It's 2023 can we please figure out that asexuality isn't synonymous with sex repulsion already. Lack of attraction and lack of libido are not the same thing, aces can be "hell yes" about sex itself, and a lack of "hell yes" is not the same as active repulsion. I'm not a big movie watcher, but if someone I care about wants to share a movie with me I'll do it for them and very likely enjoy myself even if it doesn't turn me into someone who actively likes movies. one thing that i hate in fandom is that some people act like there's no nuance to anything

you see this recently, with hbomberguy's new video. so many people are crawling out of the woodwork all like 'well i always thought illuminaughti was shit' or 'i hated james somerton from the start!'

and like

you know that there isn't a binary between 'good media' and 'bad media', right? both of those labels are highly subjective and cannot be universally applied to anything. and just because a creator has turned out to be a shitty person doesn't mean that the things they created are both automatically shit and also that you are a bad person if you ever liked their content

two personal examples - i used to like illuminaughti videos! i wasn't an avid watcher or anything but i watched a fair bit of her stuff and, when i assumed that she was making original content, thought she was an interesting creator

i also used to be big into channel awesome, and watched the nostalgia critic pretty closely. hell, i still own all four channel awesome anniversary movies.

i don't think any of that makes me a bad person? i'm not going to be ashamed of watching internet videos and liking internet videos just because the people who made them turned out to be plagiarising and abusing their employees, respectively. i obviously have very different opinions of them and their works now that i know everything that was going on behind the scenes, but i'm not about to pretend that i wasn't a fan beforehand

watching the barbie movie w genshin characters!

kazuha, kaveh, xiao, wanderer x reader (separately)

warnings: a tinge of angst, hurt/comfort, crying, modern au, tooth-rotting fluff !!

You've been anticipating the release of the latest Barbie film for days. Your excitement was as great as ever since you had already planned your pink-themed outfit days before the film's release.

If you were going to see the Barbie movie while feeling like a Barbie, you'd need your Ken, right? So you just had to invite your significant other to see the new movie with you!

Kazuha

Your well-thought-out pink-themed outfit was now slightly damp from the countless tears streaming down your tear-stained cheeks as the movie slowly came to an end. The saddening music playing in the background as you suppressed your cries.

Kazuha, on the other hand, was wiping your tears away. Warm hands cupped your wet cheeks as his thumbs gently wiped away your salty tears. His brows were knitted together in a frown as he watched you cry in his hands.

"Hey, it's okay. Everything is alright. That's what I'm made for, right? To be here for you always. So it's okay to cry. It's okay to let out all your bottled-up emotions. And when you do, I'll be by your side, okay, my love?" he whispered into your ear as he pulled you into a passionate embrace.

Your tears came to a still as you felt Kazuha pull away, your arms that were once wrapped around his shoulders loosening. You look at him with puffy and red eyes, but Kazuha couldn't care less. He leaned in again before pressing a soft, gentle kiss on the corner of your lips, making butterflies swarm your stomach almost immediately.

The scene made the other watchers admire the couple, feeling proud, while some felt envious and asked each other where they could find someone like your loving boyfriend.

As he pulled away, you couldn't help but feel lucky to have a boyfriend like Kazuha.

Kaveh

You didn't know how you found yourself in this position—Kaveh sitting on your lap, face buried into the crook of your neck as he sobbed loudly, ignoring the fact you were in a completely public space.

"Kaveh..? What's wrong, baby-" Before you could finish your sentence, your sobbing lover suddenly pulled away from you before looking at you with glazed orbs. "If you EVER cry without telling me, I will literally cry! I swear with MY LIFE that I will never make you feel unloved! I'M ALWAYS HERE FOR YOU, OKAY Y/N?!" Kaveh rapidly said, a couple hiccups interrupting his words as tears continued flowing down his rosy cheeks.

A soft sigh left your lips before you cupped his tear-stained cheeks. Sure, some people would find your boyfriend embarrassing for yelling in the middle of the theater, but you couldn't care less about any of that right now; all that mattered was your lover, Kaveh.

You quickly wiped away his tears before pressing a quick peck on his slightly damp cheeks. "Okay, but don't scare me like that again. You're going to make me cry." You whispered soft, loving words into his ears as you pulled him into a hug, opting to rest your chin on the pads of your boyfriend's shoulder. All of your words were quickly interrupted again as he cried in your arms, his tears soaking your pink outfit.

Some people expected that you would be the one who should be crying in your boyfriend's arms, yet for you, you found it endearing and adorable as Kaveh cried in your arms like a big baby.

Xiao

Your brows were knitted together as you watched the end credits roll with a frown. Sure, the movie made you feel somewhat sad, as you related deeply to the story, but it wasn't so far that it made you cry.

You swiftly picked up your trash before standing up from your seat. Head turning to look at your boyfriend, Xiao, if he was ready to leave. His expression was... somewhat sad, yet confused. Maybe he related to the movie too.

"Xiao, let's go," you whispered before putting out your free hand, waiting for him to intertwine his with yours. When he did, you felt a bit more at ease. You didn't know why, but you just did.

As you were about to exit the theater of the mall, you could feel yourself slightly stumble back as your boyfriend was now a bit far from you, hands still holding onto each other.

"Xiao..?" Your silky hair fluttered as you whipped your head to face your boyfriend, only to see him staring holes into the floor, the tips of his ears slightly turning a tint of pink.

"I'll always be there for you if you need me... if you didn't know." he quietly said as his brows furrowed, his embarrassed eyes slowly glancing at you for a response. You could feel your heartbeat accelerate ever so slightly, the apples of your cheeks a light shade of red as your hand loosened its grip on Xiao's hand, making him puzzled at the loss of contact.

"Y/N..?" Before he could even process what was happening, he was quickly pulled into a warm hug, immediately melting in your arms as he wrapped his around your waist. "Thank you, love. I'll also be here for you always," you whispered into his now red ear. You slightly pull away from the hug before pressing a faint kiss on the tip of his nose, making his face flush red.

Before you broke the gears in his brain even more, you pulled away from the embrace before intertwining your hands together. "Let's go!" you said before turning away from him and dragging him to who knows where.

But he doesn't fail to catch the burning shade of red spread all over your ears, and he unconsciously smiles at this.

Wanderer

Your boyfriend didn't know what to do as you sobbed uncontrollably to yourself, eyes fixed on the TV screen as the ending credits rolled in.

What's he supposed to do? Does he need to tell you to stop crying? Yeah, no, he was sure that would just make your sobs even louder. Should he wipe away your tears and curse the people who made the movie? He sat there frozen and puzzled, his mind running millions of miles for ways to comfort you.

Out of nowhere, his body moved on its own before lifting you up from the sofa as he placed you on his lap, a protective arm wrapped around your waist while his other hand pressed your head onto his shoulder, letting you sob all you wanted. Though he doesn't let out a single word, as silence engulfed the both of you, only the sounds of your cries and hiccups remained, but either way, the both of you found the silence comforting.

Once he was sure your cries had come to a stop, he slightly pulled away, enough to see the aftermath of your tears plastered onto your face. His usual expression was nowhere to be seen and was replaced with a soft one.

He gently wipes away the remaining tears from the corners of your eyes. His hand suddenly brushed the stray strands of your smooth hair that framed your face perfectly away before pressing a soft, yet somehow shy, kiss onto your forehead.

Your eyes don't miss the way his cheeks burn up ever so slightly and his ears turn bright red. Before you could say anything, he pulled away from your forehead and pushed you back onto his shoulder. You smile warmly at this.

Sure, your beloved lover isn't too good at comforting others through words of affirmation, but he's pretty capable of showing it through actions instead.

Why I think Byler is endgame

Before we start, you must know I'm really skeptical about theories and all. I like to read and have fun with them, but believe them? It's really hard for me as a 20 years old queer person. Since young I've suffered being queerbaited by mainstream series, Stranger Things wouldn't be the first nor the last to do that.

I know today things are a little bit better, but for the sake of my poor broken heart, I'm always expecting a deception. Yet, I can see byler happening in season 5.

Here we go to the reasons why.

The existence of Robin

I've heard a lot of straight people say, before season 4 and even now, that "Will can't be gay because Robin is the gay person in the show. There is no reason for another one".

Like? The show can have 38272 straight, developed and important for the plot characters, all of them with love interests and happy endings, and one gay character inserted as a comic relief is fine. Two? To much to deal with.

I know, I know, disgusting. BUT what if I say that Robin was not a character added to the show only for a comic relief or identity representation at all? That she was presented for the watchers to consider the existence of a gay character in the show. For them to recognize some queer coded things that, without Robin, they wouldn't be able to?

Robin was presented to us in Season 3. As we must know, the third season of the show is mainly dedicated to character and relationships development. Thanks to it, we got to see the characters way more cylindrically, their fears, mistakes, who they are in their normal daily life. Mike, El, Hopper, Joyce, Erica and Steve gained many new layers in this season, but Will had the most special one: the first explicit hint of his sexuality.

And then, Robin appears. At first we are conditioned to think she likes Steve, the Duffers play a game with the watchers' heteronormativity using the dubiousness of their dialogs. And then, boom! She is lesbian. Not only lesbian but repressedly in love with a girl - at least was - and jealous of Steve.

Thanks to this coming out scene

The interpretation door was open to see this as Will being in love with a boy, repressing his feelings and being jealous of the girl the boy is dating with.

Will's jealousy and feelings for Mike back then stamped the background of everything, it was being slowly built inside the show - but not inside the character, remember the Snow Ball script? It was always there, just unseen.

Until here we are only remarking that Will is gay. But what Robin has to do with byler as a ship?

Well, if she is the queer character created to open this door for Will, created to gain the sympathy of the general public as comic relief character who bonded with two of the most popular characters of the show - Dustin and Steve - since s3, showing the watchers the struggles of a queer person in the 80's in a "light" way and making the viewers to cheer for her love life, of course her character holds a big role with byler building a romantic relationship.

Robin appeared in Season 3 because the viewers wanted Milven to happen in season 2 - thanks to the heteronormativity and kids sexualization I may say - when it wasn't going to, it wasn't scripted like this and it's not going to be endgame. So Robin's creating a scape route for the writers.

The hints given about Will being called a f@g and Mike over protective and supportive behavior with Will were not enough to create this bridge between friends and lovers as we know very well.

Movie Date and Schrodinger Cat

Moving on. We know Will is gay. Okay. What is still uncertain in the show is Mike's sexuality and required feelings towards Will. Here, we are focusing in the required feelings part.

I read a lot of analysis about the "movie date scene". I remember people discussing the blushing frame and the holding hands theory even before s4 coming out and at the time it sounded like joke to me - as I said I'm really skeptical. Yet, after rewatch the part and reading a lot (especially @greenfiend 's one about the holding hands thing), I feel like I finally understood why the scene is so spoken of.

It's pretty simple, it's another open door. Not like Robin who is there to guide us to read between the lines but as something that is open to interpret and rely on when they finally get together. It was made for when people start to question "where did this relationship came from?" and create assumptions like "it came out of the nowhere".

In the scene, Lucas, Max, Mike and Will go to Starcourt's movie theater to watch a horror movie together. When arguing about Mike's behavior, Lucas remarks that he is spending romantic time with his girlfriend by going there. When they are finally inside, lumax and byler sits separately, then things start to get really fishy.

The construction of the whole next part, when they are inside the movie theater, from the beginning of the movie to the black out and end of the scene, are basically hands. Hands everywhere. In the close ups, in the people around them and even in the movie. Why? For us to see it, to think of it, to imagine. To imagine what? It's up to you of course, but we know people hold hands at movie theaters, specially when watching a horror movie, and we also know byler is the main focus on that scene for some reason.

But they didn't show us their hands, did them? No. Because of that, no one can really say they were holding hands, but the same can't be said about them not holding their hands. The construction of the scene deliberately leads us to question the possibility, however there is no true answer. Like the Schorodinger Cat, they are holding and not-holding their hands.

Also, the "are you okay?" Mike says, the camera play and Noah's acting leads us to think that, if they are holding their hands, it was Mike's initiative, not Will's.

The whole scene is purposefully dubious.

Noah looks down at his hand at the end of the interaction, up again, and then smiles. It's there but they don't show us! At the same time, if it was an unromantic moment, they would've shown us they were holding hands as they did before, so why not? Why do they keep the whole thing subtle, calculated, and masked by the MF plot if not to hold a secret meaning behind it all. A secret meaning for us to discover yet.

Like pleaseee, I swear this is some kind of torture for us gay people.

Mike's character construction and Finn's acting

I'm a ST fan since the beginning. I was here when the major public liked Jonathan better than Steve, when Mike was the favorite member of the party, and Finn was treated as one of the best child actors of the show. Looking back, it's pretty obvious things changed a lot since the third season.

Why things changed? In the last two seasons, Finn was accused of being "out of the character" and "having a bad acting". And Mike turned into a douchebag in public eyes.

The truth is: the way the writers had chosen to show us Mike changed. He still is the same insecure, paranoic, loyal, compassionate character who is a jerk sometimes from the beginning, but we didn't get the chance to see his POV since s2.

Mike is a character trapped in the expectations of the viewers. They expected him to date El, to love El as a girlfriend, to treat her the way she deserves - what he can do, but clearly not as a boyfriend. Their relationship wasn't scripted the way it happened, so his character needed to go through some changes to remain himself. And, of course, for mlvn to end, the viewers needed to hate his version with El. Again, it is a scape route.

His character is still the same, but the way we see him is different. The truth is the viewers expected Mike to acts towards El the way he did with Will after they started dating: unconditionally supportive, trusting, and understanding, but guess what? This was never on Mike's character to begin with.

He doesn't understand, trust, or support people unconditionally. They are showing how much he is inflexible and selective in what he wants to believe since the very first episode, we can see that in the relationship with his family and friends. Just remember his fights with Lucas in s1, s2 and s4 and Dustin in s2 and s3, they are his CHILDHOOD FRIENDS, but even them don't have the pleasure of Mike's unconditionally support and trust. The only character he is truly open to is Will.

These changes were made for us to see the difference between Will and the rest of the world for Mike. In season 3, when he appears to be a jerk to everyone, no exception at all, the only person he seems to retract this behavior for is Will. In season 4, Mike fights El and Will, but again, the only one he seems to understand and retract from his defenses for is Will. Again, the only person he is really open with.

Now, speaking about sexuality, the other reason for people to blame Finn's acting is the awkwardness in kissing and intimate scenes - like the first I love you he heard from his girlfriend.

I don't know about you, but for me, it is almost painful to watch them kissing. Not only kissing, the whole dating thing looks like a performance, and it's not a good one, if I may say. But here is the thing, it's on purpose! The same goes for the looks he gives Will's and Eddie's body.

Don't even think that every look, expression, or camera play is not calculated. These people spend so much money in the show for it to be half assed by bad acting or misinterpretation of the script.

the irish captain will practically beg you not to take a shopping day. even going as far as to remove it from your shared calendar as soon as it comes up in her feed. although she willingly takes on the role of your personal bag carrier when you're out. she might grumble a bit about how you've managed to accumulate so many bags, but at the end of the day you'd always call her your personal assistant, the girl taking on the job of holding everything, being your judge and jury and running her way through stores to try an find the exact of anything you wanted.

katie has begged you for weeks and weeks to watch this new movie she'd heard going around on camp and hasn't stopped talking until you agreed. it wasn't that you didn't want to entertain the captain, but you had looked up the movie to find that it was a horror movie, your most hated genre of movies. "babe please!" she pleaded, poking you in the shoulder until you finally gave her the attention she was looking for. determined to prove your girlfriend wrong, you agreed to watching the film, although half of you was riddled with fear. throughout the day, katie would not stop reminding you that it was movie night, her usual banter and jokes replaced with the teasing as she belitted you endlessly. finally sitting down in your home to watch the movie, you noticed your girlfriend looking awfully tense as she moved closer to you. maybe if you had known any better, you would have said she looked nervous, but you were to worried about your own nerves to see it. as the suspense started to build in the movie, you felt her muscles tighten, her hand coming to wrap around your thigh. you watched out of the corner of her eye, as she took nervous glances towards the screen, eyes fussing around the room looking at anything other than the film. pressing pause on the remote, her head whipped back towards you. "scared already baby?" she laughed nervously, hand moving to play with the ends of her hair. "me scared? i think it's you who's scared!" you giggled, pulling the girl into you as she tried to defend herself. "nonsense! i'm the one who wanted to watch it anyway!" she protested, hands flying up into the air. "yes baby, i'm sorry." you apologise, still chuckling at how the night had turned out. "so should we keep watching?" you asked, an eyebrow raised in question, as you watcher her face turn pale. "um. i-i think we can turn it off for the night, love. don't want you having nightmares?" she said cautiously, taking the remote from your hands to turn it off.

I feel like he's clingy, but not in an annoying way. I think he's very particular about the people he spends time with, and he feels most comfortable in your presence, so he's always by your side.

He's not big into PDA, but he always holds your hand when y'all are out. If he's getting stressed/overstimulated out in public, he'll give your hand a gentle squeeze, just to ground himself.

Adam can be a romantic, though, in his own special ways. He puts together photo albums for you, somehow compiling stacks of candid photos of you. He will also leave post-it notes all around the house with little doodles or corny jokes just to make you smile.

He's a huge movie-watcher, but he talks throughout the entire thing. Eventually, you learn that shutting him up with kisses works like a charm.

LITTLE SPOON ADAM IS REAL TO ME but also he moves around so much when he sleeps but ALSO if you wake up before him, he is most likely hugging your side like a goddamn tree.

He likes to spend a lot of quiet quality time together, like sitting in bed and reading next to one another, or the two of you will sit on the couch and draw each other in silence.
