#i’m really hoping this series is good

having a lovely time, i was exploring a tag that i haven’t frequented in a while over on AO3 and came across a crossover fic for a book series I know and one that I don’t. The premises clearly taken from the series I’m unfamiliar with fascinated me, so now I have a new series to read and I found that there’s at least 18 books in the series so I’ll have reading material for quite a while so long as it’s good! i’m very excited

i think one of the reasons i enjoy the percy series so much is because it’s an adaptation of the novels and not word for word the same.

at first i was a little upset by all the changes, but after rereading the books, i actually like the series even more now. as much as we all adore the books, i think we can agree that they’re not perfect. sometimes there’s plot holes, inconsistencies, or just bad writing in general. this gives rick a chance to fix those things, and that’s OKAY.

the series isn’t perfect either, don’t get me wrong, but it is nice to see the characters going on the same adventures even with some variation to the original story. i think this will allow the characters to be fleshed out more.

we have to remember that a tv show and a book is not the same medium, so the way these things are presented cannot be identical. otherwise the characters in the show would probably seem pretty flat since the books are only from percy’s perspective. the series allows us to learn more about the motives and personalities of other characters, be it annabeth, grover, or luke (personally, i’m really excited to see how his character’s story goes).

anyway, all of this is to say that the percy series is great for what it is (an adaptation of a book series). yes it could be better (cough longer and more episodes cough), but i personally really enjoy it so far.

dff this week fell so flat for a lot of reasons, but one of the big ones for me, was the reveals.

i’ve been itching to see the truth come out for weeks, and finally it has, but… no one really cared. and i think a big part of that was who was doing the revealing.

we can skip past the pheejin reveals because i’m frustrated with both of them - their scene really was not the catharsis i wanted it to be. additionally, the majority of the episode was exposition, which is never really a fun time. especially when the emotional punch feels so far removed.

but the reveal that tan is new being taken out of his own hands by phee and jin? a waste of anticipation. top never revealing that he was the one who broke the camera? incredibly dissatisfying. and whilst tee’s reveal was emotional and suitably guilt ridden, there are no consequences to it (except probably his relationship with white).

there were so many other ways they could have spun this episode and the effects that it had on the friends, but they really dropped the ball. it’s the first time i’ve been disappointed in the writing of this show since the beginning, and i really hope they pick it up for the final two episodes.

Whenever I get to a certain point in a series, even when it’s no longer enjoyable or just pisses me off after something that happened, if I’m far enough into the series I’ll just continue reading. Like I’m too far into this to just drop it. Best example of me doing this is with the fairy tail manga. Everything after Natsu when into E.N.D form it just went completely downhill. Fairy tail isn’t the best shonen in the world but it was still very enjoyable. I was so disappointed with how that plot was handled that if I wasn’t so far deep into the series I might have dropped it. I just stuck it out to the end and hated the ending.

Honestly from a writing perspective, I think the Pomefiore house has the best character development so far?? I mean this is probably purely due to luck because their house was right around when the books started getting longer, they play a big part in Ignihyde which is almost comically long, and just had an event themed around one of their dorm members but HOLY SHIT. Even if I don’t always agree with Vil I just respect him as a character because of the whole arc he went through, Rook is always fun to be around, and Epel is out here having like MULTIPLE character arcs, which is way more than I expected. It almost makes me wish the other dorms had stories this long so we could see what this would be like for every dorm, but I don’t want to sound like I’m demanding anything from a team that’s already working hard lmao. Idk I’m rambling but anything involving the Pomefiore members is guaranteed to FUCK (I could write whole paragraphs on Vil and Epel alone)

i can’t get over how i’m forever and always proud of my sebastian sdv series,,, like that was genuinely my magnum opus. it was the first little mini series i wrote that i had fun with ,,, when i was writing it i was so full of heartbreak but i was also so happy at the same time and the fact that all of that emotion got channeled into one of my most successful writing pieces makes me OVERJOYED
