not to be controversial bc I know this is like…not in line with shifting opinions on fanfic comment culture but if there’s a glaring typo in my work I will NOT be offended by pointing it out. if ao3 fucks up the formatting…I will also not be offended by having this pointed out…

‘looking forward to the next update’ and ‘I hope you update soon!’ are different vibes than a demand, and should be read in good faith because a reader is finding their way to tell you how much they love it. I will not be mad at this.

‘I don’t usually like this ship but this fic made me feel something’ is also incredibly high praise. I’m not going to get mad at this.

even ‘I love this fic but I’m curious about why you made [x] choice’ is just another way a reader is engaging in and putting thought into your work.

I just feel like a lot of authors take any comment that’s not perfectly articulated glowing praise in the exact manner they’re hoping to receive it in bad faith.

fic engagement has been dropping across the board over the last several years, and yes it’s frustrating but it isn’t as though I can’t see how it happens. comment anxiety can be a real thing. the last thing anyone wants to do is offend an author they love, and that means sometimes people default to silence.

idk where I’m going with this I guess aside from saying unless a comment is outright attacking me I’m never going to get mad at it, and I think a lot of authors should feel the same way. ESPECIALLY TYPOS PLZ GOD POINT OUT MY TYPOS.

Play toys can mean anything from running around in a field together to making elaborate littlest pet shop rp scenarios to playing Minecraft to learning yoyo tricks together to having an elaborate fancy tea party to doing bob Ross paintings together to hardcore bdsm sex. And you can do any of them with your friends if they have time and want to play toys with you btw

I’m actually LOVING how Rick Riordan, and the other writers of the show, took his initial concept of a Percabeth rivalry fueled by that of their parents and kind of turned it on its head?

Now, instead of Annabeth being wary of Percy because he’s a son of Poseidon, he’s wary of her because she made a callous impression on him. They get off to a rocky start even before finding out who Percy’s father is, and when they finally do, Annabeth doesn’t care. Instead of them fighting because of who their parents are, they’re fighting over their own opposed worldviews.

Then, instead of them arguing over which of the gods is cooler and who was right in the story of Medusa, they realize that, just like Medusa, Annabeth is a victim of her mother and that, unlike Medusa, she is a far kinder and stronger person, unwilling to repeat the cycle of hurt. They realize that, like his father, Percy often acts without considering potential consequences and that, unlike his father, he is a far kinder and stronger person, willing to step up for someone he wronged and whom he cares about.

Instead of Percy and Annabeth’s rivalry being focused on that of their parents, it’s focused on who they are, themselves. But the path to friendship is still the same: a realization that they have each other’s backs, no matter what, because they’re not their parents after all.

I’m actually thankful for Umbrella Academy season 4 because it was SO bad that previously dormant fan fic writers are so enraged and disgusted with the ending that they’re coming out of hibernation and starting to write fics again.

OKAY HEAR ME OUT! kissing simon before a mission and leaving lipstick stains on his mask. pulling him by his collar and peppering kisses all over even tho he kissed you good and hard before he put his mask on just moments ago. you decide not to tell him and he has no idea why his men are giggling like school girls at him. when he finally cracks, “what’s so bloody funny?” and soap tells him, he closes his eyes in irritation. but he’s not really annoyed. not truly. he loves knowing you purposely didn’t tell him that you left little kiss stains on his mask. loves that you can be a bit of a brat. loves that now, when he gets back, he gets to punish you <3

they could have picked literally anything else to be the point of contention between that father and son but no, they intentionally chose to use going against traditional ideals of masculinity and what it means to be a man to be the thing that starts getting eddie to do some self reflection on his own roles as both a father and a son
