soap's whole deal being sniper and demolitions gets me going bc on the surface they sound so different but when you get into it, you realise it's bc soap's smart
sniping is all math; calculating distances and wind interference and bullet drop. something i think people overlook is he was listed as a sniper first so it can be implied that he's better at it than demolitions. he does more sniping in both campaigns than demolitions work; in capture or kill, ghost specifically calls on him to take down the aq snipers
and demolitions is math with a hit of chemistry; knowing what mixes with what, knowing how much to use, recognising environmental factors and adjusting accordingly. it's not just about the boom; so much work goes into contained/ planned explosions. especially when having enough power for a breacher charge and not bringing down the whole building is the difference between mission success and failure
the chemical bombs he makes in alone can't just be any old cleaners, they have to have the correct reaction to each other; he just knew off the top of his head what would mix with what to create what reaction. he would also potentially have to recognise them by sight/smell bc they would’ve been written in spanish
soap would also have to know architecture; recognising structural integrity and weak points so he knows exactly where to plant a charge to bring it down and how it'll come down
he has an incredible soldier's mind people just forget that bc he's sociable which itself is a skill
we know he tends to buck against orders he doesn't agree with like when he pushes back against ghost in capture or kill and shepherd when he tells them to release hassan
he gets closer to people and sees if he can trust them and that's when he follows them without question. really think about how he talks to alejandro and rudy; he asks about their home and alejandro's family and rudy's relationship with him. those aren't questions you ask a stranger after a few hours of knowing them. that's not even touching on his relationship with ghost
he also deliberately brings people of higher ranks down to his level; talking informally with ghost and giving him a shoulder punch, addressing alejandro (a colonel!!) by his first name and rudy by his nickname despite literally just meeting them. he personalises all of them and it’s in direct opposition to the reason most characters do that; it’s not due to insubordination or lack of respect, the more he respects and trusts someone, the more casual he is with them
he digs into people; he wants to know what makes them tick and that determines if he can one, trust them and two, follow their orders. once he decides that, he's the ultimate soldier; he bleeds loyalty which makes him vicious when that loyalty is taken for granted
he isn't naive or bubbly or insecure; he's an incredibly smart and aware soldier. he's aggressive and bloodthirsty and loyal and intuitive and i love him so much

feel like theres a balance to strike between "people putting guidelines to being a christian (you need to read your Bible everyday, you need to need to never miss church, you should never be anxious... etc.) and saying that not doing them is sinning is wrong" and "you DO need to grow in your faith and be consistent"

Just watched all of candle obscura circle of needle and thread because I think brennan Lee mulligan is cool
actual point of the post under read more bcuz I was typing and then realized oh no this is getting a bit long
I have to say I genuinely believe Sean thought that Marion was going to survive the encounter w/ the mother, like first of all because of Brennan playing Sean w/ that one convo of like "Hey remember u r valuable inherently and ur amazing and I love u and I been to make sure u put urself first if anything happens" (and oooooh God I'm just realizing he didn't, did he? Sean wanted Marion to put himself first so he could survive this horrid horrid thing, and he was this close, but only because he didn't put himself first did he die ok ok cries) trying to ensure that Marion wouldn't mess around and would get himself out of danger if need be and also because he put his mom in Marion's house, and like Marion said he doesn't have anyone to go home to, he told ppl that's where his mom was its not like he was trying to hide her at Marion's house, and u don't put someone u love who's just been in a horrible place in a house that no one's going to discover her in, especially if u think ur not surviving, I think Sean put her there bcuz he thought Marion would come back and help take care of her cause Marion is a good guy (unlike he thinks he is), also I don't think Sean particularly likes the creature that he strikes a deal with, because we see him say that he was upset at what he thought was Kingsley earlier for being like I get how u feel I had a sister that passed and wanting to kill him for that but that was all the monster, and the monster continues on like that!!! It's whole thing with Sean is "we are the same, help me with my stuff I help u with urs" even in the last battle after he's made the deal tho, he isn't actually trying to help the monster, sure he brings Marion there but he doesn't sacrifice him to the mother, he goes after Jean! Who is not involved with it at all, and then he slinks off into the shadows, to not do like anything until auntie Bea comes to him!! He dies and he's happy and he sees his ma, and mentions not being a gardener and the world not needing him, but Marion is a gardener, I can't imagine Sean being happy with Marion being taken out of the world, because Marion makes it better, in the end Sean is just concerned with keeping his end of the deal, not the monsters goals, probably just to make sure his moms safe!!!

HENLO who is Inquisitor Yumi kissing in the absence of the Old Man TM? Or did you mentally transplant Raymond there as a funky little OC?
Honestlyyyy!!!!! like is that even really Yumi with out her old man boytoy xDDD
but nah this is just a little appearance swap, i'm basically playing my canon inquisitor, Mai, but with Yumi's face xD so she's romancing sera and getting hot elf wife pussy (but i also get to make an inquisition with her aesthetic, using falon'din vallaslin, golden eyes, and creepy magic)
but if i did write Yumi into Thedas, it would have to be in Kirkwall cause that's where my Mortuary Asssistant/DA2 au takes place :3c I have Raymond as a blood mage chantry brother, who takes care of final rites for the departed and also maybe uses them for blood magic in a convoluted scheme to keep himself safe from a powerful demon that's pursuing him.... Yumi would be a lively young elf turned abomination thanks to his antics :33333

hella idk what to send to you for aftg im either bored or annoyed and I don't wanna just say bad things about it 😭 like that's just rude and yall obviously like it I DONT WANNA BE SOME DEBBY DOWNER MDMWKEM
I looked at the anti aftg tag too to see if I could intermingle there and last I checked it was a mix of fans obsessed with the series and haters being just a tad harsh imo, so i couldn't even do that RIP. I'm so lonesome in what is maybe a whole group of people gaslighting me 😔👊
honestly ive said this before and i always have to tread a very fine line with it because this isn't me saying it's OKAY or like. promotable. but i do think to an extent that aftg's problematicness is actually an aspect of what draws people in a lot. like the characters and their reactions to things feel real for who they are, what they've been through and the environments they were raised in if that makes sense? and then you go in the anti-aftg tag and it's just again and again 'they said THIS thing and acted THIS way in response to THIS scenario and it was PROBLEMATIC' and like. yeah. outside of the internet bubble you're in people do actually do that. like that behaviour exists. it IS problematic, well done. you pointed at a wall and called it a wall. but like? in real life people - PARTICULARLY deprived, traumatised people that typically don't ever get therapy or community or someone telling them why something is bad - DO act this way. ive said half of my love for andrew is literally just because he took an awful backstory and let it make him a complete cunt and ive NEVER seen a character do it as shamelessly as him before. and yeah there's the argument for how it's never resolved in the book where nora ties it with a bow and points at the bad behaviour so the readers can go 'see, this is wrong' and we all clap, but idk it just for me feels that when people point at the aftg characters and go problematic! problematic! problematic! it's like they're missing the point a bit.
the point being? that we need to be putting WAY more heat on the author. i really dislike her and a lot of her writing choices and her insistance of using slurs that aren't hers to reclaim and just because it happened to make the characters feel just that bit more authentic i can still acknowledge that she CLEARLY wrote it without characterisation in mind and just added all that problematic shit anyway. like i never get why there's so little focus on nora's writing decisions and thousands of posts just fucking CRUCIFYING the characters themselves and 'let's explain in detail why this behaviour is Morally Reprehensible and they should be Locked Up Forever'. like if u want to focus on the characters so bad and pretend they're the sole reason why aftg is Problematic and Bad then why is it so hard to acknowledge that someone raised the way they were might have some misinformed, ignorant beliefs. idk lol

I may just be delirious but I kind of feel like there's something there about some of the most traumatic events in Arakawa's life arguably stemming from/being made worse by being loved too much.
Like, Toshio's death, right. The death of a parent is always always going to be traumatic, particularly when your other parent is abusive, but I feel like being there, being the first to the scene, made it so much worse. Especially when it should've been a good memory.
Non-zero chance I'm just projecting because I was there for my own father's death and I was around Arakawa's age at the time, but it's like... it did have very specific life-long effects, didn't it... the way he keeps coming back to Peking duck and talks about it like he's had it before when he can't even bring himself to eat it unless he's with family (and indeed, never did, up until right before he died)...
And then there's his former patriarch. Of course, he seemed to see Arakawa as more of an object--fully under his control and something to be thrown away at the first sign of autonomy. But I feel like, before then, Arakawa must've been his "favorite," if he was willing to arrange a marriage between his daughter and Arakawa. Which I expect is what made his reaction when Arakawa told him he was (technically) having an affair with Akane and wanted out of the family that extreme in going as far as to send men after Akane and Ichiban.
The last one I can immediately think of is not exactly traumatic for him, though it is traumatic For Me so I'm counting it, but it's of course what we were talking about with Jo hesitating so much at the thought of killing Arakawa that he passed up the chance to save him.
I Dunno I Am Delirious but... there's a pattern somewhere in there... Anyway. Uh. "Happy" Father's Day am I right
happy fathers day :]]]]

Depression/PTSD recovery is wild because you could be doing greater than you've ever been in your life but then one small thing happens that reminds you of "that time" and suddenly all of the past emotions flood back into you and you feel like you're back to being the kid who's crying and shaking in the corner wondering if the people closest to you would be so much happier without you

Saturday Citations: E-bike accident spike; epigenetics in memory formation; Komodo dragons now scarier
An update of tech news shared specifically for the e-bike article. Some of my youngers think its a viable/reliable mode of transpot, and it may well be considering the rising cost of existing . But, do you have any idea what its like trying to convince a 20something of the absolute need for head gear? Not to mention, don't recharge it in the house or anywhere near it, that way its a controlled burn.

lifts shilo up again. gestures to him dramatically. he spent a large part of the first episode insisting that he wasn’t purposefully dominating anyone and yet, once it stopped serving his goals, he stopped accidentally dominating people. i call this the momma’s boy politician move where, when theres like three people in the world who can call you on your bullshit, you get to use scary vampire magic powers on whoever you want as long as you dont admit thats what youre doing. deny deny deny giving you that sliver of control over a life youre otherwise powerless to direct. making it easier for people who dont know you to think that youre sweet and soft and innocent and pure. forgive the bite of venom - he doesnt know what he’s doing. he’s naive, and stupid, and doesnt know how the powers he has grown into his whole life have worked. he doesnt even know what the word manipulate means, promise, ignore the ink stains on his hands
