reposting a meta i did under someone else's post bc people have been asking me to psychoanalyse aomine or kagami and i think nobody saw this one :( anyway @cemetery14 's original post is here!
Tumblr media
jumping on for a second to talk about this bc it's so important to me. i'm not trying to mansplain aomine daiki here but his attitude is one of my fav parts of knb so pls excuse me if i say something obvious HSDHSDJH
just as a preface, i spoke about aomine's sense of security in the people he loves HERE, in the context of my aokaga fics. it's mostly hc because it talks about his parents whom we don't get to see in canon, but i'm fairly confident in this analysis to discuss this angle without referencing to that. i founded the parent hcs on how he acts with momoi.
SO. let's discuss aomine's relationships first and foremost. in the series, aomine refers to THREE people by their first names, and he does it exclusively when he feels comfortable and/or friendly with someone enough that they've earnt it. unlike with some of the other characters, he doesn't do it to get a rise out of anyone by assuming familiarity, and he doesn't do it to make fun.
he calls kuroko tetsu when kuroko proves that not only does he love basketball as much as he does, but that he's a good person and someone aomine feels he can trust. even when they fall out, even when aomine believes that kuroko must hate him, and he wants to hate kuroko for his naive view of basketball, he still calls him tetsu. he doesn't waver at all, not around other people, or shouting his name at the top of his lungs from the back of an arena. kuroko is tetsu. it's a badge of honour.
momoi is his childhood best friend and someone he does not believe will ever leave. she is, and has been for over ten years by the time the show starts, satsuki. in my view, he treats momoi as one would a sister, almost, because he treats her honestly pretty badly with no expectation that she's taking him seriously. he's surprised when he makes her cry (like in the rain when she's suggesting he pull out of a competition due to injury), because yeah he's calling her ugly and telling her to fuck off and all of that, but there's an unbreakable bond underlying his meanness that aomine trusts won't break. he shouldn't treat his friends like this, but i'm just trying to come at this from his perspective. he expresses his love for her quietly, but it's there.
as i said in my linked hc post, aomine does not believe that he has to do anything special in order to earn the love of those he trusts. he does not believe that their love is conditional, he does not think that it's linked to his skill or status as a prodigy. for better or for worse, he feels known by these people, and therefore, he's immature about responsibilities and regularly acts up around the people he loves. he ditches people, he shirks chores, and he genuinely does not care about annoying or bothering people.
and now we come to sakurai. aomine and sakurai have a faaascinating dynamic. they're classmates as well as teammates, but i'd love to know how they started talking. neither of them have the kind of personality to just sit next to the other bc they're in basketball club together. sakurai appears skittish, insecure, wet, pathetic, we love you sakurai but you have a reputation. and it's bullshit. sakurai's "drawback", what makes him look weak in the eyes of those around him, is in his need to please others. he takes it bitterly personally when he does something wrong, or he believes he does something wrong, quickly reducing to tears and the classic "i'm sorry! i'm sorry! i don't want to live! i deserve to die!" spiel he usually descends to. but in clutch mode, in his favourite sport, sakurai can be just as arrogant as the rest of touou. he has the confidence to make threes against strong opponents instead of just passing to the prodigal ace. he wants to score points. he isn't interested in proving himself to anyone, he already knows that he's great.
sakurai's actual personality, rather than his perceived one, is probably what draws aomine to him. i can very easily imagine that they're in a game early on, and sakurai looks like he's about to get into trouble with the opposing team who are picking on him a little. but instead of crumbling, he gives them the most disgraceful look of disrespect, and scores an amazing three. it's a moment like that which would make aomine interested, and as he pays more attention, he'd notice other things he also would like. sakurai is kind, he loves basketball, and he is not afraid of aomine. he's not afraid of his skill, however much he is impressed by it, and he doesn't see aomine is someone to prove himself to or compete with. sakurai honestly doesn't seem like he thinks about aomine much at all. which aomine would like. he's also a great cook. again, my idea is that they were eating together, and aomine is looming because he kinda wants to make friends but isn't quite sure yet, and sakurai offers him a little food. you know, like the neighbourhood cat? anyway. once he's had some, he wants to have more, and so, a friendship occurs.
sakurai's food making is one of his more beloved traits in his team, and everyone is comfortable enough with him to snatch and steal etc. like wakamatsu eating all the fucking lemons so aomine wouldn't get any. my fav team. stupid idiots. there are instances were sakurai expresses that he wishes they wouldn't (like the cursed replace novel where aomine eats all sakurai's food he made for the team during a study session to do aomine's homework, without him knowing, and when he discovers an empty fridge, he starts crying and has to be comforted), but overall his protestations are, in my opinion, coming from modesty rather than actual discomfort. sakurai is a strong enough person not to have people walk all over him, he simply doesn't mind being useful to a team he has grown to love and respect.
sakurai is the third person aomine refers to by his first name. sakurai earns this in his basketball skill, he earns it in how he stares fearlessly and disgracefully at nonbelieving opponents. the food definitely helps, but aomine wouldn't have just stolen a stranger's food. he doesn't view sakurai as weak. he doesn't bully him. wakamatsu may think that aomine is bullying him or taking advantage of him, but aomine isn't like that. he doesn't take advantage of the weak, he protects them. like the lady's bag getting snatched. like fighting haizaki when he knew his friends couldn't (not that he thinks they're weak, it's just that their hands were tied). i don't think i've seen him ever take advantage of anyone like that. he certainly takes advantage of friendships as i've mentioned above, but it feels different to me. idk maybe i'm just an aomine excuser at this point. it'll happen again.
for someone who doesn't sincerely smile much, btw, look at how he is in that scene with sakurai:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
sakurai: but... this is... aomine: huh? sakurai: sorry, go ahead!
i think this dialogue is less aomine bullying his way into sakurai's bento, and more sakurai realising that the neighbourhood cat is getting more comfortable with him. would he have told him to get lost? probably not. but he doesn't move away when aomine's near, and he isn't flinching or worried about anything bad happening. if anything, his eyes closing when aomine's draped all over him shows, to me, that he's sort of accepting his fate, bc he knows aomine's not gonna do anything but take the good bits of his bento (not a bully. wakamatsu. please calm down). in fact, look at aomine's reaction when wakamatsu tries defending sakurai, whom he believes is getting kinda bullied here:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
first, he checks on sakurai. look, he's fine. sakurai cries at everything, he's calm here. he hasn't overstepped any boundaries. but to me, aomine's first words being a reply to wakamatsu's claims that he should be at practise, and not about stealing food, suggests that aomine hasn't actually considered that he could be doing anything wrong enough to rile wakamatsu up this much. it has gotta be about coming to practise. he stops eating sakurai's bento and tries to leave. i think he'd probably be embarrassed by the idea that he could bully anyone. mean as he is, selfish as he is, aomine's good at heart. he'd definitely think his whole team was stupid as fuck if they believed that aomine would bully sakurai, or degrade him in any way. aomine's just showing that he's comfortable with him in the only way he tends to: by being a little shit.
phew! aomine brain dump out of the way. let's discuss haizaki more briefly because haizaki is a lot of fun, but he's not as fun to talk about as aomine.
i think it's a super interesting, deliberate choice to introduce aomine as a nuisance and then haizaki as a nuisance in a similar setting. aomine's food stealing, to me, looks like it's founded on habit and friendship. he doesn't view sakurai as weak and pathetic, and i think already by that point is calling him ryou, so they're solid friends. aomine is a definite loner and doesn't seem to want friends, but ryou is one of them. one of three, as i mentioned, whom he refers to by first name.
haizaki's entrance in the food hall is different because he doesn't have that base level of friendship with kuroko at all. from memory, he calls people by their first names and it makes them uncomfortable. that's likely why he does it. he is big on disrupting the balance of things. i know he hates the generation of miracles, i know he hates team play and friendship dynamics (likely because he finds it difficult to relate to people like that, and to forgive when someone does something that he finds annoying or weak). haizaki does prey on the weak. he's a menace to women walking around at night, he's a menace to kise in their match (his views on kise are super interesting but i don't wanna get into them now, but he does view kise as weak). and he definitely thinks kuroko's weak. it's no surprise that he targets kuroko's plate (this is all from memory so i'm hoping i'm right lmao).
haizaki's food stealing is a power play. look at what i can do, i can take what i want. you can't do shit about it. when called out for it, he says this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(mido said fuck YOUUUUU aomine) now, i don't think this is actually haizaki believing that aomine is doing it for the same reasons he is. i don't think haizaki gives a shit, and he just sees aomine making a fuss and wants to cause trouble. (side note: aomine's i only take when i'm hungry is so funny. he's saying i'm DYING before i steal from my friends!!! that's so stupid. he's such a pain. but he's never going to say "i only steal from my best friends" because that is crazy talk, this is still aomine, whether he's 12 or whatever.)
murasakibara complains, drawing himself into haizaki's zone of interest, and then haizaki shows he doesn't give a fuck by talking only of the food. i am SURE there are translation issues to be taken into consideration, but haizaki's word choice at face value is: a) your fried chicken looks good too, b) that's mine now. essentially: the fuck are you gonna do about it? he likely doesn't view mura as weak, i think here he's just willing to fight for it. mura plays defence and haizaki loses interest.
Tumblr media
haizaki seeks to remind them that he isn't emotionally invested in any of this shit, he just takes what he wants to because he can. it's a power play, and everyone knows it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the fact that it's aomine putting up a fight about not stealing food is telling to how different they are. it doesn't matter that aomine thinks he only steals when he's hungry so it's alright, if he even does view it like that at all (aomine has a history of talking shit and lying sooo). aomine sets them apart by making it clear that he doesn't have any ulterior motives. haizaki is very quick to announce that he does. he isn't doing it because he has to, he's stealing and being a general menace because he wants to. and he tends to target either those he views as weak, or those he knows will fight him.
i wonder why he didn't take from akashi? i wonder whether it's a testament to nijimura's fighting skills or that haizaki didn't fight back when nijimura beat him up?
anyway. i'm so sorry i wrote an essay on your post. i love this topic obviously and i'm critically insane.

A small talk about the creepypasta Sally williams and the fandom itself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
( TW: OPINION?!?!?! )
As we all know the creepypasta fandom was never perfect, it had its ups and downs. Thus I wanna talk about a character that we all love. Sally.
Sally was created in 2012 and she is a young girl at the age of 12. She firstly was 8 but her creator changed her age to 12 to reasons that I don't want to discuss since they're messed up. Her backstory is truly heartbreaking. She is represented to be a lively, happy and caring young child. She has a teddy bear that's she loves and loves sweets and the color pink.
Now that you know a little information about her, what I wanna talk about is the fandoms problem. The fandom has always been broken, there has always been questionable and wrong stuff in it about litterly anything, even about the characters themselves. And Sally is a victim to that.
From the first time I came into the fandom I saw weird stuff about Sally, questionable art, weird headcannons, wrong ships and the list goes on. She is a child, a minor, she's 12.
"She's a fictional character! " she's still a minor, her being fictional doesn't excuse your weird posts about her nor your weird ships.
Also the ships, she shouldn't be shippen with anyone.
"Sally x Ben" "Sally x toby" "Sally x Jeff" all of those are problematic and any ships with Sally is problematic. Be better and do better and actually make this fandom be an enjoyable place because it can also influence new comers. If a new person joins the fandom and they see wrong stuff they're gonna think it's normal when it's not.
Some people need to realise that "Sally x Ben" is extremely problematic since there is an age difference and also any ship with her is. Also some people need to stop condoning and supporting people that do these stuff, it's sick and wrong.
This isn't a thing that happens to only Sally, it has happened to more characters sadly, it is one of the reasons people leave the Fandom.
The fandom has became a toxic place and there are a lot of new people coming in, mostly children, that want to be in a friendly fandom but all they get is a hit in the face with the cruelty of it. It is not the first time it has been toxic and won't be the last but can we at least try to make it a place we can enjoy? New fans are mostly children, like I said, if they see this kind of behavior and these kind of posts they're going to think it's normal and that'll be a bad influence on them. I know every fandom has its ups and downs and not everyone can be pleased but the fandom used to be so lively and so open minded.
I've seen people judging one another for "wrong headcannons" like... That's what a headcannons is, what YOU think the character does. According to the fandom:
Toby can't be happy ( or any happy emotion )
The creeps can't have a stable relationship
The creeps are abusive
You're not allowed to ship characters that aren't canonical partners
If you don't add Toby's stutter and tics ( in a fic or somewhere else ) apparently you're äbléist
^ BUT if you do somehow you're cringe
If you don't laugh at the fanon jokes you aren't a real fan
You aren't allowed to remind ppl that Sally is a killer too
I'm sorry but what. All of these things are ruining the fandom and that's why many people leave. We wonder why the place is so bad but no one is speaking up nor doing anything about it and the people that do get torn to shreds ( not actually ) by the "fans".
Like I wanted to start this small rant with Sally cuz sadly she is one of the most séggsualized characters in the fandom.
I also want to bring awareness to the MASSIVE BULLYING IN THIS PLACE. Like I said a thousand times already, literal children join the fandom and instead of being greeted warmly they get bullied. They are new, they aren't going to know everything from 2016 to now because frankly I wouldn't know either in a new fandom. Instead of bullying them why not help them? Tell them fun facts about their fav char or help them not spread misinformation.

I've been so freaking obsessed with Evan Rosier/Percy Weasley time travel fic.
Starts out as a Voldemort wins AU and Percy time travels to the past, ends up about 16/17 and back in Hogwarts, sorted into Slytherin, he doesn't know shit about Voldemort or how to prevent the war, so he does the only logical thing he can. Becomes a better alternative to Voldemort. Yup, straight up Percy Weasley cult, yes I'm doing that :P
It takes a while, but most of the other students are more or less on board, except Evan Rosier. He's hanging around because his friends are all enamoured, but he's suspicious, he doesn't trust Percy. Percy thinks he's hot c: Evans emotionally constipated self thinks Percy is hot too :p but very sus and he doesn't trust easy
So basically Percy has to change the future by forcing the Hogwarts population into therapy, becoming a sort of accidental cult leader, joining the pta and uniting with parents in ways that change actually happens even if they don't like some things he says, changing some of the dumb things the teachers do, changing the gryffindor bias, promoting interhouse unity and all that fun stuff :D
Yk like litte things that change everything
His and Evans dynamic is kinda like
Evan: *shaking the front of Percy's robes* I don't know who the fuck you are, or what you're playing at but I'm going easy on you because my friends like you. But you so much as stub their toe, you are dead, do you hear me?
Percy: That's nice, mind the robes will you? They're new. Unlike some people I can't afford buying new ones for every idiot who randomly decides to assault me.
Evan: You kissed Mulciber?
Percy: What of it
Evan: No- I just- Mulciber? He's probably got some- I don't know, infectious disease!
Percy: If I didn't know better I'd think you wanted to kiss me.
Evan: *spluttering*
Evan: Why were you hanging around with Snape
Percy: *flipping page of his book* We were discussing the importance of media literacy in charged political climates
Evan: *darkly* Of course you were.
Percy: Is there a problem?
Barty: *popping up out of nowhere with a suggestive eyebrow wiggle at Evan* Yeah, why are you bothering him Evan, it's like your obsessed :)
Evan: I am not obsessed! I just- I- I just think maybe his lordship shouldn't leave everyone out of interesting discussions!
Barty: Seriously.
Percy: Actually, that's a good point Rosier. Thank you for pointing that out. How about tomorrow we properly launch debate club! I'll go ask professor Slughorn, Rosier will you assist me?
Evan: *dying inside* Whatever. I don't have anything else that I'm doing so like- yeah
Evan doesn't know why the fuck Percy is crying but he gets it. He gets what it's like and he doesn't trust him, can't trust him, can't make that shrivelled little thing inside him reach out and accept someone new, but he can understand. And he holds him. And Percy cries into his jumper until he's asleep and then Evan tells himself he should go, he shouldn't be here, it feels so wrong to see this boy so vulnerable and trusting but he stays and in the morning they don't talk about it. In the morning Avery fawns a little as he pours milk in Percy's cereal and he sneers just the same as usual, a hufflepuff asks for Percy's thoughts on rock music and he scoffs and rolls his eyes the same as usual but he finds himself checking if Percy actually eats the food they give him, seeing the dark circles under the redheads eyes, seeing the smudged and filled up schedule he keeps worrying over
ASDFGHJKL I CAN'T GET OVER THEM PLS
oh sounds neat
ngl I don't really know anything about Evan because I'm not a Marauder girlie like at all
Death Eaters are honestly my least favorite people to pair with Percy personally and there's not many that I do actively like
so i don't tend to pay them much attention unless i find them interesting for some other reason
because as anyone who's been here long enough can probably tell i have a hard time caring about characters unless i can tie them back to Percy in some way or another
but regardless yeah Percy and Time travel are two of my favorite fic genres so i could see the appeal
Percy trying to start a cult himself is very funny though
like at this point he just doesn't know what else to try so he's just kind of like fuck it i guess ill try this
it is neat because Evan's the only one seemingly suspicious and in a way his suspicions are right like Percy is 100% up to something its just that the something isn't actually a bad thing really
Also your writing him so jealous thats always fun

omg step up dance movie my beloved. And you're so right, the dynamic of rich snooty ballet dancer and not rich hip hop dancer from "the wrong side of the tracks" is so dream/hob. the hip hop dancer character feels like it fits hob so well too bc it's like. The feeling and expression of self in hip hop is... Very different from the strict rules and standards of ballet. Hob doesn't hate ballet, but he didn't grow up with it, not being from a particularly wealthy background. And he does feel hip hop is a superior form of dance in that it is so much more... Free. And honest and raw and real. Less tense over rehearsed painful movements and more flowing authentic and human.
Dream however. He could not disagree more. He doesn't even consider "hip hop" or "street" dancing as real dancing. Real dancing is practised, incredibly difficult routines and strict schedules (not just around rehearsing but eating too). Real dance is something you devote your whole life to, not something you do for fun in your free time (whatever that is) with your friends (another concept dream isn't very familiar with). Has he actually deigned to watch any hip hop dance? Don't be silly, he doesn't have time to waste on something so frivolous.
Dream turned up early (as usual) for practise before classes and scheduled rehearsal time. He assumed the studio would be empty as it usually was at this hour, however walking down the hall the sound of ... Heavy bass and a seductive rhythm with lyrics to match spilled out from his studio (okay it's technically not his but no one else uses it nearly as much as him so it might as well be) down the corridor. Dream slows down, curious, if a little annoyed, that his early morning extra practice was going to be delayed in the least. When he gets to the door what he sees stops him dead and makes his mouth fall open. What this man is doing with his body is... Unholy to say the least but dream can also appreciate the muscle control and timing displayed here from a technical stand point. Of course he isn't observing for any other reason. Not bc the way this man's hips move is hypnotic and quite frankly down right sinful. Dream becomes aware that he's staring and has inexplicably started to grow hard, which his legging do very little to conceal.
Anyway pretty please share anything that dreamling step up makes you think of !!! I would be forever grateful 🙏💞
AJSJDJFJDBD YEAH <333
Absolutely love this. I'm imagining that Hob notices that Dream is there and the two of them immediately get into an argument about who booked the studio to use, which devolves into Dream saying "your dance form is ridiculous and foolish so you should just give me the studio" and Hob is like??? WHAT??? He can't believe anyone would be so rude but he's got to fight back. He tells Dream that ballet isn't even that hard, anyone can do it if they're rich enough.
Dream runs at Hob, intending to demonstrate that Hob won't even be able to catch him - let alone do a lift. But he's very surprised when Hob grabs him by the hips and effortlessly shifts him into a fucking angel lift.
Dream is unmistakably hard and blushing. Hob is like "You shouldn't have done that, you didn't know that I wouldn't drop you" and Dream can't even SPEAK. He decides to graciously allow Hob to finish his practice session (while he sneakily watches from the side of the studio). Hob keeps smirking him in the mirror and Dream genuinely has to cross his legs to avoid being caught with a major boner in his leggings.
He later discovers that Hob has quite a big following online for his dance videos and tutorials. He stays up way too late (far out of his usual strict schedule) watching Hob dance. He is undeniably beautiful and talented but more than anything he looks so happy! He looks like he's enjoying himself, like he enjoys his own body and what he can do with it. He wears baggy track pants for most of his routines but Dream is still convinced that he's caught a glimpse of a very impressive bulge.
Not to mention that Hob occasionally dances shirtless... and that some of his videos are more thirst trap than dance...
So what can Dream do but show up at the same time next week to see Hob all over again? Hob seems pretty thrilled to see him, anyway. He even offers to share his breakfast (another big step outside of routine for Dream, who hasn't eaten a store bought pastry for... a very long time). And when Dream gets up to start his practice, Hob settles in to watch with a wink.
"You had an opportunity to thirst over me. Now I'm repaying the favour. I want you to show me why ballet is the superior form."
And Dream has never been able to resist a challenge...

May I ask where the complicated feelings for the newest nightbringer chapters come from (polite way of phrasing "Plz tell me all your thoughts")
Tumblr media
I guess it feels like less of a fun, coherent story that has now become a series of contrived, nonsensical events that exist only to move the plot from Point A to Point B in the easiest (if awkward/inelegant) way possible.
If I had to summarize my thoughts:
I don't like Mephisto's make-a-wish ability. It seems OP for what it is, but of course he has it because the plot needs him to have it to achieve things that probably wouldn't be possible otherwise (like the demon brothers being able to visit the Celestial Realm). But he's not the first character in this game to have weirdly powerful abilities that should be rare and more restrictive/punishing to use than they currently are, and I doubt he's going to be the last.
Related to that, the story keeps moving forward but in a very clunky way. The writers set up something beforehand - giving a demon an OP tool or ability they shouldn't have, RAD hosting yet another stupid fluff event that seems pointless but is probably another one of Diavolo's shenanigans - and then later reveals that it was all meant to explain/justify/solve (whatever random plot point) the writers need an answer for.
So much about Michael. Okay. Michael's disguise/sneaking into the Devildom in early NB rubbed me the wrong way from the start, and it's reappearance in L43 is even worse. I'm not convinced Solmare has any intention of showing us a proper visual of his character anytime soon, not when they can use Raphael as a plug-in for his character while the characters go on about how fun and silly Michael is for using a disguise to begin with. (Plus, making assets for him costs money, and if they make him attractive aka dollar-store-brand-Legolas, they'll need to decide whether they want to potentially take on the cost of adding another dateable option when there's still three waiting on the sidelines, etc.)
Beel (and the others apparently) still love the Celestial Realm? Really? Even after—? Oh. Okay then.
Diavolo, Barbatos, and Solomon all have moments where they're CLEARLY aware of things going on behind the scenes, or they hint at doing/knowing more than what they let on while being very bad at hiding it, and no one seems to notice or care. Whether the characters/MC are too passive to ask questions/point out their odd behaviour, or whether this is a symptom of more timeline nonsense, is anyone's guess. At this point, I don't know or care if any of them turn out to be Nightbringer, because the story has drawn out the suspense for so long and it feels less impactful/relevant as time passes. A good mystery is fun for a while, but the writers seem reluctant to answer any questions before adding new elements into the mix. Things keep chugging along regardless of who or what is stirring up trouble in the background, so in the end, how much does it really matter when it feels like there are no stakes anymore?
As for where the story is going, I have some idea based on the writing patterns of this game and the way they've sort of jammed a Celestial Realm visit into the plot where it shouldn't be possible to begin with:
Based on my understanding of Babel (after a glance at Google to figure out what the game is referencing), it feels like the game might use it as a spiritual no-man's-land where a limited numbers of angels and demons know about its existence/can potentially go there. Since it was originally inhabited by humans, it makes sense that there might be a pathway in the human world to its location, and conveniently enough, Solomon can locate it. Of course, he disappears right after and like other times in the past, he's probably off doing his own thing and not going to be entirely truthful about it if anyone asks him about it.
However, I'm guessing the real reason why the brothers are there at all - other than Asmo's random inspiration to go back to the Celestial Realm for a fun family holiday - is because there's someone/something at Babel that Solomon needs to find, probably at Diavolo's request (since he was the one who set up the science fair and the prize that would allow them to go like it was no big deal). Whatever Solomon is up to is probably tied to the weird business Diavolo/Barbatos have going on, whether its a link to Nightbringer or some other obscure plot device/event we're not aware of yet, who knows.
There are things I like about Nightbringer and things I don't like. It's part of the reason why I still hold onto the OG characterization/early world building.
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't still disappointed that OG's story has essentially been replaced with something that feels like an AU rather than a continuation. I had a lot of expectations and hopes for OG Season 5 (such as MC visiting Michael/the Celestial Realm to help resolve Simeon's crisis, Barbatos' proper love confession, more development with the side characters and eventually making them dateable).
One of my favourite nearly NB theories, my personal copium getting through the first 20 lessons, is that Barbatos from the OG timeline was actually the one MC met in the Nightbringer timeline. We got our romance and sweet Barbatos moments in NB Season 1 with the OG Barb and just didn't know it. (I honestly can't explain how he acted with MC any other way.)

i made a "talking about things i do not like" tag and then pretty much never used it, but i woke up today annoyed about undertale again so i guess i'm finally cracking it out
there's all the little things that made undertale a negative experience for me personally - the save system, the combat system being everything i hate about social interactions as an autistic person (guess what this person wants from this interaction and how to give it to them or else be punished!), the fact that it's a bullet hell game -
and all the ways people's reception of it made me bitter when i didn't end up liking it - why are these characters applauded as compelling and meaningful when i got made fun of for loving characters with just as much (read: little) depth?, why did everyone say this is an RPG when it's a bullet hell game?, why do i feel like i'm not allowed to dislike it? -
but fundamentally. the thing that makes me think about it three years later and grit my teeth in frustration is that toby fox and i are both game designers and we have completely different perspectives on game design. and his grinds my gears and from anyone other than a game designer who pours so much of his time and energy into games pings my "does not respect games as an art form" alert!
hear me out. i think people hold video game players to an unfair moral standard compared to interacting with other types of art. people think of people's decisions in video games as more reflective of their real life beliefs and actions than they do other types of media. and i don't mean this to say that video games shouldn't be held accountable for their portrayal of marginalized people and serious topics - but i mean i think people can be more inclined to judge someone for playing call of duty than watching captain america or top gun, even if they're all similar types of US military propaganda.
to me, making a choice in a video game is the same thing as opening a book. i'm not actually the one making the choice - the game developer(s), who spent time creating the writing, code, graphics, etc. for the choice, did. they included this option for a reason. let's find out why!
but people have a habit of judging people for opening that book to read it for themselves and decide how they feel. i saw this with dragon age and i'm seeing it with baldur's gate. i saw it with how people talked about twelve minutes. it is the central conceit of undertale: if someone makes a choice in a video game, it has to be because they want it to happen, or they think it doesn't really matter. it can't be because they're curious what the game developer has to say about it.
from my perspective on video games, toby fox wants you to play no mercy route. he wrote it! he spent all that time writing and programming it, designing extremely challenging battles, creating subtle branches for different versions of increasingly violent neutral routes. he clearly has something to say about it.
that something, of course, then turns out to be punishing you for listening to him and telling you you were wrong and cruel for being curious what he had to say.
the clearest, least-inflammatory comparison i can think of is saw vi, a movie where the jigsaw killer puts an insurance executive in a gauntlet of traps meant to illustrate how evil he is for denying people coverage. i watched that movie specifically because i was curious what it had to say about pre-obamacare united states health insurance. undertale's approach to no mercy route feels like if at the end of that movie the director walked in front of the camera and called me a murderous asshole for watching it.
my partner is always talking about how art is a conversation. it's about communication between the creator and the audience. in that metaphor, undertale is going to a lecture and then being scoffed at for asking questions. it's not my idea of a good conversation, a good story, or a good game.
as a tldr: this backlogged review always makes me laugh

Why I like Nimona
Tumblr media
There are a lot of reasons to enjoy Nimona's character.
Her spunky nature, her fast-talking, her awesome design and powers, her charming personality and chemistry with other characters... Everything about her just screams "perfect character" to me. She's the kind of main lead I can just watch for hours and never get bored.
I was going into this thinking she was going to be like, say, the Genie from Alladin, or Bill Cypher, or The Mask, or Beetlejuice, you know, one of those fun characters who act like they're in their own little world while spitting some sassy funny lines and basically taking full advantage of the fact that they're cartoons by using shape-shifting to have some cool shenanigans.
But then I saw her motivations and her backstory, and started to look back at the way she behaved through the movie and... Yeah, no, she actually has a lot more depth and weight to her character than I was expecting, and it's handled in a surprisingly simple way.
(Possible spoilers for the movie)
Tumblr media
The thing that really intrigued me about Nimona, which I don't see often, was the fact that she's basically a character who already learned the big important moral of the story but is stuck in a world where nobody else has.
The big message of the movie is that there is nothing wrong with her but people refuse to see that and keep making up problems that don't exist in order to justify creating distance from her simply because she's different.
And she knows that! She knows that they are the problem and not her, she knows she has done nothing wrong, she knows that they are the ones that need to change, she knows that being different isn't a crime... But it doesn't matter because that's still what everyone else thinks.
Her big tragedy is the fact that even though she has all these amazing powers to turn into anything, which basically makes her the most overpowered being in this whole story, and even though she knows she is on the right side of the situation, she still can't always change how most people feel about her, and even though she knows that she shouldn't let these negative feelings get to her, they still end up affecting her in a way she can't do anything about.
Tumblr media
The whole movie is basically Nimona trying to convince us and herself that she's happy about who she is and about her life because she knows what the lesson is, she knows that she has all the reason in the world to love herself... But she just can't, because everyone and their moms keep telling her that there is something wrong with her, and after so long listening to this over and over it starts to pile up inside of her and becoming a part of who she is, a pain that she fights back against every day of her life.
Something that took me a while to understand was why she wanted to be someone's sidekick and not the boss herself? Why is she trying to make the movie about someone else when a story solely focused on her would be more than enough? Why when she gets an arrow to the leg she doesn't flinch in pain and just endures it in silence?
Why is she trying so hard to not be a bother? To not steal the spotlight? To let her pain show?
Because she wants to be accepted that much... Because the pain of being rejected hurt her that much.
Her going around being all "I have super useful magical powers that can greatly help your situation! I'm on your side! I accept you the way you are! I understand you!" are all a desperate cry for help in the hopes that her last chance at a true friendship won't end up ruined again.
She's doing everything she can to not give her one friend any reason to cut her off from his life because he's all she has.
Even though she's powerful enough that she probably doesn't need anyone in order to survive, she still needs others in order to be happy.
Tumblr media
Nimona is that one friend who we think has everything they need to be happy, but for some reason, they don't have the one thing they want because it's out of their control whether they get it or not.
We can't make people love or like us, not unless we change who we are in order to fit their tastes, but she knows that changing who she is isn't the answer.
We see her trying to go from animal to animal in the hopes of finding one other animal she can get along with but they all keep finding problems with her since she doesn't match what they're used to.
And when everyone keeps acting like there's something wrong with you, you start to wonder if maybe they're right, even if you're not hurting or causing trouble to anyone.
Tumblr media
I love how they make her look like this young child even though she's meant to be this immensely powerful being who's been alive for several years and who understands human nature better than humans themselves, showing that no matter how skilled or wise you are if you don't have anyone on your side you can still end up feeling empty inside, and that just because you have the ability to be strong doesn't mean you don't also have the ability to be vulnerable.
Nimona reminds me a lot of Lake in the sense in the sense that I feel you can write a whole book about how many themes her character explores.
Isolation, need for validation, discrimination, understanding, insecurity, sympathy, empathy, acceptance, self-hate, self-love, need for control, need for accepting that there are things you can't control, and probably many more that I didn't even think of.
I like Nimona not only because she's a fantastic and enjoyable character to follow, but because she shows why we need to try our best to be better as well, so that innocent people like her don't end up getting needlessly hurt due to the most idiotic of reasons, showing how harmful ignorance and groundless hostility can be.
She's the kind of character that makes me go "I want to be more understanding. I want to be more accepting. I want to try harder to embrace other people's differences." because it teaches me that if I do, I might get to hang out with a girl that can turn herself into a dancing shark!
And I would literally have no complaints in life if I was able to achieve that!

Sundrop! Hi, I've always been a quiet reader (not because I don't think offering comments and engagement is important, but because I usually wait until I have something articulate and meaningful to say which can usually take me multiple reads) but I just wanna say I'm literally so sorry that people are critiquing your work. Posting your writing anywhere is a kindness, it's a contribution, and unfortunately, it's really brave. I say unfortunately because you shouldn't have to be brave to engage in what you love, you should be able to share it freely without expecting people to crawl put of the woodwork to tell you all the things they think you did "wrong" like it's their duty to give their opinion like it's fact. Convenient that the parts that aren't to their personal taste are the parts they comment on, it's like they get the message but pay no attention to how it was sent and let their biases take them from there. What about all of the effort that went into the presentation, the carefully selected prose, the references, the way every fic can come across as a love letter if you just think about it the right way? Everything that's missed or misconstrued in the interpretation?
There are some readers out there who can't stand their 'stand in' being flawed or human in any way, down to the smallest of traits or actions. What that really tells me is that they just don't like it when an MC has any discernable personality. I think these people need to start comprehending that relationships are literally just two people deciding to reside in eachothers orbits and be in eachothers space and generally put up with eachother, and making that choice every day. Sorry if that sounds incomprehensible, what I'm trying to say is that nobody, least of all their precious uwu blorbo is being victimised by having to put up with some snark. News flash: these stories only work because Main Pairing Guy is choosing to engage in the titular dynamic as well. They knowingly expose themselves to this 'problematic behaviour'. If you wouldn't 'put up with it personally' good for you. But this isn't real life and even in fiction not everybody thinks like you or just happens to abide by your personal boundaries. (I say guy because somehow I think that female pairings dont get this treatment nearly as much, maybe because the target audience is already marginalised and dont feel the need to marginalise themselves further with blown out of proportion critiques on literal personality traits).
Not being a timid demure little saintly woman figure does not make them malicious or even offensive, it makes them interesting. It makes the exchanges between characters more fun and fulfilling. I actually relate a lot to the way you write your reader characters– and that's because I'm not insecure enough to think that me being sarcastic or standoffish or understandably guarded by nature makes me a bad person, nor does it even make me particularly 'mean'. Anyone who finds issue with these portrayals maybe needs to do a little introspection on themselves and think about why they're taking it so personally that they feel the absolute need to speak up about it on a public forum.
Writing not being to your personal taste doesn't make it bad writing. It just means it's not for you. If you find yourself in that situation, acknowledge that and move on. It costs zero energy to not go around spreading negativity for no reason. You are not the target audience. 'She' was not written with your voice in mind, and that's perfectly okay. You don't have any say on what a content creator puts out, nor should you. It's the writers vision, not yours, be greatful they're willing to share it with you. Nobody is entitled to it. I'm not saying you have to enjoy it, just do the decent thing and keep it to yourself if you don't. 'Don't like, don't read' is such a simple concept.
I hope you continue to enjoy writing and that you don't take their negativity to heart or let it influence your enjoyment of what can be such a fulfilling and downright therapeutic hobby. I know it's hard to see when so many readers choose to stay silent, but they are the loud minority. A lack of engagement is a disappointing reality on pretty much every platform and it must be so disheartening for content creators. I'm doing my best to try and contribute more, even if its just anonymously for now, and I hope more people start speaking up with all the nice things they have to say instead. I'm sorry you had to put up with all my rambling, but I hope at least some of it was something somebody needs ro hear. Sending you good vibes and inspiration! ☆☆☆
Omg, okay. this is very long and I do have a lot to say about this
Well for one - I do appreciate quiet readers.
Something disheartening is when people leave a like on my work and don't comment or reblog - especially when there is a huge disconnect between the amount of likes and the amount of comments. Because when something has 1000s of likes and 2 comments, it's usually from a fandom that is very over saturated and popular, and it feels like people are saying: your work is just like any other, and there is nothing special about it or worth commenting on about your work. I have 100s of fics to choose from, and when I read yours, nothing stood out to me about your work as valuable or particularly entertaining, so I don't care to talk to you about it and I don't care if I lose it in my 1000s of liked posts because it's not that unique or that great. And some people use their liked fics as bookmarks, so seeing so many people leave likes and no comments, it's like "yeah, I saw the summary of your fic, I was interested, I liked it, but I didn't give a shit to come back to it and actually read it. other fics are more worthy of my time."
But if people are too shy to comment or they genuinely don't have anything to say (or if they're worried that they don't have anything thoughtful to say) - reblog it. Reblog it without a comment, and it makes an author feel 1000x times better than if you just leave a like. Especially if your reblog is tagged as 'TBR' or even just tagged with the character's name - it means I know you value my fic and don't want to lose it, whether you have read it already or not. It means I know you think my fic is worth sharing with other people. It means I know you're enthusiastic about my fic. So many other things.
Reblogging can be just as golden as a comment sometimes.
Also I always encourage shy people to comment while using anon.
Anyway - moving on.
Everything you are saying is so, so right. Sharing your art is brave, but I remember a time when people would consistently share fics of a much lower quality - which isn't a mockery, it's just me saying that fandom used to be much more casual, and making 'bad' art used to be widely accepted. Now, people are clearly terrified to make 'bad' art, so even if they make it, they don't share it.
It used to be that fandom was a space where you were joking around with your friends, passing notes in class and goofing off, and now people act like fandom is a fucking transaction. But now people act like fandom is a service where you can blatantly complain if there's stuff you don't like - as if fanfiction writers are the person behind the counter at the Burger King and you go up and order whatever you want, and if they don't give it to you, there is someone above them that you can complain to. (Also the people 'ordering' act like they have aboslutely no power to make a burger for themselves and they are gonna starve if they don't get it right now.)
And there is a huge percentage of people who say that writing fanfiction is 'too hard' so they just don't do it - when they don't realize that 90% of their favourite fics are written by people in their late 20s, 30s, and 40s who used to write the most terrible, cringey, self insert fics riddled with spelling errors and polyvore sets and random Japanese ANs (and people used to write these fics seriously) - all your favourite authors had growing pains.
Nobody starts off perfect. And no, writing fanfiction is not easy - but it's supposed to be a labor of love and passion and it's a skill that you're supposed to develop over time, which is why you do it.
The whole point of fanfiction is that it's fanmade. It's literally the number one 'do it yourself' hobby ever. And there are no fans who are more qualified to make fics than others. If you are a fan of something and you know any written language, you are qualified to make your own fanfiction.
But in this currently climate, people who don't write fics because it's 'too hard' feel entitled to fics written by people who have been practising for years.
Also I love what you have said here: "convenient that the parts that aren't to their personal taste are the parts they comment on"
There is such a recent negativity culture. People don't understand that thinks they don't like aren't for them - they think that everything should be for them, and aspects they don't like about it should be changed or weeded out to their liking. And in the vein of negativity culture, so many people take a strange kind of joy in being openly negative and being such a 'hater'. And it is just so strange to me.
Fandom is supposed to be a space where we come together in order to celebrate our love for something - so why would you bring such a negative attitude to those spaces? Why not participate in these spaces with enthusiasm and love - and if you find something that you don't like, why not just ignore it in favor of the things that you do love?
Especially when there are so many genuinely awful things out there in the world - why do you want to create more negativity in spaces that are supposed to be a fun mental escape? Why waste your energy focusing on things that annoy you, piss you off, make you angry - when fandom is supposed to be about focusing on things we love that bring us joy?
"There are some readers out there who can't stand their 'stand in' being flawed or human in any way, down to the smallest of traits or actions."
This is just true. And it's annoying.
Writing flawed characters - whether it's a reader character or a canon character - makes for something so much more interesting. And I don't understand why people seemingly want to read a story where the characters have no flaws and there is no conflict.
Not being a timid demure little saintly woman figure does not make them malicious or even offensive, it makes them interesting.
Again - thank you.
So many of my female reader characters have been accused of being 'mean' or 'bitchy' - as if that's the worst thing that a female character can be.
"I actually relate a lot to the way you write your reader characters– and that's because I'm not insecure enough to think that me being sarcastic or standoffish or understandably guarded by nature makes me a bad person, nor does it even make me particularly 'mean'."
Genuinely, thank you.
This means a lot to me.
I like it when people enjoy my reader characters because I always try to make their personalities engaging and I try to make them fun to ride with as the story is being told. Some people genuinely expect the reader character to be just like them. They expect the reader character to have no mentions of a backstory, an occupation, nothing. And what bothers me is that this falls into the trap of the reader character - usually female - being some jobless homebody housewife type that the canon character just comes home to. As if a woman's only value in a man's story is to be a sex object for him to come home and fuck.
Like if I had a dime for every single story that intros with the canon character man coming home to his anonymous wifie reader character and with 0 discussion of her life, her interests, her personality, they only discuss his life, his interests, his potential conflicts and then they start fucking. Yes, I get that it's to make the reader character more ambiguous, but it's so boring and it makes all fanfictions so generic with each other and it makes the woman feel like such an accessory to his life rather than feeling like her own person.
I always want the reader and the canon character to be active participants in the story. Because that makes it more interesting.
"Writing not being to your personal taste doesn't make it bad writing. It just means it's not for you. If you find yourself in that situation, acknowledge that and move on. It costs zero energy to not go around spreading negativity for no reason. You are not the target audience."
I just wanted to highlight this.
And thank you - I will continue writing for as long as I can. I hope to continue writing well into my 30s, 40s, etc. as long as my chronic illness allows me to be well enough in order to do so. I really don't want to let stuff like this get me down.
And honestly, I have been writing for so many years - it's my default. I don't think I can stop writing. I just hope that speaking out about stuff like this will make the environment kinder for myself and other writers.
Anyway - thank you so much for this lovely message <3 I really do appreciate it

Epiphany of the morning:
I don't have to bicker over or defend Star Wars stuff, because it's not a true story. It's a story with truth, which is why I love it so much and I believe why it attracts so many people. But it isn't a true story.
There's only one True Story (we call it the Bible) and every other story ever told is a fractured, imperfect, incomplete echo of some truth, good or evil, from that story. Some stories get a lot closer to the truth, because the person writing it has experience with the truth, and sometimes it's on purpose and sometimes it's unconscious.
And I can chill about Star Wars because of course it's an imperfect story, because it's written by an imperfect man, who wasn't even trying to tell a true story, just a story with some truth. (He's right there, all the good storytellers know that that's what they're doing.) But he was drawing inspiration from the True Story, so there's a lot of the truth in it.
So I really shouldn't bog myself down in bickering over the ins and outs of imperfect fictional religions or magic systems, not when I have my own stories to tell. Take the truth and let the rest be fun, should be the motto.
And I can do that while still being respectful of the source material, I think. Paying attention to what the author says they're trying to say, and not claiming my subjective interpretation as the author's objective interpretation, while encouraging others to make the same distinction.
Of course, I need to let my own stories be just good stories, not trying to force them to be the True Story, because there's only one of those, there shouldn't be another. When I find the truth in stories, it always points back to the True Story, it should send me back there. I shouldn't stay or try to live in the parameters of any story but the True Story.
So yeah, I can chill about flaws and imperfections in stories and characters I love, because it's not a true story, and it's wrong to act like it is. (Especially if I'm a jerk about it, which, if I have been to anyone, I apologize.)
And of course my fanfics will stray from the source material, because I'm telling a different story. My story.

Note
For those concerned about fictional age gaps and how it affects morals. First of all, it's not. Fiction is a healthy way to explore your thoughts, emotions, trauma or simply entertainment without hurting anyone. If something is written in fiction, it doesn’t automatically mean it's morally correct to do the same in real life. No one says that, ever. Please, exercise critical thinking. People take from fiction what they take, they don't use it as their gospel to blindly justify something in reality. If they do, they are wrong and should be judged by the acts actually committed, not by the cloud in their head that is basically a playground.
Second of all, half of the characters in darker "problematic" ships are also murderers and otherwise criminals, how does none of it is confusing, but their preferred romance is? Oh, maybe because you actually understand people don't condone murder in real life or are secret serial killers if they write about those topics? At least, I would hope so. The same distinction applies to everything else.
As for the age gap and the appeal of it. Personally, it's never the main reason for me to like the ship, but just a factor. I see characters and their dynamic, not the age they're assigned in a story. But also, characters aren't perpetual children, they can age too and become adults. The age gap in itself is not the issue most of the time.
Besides, when someone is immortal such trivialities as age transcend time. The trope of 100 year old vampire and a teenage girl has been around for centuries. It even has popular modern examples somehow widely accepted. Tripping over imaginary age gaps is so unnecessary. So what if there are decades between characters? Can they interact in an interesting way? Let them interact and just have fun!
As for reading romance about literal kids, I already somewhat answered it with a passage about other crimes. You can draw the parallels. Most of the time, such stories exist simply because they can. Exploration of taboo topics will always have its appeal in one way or another.
I can't say for everyone, but for me mostly, it's about the scenarios characters are put through, not the fact itself they're children. If they happen to be young, so what? As long as it works for the story to highlight or explore something in that exact period of time in character's life, so be it.
And you can't just label everything as problematic just because it has some problems. Sometimes, that's the point. Fiction has always been a way to highlight problems in society, to bring attention to them, to let readers draw their own conclusions. It's never been a free pass for moral justification that people nowadays try to make out of it. Sometimes, it's the opposite, and the story would tell you how those things are wrong. But it's for the reader to decide, not for the author to spoon feed them. I'm sorry, but if someone uses books to copy everything they read without any careful or critical thought, they probably shouldn't be reading books at all.

Idk if it’s jealousy but I kind of think cove dater is lying, if not it’s lowkey weird to compare your real life boyfriend this much to a fictional character and share y’all’s texts 🤷‍♀️
i... well. i mean. i don't think cove's behaviors are uncommon. a lot of people are shy, tall n intimidating, have separated parents (correct me if im wrong, just my understanding from when oomf said he visited his dad), or to be stubborn, and doting.
fuck, thats literally me!!! i have characteristics of every Our Life love interest! so i'm not surprised if someone is genuinely like cove and if someone who is in this fandom, is with someone who is very similar to him!!
and the texts, its not nothing someone wouldn't say their partner??? and i also thought about the sharing texts thing, because i know some people dont want their chats shared and some things should be private right. but the things oomf has shared, is so tame to me. so common...
and if they're sharing the texts, who am i, or anyone, to scold them for doing that? it's their business, their life, relationship, texts, and if they wanna share, and it's cool than sweet!!
and again, who am i to be like "huhhh is this okay to share?" or "you shouldnt share your texts with your partner!!" because again, idk anything more than what oomf shares, and who is to say she hasn't talked to their boyfriend about it?
tbh, i kinda think we shouldn't so readily assume, tell or say someone shouldn't do something. there's more that we don't see, and even if things we see on the internet are fake, or could be fake, why get worked up over them?
idk, i kinda view this as like, girl talk!!! just like when you talk to your friends about stuff, especially this kinda thing. again, i'm not gonna question oomf, n if her boyfriend knows/finds out n doesn't like it, i'm happy to delete the posts if needed! n i'm happy if they don't share anything else! it's their business, n if oomf comes and says "okay, can't talk about XYZ/share XYZ sorry" then that's okay!
n about comparing. from our talks alone, and i'm looking back at them right now. i don't see a lot of comparison after the first couple times n those times were quite tame to me. like when the first comment was "i just realized how similar my boyfriend is to cove.." n shared some similarities. and the next was "he's visiting his dad, i miss him/hate that he's gone just like MC and cove" (paraphrasing and all that stuff to simplify/summarize)
idk. personally, from previous messages, i don't see so much comparison that it'd be weird.
n if they're lying, which i never thought n personally, don't see. i really don't care, i have fun chatting with everyone. and i'm not gonna stress myself out over could be lies and faux pretenses, or if it's right for someone else to share their text messges.
i dont believe that she's lying, this just seems like a normal, real, relationship to me n i'm very happy for oomf. and no offense to you anon, i understand where you're coming from, but i do hope oomf doesn't take this message personally.

Tumblr media
NAME: I'm Skullbert, Skullymania or just Skully
PRONOUNS : he/him
PREFERENCE OF COMMUNICATION : you can try to reach out to me through tumblr msgs but I have abysmal social skills and I don't really feel comfortable talking to people any time (though I will do so regardless). And worst of all, I can interact with a maximum of 3 people at the same time without getting overwhelmed.
NAME OF MUSE(s) : Say hello to Aventurine. Though I also have a Blade, my OC Hyena, and a whole collection of other canon and oc characters hidden on a barely finished blog that will likely never see the day of light.
BEST EXPERIENCE : I can't decide. Though one of my favourite things might be how confused people are when Hyena suddenly starts to 'make sense'. Or if when they realize that my fucked up way of writing anything of him doesn't apply to my writing in general.
RP PET PEEVES / DEALBREAKERS :
For whatever reason I can't even explain myself I dislike it when asks get reblogged. Like that big grey box at the beginning of a rp/conversation just grinds my gears the wrong way.
Otherwise I don't really have Dealbreakers, except for the obvious. No one but me gets to decide which emotions my characters feel unless your muse can put them under a spell that is.
A minor other thing would be, that it would be really nice if people cut their post but that's not really a dealbreaker either. It just makes finding ANYTHING on the dashboard so much harder.
MUSE PREFERENCES:
if that's supposed to be which kind of characters I usually write then the answer is a firm – well, almost anything, except female characters. I have a surplus of ones that are either complete and utter idiot himbos, act like they're idiots or traumatized people who are somehow kept together by nothing but spite and anger.
If this is about what I usually RP. It's mostly anything but smut. Somehow those interactions usually make people disappear xD
My rps always tend to end up with angst and pain though.
PLOTS OR MEMES : both, though I usually say – wing it, let's see where it goes. Plotting can be fun as a general direction, like – where you want to go. But I've seen people trying to orchestrate every single interaction and I have far too little control over my muses to conform to that.
LONG OR SHORT REPLIES : I'll say both but somehow I always end up writing so much even though I try not to.
BEST TIME TO WRITE : Whenever I shouldn't because I have something more important to do. Like sleep, or clean or get ready for a meeting.
ARE YOU LIKE YOUR MUSE(S) : partly. Otherwise it would likely be a lot harder to write them

OC-tober Day 5: Relationships
Tumblr media
I was going to do a chart but I have too many characters and I haven't introduced them all yet so instead I'll take this as an opportunity to introduce two OCs at once, my two absolutely terrible guys, Laurel and his husband Faust!
(warning for brief mentions of mind control in the context of Laurels powers, lemme know if there's anything else in here anyone would want a warning about that I missed)
Laurel is the closest thing Dualiti really has to a villain, as mentioned in his neocities blurb. but due to Dualiti's very static state of being, he's mostly been bothering the same places and people for the last 1000 years, the only thing changing being who's being sent to fight him. either way, he is extremely content with the status quo he's in, where he has a lot of control in his little bubble and can do basically whatever he feels like. He and Vex have a very complicated rivalry, but that's a whole different quadrant- *I AM IMMEDIATELY DRAGGED OFFSTAGE BY SECURITY*
His husband is Faust, a mad scientist who is the absolute worst. just about everyone who meets him is immediately repulsed by his personality, which is "I am smarter than everyone else and anyone who claims otherwise is stupid and wrong, even when I am actively failing at something". somehow, though, Laurel is absolutely charmed by his cringefail demeanor. it also helps that Faust is equally head over heels for him. they are both completely terrible but I guess somehow they cancel eachother out, so that's nice? I'm glad they managed to find eachother.
Laurel Fun Facts:
Though Laurel looks like just a really tall elf, (he is 7'6". elves in the universe of Dualiti do not get that tall ever.) he's actually a sentient magical organism that is puppeting a corpse to function as his main body. that organism is the slime, which manifests on his body as the hair coming from his head.
when Laurel (the magic organism) consumes matter, it produces more slime, which can be used as structures, weapons, and as means of controlling others.
He can make hunters by basically infecting people with himself, (someone ingests the slime, it gets into an injury, ect.) and puppeting them from the inside. once he's infected someone, they're basically already on his network, and he can step into the controls any time. (you know, like vris- *I am once again dragged offstage*) he doesn't use it a lot unless he has to, though. he likes the challenge of convincing people to work for him.
(also just to get it out there because I mentioned Laurels powers and I want to make it clear that, no, Faust isn't being mind controlled or anything. he just encountered someone who actually genuinely liked him and went full Gomez Addams about it)
He is very much inspired by my love of classic disney villains. always love a character who is awful and is having so much fun with it. Shoutout to my girl Maleficent she inspired SO much about Laurel without me even realizing it.
as mentioned, he and vex have sort of a weird rival thing going on. do they hate eachother? are they best friends? something else? fucking. I don't know man.
Tumblr media
(shout out to Hark a Vagrant by Kate Beaton for the reference)
you can tell thats old art because laurel doesn't have his cape yet. anyway, now we're moving on to
Faust Fun Facts:
Faust is very much inspired by characters like Doctor Robotnik, or Berdly of Deltarune. basically characters that are very confident in being super smart even when they probably aren't actually.
this isn't to say he's bad at what he does, he's really good at making robots and doomsday devices and the like- he's just bad at realizing that maybe he shouldn't keep putting in the function for them to explode randomly or at the slightest interference. high intelligence, fucking AWFUL wisdom.
He and Laurel met when Faust accidentally crashed his egg-mobile type thing into Laurels mansion and DIRECTLY onto the table Laurel was having tea at.
Tumblr media
it's honestly a miracle Laurel thought he was funny and didn't end up killing him.
Faust does smoke, even though as a hunter/undead he doesn't really like, get any of what you would get from a cigarette. old habits die hard. (maybe he just likes the taste.)
as mentioned he is absolutely hopeless over Laurel. Laurel could literally do anything and Faust would think it was great. thankfully Laurel likes him just as much right back, which means that Faust can fuck up his evil schemes as much as possible and Laurel will not even care. he loves his silly little idiot so much.

Please please info dump about Jackson or or or uhh big guy the big knight you know the one that travels with little knight aaaguuh it's been so long I have a huge crush on both still and I need more 💔
ALRIGHT i was gonna write like big complete paragraphs but my brain has been an egg for so long im gonna give you bullet points
i'm putting things under a readmore just in case there's things about these characters you don't want to know in case i ever do an official story in 20 billion years (also because it's a lot of text)
Tumblr media
(note he does not canonically have a tail i was just having fun)
Tumblr media
Jackson
He's a sniper/bounty hunter!
He'll do practically any job if you can pay him enough (even if it doesn't involve killing).
He'll do almost anything if you convince him he can win at it
There's always something off about his reflections. Sometimes you can catch it looking in a different direction than him.
He drives a motorcycle! (One of the old-timey ones though cause of the era).
He doesn't really know how to smile properly so he rarely does.
But when he achieves something difficult he's all giggles and smiles :) He'll jump up and down and do little spins because he can barely contain his excitement.
He has never missed a shot in his life (That's what he claims anyway, but no one's been able to prove him wrong.)
Sometimes he'll go somewhere secluded and practice trick shots.
He always carries a pocket mirror with him, that he constantly looks into. The mirror is black, and whatever you can spot in it is not his reflection.
He's unbearably touch starved and would die before he admits it to anyone
He eats out practically every night, but always alone...
Maybe he could use a few friends
Big Guy
They are impervious to rust!
They're nice to hold when the weather's hot (the metal stays cool!)
They love nature more than anything, and could get lost wandering around for ages
Sometimes they'll stop in their tracks and wordlessly walk off in a completely different direction, like they forgot something and went to get it back
They also have a strong desire to just walk into the woods every time there's one available (much to the dismay of Little Knight)
How tall is Big Guy? Well they're as big as big as their halberd, right?
They despise Order knights, more than the average person would
They're a very good listener, and just have that kind of face where people are willing to tell them anything without much prompting
But when they are able to speak, they're thoughtful and give very good advice
They don't like cats very much because "they get in all kinds of places where they shouldn't"
If you tossed a coin inside their chest plate it would clink around like crazy
They don't have many friends outside of Little Knight.
Whether that's because they're satisfied with just one friend, or because they're scared of other people... it's unclear
The world seems scary when you've been dead for such a long time

So I've been dead awhile (motivation perished lmao) but it's time for a rant 😎😎😎
So recently I've seen a lot of people saying that the ship Bunny (Butters x Kenny) Is wrong to ship due to Kenny being "the straightest character in the show" (direct quote). Now I'm not saying you like HAVE to ship it or I'll go GRRRR like if you don't like a ship neato cool beans but I honestly don't understand this logic??? Like you're telling me that Kenny being shipped with Butters is wrong because Kennys straight, but literally every character except Tweek and Craig (and my boy Bradley ofc) is canonically straight??? (As far as we know from the Canon atleast) SO like what's the difference between shipping Bunny and shipping Style for example?? Both are ships containing canonically straight character that people like to see as not straight which is more than okay but then whys one hated for going against the Canon whilst the other isn't???? Wheres the logic???? I've even seen people who say you can't ship Bunny for this reason yet then go on to ship like K2 or even Kenman something???? Like why are those suddenly okay for Kenny to not be straight for but Bunny isn't??? What am I missing??? Just say you don't like Bunny simple as you don't have to have a reason or have a ship be objectively wrong to not ship it (for example I dont ship K2 or Tyde simply because I just don't see those characters romantically, doesn't mean they're objectively bad and shouldn't be shipped by anyone). Honestly it's just really annoying to me and I genuinely don't understand the logic behind it. Like if YOU want to adhere to Canon so bad then you shouldn't even be shipping any couples except Canon ones then. Just let people have headcanons and have fun. If you personally see Kenny as straight that's perfectly fine go for it or if you ship other Kenny ships that aren't Bunny that's also fine!!! Headcanons exist and people are gonna depict characters differently and that's perfectly fine!!!! Just let people ship and headcanon what they want (unless it's extremely toxic or downright illegal or something obviously then no bad). Sorry for the rant lmao had to get it out somewhere.
