Bajie, sighing, Just pointed out the destined one, who was holding that small black tablet in his right hand with the nail of his pinky in the small hole at the base of the same object.

"Kid, stop indulge her! Be the rational one here!"

"What can I say?" He said, shrugging his shoulders, "I'm quite curious too about this phone thing."

"Oooh, yes, of course! Cuuurious, he said. Well, if it's turned out to burn at a crisp, do not come cry to me, young lady!"

You just laugh it out; even if it were true, you knew that the old pig was a soft heart for you and would surely comfort you.

"Ok so," you started to explain for the last time, "go really low on the voltage, enough to the cilinder with the green liquid to appear. Once Is full and made a sound, stop!"

"It seems simple; sure, is it going to work?"

"Well, maybe? ... Anyway, it doesn't matter! Just go!"

So, what were you up to this time?

A few days after your arrival, your phone, as you suspected would have happened, had died since the lack of electricity.

Between a deadly danger and another being eaten attempt, your mind completely forgotten about the device's lost usage until, after the fight against Yellowbrow, the idea of using that newfound power struck you.

You weren't sure that it could work; you were prepared to lose forever your phone, to be fair, but a small try never hurt anyone, right?

And fortune favorite, the bold!

After the small sound front the phone, you started to jump in happiness, finally with the last connection of your original world in your hands.

"AH! YES! IT WORK IT WORK! AHAH!"

The other two laughed a little, noticing how your fingers were able to move in the device with knowledge and security.

"All right, all right," said Bajie, sitting next to you when you decided to calm down. "Now, what does this little thing do?"

"Okay! Basically, we use It tò call people, message them...communication in general!"

"Oh so..." Yuán Fèn seemed startled when, after touching one of the apps on the screen, the color changed "is like... a bird or... and Messanger?"

"Well yes? Everything happens in seconds instead of hours or days! Unfortunately, without connection, it's useless for that part."

"Ah! So I was right! "

"Buuuut It can do something more intriguing for you!"

Once you shot the camera, your two friends, after a brief moment of surprise from their own faces showing up inside that small box, seemed more interested than before.

"Is that a mirror?"

"Nope! It's a camera! We use it to make photos!"

"What's a pho-u-toh?"

"Photo! Or photograph!" You laugh after Bajie misspells "it's like a panting, but far more precise. Using light, you can press the image on paper. Now, a phone camera doesn't exactly work like that, but you get the idea."

You stod up and put the device in front of the pigface.

"Now smile! I'll show you!"

After you took the picture, with the image of a still confused Bajie on it, you showed it to him. After a moment of silence, he started to laugh about it.

"You are surely full of surprises!"

"HEY! Is that a baby?!"

"Baby, aren't you that small, you dork!"

"Yes, they are! They smal like your brain!"

Once again, you have to save yourself and your phone from another monkey's fist fight between the children. Now that you had shown them your small magic box, like they like to call it, they were always eager to make one with you or ask you to make one for them, only to laugh about their own faces or what was happening. You even make a few videos of them, which just make them go more crazy than before. 

But then they discovered your other photos.

They seemed to enjoy, especially the ones that you had taken the day you had decided to help your auntie in her school trip at the Zoo. They loved the ones that you had taken at the monkey enclosure; they loved to see that you were familiar with their kind even before the change of world!

Well, they weren't the only ones that enjoyed the device. Once, you decided to show it to the youngest of the spider sisters, showing her the video that you took of her while dancing, and she laughed all the time, enjoying it to see her own performance.

You even took the chance to use it to make ohotos of every place that you and the Destined one were able to visit. Yellow ridge, the snowy fields, the mountains...every place was a new set for one of your photos, and every time he was inside too.

He had never shown quite the interest like everyone, but he seemed still happy to know that you wanted to cherish the memories that you had there with him. But what he really loved were your own memories, the photos of your past, and your family. He loved sharing them with you, knowing you deeper.

"This is your..."

"Cousin. My cousin."

"Oh yes, yes...and this is your cat, right?"

"Sorta, it shows up now and then. I like to leave it some food for it, so it doesn't starve."

"Ah, got it..." then another photo, that you tried to pass fastly, had passed under his eyes of you near someone.

"And that one? The one with the guy?"

"Ah, it was nothing." Your tone seemed almost off, like to avoid the discussion.

"Nothing?" He raised his eyebrows. "I saw you smiling! How was it nothing?"

And soon, you get back on the photo and delete it.

"As I said, nothing."

It seemed that he still needed to know you better.

Can you believe that this show started 5 years ago?

This is an animatic that I made for my TOH AU, Emperor of the Owls. I made it a couple of years ago, and am now finally posting it. I was originally going to animate the last bit of the song, but didn't end up doing that.

Basically, in this AU, Eda and Belos’s curses are switched. Eda is… whatever Belos was, and Belos/Phillip is the Owl Beast. Their characters have been slightly altered in this AU. Belos is a caring uncle, and truly cares about Hunter, but his curse has caused him to hurt Hunter unintentionally, and he carries a fair amount of guilt, because of it. 

By the time that the Day of Unity arrived, he wasn’t sure of what to do. Go back to the Human Realm, leaving the Boiling Isles as one of the monsters he sought to destroy? What would Hunter think, when he realized that his uncle was going to destroy the Boiling Isles?

Eda is referred to as the Beast Queen. Everyone who joined the Emperor’s Coven had their palismen destroyed. Eda would steal them, using them as a means of keeping her curse at bay, though it truly only made it harder to stay in control, the more of them she consumed. When she was younger, Eda went behind her father’s back, stealing some of the palismen that he had carved, after having destroyed and consumed one by accident and realizing that it kept her from transforming. She was then caught, and after a stressful confrontation, she transformed into the beast, hurting her father by accident.

Lilith cursed her sister, turning her into a monster. 

Over the years, Lilith made many attempts to convince Eda to join the Emperor’s Coven. Of course, Eda never did. 

One night, Lilith located Eda yet again, and told her about how she should join the coven, and how the Emperor could heal her curse, etc.

Eda told her sister to get lost, as she didn’t have the time to deal with her. Especially not at that very low point in Eda’s life. She didn’t take her and Raine’s breakup very well, and had no way of hiding the curse that caused a rift between them. The closest thing she could do was hide it using a concealment stone. But she still knew what was lying underneath the illusion; and so did the rest of the Boiling Isles. 

She had to deal with raising King now, as well. Between her internal struggles with her curse, trying to take care of King and hide the curse from him, dealing with her mother trying to heal her curse, and Lilith’s constant attempts at getting her to join the Enperor’s coven, Eda was not in a good place, and her feelings were severely clouding her judgement. 

So, Lilith’s words gave her an idea; she had found someone to blame for her pain.

Lilith always went on about how Belos could heal her curse, and how powerful he was… If he could heal her curse… maybe he was the one who gave it to her. After all, her first transformation happened on the day she fought her sister for a spot in the Emperor’s coven. 

She convinced herself that Belos had wanted to keep her from ever joining his coven; that he had a vision, and saw that she was a threat, and was too powerful, so he gave her this curse to keep her from reaching her true potential.

So she plotted her revenge. She would curse him, and make him feel her pain. However, similarly to King’s dad, the Titan himself, she attacked the wrong person, and dragged him down for nothing.

Not that this version of Belos is entirely innocent.

Belos’s magic was purely artificial; without his staff, all he could do was put on a show and make it look like he had magic of his own. Even his armour could generate artificial magic. But, without all of that, he was nothing more than a human made to look like a witch. Though he had his ways of staying alive for so many years.

Eda snuck into the Emperor’s castle at night, using her curse to get around unseen. After a while of looking, she found the Emperor’s room. She wasn’t known as the most powerful witch and beast on the Boiling Isles for nothing. 

She cursed the Emperor, though she had no idea how long that curse would last for, nor how long he would have to suffer from it.

The next day, Belos sat in his throne room, listening to Kikimora and Lilith going over their reports, and Hunter—who was just a child, who would someday be the next Golden Guard—stood with Belos, as he always did.

All was proceeding as usual, until Belos tried to stand, only to fall to his knees in pain. In moments, he was transformed into a feathered beast. By the time he turned back, and realized what had happened, several Coven scouts had lost their lives, and Kikimora, Lilith, and Hunter were injured. He was horrified by what he had done—his “nephew” was covered in his own blood.

Shortly after that, Hunter ran away, afraid that the Owl Beast would suddenly reappear, and kill him. Eventually, Lilith was able to find him. She managed to take part of Hunter’s wounds, but no amount of magic could undo the damage that had been done.

Belos’s curse became one of the best kept secrets in the Emperor’s Coven, and his armour was altered to accommodate each new, beastly feature as the curse ate away at his human body.

After Eda had been found in Raine’s place (during the season 2 finale) she was taken before Belos. Since she met Luz, Eda had started to regret what she had done—especially when she found out that Lilith was the one who had cursed her, not Belos. What would Luz and King think, when they found out what she had done, and what her reasons were for doing it? And what about Lilith? She had many scars that the Owl Beast had given her.

Having been given a chance to distract the Emperor and to come clean, she admitted that she was the one who cursed him; which made Belos want nothing more than to kill Eda for what she had done. Within moments, he had transformed into the Owl Beast. 

Hunter had learned that the spell that Lilith used to take on part of Eda’s curse was the same one that she used to use on his wounds when he was younger. He had to use it one day, when he couldn’t get Belos to turn back from the Owl Beast, no matter how hard he tried. So now Hunter was cursed as well; and Belos resented Lilith for ever teaching him the spell.

Once he found out that Eda had cursed him; and was the reason why Hunter now also had to suffer from that same curse, Belos nearly killed her.

Riddle Info Compilation part 28: The Rules and Vil

There are 810 rules at Heartslabyul (In Japanese 8 can be pronounced “hah” while 10 can be pronounced “toh”, and in katakana hah + toh = ハート, which means “heart”), and Riddle can recite them all.

He expects even people who are not students at NRC to know “at least a hundred of them. At LEAST.”

Vil tells Riddle that his “glass half-empty approach is basically an advertisement for (his) personal issues”, and we learn Vil may have suspected Riddle’s instability from the start, saying, “That boy is a disaster waiting to happen” in a flashback with a 1st-year Riddle.

In the same flashback we also see Vil giving Riddle advice on wearing high heels and gifting him with a bandaid for a blistered foot.

Riddle says that the very night he received the bandage from Vil he ordered a manual on proper walking technique and he considers it a “win” that he was able to show Vil that he is capable of dancing in heels, as, “one can’t let a poor impression go uncorrected indefinitely.”

Vil responds, “And here I thought you’d mellowed out considerably since those days. I suppose some things never change.”

We learn from Vil that housewardens are permitted to adjust their dorm uniforms as they see fit, and that previous Heartslabyul housewardens would wear sneakers like the rest of the dorm.

Riddle says that it bothers him when people assume he wears heels to make himself look taller, which is not the case: he had his uniform tailored to match that of Heartslabyul’s first housewarden, as he believes that “the head of a dorm honoring the Queen of Hearts should abide by tradition, which includes dressing formally.”

Riddle and Vil also share a conversation about the “unique benefits” offered by heels, such as how it is “pretty gratifying to watch the Heartslabyul students instantly straight up when they hear my footsteps. That kind of clarion clacking only comes with a good pair of heels.”

The Owl House x Red Hood

So my Crossover Brain attacked me with another scenario today. This is not quite fully fleshed out, but consider:

Jason Todd, fresh out of the grave, slips into the Demon Realm(probably because of some magic bs + Lazarus Pit chain reaction), and as he’s laying there still dazed from being revived, he’s found by the residents of the near by Owl House.

From here there’s 2 ways I’ve thought about playing this. Either: 1) this happens right after the end of season 1 and Jason adjusts to the Boiling Isles while the plot of season 2 happens, or 2) this happens a few years before, and the events of TOH takes place sometime during Damian’s run as Robin.

Both are viable and have varying story potential, but I personally prefer the second option so that’s what I’m going with, more under the cut (warning: I play a little fast and loose with the effects of the Lazarus Pit):

Eda and King take Jason in and help nurse him back to health, and are quick to notice the side effects of the Lazarus Pit. Believing it to be some kind of curse, similar to her own, Eda looks into a cure — or failing that, some kind of remedy to mitigate the effects.

After a week or so of recovery and adjusting to his new “Curse”, Jason asks if there’s a way to go back to the human realm and see his family again. With some hesitation regarding his condition, Eda agrees and opens the portal. Jason quickly figures out how long it’s been and the fact that Batman replaced him as Robin and refused to kill the Joker.

Without the influence of Talia, Jason isn’t driven to go to same the lengths as in canon, but is still thoroughly distraught and convinced that Bruce never loved him. Seeing how shattered Jason is, Eda offers to let him stay with her and help him manage his “Lazarus Curse”, in exchange for him working as her assistant.

Jason, of course, accepts.

From there I have vague ideas of things that Jason does while in the Boiling Isles.

First and foremost to help with his curse he gets something similar to Eda’s curse-indicator gem(?) but his serves a different purpose. Anytime the Rage starts to get too intense, Jason can drain it out of himself and into the gemstone. This does have the side effect of leaving him dazed and his emotions are a little dulled for a few minutes.

It’s not a perfect solution as it doesn’t get rid of the Pit Rage, only stores it. He still has to release it eventually, but it helps keep him from reacting with unnecessary violence in more delicate situations. Eventually he realizes that he can channel the cursed energy he’s stored up into casting spells without glyphs. Unfortunately even relatively simple spells take a decent amount of energy, so it’s not something he can use consistently.

He takes up vigilante work again as an outlet, letting the rage out in smaller bursts as to not seriously hurt anyone. (I’m unsure what his secret identity would be. Would he still take up the name Red Hood? Or would he do something owl themed? He definitely wouldn’t go back to Robin. I’m also debating on what his palisman should be, cuz he’s absolutely getting one.)

He doesn’t have the same incessant drive to learn magic that Luz does, so it takes him a fair bit longer to learn about Glyphs. However, once he does he’s quick to adapt them into his vigilante work.

I think he’d also have to grapple with seeing Eda as a mother figure, especially considering his track record with parental figures overall(and maternal ones in particular)

It would also be cool having him meet the BATTs while doing vigilante work. And depending on how involved Eda gets with his vigilante stuff, she could reunite with Raine a fair bit sooner than in canon.

Once Luz enters the picture, I can see Jason being a little hesitant to let her stay. He sees a part of himself in her — the part that used to be Robin, the part that got him killed — and worries for her safety. He could handle the Boiling Isles fine at that age because he had experience both as Robin and as a native Gothamite, she doesn’t.

I think he spends the first few days/weeks of her stay trying to scare her back to the human realm, trying to show her how dangerous the demon realm really is. But he can’t be there all the time, and one day while he’s out doing Vigilante work it starts to rain, and Luz has to deal with the owl beast for the first time.

Without him.

Of course he doesn’t know that until after the rain lets up and he can get home. After finding out that Luz managed to beat Eda in full beast mode and figured out the light glyph all by herself(with some help from King ofc) he relents in trying to get her to leave and actually starts to train her in how to survive the Boiling Isles as a human, including passing down the combat skills he learned as Robin.

Aaaaand that’s all I have in terms of thought out plot points (for now), all my other ideas for this is far less developed and not worth trying to type out cohesively.

if you've seen Steven universe how would you compare it to TOH? I've seen many takes that TOH is Steven Universe 'done correctly' which drives me up a wall, especially since TOH has a lot of the same flaws as SU (pretty much everyone has to be tied to steven in some way- the same way everyone's gotta tie into Luz, White Diamond pisses me off for the same reason the collector does and dear god both finales are messes and the worldbuilding is also kind of messy) but pretty much everyone can agree that Steven Universe's themes of restorative justice are good, its themes surrounding interpersonal relationships and intergenerational trauma is good- I've seen people justify how TOH handles its villains 2 ways "its doing steven universe's restorative justice but like correctly" or "its about killing your oppressors, which steven should have done" which is dumb. Idk this fandom has a huge hate-boner for SU and Amphibia in general though. I also saw someone have the take the collector and belos where foils which... Is weird I can see where they come from but they never are put together in a way that highlights their similarities and differences. So what are some actual comparisons that can made between the shows outside of LGBT characters and surface level stuff?

Sadly I have not seen Steven Universe so I can't really comment on much of it. I've seen the first episode (both halves), decided the gems were insufferable to me and Steven was okay and went on with my life because at the time, I was a full time college student and a part time Walmart employee. I do like some of the songs that have reached me but I never got an in with the show, especially since my early experience with it was much like Gravity Falls where I heard a lot of high concept stuff about it but not much about why I would actually enjoy a given episode, what was enjoyable about the characters, etc. like that. Honestly, the only criticism I know of for it is that people hate the ending.

BUT.

I have seen one other thing. I have seen about twenty minutes of the Steven Universe movie. With that I can say one thing definitively even if it's not clearing a high bar: The Diamond's turn to good is better than the Collector's because they have literally ANY reason to listen to the person preaching at them. The Collector doesn't. In fact, he has no reason to reform and it is drastically out of character for him to care about... Anyone?

Let me start on the Diamond's side because I don't have a lot to say about this but it is something I'm surprised I haven't heard anyone talk about: They were clearly traumatized by the loss of Pink Diamond. Whether or not you think this is a good part of the plot isn't what matters, the point is that this is a literal fact to the story. This grief has gone unresolved for literal decades (just going by Steven's lifespan, someone in my Discord provided the context that they blamed themselves for her DEATH, not just disappearance, for CENTURIES which only bolsters the point I'm making) and has festered in them a desperation for their old comrade? Friend? I don't 100% know but you get the point. So when her son arrives and can't be kept by force, they're going to be pretty amenable to listen to whatever demands means keeping him around. Is that great? No, I wouldn't say it is as the question of what happens when Steven dies is there but it works for forcing them to consider the consequences of their actions and how they may need to change to have the life they desire. It is a compelling force for the first step of change. It's not amazing but it is at least functional from a narrative standpoint, an emotional standpoint and from a character standpoint. Not that it's great but that it is functional. You can string together how this works without having to just invent bullshit.

The Collector has none of these three because he's the literal fucking worst.

I've talked about this before but the Collector isn't the child the fandom treats him as. Even if we try to disconnect the second season version of the Collector, who very much so knows what death is and the consequences of his actions, S3 Collector does have a foil to Belos: He's an actual colonizing piece of shit. Not in that he is literally colonizing places but in mindset. Everything to him is something to be used for his entertainment or enrichment or it is to be stripped of all rights and brutally oppressed until it fits the role he desires. This is what happens when you become a LITERAL. FUCKING. DOLL. And he even has enforcers like the armies colonies would use that have wildly more powerful magic, i.e. technology, in order to make that oppression more seamless. Remember: Hexside is actively hiding from roaming stars that he just has going around the Isles that hoover up people, making at least those who resist into dolls immediately without question, and then bringing them to him to be new play toys in his game. That is explicitly what he has been doing to the entire Isles for MONTHS once S3 episode 2 happens.

People do not matter to him and this even extends to King. When King steps out of line, The Collector cracks the whip. He's even willing to KILL KING for having the gall of caring about anyone other than him. Those death games would be just as lethal to King as it would be to Eda and Luz after all. And if you actually do divorce S2's "PLAY AMONGST THE BONES!" line (which is fucking awful because you have to remove literally all of the first appearances of a character which is usually considered, you know... Bad) and believe that he doesn't know what death is... He knows what pain is. He knows what torture is. He knows the despair of being trapped in a space where you can't move or act or do anything except watch as an observer on a world that could destroy you at any moment because your prison is all of your being.

And then he makes people into dolls, with consciousness, without a second thought. He is willing to BREAK people in order to make them play along. His literal plan was to shatter the bodies of the Owl House trio over and over and over again until they were subservient to his desires. That is WORSE than just wanting to kill them. And he only stops to throw a tantrum because he fails to succeed and starts whining about it like any selfish asshole not getting his way. Not like a child: Like a selfish asshole.

So with ALL of this, what does the show do to try to make him consider the consequences of his actions? Well... Nothing. It claims it's trying to do something but the tour with the trio is much more a circle jerk about how amazing the show was and how much could have happened if not for the shortening ("That sounds like something that could have been its own spin off!" Or whatever King says to Eda talking about her and Raine's time at Hexside) than it is about talking to the Collector. There's a couple lines here and there, talking to him about what works for making friends but does it stick?

No, the Collector learns nothing and in mocking Steven Universe, they make that clear. The Collector is told that people are complex and you must show compassion. Rather than actually believing this, he uses it like a blunt hammer, just like all of his other solutions, to make a problem of his go away. That's why he hugs Belos and assumes it will work. He is not considering the complexity of humanity or the person he is applying this to. It is just to solve a problem so he'll get praised and go back to playing his games. Nothing. More.

And then he fucks off instead of fixing the damage he'd done because why would he stay? Why would he help? He hasn't learned anything and he doesn't want to help these people. He has NO motivation for why he helps save the Archive except otherwise he loses his sweet crash pad. So afterwards? He's gonna go somewhere where he can be himself and not be scolded for it because this toy is no longer fun.

Edit: He does stay to change everyone back from dolls. That much more falls into the "It's the ending, we have to have the problem only he can fix be fixed by him" despite the fact that he is responsible for so much more destruction that would theoretically be pretty easy for him to fix as well. He only does what is demanded of him for the sake of a happy ending, not because of character motivation, not from how I see it at least.

The most condemning part of this is that it's all around Luz. All around someone he doesn't like. He sees Luz as trying to take away his only friend after all and, you know, he is correct about that. They don't even try to hide that fact during the tour. They're still clearly upset with him and not even trying to be his friend, they're just lecturing him. It doesn't work from a character perspective, a narrative perspective or an emotional one. King MIGHT have with better writing, there's a reason I always wanted the Collector redeemed by one of his games forcing him to have to kill King by the rules he made before breaking it and having to face how that's unfair and cruel to others since they wouldn't get that leniency, but that's not how the show plays it. King is an unwilling servant for one episode and then VERY against the Collector in the next until after the death games. When he first shows up, King isn't trying to mediate, he is ready to fight just like the other two. He's not the Collector's friend and he never was so why would the Collector bother listening to him?

That is why me saying the Diamonds, even with my limited knowledge, works better than the Collector is almost literally the worst you can do when it comes to something like this. All the setup is wrong, the catalyst requires explicit retcons and don't work with the character and the payoff is... Nothing. Literally nothing. The only way to have done it worse is to have had everyone praise the Collector before he then stabbed Amity and no one acted like that was a problem. It can only function because we are TOLD he's redeemed even if he never shows it.

Andrias standing alone as a farmer, accepting the punishment for his actions and trying to make better on them, is such better payoff to a redemption arc than anything the Collector gets and his redemption was in character and setup by his past. So then let's get to one of your last points: Why is it that the TOH fandom rags on SU and Amphibia so much, especially for their endings, when theirs is such shit?

Well... Because that's the reputation of TOH. That it is the 'good' one. That it is better than almost all other media. The show itself, with moments like the Collector mocking the SU ending by hugging Belos, reinforces this. As such, for you to criticize TOH as failing in a department that other shows are not rapturously praised for is to fall out of sync with the show itself. As such, all other works must be placed beneath it, especially if those are widely believed to have a flaw in an element to then raise TOH up with. This is part of why so many people want to say the Amphibia ending is wrong because the Amphibia ending is brave and controversial and saying something while the TOH ending?

I mean... Do you really think the Collector's the only part of it objectively flawed like this? Because if a major redemption for your big bad is botched this badly, you can bet other problems exist. I've talked about them at length. But there are probably people out there who would call me the Lily Orchard of TOH if I was better known.

THG characters in TOH covens

I'll add more characters eventually or people can add their own thoughts

Katniss - So when I first thought of what coven to put her in, I thought of either plant, healing, and maybe beast keeping.

So for plant, it's kinda obvious with her feeling at touch in the forest, at home in nature, feeling safe in the meadow. And I feel like she kind of would be good with plants, just not as a main. I don't see her regularly using plants to control them, or using their poison against people like I mostly remember from TOH

Healing could probably be her or something she's interested in. She definitely doesn't enjoy the process of actual medical care, her thinking it was very gross, but she might like magic medical care. She does really admire the skill to heal, and if she wasn't grossed out I can see her being into it. Healing in TOH is just directing your attention deeply to the injury and not really directly touching it much

And then beast keeping. Beast keepers can obviously, keep beasts and creatures. Y'know like pets you can use to fight or defend yourself or do basic things. Well, Katniss doesn't seem like the type to do this, but I could see her giving herself beast like traits such as, better sight, better hearing, hunting senses, a sense of smell to help her locate or track things, faster reflexes, I think she would enjoy the beast keeping coven's abilities to give herself animal-like traits so she could fare better in the woods

Peeta - I think of healing, illusion, or potion brewing. All of them have attributes to him and when I first started this post I made it sound like I could only choose one... but fuck it they would all be wild witches under Belos/Snow, Ima be real

So Peeta is a healing person, he would definitely like healing powers and the ability to ail the pain from long-time injures. Like imagine he started it because his brothers were rowdy or he wanted to help heal people, I think he would

Illusion, y'know Peeta's a tricksty boi. He's definitely good with his words, he might be good enough to create an illusion to everybody without the magic and just with his words. Actually I can see illusion as something Peeta tries or is a bit interested in, but likes healing and potion brewing better

Potions? How does potions relate to Peeta? Well there's this one fanfic for TOH I read where a subtype of potion brewing is actually potion baking. Baking with potion ingredients. Peeta would probably bake breads with potions that make people happy, or stronger, and if it's an enemy (his mom), she might never see it coming

I'm definitely gonna add more characters, (eventually), but if you want y'all could add extra covens for Peeta and Katniss, or say your opinion about that current ones

Like my other proposal headcanons with Steve (toh) Bakugou is 100% the one to propose, becausr you've got another thinf coming if you think you're beating this boy to the punch. As far as hes concerned he's never lost anything, he's not about to start lol.

That being said, I think the ring pro hero bakugou and the ring fresh out of UA bakugou would get you are very different.

Pro hero bakugou has more money to spend on his lovely s/o, i also stick by the idea that he would 100% show you off. "My s/o's better than yours sh¡tty nerd" <- actual thing he's said. Anyways, pro hero would buy you a flashier ring, defiently an eye catcher, whereas UA grad bakugou would buy you something more afforable, but still pretty.

you were gifted to him when he was promoted to the role he was made for, the both of you just 14 then, whilst your mother and siblings had been kept by the emperor himself

you never heard about them — they could have been dead or alive for all you knew — and you were reliving your kidnapping all over again

your new home was just smaller: a single room with a single window that was too small to fit through and a single door that was always locked and a single bed with one creaky post that you were chained to practically 24/7

you were given food and water, barely enough to survive but it was better than nothing, and occasionally he’d put down a pillow for you or bring you some scraps from his food

you liked those times, longed for them

because you didn’t know any better

but for everything he was, hunter was generally nicer than his uncle and he didn’t hurt you as much after you started living in his room

yes he’d scold you when you cried and would muzzle you if you tried to talk to him — but he never beat you or threatened you like belos did so you found yourself liking him a bit more

even if he perceived you as dumb and as a pet that couldn’t take care of herself (he said as much and you’d have disputed it if you could speak his language)

because apathy was better than cruelty

but after a few years of this treatment, something changed

your ‘owner’ became more gentle, talking to you quietly and taking care to bring you more food and show you affection

he even got rid of the muzzle

he talks to you about his doubts, his fears, and he divulges the actions of the emperor to you — and you’re empathetic and try to comfort him as best you can

you and flapjack are the only things he can trust — and you share your concerns privately with one another

though through it all he still treats you like a pet, like you can’t understand and you’re working off instincts

and, whilst annoying, being a pet isn’t as bad as being an object so you don’t fight it too much

so you just let yourself go along with what’s happening — helping him through his panic attacks as they become more frequent and trying to do what you can with the sparse info the palisman gives you

and, eventually, once he’s fled the coven he takes you with him and leaves you at eda’s house — asking them to take care of you whilst he goes into hiding

leaving you somewhere far away from the emperor where he knows you won’t get hurt (guilty for his actions when he was younger)

and there you find someone who understands you — luz — and you feel more loved than you had done in the years since you were separated from your family

but you still find yourself worrying about him, whether he’s dead or alive, and asking the human if you can help her look for him

because he didn’t know any better when he hurt you, and when he learned he let you go — and that was far more than most witches would have done for your kin

because you knew first hand just how cruel and vengeful the emperor could be

because he didn’t deserve to die

Now, I am not a Lunter shipper. I like Lumity, am obsessed with Huntlow and am a ‘Luz and Hunter as siblings’ truther. That said, Lunter antis occasionally have such wild takes that I want to be that one ‘not like other ‘Luz and Hunter as siblings’ truthers’. Here are two takes that had me rolling my eyes, because I couldn’t choose:

a) Firstly, one user claiming that Luz would NEVER date a white boy. and that there was no point arguing about it because it’s canon. Which confused me, because she’s demonstrably bisexual, and also dating a white girl. And moreover, Luz has shown attraction to a white boy before (Edric, and possibly also Nevareth, who is Ambiguously Brown at best).

b) Secondly, one user announcing that they don’t ship Alador and Darius because of the ‘Luz and Hunter as siblings’ headcanons. I also don’t ship Alador and Darius, but not because ‘Luz and Hunter are like siblings, so if Darius adopts Hunter and gets together with Alador, then Hunter and Amity will be stepsiblings, which will make Luz and Amity practically sisters via Hunter and then them dating would be like incest.’ That is…a leap in logic too far for me.

4. What was the last straw that made you block that annoying person?

I actually don’t block people purely for being annoying for the most part, so I can’t answer.

13. Worst blorboification

Darius. He’s a very morally grey person, and although I am a fan of him adopting Hunter, I don’t think he’d be as paternal—or at least not at first—as the fandom often portrays him as. Sure he’s an upstanding and ultimately good person, but he’s also judgemental, petty, emotionally immature, and unnecessarily antagonistic much of the time. Nice is different than good, indeed.

16. you can't understand why so many people like this thing (characterization, trope, headcanon, etc)

Because the tea is piping hot today, and I want to start fires, I have no idea why Aladarius is such a popular ship. Well, I do understand WHY it’s popular, and I understand the desire to give Alador a happy relationship post-divorcing-Odalia, HOWEVER. I think much of the fandom is missing the fact that Alador and Darius would be the messiest couple in the history of anything ever. They do NOT know how to communicate. They have extensive emotional baggage and minimal emotional intelligence or maturity. Neither are terribly nice or pleasant people. Personally, I feel like Alador is probably done with relationships after everything with Odalia, but if you wanted to have Darius and Alador get together, I feel that it’s wasted potential to have said relationship work—or at least work without significant quantities of therapy and effort.

20. part of canon you found tedious or boring Most of King’s ‘take over the world’ plots were very frustrating (with Sense and Insensitivity and Escape Of The Palisman being the worst offenders) and I don’t think it made him endearing as much as annoying

okay i can give you the sparknotes of what i'd developed for the prequel. maybe someday i'll write all this in full. but in the meantime, these are the basics. (if anyone here is a fan of wwaitsoatl and wants Extended Darius Backstory.... come get ya juice)

i still need to flesh out more of the ensemble cast but the three most plot-relevant OCs are talia, daphne, and cayden. haven't figured out last names, none have any direct relation to canon toh cast members bc i do Not want to weave a bunch of confusing family trees.

the shape of the arc is what's described in chapter 9 of wwaitsoatl. darius's mentor -- whose name was hunter, but i'll call him GG here for the sake of clarity -- was involved with wild magic and wild witches.

this started out as a way for him to channel his own power without being dependent upon belos & the empire's technology. it turned into a much more involved double life rebelling against the coven system and trying to get belos to relax the empire's grip on the isles.

knowing what you do about belos, the natural response to this is. uh-oh!!

darius wanders into all of this by accident when he catches GG and cayden tattooing n enchanting Very Clearly Fake coven sigils on a couple 'new recruits.'

cayden is a witch about GG's age, maybe a little older, who Supposedly belongs to the bard coven but..... doesn't, really. he's been working on making passable fake sigils for a while.

GG swears darius to secrecy, darius wants to find out more, darius ends up meeting other witches who are important to GG.

uh oh this is getting long. meet daphne and talia under the cut.

cayden is one of GG's lovers/partners, daphne is the other, because i'm polyamorys georg and i do what i want. daphne is a wild witch who's never joined a coven.

at this point in the empire, joining the coven system is Strongly Encouraged but has not yet been fascistly enforced. most younger people have joined one, but not all. there's definite messaging about how your magic is Incomplete without a coven and you're betraying your peers and denying your selfhood by not joining one.

daphne's main talents lie in plant and oracle magic. she's been working on restoring and protecting groves of palistrom wood -- even at that point, the environmentally-conscious witches can tell that Something's going wrong with the trees.

i'd say that she has some similarities to willow, at least in terms of What She Cares About. but she's also much more ready to brawl at any given moment, much less nice, and much worse at putting on a brave face under pressure.

(cayden, on the other hand, is excellent at remaining calm and keeping the peace. both in the triad and in high-pressure political situations. everything about social camouflage that darius didn't learn from GG himself, he learned from cayden.)

the worst interpersonal conflict in the story happens between daphne and GG, around the middle of the story. eventually GG's stalling and diversion tactics stop working & belos orders him to requisition daphne's groves for the empire.

this is not an order that GG can say no to.

he's never told daphne exactly what belos does with the palismen. but she has oracle and plant magic and she's been hyperfocused on the palistrom trees for years. She Knows.

daphne is not going to let belos have this magic.

she sets fire to every single one of her trees.

which. is. fucking devastating.

the ensuing fight between her and GG in the ashes is so vicious that it probably could've ended with one of them dead,

if not for talia.

talia is an older witch, in her late fifties. keep in mind that the empire has only existed for 20 years at this point. talia was well into middle age when the empire fully unified the isles, and she'd been fighting it tooth and nail prior to that. she remembers pre-empire life and she believes it's achievable again.

if daphne parallels willow, then talia most closely parallels eda. except that she's actually much more relaxed and LESS likely to brawl and has a much healthier social life. talia believes that individual resistance isn't nearly as strong as a network of people all sharing their resources together.

she's the closest thing to a mother that GG has. she's the one who helped darius learn complex sewing skills (he could at least patch things up on his own, prior). she is Determined not to let the empire take any of these kids from her, directly or indirectly. so she intervenes in daphne and GG's fight before either of them can get hurt.

darius spends some time working with talia and cayden on strengthening his own magic. largely behind GG's back, bc GG does not want darius taking on any unnecessary risks. talia and cayden aren't exactly malicious, but they Do let darius push himself further than he really should.

eventually talia is arrested -- the exact mechanics don't matter. what matters is that belos knows that she's close to GG, even though she isn't saying a word. so he calls GG and darius into the throne room, shuts the doors, and tells GG to carry out her sentence of petrification.

it is Very Clear that this is a test. it is Very Clear that any protest or argument will be taken as treason.

GG does what he's told. darius watches.

after it's over, belos asks to speak with darius alone. i've actually written this scene in full. GG very nearly blows his cover, darius convinces him to keep his shit together. belos does not hurt darius, just playacts the oh-so-concerned uncle. extremely threatening about it. you'd tell me if he was in trouble, wouldn't you??

darius leaves the chamber with GG, who immediately goes out looking for cayden.

cayden is gone. his door's been kicked in. the house is a mess.

GG has a panic attack. 'he knows, he knows we were in here.' horrible echoes of that scene in hollow mind. darius hugs him through it. GG asks him if he's been practicing all the dangerous magic bullshit that GG told him not to. then begs darius to use said dangerous magic bullshit to go warn daphne and the others in their network.

GG promises that he's going to finish all of this, one way or the other. he says he should have finished it back before petrifying talia. or hell, back when everything happened with the palistrom groves. it is very clear that he intends to kill belos.

daphne and the rest of the ensemble cast are already gone by the time darius reaches their usual hideouts.

GG is already gone by the time darius gets back to the palace.

belos announces that his nephew was murdered by wild witches. and that he has the traitors in custody.

cayden and daphne and the others in the ensemble are petrified for GG's murder.

darius is the only one left who knows the truth about what happened. darius is the only one who knows that this is all a political sham being stirred up to make coven conscription mandatory, stamp out all remaining wild witchery, and enact a slew of new fascist laws.

and darius is the only one left who knows exactly how cayden faked coven sigils. the only one who can pass on that knowledge. and the only one who can secure a position in which fake coven sigils won't come under too much scrutiny.

there's only so much he can do to honor the others' memories. if he stands against the empire alone, he'll be killed. belos is already SO suspicious of him.

he does what he can very, very quietly instead.

Jasper and Lilac (<- uhhh their name I think sorry this is in a rush)

Can I have some details about them, like their story and who they are?

HEHEJEJEJ. OH RAINBOW. MY DEAREST MUTUAL... YOU HAVE MADE A HORRIBLE HORROBLE MISTAKE.

Jasper and Lilac are both grimwalkers! Toh OCS that got uh. A little out of control. Whoops. Jasper is Darius' mentor, a blank slate that I have far too much fun taking advantage of, and Lilac is the grimwalker before him!

Let's start with Jasper. Jasper is...complicated. A thing I wanted to do was explore how growing up in an environment like the coven would realistically shape a person. And also projecting a bit. Jasper has been shown from a very young age that honesty is dangerous. If you tell people the truth, they get angry at you for it. Ergo, don't tell the truth. He's gotten used to lying or omitting the truth and thinks it's bad, but a part of life. It's not even a conscious decision for him for a lot of the time. Like he chooses on missions and all, but so much of it is also just...reflex. Gives a fake age without even thinking about it. A fake name is easy to come up with. He has plenty spare. Cover stories rehearsed. And it's the little things too. He reflexively leaves things out, not even thinking about it. He doesn't think about telling Darius his scar is from a battle, it's natural, it's not a conscious decision or something he stresses over. He just does it. He doesn't think about telling Darius yes, he's practiced all magic, he just does it. He doesn't think about telling Darius that he's the best at what he does, he just does. A lot of the time, the lie isn't even conscious or like debated over. He just lies. Honesty is harder for him because he's been lying for so long. It's his reflex to lie when asked a question. You ask his age, he's giving you a random number. You ask where he's from, he picks a random town name. It's an ill kept secret that The Golden Guard never tells the truth. Everyone knows, they just don't point it out to be polite.

Honesty is, once again, far more difficult. He feels like he's forcing it out of himself. Trying to express how he feels is hard and he always feels like he's acting, even if he genuinely is feeling that way, because he has to drag it out of himself. He has to laugh in a forced, more pretty sounding way as not to be weird. He can't express he's happy or grateful weirdly, so it has to be stilted and rehearsed. He feels like if he needs help he has to PROVE he needs help, so he exaggerates his sadness to make the point. It's not that he isn't that distressed, but it all feels like he's acting. He doesn't know how to be authentic. He doesn't know how to act how he means. He's always acting, always performing. He never stops.

He's a very good actor. He can cry on cue, he can look perfectly convincing, he can pull off whatever he'd like. But he doesn't know who he is behind all that. He doesn't know how to stop lying. He's lied for so long. To everyone. To his uncle, to his friends, to himself.

He is viciously protective. He sees Darius as his son. Darius...well. He knows (unreliable narrator) that Darius doesn't see him that way, but he'll care for him nonetheless. Jasper is very mischievous, very sassy, and he and Darius banter with each other a lot. Some dialogue that illustrated both Jaspers personality and their dynamic from a thing I'm writing:

"Hey, Slimeball!"

"What the fuck, Jasper?!"

Jasper threw his head back and laughed, a sharp sound. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, your face! I can't not!"

"You just tackled me out of the fucking sky, and you laugh?"

"Language!" He chided, like he's some boy scout and didn't just tackle him out of absolutely nowhere. "And it wasn't from the sky, you just didn't see me." He let go, offering a hand to help him up. Darius scoffs and takes it, brushing dirt off his back.

"Oh yeah, that's way better. What the hell was that for? Don't look at me like that, hell isn't a swear."

"Yes it is."

"No it's not."

"I'm not even going to dignify that with a debate." His mentor pinched the bridge of his nose. "That, my dear pupil-" He does an overdramatic bowing motion for emphasis, because he's Jasper. "Is a lesson in the importance of perception!"

"I understand all those words when you're not being a pretentious little bitch about it." He quipped, wiping grass off his arms. If he has to wash this uniform again, he might lose it. Who's idea was it to make uniforms that make any stains this obvious? Feels impractical.

"You do realize you can make a sentence without swearing, right? Do you know that's a thing you can do?"

"Fuck."

Jasper inhales, clearly resisting the urge to lecture. "Not getting sidetracked. Point is, you need to learn to be aware of your surroundings."

"And that means anticipating rude little assholes jumping me out of nowhere and ruining my day?"

"Exactly!" He shot him some finger guns, because that is a thing he did for some reason. "Also, swear jar. You've gotta expect the unexpected, sparky! Coven things."

"There's gotta be a better way to teach me than to jump me out of nowhere!"

"There isn't, actually. What better way to train your observation skills than to make you use them?"

"This feels extreme."

He just flashes him that stupid fuckin grin. "You'll get used to it. Trust me, you'll thank me for it later."

He rolls his eyes and shoves him lightly, like he always does. "Yeah. Sure I will, Jispo."

Jasper is...well, a lot of things. I'm gonna use the format of that one thing. He's a sweet heart. He's extremely manipulative. He's a backstabber. He's dangerously loyal. He's incredibly intelligent. He makes the stupidest decisions possible in the most logical way he can. He fears God. He views himself as a tool. He has so many wants and so many feelings and thinks he deserves none of them. A thing he has is he thinks that anyone who loves him only loves the version of himself he presents. He thinks the only one who loves the real him is Belos, and Belos treats him accordingly. He's a good dad. He's incredibly toxic. He's so many things at once and it's very hard to explain him. He's messed up and he loves his family and friends so so much. A very important thing about him is that he refuses to break a promise. That is one thing he will never do. He never makes a promise he can't keep. He will make his promises very specific in a way he will be able to keep them. He will bend himself inside out to keep a promise while doing whatever it is he's doing. He's charismatic and he's also such a fucking loser. I love him so much.

He has scales bc grimmie and is constantly taking them off to "look normal". When questioned he says they make people uncomfortable, and he's a coven head so he can't afford to be unsightly. He's...not great with self love. He views himself as someone who became irredeemable so his uncle wouldn't have to. Y'know that one post that's "I would kill for you. Please let me kill for you. I don't know how to express my love for you without destroying everything that hurts you. I've hurt you. I'm going to destroy myself." That's Jasper. That is very much Jasper. He doesn't know who he is outside of what service he can give. His self destructiveness a lot of the time isn't conscious. It's him not thinking about it. He doesn't think that he's denying himself resources when he feels like shit. To him, it's "eh, I'm too tired. I don't wanna." It's not conscious. He's silently destroying himself because he doesn't see a way out. He's aware one day he's going to fall apart if he doesn't die first. But there's no way out.

He's very protective, as I've mentioned. But sometimes that protectiveness causes him to do horrible horrible things. He's so intent on protecting the ones he loves that he strips them of their agency. He's not above manipulating them or lying to them if he thinks it'll protect them. I'm working on a fic about him right now so I might can it here? I've daydreamed about yoinking him out of toh and making a full blown story with him hahaha. I love him so much.

Rocky aur Rani fic

Time flows slower when you're lonely. It was true. The loneliness was getting to her. It was strange though. Not like she ever entertained people around her. Then why was it, that the loneliness was only hitting now?

Her thoughts were interrupted by a knock. She fixed her dupatta and looked up. It was Jamini. Dhanalakshmi immediately tried to divert her attention elsewhere.

"Kya mein....?"

"Hmm, aayiye."

Jamini walked to a chair near the desk Dhanalakshmi sat at. It was a huge room with many windows. But they had all been shut with the curtains pulled over. A pungent scent had taken over the room.

"Aap thik hein-?"

"Yahaan meri thabiyath ke baare mein baath karne aayi hain aap? Toh haan, thik hoon mein. Karodo ka dhandha chalta hain mere wajah se. Thik toh hona padega."

This probably wasn't the best time to talk, but Jamini was already here.

"Jab se Kanwal ji....aapke pathi guzre hain, sunne main aaya hain ki aap zyada kisi se baath nahi karti hain."

"Aisa kuch nahi hain Jamini ji. I have not relied on anybody to earn bread for my house or to take care of my company. I have never been too close to my husband nor my son. Loneliness is not something which affects me."

"You were not lonely before Dhanalakshmi ji. Aapne jisko bhi dhoor rakha tha, apne marzi se rakha tha. You were alone. Alone by choice. Par ab jo Khaalipan hain......it is not by choice. Yahi farak hota. Being alone is by choice, but being lonely never is."

Several moments passed by, neither of them spoke. Jamini cursed her timing. This was definitely not what she wanted to put across. Dhanalakshmi finally broke the silence.

"Meri maa thi na, she was very clever. But where would our household put up with clever women. She assumed she had no choice but to suppress herself. But it suffocated me to see her toil hard to make our house liveable when she could've been doing any job she wished to, with more credit to her name. So when I was married away, I had only one goal. To live life without any credits due. After many years I opened Dhanalakshmi sweets.

But in the process of achieving my goal, I only ever cared about establishing my name and getting my credits. Something which started off as a Woman's fight against the society turned into something personal. Somewhere i forgot that I myself am a woman, a daughter of another woman who was oppressed in this society.

I brought my son up, teaching him only how to run a business, never how to treat people around him. I remember the first time he hit his wife in front of me. We were in a business meeting. But all I wanted was for the drama to end there. I asked her to leave and excused my son. And then I did it again and again and again until i couldn't care about it anymore. But I have nobody to blame. It is all my greed for a name for myself which turned me into the person who brewed my greed. Life has come full circle."

Now it was Jamini's turn to speak.

"Rani ne bataya aapke chitti ke baare mein..." Dhanalakshmi sighed.

"Aap apne aap ko jitni buri samajthi hain, uthni hain nahi. Haan, galthi hui hain. Par koi galti itni bhi badi nahi hoti ki use maaf na Kiya jaa sake."

After a silence of another hundred moments, Dhanalakshmi spoke again. "Magar Maine kab kahaan ki mein khudko buri samajthi hoon?"

Jamini broke a sweat, "Nahi, mera matlab yeh nahi tha...-"

She was interrupted by a chuckle. Dhanalakshmi smiled in turn making Jamini smile. Atleast the visit was a success.

I still think that taking collectors power is the ideal way to redeem them, not even all of it, just so they are equal to an average witch.

I baby sat horribly rich children with similar abandonment issues, and they don't start feeling sympathy unless the parent agrees to take away their power for a while. Forcing one to be an equal gives them a unique perspective they otherwise would of never agreed on even existing

I really don't like it. Losing his magic will rip away Collector's personal unique upbringning. I can understand if he locked part of his powers away by himself and can return them all whenever he wants it. But just permanently lose them rubs me the wrong way.

People are not born with money. But magic is like another limb.

And in TOH magic is not just cool super power, it's a way to self express yourself. Luz found a way to be a witch using different kind of magic. The main villian was restricting magic and depriving witches from their freedom.

And losing magic is... not good. It is a metaphor for disability. Hunter being without a bile sac is a 'half a witch' and we saw on Eda's example how people like that are treated. Willow just for being a late bloomer was bullied and name called. This is not a good behaviour of course. But this shows how magic is ingrained in their society. You can't just be without magic with your life staying the same. Especially in a dangerous place like Demon Realm.

Stripping Collector of their magic to level them with witches is... unfair. Because he is too powerful? He did not cheat his way in, he was born a different being. Just like King. Should King lose most of his powers too? Collector is a collector, King is a titan, Luz is a human, they all are different and deserve to stay who they are.

And giving Collector new perspective...

This is just a straight up punishement. Why must Collector be punished for being different? Again, for me this feels like Luz s1. Who was punished for being harmful to others by sending her to camp with a goal to strip away her energised creativity(basically force her to stop being ND). Yes she needed a new perspective to learn better, but she did not lose anything on the path to it, only gained new knowledge and tools how to use her energised creativity in a healthy way.

Collector is an OP child and his magic can prevent him from learning, yes. But I think Collector already proved that he wants to learn, he doesn't need to lose anything because he knows how to respect boundaries, he doesn't lack the knowledge that will be in the way of his improving. He needs experience and supportive people in his life. That will give him the right knowledge and unconditional love.

I know this a bit idealized, but this is TOH. Having an ND child that harms people because they don't know how not to, and instead of hurting them to 'make' them understand, they will get support and help and love. If not a cartoon with right morals and lessons, where else we will get it?

Can a Wittebane special ever air on Disney Channel? I wonder how they will tackle the religious themes and murder of Caleb while keeping it Child friendly.

HAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH Oh, wait, you actually think it'd focus on Philip?

Sorry for the mocking statements but that is the long and short of it. To keep it child friendly, for what is most compelling, and for what would be most in line with TOH, the way a Wittebane special would go is actually pretty easy to map out, at least with the moments that we know about:

You start with a teenage boy looking gaunt and exhausted as he prepares for a day in the woods to forage for things that he can get and wood to chop. He needs to make money for him and his little brother, Philip, after all. He hasn't really gotten to eat much more than scraps for the past couple days but hey, that's okay. Philip gets to eat and that's all the nourishment Caleb needs. He wants his little brother to have a proper childhood and he'll give up anything for that.

While out in the woods that day though, he catches a smell. An absolutely divine smell. He follows it to its source and finds a woman in a cloak feeding the animals of the area. The bread she has smells like heaven but how she speaks to the animals reeks of the devil. His stomach gives him away though and she turns with a wry grin. She isn't afraid of him but intrigued because he didn't immediately attack, something she calls out when he won't eat her bread because of his suspicions. They strike a deal that Evelyn will tell him a truth in return for the bread. That way he knows his soul isn't the price of it. "Are you a witch?" "Yes." And that moment of pure honesty makes Caleb pause. Then he runs. He runs fast and hard, racing back to town to be sure that he can tell everyone and potentially get his brother away. To keep him safe from that which threatens them all. However, he is stopped by the fact that his little brother is sobbing and soaked. One of the other kids tricked him into the river and said they shouldn't have bother to be washed up onto the shore. They should have just drowned in the ocean because if God wanted them, they would still have... have... Caleb holds him tight before looking at the sole remaining photo he has of all four of them. The next day he is in mass, his leg shaking as he listens to the fire and brimstone the preacher speaks of. He can't focus on the words though. Not as he looks at how the kids that hurt Philip are at the front of the pews while they sit in the back because no one wants them near them. There's anger and hate in this room and it gnaws at his gut just as badly as his hunger does.

And so now we get some time of Philip and Evelyn bonding, romancing and we see the seasons pass in a sweet, effective montage to speedrun their romance, especially if this is just a 44 minute special or the like, let alone if it's 22. This montage could easily also show how the two growing older and contrast Caleb's joys of embracing the other with Philip's growing anger as he spends time in town and is indoctrinated, all without having to say what he is being indoctrinated for besides imagery of burning fires.

Then finally, we have Evelyn asking when Caleb plans to tell his brother. Caleb doesn't know. At first it was to make sure Evelyn was actually safe. Then never finding the right time because of fear of someone in town hearing. Now... Now Philip is so converted to witch hunting that he doesn't know what to do. They're even considering making his little brother witch hunter general because of just how committed he is. Caleb feels defeated and tired and all he really feels like he has left is Evelyn.

"Well... Maybe it's time to find your own path then. Your brother will be fine at your home and... And maybe you'll be fine at mine. With the rest of the witches."

It then cuts to Philip, furious, slamming open the door to the house. He has a ritual dagger in his hand... Because he has been named a lead hunter while one of those brats from when they were younger is Witch Hunter General. Just another time where the town decided to choose the people over parents than him. Over the one with the purest soul in town. At least, he thinks as he picks up the family photo and tries to calm himself, one of them. He needs his brother. He's gone again. He wishes Caleb would let him take care of him now. He makes enough money through the church to support them after all. He doesn't have to keep risking his life in the woods anymore.

"With the rest of the witches."

Philip's heart sinks. What? Who is this woman? He's never seen her? Wait, if she's with the witches, his brother is in danger! But the rest of them? If he waits for them to go he can find all of them and they'll HAVE to make him witch hunter general! But that means risking Caleb's life. He can't allow that, even for his own-

"You're right. Philip will just be happier here and... And maybe just best that I vanish. He'll just blame a witch for it anyways and trying to say goodbye would only put as all in danger." Tears come down Philip's face and his knuckles turn white as rain begins. A familiar door opens up next to Evelyn and she turns the key we all know in it. The shine of the portal illuminates Philip's face before a bolt of lightning has it change to Belos' mask and the special ends.

And that's it. It isn't a fun version of it but there's literally no version of the Wittebanes, without major retcons, that can be told in a fun way. They are orphans from a super conservative colony who majored in witch hunting before then having a schism between them be formed due to that witch hunting. This potentially, because it's up to interpretation, led to Philip killing Caleb. Bare minimum, something happens to Caleb that leads to him being dead and haunting his brother while Philip is left stranded on the Isles with no way of going back without finding his own way. The only part of that story that could be fun or comedic is the romance plotline with Evelyn and Caleb. It's also the one that allows the most to be left in obscurity about Belos, thus enabling the show not to contradict its own lore that way. Worse yet, it's also just the best story to tell there besides the rise of witch hunter Belos but those themes are indeed incredibly dark and SUPER not fun to tackle directly so it's better that it happens mostly off screen. Also, you know, it makes sure that the show doesn't glorify bigotry and hate by having us see the rise of Philip into bigoted witch hunter from his perspective. Instead, the story focuses on being critical of such things and accepting the other, which is theoretically in line with TOH in general.

It could be an effective special but I don't think it'd end up being what Belos fans want and for people who don't like Belos, the most they'll get out of it is ANOTHER quirky romance from TOH that mirrors Huntlow too much to feel unique or special. In other words, it's mostly a lose lose situation, especially since none of these elements will make the base story any deeper. It'll just add to the confusion some feel for the fact that they believe Belos is a victim and a product of his society who has a sympathetic reason for his anger but then is just a one note, pure evil villain in the main show.

This is honestly the problem with almost anything that addresses anything we saw in the show. The contradictory nature of the base product's writing, and how it slaughtered concepts at the root, means that expanding on these concepts can only make the contradictions worse. It can only make the base work worse or have MORE people screaming "WHY WASN'T THIS INCLUDED!?"

It's like how me and my Discord finally settled on one option for a lore book that could actually work for TOH if they wanted to release one for the show: One that tells us all about the Isles we didn't see. We see so little of it after all that just telling us about all these neat towns, the ways they operate, or expanding on the forms of magic that never got to do anything, could be neat. It doesn't fix the base show's lack of creativity or consistency but it doesn't inherently conflict with it either. It would just be there as harmless lore that also would have a bad hook for any readers because unlike the journals for Gravity Falls or Amphibia, they wouldn't expand on a character or the like.

The best route for TOH to go is to pull a Harry Potter, again (I hate how often this show forces me to bring up that stupid series) and make Fantastical Beasts and Where to Find Them. Either the movie or the book as either are at best tangentially related to the series but mostly just have the name of the series on them for brand recognition because the authors of both works didn't make a good enough world to actually tell anything more compelling within it after the story was done. Not without making the base product look worse.

And that includes the story of the Wittebanes.

What sucks is that I actually do like the plot I wrote up for the Wittebanes. Like this could genuinely be a really interesting story to make. However A: I wouldn't do fanfiction for it because of the requirement of one killing the other eventually that effectively demands no nuance between Caleb and Philip, forcing their dynamic to be very basic and B: it still suffers from having to be basic because Belos is a basic bitch evil guy while all signs from the show point to Caleb having been an absolute paragon. I made him about as gray as I could in my write up and it's still not much.
