Considering setting up an art shop, does anyone have any recommendations? Etsy, redbubble, etc? There’s a lot of options and it’s a bit daunting, but I’d love to sell my work just as soon as I can figure out how!

Rambling Thougts
So obviously the show just wrapped up. I had some back and forth thoughts about the final episode just like everybody else. Regardless, my opinion about the episode isn’t what this post is about.
Now that the show is done and concluded I feel a sense of emptiness. I feel stuck and dejected, yet also a sense of appreciation and gratitude.
I’m a chronic lurker online. I never post or reply, I won't ever comment. I leave likes and reblogs often, but that’s on my main, where I can't even get myself to post this. I came into this fandom late. I actually decided to watch it because I saw a family member watching it twice and ironically enough it was the final episode of season 1 and then season 2. I started watching and have been following along for the past year or so. It became a huge fixation for me and I happily liked and reblogged posts, art, fanfics…etc.
But I never shared my thoughts, my observations, my praises, my art, my love for this show and the fandom community that it created. I only just recently posted my very first piece of fanart on this very blog. But even then I feel too late.
I’ve spent years lurking and I've watched t.v shows, movies, and book fandoms sizzle out in popularity once the show has ended. Even some extremely interactive and thriving communities burn out when the show ends. I feel like once again I have deprived myself the opportunity to engage with yet another fandom community. A community that understands better than anyone else in the world how it feels to be so deeply connected to something, to be nerdy about something we love and enjoy without judgment or fear of others not grasping in the way we do. It’s these communities that for a fleeting moment make me feel as though I truly belong, and somehow I feel that I continue to deprive myself of these interactions.
Obviously I kinda spiraled here, haha.
I truly loved this show, its characters, world building, it’s jam packed story, and all of it’s quirks. Though I never openly participated in the fandom, I wanted to thank the community for being so welcoming, so creative, and making me feel like I belonged without ever knowing I was there. It’s truly something when a bunch of strangers can come together on the internet to openly, warmly and passionately engage with each other to express their love for a show as special as The Bad Batch.
Anyway, I’m not sure anyone will actually read this but I thought I might as well give myself a bittersweet farewell to a missed opportunity, a I'll miss you to a show that I deeply loved, and a hard shove to a more interactive stay on this odd place we call the internet.

I just recently got back into the trolls fandom after so long and I adore your Hefty x Branch art!! I am thinking about these two a normal amount now, I swear. I am not thinking about a whole bunch of scenarios and situations with the both of them, I promise. I am not thinking about how these two, strong, heart of gold idiots(affectionate) are good at bouncing off of one another. No siree. How Hefty could be there as a strong, stable presence to calm Branch down and reassure him when nightmares of his past become too much. Help him bring back some of his colors back when they begin to fade ever so slightly. How Branch can see how lonely Hefty is despite being in a village of a hundred other smurfs with a hundred other personalities, and can still see him and knows it's Hefty even at a glance.
How Hefty melts at Branch's voice when he opens up enough to sing for him. Even if he himself can't hold a note the moments singing together makes his heart burst. How Branch can match Hefty's strength and passion and how much they match and yet are so very different. Protectors by nature and lovable dorks at heart.
Yes, a perfectly normal amount of thought for these two. Mhmm. Yup. Totally.

I fricking love those headcanons. They’re just so fricking cute together. Holy shit. Anyway, I checked Tumblr at the right time to—not only answer this ask—BUT ALSO BECAUSE I WAS IN THE PROCESS OF MAKING MORE FANART.
It’s not done yet, but there might be. . . Uh 6 more panels to these 3 sketches? I haven’t gotten around to adding in the text yet, but like, there’s a total of 9 panels, I’ve finished sketching 3, and there’s text for every panel. Anyway, enjoy these sketches for now. I PROMISE I’LL FINISH IT, PLEASE. (P.s. it’s an outdoor wedding, just for the record.)

Hey!! This is the anon from a while back who had that convo with you about quirkless discrimination with your cannon vs fannon posts. The one who sent a way too long ask haha.
I still haven’t picked back up BNHA, just still dinking around in the earlier seasons with my writing after dropping it so long ago due to the exact reason you outlined; I stopped watching due to a certain character stagnating while saying they’re changing. Which I find amusing how prevalent that problem is in so many arcs that it’s the reason I stopped watching the show actual years ago (though not solely, it was that + a combination of other things with that arc but it really exasperated it) and you’re now talking about the same exact issue for the end of it. I don’t even feel like I can say it’s due to external pressures rather then just a weak point of the writer at this point tbh.
But, besides that, on the topic of why I initially started this ask, I just wanted to say it’s interesting to hear the story has still done squat with quirklessness, really goes to show the whole glaring divide in exactly what we where talking about so long ago. Full circle kinda?? It really is such a shame the show never went into it and kinda failed to scratch the surface of anything with how compelling it would have been and how easily it could have tied into the whole of the series’ themes.
But hey, like you said, there’s always fanfics. Just thought I’d send in an ask about it since it was fun talking to you about it last time.
Now that it’s over, I might give the show another shot, for old times sake, we’ll see!
Oh as an add on, as the fannon vs cannon anon, I do want to put a note that since I haven’t seen the thing myself I’m not making too strong opinions on it or agreeing with everything in that post, just contemplating the specific stuff I talked about in that previous anon ask as a sort of now outsider to the series.
This isn’t a “oh you’re wrong!” but making sure people know I’m not blindly following things I’ve read about a series rather then forming opinions around it from first hand cannon, HA! I’ll do that when I maybe start watching it again…one day…
-
(The post under discussion)
Hello again! Glad you're still enjoying the fandom space and haha, it's ironic that this issue is why you dropped the show. I'm also going to caveat that I'm not trying to dunk on Horikoshi or be a bitter hater. The issues I'm bringing up are par for the course for most serial writing, way harder to avoid than they seem. I really liked MHA overall and have huge respect for Horikoshi's writing, art, and ability to keep his sanity while bringing this behemoth to life.
Anyway, a response.
I mentioned a few aspects where quirklessness got brought in later in the story, but overall, yeah, it still felt kind of… vestigial. To me it felt like the author threw it out there at first thinking it was a cool idea, then later went "ugh, shit, that's not actually where I want to focus. I can't retcon it, so let's just... minimize it and move on." A lot of times when big series start, they toss out a whole bunch of possible story hooks and then narrow down to just a few that they're actually going to spend serious time on... anyone who gets hooked on a premise that doesn't end up being developed further can be left feeling disappointed.
I suspect this is exactly the reason why MHA has such a giant fandom. The show's clown-car cast means that pretty much no character really gets "deep" treatment. Instead we get 1,000 tantalizing flashes of really, really cool possibilities. We get sucked in by an awesome idea, get frustrated when the cool character/premise barely gets touched again after that, and then feverishly fill the empty space with fanfic and fanart. (I'm lucky that my favorites, Izuku and All Might, were about the most main of main characters, and even they felt somewhat shallow. I can't imagine the agony of being, say, a Momo fan.)
Unfortunately when a story does this, it also means that it's inevitably going to disappoint its fanbase. It tossed out 1,000 awesome ideas but it only has space to cultivate a small handful of those into proper plotlines… not only is it sad to see all the unused plot threads peter out, but usually the realized story ends up outright contradicting at least a few very popular fan theories and hopes. This doesn't mean the story's bad, far from it. But in these weekly-chapter stories where fans have years or decades to get attached to their interpretations and predictions, praying each week that yes, it seems like a long shot, but maybe the story will veer off into X… things quickly spiral into enormous bitterness when those decades of hope are finally snuffed out for good. (This same phenomenon makes me dread the eventual end of One Piece…)
MHA had a lot of people going "it's not like other shonen!" because it had lots of promising ideas. But it turned out that… yes, it is just another shonen. Shonen are tons of fun, and I love MHA overall. But man, it got hit hard by those high expectations.
I was a bit harsh (and incorrect) in my post, saying Izuku/All Might haven't changed at ALL, and that quirklessness meant NOTHING. It gets outright confusing when there are characterization backsies like the ones I described. Which is canon: the single panel where a character says "quirklessness is a big deal to me!" or the way that every other character behavior and plot point screams "sure doesn't seem like it"? They're both real. And this discrepancy depends on the reader's interpretation too: I'm extremely picky about characterization, while someone less anal might not see any contradiction at all. So we get All Might fans insisting that the show made quirkless issues into a huge enormous part of the plot/characters, and meanwhile I don't see it, and get annoyed and preachy because it feels like the narrative is being unfairly ascribed depth and profundity that I really wanted but never actually saw from it. How dare!
ANYWAY, I highly recommend checking out the rest of the show. I have a feeling the final arc is going to look amazing in animated form once it's finally done. The final section is a combo of delightfully over-the-top shonen insanity and surprisingly weighty outcomes. We can debate whether it really earned those outcomes, but I'm at least pleased that it tried.

Since they’re leaving I should probably clarify a couple things about ice cream anon because I think I wasn’t clear exactly about what they did
Ice cream anon never sent me junior x carrie fanart, I’m sorry if my words weren’t clear, what they did do is send junior x carrie asks in my inbox. However, if they are who I suspect they are they’ve done a bunch of other really fucked up stuff. I can’t say I know ice cream anon’s identity for sure yk with anon asking being anonymous but I’m 99% confident they’re a certain proshipper in this fandom I’m not too fond of. This person is a Carrie x junior shipper and while they didn’t send me fanart they have sent others uncensored gore and harassed people in a discord server (that had minors in it) they were in to give them money to pay for nsfw commissions. I personally advocated for them to be banned from the TD subreddit and when I explained why the decision to ban them was unanimous- I’m pretty sure this is why they went after me specifically to send their junior x Carrie asks knowing I was on tumblr. I banned them from the disventure camp subreddit (I’m actually the owner of that one) as well when I saw they made a post there yesterday, which I strongly believe is what led them to send in that message about leaving the fandom. I’m not gonna say who this person is because like I said I can’t prove they’re ice cream anon and there’s the rule here about not sending in negative messages about other tumblr users, but that thing they just sent in about how they ship junior x Carrie because of fanart is almost word for word what they sent me and the other td sub mods upon finding out about their ban, and some of their takes on the squeakquel blog were word for word things I’ve heard them say in comments too.

is it bad that i hate with an intensity and block everyone who goes "let the egg event die already 🙄" "kill them all and move on" etc. ?? forever and cellbit were listing their campaign proposals and one of them was new eggs for the inactive players, and suddenly i see a bunch of people on twitter being hateful towards them and laughing about how "they can't let a bunch of pixels go" like ??? i don't understand those kind of people, fandom and ccs alike. i get not being interested in the eggs but purposefully spreading negativity, hating on creators who found companionship with the eggs and fans who also grew attached to them? why? if you don't like it then don't watch. finally something different is being done on a mc series and they just wanna go back to people screaming and killing each other like it's an anarchy server.
yeah i think your opinion is valid
ive always been the type of person to enjoy those types of characters and mobs in games so im very aware of that negative behavior. i was somebody who was invested in the dsmp and loved a little mob named michael and had to constantly see people shit on others for being attached to michael and actively hoping michael would die because thats totally normal behavior. so i get it.
i agree that the egg event is something really brilliant that we haven’t really seen before when it comes to smps or at least to this scale and i’ve grown an appreciation for the entire thing. like the work and dedication quackity must have put in to this entire operation is astounding.
there’s always going to be people with that opinion and mocking attitude. especially on twitter. personally i thought their plan was pretty interesting and even more interesting if it were to be approved by the federation. i think the people hating should allow the cc’s to do what they enjoy. like theres nothing wrong with being attached to pixels. thats how fiction works. you get attached to shit. CRAZY i know.
i am also somebody who leans strongly into curating your own online experience. block anybody who is annoying thats my motto! but also try not to dwell on it too much like when i personally see something that bothers me i block, move on, and try not to think about it. don’t wanna let that negativity take up any of your time. avoid getting into any online arguments or discourse cause i promise you it never matters. why let that stuff cause you frustration when you can instead focus on good things like cool fanart!! and silly clips!!:)

Warrior Nun Update │ January 10th edition
Tumblr media
First of all, last i checked we reached at least 5,5 millions #SaveWarriorNun tweets! With the speed we’re going, we might be real close to 6M by the time i post this. To give yall an idea, i’ve heard that the Manifest fandom, who managed to get their show saved after a cancellation, did 10M in a year? Not sure how true that is, but it is what i heard!
They were also big on signing the petition, which reached 100K signatures. We reached that goal at the end of december, we’re now at 104K last i checked.
We’re also borrowing the Billboards strategy from the Wynonna Earp fandom. A Go Fund Me is still taking donations, the more we are the bigger the billboards will be! For legal reasons, we need fanart for them, so if you’re interested in getting your art out there or know someone who would do great representation, go to the Discord to get the specs!
A lot of people all over the world are getting together with fellow fans that live near them to put up posters to publicise the effort. An Instagram account has been made to share WN things (such as art, memes, stories and more), i think there’s a tiktok account too, so go follow if you’re into that
If Twitter is more your thing, the wonderful team behind the Discord made a little game to get some quotes trending! Each day got its own sentence to get trending along with the general hashtag, like “For all nunkind”, “Just your job?” or “And my pleasure”. That last one was used by Simon himself on a tweet about keeping up the effort to get the show to a new home, so don’t give up hope! They know we’re still there, and they are working on this too. We have some fun ones for the next days, like “Lemon drop”, “Warrior Nun New Home” and “Love you Alba”, cause she deserves all the love.
The admin team is giving a big effort in the general organisation of the fandom this week. They’re looking for artists for the billboards, video editors for publicity, but also for a ton of other skills! They need coders, tiktokers, data analysts, graphic designers, musicians and people that are real good with management. All the info is on the Discord, as usual.
Some good news, to make this less tedious: We won some shits! As i said in a previous post, Warrior Nun won “Show of the year” on the SpoilerTV poll! KTY won the performer of the month for december, and Alba the performer of the month for november. That puts them both in the “Performer of the year” poll! They are up against some really good and popular actors, so be sure to go vote for them both.
For the next weeks, the admin team is putting together more watch parties, fanfiction events, WN themed D&D, trivia nights, all sorts of fun! Not too late to join on the action if you’re not already in the Discord Server!
It is very important to know that tweets and other ways to publicise the show will not get us a renewal. Netflix doesnt care about a bunch of fans tweeting about it. What matters is views. All this is just to get the show noticed, cause Netflix sure as hell didnt spent a dollar on getting the show out there. So be sure to stream it, suggest it to friends, family and colleagues, and always always finish a season! What Netflix pays attention to is if people watch the show, and if they finish both season.
To close this big ass post, i just want to remind everyone that Warrior Nun got cancelled less than a month ago. How incredible it is, that we managed to get all that done in a month. Couldn’t be prouder of us.

Someone asked pinkrelish if the reader in her series was white, cause she rbed a bunch of fan art from different artists that depict reader as white, and someone sent in an ask saying the first anon might have gotten the wrong idea due to the fanart
https://www.tumblr.com/pinkrelish/717773696352288768/miss-mouse-is-white?source=share
https://www.tumblr.com/pinkrelish/717776873301721088/most-of-if-not-all-the-artworkmoodboards-ive?source=share
https://www.tumblr.com/pinkrelish/717787746591244288/prev-anon-here-youve-done-a-great-job-in-keeping?source=share
But then a writer friend of theirs that had previously made a collage/moodboard type thing for them misinterpret the ask, thinking it was attacking the writer as well as the collage they made and kind of went on a rampage to “defend” their friend, made a post about how people need to get off anon and say something to have a conversation. When another poc user tried to reason with them in the comments of their post, saying the asks weren’t attacking anyone (I mean read them for yourself) they kept almost intentionally misinterpreting what they were saying, putting words into their mouth, told them that if they don’t like art/visuals that depict white readers, to simply block the people making them and it won’t be a problem, etc, then blocked them. Then they made a post about how they’re gonna stick up for their friends and “block bullshit” and kept reiterating that moodboards/fic headers/artworks are all usually self-inserts in a way and we can’t blame anyone for the fact that these things are so white washed. So yeah, that’s what happened 💀 the person who got the asks is quite a big writer so that’s prob why you got the asks too.
I almost wasn’t gonna respond to this, but that’s a bystander effect and I refuse to participate in that anymore lol.
Okay, so Pinkrelish is an incredibly talented writer, and I’ve been following along with her works before I even knew they had a tumblr! They have this gymnast!reader fic that I LOVE so much, which I came across on ao3 like last fall. I don’t know her personally, but I do know I have witnessed her reblog and support all the fanart she is sent and tagged in. We of course are aware that fanart is usually the artist self-inserting into the non-descriptive reader insert, which is 100% appropriate! That’s why we write, so whomever our audience is can see themselves in the works!
Obviously, POC have a lot harder of a time getting their art interacted with, but Alyson would support any form of fanart sent her way, it’s an honor as a writer to see people depicting themselves in what we write.
I’m not gonna touch too much on the other writer right now, because I don’t know a lot of the situation nor who it even was and I’m dyeing my hair rn so I can’t look around, but I hope they’ve been made aware this was not an attack and a counter attack was completely unnecessary. I do think it’s disparaging for POCs to voice things that concern them only to be shut down in a matter such as the one you described (because it looks like Pinkrelish responded positively, and in my opinion wonderfully, in terms of acknowledging the struggles of POCs on this hellsite so whatever aggression you said was on display from someone else was actually unneeded).
I will always encourage other people of color to speak up, because on anon or off anon (because I know that anon would have been clearly brutalized had they spoken from their account as implied, and so long as what is being said is mot hate), what you have to say matters. This is a place for conversation and we all need to be a little more open minded.
Alyson loves everyone though, so if you’re a POC and you’ve got some beautiful ass TYP fanart you’ve been afraid to post in this fandom for obvious reasons (and withholding from me), she’s the type of writer who would love to see it :)
(P.s., most writers would love fanart SO POST IT PLS)

Okay, for the several ask games
Writers would you ever:
Would you ever write...
A character you don't know that well?
Fanfiction for someone elses OCs?
Poetry?
The Writers Truth & Dare Ask Game:
🎱, 💌,🧃, 🍄, ❄️, 🎨, 🧩
Ask Game no. 3:
💌, 🔮, , 🧡, 🧸, 🍪, 😏, 🐰, 📷
-Leuchtturm
Would you ever write a character you don’t know that well?
I would definitely try lmao. I have attempted it before. Usually I have to do a bunch of research beforehand if I do try it. The only thing is it usually comes out pretty dull in my opinion. It’s hard to dive into the nuances of a character I don’t know that well
Would you ever write fanfiction for someone else’s OCs?
Technically I have? A large portion of the Undertale community focuses on fanmade AUs and fanon. I’ve written tons of fanfiction for different AUs (that I will probably never post here it’s so bad)
It’s really similar to the last question of ‘yeah I’ll write pretty much any character as long as I can know/learn something about them’
Would you ever write Poetry?
Probably not. I have tried before, it was bad lol
Really it’s just not the style I prefer to write with
Post your AO3 Total Stats
They’re not great but I post very little of what I actually write lol
Tumblr media
How many unread emails do you have right now?
This question is calling me out
930 on my main, 150 on my school, 9 on my fandom acc
It’s so bad
Share some personal lore you’ve never posted about before
Oh crap what have I posted about before
Uh. I’m an Eagle Scout? I was in both Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts for a good chunk of my life
Share a headcanon for one of your favorite ships or pairings
Vil and Idia have anonymous vtubers and they stream together. Idia streams more often since Vil is usually busy, but it’s really the only time they can be openly cute with each other outside of private settings. They usually game but Vil’s released some original music and done a lot of talking streams too
What’s your dream theme/plot for a fic and who would write it best?
Aaaugh this is an interesting question. I really enjoy anything that explores different mythological lore if that wasn’t obvious. I do also really like the idea of crossovers. I can’t think of specific plots but things like the Stoneheart Azul AU and BSD except the Book is a Leitner are both really intriguing ideas to me
Sorry this is so vague I can’t think of anything specific
Link your favorite piece of fanart and explain why you like it
I can’t decide omg. There’s so much good fanart out there I would not be able to choose
I’m going to assume this is asking about stuff I made because there is no way I would be able to choose otherwise
Aventurine Hands I want to chew on this so much the hands are so good and the rendering and lighting is so pretty for no reason
What will make you click away from a fanfiction immediately?
Any sort of fic where it’s like- a pairing having a child together? Whether one of them is pregnant or they’re adopting. I can understand the appeal it is just not for me at all
Do you talk to yourself?
I do sometimes but it’s usually to call myself out when I’m being stupid lol
It doesn’t happen often
What is your dream job?
I would love to be able to do something that allows me to scuba dive professionally. I was considering going into welding for awhile because of that. Underwater welding is such a specialized job that pays a ton. It would also be cool to do research in the ocean too
Buuut there’s also the other part of me that prefers to stay nice and cozy inside with a computer. It’s the safer option that allows me to have a stable life lol
Favorite Extinct Animal?
Probably the Dodo bird. Big friendly guys I love them so much
A color you can’t stand?
I mean I dislike the objectively ugly colors but I don’t think there’s any color I can’t stand. Any color can look good depending on the colors around it imo
Favorite place to nap?
I am so bad at taking naps. It’s really hard for me to fall asleep outside of the usual night time. But I think the place I’ve been able to nap the most is one very specific couch back at my house. Bury me in blankets and put a cat on me and I am out so fast
If you were a cookie what would you be?
The powdered lemon drop cookie at Panera bread methinks
Are you on discord?
Yes I am! Feel free to dm me if you want it lol
What do you think says the most about a person?
Tbh I think this is a hard question. I’m going to base this off of first impressions. Usually the first thing I recognize from someone is their clothes. You can tell a lot about a person from what they wear and how they wear it
What’s set as your phone’s lock screen?
This very specific manga panel of Azul walking

If I’m being honest though……I think we’re all fading away from this day forward as the future comes by, because I know I’ve said this a thousand, millionths or a billion times already and I know I’m tired of this as well but both side of this community are just flawed and corrupted that I don’t even know how I feel about this anymore. The fact that Stan’s are harassing, sending out death threats into them committing suicide and being hateful over a valid criticism while most of the critical side have many points but are overboarding it and instead constantly being angry and overly aggressive to the point where it’s not even healthy for you or anyone else who’s like this. Not to mention for them harassing and bother other people in this fandom who are just having a normal day or what not, and probably the part I’m most pissed off about is the infamous leaking from Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss that ends up spoiling everything from the norm!!!!! Which makes it even more hypocritical and a dick move for anyone who’s actually excited for this project, only to be completely spoiled because of that! Which they complain the marketing of HH for spoiling everything despite being the first one to spoil it in the first place!!!!!! And again, I say this kind of stuff a bunch of times and I know you or anyone else will be tired of hearing something like this and probably would criticize me or yell at me inner frequencies of being a dickhead, I get it! But here’s a thing, people in this community are leaving because of this whole toxic positivity from the Stan side and the toxic negativity from the critical side! And I’m in between it too! Since all I want is just to have ONE NORMAL FUCKING DAY to enjoying the fun factor from these two shows and calmly pointing out its flaws, but seeing how each and every side of this fandom or community “however you call it,” are constantly bashing each other every single day to the point where it just gets repetitive overtime in slight annoyances and uncomfortableness. That’s another thing, since this whole lack of civility just feel it’s just the Civil War 2 all over again!!! Where it’s even difficult for other people, including me, to even acknowledge or understand or even agree too anymore! And I don’t even know who to trust anymore beside many good people that are honest with good souls and respectful to other people opinions with positivity and criticism while being civilized at the same time. I fear the future is only going to get worse and this entire community being more divisive and would either caused a massive war against each other or completely forgotten all at once. Again, I know what you guys would said and don’t even go on to harass me or anything else honest to God in lord and Heaven, I’m……just tired and frustrated that I don’t wanna handled this anymore or even a part of it. So this is truly the last time I’ll ever interact with the critical side as well as the rest since I now only just appreciate amazing fanart, redesign and critique that are justified and I’m still against Vivziepop as well. But everything else…….I’m done.
I know some people believe Vivziepop will have a "downfall," but personally, I believe she'll fall out of the spotlight and fade into the background as more animated Indie shows release.
Helluva Boss' views are declining, Hazbin Hotel's hype quickly died amongst the general audience, less merch is selling, more YouTubers are criticizing the shows, and Vivziepop and her fans are the laughingstocks of Twitter. Many people are growing tired of her, her shows, and her fandom and will move onto better shows that capture their interest.
Yes, Vivziepop will still be around, but the only ones who will still care about her, Hazbin Hotel, Helluva Boss, and her other projects will be diehard fans. She's not going to remain in the spotlight and be popular forever.

What's the story behind your writing pseuds? DW: No story at all except I was on a Shakespeare kick at the time, and someone already had "WinterofDiscontent."
B: I honestly can't remember the exact origin, I think it was back in the days of IIRC and triviachat. I was Ladywest because I'm from western Australia, and then it was Easter so I made it Bunnywest and it just sort of stuck.
DW:That's super cute. I should have made up a super cute story!
How long have you been reading and writing fanfic? B:Ooooh, I wanna say ten years reading? My kid sent me a link to a Stucky fic when I was recovering from surgery, because she knew I'd love it, and also it was T rated so it didn't weird her out too much sharing it. I've been writing since May 2017. There was a really great bit of fanart and I commented that it would be great if there was a story and they said "you could write it," and at first I was "Haha, no," but then the idea wormed into my brain.
I legitimately thought I'd write this 400 word thing and be done, and then people started commenting and asking for more, and I'm a whore for validation. Who knew? So I kept going. And the more I wrote, the more I found my stress levels dropping, and the more fun Peter Hale was to play with. I literally write to empty the brain pan of bullshit. If I go too long without writing now, I have weird stress dreams. And I do so love the endorphin rush of posting at bedtime and waking up to fifty something comments.
DW: I was always aware fanfic was a thing, but Sterek was definitely my gateway drug. In about 2014, a bunch of people I knew on Goodreads started recommending Sterek fanfic, and I was hooked from that moment. In late 2014 a BNF (Big Name Fan) writer wrote a post about how fanfic shouldn't be put on Goodreads, which led to a lot of fic writers demanding GR remove their fics, under the mistaken idea fics were being hosted there, not just linked. And a lot of fans on GR were very upset when their reviews all disappeared without warning. They were also upset to be told that they weren't "real" fans. So I decided to write a Sterek fic for them, which they could talk about on GR and I wouldn't demand it get taken down. I thought that it'd be just that group that would read it, mostly, but suddenly I had an inbox full of comments. So I kept writing more, whenever I had the time between my professional writing projects.
What’s your meet-cute story? DW: I think we'd maybe commented on a few of each other's fics? But then our mutual fandom friend introduced us, and all three of us decided at one point to write a fic together.
B: Our actual meet-cute was Daisy's elephants. Winter posted about her dog's obsession with a particular stuffed toy that she disemboweled on the reg, and lamented that she only had a couple left in her stash. My local reject shop had a shit ton so I sent them to her, and in return she sent me some of her books. We haven't actually met, I think I should point out.
DW: No. We had plans for this month, but... pandemic and closed borders.
Which came first for you: original content writing or fanfic writing? DW: Original writing. I've been writing original characters for as long as I can remember, and I was published first before I posted fanfic anywhere. We wrote our first fanfic collab in September 2019. At some point Bunny said something about how writing a novel was harder, or different, and I bullied her into writing one with me to prove that it wasn't. I mean, it's a bit different, but if you can turn out 50k fanfics in a few weeks, there is nothing stopping you from writing a novel. I eased her in with self publishing, then, in case she thought that was a fluke, with our next series I submitted it to a publisher and it got accepted!
B: Oh fanfic for me. I wanna say we wrote [our first novel] in April 2020 because we both had two weeks off? Winter bullied...lovingly cajoled... me into attempting it just to prove to me I could.
DW: And I was right!
Wow! So this is very much a pandemic collaboration. Because I checked out your self publishing and there was so much, I assumed it must have been over a long time. B: Oh Winter is a machine. She has, I wanna say, fifty odd books? But it’s hard to keep count, only because she keeps releasing more. I have to keep reminding myself that she's the Spiders Georg of writing and three books in a year is perfectly respectable.
DW: Ha! Nah, there are people out there who are writing a lot faster than me!
So I’m absolutely fascinated by the fact the two of you self publish and write fanfic at the same time. I think there is this assumption in writing that fanfic is a nice little stepping stone and then one day you’ll become A Writer. And when you’re A Writer you will have no need for writing fanfiction. B: There absolutely is that assumption that 'real writers' graduate from fanfic. Winter did it backwards because she's just Like That.
DW: For me, fanfic takes the pressure off. I have work writing, and I have fun writing. Fanfic is fun writing, and I reward myself with it when I've got the work writing out of the way. After wrangling characters and plotlines all day, it's fun to go back to fanfic and just let it go in any crazy direction it wants--my fanfics have the tendency to do that!
Also, with fanfic I can write and post a chapter in a day, and tomorrow there will be a bunch of excited comments, which gives me the motivation to jump back in. With original writing, I don't get that immediate and enthusiastic feedback, so sometimes it feels like a lot more of a slog. I'm sure I could write twice as fast if I had a cheer squad for my original writing! So, I'm always going to need fanfic, I think. Not as a stepping stone, but as a fun place to play.
B: This. Case in point: we have two completed books right now that won't be published till the middle of next year, which is a LONG time to wait for validation for that one joke you're really proud of. But fanfic? Write today, post today, feedback immediately!
How has the fanfic community fueled your writing? DW: It's the enthusiasm. It's an incredible feeling when people leave comments about how excited they are to see where this story is going, or where they think it might be. And sometimes reading the comments section just makes me laugh, because I might be in the middle of a fairly shitty day, but a keysmash comment with a flailing Kermit gif? I love making people happy with my fics, or even making them yell at me because of an evil cliffhanger. That enthusiasm is wonderful, and always gives me a push.
B: The rush of getting comments definitely keeps me going-- whether it's the excited flailing for the next chapter with a hundred theories as to what's going to happen, or a simple “IM DED”-- I love it all
DW: Same! It's accountability, too, though not in a formal sense. You want to finish because you don't want to leave anyone hanging!
B: Basically, fanfic is stress relief and original works, while still fun to write, carry slightly more responsibility to turn out, y'know, not shit.
DW: This! Lol!

Hey! This is a bizarre ask but hopefully a welcome one after *gestures at the destruction and fire*. I’m completely new to the Loki/thorki fandom, having essentially come in via the exit door by watching the Loki tv series first. I was honestly just watching it for junk value to have something in the background while I knit. However, when I realized that I didn’t understand anything by the middle of Ep. 1, I went back to watch Thor 1 so I could get what was going on. And HOLY SHIT I was utterly captivated by Loki’s character in the original movie, as well as by the Loki-Thor and Odin family dynamics. I’ve now watched through the films and have been increasingly disappointed by the portrayal of Loki (since Avengers 1 frankly) save a few glimmers of good characterization here and there.
I can’t believe that I’m getting myself into another queer coded (and now more than coded wtf) “villain” with a tragic backstory who’s done dirty by the fandom at large, but here we are! I’m also super into thorki because goddamn… they sure do have a Dynamic™.
So I guess my question is, what is actually good here? I feel like I’ve been trying to fight my way back to Kenneth Branagh!Loki, and have been largely unsuccessful within canon content. Do you have suggestions for a newcomer re: fics, fanart, and meta that actually treats Loki seriously? (and thorki as well?)
Hey! Welcome! Sorry about the mess *gestures at the garbage fire that is the TVA Show The Larry Show The "Loki" Show*
And this isn't a bizarre ask at all. It was really nice to receive actually! And yeah! I'm so glad you went back and watched the originals. The TV Show character is a completely new character played by the same actor who has nothing in common with the original character (who yes is absolutely fascinating and captivating and multilayered). Honestly I just think of the tv character as Larry, Loki's dumb lookalike cousin bc they have nothing in common lol. So glad the show led to you discovering good content...and thorki. And yeah Thor 2011 is amazing! It's so underrated. If you want meta relating to that and also just gushing about the film you can def check out my Thor 2011 tag.
My thorki tag of course has thorki stuff including art etc. I've also got an art tag which has both thorki and non-thorki works. If you want fic recs you can look in my fic rec tag which has a bunch of good stuff both thorki and gen.
Also here are some good thorki fics to start out with that I've really enjoyed. Most are ones I read early on when I just discovered the ship. Also @illwynd has a great thorki blog btw that you should def check out (and also their sideblog @throwbackthorki). Edit: I’ve also added some gen fic recs.
Thorki Fic Recs:
Chaos War by astolat (words: 34,203 | rating: E)
It was never easy to find Loki when he wanted to hide, but he wasn't doing a particularly good job of it at the moment. Probably he didn't think anyone from Asgard would be wasting their time hunting for him while the shining ones churned their way steadily through all the realm.
Loyalty at Any Price by seidrade (words: 22,663 | rating: E )
“This whole time, I’ve been searching the Nine Realms— alone— for answers to questions I barely know how to ask. I thought Heimdall at his watch, our father upon the throne, and most grievously… I thought you lost to me forever.” Thor’s resurgence of anger gives way to something like despair. He can’t tell whether he wants to pummel Loki into one giant bruise, or hold him and weep like a child.
When Thor returns to Asgard and exposes Loki’s deception, his demands for answers and Loki’s reluctance to give them soon bubble over into a cathartic confrontation.
Born to be Kings by Kadorienne (words: 66,618 | rating: T)
When the princes of Asgard made their ill-fated jaunt to Jotunheim, Odin arrived to fetch them before the frost giant grabbed Loki's arm. Odin was able to carry out his plan to make Loki his puppet king of Jotunheim. But how long will Loki remain an obedient puppet?
Yidrigar by epistolic (words: 5,174 | rating: M)
Sometimes I am envious, but never doubt that I love you.
The Heavy Crown by orphan_account (words: 10,024 | Rating: M )
Odin is dead. Loki must take up the mantle of King even as war threatens Asgard, Thor remains bereft of both Mjolnir and his immortality, and stress coupled with the knowledge of his heritage drives Loki to the brink.
No Common Thing by ravenbringslight (words: 8,283 | rating: E)
Loki follows Thor to a brothel and gets the shock of his life.
On the Eagle's Wings by illwynd (words: 2,975 | rating: T )
After Loki falls from the Bifrost, Thor begins to write him letters every day.
How long we were fooled by Ark (words: 28,227 | rating: E )
Loki is not a good man, he knows; there is something rotten in the core of him; and even a much better man might let Thor kiss him, since Thor still tastes of sizzling lightning, like gathering rain, like a desire so fierce and so awful to him that when released it could bring Asgard to its knees.
sunshine by thorvaenn (words: 18,257 | rating: E )
A post Infinity War fluffy piece.
Thor and Loki are among those who are trying to pick up the pieces, but must first fix each other.
Edit: And Some Gen Fic Recs too:
lose my idols to find my voice by Lise (words: 1,548 | rating: T)
This is no homecoming.
monstrare by Lise (words: 1,174 | T )
Loki is Asgard's second prince, brother to Thor, son of Odin and Frigga.
Isn't he?
farewell hope, and with hope farewell fear by Lise (words: 3,113 | rating: T)
Loki and the terrible, horrible, no good, very long delayed reckoning.
Five Times Loki Could Have Been A Villain by Kadorienne (words: 3,344 | rating: G | Character Death)
Five AUs where Loki is not a mere antagonist, but an actual villain.
He would have acted very differently.
When It Sings, When It Lies by dreamsthebirds (words: 14,145 | rating: G)
Thor AU, based on an awesome norsekink prompt for a scenario in which Heimdall doesn't open the Bifrost to Jotunheim, Odin doesn't ride to the rescue, and Loki is forced to take matters into his own hands.
Interdimensional journeys, shattering emotional revelations, and walking trees ensue.
Ichor in Violet by tirsynni (Words: 14,574 | rating: T)
When Thor learns that Loki can travel to other realms without Heimdall seeing, of course he convinces Loki to take them both to Jotunheim to hunt Frost Giants. There an accident unravels centuries of lies and threatens to unravel Loki, too.
The Sinking Feeling of Anticipation by JaggedCliffs (words: 8,624 | rating: G)
When Æsir come of age, they receive a gift from their parents, one meant to aid them in their adult lives. When a prince of Asgard comes of age, their gifts are not just for themselves, but for the realm.
Loki watched Thor receive Mjolnir at his coming of age ceremony – one of the greatest weapons in the realms, for one of its greatest warriors. Now, it's Loki's turn, and he knows Odin will grant him something just as magnificent.
Won't he?
Exsanguination by Lise (words: 8,610 | rating: G)
exsanguination /ex·san·gui·na·tion/ v.intr. To be drained of blood. (And all the rest.)

We hit 400 so here’s a- ✨ DREAM APPRECIATION ESSAY ✨
(by Yours Truly. Much thanks to the one, innocent anon who just wanted to ask a small talk question but hit my serotonin-providing hyperfixation.)
1. Self-esteem
I love the way he’s confident in his abilities when it’s become such a “trend” to either be completely and utterly self-depricating about your own skills out of fear of being labelled an asshole or overconfident nowadays.
At the same time you can still tell he doesn’t want to pull anyone down ever, and will always be really careful with that and take every oppertunity to lift up the people around him. Dream has a very emotional voice that gives him away a lot, so you can really tell he genuinely admires the people around him and he’s never afraid to say that they could totally easily beat him in something if he doesn’t have practice with it.
He tends to be a bit too hard on himself, so his friends always encourage him in his abilities, and that’s just. So nice. He celebrates his victories! He gets so so excited and happy when he wins in the manhunts, and I think celebrating your hard-earned victories isn’t something that should be villanized.
He won, and we should KNOW by now that doesn’t mean he thinks he’s somehow better than everyone. He has a pretty good eye on his abilities, and that allows him to really use them to the max.
2. Morality
He isn’t afraid to change the game! His adhd picks out a Cool New Thing and he just goes, You know what? Why not! His adhd goes “do this thing repeatedly another 3847 times” and he’s like, yeah sure!
Nobody expected him to release a song, but he just went for it! He’s been speedrunning so much, but he isn’t afraid to stream it every day 5 days in a row for hours while his friends bicker in the background.
Dream genuinely does the things he finds fun, but at the same time puts in so much effort to make them good and entertaining to watch and never forgets about his viewers.
He’s kidfriendly because he wants to be! Fame-wise, at this point he could definitly swear more if he wanted to (and he does when in other people’s content who don’t care about swearing), but despite that he doesn’t swear on his main because he wants his content to be accessable for everyone.
Sure, on one hand it could be for clout/money, but consider: Dream doesn’t stream the DSMP because he doesn’t want to take attention away from other people. He participates in the videos of his friends. He lets compilation channels and the like do whatever they want and even monetize his content. He lets his friends stream Road Trip on twitch as much as they want for free.
Dream doesn’t not swear just for his fanbase, but he does it because he has so so much respect for people. No matter how high he goes, he’s always consciously focused on respecting and admiring the people around him.
He has genuine respect for creators so much smaller than him, and he has respect for people in his fanbase that are younger than him. He isn’t afraid to go against the norm and STAND for that, either (see the video where he defends his stans).
And he defends his friends so much too! So much so it could almost be a little bit of a flaw sometimes, but I feel like he truly wants to learn from his mistakes. He apologizes for things even when nobody asked him to, and that just shows that he does it out of genuine guilt and fear of hurting someone.
He’s always seemed like someone who is genuinely willing to change to be a better version of himself, who isn’t afraid to challenge what he thinks and what other people think and what the norm thinks in order to improve everything for everyone.
Dream also doesn’t let any of the fame get to his head! As I said before - he’s confident in the things he’s good at, but in a way that doesn’t pull other people down, and he still remains firmly admirable of other people.
And even when OTHER people let fame get to their head (it was a while ago, but there was a video he made about five block jumps, where he added in a clip of a video of another guy doing it complete with credit and link etc. The guy was 100% alright with it at first, but when his video started getting more views because Dream’s video blew up, he started accusing Dream of “stealing” his content (when dozens of other videos of the 5 block jump already existed, and Dream could’ve just put in a clip of himself doing the jump)),,, but he insisted in his reponse that fame gets to people’s heads sometimes, nobody should blame anybody, he genuinely was never upset at him and just said that this just... happens sometimes.
He’s a very forgiving person all around, in part due to being willing to challenge his own norms and give people the benefit of the doubt JUST in case he’s wrong. He lets people enjoy things so long as they aren’t hurting anybody, like allowing people to ship him w people who are also alright with shipping, but at the same time taking a hard stance on, say, how shipping minors is absolutely wrong and should not be done ever (and he’s right).
3. Fandom
He appreciates said fanart and fanworks as well! He thinks dnf fanart is cool and he even appreciates the fanfic part of his fandom, something many ccs wish to ignore or forget it exists altogether (and it IS ofc in their right to do so or be uncomfortable with such content!), but Dream sees the work put into it and how people find connections and friendships through the fandom and appreciates it all the same.
He loves his fandom. So much. But not in the overdone, fake-feeling way I’ve seen other ccs be,,,, he’s just. Quiet and shy and genuine about it but not afraid to defend it.
He’s said before - and I QUOTE - “If you send hate to people or have sent hate to people, in the form of hateful comments or DMs, you aren’t welcome in my fandom. You’re no fan of mine”, which is the HOTTEST take he’s ever uttered and I love that. He really just went and said that. And he’s right. I like that despite how he’s usually more held back and waits things out before taking a stance, he chose this topic to really take a hard stance on and not budge and stick to it.
Pmbata has also said that he believes his fans have his back no matter what!! And that he really loves them a lot!!! And I am!! Emotional!!!!
4. ND/Adhd
He has adhd which is something I relate to personally (I have it as well sdlkfj). He gets excited sometimes!! I love how he shows being fidgety in mc, always pacing and parcouring around,, the way that in manhunts you can SEE when he’s thinking or bouncing back and forth between two options,,, or the way he gets close to people in mc to laugh with them.... He shows so much with his movements by them being quick and daring and calculated (and it’s especially hilarious to watch other people react to it in the video “mc but three people control one player”, where he’s the one moving and Sapnap and George will gasp or go “Dream!!” in surprise when Dream was THIS close to falling off a ledge, but he just laughs sdlkfjsdf).
When he’s not moving around he stands perfectly, perfectly still (which, idk if thats what all adhd ppl have, but I know I have something similar? Like when I’m nervous I’ll sometimes just. Freeze in place. No movement at all). He’s just relatable sdkjf.
There was one Manhunt extra scenes where he,,,,, stims by clapping,,,,,, the lil excited clap in the background,,, I’m gonna cry. I’m so soft for excited Dream that one is such a comfort clip for me!
He also tends to stim by getting under trap doors and then jumping back out of them, or jumping up a block and then walking back down over and over (especially noticable in The Village Went Mad tftsmp episode, where they were all discussing who the murderer could be and he was the only one moving, hopping up the log and then running back down again).
Also it is. Really Soft when he starts rambling and overexplaining something. What’s even better is that George, who is usually present at such moments, will laugh a little at his antics, and Dream will automatically laugh with him.
5. Rp/Uplifting other ccs
Dream wasn’t all THAT into the rp at first, but his server has been so strongly supporting and giving attention to smaller creators that he’s since completely rolled along with it. Being a villain in the RP is a difficult role because you will, inevitable, as much as it is just roleplay and all scripted, always get some amount of dislike from people for it.
Despite that, he’s basicly the main big villain on his own server where he let a bunch of theater kids beat him up in character and imprison him on his OWN SERVER. He wasn’t as into the rp at first, but has obviously been practicing and joins every Tales of the SMP when he can, despite getting zero clout for it.
What Dream also tends to do is find small content creators, see their talent and lift them high. His entire discord server is dedicated to give smaller ccs a place to grow, and when he first found Tubbo, Tommy, Ranboo, etc., they were much much smaller than they are now. He truly wanted to help them make it big.
He’s also added Foolish Shark and Hannah onto the SMP, both much smaller ccs (not tiny, but you get what I mean), allowing them to grow. He doesn’t stream on his OWN SERVER. He let himself get imprisoned to let the good guys win on his OWN. SERVER. He’s willing to play the villain and everything.
An interesting thing though! A lot of people used to/still do clown on Dream a bit for his sometimes uncertain acting,,, but when he’s around people he knows well (Sapnap and George, Tubbo and Tommy) we’ve seen him go ALL OUT. I have the theory Dream might be genuinely afraid to accidentally be mean to someone in character and have them misinterpret it sldkfjsdf,,, so he’s rly careful when he goes into the rp, and sometimes even when he’s in it he goes quiet, especially with other people around.
But also the fact that he needs time to feel comfortable around ppl is,, a mood,,, and adorable,,, sdlfkjsdf-
Apparently he’s also shared his youtube algorithm secrets with Tommy?? Which he had only shared with Sapnap and George before?? Dream took one look at that chaotic kid and immedietly adopted him as his little brother. He literally got up super early to rp the prison visit. Idk about ya’ll but I would die for someone first and get up horribly early for them second-
6. Friends!!
Dream?? Considers so so many people his friends?? And despite having so many friends, he also has his few closest friends (George and Sapnap) whom he would absolutely die for in a heartbeat. He WILL defend them with everything he has and loves them so so much.
He listens to them and really, truly wants them to succeed. He respects them so much and will go OFF about how good they actually are and how talented they are and how important they are to him.
I can’t even COVER everything about how much he is SOULMATES with Gorg. They live in each others heads rent-free. He mentions him all the time. They get!! So happy when they’re around each other!!! Their voices get so soft,,
And I can’t even BEGIN to explain the energy of Sapnap and Dream just moving together permanently. Imagine moving together with your best friend. Like, permanently. Into one house. They’re best friends Your Honor,,,,
Also,, remember the Techno and Dream rivalry? And Dream has recently said that he’s hesitant to make a serious manhunt against Techno because he doesn’t want there to be any feud between them or have them be compared to each other. He said that while he absolutely wanted nothing more than to beat Techno at first, now that he knows him better he just wants to be friends with him. He wants to be FRIENDS. With his, essentially, mc RIVAL. Friendly rival, but still. He doesn’t even wanna fight Techno or have ppl compare them cause he,,, wants to be friends with him,,,,
7. Vulnerability
What I feel like really sets Dream apart from some other ccs for me is that he’s willing to be vulnerable. He will tell George he loves him. He defends his friends. He sounds so, so genuine when he tells his fandom that he loves them.
What’s just really rare to see, especially in male ccs, is that vulnerability. It’s becoming more acceptable as time goes on, but it’s certainly not easy, and a lot of people become and stay long-term fans BECAUSE they can see how genuine he is.
I know Dream looks up to Mr. Beast a lot, for example, but honestly? I think he’s a little better than Mr. Beast. Because he feels more genuine, more bound to what he believes is right. I’m sure Mr. Beast isn’t a bad content creator! But ultimately they have different target audiences and I’m very glad Dream is the way he is.
Less of that insecure masculinity and more willing to be vulnerable, to care about things, to get emotional and to encourage and uplift the people around him.
8. Pure Brainrot
Green boi has nice deep calm soothing voice. Little shy laugh. Wheeze laugh. Gorg live in his head rent-free. He lov friends. He lov block game. He good at block game,,, a little shy but confident,,, big heart,,,, soft voice,,,,, rambles sometimes....
He also Gender. He’s so gender. I don’t know how else to describe it. I want That. Whatever That is. My gender is Dreamwastaken

Note
New anon, but I saw the last one and I have some thoughts. Specifically, I have been obsessing over ml for the last month or so, and I’ve only seen three episodes, and they were the three released before crocoduel. And you know what? I wasn’t that into it, it wasn’t bad it just wasn’t half as engaging as fanon and fanworks have been for me.
I’ve also done this with the Magicians, Supernatural, and a couple others. I think the reason that this works, for some people, is because it is a more familiar and in many ways, easier way to discover and become attached to new material and new characters. Fan writers and artists are coming from a place of love for their source material (no matter what issues they may have with it) and that bleeds out into their work. Time is spent developing the characters and their feelings, their relationships, in ways that canon so often can’t or isn’t allowed to, and reading that, it’s very easy to fall in love with new characters very quickly. There’s also common AUs and dynamics that make it much easier to start something new.
And also: comfort characters. So many fans find common ground with characters and further project onto them, particularly in fanfic. And because of that it’s often easier to identify with a fan’s interpretation of a character than it is to identify with the canon’s, since you have these more deeply explored feelings and relationships based on a combination of canon and the personal experiences of the fan writer. Also, with these kinds of fics it’s extremely emotionally affirming since for someone who doesn’t have much of any connection with the source material, it feels like the original, even if you’re reading a large body of work by a lot of different people. And I’m so used to fanfic as a substitute for the emotional work and character development that shows/movies/books don’t have room for or aren’t willing to get into, that approaching a fandom as it’s own original piece of media in a way, feels very comforting.
That’s my perspective on it anyways, and why I do this. I do think it is a good thing to engage with the canon to an extent, even if it’s just watching a few clips (how I found ml) but I also don’t think you need any real connection or knowledge of it to be deeply invested in the fandom. Sorry, this got very long.
you know, i totally get being on, like, the fringe of fandoms and interacting with fanon to an extent without a proper investment in canon (I have a couple fandoms like that), but i honestly just can't imagine becoming super invested in a fandom when I am not invested in the source material...maybe that's just a difference between you and me, idk.
but also, i gotta admit that i'm struggling a bit to understand the reason. you yourself pointed out that fan work is enjoyable because the creator's love for canon bleeds into it. and isn't that the reason that you would want to give canon a real chance? obviously there is fan content made out of spite lol (and sadly a fair amount in this fandom), but to me most fan content is like a love letter to canon. like, "i adore this thing so much that it inspired me to create and share with other people who adore it." and what better recommendation is there than that?? i would think people would wanna familiarize themselves with canon in order to better enjoy fanon(?)
i completely understand your point about fan content delving further into characterization and relationships where canon hasn't/can't, and that is such a big appeal of fanfic/fanart. but i don't feel like that's a reason to not engage with canon? on the contrary, i feel like you are missing something important in your understanding and appreciation of that wonderful exploration if you haven't experienced firsthand the foundation that canon set. and maybe that missing thing is just your personal interpretation of a character/dynamic.
for example, i could say, "adrien agreste is this, this, and this and he would do this but not this." and of course i will think im right because my characterization is always perfect 😌sakjdfaldjks but someone else might have a slightly different interpretation, and someone else will have another interpretation, and when you mush all those individual takes on a character together, you will get a good sense of who they are, but you still don't have the Original™️ to draw your own interpretation from. idk, to me it sounds like basing your opinion of chocolate ice cream on what other people are saying about it without ever trying it yourself? ajsldakljf maybe that's an oversimplification but i do think that without experiencing it for yourself, your understanding will always be kind of incomplete.
idk, i big agree with everything you said about why fan content is special, but everything that is a point in fanon's favor is not a knock on canon. to me fan content feels pretty inseparable from canon, so it just doesn't compute to me to take canon out of the equation? then we would have nothing.
i feel like it's almost kinda trendy nowadays to be like, "oh this show actually sucks lmao but the fanon and AUs are good." like it's shameful to actually...enjoy source material? 😭 i mean i completely understand that miraculous ladybug is not gonna be everyone's cup of tea and that's fine! but if you truly enjoy the fan content that much i encourage you to give canon a real shot. it's not that surprising to me that you watched 3 recent episodes and didn't vibe that much, since you haven't seen the 3 seasons of buildup that lead to them. miraculous has a neat way of tying a bunch of things together so if you aren't familiar with all of it, you're probably missing out.
personally my love for miraculous was kind of a slowburn at first. i only started watching the show because my sister and i made a deal that forced me to watch the first few eps lol. and i didn't really vibe either. but there must have been enough of a spark there for me to keep watching bc for some reason i did and the more i watched the more i fell in love with it until it became the thing that occupies my brain more than anything else. i started with canon and then got into fanon, but it could easily go the other way too. and if you're already invested in the story and characters, i have to imagine it would be much easier to push past the initial cringe of "this is a show about a couple of teen furries rated TV-Y7 on netflix" lol and give anything you don't vibe with the benefit of the doubt.
again, to be clear, i'm not trying to judge or gatekeep here! i'm just saying this because i genuinely LOVE miraculous. it's my favorite show. that's why i make things for it. that's why i have this blog. i want people to watch it. so maybe, pwetty pwease, try watching the show you like so much? 🥺👉👈

since i’m coming back i also feel obliged to make an informal update post; not for anyone in particular, just as a sort of digital diary entry. ramble about the past 2+ years and what i wanna do now under the readmore
i know in retrospect, 2 years or so is not a long time at all, but it still Feels like forever ago since i attempted to be active on tumblr, mostly because of how different my interests and priorities are now. so i still think it warrants a word dump
in the past 2+ years since i’ve last been active on tumblr, i’ve let new things come along and alter my brain chemistry. 2 years ago, i was really into posting oso-san fanart, but i’m no longer interested in participating in that fandom (or what’s left of it), so i’m letting myself move on to other stuff. i was also into posting ocs, but my investment in that has died quite a bit. it’s now an interest i’d prefer to indulge privately, if at all. i was also into warrior cats, but again, that interest died down and i want to focus on other stuff. i think the only things about my activity that won’t change is posting cringe and reblogging random shit i find funny
as for what i’m currently invested in, i’m mostly into identity v now, and will most probably be an idv-centric blog. but i do still want this blog to include some general interests and personal posts as well. i’m too lazy to maintain a bunch of sideblogs. another way i’ve changed is, i haven’t discovered i’m fictionkin (that discovery was a longer time ago), but its prominence in my life grew substantially, to a point i can’t hide it without feeling suffocated. so i’m gonna use this blog as an outlet for that part of myself as well. when i was first getting into idv i never thought itd put me in the blender this bad but here i am... look how i turned out... anyway i’m also into genshin impact now, and idk how much of that i’ll post or reblog, but it rots my brain so i won’t eliminate the possibility. i can’t think of any other interests prominent enough that it’d be safe to guess it’d be a focus of this blog... i think i’ll just let my impulses guide me amen. okay fr though i’m a hodgepodge of random interests and whims so my friends and anyone who decides to follow this page are just gonna have to deal with that
as for how i’ve changed as a person, um.. scratches head... i’ve changed a lot, but not at all. my art improved a lot, i think. i’ve gone through lots of fictionkin-related self discovery and introspection that put me in the blender, and also my gender has done more cartwheels than i can count. i’ve grown up a little bit (as much as one can do when aging from 17-20 LMAO) and had many experiences, good and bad. going forward, i hope to get out of my shell more and feel free to interact with people. i also hope to become more comfortable existing online in general, and let go of the extreme lurker impulse. i discovered a lot of very skilled artists on twitter, as well as discovered very cool communities! i want in on that, and hopefully one day i can shake off the shyness
ok thats it i think... o7
