Plant photo dump. Hoya Carnosa Tricolor is thriving with her color and new leaf. My Wayetti is doing okay as is the Australis Lisa, just not doing much. Crassula is still happy and growing tall. Oddly enough with it being in just that planter and not an actual good one with drainage, it's happy. I'm really curious as to what the root system looks like because when I originally put it in there, there wasn't much. I didn't expect anything to really happen with it but I'm happy it has. My Red Moon's leaf is showing my some good signs of color but it still has yet to unfurl, which is a reoccurring issue for her. The additional humidifier hasn't seemed to help. I'll probably keep a damp paper towel wrapped around it tomorrow like I had to last time. Props to my Alocasia BV just because. I already mentioned there is a new leaf on the way but she has come a long way. Alocasias do not acclimate well when I bring them home, or at least I haven't mastered it yet. I think I was down from 10 to 3 leaves in a very short time span. But the new leaves she has produced continue to increase in size and now quantity without losing another one (yet) like usual.

I have tomorrow off from work and although all I want to do is sleep, I'm finally going to set up my propagation tub. My last PROP LIST: White Princess, Silver Sword, and White Knight Philodendrons. My White Wizards leaf is a half moon! I want to wait as I've heard it's not best to prop right after that although I know others say that it is. And yes I'm waiting on my PPP. I'd like to have at least two leaves on it and with that second leaf having to be the mostly pink one, I don't think it's the best idea. - Twitch Malto

I love how dedicated she is to her family and cares for them. Her strive to work hard to keep them safe like her determination to find a way out of the bunker when they get locked in for the first time is crazy. I think Hashtag getting taken into GHOST HQ really kickstarted her need to protect her siblings and family as she was so worried for Hashtags safety. Ngl the way she uses her wing blades (?) dual handed and her instincts in leading her family in the finale really reminds me Leo from TMNT, perhaps not all Leo’s but a few like 2012 and 2018-2020 (movie) Leo. I really think she took to Bee’s training a bit better then Thrash did and definitely used every little bit she did and inferred in that final battle. 

- Thrash Malto

I like Thrash, he’s a silly dude, I just find the whole episode with Swindles very difficult to understand. Okay so they played a mock battle (AvD) and that somehow lead to being insecure about how much Dot and Alex like you? My guy you just destroyed part of the house from game, its reasonable to not want giant robots inside the very much not robot-sized house. I don’t see the point in having that tent in the yard when theres a whole ass barn that the Malto’s decided to make more home-y and like an actual room for you. Its not a giant deal if you can’t go in Mo’s room but you can still talk to her from the window if she hasn’t come down yet.

I kinda think he might have some separation anxiety and that might be why he doesn’t like being separated from Mo that much but it was completely reasonable to not want them inside the house.

- HashTag Malto

Honestly watching her get easily distracted by the tablet while searching for an alt-mode really makes me think she could have ADHD (not just because of that but definitely feels like one indicator). I like the idea that she’s able to hack through the wifi which makes a lot of sense for bots to be able to do, like BV Soundwave on the satellite.

I love all the allegories in this show, really puts things into a perspective thats not technically real-life so its easier to see the problem, emotions and understanding of things when its not connected to you. When it’s connected to you then it feels more personal, thats why people don’t like to watch shows that could talk about topics that they deal with sometimes. I love the allegory they used the Transformers to show even some little ways that racism still exists even if its not the systemic side of the problem. The way the portray HashTag and the other bots when they find the ‘Transformers Go Home’ graffiti really shows how it doesn’t matter if you’re born there, if people view you as different they’re going to deem you not worthy of being there, as well as masking it like with things like ‘oh it’s directed towards Decepticons’ but everyone really knows that it isn’t and that’s blatantly a terrible thing to say regardless if it was “supposed” to directed towards one group of people (Decepticons) in a certain demographic (Cybertronians/Terrans).

I also love the allegory of found family the use in the same episode. Like how Robby stands up to Steven for making rude comments about the Terrans and how they aren’t “actually his family.” Robby stood up for the Terrans because they’re his siblings regardless of age or species, which ties back to the racial undertones of the episode as its so common for others to make comments about interracial families if its found family or just a mixed family that may or may not look more like one side then the other.

Making HashTag the one to get hacked by Mandriod makes a lot of sense as her need to protect her family (like Twitch) is strong and it shows that even in the pursuit of protecting the people you care about you can end up hurting them. Granted she was being hacked and controlled but it was her drive to protect that made her decide to get on the plat form and confront Mandriod. In the pursuit of protection, unexpected revelations and plan changes from outside factors can lead to hurting the people you love the most even if that wasn’t your intention or by your doing.

I love the understanding she has with Starscream, just in the few minutes if not hours of being controlled and forced to feel alone she was able to connect it to how the majority of victims feel while being abused, hurt and alone. She, unlike a good amount of bots throughout the franchise had high enough empathy levels to understand and connect to Star. I love that she listened to him and validated his feelings. Its one thing to hear someone tell you how they feel or what they’re thinking but its a completely different thing to listen, and Hashtag listened. (Literally almost cried at that scene Star deserves so much).

- JawBreaker Malto

He’s a real sweet heart and using him to make another allegory is perfect. The entire episode “Outtakes” is about him asking the other bots how they picked their alt-modes “because he wants it to pick the perfect one for him the first time.” While that sentence sounds just like he might be lazy and doesn’t wanna keep changing to find one that works best or is a perfectionist trying to get it just right, it actually is a better allegory for Gender Identity and finding what title you think fits you best. Through the episode he asks everyone how they ‘knew it was for them’ or how they picked it. The big thing Elita said was “listen to your spark, it will tell you when you find it.” Which is basically an elder gay telling a younger generation they’ll know in their heart when they find it.

All jokes aside, in the allegory the search for a “perfect alt-mode” is the same as the search for the perfect gender identity/pronouns and gender understanding in one’s self. JawBreakers search for an alt mode is like a queer persons search for a title or definition to understand who they are. Like a searching for sub-identities under main umbrellas. A Flier isn’t always a Seeker but a Seeker is always a Flier, its like trying to find which model plane you are compared to others, trying to find advice on how to pick which one best fits you.

I honestly didn’t think the dino-alt would stick with JawBreaker, it just didn’t seem like him to me but with little amount of episodes they could make I understand the need to give him one before the finale.

To me, giving JawaBreaker an alt-mode is kind of a double edged blade. The concept of using alt-modes as a form of gender identity is really interesting and using JawBreaker as a way to explore that 1) giving him an alt can represent the people that did end up finding an identity that fit them and how they feel but also 2) it takes away any possible rep for queer people that don’t have an ‘identity’ suitable to them. Let me explain: I use the term identity as a substitute for the whole explanation’al mess that is finding ‘gender terms’ that have a definition (transwoman, someone who identifies as a woman without necessarily being AFAB) that feels like them and similar to how they experience life in their vessel.

My “2)” point is that giving JawBreaker an Alt mode is giving rep to queer people that were able to find an ‘identity’ while also taking that away from queer people that struggle to find what fits them. Of course representation is still representation and its nice to see it even if it can’t exactly go both ways, which is fine.

Love them, very silly. They’re very smart and I love how they were a direct allegory for a different aspect of some queer experiences. While there’s people that know how they identify and what to call their feeling, and there are others that struggle with finding that, theres some that don’t think about it (like me) and some that don’t actively search for a term even if they want a title for it. NightShade didn’t know they’re identity fell under Nonbinary until they met Sam (love sam).

Not only that but how the creators continued the queer identity alt-mode theme with NightShade and how they picked theirs. At first NightShade felt already complete with how they were and didn’t feel like they needed an alt-mode (which is valid, and with the allegory its still valid because some people might not want/like ‘identity terms/labels’) but the creators also added the layer of self expression and how an ‘alt-mode’ can be another way to express yourself through their conversation with Truantulas.

I like NightShade’s pick I just don’t care for how they designed it. For any bird alt-mode honestly AirRazor’s feels like the best kinda bird design (not including the cassetticons).

okay so essentially, drake and kendrick met, drake asked kendrick to open for him on tour. then kendrick featured drake on his next album. all this was waaaaaayy back in 2011. then in like 2013 kendrick was featured on big sean's song control right and he disses a bunch of rappers, drake included. nobody really cares bc like. that happens all the time and they're still friends yk lmao. EXCEPT drake who gets all butthurt, but who cares.

so fast forward to this past october, drake released a new album, and on one of the songs he features j. cole, who refers to himself, drake, and kendrick as "the big three", as in they're like the three best rappers currently. then, in march, kendrick is featured on future's song "like that" and he says "motherfuck the big three, it's just big me".

then on april 19th, drake drops two diss tracks. the first one is "push-ups" which is just a general diss, and the second one was posted on instagram and was called "taylor made freestyle" where he disses kendrick for featuring on her song bad blood and also says kendrick probably won't respond to his diss track for another week so that he doesn't have to compete with the drop of taylor's new album. the part that REALLY pissed me off personally was that the second of the two opens with a verse using AN AI IMITATION OF TUPAC (the fucking nerve of this guy), and the following verse was an ai imitation of snoop dogg (which says a lot bc why did he have to use ai??? snoop's still alive ??? he could have just featured him ????? 💀). that song had to be taken down from instagram within hours because tupac's estate threatened legal action bc he didn't get consent to do an ai imitation of him.

this is where it starts to get interesting. on april 30th, kendrick responded with a track called euphoria. my personal favorite part was when he responded to drake's allegation that he'd wait to release a response so he wouldn't compete with taylor swift by saying, "y'all think all my life is rap? that's hoe shit, i got a son to raise, but i can see you don't know nothing about that". he also calls him out for never talking about black issues, putting on a fake accent when he raps, trying to act like he's tough (he grew up as a privileged kid in the canadian suburbs and was a child star), using ai in taylor made, etc. he also says drake shouldn't have any right to say the n word anymore (not bc he's biracial, but bc of his misogynoir and the fact that he essentially profits off of US gang culture and stereotypes while not having any experience in that community or ever saying anything about black issues or struggles). here's some of the lyrics:

then, on may 3, kendrick released a second (very short) response called "6:16 in la" where he alleges that drake's team is leaking information to him and saying that drake deserves to be taken down (OVO is drake's label).

So Sidious still does the visions on the temple once the veil of the dark side is ripped, but this time he shows them alternate realities of their worst nightmares and he lets them change it- so the worst moments of their life and they can change them(in the diffrent reality so not effecting themselves)- of course this always somehow leads to themself dying but when lava hisses Vader welcomes that. He watches the faceless Keobi walk away (like a censor box over where his eyes would be but he has no face just skin and isntead of saying censor the box says enemy) then he walks out to the burning Vader and all the Jedi watch as Vader bends down to talk

okay sorry to go on about this again but I’m gonna expand on my tags a little:

Wood chopping is HARD. It’s sweaty and tiring work. An axe isn’t light, and you’re constantly swinging it up and over your head. You also have to move the logs you want into position. Then you have to carry the chopped pieces back, like we see up above.

Chopping enough wood to fuel a fire can take hours, depending on how long you want that fire to burn.

In BVS Alfred would have been anywhere from 65-70. I think Jeremy Irons was 67? That’s the age where maintaining muscle gets hard. Strength starts to decrease unless it is deliberately maintained.

You have to be flexible, powerful, AND accurate to successfully chop wood. If the blade is tilted wrong or the swing isn’t fast and strong enough, you end up with half-split wood and an aching shoulder.

We don’t see Alfred unsuccessfully split any wood at all, though granted the scene is fairly short. I watch a professional chopper (is that the title?) on TikTok and even he has to re-swing a couple times every now and then.

Alfred does it in a vest!!! A vest!!!!! Crazy work.

This is 100% something Batfleck could do in five minutes (we see him do sledgehammer exercises during the workout scene) but it’s also something Alfred clearly will not ask him to do. Despite him being old enough where, if he was anyone else, it’s probably be wise to dial it back down….

A wood burning fireplace in such a modern and glassed home is a fascinating contrast to me. Alfred bringing in rustic chopped wood into a minimalist monstrosity with his retro-style leather jacket…..hmmm

Some other implications from this scene: there’s a self sustaining/isolation component being conveyed here. Alfred could simply buy firewood. But he doesn’t. He could buy a chopping attachment. But he doesn’t, he chops by hand. He is chopping the wood to build a fire for HIMSELF, by all appearances. Fascinating.

So I watched the Justice League movies...

Not entirely sure why, considering I did not enjoy Man of Steel or Batman v Superman. But I wanted something to watch while I was crocheting, and there it was. After finishing the original theatrical version by Whedon -- which I didn't think was THAT bad -- I was so curious about the Snyder cut that I watched it in chunks. I don't think I got much out of it in terms of expanding my DC knowledge, but as a video editor, I found it fascinating to see so much of the same movie with such different executions.

Overall? Both films are mid. I would say that the Snyder cut is better, as it fixes several problems with the Whedon cut -- but at the same time it introduces new problems, such as an unforgivable runtime. The ideal version of the movie is honestly somewhere between the two cuts -- and frankly, that ideal version would probably still just be okay.

Both versions of the film are leagues better than both Man of Steel and Batman v Superman. This mainly comes down to the characters, who are actually charismatic in this movie and show signs of life. It's not a complete chore to sit through it, and you do become invested in things as they go along.

Some of the cast is excellent -- Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, and Ezra Miller as Barry Allen (I know they suck but the performance was good).

The Bad! Both Versions

The story doesn't follow well off BvS, at all. The movie wants you to believe that Superman was a great symbol of hope for the entire world, but a large part of the plot in BvS was that people were terrified of Superman. The Whedon cut also wants you to believe that Clark and Bruce were good friends, when they only knew each other for five minutes.

Also, the DCEU is just fundamentally broken. It feels like this film wants to jump straight to what Marvel didn't get to for a decade. These characters barely know each other -- you have to earn these kinds of relationships and stakes and massive plot moments. The groundwork simply isn't laid for this story to be satisfying.

Steppenwolf is an underwhelming villain, and he so rarely interacts with the main characters that he doesn't really feel like a threat.

The core characters are still just really bland -- Ben Affleck's Bruce Wayne, Henry Cavill's Clark Kent, and Amy Adams' Lois Lane.

The Good! Whedon Cut

For the most part, I prefer the color grading of the Whedon cut. Sometimes the lighting is too flat and doesn't have much depth, but I appreciate that the movie is allowed to have color.

Bruce had a nice moment with Barry, telling him to just save one person and that he would know what to do after that. I was sad to see that gone in the Snyder cut.

The Bad! Whedon Cut

Things just aren't explained. It's never to the point where you can't follow along, but watching the Snyder cut really drove home how many basic things simply aren't elaborated on. The mother boxes aren't explained. Cyborg gets the bare minimum, and that's it. It's like the speedrun version of the story.

A lot of the humor doesn't work. A few moments here and there did -- Flash saving one truck while Superman moves an entire apartment building made me laugh -- but when every character turns into a joke machine during moments that are supposed to be serious, it doesn't work.

Superman's upper lip. I know it's a meme at this point, but it really does look so bad. It's so distracting.

The Good! Snyder Cut

Things are given proper explanations! It feels like a full movie here.

Cyborg actually gets to be a character in this one. Honestly, he's probably the best character with the most complete arc.

The group feels much more like a proper team. There's even brief moments to explore some of their individual dynamics.

Instead of every character being a joke machine, Barry is more clearly the comic relief character, with everyone else only getting an occasional zinger. This work so much better and actually suits the tone of the movie.

The Bad! Snyder Cut

This movie has no respect for your time. It is four hours long for absolutely no reason -- it could be and should have been three hours. Many scenes can be cut entirely. Even more can be significantly trimmed down. You're frequently given repetitive info, or moments that just aren't necessary. The overall pace of the movie is slow and methodical, with lots of slow motion. But not every scene needs this. This is by far what drags the movie down the most.

The soundtrack is awful. Many scenes have grating guitar noises that don't suit the tone whatsoever, and any time Wonder Woman shows up there's an ethereal wailing sound that the captions called "ancient lamentation" -- it got old fast.

The movie is incredibly desaturated and visually unappealing. I understand that it suits the tone he was going for, but as Cosmonaut Variety Hour on YouTube said -- if you can't even tell that someone's hair is supposed to be red, it's too much.

The more square aspect ratio also didn't work for me. There were a lot of awkward framings to accommodate it, and it made certain shots feel weird -- especially action shots with multiple people.

I hate Superman's black suit. I hate it so much. He's supposed to be coming back as the symbol of hope -- so he wears all black, instead of his usual bright ensemble? Terrible decision.
