do you any recommendations of what to look out for/things you're excited for for melbourne fringe? i missed it last year because i was working crazy hours but im hoping to see a few things this year but i dont know where to start

Oh, man, yeah, the program is enormous, as it is every year, and honestly it's a challenge to navigate even being a part of the industry, so I totally feel you on not knowing where to start. Ultimately, what you want to see is going to depend on what you're into, so I'm going to put the comedy and cabaret performances to one side, and focus on the theatre program, if that's okay? Just because I can probably speak to it a little better, haha.

SO! Places to start:

Ballkids (or, scenes from a friendship) - love the creative team on this, and I've yet to see anything Liv's been involved in that hasn't blown me away. She is, I think, one of the most exciting emerging theatremakers in Australia right now. Her work tends to run the gamut of emotion from genuinely very funny to gutwrenchingly devastating, and her focus tends to be on specific moments in youth that change, well, everything. I'm really excited to see this one.

I Once Was a Tree - this is puppet theatre, so full disclaimer if that's not your vibe, haha, but I've worked with some of the artists from Bonkel Thetare before and I just love the creative team there too. They're really a great bunch of people and immensely talented, so I think this will be pretty special.

I saw Patrick Livesey in Sirens a couple of years ago (a play he actually did with Liv) and he was really incredible, he's just a really, really talented performer, so I'm really excited to see him in I Hope This Means Something.

Smother's also got a really exciting creative team and sounds really interesting, so I'm hoping to get to that this week.

There's a lot of Sydney talent involved in After Rebecca. I haven't seen it or worked with anyone on it, but I've heard positive things through the grapevine + it's had very good reviews. I love Daphne du Maurier's Rebecca too, so I'm curious as to what this one might be like.

A bit expensive for Fringe (although it's on at the Arts Centre), but I'm hearing quite a bit of buzz about Werewolf. Written by Van Badham too, which is exciting. Her stuff's often very good.

Not All Men - this is being run by a newer company (they were only established last year), but it got some good reviews and hype at Adelaide Fringe earlier in the year, so it sounds like it could be worth checking out.

The We the People x Yarra art exhibit / social history looks awesome and like one of the more exciting free events they're doing.

And just to keep things a little gothic, haha, the adaptation of Edgar Allen Poe's The Black Cat got really good reviews out of Adelaide Fringe too and has been nominated for a few awards already this year. I'm hearing really good things about it, and apparently the music in particular is off the hook.

So for the ravio ans legend I feel like ravio is super clinging to legend and it annoyed legend at first but now if ravio isn't clinging with legend legend thinks he did somthing wrong. I have this cute idea that legend filled in for a role and ravio was helping backstage and sooner or later one of the divas found legend and ravio asleep on eachother backstage during intermission.

Another thing I feel like twilight would have friends that don't know about legend and twilight invites them over but legend invited ravio and hyrule over so when twilights friends walk in they just see three teenagers acting like they're on Crack in twilights home. And twilight got bombarded by his friends.

Girl (gender neutral) I LOVE getting asks about the opera! And long ones literally make my day, so never feel bad for sending essays or rambles or lists or any of that sort of thing!

Ravio and Hyrule are both very attached to Legend. He's sort of the reason both of them are still alive, because he literally appeared in their lives one day and offered them jobs and a chance at a better life than they'd been living before. Ravio isn't exactly legal either (it's complicated) so he's very nervous a lot around strangers and anyone who might realize he's in Hyrule without proper paperwork. Regardless though, he tends to like keeping close to Legend whenever he can, and while Legend is pretty reserved in the wake of coming back to Hyrule after his trip abroad last year, there's no denying he's got a soft spot for both the Lorulian and Hyrule. Cuddle piles backstage very much do happen, and usually because Legend runs himself ragged all the time making sure everything is just right and then crashes after, usually the moment one of them convince him to sit down.

Twilight has had to carry home a sleeping Legend many many times, and he never gets tired of it. (There will never be a last time he picked up his nephew and tucked him into bed as far as he's concerned. He refuses to let go of those things.)

That said, yes. Legend was pretty popular in school, but he's lost contact with his friends since senior year (he graduated early) so his work friends are his main company, and they hang out at his place a lot since Hilda doesn't like Ravio bringing people over and Hyrule is still living out of the opera basement. They aren't the craziest sort (Hyrule is actually the wildest of the three) but if Wild joins them it tends to really go nuts because he and Hyrule play off each other.

Twilight has come home with some friends a few times (he also doesn't have many outside of work, at least in Crown City) and since what friends he has here in town are usually newer, they have no clue he's basically a single dad (he will insist he's just the Uncle) they always get surprised to find three to seven teenagers just chilling at his place. One time, Shad actually thought it was a bunch of street kids who broke in and tried to call the cops, much to Twilight's initial panic and then great amusement.

I honestly didn't know if I'd like this one when I started lol but I loved it. The ANGST WAS SO HEAVY AND SO GOOD. tw for annabeth not making it out of tarturus alive in this fic. PJO and Marvel/Shield mash up and honestly I'm just so down for badass Percy fics. Especially when we see him from another POV where he looks so scary but in his head he is the softest most traumatized boy. Percy is everything to me. Lol and I ship percabeth so hard so this was an outlier fic to me 😂 the blurb there is from the first story, I linked the whole series.

I know you have so many projects to work on, but I was just reading that fic you posted here where alice is kind of a witch (??) and jasper kind of kills her in the end (i forgot the title I'm sorry 😭) and I was thinking about how I think that one version of alice fits so much my idea of highschooler human alice and even the way her relationship with jasper starts. And all of that just to say: how do you picture a completely average human high school version of the cullens? Honestly, even as humans, I don't think that weirdos could ever be average.

The Dark and the Unknown! I'm actively working on it as we speak (it's being very difficult).

I absolutely love coming up with ordinary versions of the Cullens so I am obsessed with this question. I think any version of the Cullen family as they are in canon is going to be Weird, but being human makes it a little less obvious.

I will say that for me, one of the defining human-Cullen interpretations has to be Midnight Run by Inthemadhouse (tragically unfinished but one of the best Jalice fics online), so that has probably coloured some of my personal headcanons.

Strap yourself in, it's going to be long.

I'm working from the idea the family are Exactly As Presented in canon: Carlisle and Esme adopted a bunch of teenagers who then promptly hooked up with each other, with Edward being the first adoption, then Emmett, then Alice, and then the acquisition of Esme's twin niece and nephew. Obviously the ages of when they were acquired by Carlisle and Esme have to be fudged a little to make this work.

family stuff.

There is 0 chance that Esme and Carlisle (who I'm estimating are in their 30s because it's highly unlikely they would be approved for that combination of kids in their early 20s) would be paying out of pocket for five Ivy League educations plus dorm and books (approx 300k per student for undergrad). Without hundreds of years to build their wealth, Carlisle and Esme Normal Wealthy, not Batman Villain Wealthy.

I think Esme and Carlisle would want to teach a good work ethic, and set the kids up for success as adults. College would be an unspoken expectation because of white privilege and their wealth, but Esme and Carlisle would also accept a post high school plan that was realistic and researched. I also think Carlisle and Esme would be big on community service and volunteering, and not letting the kids just lie around during the summer.

Esme would have a small office/studio to run her architecture/interiors business out of, and she juggles work with running the household, and tries to give the kids more responsibility now that they're getting older. Carlisle would work long hours, but emphasise the importance of family time when he's off work - one of the reasons they go camping so often.

edward.

Edward is very literary and a bit pretentious. He reads the classics and has strong opinions and thinks that a lot of trends and pop culture is beneath him. He's the one wearing sweater vests and button downs to school - with a leather satchel - and his notebooks are all moleskines.

He thinks he's very artistic and spends a lot of time writing poetry and music for the piano, and pining for someone to understand him. He is insanely self-conscious about his appearance - especially his skin - and kind of awkward around his peers. He's not nearly as religiously coded as a human, but is determined to prove to Carlisle that he was worth the hassle of the adoption.

His best subjects are English Lit, Music, and European History. His co-curricular is probably the school play, where he plays piano. He's a nightmare to drag out of bed in the morning, and he tends to be very bossy with his family because he's been with the Cullens the longest. He's closest to Alice, but I see him actually getting along with Ben, Eric, and Angela at school. I think he'd kind of want to be friends with Jacob but try to be cool about it and come off as a snob. Edward cannot stand Rose or Jasper.

Edward would have been attracted to Bella's standoffish attitude when she arrived; the long-suffering thing is something he understands (he lives with four 'siblings' and only two bathrooms). They bond over classic novels and feeling out of place with their peers and whilst they get a little dramatic, they're very happy with each other.

bella.

We know teenage Bella but if she and Edward were humans together? Oof. Bella is starry-eyed over Edward from Day One, but knows how to hide it - she realizes that would put Edward off pretty fast.

I think Jacob and Bella would be quite close from her arrival in Forks, but Bella would be kind of on the fringes of her social set for all of high school. I also like to think that Jacob has his own friends and girlfriend, and doesn't spend his high school years pining after Bella.

I cannot see Bella and Alice being close friends in an all-human universe because Alice isn't starved for friends in this world, and Bella's got less of a reason to get her on side when immortality isn't the prize. I think they get along and hang out but they just don't have enough in common. I think Bella would irritate the shit out of Rose, getting caught asking too many questions about the family around school.

Bella would absolutely get pregnant before graduation. Edward has less religious hangups plus a contemporary upbringing... yeah, Ness was an accident. But Edward would definitely want to marry Bella before they went to college - I can definitely see Edward turning down Ivy League to stay with Bella at a public university.

emmett.

Emmett is sport like Ken is beach. I feel like Emmett plays two sports every season, probably coaches a kiddie league on the weekends, has a summer boy scout troupe, and works delivering pizzas after school. He loves the outdoors, loves activity. His grades are not great, honestly, but he does his best and he passes. He's definitely the student whispering if anyone did the homework and could he just... have a quick look two minutes before class starts. Emmett's one of those people who just has a lot of friends, though he would claim his best friend is either Edward or Jasper.

He's extremely popular because he's so friendly, and he's the kind of kid that adults go "Emmett Cullen doesn't sleep til noon on a Saturday. He's already coached two first grade basketball games and washed his mom's care by 10am." (Esme would look at them, unamused, and explain that she literally keeps two water jugs in the upstairs bathroom: one to wake up Edward and one to wake up Emmett.)

Emmett is also almost always the source of alcohol at high school parties, and makes the best fake I.Ds in the county. Charlie Swan knows it's Emmett, he just has no tangible proof. Yet.

Emmett has very little trauma due to being adopted, and definitely sees being a Cullen as winning the life lottery. He's the heart and soul of the family, and tends to use that to get out of any serious trouble.

I think that Rose and Jasper probably joined the family around age 12ish, and Emmett was probably smitten with Rose from first sight, and made a bit of a fool of himself and annoyed Rose for a few weeks before he relaxed and was just himself. He was naturally accepting of her boundaries, respectful, and the appropriate amount of protective over her when needed. I actually think Rose and Emmett got together after Alice and Jasper, probably around Freshman year. I know it's common that they are the pair that have the on-again, off-again dramatics, but I don't see it - perfect match. Emmett takes jokes about him dumping Rose for a cheerleader with 0 humor and shoots down any female - or male - that tries to flirt with him.

His best subjects are Gym and Chemistry. He's really easy-going and I can see him opting for a state university close to Rose because she has such strong preferences for her education. He gets along really well with the guys on the Res, hangs out there a lot, and is definitely a big brother figure for Seth after Harry's heart attack. He'd probably want to study something like video game design on a football scholarship in college.

rose.

Rose would not be a popular cheerleader. I need that out there. She has no interest in the social aspect, no interest in the culture of cheerleading, and has tunnel vision about her college plans.

I see Rose having a very type-A high school experience - all her classes are AP or college credit, she volunteers at the hospital in the summer (pediatrics), she runs a study group for STEM subjects because Forks High won't let her start a full-on robotics club, she's a member of the cross country team, and she works after school at Esme's office until she gets a job at a garage. She is utterly humorless about her grades, and she's going to be valedictorian, get into an Ivy League (ideally MIT, but she's flexible) on at least one decent scholarship.

And she makes it all look completely effortless. Meanwhile, she's still got a lot of baggage and trauma from before she joined the Cullen family, she's got a lot of anger, and she's just determined to rise about it without really dealing with it in a healthy way; Esme and Carlisle are terrified she's going to put all this work in, only to burn out before she makes it to college.

She intimidates the shit out of her classmates, and I feel like her closest friends at school would be, like, two other intense overachieving girls. She catches Bella trying to get gossip about the family from other students, and hates her from that moment on because Rose hates feeling like she's not normal. She knows their family is weird, but she wants the world to pretend it isn't.

I think Rose would actually become good friends with Leah Clearwater when she meets them via Emmett, and that she's insanely popular over at the Res with the boys because of her interest and knowledge in cars; between Rose, Jacob, and Sam, there is no car that they cannot get running again. I also think that Rose would stay in touch with Vera throughout their lives.

Rose and Edward hate each other with the fire of a thousand suns; Edward resents that Rose isn't grateful to Esme and Carlisle for taking her in because she should be honored (projecting just a little); Rosalie thinks that Edward is spoiled and has the self-awareness of a shoe-box and resents how treasured he is by the Cullens, but family therapy was just kind of a lot of yelling, so there's a mutual Cold War in the household.

Rose is also the most competent cook out of all the kids, but resents the fuck out of everyone when she's the one that the responsibility of cooking falls to on night's when the kids are cooking. The others learned fast that they had to participate or face her wrath.

Jasper and Rose are close in the way that siblings who have gone through something terrible together are, but their trauma is so different that it's hard for them to always related to the other. Emmett is Rosalie's foundation, her tether, and the person she hears no matter what. To the outsider, she seems like an ice-cold, controlling girlfriend but even when she's researching her college options, she's taking into account Emmett's wants and needs with those decisions. Rose feels so deeply that it makes her vulnerable so she hides it.

jasper.

I feel like before Forks, Jasper would have become very acquainted with drugs to cope with his past, and Carlisle and Esme had to intervene majorly - and that might have been one of the reasons that they decided to relocate the family to Forks. So like, now weed is his one vice to stay calm and get through the day, and he's pretty transparent with Esme, Emmett, and Alice about his smoking because of his previous addiction.

Jasper would be very quiet, and kind of just loom behind Alice at all times - I think 90% of the time, he'd have earbuds in. But he'd have a nasty temper and would definitely get into more than one fight, especially if someone said anything negative about Rose or Alice. And Jasper doesn't pick fights he won't win. He's kind of seen as the problem child of the family by the local gossips, even though Charlie Swan thinks that Jasper's a hell of a lot less trouble than Emmett. Charlie is, of course, totally incorrect as Jasper is the co-conspirer behind the fake I.D.s Emmett supplies, and has supplied a few parties with weed when he's feeling generous.

He absolutely got blackout drunk at a few parties before he quit drinking. He's kind of a sad and angry drunk, so it was for the best.

Jasper pretty much attached himself to Alice from his first day in the Cullen house, and they were definitely the first two to get together - Jasper has simped for Alice since he was 12, and has no plans to stop at any point. She's his favourite person, his best friend, and he's happy when she's happy, so he'll go to Homecoming, to the Winter Ball, to Spring Fling, Prom, anything to make her smile. He'll attend the school play every night because Alice designed the costumes.

At school, Jasper is the perpetual 'so smart, knows the material, puts 0 effort in'; he loves arguing with his teachers, and can turn a class into a three ring circus with minimal effort, but likes to save that for a couple of times a semester. He's the kind of asshole who shows up to finals, gets a perfect score, but hasn't handed in a single piece of homework. He's not really big on making friends, but he kind of does peripherally through Emmett and Alice. He'd argue his best friend is Peter, and they stay in touch for life. But he and Emmett get along great and are as close as bio brothers (even if Emmett cheerfully threatened to beat the shit out of him the first time he got caught with his hand up Alice's shirt.) Jasper definitely goes surfing at La Push and considers it meditative.

He and Edward have a frustrating relationship because of how much attention Jasper's struggles got him from Carlisle and Esme; Edward was jealous of how easily Carlisle told Jasper he was proud of him, and how Jasper was standoffish to Carlisle when he'd just been given the thing Edward craves more than anything. Carlisle also has an interest in history, and he and Jasper have long discussions about that together. Jasper finds Edward immature and spoiled but tries to keep the peace for Alice's sake.

He's most interested in American History and Technology. His co-curricular would be AV Club, but he really only shows up when they're pitching in for the school play. I definitely see Esme and Carlisle insisting he gets a job during the summer, and it would be something like helping run movies in the park during the summer, or working at the Forks Historical Society on Saturdays. He has no real plans for college, but I can see Jasper being one of those assholes who just gets a full ride to a really good school for reasons that are a mystery to everyone else.

alice.

Alice would be the most noticeable weirdo; I can see Alice being an Art Kid, and joining the school play just to design and make costumes, plus she wears a lot of homemade and customized clothing to school, as well as detailed make-up. But she's definitely up for joining clubs and socialising; I can't see her being a cheerleader because of the time commitment, but maybe doing ballet or gymnastics. Maybe a language club? And a photography club?

She's one of those people that just considers everyone a friend; I wouldn't be surprised if Esme and Carlisle had meetings to be like "no, Alice isn't ADHD. She's been tested, she's just high energy." I think she gets along really well with Jessica, kind of overwhelms Angela, and has a kind of Cold War of politeness going with Lauren. She's really welcoming to Bella and enthusiastic about her and Edward, but they don't have a ton in common so it's the odd movie night/sleepover when Bella's over at the Cullens.

Alice would be the peace-keeper between Edward and Rose and Jasper because she can translate Edward's dramatics into something tolerable for the others. She and Rose aren't super close, but they get along okay, and go shopping together often. Alice and Emmett probably have the most traditionally typical brother-sister relationship.

Alice seems a lot more innocent than she is, and that's partially her lack of memories from her childhood. She's very, very protective of Jasper in a subtle way; if he's drinking or getting high, she's staying by his side stone-cold sober, and she's definitely started at least one fight when someone said something about Jasper's scars. I think she'd have a lot of guilt over not being able to help Jasper with his addictions more than she did, even though she was a kid.

She's also the financial manager of Jasper and Emmett's little I.D. enterprise, and is definitely the sneakiest in the family - I think Alice would have a klepto streak as a human, and definitely be the one that knew her way around a lock-pick.

Her best classes would be Art, Economics, and maybe Forensics? She'd have no interest in English Lit or Sciences, but she'd get okay marks across the board - she's highly motivated if Carlisle is offering to pay them for As. She'd be looking at Parsons, Pratt, or RISD for college; maybe NYU. She'd have numerous jobs because Forks doesn't really have the kind of stores she'd aspire to work in, but I figure she negotiates selling accessories online with Carlisle and Esme instead of a traditional job. She'd volunteer to work on all the elementary school, middle school, and church plays.

I just realized today is my late granny's birthday, so y'all are gonna get some fun facts about her

she was born in the 1910s (she was already almost 80 by the time i was born, so most of this is either from her stories or stories from various relatives)

she was half native american, her father was a wealthy merchant who fell in love, this was not super normal for the time so for my granny's protection he paid off the records keeper to change her birth cert.

her father was wealthy as i mentioned so she lived a posh life, (until the money ran out), when she was 17 she drove a fancy car into a ditch and she didn't drive again for the rest of her life (she may have been drunk) again this was the early 1900s

She was married to 7 or 8 different men (the number is fuzzy)

She had between 14-24 pregnancies, 13 of those made it to adulthood, the youngest of which is my father

my favorite photo of her is her two oldest daughters holding their babies and her holding my father, my father has nieces and nephews that are in fact older than him, they sarcastically call him uncle

she got into a bar fight and ended up hooking one of the guys in the holding cell up with her oldest daughter (they were married for 60ish years before he passed, great guy, he was older than my mother's father lmao)

her and my grandfather (and possibly some other relatives) used to go to ummmm those shows that are x rated, peep shows, i think they're called,

she firmly believed in fairies, (perfect timing with the whole walrus thing) and most things supernatural, a lot of my family has carried that on, myself included (maybe not fairies but ghosts and some other stuff like El Chupacabra)

she was an expert seamstress, all the grandkids have cool dolls she made us, still have mine

She and my grandfather were divorced and remarried 3 different times, they died married

ironically both my grandparents were raised wealthy but all of the money dried up before they were adults (i'm talking generational wealth)

She was very pious, church was important, but she also wasn't judgmental, had no problem with her gay grandkids (again this is hearsay she was extremely old by the time i knew her)

she drank a glass of whiskey a night (sometimes more lmao), she took it neat, lived to be in her 90s! she didn't smoke but my grandfather was a notorious chain smoker, he was in his late 80s when he died (2 months after her)

Extra fun fact, my grandfather was a code breaker during ww2, he wouldn't speak around this certain part of houston where there are a bunch of phone lines and power lines, like he would just go silent, when asked about it he'd say classified soooooo idk, he also believed in aliens something that rubbed off on a bunch of us, he had 2 kids with granny, and adopted one of hers who didn't find out she was adopted by him until his funeral, she thought he was her bio dad

ALSO they both died in a house that is still owned by family, i have 100% heard them talking in the room they died in, the dogs (new ones that weren't around for them i was a teen when they died) refuse to go in that room, and other people have reported hearing them or seeing things in the room

Oh, what are your headcanons/ideas for Caballeron?

Okay so it was like. A lot? A chunk of them were written before 'Daring Done?' I think but I kinda rolled with changing that episode to fit.

ANYWAY

So!

Caballeron and Daring first met in the archaeology department at college(both of them have a doctorate in the field). She was a year older and the two weren't really close but they were aware of each other's existence.

While Daring went straight into adventuring, Caballeron tried more usual archaeology and ended up as a professor himself.

However...

Archaeology is a bit unpopular and underfunded due to certain things. Namely that just. A chunk of history has been rewritten. Nightmare Moon and the Elements of Harmony got the /best/ treatment of being just legend. Discord, Chrysalis and the Changelings, Sombra and the entire Crystal Empire, plus a lot of other stuff I'm adding to the Lore like other Immortals? All erased. No one's heard of any of it.

The Royal Family is aware, Celestia having lived through all that and her nieces and nephews learning family secrets. But at this point there's been so much rewritten and at the time Celestia thought it was better for the Kingdom if left forgotten, but now it's gone too far to turn back.

Except archaeologists dig that up. Because ancient artifacts would show that those things existed or mentioned them. But it goes so against the history and trying to say "hey this ancient carving indicates that there were several Immortals" when everyone /knows/ there's only Celestia and surely Celestia would've said something if she had a bunch of siblings, right?

So yeah very few Ponies have a genuine interest in archaeology and those that do usually become a bit disillusioned after a while.

This is what happened with Caballeron. He would find something on a dig, and then get it ignored. So why not do something with it and make some money for himself?

But he's not entirely disillusioned which is why he still teaches. But still.

Caballeron also doesn't.... He doesn't quite realize that some of the stuff he's selling are powerful and dangerous artifacts. Again, the Ponies have far too much faith in Celestia being able to keep track of and lock up any doomsday device. And he leaves after he gets paid for getting the thing, so he never sticks around to see Daring deal with the aftermath.

He does run into Daring again and while he offers to partner up, she thinks he's a villain and is also determined to work alone so she turns him down. They do keep up the Rivalmance though whenever they meet.

Caballeron finds out about Daring's books. A few of his students ask him about it since the character in the books match him directly. He's amused by Daring including him, even as a villain, but assumes that a majority of it is a work of fiction and Daring just used him for a few scenes. So he's like 'yeah I know the author and she put me in the book don't worry there's no doomsday artifacts haha'.

Eventually he gets roped into the rest of one of Daring's adventures and has a whole crisis of finding out the rest of the books are full real and also that he kinda had a hand in near world-destruction a few times. Daring's like 'My dude.... really??' but that does make a lot of his actions over the years make sense.

That shit kinda realigns your moral compass so he's not down for stealing in favor of random shady motherfuckers. But he does do regular stuff like Daring does now and if they happen to run into each other they actually mostly joke on the rivalry and work together more. The rivalry more comes into play at the end of 'who manages to run off with the treasure first?'.

Okay stepping away from direct archaeology for a moment:

At some point I decided that Caballeron and Filthy Rich were cousins. They're pretty close actually. Not as much as when they were kids because life got in the way, but he'll still pop around for birthdays and Hearth's Warming.

He is absolutely the 'fun uncle' to Diamond. Nice gifts and teaching the kid some badass skills behind her mom's back.

Speaking of. Caballeron definitely does not like Spoiled. He's never around often to really put his hoof on why she bothers him, plus she's nice because he brings great gifts at Hearth's Warming. But he is not surprised when Rich gets full custody in the divorce.

Since he's been to Ponyville, he's met Pinkie. And Pinkie is down to make friends with everyone so while he thinks she's a bit weird, he rolls with it. I think he's probably met AJ and Rarity in town before, but not in any capacity where they would recognize each other.

Caballeron was surprised to see her during the adventure in 'Daring Don't', but didn't really think much of it because. Well. It's. It's Pinkie. You don't question Pinkie.

This does lead to a bit of fun at some point when he's in town and Rainbow just sees him and fuckin tackles his ass.

Rainbow: "What the hell are you doing here???"

Caballeron: "Well happy Hearth's Warming to you too but what the fuck?"

Man is not the most observant when it comes to Ponies. So he totally never connected 'the rainbow-maned mare that helped Daring those few times' to 'Rainbow Dash the Wonderbolt and Element of Loyalty'. So that throws him for a fuckin loop.

But hey Daring says he's cool now and Dash has befriended worse so she's like 'okay it's chill."

He actually shows up at a great time because Twilight is actually kinda looking for an archaeologist pony to help her deal with everything in the old castle in Everfree.

She offers that and he's a little sus about it because that place is definitely full of historical things most ponies love to dismiss in his line of work. But that is exactly why Twilight wants to dig through the place. She confirms his suspicions about things being hidden purposely, and the Major Events happening have made even common ponies notice that fact. So they're gonna catalogue everything.

Caballeron actually loves the castle and its' traps. He makes part of the deal with Twilight be that he can bring his students there to practice dodging more dangerous ones in other places, because as of right now he just has a very home-alone-esque setup obstacle course but this is fantastic!

Also that one kid Petunia Paleo ends up his TA when she's older.

New Years goals I guess

So, this is that time when everyone is all oh, I'm going to work out and do all these other things I don't normally do, and well - I'll do them this time because this year I mean it!

I genuinely applaud those who do take charge of their lives and do something to help out their health or some other aspect of their lives. I've been there and done that; it's not easy. While, yes, I will be getting my working out/walking back to where it needs to be as I struggled with it more after the move and loss of my workout area being close by and just the overall state of my mind at that time.

For me though the real thing I will be focussing on this year is

SELF AWARENESS!

(this is gonna get all sorts of personal and all that, but the goal parts are after the paragraphs)

I didn't realize that an event that happened early in 2023 affected me as much as it did for most of last year. The loss of my 19-year-old nephew was, of course, world-shattering when it happened, and I really was not aware of how much it was still affecting me later in the year until a month after the first time (since the funeral) we went back and visited family. We had gone through a bunch of other changes in the months surrounding that time: we moved, were gone for a month, and then came back to have to finish getting the new house ready - so it was a crazy time, and I did not realize until it was too late that the reminders of the loss from earlier in the year were slowly messing with me until it was too late.

From the time I was young, I have always been the person who wasn't really able to fall apart; while still a kid myself, I was practically raising my 3 siblings, and childhood abuse and crappy childhoods of all sorts really do stay with you forever - no matter how much you think you move past them. For me, that's always been evident in how I focus more on others than myself, which is how I was unable to truly see how I was doing; too much focus on how others were doing.

So, while working on my self-awareness, this will also be the first year in quite a bit of time where I am setting goals that are all about myself. These are goals that concern things I want to focus on for myself. Revolving around things that have always been significant in my life - even when I wasn't doing them as much. Some of them are things that I really just need to remind myself of or are a bit vague, and others are more defined. - but they're all for me!

Bradley Gt Sunday morning Drive

Wanted to show people what it sounds like and it sounds like a Porsche and it's because of the exhaust that came with the kit. And it did have a a change exhaust on it and it's much larger it's not a huge modification. The VW exhaust is a hilarious looking thing and this exhaust looks pretty cool and sounds great he's going pretty fast about 80 and 90 miles an hour and pretty easily and he got up to about 1:20 and he can go faster this car goes about 180 and it cost him a total of $4,000 in 1972. And that's equivalent about $10,000 today. And it was for the whole kit including the Volkswagen and you cannot buy a car today that goes 180 miles an hour for under $40,000. The same was true back then although the 180 you're going to be 90% of the cars on the road and he wants a new kid and he wants the new chassis and he wants to buy it and it is Garth and he liked how it sounds and so did our son and daughter they loved it he says I want to buy one myself and he wants the GT1 because he doesn't want to get going too fast although that would be too fast for him the one we will come up with is for the Volkswagen chassis and it would be for the beetle and there's another chance that they make now before as well we're going ahead with us now and there's tons of beetles out there and huge numbers of people want to buy and put them on there and with the beetle engine it's going to go 250 mph and it'll sound like this but much much smoother it'll be a little bit cooler yes this is very cool people are looking at him it looks intense on the outside

I tried to show the speed but I guess you can't see it at all unless you have gear a lot of people can see it and I'm going 90 hundred miles an hour then 120 and you can hardly tell and it's not moving around much it is a performance vehicle and the Volkswagen was built very well and strictly. Keep in mind this is an old old car I mean it's over 50 years old it's almost as old as my nephew and he says he thinks so and it is it is an amazing vehicle and my nephew and my other nephew decided and it will have my nephew here as an insignia with his wife and it's still Pendragon with this another name for it and it's going to be great. He told me on the show so I decided to drive it around and advertise and he wants to get the factory going help me hand out flyers at the supercar meets so the idea is they won't let us in with the GT1 or GT2 even souped up so I'm going to come back with fires and they usually try and kick you out but we're going to stand outside then and hand them out to the people there and it's going to pay us to do it and so we're going to make us some money and we can become dealers he says because you put them in the warehouse and you distribute them be like a distributor dealer we know how to work it and they still have the same price and to give this money out of the profits and he says we can also stock parts there and sell them there at the storefront have a storefront you have a storm Western development actually they don't do general contracting of HMC make a storefront for you and you can make a whole bunch of them and you sell the aftermarket tires and rims and things like that that and the stereo equipment and interior stuff that are additional that people buy and he says that's awesome and cuz they buy the kit and they keep the tires and they look stupid they'll come back and the tires and rims are there for like 500 bucks I'm going to go ahead and do this it sounds like a lot of fun

I'm going to go ahead and make notes here this is a great idea and to get it going and when we get factories going so we want to we want to meet with vital and got his wife

I forgot one of my irl best friends' birthdays once, together with our other best friend (we're kind of a trinity). At the time, we were both just so busy that we genuinely somehow hadn't realised what date it was, and when our friend told us the next day, we felt SO bad and we sent her a bunch of cakes and flowers in an attempt to make up for it. Also, one of my clostest irl friends forgot my most recent birthday on the day itself (she did send me a card beforehand but she was hungover on the day itself and slept late and forgot) so in the afternoon I just texted her something like 'HELLO WHERE ARE YOU IT IS MY BIRTHDAY' because I knew she'd genuinely just forgotten what day it was and I thought it would be better to just address it in a funny way rather than have her realise the day after and feel horrible, you know? Maybe that might be a good way to go about it the next time something like this happens? Because when people don't remember your birthday, it doesn't necessarily mean they don't care, it just means they're too preoccupied with their own lives sometimes, you know?

feral cat dad: No, there isn't. UA is full of future heroes who will likely need to build muscle to save others, to do that, you need to eat well, Nezu's rule for us dorm kids has always been to make sure we eat, he doesn't care how much it costs as long as you're healthy.

deku deck-you: Wow, that's actually. Just wow.

farmer toshi: Your shitty parents put you on a budget, huh?

deku deck-you: Usually I had to cost less than 1,000¥ per week. It was hard, especially building muscle to be a hero. I ate rice and eggs a lot so I wasn't completely starving but it was always hard living with them.

ranch flavored jello: Aren't your parents like famous or something? Why did they want you to be on a budget?

deku deck-you: They didn't like dealing with me besides to scream at me. I think it was to keep me from leaving them. They'd hand me exactly 1,000¥ every week I had to use my money for food because they wouldn't buy food for me after I turned 5. Then they'd still tell me what I couldn't buy.

I woke up in the middle of the night. I was in my mother's living room babysitting my nieces and nephews. They were between 2 and 6 and I was a teenager at the time.

It didn't feel like I had fallen asleep, but I mist have because one of the kids had snuck past me into the room where the other teenagers were sleeping.

There were two girls and a boy, none of whom I recognized, and they were sleeping soundly on two beds pushed up next to each other.

Looking around the room, I found my niece asleep in front of the soundless television and another child, a little ginger girl, playing in a box full of dnd books and minis and dice and such. She looked to be about 5 or 6, kindergarten age.l, and looking back she resembled my sister's cousin, though I didn't recognize her (because she is actually my age).

As I walked into the room, she looked up at me and said "Oh, I didn't think anyone was awake." But continued to play with the tiny toys.

As I tried to get more information out of the little girl, where she came from, how she got into our apartment, that sort of thing, I woke up the other kids "my age".

At first they were annoyed with me for waking them up, but they realize there's an unaccounted for child in the room and they start freaking out. Eventually, I manage to figure out that she lives in the apartment across the hall, that our door was unlocked, and that apparently she came over often to play with our minifigs in the middle of the night when we were all asleep.

I get her up and bring her over so we can knock on their door. When her parents open the door, they're red eyed and frantic, crying when they see their daughter, whom they had assumed already had been kidnapped.

There was a lot of commotion as the parents realized that we weren't trying to harm their daughter. I've been saying the parents, but pretty much all of the active behaviors came from the mom.

The mom decides that we should host her daughter in our weekly DnD games. We agree, because the younger kids had already been expressing interest in playing, so rather than actually having them join our game, we set up a new one for the kittle kids who are just learning to read and such.

All the adults think this is a great idea, and so do I, so I'm the one who ends up DMing it. I set up a little website to have information about the characters and stuff, because the girl is really good with a tablet so she can navigate it. But I also put a bunch of information about the world and the campaign, because I decided that they should play in sort of the same world as the other campaign so we can have crossover type stuff.

I'm really proud as I'm setting it up, when the mother starts changing all the information I give them. Rewriting whole swaths of content, making her own maps of places. This would all be fine if she would tell me, who is running the games that she was changing stuff, because the girl showes up not understanding what was actually going on.

I worked it out managed to make the game work and everything, I wont go into full detail about the session, and at the end of it, me, the three teenagers from before and two other teenagers who cumulatively were our DnD group were all getting ready for bed.

Despite the fact that everything that had happened in the dream was definitely not all one evening, that is how I was behaving, as if i was so tired from having done all of this in the middle of the night.

We have the two girls on one bed, the three boys on another, and I got my own bed because no one wanted to sleep near me because apparently i was out as a trans girl at this age in my dream. After I finally fell asleep, I woke up for real in my own apartment at 24 years old.

Characters

Of course, we have Mituna as the crown prince of the human kingdom, and Cronus as the crown prince of the mermaid kingdom. There's a bunch of minor characters around---Meenah (as Fef's daughter and apprentice), Feferi (as the royal witch), Porrim (as a seamstress), Latula (as Mituna's girlfriend), to name a few.

Story

It starts out the same as the Little Mermaid story: Mituna gets caught up in a shipwreck, Cronus saves him, yadda yadda.

Fast forward a few days, and Cronus can't stop thinking about that human he saved. Kankri is tired of that shit but he's also kinda concerned Cronus is gonna do something wild. Which he does! He pops on over to meet Feferi and asks if he can use one of his polymorph potions, to gain a bipedal human form. He's like, "Sorry, your mother won't like that, so no.....

......buuuuuuut I can take you on my shopping trips landside!"

That basically means he does get a polymorph potion, he just has a reason that isn't "I want to see a human". So that happens. He gets left on his own---well, Fef left him with Meenah, but Meenah just gave him a list of the "groceries" he needs to get and promptly fucked off to see her girlfriend or something---and understandably gets lost. Cue him bumping into Mituna!

From here on I'm not entirely sure how the thing progresses. I know they have a lot of fun fucking around and finding out stuff. Probably get into more near death situations.

After a while they had a one night stand. Cronus gets pregnant because of that, and so stays underwater until it ends. When that's said and done, he goes to the surface once more to relay the news to Mituna, but upon meeting him, finds that he no longer remembers him (due to an accident he had while Cronus was sea-side, but Cronus doesn't know that). They argue for a bit, or something like that. It ends with Cronus trying to get Mituna to recognize him by telling him he's the one who saved him from drowning that one fateful day, only to get refuted, Mituna saying that his girlfriend---now his fiancée---told him she was the one who did so. Cronus is heartbroken and returns to the sea, never to be seen by the land-dwellers ever again.

Additional Notes

I want to think there's a good-ish ending? Like, years down the line, Cronus finally finds the courage to step onto the surface again to either visit his kid or show his nephew around. He bumps into Mituna, who's the king now, with his own kids, and Mituna's like, "Hey, wait a minute! You look like someone I know!" Cue Cronus debating running straight back into the ocean, Mituna telling him about the accident---just a very cute reunion. But I also kinda wanna just leave it at Cro returning to the ocean, heartbroken.

My biggest problem when it comes to Christmas is that I don't know how to stop buying presents. For example I got Bailey 3 things, but I keep thinking of other stuff he'd love and I cant stop. I want to give him all of the things! And my neice and nephew too. Even though I'm sure my parents have that one covered. I try to remind myself I don't need to buy them a shit ton of things because my parents already get them like 20 presents each. It's ridiculous. I try to get them things that are brain toys. I got my nephew a microscope this year and ordered a bunch of different slides for it, and I got him a lab coat and goggles. He likes science stuff so I think he's going to be jazzed about it. I'm also going to get him a marble run which is basically like a big track you build for a marble.. last time I saw him he was showing me his roller coaster he spent hours building on minecraft, so I think he'll like this. :) My neice is a bit more difficult. She's not much into independent imaginative play, but she is creative so long as she has someone there for moral support along the way. I got her a karaoke microphone, an otamatone, and a finger piano. My sister said she wants musical instruments. I figured she'd like those things. She likes being the center of attention so I know she's going to like the microphone a lot :)

I also get them a pair of crocs every year. It started off as a joke because my sister hates crocs, but the kids love them and wear them into the ground. So they get a new pair every year now. :)

And after that I swear I'll stop buying them presents.

I still have a few more things I'll get Bailey though. I was actually at a loss before today.

He is no help. He told me I should get him a video game, but thats lame. He can buy himself video games as he usually does. Then I remembered a conversation we had last week about how he'd like to learn how to do knife throwing and I said we could get targets and make him a little knife throwing area and he looked all excited. SO I got him some nice throwing knifes. I also ordered some throwing axes. I was even going to get those little throwing stars to be silly, buy apparently they're illegal.. 😬 I got him some targets as well. I'm sure he'll like this gift. I also remembered that he has a favorite comic that he and his friends always rave about. He doesn't own any copies of it and only reads it on his phone. So I found the hard cover of the manga and it's "deluxe edition". It looks really cool and I'm sure he'd love it. I just have to drive about 40 min out to the nearest B&N that has it. I also want to get him lounge clothes. Bailey doesn't own any sweat pants or pajama pants. He only has lounge shorts.. So I'm gonna get him some cozy winter lounge stuff. I also saw a hoodie that would look good on him and this weird tactical shovel I think he'd like... see? I can't stop. I have a need to give him all of the presents my money will buy up until Christmas time. Gift giving is definitely one of my love languages. My bank account says I need to chill tho.. 🥲

Even as someone who plans to teach elementary kids someday, I'm crap with reccing "age appropriate" books because my family never restricted what I was allowed to read based on my age/grade, and my children's lit class essentially taught me "the school librarian tells me what's allowed in my classroom" and "if nothing else, go by what Scholastic says" so... But Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, Boxcar Kids, Trixie Belden, and others in that vein (and Honey Bunch, but that's younger) are things (pt1)

passed to me from my mom and grandma that I read as a kid. Also Tamora Pierce (I only read Tortall, still haven’t read the other series), though I didn’t discover her until around 6th/7th grade. Percy Jackson is great, but I started them in college. Harry Potter I devoured as a kid. I read the Bunnicula books as a kid. Magic Tree House. I loved the Dear America series (though I prefer the original books with the ribbon book mark to the relaunched series look), and though I never read them (pt2)

I know there were several spin-offs, including one just by boys called My Name is America. Wikipedia says My America is supposed to be younger kids, and The Royal Diaries is teen years of royal women. There were also some done in other countries for their kids, and one released NOT by Scholastic for Mexico (in Spanish) and France (in French). I liked The Princess and the Hound, but didn’t read it until college. I really enjoyed The Obernewtyn Chronicles, but never finished it because I (pt3)

couldn’t find the entire series in the US (it’s Australian made). I’ve not read it, but Sherrilyn Kenyon has The Chronicles Nick, which are about Nick Gautier (sp?) from her adult Dark Hunter series as a teen. I really enjoy the Dark Hunter series, and I know lots of people who have started their kids on CoN. I’ll see if I can think of anything else and get back to you if I do. (pt4/end)

Yeah, I also have some trouble deciding which books are appropriate for them because at my nephew’s age (he’ll be eleven this summer) I was already reading adult books and no one really checked what I was consuming; my parents left me alone to my books for the most part. I’m checking the age level recommendations of any books I’m eyeing, and I’ll probably reread a couple of them just to see if I think they might be too scary/have content I think their dad might not possibly want them reading about yet. (Or at least content that I need to run by him first.)

I read all of Tamora Pierce’s stuff and I was going to include the Alanna series because I absolutely loved it as a kid, but then I remembered she has sex in the third and fourth books at least; possibly the second (I can’t remember for sure). Obviously it’s not graphic, they’re still children’s books, but I’d have to check with their dad if it’s ok. I think I was slightly older when I read those books; maybe 12 or so. I could send them just the first one at least; Alanna is ten or so in it and there isn’t any romance, if I remember correctly.

The Bunnicula books! I forgot about those.

I actually came across a Dear America book set on the Titanic that I read when I was a kid; I can’t remember if I read any others.
