The manga industry, especially JUMP, needs to hurry up and do away with weekly scheduling for mangaka. There needs to better regulations put into place for their health and safety because this is pitiful. Two weeks - monthly updates should’ve already been the standard for the manga industry at this point. These money grabbers will only continue to put the lives of these artists at stake for the sake of capitalism unless some serious changes are implemented.

A/N: Oh my god I’m so nervous! This is my first Star Wars fic ever and I really hope it’s good! This is written for @toomanybandstocare for the 2024 Life Day fic gift exchange. I hope you like it!

I included your prompts (bolded in the fic) and kept it sfw. There is a kiss at the end, but it’s fluffy so I hope it’s still okay

It was such a stupid thing, but here you were. Pacing outside a medbay, watching the snow fall through the window. What a way to spend Life Day.

Rex was currently being cared for. The medic had told you the exact procedure, but you hadn’t really been listening. Too busy watching them usher the still body of your friend away.

It was all your fault, really. You’d been the one to insist on the decorations and the cookies and the presents. With all you were doing, it was only a matter of time before one of you got hurt.

And it had to be Rex. Your friend. Your… friend. That’s all you were. Friends. Just two friends with no feelings whatsoever between them.

With a sigh, you take a seat to gaze out the window. It had scared you to death. Watching him slip and fall. The normally so stable Rex flounder back, hitting the floor with a sickening crack.

You’d panicked at the sight of blood, rushing to call the nearest medbay to warn them of your arrival. You were lucky there were still workers there, even so late into the night.

He’d lost consciousness just before arriving. The terror that had gripped you when his eyes fluttered shut had been like nothing you’d experienced before.

The snow dusts the ground. Turning the silvery ground into a blanket of white. You didn’t know the planet well. The snow had been a surprise to you both. You’d been planning on racing out into it; heading to some abandoned park to make snow creatures.

Your family had taken well to the Life Day traditions. You’d lived so many places as a child. Picking up small holiday traditions wherever you went. You’d been so excited to introduce Rex to them. To give him a taste of joy and celebration outside of a mission.

A small cough pulls you from your thoughts. You look up. One of the nurses is there, giving you a light smile. “He’s ready to see you.”

You follow her deeper into the building. To a little room, marked by a holo of his name. You push open the door, pausing at the sight.

Rex sits on a medbay bed, grumbling softly to himself. He looks fine, except for the bacta packs plastered to his head.

Still, you move forward. He looks up, his scowl changing to a soft look. You press your forehead to his, closing your eyes. He’s done this so many times for you; now it’s your turn to give him this instead.

“Hey,” he murmurs, gently catching your hands in his.

“I thought I lost you,” you whisper. “I thought you weren't going to make it. I thought you left me by myself.”

He stiffens and then softens. “I wouldn’t have left you. Not like this.”

You open your eyes, meeting his steady gaze. “I don't know if I could have forgiven you if you had.”

The moment is serious. Heavy and painful in so many ways. A few sentences from Rex lifts all that off your shoulders. “I doubt I would’ve forgiven myself. Going out from just a fall? My brothers would never let me live that down.”

You crack a smile, unable to hold back a laugh. “I love you.”

It slips out. So easily. So… right. But you freeze, instantly worried it’s too much.

Rex blinks. He seems to process your words for a moment before nodding. A slow grin spreading across his face. “You love me, huh?”

Your face warms. You look away. “Stop that. You know what I meant.”

“I think you meant exactly what you said.” Despite the teasing in his tone, you can see the light insecurity in his eyes.

It makes you soften. You give his hand a squeeze, taking a breath for courage. “Yeah. I did.”

“I… I love you too.” His voice is quiet, gentle with things said and unsaid.

You lean your forehead against his again. Just basking in the warmth of his words. He loves you. And you love him.

The nurse discharges Rex without any problems. You’re walking out when you notice the little plant bundle hanging from the ceiling in a corner of the lobby. You grin, knowing just how you’re gonna salvage this Life Day.

“Come here.” You tug Rex after you, hand held firmly in his. He follows, letting you lead him right where you want him.

“What are you planning, cyare?” He asks, giving you a merry but suspicious look.

“Look up.”

He does, eyes stopping on the small bundle of leaves and berries. Your grin widens.

“That’s called mistletoe,” you explain. “It’s good luck for couples to kiss under it.”

He’s still for a moment before looking at you. With that oh so soft look in his eyes. “Good luck?”

You nod and take a deep breath. Then you lean in, pressing a soft kiss to his lips. He responds immediately, relaxing into the moment.

When you pull away, both your cheeks are flushed.

Rex’s eyes twinkle, his entire demeanor gentle with affection. “Are we a couple then? Wouldn’t want to give us bad luck and all.”

You snort, giving him a fond look. “Smooth. Real smooth.”

He just chuckles and pulls you into a hug. “I learned from the best.”

As you rest your head against him, you relax. Letting your thoughts drift to one thing.

Despite all that went on, you wouldn’t want to spend your Life Day with anyone else. Rex is perfect for you, clumsy falls included.

Hello! I really like your analysis on Kaveh & Alhaitham as characters (and adore how you write them too). So it got me thinking, is there any type of character interaction between Alhaitham and Kaveh that hasn't happened yet or explored that you woukd like to see? Or, if you are willing to answer this, what other character would you like to see bounce of of Alhaitham and/or Kaveh individually? Like I always thought Faruzan or Collei interacting with Alhaitham directly could be an interesting insight to his character and perspective.

This is a really interesting question!! In terms of Alhaitham and Kaveh’s character progression in future Sumeru events I’m curious to see where their reconciliation is headed and whether we’ll get to see any glimpses into their relationship. Cyno’s story quest 2 showed that Alhaitham and Kaveh had progressed since the events of a parade of providence and it seems that there is an understanding between them now, in that their communication has improved significantly and Kaveh is no longer misinterpreting Alhaitham, but since this story quest didn’t focus on their relationship (which made sense considering it was Cyno focussed and had a story to tell outside of haikaveh) I think deliberate questions are posed that can be explored in the future

Personally I’m curious whether certain things will be addressed in the game: will the two work together again like they did in cyno’s story quest? will alhaitham and kaveh’s improved relationship be commented upon? If it is, will a parade of providence by explicitly mentioned? And will kaveh and alhaitham’s philosophy be discussed in relation to if they’ve changed/reached a compromise? To what extent will their improved relationship be shown to the player? will the subject of rent be brought up? will kaveh discuss his mother again? — there are a lot of open ended details from kaveh’s hangout and a parade of providence so i would love to see some expansion on these types of things!!

as for character interactions i would love to see, i fully agree with you!! I think a faruzan and alhaitham and a collei and alhaitham interaction is long overdue!! faruzan and alhaitham are both from haravatat so i would be interested in how their respective views correlate/disagree, and also just their general dialogue, with faruzan calling herself everyone’s senior i’d love to see how this goes down with alhaitham lmaoooo also alhaitham and collei need to have an interaction considering that he showed up to tighnari’s gathering in kaveh’s hangout just to help out in structuring collei’s studies, i’m interested in what he would personally say to collei and how collei would interpret it!

Other interactions would be more nilou and kaveh, i feel they would get along spectacularly!! And also wanderer interaction with alhaitham or kaveh, but especially kaveh, because,,, comedy gold i think. Also kaveh with dehya and candace!! Basically i want everyone in sumeru to have a one on one interaction it seems hehehe

It’s worth revisiting what we mean when we say we trust a showrunner. I’d rather we didn’t say it at all. We don’t actually know them, and they’re just human. They’re going to make writing decisions we find shortsighted or painful or less creatively effective than an entire fandom’s collective output. They're in the writing trenches; they don't get to analyze everything to the depth we do.

But if we do say we trust them, let’s stop meaning that we trust the story to mean the same thing to them that it does to us. We tend to love one character or another most; they tend to love the story as a whole. Let’s find writers we trust to do justice to the story they’re telling for their own sakes. Each of us brings our past and our inner selves to the stories; so do they. For OFMD, Jenkins has said he’s writing a story about masculinity, and the ways we’ve got it wrong.

Even Ed and Stede and their love are secondary to that — that’s why they have to split up repeatedly; they have to heal and reorient their own sense of themselves and their community and their masculinity even more than they need to love each other. And in Jenkins’ narrative Izzy (and Hornigold, and CJ, and Ed’s dad) stands in for the real-world men who keep pushing their sons and friends and students and partners back toward a masculinity that hurts them deeply. Jenkins is showing how they do it without even understanding why it hurts or how it could be different.

And Stede got his blessing from Mary, but Ed never got an apology, or a blessing, or any understanding from the rest; so Jenkins had Izzy stay around long enough and gain enough depth to understand how to see him, to give Ed his blessing. That was part of the story Jenkins needed to tell — the moment someone formative who hurt you sees what they’ve done and makes it right.

As to what else it could have meant, who else he could have been or was to us — that’s what fandom is for.

hi! just curious if you hc dazai with any specific mental disorders/illnesses? i have read a bunch of your fics and loved them all but cannot remember rn if you have ever labelled or coded him with anything💕

ooh, this is an interesting question!!

unless i’m exploring a specific mental condition, or the condition is a theme in the fic, i generally don’t put too much thought into labels when it comes to Dazai’s mental health 🫶🏻

obviously he does struggle with his mental health, & i have certain headcanons that seem plausible (such as dissociation, depression, possibly SAD). but i usually prefer to explore from the psychology/philosophy/emotional angle of his character :’)

that being said, i recently realized that im neurodivergent, which made me realize that i’ve been unknowingly writing Dazai as neurodivergent all this time (which i def do believe he is) 😭😭

tldr: i guess the only label that i generally use with him is neurodivergent 🥹

am i the only one who feels like alex(the world ender guy) was kind of a missed oportunity in vide noir? like, he was set up by johnnie to be a badass gang leader just for him to never even appear in the end, we just got a close up to his face scar

i feel like buck's encounter with the psychic would've been way more powerful if it was alex instead. its implied that johnnie and moonbeam had a relationship ig, but its barely even hinted at, and he never even mentions her. but with johnnie and alex, johnnie actually mentions him and speaks highly of his brother, and says alex will help buck if he sees the red cloth that belonged to johnnie

the fact that all that build up led to buck not even TALKING to alex kinda irks me. imagine how much better the payoff would be if alex had received the cloth instead of moonbeam? if we had seen his reaction to johnnie's death? if he would've helped buck like johnnie said he would? if we saw what johnnie implied alex would do to the guys who black brained his brother? idk man i think we were robbed

No I gotta agree on that. Like I LOVED seeing Moonbeam and getting know her as her and having all this new information about her (her being part of the World Enders is still wild to me and I love it) and it’s a good scene and all, but I’m still confused as to why they built up Alex so much, especially since this is the first time we’re hearing about him, and he never even got the chance to speak. If it were Dale I’d be a bit more understanding as we know him already (tho not by much cause I would have loved to see more of Dale). But it’s Alex, whose not only the leader of the World Enders but also Johnnie’s (and Dale’s) brother. I would’ve have loved to, you know, actually meet the guy. Especially with how much build up he got. And I GET IT Lord Huron’s lore is meant to be weird and vague and hard to pin down but like. Didn’t need to tease me like that come on

The only reason I could think of was maybe they needed to get Buck on his own again? Like having this the beginning of a war between the World Enders and Z’Oieasu shown or having Buck work with them consistently might have thrown off the tone. It is supposed to be Buck’s story and his own descent into madness. The whole album has this isolated vibe to me, like being alone in a city of people Hard to get that when there’s other people around, especially a group as lively as the world enders. Or maybe they just wanted to include Moonbeam back into the story again lol

GOD I would have loved to see Moonbeam’s scene with Buck done with Alex. I can only imagine how that scene would’ve played out and his reaction to Johnnie’s death. Contrasting Buck’s scene with Johnnie with Alex’s own personality, the possible dynamics, the anger and grief that could arise…..ough
