when I say children are addicted to technology and are losing the ability to socialize and play and imagine, I am Not blaming the children or teenagers. I really think as a society we need to examine our priorities and understand that things have escalated to an astonishing degree in just the last decade (in an appallingly negative direction)

Im young so It’s like. I keep thinking about the things like eating disorders coming back and the same jokey racism from 2013 cycling back and seeing the rise and flows of progressivism in front of my eyes and I wonder how the people before me did it. Like it’s annoying but I have a soft spot for older ppl who assimilated or are grumpy about new terminology or ideas or whatever bc imagine seeing that over and over with the worst and most violent racism imaginable. Thinking maybe the world is coming to some grand conclusion and going to change and then it’s yanked back and ppl are joking about hating you again. And then I think about how much change DID happen how in such relatively short time so many things got better and then I think about how so much of it was convenient timing and circumstances and how hopeless it feels to think it might happen again, especially since it seems like ppl only take extreme violence to the imperial core seriously. Like it’s not my place to be hopeless, I’ve faced a lot but I’m privileged to have a good support system behind me - ppl that will pull me out of racist areas or have taught me enough to navigate social settings I don’t quite understand. I’m in a good position where even though I can’t fight or donate much I have enough to speak, to share, to educate as little as I can, and even sometimes have fun doing it. I know there’s so much more to do and read and learn but it gets so. Idk depressing sometimes? Seeing the same cycles over and over and over. This is my first time really seeing how ppl refuse to connect dots or take knowledge from previous situations moving forward and I can’t imagine how much the authors I read have seen, how they’re begging me to understand through the pages. Not to know everything or be perfect but to think and refuse complacency, I can’t help but think about the authors and minds no longer with us. Being called great and revolutionary in hindsight by the very same people who killed them. Being quoted by the very same people killing the great minds today. It’s so exhausting that sometimes I feel maybe ignorance IS bliss and then I remember that it’s not because I can’t feel any sort of peace or happiness with the people suffering around me. I can’t turn my brain or heart off and sometimes it sucks but most of the time I’m so so glad that I’ll never be able to look at someone suffering or reaching out and turn away. Even if I can’t do much I can do SOMETHING, even if that something is listening to someone with more knowledge and experience and relaying the information to those who started where I did. and that’s enough for the despair to remain at bay for awhile

mike comes back with ibuprofen, a bowl of chicken noodle soup and a heating pad. he knows you so well. “stop don’t sit up let me get you comfortable!” he says clearly worried to death about you. mike lays you back down, uncovering you to hand you the heating pad.

“do you think you can handle some soup baby?” he asks you. “yeah i’ll be fine” you spit out, voice still raspy. it sounds like you’ve been smoking a pack a day since you were 2.

he gets out the tv dinner tray from the living room and brings it into your shared room. you take a sip of your soup and it’s way too hot, but you don’t want mike to be more worried so you play it off, asking for a glass of water.

mike holds your hand as he takes your temperature, still at 100°, coming down from the 102° you were at earlier but still not best.

mike makes you take the ibuprofen, although you say “i don’t need it! i’ll be fine i swear!” your voice shivering through your words. he knows you’re lying. “come on baby, take the medicine and you’ll feel better” he says

about 30 minutes after taking the medicine you start to feel a little better, but you still want mike to take care of you. he can see through you and rolls his eyes playfully, laying beside you in bed.
