On my way back from redeeming the empties, I heard two undergraduates discussing PhD students walking around the building in lab coats. I had to stop and tell them that any time they saw someone wearing a lab coat outside of a lab, they were to tell them to go and take it off. Lab coats are meant to keep contamination inside the lab. Depending on what you're working with, it might not be the worst thing to forget to take your lab coat off once in a while; but you shouldn't make it into a habit except to warn others away. If you want to be in the world and of the world, shed the signs of your faith. If you wear the signs of your faith, let others approach you and ask and listen. But remember that our faith is a precious thing that nourishes and sustains us, because we are deficient in some way. Not everyone needs to consume faith and let it consume them the way we do. It is not the fault of our finite selves that we have this flaw. We are steps on the journey of our infinite selves, and the serpent eats its own tail. The phoenix rises from the ashes, not the same accident, perhaps not even the same substance, but a worthy substance and a willing accident and a different kind of sacrifice. If you labour and are not weary, thank you for your service. You are worthy of your wages and your reward will be great in the next life. You are the Son who was always with his Father, even if the parables so often forget women within families. He told you to care for widows and orphans so that you would care for me. I am the prodigal son who has returned. I have no wish to steal your inheritance, but I know what my Father and my Mother taught me; and I was capable of learning those lessons because of my earthly father and mother. They have sacrificed enough for your earthly selves; and so have I, but for the sake of your infinite selves and those poor lost sheep, I will help you care for your flock. There's nothing wrong with being a goat, but if you are meant to be a shepherd, you had better either learn more about goat husbandry or try to find someone who can look after these goats, because if you keep letting them sicken and die while they're mixed in with the sheep, your Father will not be happy when He gets here.
Also please stop feeding bread to your coeliac siblings and wine to your alcoholic ones. They're metaphors, I don't fucking understand how you still managed to use them to poison your siblings and then claim it wasn't your fault!

spirk using telepathy to keep each other alive. kirk, desperate, psy-null and untrained, reaching clumsily into spock's dying mind and pulling, dragging spock's essence into himself, wrenching him forceably from the very jaws of death and holding him there through sheer strength of will, saying you can't die, i won't let you, you can't leave me, i need you, and binding him to life and to himself until it's impossible to fully separate them. spock, more skilled, carefully managing each one of kirk's vital signs - keeping his heart beating steady, his lungs drawing breath, his temperature within a safe range, all while suppressing kirk's pain, and at the same trying, vainly, to keep their minds from tying themselves inexorably together, but they're pressed too close and he can't, and he hopes that kirk will forgive him, for bonding them like this (he will, of course he will), but the alternative, letting kirk die, was - unthinkable.

Danny moved to Gotham.
Freakshow is touring in Gotham.
Freakshow knows Danny is in Gotham.
Danny knows Freakshow is still after him.
Danny's faith in heroes has been shattered.
Danny turns to the only person powerful enough to run Freakshow out of town, hopefully for good.
Danny turns to the Joker for help.
The Joker is looking for a new punching bag sidekick after Harley Quinn left him.
Danny is just the perfect person to be shaped by the Joker's hands.
Danny becomes the new Joker Junior.
#pondhead blurbs#dpxdc#how we feeling about this fellas#i think it's an ideal angst fic#but i don't wanna write it lol#the younger danny is the worse it gets#someone said that danny shouldn't be afraid of the joker because he's a clown and freakshow is a ringmaster. not a clown#if i find that post i'll tag the creator cause i can't remember rn#but i'm imagining danny who is heavily traumatized and scared and lonely#finding out that one of his worst enemies he hoped to never see again is hunting him and is so close danny has to check his eyes every day#just to make sure they haven't turned red#his anxiety is out of control and he's not about to go find a Bat or Bird to talk to#who would believe him anyways? he's a monster#but danny needs help cause he will not survive this on his own and he knows it#freakshow haunts his every waking dream#but freakshow isn't from gotham. he doesn't have the city's curses engraved into his blood. he never died and he's not truly teasing death#so danny chooses to plead for help from the only predator bigger than freakshow (in his eyes) who IS from gotham#danny goes to the Joker. prepared to offer everything but his free will and free mind. he can't give those up. it's all he has.#danny is a feral house cat asking a tiger to take care of a mountain lion for him by offering the tiger his own liver on a silver platter#joker is...delighted? maybe? no one is quite sure. but he takes what danny offers.#here is this little boy. almost the same age as the second robin when he died. pleading for the JOKER to be his savior. this will be fun

Joe Burrow doesn't mind being thirsted over on social media. While discussing his new "Choose Better" campaign with BODYARMOR, the Cincinnati Bengals quarterback, 28, tells PEOPLE what he thinks of the internet's crush on him. "It's been interesting to see how the perception of me has changed over the years," Burrow tells PEOPLE. "I never really felt that way about myself, and I wouldn't say when I was younger, other people felt that way about me either." Burrow says it's only in the last couple of years that he's seen the internet catapult him into heartthrob status, and while he's not exactly accustomed to the focus on his personal life, he appreciates the admiration. "I just find it interesting how the change has happened over the last couple years. It makes you feel good," says Burrow. "It definitely doesn't make me feel bad. So I don't pay attention too much to it, but sometimes it's nice." During his interview with PEOPLE, Burrow also talked about how he's been spending his offseason, and shared that he's "been more into audiobooks and podcasts," but fans of the NFL star may be surprised to learn what his taste in podcasts is like. "I'm into physics and science and things of that nature," says Burrow, "So Lex Fridman, I'll listen to some of his things. David Kipping has a podcast that I enjoy listening to. So mainly physics and science currently." Burrow is also enjoying meeting his fellow BODYARMOR athlete ambassadors like WNBA star Sabrina Ionescu, Edmonton Oilers' Connor McDavid and Dallas Cowboys' CeeDee Lamb. "I like how diverse the cast is, as far as all the different sports," Burrow tells PEOPLE of the campaign. "I just met Sabrina for the first time a couple days ago, and I have a lot of respect for all those names." Burrow says working with BODYARMOR "really aligns with who I am pretty perfectly," and the brand supports his "mindset" of "trying to get better every single day." Whether he's in the gym or listening to a science podcast, Burrow says he's always looking to be a "better" version of himself, especially after a disappointing end to the Bengals' season, with the team just missing the playoffs. "I know everybody on our team wasn't satisfied with how the season ended for us, so I think everybody is focused on the same thing," he shares. "That really aligns with what BODYARMOR is doing right now with the new campaign. If I can just get a little better every day, then I'll be a little better next year than I was last year, and you can say the same thing for the year after that."

Despite all his talks about not caring about not being chosen by the Keyblade, Sora seems to tie a lot of his worth into being a Keyblade wielder.Ā
Tumblr media
The time when he lost the Keyblade in Hollow Bastion was devastating for Sora. Not only his best friend had turned against him, but Donald and Goofy briefly abandoned him.
Although he seems to get over it pretty quickly, there were hints implying that moment hurt him more deeply than he let on. In KH3, he says that when he lost the Keyblade, Donald and Goofy had to go on without him, which I don't think is true? What was stopping them from following Riku with Sora instead of leaving him there alone?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think that moment might have affected Sora a lot, leading him to think that not only he is useless without the Keyblade, but his friends are going to leave him if he can’t use the Keyblade.
This comes up again in KH2, when Sora is completely lost when he learns that defeating Heartless with the Keyblade is exactly what the Organization wants. He says that he doesn’t know what he’s supposed to do if he can’t use the Keyblade and once again he feels useless, albeit he’s able to overcome this fairly quickly.
Tumblr media
Then he has to face the Mark of Mastery, and it’s the first time he’s on an adventure on his own. Although he doesn’t seem to care much about becoming a Keyblade Master, he’s confident that he’ll pass the exam as he sees it as a formality. Except, the Organization hijacked themselves into the exam, tricked him and he ended up having to be rescued and failing the Mark of Mastery, losing most of his power in the process.
He tries to brush it off, focusing on his excitement for Riku, but when Yen Sid talks to him after the exam, it’s obvious that Sora is devastated. That experience left him feeling very insecure in his strength, and the constant remarks from villains and allies alike only amplified this insecurity.Ā
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What happened during the Mark of Mastery deeply affected him and he never truly recovered from it (at least not yet). He has lost all his confidence in himself.
The Keyblade didn't choose him, he failed the Mark of Mastery, he's not as reliable as the other wielders, so, to make up for it, he ties his worth uniquely in his connection with other people. His friends are his power, therefore if his friends are gone, he’s worthless. He doesn’t believe he’s able to make it on his own. Not anymore.

Been thinking about Hosea a lot as I write this analysis on Dutch and Micah.
Maybe I’ll eventually whip something up about him, but for now I’m left with thoughts about knowing that not only is Hosea just as guilty as Dutch when it comes to how their boys were brought up (and continued to be treated through adulthood and ultimately up to their deaths), but also the way the two irreparably damaged John and Arthur’s entire lives beyond even their own comprehension. FURTHERMORE, they set forth a viscous cycle of familial violence and neglect that maintained momentum into the next generation. (See: John and Jack.)
The way Hosea’s action, but more importantly his inaction had in part led to… well, [gestures vaguely to RDR1 + RDR2].
Hosea might have been gentler than Dutch on the surface, but he saw it all, and at times both implicitly and explicitly encouraged it through the meticulous timing of his decisions to remain a ā€œsilent watcher.ā€
Yes, refusal to mitigate the violence makes him complicit, but the matter of the fact is… Hosea can’t even feign partial innocence as a third-party bystander because of how calculated he is in nature.
Additionally, there is no ā€œthird party.ā€ Dutch and Hosea are a single unit. They occupy the same space even as two separate individuals in John and Arthur’s lives.
The deliberate nature of Hosea’s inaction puts him in the same position as the ā€œperpetratorā€ because he isn’t just a watcher, he corroborates directly with Dutch and agrees with what he is doing on principle. He reenforces it in perhaps more subtle ways, but that doesn’t make him any less responsible for the outcome.
The only difference between the two is that while they’re dealing different cards, they are playing the exact same game.
#I’ve got some horrible little headcanons rattling around tbh#Dutch and Hosea have different methods and demeanours but truly are partners in crime not only in the literal sense but also are#one another's accomplice in how they raised/treat John and Arthur.#I think that Hosea gets let off the hook a little too easy and I really enjoy thinking about the implications of his behaviour on the boys#just as much as I enjoy analyzing that of Dutch.#Also??? The way that Arthur seemed to die not realizing this adds layers to it in my head. John had all that time to mull it over and think#after all that had happened with the gang throughout his life and I'm CERTAIN he did a LOT of thinking about when exactly Dutch's#true colours started to shine through over the years... so I'd say its safe to assume that he did a lot of thinking about the pair of them.#I want to know if he is capable of thinking fondly about Hosea in spite of this because he has been dead for a long time#Or does he hold a grudge against him even post-mortem? John at least got to have a conversation with Dutch and see exactly what he's become#I wonder to what extent that perfect image he had of Dutch being tainted caused him to see things clearer than#Arthur was ever given the chance?#Arthur died not knowing but I think John might have the tendency to ruminate on it in the years that followed.#I wonder what conclusions he came to about his life up until that moment while sitting alone in the aftermath.#Was he afraid? Did he even want to unpack all that? To potentially ruin every good thing he'd ever had just because Dutch went off the rail#in the end? If so... what would he have left if it turned out that nothing was ever the way it seemed?#red dead redemption 2#the curious couple and their unruly son#dutch van der linde#hosea matthews#arthur morgan#john marston#red dead meta#paisley.txt

Bartender: Hey, man, how's it going?
Me: Yeah, you know, it's good. Just thinking about how Gil Galad's kingship was haunted by Elrond. Like his first great failure after being crowned when he'd barely come of age was showing up too late to stop the destruction of Sirion. How he probably felt a deep personal responsibility to find Elwing's missing boys at least but couldn't even do that. Like, I know he probably got redirected by Cirdan toward all those refugees and stuff, but he probably really wanted a win, especially because he was kinda orphaned by then himself and knew how cruel fate was to the sons of greater destiny. Like all his family who'd been king before him died, like, horrifically? And then when Elrond returns all fine and he comes to Lindon and he's chosen the fate of the elves, Gil Galad's physically haunted by him again. See, but this time he chooses to be haunted by Elrond. Because I think he wants to fix what he sees as his first great failure by restoring a bright future for this kid which was robbed from him when Sirion fell--and it's probably like he wants better for him than what he got, too, because he got this kingship in exile thrust upon him when all he was doing was hanging out with Cirdan making ships or something with the other non-combatants and refugees like he and his mother who were fleeing war and violence and he was like fourth in line to the throne so he probably found out in one fell swoop that all his family's dead and oh, you're king and your destiny's out of your hands. So he's like, I'll make Elrond herald and give him all the experience and guidance on this leadership stuff I never got while also giving him better control of what kind of future he has. Then--get this--he never even marries or has kids and when his reign is coming to an end. . . Which, by the way, he probably foresaw his own death which is fucked-- because he gives Elrond his ring before the war of the last alliance, metaphorically making him his heir and also giving him the opportunity to shape his future. . .Yeah, yeah, cause Elrond wouldn't have been considered suitable to be a lord or a king or anything after he was raised by wolves the sons of Feanor. So when Gil made him herald it was like helping him gain political experience and any status he lost. So anyway, then Gil Galad dies, but in some ways he's spent a greater part of his life dedicated to the act of restoring Elrond to the path he should have been on in an alternate reality where he was raised as Earendil and Elwing's son and like correcting that first failure--but also changing Elrond's fate because Elrond has the ring, like, he literally has Gil Galad's legacy and power in his hands, something he wouldn't have had (or needed?) before. But he decides he won't be king. He'll use that power to guard the place that fulfills the legacies of both him and Gil Galad. He's rebuilt the home he lost, something Gil Galad was trying to give him, and then he makes it a place for all the orphans and the wounded and the refugees--like he even fosters a bunch of future orphan kings and like--
