Hi! Tysm for the ask! I’m happy to talk about things outside of the trio as well, dw!

I would say definitely Sirius. I’ve always had a soft spot for Sirius.

He’s the parent Harry always wanted. He’s strong and funny and caring and always puts Harry first. Ron & Hermione protect Harry when they can and he is definitely one of their top priorities, but there are things he feels too shameful or stupid about to say to them, and he doesn’t feel like he can expect them to care for him. With Sirius he’s allowed to have that expectation and to confide things in him that he’s not ready to with his friends yet. It’s such an important thing for any kid to have and for Harry, who never had that at all, it means SO MUCH to him.

It really makes his death more devastating than it would be if Sirius was just a cool character that was around sometimes, instead of a presence that you can feel through Harry by virtue of him essentially being his parent.

I don’t hold his irritation in OOTP against him. He and Harry both feel trapped, both are dealing with trauma and loss, and both are dealing with a lot of unresolved issues in general. I think there’s supposed to be a parallel here. It’s hard for me to stomach a grown man escaping prison only to be held prisoner in the house he was raised in surrounded by hate and bigotry (and, I think it’s pretty ambiguous in the text iirc, but potentially experienced / witnessed abuse).

In general he’s a comforting presence that is relatable and just extremely fun to be around, to watch and talk to and ask questions because you know he will take Harry seriously but still see him as a child. I’m sure he has moments where he thinks of Harry as James but I really do think he mostly sees him as Harry and is a GOOD father figure when he’s not being driven mad through confinement.

This isn’t to say that Sirius isn’t very flawed. All good characters are!

As for the other marauders— I would say Lupin is close 2nd. He’s got a lot of the strengths that Sirius has but his habitual self isolation and just. Leaving Harry. Kinda bring him down for me. It doesn’t make him a bad person— I really relate to the instinct to just remove yourself out of shame— but he’s a less present and less reliable figure in Harry’s life.

James is interesting. I would’ve loved to learn more about him & Lily in the books, but I suppose our limited knowledge is partially the point… I’m not anti-James, but he’s definitely not flawless himself and I think that makes him a better character. As for Lily (shes an honorary marauder I guess, lol) I wish we got more of her like we did James! We’ve seen her, we’ve learned about her, but she seems too… perfect.

Like I mentioned this before but one of my favorite things about the GO fandom is how free and absolutely whatever the fuck and purely utterly tolerant this fandom is about gender???? Like I’m not ashamed (though maybe a little a lot embarrassed) to admit that this fandom was probably most definitely my non-binary awakening because it was just so strange and refreshing and completely new for me to learn this brand new little talked about side of how other people experience gender, and how they channel those experiences into Crowley and Aziraphale in their fanfiction and fanart and headcanons??? It was to a degree that I had NEVER EVER felt before and it shocked me?? Then I found myself weirdly SUPER relating to the descriptions of genderlessness and the pure careless neutral feeling about gender that I saw people talking and writing about???

And then, well, um, I MAY have accidentally discovered my gender identity from Aziraphale headcanons??????? Oops??????????

And Ive heard of plenty of other people who saw their own gender expressions reflected in Crowley or Beelzebub or Muriel!!!! ITS CRAZY!!! I’ve been in fandoms for years and years, but this is the first time characters have felt so freeing and moldable to however the fandom wants to love them and so so easy to love because we see parts of ourselves in them and parts we aspire to be and parts we hate but can’t help see the reasoning behind and it just makes everything feel so…..close???? Like these characters were made to be the furthest from basic stock characters they could, and they were made with a little extra room left over in them for the fandom to take and fill and make their own?????

I don’t even know where I’m going with this but I guess my point is: Dear Good Omens fandom, I FREAKING LOVE YOU??????? The pure and open freedom you allow people to express themselves and mold this story and these characters into a million different wonderful things is the most awe inspiring thing, and I never thought such a massive fandom would feel so welcoming and tolerant and flexible and fluid and expressive and diverse and AGGGHGAHAHGHH EVERYTHING I GUESS

God I really hope no one reads this cause this is probably the gayest shit I’ve ever written. I just wanted to celebrate but then it turned into a rant of the secret private super duper uber gay reason I love this fandom.

it was called black. white. and it followed two real american families™ supposedly "swapping races" using hyper-realistic "makeup effects" and then going off to interact with society looking like rdj in tropic thunder and the wayans brothers in white chicks in order to "understand" racism and privilege (i mean presumably that was the point but yikes)

and this was not a show made in the 80's when you might expect some coked up executive to have thought it was a good idea, either. it was in fact made in 2006. and wikipedia is telling me that ice cube was one of the producers??

What blew up online that tori maya shit was stupid as fuck but due to the disorganization and lateness of this campaign there was REAL misinformation being spread especially to our elders by ppl misconstruing info and a large number of ppl genuinely RIGHT NOW believe she’s pro Palestine called for a ceasefire etc. Like that’s a big chunk of the issue happening rn - where ppl literally made up policies for her or suddenly fell for “neutral” talking points bc it’s on someone they like and spread that.
