After Charles ruined all my chances of having fun at the party, I was in the backyard, talking with a guy hoping Charles wouldn't ruin this one too.

Ethan, the guy goes inside to get us something to drink while I wait for him, enjoying the clean night sky.

"You know you could do much better than him, right?"

I ignored him, hoping he would get bored and leave me alone.

"What the hell do you think you're doing?" He comes closer to me, and I sigh.

"I'm just having fun" I turn to look at him. "I think I can do this one" I joke, knowing he would get pissed.

"The hell? you can't. You're not doing anyone except me." he chuckles but I know at this point I'm just getting under his skin.

"Yeah, I don't do idiots" I smirk. His face is slightly red and I can tell he's starting to be desperate.

"Just shut that mouth before I make you"

I move and start walking, making my way to the kitchen.

"You don't get it, don't you? You're mine!" He states and I laugh. He really lost his mind.

I keep walking, ignoring him all the time. Until my back is against the wall of the corridor.

"I said, you're mine." His face is just inches away from mine.

"I hate you"

"Why are you so stubborn?" I can tell his patience is running thin.

"I'm just being myself" I feel his hands grip my hips.

"You've been letting that boy touch you, even kiss you, why don't you just give up being like this?" he groans.

"I'm single, you just have to face that you're not the one I want, that's all."

He leans even closer, his lips now just barely brushing against mine.

"Let me go, Charles"

He smirks. "You're not going anywhere, and you're not letting anyone else touch you tonight except me".

I switch positions, making his back hit the opposite wall of the corridor, and kiss him aggressively with sight madness.

"I hate you" I mutter in between kisses.

The kiss keeps that hateful demeanor for a few minutes until we both need to pull away for air.

"You got what you wanted. Now leave me alone."

I can see the frustration and desire on his face while I walk away heading out of the party.

As the night went by, I couldn't shake the feeling of his lips against mine and how desperate he was, even though I hated him more than anyone else, I knew I needed to do anything with this. So I got in the car and drove to his place. I knocked on his door, waiting patiently so he would open the door for me. And once he does I freeze. After ignoring him all night, could you tell me what I was supposed to do here?

"What are you doin-"

I cut him up kissing him with the same aggressive demeanor I used today at the party, it didn't matter how turned on he could get me I still could feel the fire of hate inside of me.

"I fucking hate you" Our lips are so close that when I speak, they brush.

"Doesn't seem like you do" He smirks and i grab a hold of his shirt.

"I'll show you how much I hate you then" I step inside and close the door.

I could tell how confused he was so I pressed my lips against his again. My hands start to unbutton the bottoms on his shirt, my fingers sightly brushing the now uncovered skin of his chest and abdomen. I break the kiss to see down where my hands are moving now. I can hear his ragged breaths and I smirk.

"What's... that smirk for," he says, he's struggling to keep his breathing steady.

"For how pathetic you're being, acting like this is your first time being touched by a woman" I get rid of his shirt and as I slide it down from his arms I pay attention to the way his muscles are flexed. "Relax, I won't bite you" I look at him, and he's looking at me. "Yet"

Once his shirt is off I admire how his body is built. Fit and the muscles slightly marked. He's silent and probably questioning his existence.

"I thought you hated me" he whispers, his breath now more even.

I press my lips against his neck, leaving kisses and some marks. "You said I was yours today" I whisper in his ear. "I think you got it really wrong, "You are mine. The other way around" I smirk again and he shivers.

"I do" My hands fly to the waistband of his jeans."Where's the bedroom?" I say, still whispering in his ear.

He guides me to the bedroom and I take a look around, the room is decorated so like him, with cars posters, and a red wine palette of colors.

“This where you touch yourself thinking of me?” I pushed him onto the bed, watching his cheeks flush with embarrassment. “Pathetic.”

I dropped to my knees, undoing his jeans and sliding them off. He gasped when I freed him, his body betraying him. He needed me. But I already knew it from the beginning.

i tossed him a condom. “Put it on.”

His hands trembled as he reached for the packet, but he hesitated. “Leave the bra on,” he murmured, his voice hoarse. “I’ll take it off.”

I rolled my eyes but nodded. Sliding my underwear down, I caught him staring at my body, his eyes hungry. “Enjoying yourself?” I teased.

He was breathless. “I need you.”

Without warning, he grabbed me, tossing me onto the bed, pinning me beneath him. His hand struck my cheek, sharp and unexpected.

“Again,” I whispered, surprising myself with how much I craved the sting on my face again.

“You want me to slap you again?” He grinned, as his cock pressed against me.

“Yes.” The word left my lips in a breathless plea.

He slapped me once more, and in the same moment, thrust into me. I gasped, overwhelmed by the twin sensations of pain and pleasure.

His pace was relentless, hips slamming into mine as the room filled with the sound of skin on skin, moans, and growls of dominance. “Look at you,” he sneered. “Taking me, making all these noises for me. Didn’t you hate me?”

“F-fuck you,” I managed to gasp, though my body was betraying me with every thrust.

“You’re so pathetic,” he grunted, moving harder, both of us nearing the edge. My nails dug into his back, desperate for something to hold onto as my insides were burning in pleasure.

He groaned as he felt me tighten around him, and I fell over the edge, my mind blank, my body convulsing in pleasure.

“That’s it,” he muttered, watching me come undone. “Look at you, falling apart on my cock.”

He collapsed beside me, his breath ragged and uneven.

When You’re Sick (AOT Men x Reader)

A/N: Drabble/ head canons of how some of men from Attack on Titan would take care of reader when they are sick. Did this for JJK, stay tuned for the Demon Slayer one. No warnings, mostly just fluff Enjoy!

Characters: Erwin, Levi, Jean, Eren, Armin

Erwin Smith: *I just finished season 3 and I'm so gutted, I won't give spoilers away but I legit cried.

This blond haired blue eyed king is the commander for the Scouts so he is busy with a capital B. However if you were sick he would make the effort to take what little breaks he has throughout the day to stop by and check on you

I could see him bringing you hot tea or water when he stops by, placing it on your night stand as he leans down to give you a light kiss on the forehead

As the commander he doesn't want to get sick so he'll keep his distance if your super sick, but he would still come by to check on you and making sure your getting the best medical care

Once your on the mend I could see him making more of an effort to end his day earlier than normal so he can come cuddle you in order to make up for his slight distance whilst you were sick

You hear the bedroom door creak open as the last rays of the sun dip down below the wall. You sit up slightly in bed as your partner comes into view. "Hey darling, how do you feel?", Erwin asks as he comes a bit closer to your bed, placing down the tea he'd brought with him. "Better, still a headache, but no longer coughing, so I think I'll be good to back to work tomorrow", you tell him with a light smile. "I'm glad to hear that", he says coming to sit on the edge of you bed. Erwin reaches out to softly touch your forehead, noting the lack of fever before he leans to give your forehead a light peck. "Will you stay?", you ask him with pleading eyes. "You don't have a fever anymore, so I think I can if that's what you want", he replies. "Then please stay", you tell him. "Ok", Erwin responds before standing up to remove his his jacket and gear before climbing into bed to join you. "Thank you", you whisper as he pulls you to his chest. He hums in response, content with stroking your hair softly as the two of you enjoy a quiet night together.

Levi Ackerman:

Similar to Erwin, he is a busy guy, but that doesn't mean he won't take the time to take care of you. Before he starts his day he is making sure your taking meds, drinking plenty of water, and eating a little bit of food before he feels comfortable with leaving you

100% stopping by during meals to check on you and if you were really sick I could see him taking you to a doctor or getting you the help you need

We all know our short king is a bit of a clean freak so I could see him going out of his way to make sure your room stays fresh and clean, even though your sick, he'll mask and glove up to clean up your dirty tissues and such

If your super sick he'll keep his distance because he needs to stay healthy, but would want updates and such as your recovering. If you aren't to sick I could see him making an effort to just spend a little bit extra of time with you. Levi is a very caring person, so he would make sure you felt cared for during your illness.

"Goddam you look like shit", Hange says as you walk into the kitchen. Levi looks at you with a concerned expression as you hobble in the room. "Feel like it too", you mutter as you move to make some tea. "Maybe you should go lie down, I'll bring you some tea", Hange says with a bit of concern in their face. Before you have chance to respond, Levi cuts in. "Go back to bed, I'll bring you some food and water", he stays in an authoritative tone. You don't even argue, you just nod your head as you turn to head back towards your room. It's not long before Levi enters, gently placing a try of what looks like soup and tea on your night stand. "Eat", he says as he comes to sit on the edge of your bed. "M'not hungry", you say looking at him tiredly. Levi's eyes soften. "Eat a few bites, for me", he says softly, a tone reserved just for you. You take a few bites before you shake your head, signaling you've had enough Levi sighs, but doesn't push you further. "Sleep, if you don't feel better by dinner I'll take you to the doctor", Levi says pulling the blankets up to your chest. You nod your head slightly, "Thanks", you whisper. "Anything for you", he replies as he heads for the door.

Jean Kirstein:

He would do anything and everything for you when your sick. I feel like his partner would be his number one priority, so you'll be taken care of by him

I could see him taking you to the doctor right away, he doesn't want you to get any sicker. If your not sick enough to be resting, Jean would definitely take on some of your work to help lighten your load

He's making sure your eating, getting the necessary fluids down, and making sure you get rest if you need it. Even though your sick that doesn't bother him, he'll cuddle you and what not in order to make you feel better

If he can't be around you when your sick, you best believe that any chance he gets, he's stopping by to check in on you.

"Here", Jean says as he hands you a cup of hot tea. "Thanks love", you whisper, throat too sore to talk at a normal volume. "Of course, I do wish you'd rest though", he replies, a worrying look in his eyes. "It's just a cold, it'll pass after a few days", you tell him before sipping the warm drink. "Ok, but after dinner no staying up late, straight to bed", Jean tells you, giving you a serious look. "Fine", you mutter, though deep down you were happy to follow his command. Jean smiles lightly before kissing your cheek. The two of you spend the rest of your lunch break in comfortable silence.

Eren Jeager:

Eren might not seem very worried on the outside, but on the inside he's a bit anxious when your sick. Does not want you to do any sort of work, even if all you have a simple cold. Could see the two of you having a little argument over you working

Get's what you need without you even needing to ask. Want some tea, already in your hand, head sore from a headache, he's massaging it for you before you go to bed

No shame in sticking close to you if you sick, he's holding your hand/ cuddling you even if it puts him at risk. He wants to make sure that you are cared for in anyway shape or form

If he's unable to be around when your ill, Eren is totally asking Mikasa or Armin to keep an extra eye on you and to update him if anything changes

"You need to stay in bed, you have a fever", Eren huffs as you make your third attempt to crawl out of bed. "I don't care, we have work to do", you tell him angrily. "Hey, even the captain said to take a day of rest, so stop arguing with me" Eren replies with equal anger in his tone. You stop fighting at his words, "Really?", you question. "Really, a sick solider is more of a burden than an un-sick one, so please lay back down" Eren tells you. You sigh, but listen to him. "Fine, but only because the captain said too", you mutter as Eren softly drapes a blanket over you. "Do you need anything?", he questions softly as he gently rubs your cheek with his thumb. You shake your head no, before turning your head to kiss his palm. "Then I'll see you at lunch, please just rest", Eren says before standing up to put on his jacket. "Thank you", you tell him and you mean it. "Of course, sleep", are his last words before he slips out the door, leaving you to get some much needed rest.

Armin Arlet:

One of the sweetest boys out of the whole group. If your sick, he's there for you, even it means putting himself at risk. I could see him going personally out of his way to make you tea or even make you food himself if he has the time

Even if your not sick sick, Armin is already getting you permission to take a sick day, he's not letting his partner get more sick. If your really sick, Armin is taking you to the doctor

Tries to be with you as much as possible, but similar to Eren if he can't be with you he would ask one of his friends to keep an eye on you.

I could see him reading a book you or talking to you in his free time if you felt bored. He's going to do everything in his power to make you feel better

A light touch to your forehead is what wakes you up. "Armin?", you mutter, sleep still heavy in your voice. "Shhh, go back to sleep, I was just checking on you", he responds quietly. "What time is it?", you ask, rubbing sleep from your eyes. "After dinner, you slept most of the day", Armin replies a bit sheepishly. "Damn", you say, moving to sit up. "Don't worry, I brought some food if you feel up for it, but if you want to sleep, I save it", he tells you with a small smile. "I'll eat now, thank you", you tell him you heart swelling at his thoughtfulness. Armin sits on your bed, conversing with you while you eat and once the food is gone and your ready for more sleep, he gives you light peck on the forehead with the promise he'll be back soon to cuddle with you.

Top 5 Thai BLs from the past year? (2024)

Well it's a contentious field and there has been a lot, so I'll narrow it further and give you 2024 so far, from my personal favorites but specifically ones that I believe added to the zeitgeist in some significant way.

The Sign

This show is literally everything (except straight) all at once. It's BL, queer, band of brothers, romcom, erotica, PNR, fated mates, police procedural, fantasy, mystery, suspense, and slasher. It’s the king of genre mash-up chaos. Sure, it's madness but there is genius in it. Was it a crazy unhinged mess +1 roll for damage? Yes. Yes it was. Did it manage to hold all those tangled threads together? No it did not. Was it also a charming, sexy, engaging, non-stop piece of entertainment? Sure thing. I think this show is basically my KinnPorsche, and frankly I’ve been chasing that dragon naga since KP aired. Is it perfect? No. But it was balls to the wall FUN.

Cherry Magic (Thai remake)

Grey

A soft charming warm hug of a show about crushes and mind reading and self worth that really worked for me. With no-fuss execution from a consummate team (at GMMTV) and an OG lead pair (proving why they remain eternal and deserve to grow up). Look, here’s the thing, Cherry Magic is a great Thai BL in its own right - not comparing it to any other iteration. But even when I do compare (and I've seen all the Cherries and read the manga) it stands strong. I, personally, like the Thai BL slightly better than the Japanese live action yaoi, but I think that’s because I just really enjoy Thai BL's style and I LOVE TayNew. Also all the kissing was both present and better in this version. As it should be from Thailand.

Century of Love

This is a very pretty drama about a young man who fell in love with a nice girl 100 years ago, and when she died in his arms, he was cursed to live until he could meet her reborn self. Only this time around, she’s reborn into the body of a man. Or is she? I love it when Thailand gets all up in its own historical business and reincarnation and shizz. I like this pair (it’s not DaouOffroad’s fault I didn’t enjoy their first series.) Daou’s wushu is snazzy and we got a unique meet cute. (Erm… Remeet cute? Meet cute 2.0?) Ultimately, this is I Feel You Linger in the Air + First Love Again, rather than (as one might expect) Until We Meet Again or The Director Who Buys Me Dinner. The leads turned in great performances, although Daou outclassed everybody else on that screen. It’s a good story and a great BL and I can’t find any major faults with it beyond a certain level of camp that is sadly endemic to lakorns. It was, to put it succinctly, a VERY ENJOYABLE show.

This is the only "typical" BL I'll be recommending on this list and that's because this is such a FUN show. A charming quintessentially modern Thai BL about a doctor and a boxer who start as a one night stand and then fall in love. Great rep for everything from Muay Thai, to safe sex, to FUN sex, to ace, to bisexuality, to smiley kisses, to the first legal gay wedding in a Thai BL. It’s a delight and I enjoyed (almost) every single moment of it. With out question it's best traits are active positive representations of green flag boys, communication, and grown-up relationships but the chemistry is on point too. Highly recommended as one of 2024's best pick-me-ups. (We need it, been a bit of a downer year.)

We Are

If Wandee Goodday is your happy pill, We Are is the warmest hug on the planet. Of the ones on this list, this is the only one I've already rewatched. 2x (High praise!) I loved show. It was slow to find its stride (I didn’t get into it until ep 6) but I’m so glad I gave it a chance. It’s a soft ensemble piece with multiple couples and very little plot, but I didn’t care because it’s not trying to be anything more substantial. Essentially this was a series of vignettes covering one year of uni for a queer friendship group finding love, new friends, and laughter. It’s not being harsh with us or it’s characters the way some offerings of this ilk have been (side eyes Friend Zone and Only Friends) nor did it tumble into Gen Y chaos. In fact, this reminded me more than anything of a refined and elevated Love Sick - just with older characters and occurring within a genre that has matured too. In it's own quiet way, it was groundbreaking. It has that close queer friendship group meets earnest gentleness that made me adore Love Sick and Make It Right so much. In other words, this was Thai BL at its finest, finding it roots again 10 years on, but also stretching upwards and showing us what it could do with that original seed. So? I adored it. Did it blow my mind? No. But it left me smiling and made me belly laugh quite a bit.

I hope you give these 5 a chance.

Gone Awry

AN: my first epic fic of the month, with many more to follow! When I saw the prank prompt, I just knew what I had to do. So here’s Elpenor getting what he asked forHope y’all enjoy day 3!

Elpenor snickered quietly to himself, tying a thin rope barely above the first step of the stairs. (The last step if you were coming down from the deck.) He had seen Perimedes walk down the stairs to grab something from his room, and he leapt into action. He didn't know how much time he had before he came back, so he had to act quick.

He had fallen victim to a water bucket to the head when leaving his room yesterday, and had yet to repay the favor. He was hoping to catch him on his way back up. Maybe he'd bust his chin on one of the steps. It would serve him right.

He heard someone coming down the hall and ducked around the corner to hide. His heart raced in his chest, a proud smirk tugging on his lips. He heard a startled scream, followed by a loud tumble.

"Owww! ... Wait, what the hell? Who tied rope to the damn stairs?"

Uh oh, that didn't sound like Perimedes...

He peeked around the corner, wincing when he saw Polites in a tangled heap on the ground, pulling himself up. They locked eyes, and Polites gasped in shock.

"You!"

"I'm sorry! I didn't know you were coming!"

"Like that makes it any better! Hey, get back here!" he yelled as Elpenor ran down the hall. Polites scrambled to his feet and took off after him.

"I said I'm sorry!" Elpenor yelled over his shoulder.

"You will be!" he playfully threatened back, running a little faster to catch up. Elpenor looked over his shoulder and shrieked when he saw Polites right at his heels. He was tackled almost immediately, and he started begging before he even hit the floor.

"No! No please, Polites I'm so sorry! I swear! I'll do whatever you want!"

"Right now I want revenge! I bit my tongue when I fell! Do you know how much that hurt?" he growled, trying his best to sound mean and scary as he wrestled his arms down by his sides.

"And I'm so sorry! Please, you don't have to do this! What about forgiveness and all that other shit you preach?"

Polites scoffed indignantly, and Elpenor realized too late that was the wrong thing to say.

"Well clearly my lessons haven't stuck with you! Maybe you need a more hands on approach," he teased, walking his fingers up the backs of his rips. Elpenor squealed and bubbly giggles flowed freely past his lips as he squirmed on the floorboards.

"Nohoho wahait! Ihihi sahaid I'm sorryyyy!" he whined. He gasped and snorted when Polites wiggled his fingers higher up his ribcage, scratching just below his armpit.

"I don't think you know what sorry really is," he teased, adding a little more pressure to his touch. Elpenor squealed and rolled over, immediately regretting doing so when he saw the way Polites was staring down at him, wiggling his fingers menacingly. "But you will."

He dove right in, scribbling over his now exposed tummy. Elpenor tried to squirm away, but he was thoroughly pinned. All he could do was throw his head back and laugh.

"Ihihi ahaham! I'm sohoho sohohohorry!"

"Yeah, yeah, I'm sure you are," Polites rolled his eyes playfully, squeezing the soft pudge just below his bellybutton. His laughter rose in pitch and he managed to get one arm free. Elpenor weakly slapped at his hands, and it wasn't hard for him to grab his wrist and pin it above his head.

"NOHO! Polites plehehease! I thought you were nice!"

He scoffed at that, "This is me being nice! I could always yell for Perimedes, I know he's who that was really meant for."

"You wouldn't! Please, he'll fucking kill me!"

"I know," he shrugged innocently. "So just remember, I am being nice."

Elpenor whined, closing his eyes in defeat, though they flew wide open when he felt blunt nails scribble over his bare armpit.

"OHO SHIHIHIT! Please!  Ihihi cahahan't tahake ihihit!" he begged through desperate laughter. Polite just cooed at him.

"Aww, you poor thing! I guess you should've thought about that," he said with mock sympathy.

"I SAID SORRY YOU AHAHAHASSHOLE!" he yelled in out in frustration as Polites continued his attack.

"Alright already, I forgive you," he said, rolling his eyes as he pulled his hands away. Elpenor let out a sigh of relief, letting his arm snap down to protect himself. "But I'm still not done with you."

"What?"

"What do you mean what?,”he taunted, wiggling his fingers in the air above him. Elpenor squeaked and tugged at his other arm as nervous laughter spilled free.

"Come on Polly, please! You've had your fun, now let me goooo!"

"What's this? Are you begging already? No, that can't be! I've seen you take much worse than this, you're just trying to weasel your way out of a proper punishment."

"I am not!"

"It sure seems like it," he teased, poking all over his belly and in between his ribs. Elpenor jumped each time, letting out short squeaks and squeals with every touch. He poked faster and the sounds morphed into a fit of shrill giggles. His cheeks were flushed pink and his nose scrunched adorably.

"Plehehease! Ihi'm dying!" he cried out, desperately trying to appeal to his friend's tender heart.

"By the Gods, quit being so dramatic! You're fiiiine," he brushed him off, squeezing down his sides until he reached his hips. He bucked and shrieked, writhing on the ground as deep laughter burst free from his chest.

"I can't fucking breathe!" Elpenor lied, hoping that would be enough to grant him some mercy.

"That's funny, last time I checked you needed to breathe to speak. And laugh," he noted smugly. Elpenor growled and thrashed under him.

"Oh COME ON!" he whined, throwing his head back in frustration.

"Keep acting so funny, and I might not stop," he teased, reaching up to scratch under his chin. He immediately scrunched his neck and snorted, making his blush turn a shade darker.

"You cahahan't!"

"Don't tempt me."

"You sohohon of a bitch! I'll kihihill you!" he threatened through hysterical cackles when Polites used one hand to knead his hips while the other scribbled behind his ears.

"Sure you are. Now is that gonna be before, or after you laugh yourself silly?" he asked innocently, cocking his head to the side with a smug smirk. Oh that bastard.

"Just shuhuhut up! You're horrible!" he barked out before a loud squeal pierced the air, and he was back to begging and apologizing in an instant, "Wait wait wahahahait! I tahahake ihit back!"

"Yeah I bet you do," Polites mocked, grinning down at him like the sharks that trailed behind their ship.

"Fucking truce, okahahay! Plehehease I cahan't!"

"Okay! Just say you learned your lesson, and we can be done with it."

"... So do you want me to lie, or..."

Polites couldn't help but burst out laughing. He grabbed Elpenor by his shoulders, shaking him gently.

"You're insufferable!"

"I'm insufferable?"

"That's what I just said."

Elpenor groaned, letting his body go limp and flop back on the ground with a heavy thud once Polites let go.

"You're really mean, I hope you know that," he pouted, glaring at his friend, even if he didn't really mean it.

"Guess you guys are finally rubbing off on me," he teased, finally letting him go.

Suddenly, a loud yelp followed by a heavy thump and tumble could be heard from down the hall.

"WHO THE FUCK TIED ROPE TO THE FUCKING STAIRS?"

Elpenor's eyes flew wide open as he heard Perimedes scream, and Polites looked at him with a half sympathetic look.

"I'd hide if I were you."

Elpenor was already scrambling to his feet, "Yeah, no shit." He dashed down the hall turning around the corner and out of sight.

The Amazing Digital Circus Episode 3 - "As Iron Sharpens Iron-"

To say I was excited for this Episode to come out is an UNDERSTATEMENT.

Ever since Episode 2 PROVED it to me that this show was going to be something very special to me, I've been very invested and eagerly waiting the next installment.

This also marks the FIRST Digital Circus Episode where I CAUGHT THE PREMIERE.

I didn't see the Pilot until a month after it came out because I didn't know about the show. And Episode 2 I was at work at the same time of the release. I had a nerve-wrecking day.

But this time I CAUGHT IT, AND I COULDN'T BE HAPPIER TO.

So I was excited, especially when it was hyped up as the best episode so far!!!

IT WASN'T, BUT I STILL REALLY LOVED IT.

Yeah... I said it. I will be the first to say this:

As of right now, this is my least favorite episode.

NOW HOLD ON, THAT IN NO WAY MEANS I DISLIKED IT. THIS EPISODE IS GREAT.

Which should really tell you the quality of this show.

This IS a review based off a first viewing, so be aware of that. Y'all know I'm gonna rewatch this multiple times. So maybe my problems will become less problems.

I also CANNOT WAIT to see all the Angry Karens raging on the Internet about the show! "THIS CARTOON IS TOO DARK AND SCARY FOR MY CHILDREN!! I OUGHTA SUE YA GLITCH!!"

To that I'll say "F%#K YOUR KIDS, CARTOONS ARE FOR EVERYONE!!" (No I won't, but you get the message)

You want a kid friendly haunted mansion episode, NINJAGO SEASON 5 GOT YOU COVERED. (One of the best episodes in that show btw)

I would argue the circus tent is a lot scarier than a haunted mansion, but whatever.

But I do need to explain WHY I find this episode the weakest, and also gush over the good stuff cause there IS good stuff.

So I need to get into spoilers:

I've complained before in the previous two episodes that the B Plots were my least favorite thing about this show. They weren't bad, they just didn't grasp me like the A Plots did (AKA whichever plot Pomni has going on).

But I was really looking forward to them fixing this issue with this episode, especially to aid the characterization of Zooble. A character that has been very neglected. I was expecting this therapy session with Caine to be both chaotic (Because it's Caine) and inciting.

Did it deliver with that??

Yes AND No.

Technically, YES, it was inciting and we learned more about Zooble. They're not straight. They have dysphoria. They're very uncomfortable with their body which is why they're constantly changing parts. And because of that they don't feel like they fit in with the people around them.

LGBT+ Symbolism. Trans Symbolism. Zooble has dysphoria. CALLED IT.

(I mean, Jax even SAYS Zooble isn't straight in the episode)

And hey, just because I guessed what it was and saw it coming, doesn't mean I'm not very appreciative they brought it up. It helps with Zooble's character, and I'm sure the trans audience enjoyed it. I'm cis though, so I don't find it personal. That can't be helped.

We also learned about CAINE's mentality. The A.I was only programmed to create adventures. So he relishes in that because it's the only thing he knows how to do and knows how to help. And Zooble snarking at the very thing Caine was designed to do... BREAKS HIM.

And I am already theorizing, because Caine mentally breaking like that CAUSES A GLITCH IN THE ENTIRE CIRCUS.

So... CAINE'S mental state is what's keeping the circus afloat. THAT SAYS A LOT.

Yeah I definitely think he's getting redeemed, AND this is gonna come up later.

But other than those two scenes, I was a bit disappointed with this plotline. I feel like it could've been longer and we could've learned more. Or, let me rephrase that, at least ONE more cutaway to them.

As it stands, while this is TECHNICALLY the best B Plot of this show's episodes, it is still a B Plot that suffers from being much less interesting.

Idk, maybe this is a 'first viewing' issue, and when I watch the episode again, I'll understand it better.

Oh yeah, speaking of B Plots, we BARELY get ANYTHING regarding the pacifist route.

Once Pomni and Kinger fall into the hellhole, we don't hear from Ragatha Gangle and Jax FOR AWHILE.

And then the next time we see them, they're having tea and being friendly with the hunter's ghost wife, who DID NOT get an in person introduction. And they tied up Jax off screen. WHAT?!?! HOW DID Y'ALL GET HERE?!?!

It wasn't their episode, I understand why the episode wouldn't focus on them, but I DID want an explanation as to how we went from THIS, to THIS.

AND NO ONE BOTHERED TO SHOW CONCERN FOR POMNI AND KINGER THE WHOLE TIME?!

I also feel like it could have, at the very least, benefited Ragatha. But because we don't get anything, her little moment with Pomni at the end felt quite out of nowhere. Because... they didn't have any exchange this episode. I mean good for Pomni for finally expressing she likes her I guess.

Also... that whole exchange was really platonic...

Overall, I really think this is a pacing issue. The pitch black scene with just their eyes is VISUALLY GREAT, love that they're experimenting with different art styles, BUT OH MY GOD THAT SEQUENCE DRAGS. It could have been HALF as long and the point would've still come across.

I also am just not a big fan of haunted mansion stories. And I know that MIGHT be just a me problem.

But in my defense, Ninjago Season 5 had a haunted mansion episode, and that was one of their best episodes that really SAID SOMETHING and taught the main characters something valuable.

THIS haunted mansion feels more like an obstacle more than anything else. Unless there's some deeper meaning behind the mansion's lore in the future, but I doubt it because it's designed to be a one time thing.

I'm MUCH more invested in the PSYCHOLOGICAL horror of the show instead of the PHYSICAL horror. And I think that's why The Pilot and Episode 2 felt a lot more scarier to me than this.

Don't get me wrong, the dismantled heads and the corpse monster ARE scary. The lit up severed head MADE MY SKIN CRAWL when I first saw it. So did Possessed Pomni.... is it bad that I'm kinda obsessed with Possessed Pomni though? But the scary imagery doesn't do much for me unless there's a deeper meaning behind it. Because after my skin crawl I was able to say "Yep. That's the severed head alive and glowing." "That's it's headless body."

When Pomni got possessed by running through the hall of souls, I remember saying aloud "NO DON'T DO IT".

And the thing that ACTUALLY scared me was when they said "How's your wife, Kinger?"

THAT'S the scary part of that for me.

They also OUTRIGHT TELL you the message of the episode this time.

Now I DON'T hate that they did that, it's meant to be a nice moment between Kinger and Pomni. But I MUCH prefer the approaches the previous episode had with showing its message and letting us pick it up for ourselves.

I don't think that's too much of 'dumbing down' though. Episode 2's incident is different. And this episode it IS meant to be a nice moment between Kinger and Pomni and that's why it had to be told.

So yeah, that's what's keeping this episode back for me.

Okay let me talk about the great stuff now. Aside from what I already mentioned.

ANIMATION.

I LOVE that they're experimenting with different styles, like I said. The 2D eyes look really good, and the little hand drawings at the beginning? Love them. They're so cute. PLEASE keep experimenting with animation techniques.

I was also REALLY WORRIED that the Episode's lighting would be too dark for me to see anything that was going on.

This is a BRIGHT show, especially in the previous two. So it's kinda offputting to see these cartoonish characters in a realistic setting. (That's probably on purpose)

But no, it ended up NOT being an issue for me. I followed everything that was happening perfectly.

Also POMNI AND KINGER.

They were EASILY the BEST thing about this episode. Hands down.

EVERY scene with them and their interactions is GOLDEN.

I SERIOUSLY thought Pomni was gonna take a backseat for a couple of episodes to make way for everyone else. But she IS the main character, so I should've suspected that wouldn't be the case.

The story LETS her BE the protagonist, WITHOUT taking anything away from the other character's development. Every scene aids BOTH HER & THEM.

She's such an incredibly written protagonist AND WE STAN IN THIS HOUSE.

But enough about her.

I KNEW this episode was going to make me understand the Kinger hype and love him, AND I WAS EXACTLY RIGHT.

I was wrong about it being schizophrenia. Instead his issue is dementia, which is memory loss/problems. But I'm not mad at all that I got that wrong.

I'm not someone who has dementia, so I can't speak if it's accurate or not, but I LOVE how it was handled here.

Kinger's brain works much differently from everyone else due to his past experiences, and there are certain triggers to his sanity. SO THAT'S WHY HE STAYS IN A PILLOW FORT. I GET IT NOW.

Also HIS WIFE.

Okay yeah so I was wrong about what the relationship was. But I don't care. I LOVED THIS BACKSTORY.

Kinger DEFINATELY went up my list for me thanks to this episode, and I KNOW he's gonna be a key player in the future. If his "seven years of computer science" line is anything to go off of.

I love him so much. Your honor, I love him. I wanna protect him.

These two make such great friends and I'm completely here for it.

And the episode STILL maintains all of Digital Circus's great qualities. Thrilling action, sharp comedy, great character interactions, excellent characterizations. And also much more theorizing material that will rot all our brains.

Great Episode. 8/10.

I'm not gonna screenshot it bc 1/it really doesn't matter that much and 2/the person who made the comment is a kid but: a while ago I made a comic that's supposed to be a genuine study and reinterpretation of someone else's sprite comic (made in the spirit of authenticity too - to recreate the vibes of the sprite comics from that era, iirc very specifically because it's funny) and I got a comment on that comic's post that's like "glow up"

which is a compliment obvs. and the commenter probably didn't mean anything by it, it's a common expression. but I've been trying to find a way to gracefully put that comment away ever since it appeared lol

I just very much don't want my art to be taken as trying to one-up someone else's art when that's not the piece's intention. especially when the piece that inspired my art is perceived as "low effort" or "shitpost" or stuff like that. I did mention in the tags of that post that my considering it a study is entirely genuine, and I can legitimately write pages about the cool stuff I find in it other than and inherent in the haha funneys, but that's not for you guys that's for me. I just think that approaching art competition-first like that is a miserable way to do it, and (tipping into overthinking here if the whole tiny-comment-got-stuck-in-my-brain-for-almost-a-month part hasn't given that away yet lol) I really don't want that to be the takeaway from my own art. at least generally. if I actually think the source material is trash and what I'm doing is genuinely categorically better I'd just come out and say it lmao

EO3 (partial) lineup - November-December 2022

Peak MAbo is collaborating with your best friend for a(n admittedly unfair) final project (for web development!!!! an elective!!!), saying you would post it, forgetting about it for a year, posting it on Artstation and forgetting about it again.

As always, AC drew the lineart, and I colored. Designs were more of a collaborative effort between the two of us!

Probably should have shared this when the HD collection came out... anyway it's here now!

Some design ramblings under the cut :0! There's a lot i wanna share especially given that we recently did a soft rewrite that departed from the guild system entirely ^^" and EO3's cast was actually one of the first that we had, surprisingly!

Micah is quite clearly alt gladiator 3, but in an entirely different profession. instead of going into the labyrinth, he works in what i imagine would be an analogue to the forge in Tharsis (aka helping people make things busted af). It probably works best for his character, since he was always a gizmo freak even in his first iteration! geomagnetic (or submagnetic, ugh) gizmo is AC's idea!

Micah's brother, Eva, is a very loose spin on zodiac 3, but with a wayyyy lighter colour palette. Admittedly, i did steal a little bit of the spiritmaster's coat from bravely default, but AC managed to spin it back to resembling the original coat that the class had. Eva works as an astronomer, hence the little telescope he always has on him.

Next up we have Eva's protégé, Miri (who was imported from AC's stories)! Theoretically, Miri would be a second zodiac, and, after watching some EO3 speedruns, would probably be really strong in the earlygame when working with Eva in an actual playthrough. AC's design heavily borrows from Patho II's Grace, hence the coat + dress combo.

Following Miri in this lineup would be Noa, her admittedly very lazy but clingy sibling. I think it's apparently here that we didn't have much time to filter what a believable design would be in an EO setting, given that Noa's clothes were translated directly from our designs of them in school attire. It's actually funny how for we diverged from their original portrait (buccaneer 3) to the point that she is literally unrecognizable. Truly a pipeline from good sea boy to j-horror twist character.

Last in the OC section would be Masaru, who recently found work for the Senatus. Admittedly he does have another example of "incongruent time period" clothing (the jacket), though it's a lot more reworkable than Noa. We also made his design a lot less poofy and rugged compared to the original, and I mixed the base and alt color palettes as well to make him less, well, glaringly red. Probably one of the funnier things is that his clothing palette made him blend in more with the likes of Kujura, but given that they work for the same place, it'll probably work out fine.

Now we go onto NPCs, and who better to start than with Flowdia! Admittedly, her art was one of the last ones that we did, hence why her design looks relatively plain (sorry lola). Probably one of the things I would like to add would be more ornate patterns, perhaps of butterflies to tie her closer to Gutrune!

Before we get to the Princess, we gotta get through her bodyguard first! >:0 I honestly don't like Kujura because I answered honestly in his first question, and he said that I was prideful, but AC likes him so he looks really good here. He isn't as rendered here as he is in his portrait, since he was also one of the last characters we made, and I didn't really get to notice that he doesn't have as much value contrast in his clothing as Masaru does. Probably something to think about next time I color him >:0

Next up we have Gutrune!! We decided to make her look more jellyfish-like, while still keeping it a bit uncanny and unsettling. We tried to give her a more traditionally Filipiniana look (mostly on the Maria Clara gown), but we haven't yet made a poncho design that mixes well with butterfly sleeves without looking cluttered. As such, she has a more nightdress-y look here. AC drew in a few tentacles, and I couldn't help but make them look squishy.

Last but not least is Olympia! We wanted to align her appearance more with her background, hence her altered design :0 Having rips of the artbook easily accesible online also helped us flesh out her hair in particular, since we didn't want to just transplant Gutrune's hairstyle onto her.

And that's all of them!!! I'm honestly hoping to draw more EO characters, though Seyfried's design scares me (honestly the reason why I couldn't make a Reversed Emperor comic).

Currently, I've made a lot of progress on the EO4 game, and I'm excited to draw up the three N-turned-PCs + Xiuan >:'0!!! I don't think I can ever get as cool as Morika tho.
