I was watching hotd edits and reading atla fanfics and my brain just exploded
They are variants of each other, their suffering mirrors each other’s
Their awful marriages they were forced into
A royal or high standing family that has some connection to fire, a power or tool they lack
Their one eyed sons who were so kind as children and later grew to be harsh( zuko and todoroki both were able to learn to be kind again and to not lash out or shut down every time they’re upset, Aemond sadly did not learn that)
The absurd amount of blame they get for the way some of their children turned out ( yes they hold some blame, but I’m always hearing about what they did wrong and not hearing nearly enough about what the fathers did wrong, to me those men are primarily to blame; viserys targaryen, ozai and enji todoroki i wish all of you suffered more(ESPECIALLY ENDEAVOR HE DID NOT DESERVES TO JUST LIVE PEACEFULLY HE SHOULD HAVE DIED) Especially because they too were victims and were often doing the best they knew how to do for themselves and their kids even if it wasn’t enough or backfired massively (alicent)
Oh my tragic girllssss

Okay so we jest about a kiss being all it took for Colin to absolutely plummet into his feelings, (as we should it was so very entertaining), but there is also something so sweet and tender and heartbreaking about it.
Colin has been with many women during his travels, and this ill fitting attempt at preforming what he thinks people want from him and what will carve him a place in society has led to all of them being casual. He dose exactly what boys his age talk about, what his older brothers did and told him to do, what he thought would put things in perspective and make them make sense. The casual distance of it all with his caviller attitude was, as Violet said, armour. Armour that is certainly safer than true genuine feelings, especially after the hurt of season one and his feelings of a complete lack of purpose in season two, but not what he actually wants or desires.
Colin is sensitive, he's loving, he's romantic. We can see from his journals how poetically he writes of the woman he was with even in a casual, non romantic setting, and it is a steep difference to how his 'friends' speak of the woman they were with. He questions how something can be so intimate and yet so distant, so lonely, because that's not what he wants. He wants a genuine, bone deep connection. He wants to know the person, he wants to love them and be loved by them, he wants to care, he wants it to be a mutual act of emotion and passion and feeling and tenderness and love.
And he felt more of that from one kiss with Penelope than any woman he slept with in months. And that's only like half of what he realised in that moment. No shit the boy was down bad waking up in sweat and sprawled across his blankets. Who wouldn't be?

thinking more about the psychological aspect of solavellan, and before I start, I'd like to stress that this is NOT CRITICAL of it, I actually think it's what makes part of the dynamic interesting. My word isn't the be all and end all, however, this is just my musings on the topic :] Also, REALLY long post! so, more under the read more lol
From Lavellan's point of view, I would personally struggle to see her trusting another lover or close one again for a long time, if ever again. I don't really think people ever talk about the real impact of the things she goes through, or what solas put her through, and the hurt as a result of it. The relationship is never defined between the two of them, it's always spoken about in vague undetermined words from their companions and poetic elvish between the two of them. Are they lovers? companions? partners? it's really up to the player. Leliana says that "you were close", Sera says Lavellan is "in it." Vhenan means home, heart, it's not a word said lightly imo and he tells you he loves her by their second kiss. It's never an official thing, so how secure can Lavellan truly feel?
This could go both ways when it comes to the break up. Crestwood, as a scene, is so interesting to me because the first portion seems like a man brought to his knees by weakness for the woman he loves. The two of them never cease to touch, fingers entwined, shoulders brushing, skin to skin. It's so reminiscent of how Lavellan matches his Hallelujah cadence. They're two parts of a song singing together. It's a gorgeous scene and it's understandable how so many are angry at how it ends because the whiplash between how it starts and what it leaves you with is severe. Imagine this from lavellan's shoes.
You're desperately in love with someone at odds with your people, who is wonderful and enticing and smart. Loving solas feels like loving the whole world, like being free and connected with the stars. But you don't know what this is. And, if you thought you did, how far can you presume? Is Lavellan always on edge, scared to love him deeper and richer than he loves her? or is she in a false sense of security, assuming his affection is forever hers. So when he not only breaks away your faith and trust in your history, plus potentially the vallaslin, she is clearly deeply upset. This isn't a minor fact that simply can be swept aside. The vallaslin is important. And Solas, even with the best intentions, has hurt her. He knows it and there's a reason why he apologises (bc he wimped out on the real truth). How much more does he know about her people that he has refused to tell her or kept from her by omission? Can you imagine the embarrassment, the utter humiliation of that secret? how many memories of them together where she replays his distaste for her people in her mind, knowing that he has access to knowledge that could change her perception of her past? Its ALOT. and thats even before the breakup.
Solas is not kind about the break up. It's rushed (impulsive to me) and doesn't do their connection justice. His composure cracks in places and it's very unlike him. It absolutely blindsides the player, so imagine being in Lavellan's place, AFTER THE VALLASLIN? personally, I wouldn't have been able to function. I half suspect that a sad, calm Lavellan is also in shock or disassociation. Because how else do you cope? The lack of communication between them alone is enough to raise my eyebrows. He promises answers. He confides that she saw through his mask and doesn't tell her what was real, and what was fake. He has given her a kernel truth whilst keeping her in the dark. Everything he told her could be a false, imaginary polite mask or it could be the truth. Where does it end? Where does he begin? Where does she stand?
I don't know if everyone has experienced what it's like to be ghosted or for a friend to simply disappear one day, but it changes you. I say this as someone who has both been avoidant as well as anxious, but you never recover. Someone disappearing like that makes you doubt any reassurance that people won't just evaporate from your life. So when Solas just disappears, the game's single conversation with Leliana feels a little lacking to me. I understand that they can't really dedicate a lot to it, I get that, so I'd like to fill it in. At first, it's search parties. Solas wouldn't just leave her like that. He promised her answers. He started another mural just before they left for corypheus. He didn't intend to just leave, surely.
Days, weeks and months pass. The question is worse than the truth. Is he dead? Did he use them? Was he being truthful when he spoke to her in those ruins, or another polite mask he could hide behind? Is it better if he's dead or better than he didn't deem her worthy enough to even say goodbye? We, as the players, obviously know this isn't true, but she doesn't know that. Does your lavellan assume the worst and be overcome with grief that her one love, her heart, her home, was nothing more than a lie of omission? or is there anger there at his betrayal of her trust once more? I seriously doubt it was easy to forget or dismiss. That kind of disappearance ruins your trust with people. Something. Anything would have been enough.
Again, this is all my opinion on how these emotions would play out and DEFINITELY NOT canon nor do they have to be! But I seriously struggle to see how Lavellan could even come to heal from these wounds within even a two year time skip. By the time of trespasser, almost everyone has left her side. She's almost entirely alone again, save Cullen and Josie (and leliana if she's not divine). And thats okay: they all have rich lives to return to. But that must just reaffirm to her that no one will stay. She is alone. How does she trust again?
And then there is Fen'harel. Lavellan's reaction to fen'harel has always lacked the fear I kind of hoped would be there? I mean this isn't just a minor deity, this IS THE antagonist of her entire faith. I'm assuming that she's lost hope in the gods, even though it's confirmed to her that they're real, but that message has been a part of her since childhood. So learning that he is the dreadwolf, again not from him, but from the fragments of his past must cut her deeply.
Her love was never who he said he was, she knows this, but who is the real man? She's never known him in a context where he can truly show her. Her love is fragmented between each identity he holds. Her trust that he is who he said he is fragments with it. The knowledge that not only has he been watching the inquisition, her, for years without a single hint that he lives or is okay must destroy her. Could you imagine how insignificant you must feel to him? And he essentially affirms to her that yes, in the greater scheme of things, his love and hers are inconsequential. They cannot matter to him because he cannot strive from his path. His indulgence was a mistake. And it's undeniably cruel. I love solas and I cannot argue that he was kind to Lavellan because he wasn't. To me, there is no way to see his actions as kind. Understandable, absolutely and definitely without malicious intent.
Lavellan learns that he loved her just as deeply, if not more. He loved her with all his heart and it did not matter. She changed him and it has only brought him more pain. He loves her too much to even allow her near him, to even give himself that weakness. They are apart from each other in an endless distance, only the two of them in the world. No one else.
Obviously, each Lavellan is different, and I've made a lot of assumptions, but I think it's worth considering. How do you love someone again after all of that? How much can you rebuild your faith after what you have learnt. Lavellan has loved a "god" (I know he's not a god, but for all intents and purposes, he has the power of a god and wears an evanuris crown.) and in turn, a god has loved her. And he left her with one last embrace that will leave its mark on her forever, then he leaves once more. Lavellan is alone.
Each love after is met with suspicion, distrust and comparison. Lavellan is entirely changed. How many pieces of her can be taken away until she is no longer herself? Each person wears a new mask she cannot determine. Where do they begin? Where can she find herself?
How lonely it must be to love someone like Solas and be at the other side of an endless distance.

I really hope people haven't forgotten that Grace is actually pretty smart and helpful during class trials. Like this woman spent half the time brain dead from getting zapped (a third time) and then woke up to drive the trial forward along with Wolfgang and Damon. She was the one who guided us to the answer of how Cara was killed through the bucket mechanism, and was even the reason we realised there was a mechanism used for the murder at all. She's very much capable of coming up with logical deductions on the spot and actually be correct, as well as remain relatively calm and composed while doing so.
When she immediately latches on to the first person with even a crumb of a chance to be the killer, when she disrupts the investigation by unintentionally hiding potential clues, when she immediately resorts to hostility over being suspected herself and allows that grudge to cloud her judgement later-- that's not her at her A-Game, nor is that her just being stupid. That's her reasoning being shaken by grief. Her erratic behaviour during Chapter 1's trial contradicts her behaviour during Chapter 0's trial, and that's because this time the victim isn't a lifeless doll based on a person she's never met and has no connection to; the victim this time is the man she's grown the closest to, the first person in our group she met and someone she allowed herself to be vulnerable with in a way she wouldn't be with anyone else. The one to give her hope in her moment of paralysis induced by her near death experience and the only one to actually reach out to her in a way she'd actually reach back. The person she thought was vulnerable, unable to leave his bed, and who she had to find dead after walking out the door and leaving him behind despite it all. She's not stupid or incapable of making rational deductions, nor is she bad at making sound arguments or reasonable accusations-- she's literally just guilt-ridden and grieving.

thinking about the fucked up dynamic of a warden who got anora's support at the landsmeet and then executed her father in front of her before declaring her queen. then, after that, she leads her armies into battle in the name of her father's killer, and honors them in a grand ceremony. she continues to see this person as her life goes on, even coming to visit them in the lands they take after slaying her father's accomplice. and she never wavers in her grace towards them.
the drama.... it's so good....

So I was rewatching Nimona with my Mama
And I don't know why watching movies with other people always makes my brain focus on the little things but this time around my brain was focused on Ambrosius. Mostly because my Mama was super confused about why they put so much weight on his and Gloreth’s names. After she brought that up I noticed a lot of little things like how the announcers chose to introduce him as “the most anticipated knight of a generation”. Then I remembered the other things like how Bal was described by the Director as “the biggest threat we’ve faced in generations” and how “thankfully we have a descendant of Gloreth to lead us”. After that, we see everyone looking to Ambrosius to fix the situation as soon as possible while knights like Todd consistently undermine him. And the Director is encouraging him to stay strong the second she senses a moment of weakness. And that all results in this
Tumblr media
This poor man has had the weight of the entire kingdom on his shoulders for the whole movie. What's supposed to be an exciting and happy day is overshadowed by the reminder that the entirety of the kingdom expects him to be the best knight simply because he is a direct descendant of Gloreth. He watched as his boyfriend “killed” the Queen and then chopped off his arm out of reflex and was probably under the assumption that he killed him. When he finally does show up again he’s screaming at a kid about “killing everyone” while said kid is calling Amrbosius his “nemesis” and then they go on a rampage and destroy the institute. And after that, he steps up to find Bal because let's face it if Todd was in charge Bal wouldn’t come back alive. No one says things like “Treat Ballister like the Queen killing Monster he is” “I’ll hunt him down. I’ll make him hurt I’ll-” With good intentions at heart, he wasn't gonna say “I’ll throw Bal a tea party” You know it was going to escalate and the next step was pretty obvious.
So he now has the entirety of the institute pressuring him to find Bal and is constantly reminded that the safety of the kingdom rests on him. The next time he sees Bal he’s LITERALLY KIDNAPPING SOMEONE. We have the a little moment when we get to see inside Ambrosius’ head and we can see that everything it taking a toll on him he’s stressed and conflicted and freaking out. And the Director knows this and tells him to “stay strong”. And after that, Bal is confronting him in front of all the knights pulling the rug out from under him and putting even more stress on him. He has two paths he could take and both are uphill battles. He could let Bal and Nimona go free and arrest the director with literally no proof which no one would believe. Or he could arrest Bal and Nimona which is unfortunately the easier path.
Cause think about it there is concrete proof that Bal killed the Queen and he just found out that Nimona is a “monster” something they’ve been trained to fight since they were kids. So he makes the first easy decision since the begging of the movie and decides to arrest Bal. And the thing that rips my heart out and makes me sick to my stomach is his face. This poor baby looks like he is in physical pain. Nothing about this situation is easy nothing about this situation is okay he looks like he’s about to break down and sob during this entire scene. And if you pay close attention his eyes don't stay on Bal. He is scanning the crowd to ensure no one tries to move to hurt Bal when he knows he’s vulnerable. Even though it doesn’t seem like it he’s always looking out of Bal in one way or another.

they are giving Wim the same treatment as Kaz 🥲 ( creating a great protagonist with a compelling backstory but using him as the only comic relief in the series and making his character growth suffer)

Fiona Gallagher and Debbie Gallagher and their messed up relationship makes me so sick ☹️
They've got a 10 year age difference between them and we know that Monica left for the first time when Fiona was 9, Debbie unborn or still in the womb. That means since Debbie's birth, since even before it, Fiona knew she had to be the one to step up. She had to be the one to take care of everyone. Debbie NEVER got the Fiona that was purely sister, innocent and carefree (to an extent).
She's never going to have the Fiona that Lip and Ian had and she hates it because she's the next oldest. She's the line between 'Sister' Fiona and 'Mom' Fiona (even though Ian hovers on that too). And it's awful, because she was fine with how Fiona was when she was a child, when she didn't understand and all she wanted was someone to take care of her.
Then, as she grew up, she wanted a sister. Not a mom. Fiona barely even knew how to be a mom, considering she barely had one. Especially to a preteen girl. By the time she was that age, she had already been running an entire household. And Lip and Ian didn't have the same problems Debbie did. They didn't deal with periods and boys and school and friends the way Debbie did. Fiona couldn't be a mom to Debbie, but she had also stopped being a sister to her a long time ago.
All that hovering between her two roles, neither of them could manage it. So Debbie drifted to Mandy, and Fiona kept going however she could. Life went on, and their relationship got a little thinner.
Debbie's only actual role model on how to grow up and be a woman was Fiona, who had juggled boyfriends and children and work her entire life. Fiona who had grown up so fast, who'd been taken from her before she even had the chance to get to know her. She wanted to be a Fiona. She wanted to have someone too. So she started getting into boys, into babies. She got pregnant.
Fiona took the mom approach again, they fought. And then they fought again and again and again because neither of them understood each other and because neither of them could be what the other wanted. Fiona couldn't be the sister and Debbie couldn't be the daughter.
All of their trauma, shared and personal, deteriorated their relationship, distorted it, until it was barely recognisable anymore.
When they both grew up a little bit more, when what's done was done and there was nothing to be done about it anymore, they got a little better. Not perfect, not how it used to be, but better. Slightly.
By then, their problem wasn't that Debbie was growing up too fast and Fiona couldn't keep up. It was that Debbie was refusing to grow anymore (understandable to an extent, considering she was a minor) and Fiona wanted her to step up (also understandable to an extent, considering Debbie made the choice to have a child despite everyone saying otherwise- for whatever reasons she did it). To contribute to the house so that even Fiona could build her own life.
They knew that they would be there for each other in those rock bottom moments when life was a 0. But life isn't all 0s, and they couldn't build a relationship in anything above that. THEY LOVED EACH OTHER SO MUCH. But they both fucked up with each other on multiple occasions. 😭 It was neither of their faults, and Debbie Gallagher is not the awful witch everyone claims she is (though she has done many questionable things).
That's the end of my little relationship analysis 🤗🤗 Please tell me what you think of them and how you see them 🙏🙏
