the middle of giving birth or guided expecting parents to safety. Maybe he had to fight off the devil's skulking the streets if they caught wind/heard that person enduring birthing pains?

So maybe, he thinks, he has already seen some of the worst births ever. Maybe, he thinks, in this time of relative peace, in this home that he and his love have created, it'll be easier?

My personal headcanon for Zevlor is that he put EVERYTHING into being a Hellrider/paladin. It was his life. It was his every breathing moment. And when he became an oathbreaker, it destroyed him. His life was devoted to protecting others, and he feels that he failed in the worst of ways possible.

He certainly had friends and very possibly family that he would see on occasion, but I think that, if you didn't fight alongside him/live in the barracks too, you very likely didn't see much of him.

So maybe he has heard a great deal about pregnancies. And maybe he knows about the complicated ones--just a bit. But he himself is at a loss for when his partner tells him that they are pregnant.

Is he excited? Absolutely. Is he terrified. Oh yeah.

Regardless of how complicated the pregnancy is, he is nervous. He is worried that he will slip up in all the ways that matter, and he is terrified of letting you down.

He's a soldier though, and he prepares for everything.

He has additional blankets and pillows next to the bed.

Hot and cold compresses are ready to go.

He makes sure that he accounts for your cravings whenever shopping.

He has medicine for when the pain is severe. And when the medicine doesn't cut it, he tries his best to distract you--his mileage varies.

And this man adores you. So after the pregnancy, if you are feeling self-conscious, he will worship your body.

Dammon

I could see Cal and Dammon both being very doting, but Dammon would be juggling the forge and helping you.

If you spent a lot of time in the forge with him prior to pregnancy but find that being in there now makes you feel ill, he will absolutely feel lonelier. He is definitely the sort of person who gets very absorbed in his work, and I think this makes him feel guilty. Especially if he feels like him being there could have made things easier for you.

He becomes a meal prep king. Will cook several comfort meals for you to eat while he is working.

Massages swollen ankles and feet and anything else.

While he might have worked later hours in the forge before, he makes a point to wrap things up sooner to spend evenings with you.

That doesn't mean he isn't nervous--you're about to have a child, and he does worry if there will be enough money.

He worries that if he does slow down, commissions will dry up, and then where will that leave the three of you?

If the pregnancy is difficult, he feels guilty for leaving you alone and looks for hundreds of ways to make things easier.

Eventually, he creates a small sitting space for you near the doorway to the shop itself. It's not so close to the forge that you'll be uncomfortably hot or so close that the smell will make you sick, and he sets up a small tarp to create some shade.

If you helped Dammon in the forge before the pregnancy, he is likely hesitant to have you come back and immediately help. Especially if the birth was difficult.

But what you need, more than anything from him, is time

And Dammon wants to be a parent who is present in your life and the baby's, so he does everything to be there.

But money is still a stressor. And he might worry about you being in the forge again. So he's stressed on all fronts.

And while I don't see him commenting or changing how he treats his partner because of weight change, I do see him being VERY reluctant to have you work in the forge with him.

And this may lead to an argument. You know he is stressed about commissions and being there for you and the baby, but you still want to help.

So Dammon dials it back several notches and agrees that you know your body best. So long as you feel comfortable working in the forge, and so long as you listen to your body, the two of you can start it from there.

And it gets easier to balance the forge and child rearing. While the baby isn't allowed close to the open heat/flame until they fully understand why they must be careful (and until their lungs are developed), you and Dammon create a small swing/play area nearby.

My Murder Drones Finale Analysis... 2/2 - 1/2

jesus, imagine getting your entire life force RIPPED out your body, and being able to look back at it. i feel like this is only a taste of what the dissassembly drones went through during transformation.

i realize now that Uzi’s protecting her core from Cyn’s callback pings in all the times she’s grabbing at her chest, but at first i really thought she was terrified of losing her core again. which: UNDERSTANDABLE GIRLIE!! MY heart?? broke.

so, N did see the actual Cyn while he got tore open. and now he’s having proper trauma flashbacks and getting back bits and pieces. this absolutely breaks my heart, seeing how desperately panicked he gets, watching memories of what i’m only assuming is V being transformed. my sweet baby. for a moment i thought for sure he was going into a full panic attack. it’s a good thing hand holding pulled him out of a full on episode, but i think this man deserves a nice big breakdown after everything to process all the shit he’s been through. pretty sure V needs the same thing, having held onto these memories a whole lot longer. post series group therapy sesh?

oh god. when V realizes that she’s only led N to his death… and that this long ago promise was only one big trick… everything falls down around her. she desperately grasps at being able to fix this. she blames herself. as Eternal Dream plays in the background… it was always their song, man. it was always V singing to N. so many of the lyrics fucking HURT now, putting it into this bittersweet context.

“let my body keep you warm, let my essence be your breeze, can you hear me calling? please look out for me. can you set me free?” it was always a love letter to N. (platonically. i see it platonically, better yet, in a sibling way.) the wishes she had for him to know everything. for them to be together. for her to not have to hide. to go home, to be set free from her neverending dream. it’s all so horrible and lovely and poetic to me. she deserves everything. they deserve everything.

and then her expressions as Cyn’s about to eat N’s heart, agonizingly slowly, staring her straight in the eyes so mockingly to pour salt in the colossal gaping wound. HEGGDHHSGSGGH💔

on a side note, i find it so interesting how, seemingly, a drone’s core magnetically gets yanked back to the body as soon as it gets a tiny chance. very ehm… helpful.

i’ll admit, i was so confused from the black hole scene at first. but now i understand somewhat. after uzi grabbed her core and formed a [null,] she essentially had cyn’s life force. all those times she got away by turning herself into a black hole and floating off... that was essentially HER. in the void here, cyn had to try and get it back to come back to the living, like a drone putting their core back in their chest but in a weird, eltrich cyn way, i guess? instead of her core, its the manifestation of the solver itself? cyn’s and tessa’s bodies are so far gone, that all that’s left is the solver? and as soon as uzi saw what was happening, she knew she couldn’t have it back.

she fucking eated it…. homph. that was not on cyn’s bingo card. the eyes are HILARIOUS

I saw what you posted about rocket and decided to send you a request. This contains spoilers for Guardians of the Galaxy V3 so if you haven't watched the movie then maybe you will not understand what the request is about.

I was thinking of a scientist that worked with the High Evolutionary but treated rocket and his friends very well (but could not let them escape because then the high evolutionary would kill them or something like that).

Also could you please do it as an interaction between the characters (with dialog)

You helplessly watched as the high evolutionary brought in new "experiments" Every day, seeing all these cute animals going through so much pain and hearing their little squeals of pain was enough to send shivers down your spine. Seeing the latest subjects, you had enough of seeing them in pain and seeing them scared. So late into the night, you gently snuck into the cages where they kept them.

You managed to find the latest subjects including 89Q12 and 89P13. You gently opened the cage and saw how scared they were. Hiding in the corner, away from you. Thinking it's going to happen all over again.

"Shhh shhh... It's ok little ones, I'm not here to hurt you" You softly smiled as you pulled out some treats you found on the way.

"Your... Your kind" 89Q12 said.

"I'm so sorry that Sire has to put you all through these pointless experiments. I wish I could do more to help all of you" You said sadly, If Sire were to find out you helped them... the consequences would be severe.

"It's ok friend... this can be... a secret !!" the walrus spoke up happily.

"Of course... yes, this is our little secret ok ??"

"Secret, secret, secret !!" A bunny crawled out of the cage and went up to you. the others following suit.

Then there was 89P13, Who still looked very scared.

"It's ok" You softly smiled at him.

He stayed hesitant for a little while until he got up, walking slowly toward you, you grew sad seeing all the components and metal rods sticking out of him. He gently walked to you and saw your open hand, he placed his paw gently on it, and you began to rub it gently with your thumb.

He never felt this soft tenderness during the times of his experiments. He softly leant into it and soon, snuggled up to you.

"It's ok little on, I got you" You gently rubbed his tiny forearm.

"Thank you... friend." He said softly.

"Of course"

Over time, you snuck to the cages every night, offering them love and affection. Away from all the torture and pain. Offering them cuddles and gentle play.

You played peek-a-boo with 89P13. hiding your face behind your hands.

"Where did you go, friend ??" He giggled

You then reemerged from your hands, showing your face again.

"There you are !!" He shouted happily as the others giggled as well seeing you interact with him.

"That was fun 89P13..."

"Oh oh, I have a name too !!!!, It's rocket !!" He declared happily as the others told their names. 89Q12 was now Lylla, The walrus was Teefs and the bunny was called floor.

"My my, these are all very unique names. I love all of them, they all suit you so well" You smiled as you gently brought them all in.

"Thank you... It really is good to have friends."

A lotta shit went down recently and it got me thinking. You ever feel like you're not as in control of something as you thought you were? We went up against a Sith today. Think like Jedi, but unimaginably evil. He wanted information.....and I tried so kriffing hard....but I gave it up. He ripped the information right outta my kriffing head. My own thoughts....just ripped right out of my mind. I couldn't help it. I betrayed my brothers. My own mind betrayed me. You ever feel as if your own thoughts are against you? Rex says I'm not a traitor, but I feel like one. I thought I had more control than that. I thought I had more discipline. I'm so sorry, babe. I know I said I'd be home by now, but duty calls and like a good soldier does, I've got to answer.

"Okay, Y/N, I have to take your brother to soccer practice, so Rudy's gonna take you to get your wisdom teeth out." Her mom says.

"Wh-- what? Why?" Y/N asks.

"I just told you why. Your dad's busy, he's the only one that can take you." She says.

"What, am I so bad?" Rudy asks.

"No, but mom won't record me and use it for blackmail." Y/N grumbles.

"I'm appalled you'd think I would do anything of the sort." Rudy puts his hand on his chest. Y/N rolls his eyes. "Okay, I-I may record you, but zero blackmail. Promise. I'm nicer than that."

"Are you?" Y/N questions.

"Yes." Rudy says. "Who let you go nuts when hitting Henning with pillows after he stuck gum in your hair?"

"You." She remembers.

"Exactly. See? You are safe in my hands." Rudy promises, patting her on top of the head.

They're in the waiting room and Rudy is mindlessly flipping through a magazine.

"You good?" Rudy asks, glancing at her.

"Mm-hmm." Y/N nods.

"Not nervous?" Rudy asks.

"Nope." She shakes her head.

"Then, uh... why has your leg been shaking for the past five minutes?" Rudy asks.

Y/N looks down at her leg, immediately stopping.

"I didn't get all my energy out earlier." Y/N says, pulling her leg onto the seat and hugging it to her chest.

"You'll be fine, squirt. You go in, they numb you up, send you unconscious, then when you wake up, you're hopefully super entertaining while loopy and I get a good laugh today. Zero pain." Rudy says. "We'll get mom or dad to deal with all the blood and changing gauze out and stuff cause I sure as hell ain't doing that."

"What, you don't love me?" Y/N asks.

"Not enough for that." Rudy grimaces.

"Y/N Pankow." A nurse calls.

Y/N immediately looks up to Rudy, a scared look in her eyes.

"You'll be okay." He quietly assures. "I'll be right here when you get out." He promises, kissing her on the head.

Rudy is talking to the nurse who is explaining what Y/N can eat and other things to take care of her. He looks up when he sees movement and a nurse leads Y/N out into the waiting room.

"Oh. Wow. You look, um... unhappy." Rudy comments, seeing the upset look on her face.

"They took my teef." Y/N pouts, putting her hands on her cheeks.

"Yeah, but that's okay. They just took your teeth cause the teeth were hurting you." Rudy says.

"But they're my teeth!" She cries.

"Okay." Rudy mumbles as she falls against him and he wraps his arm around her. The nurse gives Rudy some papers about information and after Rudy leads Y/N out.

"I want my teef back!" Y/N cries.

"Hey, you got 'em in a little box. When you're sober and got more brain cells you can decide if you wanna keep them." Rudy says.

"They took my brain cells?" Y/N panics.

"No. No, no, no, squirt, they-- they just took your wisdom teeth. The drugs took your brain cells." Rudy says.

"What?!"

"No. No, I-I'm sorry. You're fine. I promise." Rudy says.

"I want my teddy bear." She cries as Rudy helps her into the passenger seat.

"Okay, we-- we can get you your teddy bear when we get home." Rudy tells her. She slouches in the seat a little, pouting. Rudy buckles her up before shutting the door and getting in the driver's seat.

Rudy is driving and Y/N has mostly just been babbling to herself. Rudy glances over when he hears her sniffle.

"Y/N? Hey, what's wrong?" Rudy asks.

"I don't know." She sobs.

Rudy glances at her, pulling into the parking lot of a store. He puts the car in park before unbuckling and turning to her.

"What's up?" He asks.

"Growing up is scary." She cries.

"Uh... I-- yeah, okay." Rudy mumbles.

"I just wanna go back to being five and playing with my dolls and soccer with you guys." Y/N says, tears streaming down her face. "Being a teenager is stupid."

"C'mere." Rudy pulls her into a hug as much as he can over the center console. Her head rests on his chest, his hand on her head, lightly scratching her head. "I know it's scary and freaky... terrifying. But it's not always the worst thing. There's some good stuff. Maybe you're clueless now, but you'll figure it out someday. Besides, you got mom and dad and me... plus your least two favorite brothers." He smile a little.

Y/N pulls away, sniffling, and she reaches up, squishing his cheeks with one of her hands.

"I love you." She tells him.

Rudy softly laughs, pulling her hand away from his face.

"I love you, too, squirt." Rudy ruffles her hair. He wipes her tears before kissing her on the forehead. "And you wanna know the good thing about wisdom teeth removal?"

"What?" She sniffles.

"You get to eat all of the ice cream in the world." Rudy states. "Hmm?" Y/N smiles and nods. "So we go home, we change your gauze out, get some ice cream, and watch whatever the hell you want.

"Wizard of Oz?" Y/N asks.

"Wizard of Oz while you're doped up on pills? Yeah, no, should be fun." Rudy mumbles to himself.

They get home and Rudy helps Y/N to the couch, gently setting her down on it.

"All right." Rudy sets up the pillows for her to lay down when she wants to.

"My mouth hurts." Y/N frowns.

"Yeah, and that's what these goodies are for." Rudy takes the bottle of pills out of his pocket and shakes them. "Not too good, though. Only good for however long you're recovering from wisdom teeth. Then you're cut off."

"Yeah, yeah, yeah. Don't become a drug addict." Y/N mumbles.

Rudy gives her a couple of pills and a glass of water and she downs them.

"All right, uh... we're the only ones home so... I gotta change your gauze out." Rudy says, grimacing a little.

"You don't love me enough, though." Y/N whines.

"Yeah, well, sometimes life is a bitch." Rudy says, shrugging. "Okay, open your mouth. No biting, please."

He gently pries Y/N's mouth open and grimaces in disgust as he takes the bloodied gauze out.

"Oh, my God! I'm dying!" Y/N panics seeing the amount of blood.

"No. No. No, you're not dying. This is a perfectly acceptable amount of blood." Rudy promises.

"I don't wanna die, Ru." Y/N whines.

"You're not dying. I promise." Rudy tells her. He throws the gauze away. "Okay. Fresh, new, clean cotton balls. Come on." He gently holds her jaw open with one hand while carefully sticking the gauze in her mouth.

"There we go." Rudy pats her on the head. He washes his hands before putting The Wizard of Oz in.

"Okay. You all set?" Rudy asks her and she nods. "All right." He mumbles, sitting next to her. Y/N leans closer to him, cuddling into his side. Rudy wraps his arm around her, kissing her on the head before resting his cheek against her head.
