Doing my Angel rewatch, and I've gotta say, though they definitely had a few cute and moving moments, specifically at the end of "You're Welcome", I honestly like Cordelia and Angel as friends more than as romantic partners. We really need more representations of deep and meaningful friendships between men and women. I loved how profound and affectionate their friendship was. It truly disappointed me the first time I watched it as a child that they took that friendship and made it romantic. And as an adult it still feels like a disappointment.

I don't mean this in a hateful way or anything, I love them both as characters, I just feel like they work better as friends.

what do you think about the upcoming starfleet academy & section 31 shows?

i feel like while there may be some interesting angles to explore, i really don't want star trek to go down a route of having like too many shows to keep up with & they should've let discovery have more seasons before all this

I completely agree with you! I do like some interconnectedness in my Trek shows, but I'm not a big fan of this general MCU-fication they've got going on. Tbh they announced the Section 31 show years ago and I thought it was a boring idea even then lmao, my opinion hasn't really changed- and I'm personally not very interested in the Starfleet Academy idea either, though I'll keep an open mind. (I think I'm just fundamentally not that interested in Starfleet itself? Like to me it's always just been a means to get my blorbos into space haha)

On top of that, New Trek shows take this weirdly... idk, uncritical? approach to concepts like "Dark and Badasse™️ intelligence agency that needs to exist so that peaceful life can go on" (I feel like Trek very much walked backwards with this, like compare that TNG ep from 1992 where Picard says "torture doesn't work as a way to get information" to that one ep of Enterprise where Archer... tortures someone and gets information. Or that TNG ep from 1991 where the word "terrorist" got thrown around Starfleet admin so much they ended up backing a colonial power, and Picard calls them out on their xenophobia & gullibility and literally violates his orders to protect the Bajorans to ST:Picard where the terrorist conspiracies turn out to be real BOTH times & Picard himself is suddenly uncritically defensive of the Federation. It's a regression imo!) I like New Trek but sometimes it makes me feel like I'm watching Starfleet propaganda😂

I also think you're sooo right about how they should've given Discovery more seasons. And I haven't watched Prodigy yet, but same there! Like imagine if, instead of letting DS9 and VOY complete their runs, they'd cancelled both on like S2 or 3 and then greenlit a whole bunch of other short-lived series & straight-to-DVD 2000s movies instead. It's a bit like that!

My stance on Monster High G3:

I think it's amazing that Frankie can be representation for those who don't follow the gender binary. That is SO COOL!! I'm happy M.at.tel has been allowing queer characters to shine this day in age. I also love that more body types are being shown as well as various mental conditions.

However, nothing about it save for the designs really speaks to me like Gen 1. And you know, that makes sense. Gen 3 is more suited for the youth of the present. Gen 1 had to be mostly implied with its LGBT rep, but it was still magical and nostalgic for a lot of us.

I don't write Gen 3 Frankie, but I welcome Gen 3 blogs! I myself don't identify as non-binary, so I don't want to speak on issues I don't personally go through through writing, but I love to see those more informed portraying the character.

Please don't be discouraged from following. As someone who is so used to things being 'implied' or lowkey, I'm ecstatic that G3 is able to do things G1 was never allowed to. And yes; making Frankie the non-binary character does not feel forced and I think it makes complete sense.

My Frankie is an ace, heteroromantic ally and will support any monster's journey through gender identity and orientation.

As it stands, I admire G3. It's doing some really wonderful things. I'll always stan G1, but no one should be angry or up in arms about change. It happens, we're getting old, concepts get outdated, things become different, but everything you loved about G1 is still there, untouched.

You gotta hand it to Fig. All of the Bad Kids were given foils this season and they got to decide how much they wanted to engage with that part of the plot. Gorgug only interacted with Mary Ann in passing despite them both being on the Owlbears. Fabian noped out of chatting up Ivy once she crossed a line with Mazey. Riz was so busy that he truly had no time to engage with Kipperlilly even though she's obsessed with him. Kristen interacted a bit with Buddy but spent way more time verbally sparring with Kipperlilly. And Adaine was somewhat interested in Oisin but never overtly acted on it.

But Fig?

She's in Ruben's WALLS. She's in his DREAMS. She's faking her alter emo's death. She's got the Fantasy FBI after her. She's SO SO tiny. No one is doing it like Fig's doing it.

Bruce ran out of the room leaving Jason Todd with Alfred watching the entire interaction, impressed.

Jason: Remember, I knew about his existence before Bruce ever did. I visited the kid for the first 9 years before Bruce found out about him. Talia paid me to take photos of him for memories.

Alfred: That's very wholesome of you.

Jason (confused): I said Talia paid me.

Alfred: Money or not, you did a good deed. Now Master Bruce can have a few photos and trust me, he's been begging Talia for baby pictures for years. Be proud of yourself.

i will never understand how people have the heart to hate Jason even after they found out that his Ambrosia tastes like fucking sawdust. Ambrosia being tasty is like one single happy thing a demigod can have despite their tragic lives, because it reminds them of the home they once had, but lost.
