A recount of my trip home
Feel free to skip if you don't want to hear about nice things, or drama, or me being contemplative about life
Got home from NJ/PA at about 4am Monday morning after setting off at 4pm Sunday. I'd intended to drive in the late afternoon because that's when I tend to become fully alert, but I was so tired from the week that I still had to stop and take a nap at a rest area on the way home (and on top of that I set my alarm for a 45 minute nap but never turned it on, so I slept in my car for over an hour and a half).
It was really amazing and good and wonderful and heartwarming to see everyone. Except mom's husband who I nearly attacked like twice while I was there, but that's besides the point. It was really good to see mom and she is actually doing AMAZING and has this new almost glow and energy about her, and she's able to do so many things post-half-successful-transplant that her doctor told her it was miraculous. However, she is so deep in her own depression and stress and pain she can't see it, and she's 62 and never learned to sort out her emotions or mental shit, so she's like ... created this reality that doesn't exist where everyone's against her and wants her abandoned in the hospital -- except the actual people at the hospital who want to get rid of her and send her home.
She got her third chance at a new liver the first full day I was there, which was Wednesday, however after taking her all the way down to the OR for prep, at 2am she was wheeled back up to the room because they decided the liver wasn't going to work for her. Of course neither her nor her husband can see ANY silver lining among the disappointment, and while I can understand that because I have been in such a dark place before (though not because of needing entirely new organs and being in a marriage to someone I hate etc), I still attempted to remind them both that that's the third candidate they had in less than two weeks so the offers are coming in MUCH faster now than they had been before the initial transplant.
Thursday morning, however, after that lack of sleep and the stress of waiting to find out if it would fall through or not followed by the reality that it did fall through, and having to deal with her fuck ass husband and his entire personality and him giving the nurses incorrect information as well as my mom catastrophizing every single thing because she was exhausted and upset, I had to leave despite promising I would stay all day. The need to escape was dire, as I was slipping into panic attack mode and wanted desperately to just get in my car and drive home to Ranger's Rest.
At least my mom "allowed" me to leave because I stressed how much it was all setting me off, telling her it was primarily her husband and the exhaustion, so I went back to my aunt and uncle's place, ate lunch and saw a few cousins and met a few that were born after I moved away which was nice, then I slept for 3.5 hours without moving a muscle. I came back to the hospital that night until mom got her nightly meds then left so I could get some sleep before driving back to my home town to collect some of my stuff and see more family and friends.
Then I stayed up talking with my Aunt until 2am about the insanity that had gone on that morning and was too tired to go back to mom and her husband's house to get my stuff. We agreed he'd take photos of what was left, since I didn't actually leave much, and I could just tell him what I wanted to keep and he'd mail it down to me and throw out the rest. I took the deal so I didn't have to interact with him any more than necessary and so I could sleep more because holy shit, I was so bone tired.
So Friday I skipped stuff collecting and headed down to the shore (later than I wanted because I was dragging ass) to have lunch with another aunt and uncle I hadn't seen. I stayed longer than intended because we were gabbing and it was really nice. I'd planned on making everyone a lasagna dinner when I got back to where I was staying but time got away from me particularly when I met up with Nicole. We hung out for a few hours at Starbucks and in my car in the parking lot and then in her driveway, initially planning on going to look at the ocean but I realized that wasn't as important as just hanging out.
I didn't realize how much I missed my extended family and my friends (or I mean, at least Nicole who was the only one I was able to see as Sarah's son was sick and I couldn't risk picking up extra germs lol) until I saw them again. I managed to keep my shit together but I honestly wanted to weep seeing everyone again. It felt like yeah, I hadn't seen anyone in three years, but also, it felt like I'd just seen them maybe a few weeks ago. It was the most warm and lovely feeling I can remember having in a long, long time. NIkki if you do read this I hope you know I love you and I treasure our friendship so much <3 It's been 28 years since we were in Mrs Gioiella's class together O_O
Tried to see more cousins on Saturday but it just didn't work out with scheduling, plus some of the kiddos were sick and again, I couldn't risk bringing any extra germs around my mom in the hospital (not to mention my uncle is also immuno-compromised and can't risk it either, even with his own grandkids. So I left the cards I'd brought for them with stickers in them and spent the afternoon/evening at the hospital.
Where I had to try my best to talk my mom off her delulu cliff and gently walk her back to reality, which she didn't like and was not receptive to because I wasn't agreeing with everything she said or how she was interpreting things said to her by family members. Went home that night and things seemed better but Sunday morning it was all back on and her husband was present, too. The motherfucker tried to scold me?? Or something?? We were trying to have yet another come-back-from-delulu-land conversation which was making my mom angry, especially because I was being so calm and was using things I'd learned in therapy to try to talk with her. She absolutely hated that. Anyway he came back from pissing or getting coffee or trying to bullshit with the nurses who all know he's full of shit or whatever it was he was doing and was like "I DON'T WANT ANY FIGHTING. POSITIVITY ONLY." and other nonsense because he doesn't know how to be a human being or have actual working close relationships with people. And then he went on about how my aunt (who was being made the scapegoat because A my mom was misinterpreting ENTIRELY what she said to her and B she's the only person who doesn't yes mom's husband to death just to get him to shut the fuck up, and actually challenges him on his bullshit so he hates her) wasn't blood so she doesn't matter and he literally said and I quote, "Her husband never taught her to shut her mouth."
I swear to god I deserve a medal for remaining so calm in that moment, but I very, VERY pointedly made a show of it by closing my eyes, taking deep breaths, and speaking softly when I said things like, "We aren't fighting, we're talking. This isn't about Aunt. We're just talking about feelings." Then I wanted to help by talking to mom's nurse about maybe jotting down notes whenever they came in or a doctor came in to help her remember what was said, because mom feels like she can't do it herself, and her husband again was trying to control me or tell me what to do or whatever by insisting it would never work, don't even bring it up, don't bother the nurses, DON'T BOTHER THE NURSES!!!!!!! Until, when I kept calmly insisting, "Well I'm going to try while I'm here anyway," mom finally spoke up and told him to let me try. Let me try. "Let." As if I'm not almost 37 fucking years old, her daughter, and no relation to his narcissistic ass.
Look. I'll admit I'm grateful that my mom can convince him to pay for things that I/we need down here, like our water, and tires for my car so I could visit, and slipping me money for gas and parking and tolls. I am grateful for that even though I know he's not doing it out of the kindness of his heart. It's still money I didn't have that helped me take the trip and take it safely. But he's a phony piece of shit and I don't think I could handle another visit that involved him, and I was reminded of why I had to move away in the first place by being in both his presence and my mom's presence. I am doing so well right now and I never, EVER would have gotten to this point if I was still there. I'm willing to help my mom divorce him and get her moved down here or something, but even my aunt said it would just be a transfer of her thinking she was helpless and me having to do everything for her, rather than her husband. And before this trip, I thought that wouldn't happen, but now I think that's exactly what will happen. I'll still help her get divorced but she really needs to re-learn how to be independent because she's been crippled by her marriage.
So I left Sunday, got home early Monday, and today (yesterday as of posting?) I had my iron infusion early in the morning. Over six hours of riveting life adventure, and by that I mean receiving steroids and iron via IV and trying to read my book and playing on my phone and falling asleep and sweating my ass off because they keep the room so warm for the people there getting chemo and as much as I can actually chit chat with strangers easily I didn't want to be part of the group that we all found ourselves in trying to make conversation.
Anyway. It was also Kate's birthday so I got her an asshole birthday banner and exactly what she asked for (a Harry Styles coloring book and pack of crayons) and I got us food from our favorite local pizza place after we tried and tried to see how we could make getting Olive Garden from Asheville work with her working a double and me being dead ass tired still. But we had a good dinner and she felt like she had a good day so that's all that matters.
I go back to work tomorrow and I work 5 days in a row so next week I might be full on dead again. I have to remember to take my work keys with me tomorrow afternoon or I'm fucked to close the store. I really want to help my store be successful so I'm motivated to get in there and help us get a system going we can all work well in as we approach the holidays.
Next week is my birthday and honestly no one really ever does much for me on my birthdays so I kinda just ... do whatever on them. I have the day off so at least I can sleep or lounge or whatever as much as I want but otherwise it's just a day I don't really enjoy because I stopped feeling special on my birthday a long time ago. 37 isn't a big deal, just a year closer to 40 and thus towards death. i'm not depressed about it, I just ... I dunno I always just remember the way people I'd make an effort for wouldn't make an effort for me, so it does leave me just a little bummed.
Anyway that was honestly just like a GLIMPSE of my trip and its insanity and joy and misery etc. Thanks, if you made it this far.

I’ve been working for the cute little mam and pop, day-care. This year will mark the second year I’ve been here.
I grow-up with loving parents, and a baby sister. When Y/n was born I felt the natural pull to protect her, and make she was safe at all times. My parents, let me take that brotherly role in her life. My baby sister Y/n was only a year younger than me, so we pretty much did everything together.
When we were in elementary school, I’d walk Y/n to her kindergarten class, and then I’d walk to my first-grade classroom. I honestly can’t believe I still remember that memory.
I walked up the hall and to my classroom door. I had only had these kiddos for about three weeks now, but there were making great progress. And since today was Friday I thought it be cool if I dressed up a little and we had an arts and crafts day.
I looked down at my watch, the digital numbers popping up it read “8:30″. ‘Great I had enough time to pull out all the supplies, and have a few more cups of coffee to keep up with the little munchkins.’
I set my half empty coffee cup on my desk in the front of the classroom, and open the shades letting the morning sun fall into the class room. I pulled out my phone, scrolling through the abundance of playlists on my Spotify account.
This was the only time, when the kids weren’t in my room was, I allowed to listen to my type of music. “Heck yeah, let’s rock baby.” I said as I clicked the most recent playlist.
I set my phone down on my desk and walked around the room. I had a fairly small class this year. I had 2 baby girls that were only about ten months old, but the rest of my class was 2 years, which had the attention span of a Nat, and had the most energy I had ever seen.
Ya, see I love working with this age group. The babies which have to come to day care are the most adorable little girls I had ever seen. Little toes and babbles coming from them as I would change them into their afternoon outfit, or we sit down and eat.
My other kiddos were just having equally adorable. They’d raise their hands for everything, they also asked the oddest of question, but I think what I love most about being with these kiddos every day is that they make me so much happier.
I generally wake up in an over-all happy mood, but the minute my kiddos step into my room. I can feel the joy raise through me, starting at my toes and ending at head. And just like any day, I’m always the first to make it to the daycare. The second person to make their way into the building was my co-teacher. My co-teacher just so happens to be Y/n. She had a thing for being late, but I didn’t mind.
Y/n walked into the classroom, setting her belongings on the rounded desk in the back of the classroom. When Y/n had told me, she had interned to be a part of the daycare I couldn’t help but feel so excited.
Y/n and I’s relationship was prefect damn near unbreakable. Something about having her by my side thirty years later had a great feeling. “Hey big bro!” She said as she looked up after setting her things down on her desk.
“Hey sis, you get enough sleep last night?” I asked knowing she probably didn’t, not with the way those two-year-old ran her ragged yesterday. Y/n and I had a system to how we took care of our class. I’d take Monday with the two-year-old, and then Tuesday I spent with the baby girls, Wednesday I was with the big kids again and then Thursday I was with the babies yet again Friday I’d take the big kids.
Then the cycle would change and Y/n would start with having the big kids Monday. I went over to the paper section, pulling out craft paper, crayons and markers for the kids to play with. “Today if you can’t tell by my amazing outfit, it’s craft day.” I said walking past Y/n desk in the back, as I kicked out the raveling carpet.
I set the paper down at my desk. The day care didn’t open until nine fifteen. “Sis, what may it be?” I said fancying my best London accent, doing things like this made me even happier, it got me in a mood to see my kiddos in the morning.
“Tee time may be nine ten brother.” Y/n said trying her fancy on the old London accent. I got up, quickly turning my playlist off and standing neither my door, other teachers were starting to the same. I waited, and the first child I saw was one of baby girls. Her name was Amber. Her mother said hello handed me her Amber’s bags and then said a short and quick bye-bye to her daughter. “Y/n, Come get amber and bring her to the back room.” I said Y/n came running taking Amber to the back room.
The back room was meant for any kiddos under the age of one year old. It was a quiet space for them, a space dedicated to just them. When I handed Amber off, I heard coo at the Y/n, “Awe, good morning sweetheart.” I heard Y/n say has she walked father away from me and closer to the back room.
The next kiddo was the other sweet baby girl. “Hey, Dean. I like the outfit today.” Said Poppies mother, and she handed me a sleeping poppy, and of course her bag for today. “And look you two match, how adorable.” Poppies mother said before kissing her baby's temple and then walking out the front door. The sun was starting to peak further above the horizon.
I figured since Y/n wasn’t back yet that she was probably putting amber things in the respectful place. I set Poppy down slowly and softly. “Well, the two baby girls are here, you need anything with these two and I’m right outside okay, sis.” I said as I saw Y/n come back from the little kitchenette we had in the back room.
AS Y/n got closer to me, she too noticed the matching outfits that me and Poppy were wearing. “You and poppy match today!” She spoke. Both poppy and I were wearing striped shirts, and dark blue overalls. The only different was that Poppy had a cute little bow in her short hair. “Okay, I’ve got to go out into the classroom and get ready for the other kiddos.” I said to Y/n before walking out of the back room.
When I made it to the door, Justin, Rachel, Cassie, and Paula were standing outside with their parents. ‘Good morning!” As each kid kissed their mothers' cheeks and ran over to me.
after all the parents had left, saying their goodbyes. We all went into the classroom. Like I said before my classroom room size was fairly small. Which I of course didn’t mind.
The kids put all their belongings on the little racks, and ran over. In the morning time we’d sit around in a circle and say one good thing that happened yesterday. I never picked on the kids, I just let the first kid that wanted to go, start us off.
Rachel was the first to start us off. “Yesterday, my mommy and I had ice cream for dessert.” She said her high and squeaky voice, making me smile. “Oh, that sounds awesome! Do you remember what flavor?” I asked sitting down like the kids were. “it was CHOCOLATE!” Rachel screamed the last part. “Oh, that does sounds yummy.” I spoke.
The next kiddo to go was Paula, she started off by saying “When i got home yesterday, I help my daddy make dinner. And we had mac and cheese.” She said rubbing her tummy as she looked back at that not do long ago memory.
Justin interrupted me before I could say anything “Mr. Dean? Where’s miss Y/n?” He spoke. playing with his shoe strings. “That a good question, but remember we have to raise out hand if we are going to ask a question.” I spoke. “I’m sorry.” Justin said.
“To answer Justin question, Miss Y/n is in the back room’ I said pointing towards the door in the back. ‘She’s taking care of the babies today, like I did yesterday.” I spoke.
“Really?” The four kids said in unison. I laughed a little. “Yes, Now Justin would you like to share your good thing?” I asked. “Of course, I want to share Mr. Dean. Yesterday, I helped my sissy with her make-up.” He said putting both his hands on his hips.
I again laughed, another reason why I love working with kids. They are always no matter what so eccentric. “Okay Cassie, what was one good thing that happened yesterday?” I asked. Cassie and I had a rocky start in the begging of class. She was an overly shy girl, and talked softly. But she grew comfortable with me. “Mr. Dean?” She asked getting up from where she had been sitting. “Can I whisper it to you?” She asked.
I just shook my head; she came closer and cupped her hands around my ear. “Yesterday, I told my mommy and daddy I couldn’t wait to come back to class.” She said in a very quiet whisper.
Awe I thought to myself, and said out loud. “I’m glad your excited to come to see me.” wrapping one of my arms around Cassie already small body and hugged her. “Okay kiddos, since today is the last day of the week. We’re are going to arts and crafts.”  I spoke.
“Yay!” Justin said getting up and walking over to the little table. I looked over at Cassie, and smiled. she gave me a short smile and walked over to where Justin was. So, I got up and made sure that Rachel and Paula were walking with me. Once they were all sitting down at the table.
I grabbed the different colored papers, and the crayons and markers. Placing everything in the middle so they would be able to share. "Now kiddos, if you want anything else. I will be at my desks.” I spoke.
I sat down at my desk, trying to figure out anything else that I could do with the kiddos since today was Friday. ‘We could sit down and watch a movie; I could wait for them to do finished with their crafts, and then do another craft all together.’ I thought to myself.
I was pulled out of my thoughts when I heard the back-room door open, “Um, Mr. Dean. I need your help!” Y/n said. The kids rose their heads, but went back to coloring when they noticed it was just Y/n. “Listen kiddos, I have to go help miss Y/n, so just continue doing your drawing.” I spoke. I heard a “Okay, Mr. Dean.”
I walked to the back-room, Y/n walked back through the door, not shutting it. “What’s up Y/n? ” I asked. “I just needed your help, getting them into their afternoon clothes. They both had accidents.” Y/n said walking over to grab Amber and Poppy’s bag.
“Alright then, let's get started.” I said taking Amber’s bag. When I came over to where Y/n and had laid them out on the soft blanket on the floor, Amber had her small hand wrapped around her small ankle chewing softing on her big toes. “Awe sweetie, not that icky.” I said taking her foot from her mouth. Amber’s mother had packed two different outfits, one being a short sleeve shirt that said “Daddy's girl!” in purple glitter with a black skirt. Her second outfit was a long sleeve that had a momma and baby elephant on it, with blue leggings.
I held up either one of the shirts, I know she’s only ten, but I bet her Amber’s mom is letting her choose some sort of her outfits. I held the shirts up and Amber did the thing that most kids her age do which is grabby hands. Amber wanted to wear the elephants, which meant she was pants.
So, I lightly lifted Amber's head to let me put her head in through the hole at the top of the shirt, then I had to grab her arms. Amber had this thing when you changed her cloths. All the sudden she’d become a wiggle worm. Finally, after a few minutes of trying to grab her arms, she let me. I gently put her hands and arms through the holes. Afterwards I put her leggings on and I sat her up in my lap.
“The kiddos out there asked where you were today?” I said catching Y/n attention. “Did they? Awe that’s cute” She said had she lifted Poppy into her lap. “I’ve got them drawing out there, since it’s Friday.” I said “I figured you go easy on since today is Friday. Yesterday I tried to teach them number one through twenty, but it didn’t work out as I planned.” Y/n said laughing a little when poppy babbled into her lap.
“I was thinking that we could let them watch a Disney movie and feed these girls, maybe go for nap time too.” I said lightly bouncing Amber in my lap, and she chewed on her binky. I saw Y/n face contort like it always did when she was thinking.
“I don’t see why not; what movie were you thinking?” Y/n asked. Without missing a beat “Frozen” I said, a little giggle erupted from my younger sister. “Okay, I guess we got a plan then.” She said putting Poppy on her hip, and walking towards the door, so I followed her. “Let’s go Amber!” I said putting her on my hip and walking out of the room.
When I walked out the kiddos were still coloring and drawing. “Alrighty kiddos let’s be done with coloring. Because we are going to watch a movie.” I said All heads turned and looked at me, in the moment you could hear a mouse scurrying across the floor for how quiet it was.
“What movie are we watching?” Rachel said after raising her hand. “Rachel we are watching Frozen!” I said as I put Amber in the high chair. All that could be heard for a few seconds was screams of happiness.
“Alrighty calm down, kids. I want you all to go sit on the carpet in the front of the classroom.” Y/n said as she buckled Poppy in her high chair. “I’ll get the movie started, and you get the babies food.” Y/n said. “Okay.”
I walked in to the back room and grabbed their food. Y/n had finished set-up the movie and it had already started playing the starting credits. She walked back over, and grabbed a fandom one from my hand, and we started to feed the babies.
The kiddos watch the movie in silence, at one point close to when Anna meets Kristoff. The babies were done eating so we took them out of the high chairs and set them down in our laps as we sat behind the kids. When Cassie noticed that we were now on the floor, she turned around, and crawled over to me.
Laying down and resting her head on my thigh. “Are you tired Cassie?” I asked, all I got in response was a hum. I smiled, and brushed her arm. I felt the change in her breathing. I looked over at Y/n. “Cassie is out and so is Amber. Should we call it?” I asked her. She looked down at Poppy. “Poppy is asleep, and I think so is Justin.” She said looking at the kids.
Y/n got up with poppy in her arms. She came over and grabbed a sleep Amber in my arms. And brought them into the backroom. I gently picked up Cassie, she didn’t weight much seeing as she was asleep. I moved her over to the sleep mat, and grabbed her a blanket, before walking over and noticing that the once awake Rachel and Paula were asleep, which made this whole process just so much more easier, Y/n walked out of the back-room and noticed the same thing as me.
Whispering Y/n said “Looks like they did the job for us.” Giggling she picked up Rachel, and brought her over next to Cassie. I picked up Justin, now he weighed more than Cassie, causing me to grunt a little when I picked him up. I heard Y/n giggle a little at me. “Stop laughing at me, he’s heavy then I thought.” I said setting him down. Y/n grabbed Paula and did the same thing with her.
“At least they are all asleep.’ She spoke. ‘I could use a lap.” She said leaning her head against my shoulder. I leaned my head against the top of hers. “How about we just take a little nap since it’s the last day before the weekend.” I spoke. She shook her head.
We waked over to the shades that I had pulled letting the morning sun in, and Y/n pulled them back, and then she slides down to the floor, and sat down next to her and she rested the head of my shoulder, “I’m glad I work with you De.” She said a yawn passing her lips.
“I’m glad you’re here to help, Y/n.” I said patting her knee. I kiss her forehead, something I had done since she was a baby girl. I kissed her forehead every night when it was time to go to bed. “I love you, big brother.” She said before she hugged me tightly. “I love you too baby sis.” Hugging her back.

Month 2 – April 2020
As the weeks went on, you found yourself getting more and more used to remote working. Your boss had made a lunch time finish on a Friday a weekly thing and you were grateful for it. Poe was getting every Friday off, and Rose got to finish at 3pm on a Friday. You and Poe were working round each other better, you’d gotten used to his singing and he got used to you getting up to wander round the room and stretch every hour or so. The novelty of having people around all day had worn off for BeeBee, he would choose to spend an entire day with either Poe or you and lie by your feet for the day. Rose’s idea of doing something each evening had stuck and you had set up a weekly plan of things to do. Movie nights became a Friday night tradition. Rose had ordered relaxation colouring books for each of you and that became your Monday night routine. There was a YouTube marathon on Tuesdays, you’d all found a series to binge together on Wednesdays and you played board games on Thursdays. Poe was teaching you to cook, you could make basic things but he was much better than you were and you’d asked him to help you learn. Rose loved teasing your about how cute you both looked and how domestic it was. Things were still strange but everyone was getting used to it.
Rose and Finn occasionally took walks after work, just the two of them. Poe had just arrived back home with BeeBee. He wandered into the living room and found you sitting on the sofa crying your eyes out. He was by your side in an instant, pulling you into his arms and rubbing your back.
“Sweetheart, what’s wrong?”
“My dad” you sobbed “He has the virus; he’s in the hospital on a ventilator”
“Oh sweetheart, I’m so sorry!” he pulled you tighter “He’ll be fine, I’ve never met a man as strong and stubborn as Han Solo!”
“Mum said he’s really ill, she’s not even allowed to go and see him”
“It’s not fair”
“I just want to go and see mum and hug her”
“I know sweetheart, I know”
Poe held you until you eventually cried yourself to sleep. He pulled you onto him, and grabbed the blanket from the back of the sofa and draped it over you. BeeBee jumped up onto the sofa and lay by your legs. Your body heat and the heat from the blanket lulled Poe to sleep. When Finn and Rose came back a little while later they eyed you suspiciously. The sound of Rose’s keys against the coffee table woke Poe.
“This looks romantic” Finn said
“Far from, I’ve just held her whilst she cried herself to sleep” Poe replied, glaring at his friend
“What’s wrong?” Rose asked
“Han’s got the virus; he’s in hospital on a ventilator”
“Oh my god, when did that happen, is he alright?”
“I don’t really know” Poe shrugged “She was really upset, I only got the basic information from her”
“I’ll phone Leia” Rose replied “To get more information but also to check on her”
Finn nodded “That's a good idea”
“I should text Ben.” Poe said “Then we need to work out what to do here. I don't want to put her to bed before dinner, I know she’s exhausted herself crying but she needs food in her system, as much as she probably won’t want it”
“We can make a start on dinner, wake her when it’s ready and make sure she eats at least a little then she can get some sleep” Finn said
Poe managed to lift you off him enough to move, he laid your head on a pillow and made sure the blanket still covered you. BeeBee got up and moved along the couch so he could snuggle against your stomach. Poe headed to the kitchen and made a start on dinner with Finn’s help. Rose sat on the bottom stair and called Leia. She was on the phone for 10 minutes before joining the guys in the kitchen.
“What did she say?” Finn asked
“He had a few symptoms so they called the doctor yesterday and he was told to go in and get checked out, they didn't want to worry Y/N and Ben so they just kept it between them at that point, the hospital got him tested and obviously he had it so they said he would get kept in overnight but he started to struggle to breathe so they put him on the machine. They don’t know when or if he’ll come back around”
“Oh god” Finn replied
“We just have to take care of her” Rose said “We know how close she is to her parents and not being able to be with them is going to be so hard for her”
“She has us” Poe replied “And we’ll be here for her day and night, no matter what time”
“Absolutely” Rose nodded “I’ll wake her for dinner”
The next week was difficult, you’d asked for some time away from work as you knew you would never be able to concentrate whilst your thoughts were all about your father. He hadn’t been getting better but he also hadn’t gotten any worse, which the doctors said was a really good thing. Poe and Rose had both taken a few days off to make sure someone was with you and helping keep your mind off things. You and Poe were on a walk with BeeBee one afternoon when your phone rang.
“It’s mum” you said to Poe before answering the phone. He gently took hold of your arm and led you over to a wall where you could sit. He could only hear your side of the conversation but the fact you hadn’t burst into tears yet made him feel more positive. “I’ll speak to you later mum, love you. Bye”
“How’s things?”
“Dad came off the ventilator this morning” you replied, happy tears appearing in your eyes “He’s breathing on his own and the doctors are really happy with his progress”
“That’s great news sweetheart. And it’ll be a load off your mind knowing he’s doing okay”
“Yeah, it really is” you replied “Thank you, you’ve helped keep me going this last week or so. I really appreciate it”
“I’m here for you anytime sweetheart” Poe replied
“I appreciate it more than you'll ever know. It's been so scary seeing all the stuff on the news, I guess I just didn't think it would end up so close to home”
Poe held his arms open and you fell into his hug gratefully. Poe gave the best hugs in the entire world. He hugged tightly and it made anyone he hugged feel secure and content.
Easter was very much a non event, the weather wasn't great so you were inside all day. Poe cooked a nice meal for everyone and you sat and watched a lot of TV whilst eating all of the Easter snacks you'd ordered in with the food shop. You were all happy to have a few days off work, Finn had a few weeks off whilst the schools were closed for the spring break. A few days after Easter, your father was released from the hospital. He still wasn't 100% back to his normal self but he was really glad to be back in his own home. You face-timed with him and your mother every day, just to check up on how they were both doing. You knew it wasn't easy on Leia either. She had to take care of Han plus do everything herself at home, whilst trying to work. Finn decided to take up gardening whilst he had free time, he ordered loads of plants and gardening tools online and got to work as soon as they arrived. Your garden had never really been full of plants because you and Rose were always too busy and neither of you were that into gardening. Finn cut down all the bushes, planted loads of flowers and painted the fences. The small fence that separated the patio from the grass was painted a sky blue and all of the surrounding fences were white. Poe helped Finn with the painting, whilst you and Rose cleaned up all the garden furniture. Once you were done, it looked like a whole new garden.
As the month went on, things with everyone's work got quieter. You were no longer working full days, Monday to Wednesday you only worked from 11am until 3pm, Thursday you worked 9am-12pm and Friday was a day off. Rose only had to work Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Poe no longer had to do any work. He was luckily still getting paid but his work just didn't have anything else they could do remotely. They told him to keep checking his work emails just incase anything did come in. It took a while to adjust to all of the free time. Working from home had been strange anyway but only working for part of the time made it even weirder. Finn was still working his normal hours after the school break. Friday became a cooking day. Poe continued to teach you how to make meals, and sometimes the pair of you would bake.
Rose liked to come on walks with BeeBee when she had the spare time, the park was everyone's favourite place to go. It became a lifeline to everyone. The stay at home order still said you were only able to go out once a day for some exercise. You all began to look forward to walk time so you could get to your park. You could walk all the way round it twice before BeeBee got bored. You would always stop at the kiosk and get a coffee or an ice cream, whilst the dog ran after his ball.
“This is his dream” Poe chuckled as he watched Rose throwing the ball “He's getting to spend time with people he loves, he's getting much longer walks than normal and he gets to run after his ball a lot”
You smiled “Animals must be loving this lockdown thing, they get to spend so much time with their humans and don't have to stay home alone all day”
“Bee is loving living with you and Rose. He's always really happy when you guys come to visit us so all of us living together is great for him”
“I'm actually really enjoying it too, I had my reservations at first. Especially when Rose just mentioned Finn moving in. I didn't want to be the third wheel in my own home. And even when she said you were coming too, I wasn't sure we'd all manage to work around each other but thankfully we have and I couldn't be happier to be spending this lockdown with you guys. Especially with how much you helped me when my dad was ill”
“I'm glad we're all together too. It's made things feel so much better knowing that anytime I have a bad day I get to spend it with my best friends. Living with Finn is great but sometimes when him and Rose are all loved up it gets a bit annoying. I mean not that I'm not happy for them because I absolutely am, they're a great couple but yeah”
“No, I totally get that. Being the 3rd wheel isn't easy” you nodded “They're adorable, but sometimes it sucks to be left out so I'm glad we have each other during this lockdown”
“Me too, I think you're the only one that gets what it's like to be 3rd wheel to them” Poe chuckled
The final few days of the month were difficult, Rose fell ill with suspected Covid. She had all of the symptoms but she didn't feel overly ill. Finn moved into the spare room with Poe, he didn't want to get ill whilst he was still so busy with work. You looked after Rose, bringing her food and plenty of fluids to keep her going. You were glad that she didn't have a really bad case of it, but you worried for the rest of you.
So here’s the next part. I hope if you read this far that you enjoyed it and you’re still enjoying the series. Your comments would mean the world to me <3 Have a lovely weekend!

Will update warnings on each chapter if necessary.
Tumblr media
Slight AU
Casey Piven was sitting at the bar of a club downtown. She was looking for her next mark, but so far the pickings were slim.
She'd chatted up a lawyer earlier but he'd been more interested in his next fix than her.
Too bad, he was hot.
Just when she thought she was going to have to move on to another bar, the night got a lot more interesting. The Avengers walked into the bar on a wave of laughter. They all seemed to be making fun of the dark haired man who was wearing gloves and a leather jacket in this heat. He seemed to be throwing their comments right back at them with a sweet smile.
"I'm just saying Buck if you lose another cell phone my assistant is going to kick your ass." Captain America said.
"Naa. She loves me. She won't get mad at me." Buck, you think he said answers as they sit a few stools away.
"I wouldn't count on that saving you." Steve Rogers says.
Casey tried not to look at them, and a redhead who could only be the Black Widow sits down on Steve's other side drawing his attention away from Buck.
When their eyes meet in the mirror behind the bar Buck smiles and Casey smiles back. He turns facing her and says 'Hi. I'm Bucky."
"I'm Casey," she replies, holding her hand out to shake. He turns it and kisses her knuckles. Then moves over to the stool right next to hers and orders them both a drink.
Casey doesn't know what to make of him. He chats with her, rubbing her arm, leaning in like he's interested. He puts his hand on her back when he's ordering more drinks. They talk for hours. When she looks at the time, she makes an excuse to leave. Work in the morning. Total lie but leave em wanting more.
Bucky asks for her number then says he will call tomorrow. After Steve's assistant gets him a new phone. He keeps dropping or losing them, he admits sheepishly.
"It was really nice to meet you Bucky" she says and kisses his cheek before heading for the door.
He calls the next afternoon and invited her to movie night with his friends. She arrived at the compound dressed in jeans and a decent top with her hair in a ponytail. Makeup minimal.
When she passed the front gate she stared in amazement. The big building was a lot of glass. Shaking it off she parked in a visitor spot and went into the lobby.
"Hi, I'm Casey Piven. I'm here to see Bucky." She said with a smile.
"Yes ma'am," he answers, checking her out. " Cap's assistant is going to escort you up. That's her," he says pointing to the harassed looking woman, having a heated conversation on her phone at the other end of the security desk.
"No, Sam I will not be able to get flowers before 6. I have to escort Bucky's date to movie night, pick up Cap's dry cleaning, order enough pizza to feed all of them, and you know that includes Clint so it's a lot. Then I still have hours of paperwork and I haven't even started on the packets for that presentation you are making on Thursday." She seemed pissed. Casey wondered if Captain Rogers' assistant needed an assistant. "Fine! Fine, Sam. I will call Shelley at the florist and see if she can bring you something but don't bitch about what you get. Next time give a girl some warning."
"Umm.. excuse me?" Casey said trying to not laugh at the disgruntled expression on the assistants face. "The security guard said I needed to have you escort me to Bucky."
"Right, sorry." She blew out a breath and dialed the phone while heading to the elevator." Come with me. Shelley, how are you? I need a favor…"
The assistant didn't speak to Casey again, but that was ok. She was busy looking around.
Getting off the elevator, they moved to a room with no windows. "The media room," the assistant said, leading Casey to a chair. "Friday tell Bucky his guest is here." She said to the ceiling.
"Right away ma'am." A female voice replied.
"Friday is an AI. She monitors the building." The assistant says, then goes back to her call."Shelley you are a lifesaver."
Bucky entered the room a few moments later, and greeted Casey with a kiss on the cheek. The assistant rolled her eyes.
"How are you?" Bucky asked.
"Not great," Casey says. "I got laid off from my job today. They waited until the end of my shift, but it's whatever."
She saw the look of speculation on the assistants face, but Bucky was all sympathetic and comforting.
That was the beginning of 3 weeks of being romanced. Wined and dined. Spending whole weekends in bed, talking about anything and everything.
Casey was in love, so when Bucky invited her to the compound on a Friday night she went without question.
In the lobby it was a repeat of the first time she had entered the place. Security guard says to wait for Steve's assistant, Steve's assistant on the phone arguing.
"No Natasha I can't get the new model until it releases on Monday. I called and they will ship it on Monday, you should have it by Wednesday or Thursday. No they won't let me pick it up. It's manufacturer is in Asia somewhere and I don't have time to fly there." The assistant said, turning she spots Casey and sighs."NATASHA! I have to go, Bucky's visitor is here. Yes, he wants me to do it again. I know it's fucked up."
Motioning Casey to the cluster of chairs on the other side of the room, Steve's assistant follows her over and tells her to sit down. The assistant takes the opposite seat and leans her elbows on her knees.
"Look Casey, I'm really sorry. Bucky asked me to let you know that he isn't ready for a relationship. He respects you and he feels too damaged to continue something that isn't going anywhere." The assistant sounds like she's said this before.
Casey stares at the assistant. "Why wouldn't he tell me himself? I want to see him, NOW!"
"He isn't here." The assistant answers, waving back the guard who started around the security desk.
"So he just had you break up with me? I don't believe you. This doesn't make any sense. He was at my place this morning. Why wouldn't he tell me?" She'd been played. What the hell? She hadn't seen it coming.
The assistant sighs again, sitting back in her chair. She is watching Casey way too closely. Casey thinks she is getting some sick pleasure out of this.
"I just delivered the message." The assistant says standing. "Your number has been blocked, your access to the compound is revoked. If you come back you won't get through the gate. I'm sorry but I have to go now. I'm busy."
When the assistant stands to leave Casey jumps up, grabbing the other girl's arm.
"Did he really send you or did you just decide you want him for yourself?" Casey practically screams at the assistant. To her shock the assistant starts to laugh, loudly, causing the security guard to sit back down with a smile.
"I can do better than that man-whore and plan to. You should go. Don't make a fool out of yourself over this." She walks away, answering her phone as she waits for the elevator."Yes Wanda?," She says."Ok, I'm on my way back up and I'll fix it."
She steps into the elevator and is gone. Casey stands in shock for a moment, then storms out of the lobby. She gets in her car and heads to the bar. Rage is taking root and she doesn't know what to do.
After drinking all evening Casey goes home to the apartment she rented for the last con. Her bed still smelled like Bucky's cologne and it makes her head spin.
She spends days following the assistant on errands and back to her little house. The assistant is never home for long. Flying back to the compound at all hours.
Casey took this as proof that she was seeing Bucky.
At 3 a.m. on a Saturday morning, Casey waited in the bushes for the assistant to get home. Casey had followed her to the Avengers Compound at 11pm the previous night so she should be home soon. Casey's hear thundered in her chest.
Jumping out of the bushes at the assistant she was shocked when the girl evaded her attack and pulled a gun. She smacked Casey in the head with the gun and called 911 on her cell phone.
Courts, restraining orders, a visit from Homeland Security and the FBI.
It all went by in a blur.
After it was all over Casey was heartbroken, branded a stalker and under observation from everyone.
And still determined to get Bucky back….

The Deal - ep. 02 - Georgia
Summary: When your car costs more than you expected you strike a deal with Daryl.
A/N: I forgot how much I love writing these two.
Georgia Masterlist | The Walking Dead Masterlist
☼ ☼ ☼ ☼
The next time you saw Daryl it was Tuesday. He had called you on Sunday night to let you know that the problem was your fuel line and your exhaust. He’d used a lot of car terms that you didn’t necessarily understand before finally assuring you that he would have the car back in working condition as quickly as possible. Which would have been quicker if you had the money to pay him for the job. You might not have understood the car terms but you understood the dollar amount and it was more than you could afford on top of other expenses. Who knew letting Eugene fiddle with the car would cost so much?
“We’ll work something out, come by the garage on Tuesday.” Daryl had offered when you admitted that the price was higher than you had expected.
So on Tuesday, just after school, Tara dropped you off in front of the garage. It was raining something awful and colder than it had been all weekend; appropriate November weather according to Eugene. The hoodie and jeans you had on weren’t the best of your looks but it would have to do.
“Hey sweetheart!” Axel greeted you when you walked into the garage, acting like the two of you were the best of friends. Tiny waved from where he was inspecting a tire. “You come to check on the car?”
“I did. Is Daryl around?” You asked, fiddling with the strap of your backpack.
“Ran to grab smokes, should be back soon,” Axel replied, “feel free to wait.” He gestured to an old backseat that had been converted into a couch.
“Alright.” You sat down on the couch and pulled a book from your backpack, beginning to read as you waited.
Daryl wasn’t gone ten minutes more, coming in and shaking the rain off himself as he took his jacket and flannel off, hanging them by the door. You felt hyperaware of him when he was around which was probably why you looked up the minute he came in and kept your eyes on him as he moved further into the garage.
“It’s shit out there.” He mentioned, still oblivious to you.
“Yer girl’s here.” Axel piped up, pointing a wrench in your direction.
Daryl turned toward you, eyes widening a bit as he caught sight of you. He coughed and ran a hand through his hair, trying to fix it. “What’re ya doing ‘ere?” He asked.
“You told me to come down to discuss my car.”
“Did ya walk ‘ere?”
“Tara...my friend dropped me off.” You replied, standing up and following him as he walked over to the car.
Daryl nodded and walked over to you, grabbing your arm to pull you away from Axel and Tiny. You were going to consider this his designated move if everytime you saw him he was dragging you around by the arm.
“Ya shouldn’t come by when I'm not at here.”
“But you are here.” You pointed out, smiling.
“Anything coulda happened while I wasn’t.” He stated, looking back to the other two as if they weren’t to be trusted. And maybe they weren’t but they’d been perfectly welcoming to you.
“I’m all in one piece, promise.” You assured. “But listen, you wanted to talk about payment plans or something?”
Daryl sighed, “Yeah, listen, ain’t nothin’ I can do ‘ere but...if I work off the books, take more time, ya can pay in more installments. It’d be half what it is now.”
“Seriously? That would be amazing.”
“Ain’t a big deal.” He shrugged, “I’ll move the car to my house tonight.”
“Thank you, thank you!” You surprised him by wrapping your arms around his neck and hugging him tightly. Daryl tensed on impact and you let go when you realized how stiff he was. “Sorry.”
“S’alright.” He replied, immediately chewing at his thumb to calm himself down.
“I really, really appreciate it. Honestly.” You repeated, “I have to go to work but let me know whatever the first payment is.”
“I’ll figure it out, let ya know.” He promised. “Ya walking?”
“What?” You asked. You had already started the short trip back to your bookbag. Patricia was expecting you at the diner by 4pm and it was nearing 3:50 now. Lori would grip about how many minutes you were cutting it.
“Ta work. Ya walking ta work?” He asked.
“Oh, yeah, but it’s just at the diner.” In proximity to the autobody shop it was hardly a three minute walk. Patricia’s diner was a block over on the corner.
“It’s still rainin’, I could give ya a lift.”
“You wouldn’t mind?” You’d let him give you a lift to the stop sign right outside if he offered.
“Nah, I’ll grab my coat.”
-
You had taken up working part time at the local diner when you were fifteen. The minute you were allowed to get working papers from the school you had begged your mom for the opportunity, swearing that you would save your money and not waste it on clothes or makeup or whatever ‘frivolous things’ your mom would criticize. It had taken more convincing for your dad but since he wasn’t thrilled paying for your cellphone or the thought of paying for a car in the future he eventually caved.
Patricia was a friend of the family and she promised you wouldn’t have to wait on anyone sketchy or work too many hours and never on Sunday. It started with four hour shifts four days a week but it had evolved from there. Sometimes you worked after school until midnight, on weekends you worked early morning shifts.
“So I was wondering if there was anyway I could pick up a couple extra shifts?” You requested, following Patricia through the double doors as you tied your apron. “I don’t know if you know-”
“Dale told me your car is over at his shop.” She replied, indicating that she did, in fact, know.
“It is. So, ya know, I need some extra cash.” You explained.
“You know, Otis’ cousin works at the place in Woodbury. I’m sure he could get you a good deal.” Patricia mentioned.
“I’m good, thanks. I just need a few extra hours.” You replied, grabbing some menus from under the register as a small group walked through the door.
“We’ll see.” It was as good as no and you knew that. Especially when she offered Otis’ cousin to you three more times during your shirt.
Her antagonizing was only interrupted by Dale’s arrival around 8pm for dinner. You were so relieved to see him that you almost thanked him for coming in. Dale came in every night for dinner and every morning for breakfast. Ever since his wife had died three years ago he had made the diner a regular spot for himself. Patricia wouldn’t say anything bad about his garage with him there.
He sat at the counter like always, reading the sports section of the newspaper as he ate. Occasionally he’d call you over for a refill of his drink but otherwise he kept to himself for the evening, a little unusual but you were busier than normal and didn’t think about it. Until he called you over as he was getting ready to leave.
“How was the burger?” You asked, pouring him a cup of coffee to go.
“Good as always. I actually wanted to talk to you about Daryl.” Dale said, “heard you’ve been having trouble with the car?”
“News travels fast. But uh, yeah he’s gonna fix it for me.”
Dale nodded, “I just wanted to say, Daryl’s a good kid. His head just ain’t in the right place sometimes.”
“He’s just fixing my car Dale.”
“Keep it that way.” He admonished, getting up. He left behind a rather generous tip and you were quick to stuff it in your apron pocket. Lori was convinced that tips should be split evenly and she told anyone who would listen. She would flip if she saw the twenty that Dale had left you.
-
“So, how long have you been working on cars?” You asked, fiddling with a wrench that lay atop a toolkit. You were sitting on an old lawn chair under the carport of the Dixon’s house with the space heater turned toward you.
“Long enough.” Daryl shrugged. Whatever he was fixing you couldn’t be sure but you had a nice view from your spot and took advantage of watching the way his muscles flexed as he worked.
He had called you on Wednesday with a promise to work on your car Friday afternoon and, whether he intended it to happen or not, you showed up with your backpack. Claiming that you were off work and your mom was annoying you at home. He didn’t say anything against you being there, just turned the space heater toward you and went back to work.
“Don’t ya got dinner or somethin’?” Daryl asked, not that he necessarily wanted to be rid of you, just that he didn’t really understand why you had decided to spend your Friday afternoon with him when you could be spending it anywhere else.
You shrugged, “told my mom I was going to Maggie’s. She’s at work so she won’t check and Maggie told her parents that she’s with me cause she’s going out with Glenn tonight. It’s their three-month anniversary.”
“Coulda just said no.” He replied.
“Sorry, I talk a lot.” You apologized, “my ex always joked that I needed a muzzle cause I didn’t know when to shut up.”
“Didn’t say that.” Daryl explained, stopping what he was doing to look over at you, “doesn’t bother me. Talk as much as ya want.”
“Thanks.”
He hummed.
“Do you have any plans for Thanksgiving?” You asked.
He turned back to look at you again, eyebrows raised in confusion before shaking his head. “Oh yeah, we’re havin’ the whole family over. Just gotta bail ‘em outta jail first.”
You laughed, louder than you intended too, and the screen door on the side of the house banged open at the same time, startling you. Daryl stood up straighter as an older man came down the three steps into the car port. He didn’t seem to notice you, going straight to the beat-up old refrigerator in the corner and grabbing a six-pack of beer before heading back inside. Once the door clanged shut after him and he was back in the house Daryl let out a breath and you looked over at him.
“You can save some money...you don’t have to bail him out.”
Daryl laughed before turning back to work on the car again.
“Do you work tomorrow?”
“I got a shift at the slaughterhouse over in Woodbury. Can’t work on the car again until Monday.” He replied.
“That’s fine, whenever. I can pay you the first installment next Friday after I get paid. I have to go dress shopping tomorrow with Maggie for the winter formal.” You supplied, pulling Daryl’s flannel from last Friday tighter. The sun was officially down and the only light, besides the glow of the space heater, was the flickering overhead light in the carport.
He hummed, “that’s fine.”
“I don’t wanna go to the formal but…it’s important to my mom. She’s on PTA and they’re organizing. She said it would look bad if I didn’t go.” You said, pulling your knees up to your chest. “Did you ever go to like, prom or something?”
“Nah.”
“I wish I wasn’t going.”
“Ya seem like the type.” He replied.
“What?”
“Ya seem like the type ta go ta all that shit.” Daryl clarified.
“Yeah.” You agreed. He was right, you knew that. You looked just like every sweet country girl in a movie or a song was supposed to look like. You did all the things you were supposed to do. You got straight A’s, went to church every Sunday, you were polite and friendly, you went to youth group and school dances and you were responsible and you didn’t curse or drink or smoke and you had lots of friends and you were a cheerleader and you played softball. All the things that your mom had always wanted for you.
Daryl glanced over at you as he wiped his hands on the rag he kept in his back pocket. “I’m calling it a night. I got work in the morning.”
“Okay,” you stood up and grabbed your bag, “I’ll see you later I guess.” You hadn’t been thinking about this evening coming to an end. In your mind it just stretched on for hours and hours and infinity until both of you lost track of time.
“I’ll give ya a ride, don’t want ya walking when its dark out.”
Before you could say anything your beeper went off. An S.O.S text from Lori. “Damn it.”
“What’s the matter?”
“Uh,” you looked back at Daryl, “could I use your phone? My cellphone is dead and this girl I work with wants me to call her. Guarantee she’s going to call out.”
Daryl looked back at the door his dad had come out of minutes earlier. He never had people over his house, mostly because he didn’t get along with people but also because he didn’t want his dad seeing anyone around. Will Dixon was an easy person to be embarrassed by.
“I can just walk there and see what she needs, it’s okay.” You promised.
“Nah, it’s fine. Come on.” He opened the door for you, letting you pass in front of him into the house. The kitchen was run down, peeling linoleum, old appliances, a mountain of dirty dishes, and bottles of alcohol cluttering the counter space. On the wall by the refrigerator there was a phone and Daryl guided you in that direction so that you could call Lori back. Somewhere off the kitchen a TV was blaring a football game.
“Thanks.” You whispered before picking up the phone and dialing the diner.
Lori picked up immediately, “Patricia’s Diner.”
“Hey Lor, it’s me. I saw you paged.”
“Oh my god, are you working tomorrow night?” She asked.
“No, I’m off.”
“Can you? Please? I got a date!”
“A date?”
“Yeah...Rick just came in and we were talking and he asked me out. I’m so excited! But I have work and I don’t want to ask Amy-”
“I can do it. I need the hours.”
“Heard about the car.” She replied. It really was national news.
“I got to go.” You hung the phone up before she could say goodbye and then Daryl was pushing you toward the door. You were just reaching for the doorknob when Daryl’s father came into the kitchen, looking at you for the first time.
“Who the fuck is this?”
“Go wait outside in my truck.” Daryl said, pushing you closer to the door so he could stand in front of you. “We were just leaving.”
“Don’t leave on my account.” He called after you. As the door closed you could just hear him asking Daryl if he’d “paid her well? Don’t be a shitty tipper, that’s wha’ got yer brother in trouble.”
You waited ten minutes in the truck for Daryl. When he finally came out he slammed the side door shut and then slammed the car door shut too. The ride home was silent, you wanted to apologize or tell him not to worry about his dad seeming like a dick or something but your tongue was stuck in your throat. So instead you just sat there staring out the window while he smoked. He drove you to the same spot he had last time, a few houses down from yours so that your parents wouldn’t see you in his truck. And just like last time you lingered in the passenger seat, resolved to say something.
“Thanks.”
“Ain’t a big deal.” He replied, lighting another cigarette off the end of the one he’d just finished.
“Not Just for fixing my car.” You explained, “it’s nice of you to put up with me.”
He shrugged, “Don’t mind the company. Sorry ‘bout my old man.”
“It’s okay.” You promised. “Tell him ya didn’t tip me on account of my less than spectacular appearance.”
Daryl shook his head, the faintest smile appearing at your words.
“I’ll see you later?” You asked, finally opening the door and exiting the car.
“Yeah.”
Just like last time Daryl sat, idling while you walked down to your house and went inside. Once the door was shut behind you he put the car back in drive and took off for his house.

What Kind of Man
Warnings: recovering from injury, possessive behaviour    AO3  <<<Previous
Chapter 6: Haze
You woke to the sensation of someone running their fingers through your hair. Slowly opening your eyes; it must have been the afternoon. You don’t remember going to bed. You started to whimper; your leg hurt so much. Why did it hurt? What happened while you wandered the halls? “Shh shh my love, it’s alright, you’ll be better soon,” cooed the voice. You looked up, confused, why was Michael here? “M- Michael, why are you here a day early? Did something happen?” you questioned. As you tried to get up, the pain in your leg shot through you, bringing tears to your eyes. He gently pushed you back down, wiping the tears. “It’s Friday my dear,” he stated. “What do you mean its Friday? I went for a walk on Monday. And why does my leg hurt?” the questions just spilled out of you. Michael lay next to you, holding your hand in his, stroking it with his thumb. Just feeling the warmth again calmed you down a little. “I arrived on Wednesday,” he started. “Mrs Mead found you in the servants’ hallway on Monday night. You had collapsed from your fever and set fire to your night gown in the process. The fire was put out, but …” he hesitated. “your leg has been burnt a little.” A wave of nausea hit you. You finally looked down to your leg, it was wrapped in gauze. As you looked you felt the pain get worse, finally acknowledging your injury. “The shock and the fever combined had you out cold for a few days. You did wake occasionally, albeit you were a little delirious.” “H-How bad is it?” you asked. “second degree nearer to your foot, first up to your thigh. Mrs Mead had put you out very quickly. The physician is due to visit today to check the progress, to see if it’ll scar or not,” he explained. You started to cry. From the pain, from the fever, from the turn your fate seemed to have taken since you married this man. Why had the universe been so cruel to you? Who had you wronged? Had you done something in your past life and was this your punishment? He pulled you into his chest, warm arms enveloping you. He stroked his fingers through your forehead, letting you sob into him wholeheartedly. “I want to se my m-mother,” you cried. “Oh little dove, I was already on my way back before any letters could reach me. You know I would have brought her with me if I could, I’d give you the moon if u asked.” You cried until you tired out, but the pain was still unbearable. You just wanted to be held and to sleep. “No sleeping for you Mrs Langdon, you need to eat something before you put your head down again,” Michael stated. As if on que, Mrs Mead came in with a tray of food. A hearty soup and some bread, the same as before. “Dinner time seems to be the crying hour for you,” she joked. You pressed you face further into Michaels chest, embarrassed at her observation. She set the tray down and left, leaving just you and your husband. He rearranged the pillows so you could sit up comfortably and brought you meal over. As you reached for your soup, he slapped your hand away. “You’re sick, I’ll help you.” “Michael, my leg is burnt, not my hands,” you stated. “That is of no concern to me, now say ‘ahh’,” he replied, holding the spoon up to you. You hesitated and looked away before opening your mouth. You knew he wasn’t about to take no for an answer. He fed you the rest of the meal; time flew as you asked about his trip, wanting to take your mind off the pain. //// You had fallen asleep again by the time the doctor had arrived. Woken by a cold press on your forehead, your fever had returned. “Good afternoon Lady Langdon, its nice to see you finally awake. I’m Dr Montgomery and it’s a pleasure to meet you,” he introduced. You could only nod in reply, the pain making you unable to speak. “I’ve already checked your leg; Medina has changed the dressing. I suggest bed rest until next week. The wound will take a few weeks to fully heal; you’re extremely lucky, the wound isn’t too deep so scarring will be minimal,” he finished. “Will it still hurt?” you asked. “Your pain should reduce in a few days, however your fever is making it feel worse, so I have prescribed some Laudanum. All I can suggest for your illness is rest, and that too shall pass.” “Why am I sick?” you asked again. Dr Montgomery sighed, “It isn’t uncommon in new brides. Especially moving from the south to the north. It’s a sort of homesickness. The faster you get accustomed to the temperature and new surroundings, the better.” Something deep in your gut told you that he was lying, your sickness was caused by something else. And what about your nightmares? What could explain those? A simple fever could not be the culprit. But you kept your mouth shut, this man was not to be trusted. He left you alone with Medina, and you drifted off again. //// The laudanum was helping with the pain, but the constant daze it kept you in frustrated you. Michael had moved his office into your room for now to keep an eye on you; you had tried to leave the room far too many times to leave you unattended. The rustling of paper and the scratch of the pen remined you that you were being watched. Despite that, you still tried to get out of bed. “How many times do you have to be put back in bed?” you heard from the other side of the room. His tone was stern. “I’m getting sick of staying in bed all day,” you slurred out. Michael sighed and walked over to you. He lifted you and carried you over to his desk, sitting down and placing you in his lap. “There, now you’re not in bed.” You couldn’t bring yourself to feel embarrassed. He adjusted you so the pair of you were comfortable. The scratching of the pen starting again. “what are you doing,” you asked. “I’m finalising plans for a trip.” “You’re leaving again?” “I’m taking you with me. Once your leg is healed enough, we’ll be going to Paris,” he smiled at you. Paris. How you hated the sound of that city. Your brother’s stories echoing through your head, the anger breaking through the haze of the medication. “I don’t want to go.” “Why not, it’ll be our honeymoon and it truly is a beautiful city, quite romantic at night.” You answered before you could stop yourself, “of course you’d know all about the city at night.” Michael stopped writing, putting his pen down and inhaling. “And what do you mean by that hmm?” “Nothing,” you replied, you could feel the rage building inside him. He grabbed your face, making you look up at him. “Answer me properly. What are you talking about?” “My brother spoke about your grand tour,” you mumbled. His nostrils flared and his grip on your jaw tightened enough to bruise. The drugs only allowed you the feel the pressure and not the pain that would have come with such a tight grip. You winced anyway. “Gabriel needs his tongue cut out it seems.” “Sho itsh all true then?” you tried to get out, he was still squishing your cheeks. He finally let go of your face. Pushing your hair from your face and stroking your jaw instead. “I am a changed man Y/N. I was a different person two years ago. I was young and unmarried. I’d be a fool to betray you in such a way,” he sighed. “I’d kill you if your ever did,” you smiled at him, the Laudanum seemed to have removed all filters, making you say what was on your mind. You lightly pecked his lips, settling into his chest for another nap. //// You had been given the clear for your bandages to come off, and your fever had gone. You decided to have a bath while you were alone for the first time in almost two weeks. The water was a little cooler than you would have liked it to be, but you didn’t want to agitate your burns. You tried to relax, thinking about the past few weeks of your life. You had been married almost a month now. There was a sense of foreboding before you walked down the aisle that day; every single event since has just made it worse. The nightmares, Michael’s volatile attitude, the painting and now being scarred for life; it all weighed heavy on you. You think that you might be driven insane, or maybe even killed. You didn’t know. would you even last the year? The painting. You had forgotten about it in all the commotion. It had scared you enough to almost die. Why was Michael’s mothers face painted over? Did he want to forget her? Your thoughts stopped in their tracks as the feeling of being watched overwhelmed you. Just like the first night you were here. You got out of the tub, carefully drying yourself off before heading to the dressing room. //// The dressing room was cold as usual, making goose bumps rise all over your skin. You caught a glimpse of your scar in the mirror, moving your robe aside to get a closer look. It started just above your ankle, all the way up to your outer hip. You let your robe hang loosely around your shoulders, as you untied it to inspect the top of the scar. The skin there was sensitive, it felt different to the healthy skin around it. It made you a little self-conscious. No one would ever see it, but you would always know it was there, a reminder of the fear you let overcome you, of your fragile state of mind. You felt weak, so far from the girl you used to be. Your reputation in the local area of your home was one of an intelligent and brave girl, a tongue so sharp that even the priest had banned you from attending church on occasions. But here you were now, pathetic, letting your dreams out of all things, control your actions. “it seems that Aphrodite herself has blessed me with her presence today.” You quickly went to retie your robe and cover your leg, but Michael stopped you before you could. He rested his chin on your shoulder, looking at you through the mirror. His hair was damp, and he donned a robe; he must have had a bath too. His pulled your robe aside, exposing you leg to him. You wished he would never see it. “Don’t you see what I see? Does the mirror not show you the form that occupies my mind?” he asked, as he trailed his fingers over your scar, you almost wept at the tenderness of his touch. He let go of your waist, moving in front of you before he knelt down. “Michael! What are you doing? Get up from there please!” you cried out. This man, who many saw as a god, had knelt before you. He looked at you with a hunger and devotion seen in the faces of the worshippers in temples of the ancient world. He paid no mind to your distress. Instead moving to kiss your scar. He started at your ankle, looking up at you as he made his way up, leaving no part untouched. He stopped briefly to pull the stool behind you, making you sit down. Without a word, he started working his way up to the inside of your thighs, alternating between kisses and little bites. His actions ignited a fire in your belly. Making you shift around to alleviate some of the tension you were feeling. He stopped and rested his cheek on your thigh, you ran your fingers through his now dry hair. “There’s a hunger in me that only you can satiate,” he whispered. He pried your thighs apart, looking directly at your wet folds. “You wouldn’t be cruel enough to let me starve, now would you?” He ran his fingers through your wetness, making you moan and grip his hair. He hooked his arms around your thighs, pulling you towards his face. You had to hold the edge of the stool to stop yourself from falling back. He licked a broad stripe from your entrance to your clit. The sensation was so foreign to you, but you wanted more. He licked and sucked on your lips and clit, like a man truly starved. You felt his groans vibrating through you, bringing you closer to the edge. “M- Michael, that feels so good,” you moaned out. You could feel him smirk as you gripped his hair tighter, lightly scratching his scalp in appreciation. He dove in further, his nose pressed against you as he fucked you with his tongue. He felt you begin to tighten around him and moved up to suck on your clit, he looked you in the eyes as he brought you over the edge, licking you through your aftershocks. Both of you were breathing heavily as he finally pulled away, looking up at you with your juices covering the bottom half of his face. He got up and pulled you into a hungry kiss, tasting yourself on him. “You taste divine.” You could see his hardness through his robe. You averted your gaze, “can I return the favour? “My my, my little dove has gotten bolder hmm?” moving to make eye contact with you. “Some other time, I do not want to agitate the burn and I need to be inside you.” He pulled you from the stool, sitting down, before seating you on his lap to face the mirror. “I need you to see what I see,” he said, as he untied his robe, bringing out his dick and running it over the wetness of your folds. You mewled and tried not to look in the mirror. “Look at us as I push into you,” he ordered, “look at your greedy pussy swallowing me whole.” He pushed into you, making you watch as he did so, the sight making you wetter than before. He bottomed out with a groan and sat still. He brought your hand over your stomach, pressing it down. “Can you feel me inside you? I’m so deep.” You pressed further and made him hiss. He gripped your hips, lifting you up and down, you matched your pace with his. The pair of you mesmerised by the sight of the image in the mirror, the sight of him splitting you in half. You turned to kiss him, your tongues dancing as you picked up the pace. Neither of you lasted long, you were already sensitive from before; he was (you hoped) pent up from all those days away. The coil finally snapped, you squeezed around him with cries of his name. He followed behind, painting your insides with his seed. He pulled out and you both watched as your mixed fluids seeped out of you. “Look at yourself, you must be a goddess,” Michael stated. You looked at your fucked-out form in the mirror, lips swollen from kisses, hair mussed, and skin covered in a sheen of sweat from the exertion. In the haze of pleasure, you could almost mistake yourself for a carnal version of Botticelli’s ‘Venus’. You smiled at the thought. “We’ll need to bathe again,” you pointed out, making you and Michael laugh. //// You had your second bath of the day together. Getting ready for the evening; dinner would be served in your room as you needed to sleep early; you left for Paris tomorrow. Michael had brushed and braided your hair, and you had done the same for him. As you waited for MRs Mead to bring your meal, Michael had brought out a box, one that you had recognised. “Your mother sent this for you, your embroidery seems to be quite well known in the area and she was surprised you forgot to pack your materials.” Michael handed you the box. It was your grandmothers, then your mothers, and now it was yours. How had you forgotten your most prized possession? “Thank you so much Michael,” you hugged him. “It’s a family heirloom,” you explained, opening the compartments. You floss and needles were just as you left them. Michael reclined next to you, watching you inspect the item. “I’m sure it’ll continue to be passed down generations of Langdons,” he said. You blushed at the thought of children, you hadn’t given it much thought before. “I’ll take you to the finest cloth merchants Paris has to offer to get more materials for your liking,” he smiled at you. “I’m sure Mrs Venebale will know some locally?” “Nonsense. Why go to Paris if not to take full advantage of what the city has to offer? We can also see what the new seasons fashions are.” You raised your eyebrow, “I see, this tip is for you to dress yourself isn’t it?” “Well my love, the wardrobe does not curate itself. Personal shopping trips are must in high society,” he winked at you. You laughed and shook your head, thinking about your next project, trying to calm your nerves for the trip.

The worst sickle cell crisis
September 25-October 3.2021
Saturday September 25.2021
This was Sunday 2:00 in the morning mom just finished changing my foot and I was watching the golden girls.I fell asleep for a few minutes feeling this awful pain in my lower back I called my dad to tell him that I was having pain and to tell mom but instead I called her. She came over and laid with me rubbing my back and gave me some Motrin, until the next morning…. to be continued
Sunday September 26.2021
This was Saturday afternoon I told my dad I was going to shower while in the shower I wasn’t feeling so good I had to rush and wrap myself in a towel and go sat under the ac because I was feeling very tired and shaking. My mom came in my room and said I didn’t so good, still in awful pain I had a nail appointment that I made last week so I went with mom feeling ok, it took like 30 minutes to do. I got back in the car feeling very tired again, I walked into my house put my stuff down I crawled into bed and continued to watched golden girls I fell asleep again and mom was still rubbing my back. I just couldn’t get comfortable I was moving all my bed.
My mom said do you want to go hospital I immediately said yes it was so hard to get dress my mom helped me while getting the hospital bag ready. I was in so pain it was very difficult to walk so my dad swung me over his shoulders and put me in my mom cars. While driving to the hospital I felt every single stop, bump, and turn in the road. I was crying”. I need relief, I need fast” for me to say that means the pain was sky high. Couldn’t get comfortable always turning and sitting still was so hard in the car.
I got to the emergency room at this point the pain was beyond a 10 more like 10,000 I felt like drawing out of my skin and curling up into a ball until the pain was 100% gone. Once I got in the back and the nurses started an IV for fluids I got strong *pain medication. I would sleep for 10 minutes and right back up balling crying, turning, asking for more relief.
I was being transferred to the 3 floor which was orthopedic floor with a clean hospital bed. I was going in and out of pain in between trying to sleep to the prior medication I was given back at home. My mom was always rubbing my back, hips, and legs. Getting up to use the restroom felt like my legs were set on fire and about to break at any moment. I spent that night and half the that next morning in so much pain and agony.
Monday September 27. 2021
It was the next morning still in was much pain. I did a chest X-ray and take and *nebulizer breathing treatment. This sweet nurse told my mom and I, I needed to be *I.C.U because my oxygen level was at a 45 and had pneumonia, no one on this planet earth should be at a 45. SIDE-NOTE: I cried but I remember when my auntie I wasn’t allowed in the ICU to say my goodbyes because I was to young I was 14 when she pass away from cancer. My body was asking for help and I was transferred to the I.C.U. Once I got into the ICU the nurses put me on the this *high flow oxygen machine. It felt like I was growing in my air the oxygen was going so fast up my nose and the taste was horrible.
I really didn’t have an appetite but I knew I eat something so I won’t have another on my hands. I took a few bites for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Still coughing, in an *active sickle cell crisis , pain was going on. I was in misery I just wanted home to see my sister.
Tuesday September 28. 2021
This morning I did so much such as go get a *CAT scan, do a *echocardiography and I need to use the restroom today. The nurse get a wheelchair for me, it felt so good to come out of ICU. I did a CAT scan before so I was use to it. I got to my room I made a thumbs up gesture to my mom. A few hours went then the echocardiogram technician came to my room, I was pretty nosey she allowed me to look. I asked questions because I was curious the way my heart sounded when she put on the audio gave me more power to fight my way out of the ICU.
The pain management doctor came to ask how is my pain and have went yet. I said my pain is ok and no I haven’t went he said ok and said that he would make a medical mixture for me. I was ok with that.
For rest of the day doctors and different labs techincan came in my room.
Wednesday September 29. 2021
I sat up the chair cause the bed was staring to get uncomfortable and by this time I haven’t went to bathroom and it was kind of getting painful by I still needed eat still taking a few bites of breakfast and I said to my mom that my stomach was hurting. In the ICU there is a little separator dividing the room in the corner was a toilet. ⚠️ TMI ⚠️ Ever since I was born I suffered and still suffer from constipation. That morning I took the mixture pill with my other medication. Let me tell you when I sat on that toilet it was like WW3 I could destroy the whole of Afghanistan the smell that came out my body could have taken me out. It went on for some time back to back ever for the next few days.
After I went I was so hungry any time a nurse came in and ask me if I wanted anything I said yes I usually got ginger ale and chocolate pudding, I love me some snack pack chocolate pudding.
I want to shoutout to my mom because I had so many wires on me, she did everything for me if you know what I mean 😉
Every hour my nurse came to check on me and my mom and ever 4 hours to me my iv medication and if I needed any pain medication. I started to wean off the pain medication because I didn’t want to get addicted to them but if I needed I would ask politely.
I had to sleep on my left side because I had the pneumonia was in my right lung. So I facing the door to my room I prayed to God basically saying: Dear God, please heal my lung so I can get out of ICU and to be able to see my sister and dad. I know that you can do it I believe in you.
Thursday September 30. 2021
Still in the ICU feeling much still can’t take a deep breath but I was working on the *breathing spirometer that is mess felt like hell. More doctors came in to update me and my mom, they said I looked perfectly fine but my CAT scan and X-ray was showing that I had fluid overload, a small amount of fluid around of heart, and pneumonia.
In my head I was like I need to get out of here. Still working on the breathing barometer trying to cleat my lung coughing like a maniac and sitting up off my lungs.
That night the new season of station 19 and grey anatomy came on so my mom and I watched while I ate my hospital dinner and mom had her dinner. After that I FaceTime my sister as I did ever night in hospital saying goodnight and making jokes I say goodnight and can’t wait to get home to her.
Ever other night my mom changes my wound I had of 10 years now; she was coming to the end of wrapping the rolled gauze around my foot. Around the same time the I got a new night shift nurse she would so sweet and her charge nurse pass her a piece of paper. She read it and wrote on my room board 2258 and said that I was switching floors. At that moment I knew God heard my prayer for the night before I was so excited that I was moving rooms.
My mom stared to packed our belongs and checking the room to see if we had left anything in the cabinet.
Friday October 1 2021
It was barley 1:00 in the morning on our way to the new floor. This floor was called *PCU entering our new room 2258 where we spent the next three days in. I told my mom one day closer to seeing my sister; the nurses slid me over to my new bed which was super uncomfortable. Now on this new floor between 12 and 4 they you sleep which was very comforting to hear.
I really didn’t sleep cause cause there was lab technicians taking my blood and nurses taking vitals sign. Once the sun came up my mom and I started to get up. I had such an appetite I ate all of my breakfast and was still hungry but my mom kept a sash of little snack from previous breakfast, Lunch, and dinner trays that I didn’t eat prior to being backed up so I had my favorite combo ginger ale and snack pack chocolate pudding.
The same doctor from the ICU came up was updated my mom and I still looked fine on the outside but the inside was still acting up. After they left I did so research why are keeping it is because I had a low grade fever due to pneumonia that’s all.
The physical therapist came in to work with me and my limp due to the wound I had and still have for 10 years. I walked the entire PCU floor, basic excise like in and out kicks, stepping in place, hip opener, and muscle resistance.
The more I felt better the more food was on my hospital food tray that night for dinner I had pasta and meatball with ice tea, and chocolate pudding. For the rest of night my mom and I watched tv and was heading to bed.
Saturday October 2. 2021
That morning my mom and I had a mission I was to freshen up, take my meds, let the nurses give me my Iv antibiotic and we were going for a walk on the PCU floor. After all that I decided to sit up in the chair again. The doctors came in and still I was feeling better but the x-rays were getting clearer still had pneumonia but I since couching and using my breathing barometer is was getting better. They wanted to still keep me over night to watch me for any fever spikes.
The fever spikes will only happened at 12:00 in the night so they still concerned about that. Physical therapist came to walked me and this time I didn’t even realized that I walked the over floor I was going my speed like yesterday but it seemed faster.
My dad stopped by to give me some really pretty flowers and to relieve my mom so she can go home and freshen up and checked on to my sister. My dad and I went for a walk and by the time we finished she was on her back to the hospital. She brought Popeyes and we watched the movie Selena I almost cried because I heard how she died by never got to watch it, it was the older one with Jennifer Lopez.
We continue to watch tv as we went to bed.
Sunday October 3 .2021
This was the morning I felt that I was going to be discharged form the hospital and on our way home. For breakfast I had some pancakes and sausage to drink I had some orange juice and the nurse gave me my medication and I was just chilling. The doctors came in by now it was just the fever spikes at night was reason they kept me an extra night. The nurse I had was trying to discharge me I really appreciated that.
Lunch time had just begun at the same time the nurse had came into my room to tell me I had been discharged in mid bite of my pasta and meatball I just felt it I was so happy to see my sister and dad. She said do you want to finish your lunch or just want to be discharge I said I wanted to be discharged so she was took off my heart monitor, pulse oximeter, and the IV I had.
She read me my discharge papers that I had to sign after that she went to go get a wheelchair and my mom went ahead down to get the car. For a moment I was left in the room by myself I turned on some gospel music and was praising God and thanking him for bringing me out of this one.
I told my mom to not to tell my dad I was being discharged cause I wanted to surprise him. He even called me I said the I using the bathroom the truth was I was sitting sign my discharge papers. While being rolled down to the lobby I kept thanking God for all his had done.
Pulling up to my house I got out of the car rang the doorbell and my dad opened the door and was so surprised and my sister was still sleeping so I waited until she had gotten up to tell her that I was in the ICU she just was surprised.
Now it has been four days I been home feeling much better still keeping up on my water intake and taking my temperature, oxygen levels and working on my breathing spirometer. God has and will forever been by my family and I side in times of needs he is just so good, caring, loving, merciful. Thank you God.
*pain medication: Dilaudid: treat moderate to severe pain
*nebulizer: A device for producing a fine spray of liquid, used for example for inhaling a medicinal drug
*I.C.U: a unit in a hospital providing intensive care for critically ill or injured patients that is staffed by specially trained medical personnel and has equipment that allows for continuous monitoring and life support
*high flow oxygen machine: Only offered if traditional oxygen therapy isn't helping, high flow oxygen therapy helps reduce the effort your body needs to put into breathing. By decreasing the effort of breathing and creating a small amount of positive pressure in the upper airways, this therapy helps improve oxygen delivery.
*active sickle cell crisis (in my opinion): is the pain the starts you feel it as the bad cells dies off
*CAT scan: n X-ray image made using a form of tomography in which a computer controls the motion of the X-ray source and detectors, processes the data, and produces the image.
*echocardiogram:a test of the action of the heart using ultrasound waves to produce a visual display, used for the diagnosis or monitoring of heart disease.
*breathing Spirometer:a common office test used to assess how well your lungs work by measuring how much air you inhale, how much you exhale and how quickly you exhale.
*PCU: The Progressive Care Unit or PCU is a telemetry (vital signs) monitored unit that provides care for adult patients requiring continuous cardiac monitoring

Sunshine
4.6k words exactly on a glowing fem!reader and Harry Styles finally realizing they're more than friends. A few bad words but no other warnings I can think of. Happy reading!!!
Harry always said that you glowed.
He liked to say you were a star: in your actions, in your words, in your very being. He loved to gush compliments over you, drowning you in sweet words and affectionate touches and letting you know just how much he loved you. And sure, most of that took place while he was drunk, but hey - drunk words are sober thoughts, right?
Either way, he sure did compare you to a star a lot when he was drunk, and after a while, it even carried over to sober words too when he gave you the nickname of Sunshine. And, despite your tendency to complain and correct him, you weren’t too mad about it.
You’d met him at a bar, late one night after a particularly messy breakup. He’d been positively hammered, and had approached you with the weakest pick up line you’d ever heard in your entire life.
“You, darling,” he’d slurred confidently, “light up my world… like… like nobody else.”
“Really?” you’d replied, just as drunk. “Is that so?”
“That’s so,” he’d said. He bopped your nose. “Right sunshine, you are.”
The whole night was a blur of bad jokes and aggressive flirting that never actually went anywhere. That’s what you always assumed, anyway, because you’d woken up the next morning alone in your bed with only a killer headache and his number in your cell.
It took you two weeks to call him, and, a bit tipsy, you’d given him your address and offered a night in. You had a few ideas in mind, ones that included quite a different morning after than the previous time you’d seen him, but him coming over in the softest blue jumper you’d ever seen and carrying bags of Chinese take away was not on the list.
“Tell me, Sunshine,” he’d said by way of greeting, “do you have anything fun to drink?”
“Plenty of Capri Sun,” you’d answered.
“Well,” Harry laughed, “with Capri Sun and take away, how could we go wrong?”
That morning after was, technically, quite different than the last, but - again - not in the way you’d expected. You’d traded favorite movies, talking over every scene of Love Actually with snarky commentary and shushing him when he tried to do the same with yours, and fell asleep on the couch hours after the sun rose.
Another drunken night brought another drunken phone call, and another and another, until the phone calls became sober and the random drunken nights became consistent Friday afternoons. You were making a decent headway on classic movies - movies the two of you deemed classic, anyway - and celebrated the first anniversary of your meeting at the bar where you’d met.
It was that night, one year since you’d met Harry Styles, staring at your ceiling fan and listening to him snore, that you’d realized two things at once. One, that you hadn’t dated anyone in a year, and two, that you didn’t care - you were perfectly content as it was. And, you’d thought vaguely, Harry had never mentioned a girlfriend, either.
Strange.
☀️☀️☀️
That lasted another month, and then you met your boyfriend.
His name was Oliver, and he was sweet. Smart. Cute. You really liked him. Of course you did. You’d met him at some party and hit it off almost immediately, and he took you out to dinner a few days after you met. He brought you flowers, and paid for the meal, and at the end of the night, he gave you a soft kiss on the cheek.
Harry was a bit skeptical about the lad, and he wasn’t afraid to voice his concerns.
“Sounds like a prick,” he’d said casually, mouth full of popcorn, when you’d told him all about your new boyfriend and his various hopes and dreams. Your jaw dropped. “What?” you’d said incredulously.
“Dunno,” Harry replied. “Just giving me the wrong vibes.”
And, when you’d shown him a picture, all he had to say was, “Those shoes are weird.”
You only scoffed, and he shrugged, looking at you like you were the one who was crazy. “What?” he said. “Can’t have a man without a fashion sense - don’t want him to be buying you rubbish gifts, hm?”
Despite all the slander, Harry had been adamant about meeting him.
“I need to meet this guy, Sunshine,” he’d insisted.
“Yeah, sure,” was your constant reply, “maybe some time.”
But for some reason, you’d procrastinated with the whole meetup thing. You weren’t quite sure of the exact reason why, although Harry’s skepticism on him probably didn’t help. Harry finally took it into his own hands and sent him a message on Instagram, which led to a very strange, awkward movie night.
“He seems nice,” Oliver said at the end of the night as he walked you home, and you nodded. “Mhm,” you hummed softly. “I don’t know about his taste in movies, though,” he’d gone on with a teasing smile, nudging your shoulder with his own. “Ten Things I Hate About You? A bit sappy, huh?”
You laughed a bit, shrugging your shoulders. “Yeah, he’s a… sappy guy.”
The conversation fizzled out after that, but it was a comfortable silence, and you didn’t mind too much. You seemed to have a lot of comfortable silence with him. He walked you home, and kissed you goodnight, and never came to another movie night again.
☀️☀️☀️
“Heya!” you exclaimed as Harry opened the door of his flat, already scooting past him before he’d stepped back. “Hey, Sunny,” Harry replied, and you corrected him with your name as you plopped four bags of take away on his table.
“Did you invite somebody?” Harry asked, and you frowned. “What?”
Harry grinned, nodding at the food. “That’s food enough for four, love.”
You stuck your tongue out at him and kept taking boxes out of the bags. “I’m just doing my duties,” you told him. “You’re a growing boy, Styles.” Harry raised an eyebrow. “Growing horizontally if you keep this up, Sunshine.”
You handed him a pair of chopsticks. “So have at it, growing-horizontally boy.”
“If you insist.”
You collapsed on the couch next to him with a box of lo maine, but when he didn’t say anything and just stared thoughtfully at his food, you asked, “Penny for your thoughts?” He glanced at you, and smiled. “I found a girl,” he said.
Your jaw dropped, your eyes going comically wide. “You found a girl?”
Harry rolled his eyes. “Don’t sound so surprised.”
“Well, fuck, H, my bad, but it’s been so long I -” You cut yourself off when Harry shot you a glare. A beat of silence, and then, still grinning, you dragged out, “Soooooooooooo…” and asked, “What’s her name?” Harry smiled. “Astrid.”
“Astrid,” you echoed, pulling a face. “Sounds like a pink haired anime character.”
“You don’t even watch anime,” Harry muttered.
“Still,” you said. “Is she nice? What’s she look like? If she has pink hair I’m gonna -”
“She’s blonde, Sunny,” Harry interrupted, ignoring your glare at the nickname. “And she’s very nice. Proper smart, too - going to med school at the mo’.” You pursed your lips. “Sounds snobby.”
“She’s not.”
You shrugged, spinning noodles round your fork. “Where’d you meet her?”
Harry hesitated, and then, “Starbucks.”
You paused, looked up at him, raised a brow. “Starbucks?”
“Yeah. She’s barista-ing ‘till she gets her degree.”
“When’s your date?”
Harry hesitated, again, and told her, “Last night.”
You scoffed. “Last night?”
“Woulda gone to a pet store if I wanted a parrot, Sunshine.”
“Sunshine, my ass!” you exclaimed. “When’d you meet her?”
“Monday.”
“Monday?” you practically shrieked, talking over him when he murmured something about parrots and asking, “And you didn’t tell me this Wednesday because?” Harry shrugged. “Didn’t wanta tell you ‘bout something that would go south.”
A pause. “So it went north?”
Harry grinned. “To the stars, Sunny, she’s wonderful.”
“Really?”
“Yes, really, she’s amazing.”
A pause, again, and Harry glanced over at you, and you were smiling, just a bit, and Harry raised an eyebrow. “You’re looking at me funny, Sunshine.” You shrugged. “It’s just weird, is all.” You frowned. “When was the last time you went on a date?”
Harry flushed. “Not important.”
“Riiiiight,” you laughed, nudging him with your elbow. You settled against the couch, twirling noodles around your fork before slurping a noodle into your mouth. “So,” you went on, running your tongue over your lips, “tell me about it!”
“What?” Harry asked distractedly, his eyes flicking up to meet yours.
“The date, moron.”
Harry’s smile faded, and he shrugged, his enthusiasm suddenly lost. He looked at his food. “Erm - it was good. She’s brilliant.” You laughed, prodding him with your foot. “Gotta give me more than that, Styles. What happened to ‘to the stars’?”
“She’s really into astrology,” Harry mumbled.
You raised an eyebrow. “Hm.”
Harry rolled his eyes. “You’re not giving her a chance.”
“You’re not giving me a proper picture!” you insisted. “Give me details, dude, c’mon.”
He bit his lip, studying you for a second before looking away. “She’s… she’s perfect, Sunny. She just - she glows. And she’s so funny. She always knows what to say, too, like she can read my mind. And Christ, Sunshine, she’s gorgeous. Her smile’s brighter than the sun and…” He looked up, meeting your gaze with a lopsided smile. “And she’s got the most beautiful eyes you’ve ever seen,” he finished, his voice going quiet.
“That’s more like it!” you cheered. “Maybe I’ll give this girl a chance!”
“Yeah,” he said softly.
“Where’d you guys go?”
“Some little restaurant by the river…”
“Ooh, by the river - you walked with her, right? All romantic?”
Harry nodded. “Mhm. Saw some stars, too.
You snickered. “Did she tell you your future from the constellations?”
Harry groaned, tossing a pillow at you. “Stop itttt,” he dragged.
“Sorry, sorry,” you giggled, “please continue.”
“It was fantastic. She -”
“Wait a minute,” you interrupted. “Wait a minute, you called me this morning. At, like, eight o’clock!” Harry nodded. “Yup,” he said, and you frowned. “So you… didn’t get laid?” Harry scoffed. “Mr. Checkered Shoes over there didn’t shag you the first date, now did he?”
“Yeah, well, he’s a gentleman, and you’re a dick, so -”
“I am not!” Harry exclaimed. He smiled smugly. “Ask Astrid.”
“Oh, I will,” you replied, just as smugly. “Wanna invite her over for a movie night?”
“Abso -” He paused, frowning slightly. “Maybe later.”
You raised an eyebrow. “Later, huh? Should I send her a dm?”
“Don’t even think about it,” Harry warned, and you laughed.“Sure, sure,” you told him, wondering what a girl named Astrid would have as her Instagram handle and whether or not she’d reply to a perfect stranger’s message.
☀️☀️☀️
Harry missed the next week’s movie night because of Astrid.
You didn’t mind.
You’d been wanting to spend more time with your boyfriend, anyway.
And if you kept your phone by your side the whole night through, waiting for a heartbroken text from Harry saying it didn’t quite work out with Astrid the pink haired barista, nobody had to know.
☀️☀️☀️
Astrid’s timing was perfect. She met Harry Styles at the end of January, on a cold winter’s day just begging for a warm cup of coffee. She wasn’t even supposed to be there that day; she was supposed to take off, but the guy who was supposed to cover for her couldn’t make it because of the snow. She’d never been more miserable to live walking distance from her work than that morning.
Her mood had lifted, however, when a new face had stepped into the coffee shop. A new, dangerously gorgeous face that was grinning a swoon-worthy smile down at his cell phone when he walked in. Astrid didn’t even get annoyed when he took a call in line. Hearing him greet somebody named Sunshine with that deep, accented voice of his practically made her melt on the spot.
She felt a bit of a twinge when the man said the name of the person he was talking to, which sounded a bit feminine, but didn’t think on it too much. She managed to take his order and hand him his coffee without making a fool of herself, and the worrying started after he walked out the door.
He called the girl on the phone darling. And Sunshine. Who nicknames a friend or sister Sunshine? And the way he was grinning while he was talking to that girl - there’s no way that much fondness could be for a friend. He looked like he was walking on… well, sunshine, as he talked, and that laugh…
Well.
So her hopes fizzled out, and she was certain that was the last she’d see of him.
Until the next day, when he came back.
And this time, since Astrid wasn’t even worried about impressing a potential boyfriend, they actually had a conversation. His name was Harry, she learned that day, and he was the dorkiest, funniest man she’d ever met. Even just after a two minute conversation, Astrid wanted to be friends with this guy.
The next day, Astrid learned something even more interesting. Surprisingly, it turned out that that Sunshine girl really was just a friend, and Astrid had a date with this Harry guy that Thursday night.
The date went magnificently (of course), and he asked her out again the next week. He was like something out of a fairy tale, this guy, and Astrid was absolutely charmed. She just couldn’t wait to see him again.
☀️☀️☀️
Oliver broke up with you.
It came out of nowhere, a whispered, “I think we should take a break,” after a night out, and despite everything, you were upset. It was just weird not having him around. He was one of those guys that gave you good morning and goodnight texts and called you every night (except Fridays) just to see how you were doing.
He was pretty much the perfect boyfriend, and all you could think was that it was your fault. You just were never really into him. You loved him as a friend, but he just didn’t seem like boyfriend material. You never felt that connection.
So really, all you could do was be thankful that he’d been so civil about the break up. He hadn’t seemed too angry about anything, hadn’t made a whole big scene, just did it quietly and politely and told you he hoped you could still be friends.
Which you couldn’t be, kind of, but at least the thought was there.
Regardless, you were a single woman once again, and you had a best friend to rant to.
☀️☀️☀️
That best friend you were supposed to rant to was MIA.
The week before was fine. You understood. He wanted to be with Astrid, he had a girlfriend, whatever. And really, this week shouldn’t be any different, since - as far as you knew, anyway - the girlfriend situation was still the same.
Only difference was that he told you.
The week before, he’d sent you an emoji laden text message apologizing profusely for the fact that he wouldn’t be able to make it. This week was radio silence. After spamming his phone with text messages and calling four or five times, you’d pretty much given up. You were waiting in your apartment, forty minutes after he was supposed to come, and feeling like a loser with a capital L.
After an hour of boredom and no Harry, you decided to take things into your own hands. He’d probably forgotten (not that he’d forgotten once in all the weeks you’d been doing this) and was sitting at home, scrolling through Twitter or playing the guitar or doing whatever Harry Styles did with his free time.
So you got into your car, and drove.
☀️☀️☀️
Harry grinned when he finally shifted his key right in the door, and he pushed it open as Astrid giggled and pushed him back against it, closing it again, kissing him like there was no tomorrow. Harry kissed her back and tried not to think about how her perfume was just a bit too strong, or how she was being just a tad too aggressive with her tongue, or how he didn’t really want to go anywhere past a bit of a snog but she didn’t seem to be on the same page.
Vaguely, Harry realized the light was on, and then slightly less vaguely, he realized he hadn’t left them on, and then not vaguely at all, he heard a clink and realized there was somebody else in his flat.
He pulled away from Astrid, who whined and tried to pull him back, and turned around to see you sat on his sofa with a bowl of cereal and a pair of earbuds. Harry groaned and muttered, “One sec,” to Astrid before walking over to you and pulling the earbuds out of your ears.
“What the fuck are you doing here?” he hissed.
“Eating cereal,” you replied all too casually, holding up your bowl.
“Fuck’s sake, you’re not supposed to be here!”
You sighed. “Look, I’m sorry, but -”
Harry groaned your name, shaking his head. “No, no, no, you can’t just do this! You -”
“You know what? You didn’t show up!” you interrupted. “You didn’t show up, and ignored all my texts, and Olly broke up with me, and I was sad!” You scowled. “I was sad, and I thought you’d be here, and I wouldn’t have come over if you’d just” - you glanced behind him at Astrid who was still standing by the door - “told me you had a date!”
Harry paused. He sighed, running a hand through his hair, and shook his head.
“I’m sorry,” he said quietly. “I just -”
“Hey, Harry?” Astrid cut in from the door. “I think I’m gonna… take off…”
“No!” Harry exclaimed, spinning around. “No, no, she’s leaving! We can -”
Astrid gave an awkward laugh and shook her head. “It’s fine. I’ll see you later, Styles.”
She left, and Harry felt a bit of shame for the flash of relief he felt. He sighed and turned to you. “Happy?” he asked. You scoffed. “Happy?” you echoed. “What, you think I did this on purpose?”
Harry rolled his eyes. “You never come in unless I’m here too.”
“That’s not true.”
Harry pursed his lips, grabbing a bowl from the cabinet and pouring himself some cereal from the bag you’d so thoughtfully neglected to put back in the cabinet. He poured some milk and grabbed a spoon, and sat on the sofa next to you. “Look,” he said. “I’m sorry about Olly, alright? I just wish you would text me before coming over.”
“Never told me to before,” you grumbled. “Well, now I have a girlfriend,” Harry snapped, and then frowned, looking at the door a bit forlornly. “I did, anyway, although I’m not so sure she’ll come back after -”
“You guys’ll be fine, H, calm down,” you interrupted, rolling your eyes as you chased a fruit loop around your bowl. “You’re too damn pretty to be dumped ‘cause of - what, a failed hook up session?”
Harry didn’t reply, and you looked up. He was smiling at you. Looked almost smug.
You frowned. “What?”
“You called me pretty.”
You groaned and tossed a pillow at him, which he dodged, but not without spilling a splash of milk onto the couch. “Please,” you muttered. “Have some dignity.” Harry smirked. “Oh, I’ve plenty of dignity, ‘specially after the first compliment I’ve gotten from you in years.”
“Oh, please!” you said again. “That’s just not fair.”
There was a beat of silence before Harry cleared his throat. “So, Oliver broke up with you?” You shrugged. “Yeah.” Harry nudged your foot with his. “‘m sorry,” he murmured, and you shrugged again. “Yeah,” you repeated.
“Do you want to… talk about it?” Harry asked hesitantly.
You shook your head. “Not really.”
“Wanna watch a movie?”
“Sure.”
You stirred your milk around your bowl, deep in thought, as Harry flicked on the TV and found a movie, but you looked up when you heard the beginnings of your favorite movie. You smiled, glancing over at Harry. “Thanks, H,” you said softly.
Harry grinned, putting an arm around your shoulders. “‘f course, Sunshine.”
☀️☀️☀️
“Astrid broke up with me,” Harry announced as he walked into your apartment.
You looked up from your couch, startled. It was only two days after you’d interrupted their date, and you’d been watching a TV show before he’d walked in. “Wow,” you replied, unsure what to say. “Um… I’m sorry, H.”
“Yeah,” he said, standing in front of you with his hands shoved in the pockets of his jacket. He gave a lopsided smile. “Guess I’m not too pretty to be broken up with, hm?” You laughed a bit uneasily. “Yeah, yeah, I guess not. Are you… okay?”
“I dunno. But I - I want to get out of here.”
You frowned. “And go… where?”
“Dunno,” he repeated, shrugging slightly.
“Well…”
“Christ, Sunny, c’mon,” Harry laughed, green eyes bright as he pulled you up and gently pulled you towards the door. You raised an eyebrow but let him lead you outside and into his car. “Are you sure you’re okay?” you asked as you slid into the passenger seat.
“I’m fine, Sunshine. Just wanta drive. Want some music?” he asked, already pulling out his phone. He clicked around for a second, making you frown and mutter, “If we get pulled over…”
Finally, he picked a song, and when the music poured through his speakers, you felt yourself smile as you recognized your favorite song. Harry grinned, poking you and making you giggle as he screamed out the lyrics.
Before you knew it, you were laughing and mumbling along with the song, and you were almost disappointed when the car slowed and Harry turned off the engine. You hadn’t even thought about where he’d been taking you, and you were surprised to step out of the car and onto soft grass.
You were looking up at some trees, feeling a bit intimidated by their enormous branches that towered over you in the dark night. The moon was barely visible through the leaves, and something about the whole scene felt a bit ominous.
You jumped when Harry gently touched your arm.
“Sorry,” he murmured, giving you a lopsided smile as his hand slid down to meet yours. You shivered in the cool air, letting Harry guide you through the trees. “If your way of cheering yourself up after a breakup is murdering me in a forest,” you began softly, and Harry grinned, nudging your shoulder with his. “Shoulda frisked me, Sunshine.”
You looked up to meet his eye, smiling despite yourself. “Maybe later.”
There was a beat of silence, and then Harry looked away. You continued to walk with him in silence, trying not to stress too much over the fact that you were walking hand in hand with him at night.
Your breath caught as you came to a clearing, and you felt Harry grinning as he watched your reaction. He’d brought you to a small clearing in the woods, and the scene was nothing less than magical.
The moon shone down onto the leafy ground, sparkling on the little stream that ran through the shrubs and bushes. Butterflies floated gracefully around the blooming flowers that rose from the grass, their wings iridescent in the light of the moon. Instead of ominous, the scene was calming, the humming of the insects comforting rather than scary.
“‘s pretty, isn’t it?” Harry said quietly.
“It’s gorgeous.”
He sat down in the grass, and you looked at him skeptically. “Is it wet?”
He shrugged. “Nah.”
“I’ll bite you if you’re lying,” you said.
“Is that a threat or a promise?” he said back, smirking at you.
“Christ,” you muttered, crouching down next to him a bit hesitantly before deeming it appropriately dry and plopping down next to him. “So, uh… do you want to talk about it?” you asked after a moment of quiet.
He shook his head. “No, I… I don’t.”
You let your gaze linger on his face even as he looked away, and then sighed and asked, “How’d you even find this place?” Harry shrugged. “Dunno.” You grinned, nudging him with your shoulder. “Are you walking alone in the woods a lot, H?” you said teasingly. “Should I be worried?”
“Only for yourself,” he told you with a smirk.
You frowned. “What the hell does that mean?”
Harry grinned at you and leaned in, giving you a whiff of sweet cologne and mint. “You forgot to frisk me, Sunny,” he said lowly, and he was so close that you were momentarily flustered before you laughed and gently pushed him away from you.
Silence came back, settling comfortably between the two of you, and after a minute, you yawned, resting your head on his shoulder. “This is nice,” you murmured. Harry nodded. “Yeah,” he said.
You looked up, keeping your chin on his shoulder. He looked positively ethereal, his profile glowing in the soft moonlight. He glanced at you after a second and smiled a bit. “You’re staring, Sunshine.”
“Did you really like Astrid?” you whispered.
His smile faded. “What kind of question is that?”
“You, um… Well, you’re awful chirpy for someone who just got broken up with.”
He looked down. “I dunno.”
“Don’t think you’ve ever had a serious girlfriend since I’ve known you.”
He still didn’t meet your eye. “Just haven’t found the right girl yet.”
A beat of silence, and then you spoke, your voice coming out barely a whisper.
“Are you sure?”
That was when he looked at you.
“No,” he said.
You sat up, swallowing thickly. “Hey, H?”
“Yeah?”
“Can I kiss you?”
A slow smile grew on Harry’s face. “Yeah,” he murmured.
It was like a dam broke, then, and everything came rushing out, because you felt like you’d about die if you didn’t kiss him that very second. So you did. You kissed him, and the world stopped, and everything felt like it went frozen.
Time came to a grinding halt as your lips met his, and you swore you stopped breathing.
And then Harry pulled back. He was grinning. “Yeah,” he laughed, and you shifted into his lap as he kissed you again, and that was when the world slammed back into motion. It was a damn Disney movie in your mind, the world spinning around the two of you as butterflies appeared out of nowhere and blue birds flew in dizzying circles around your head.
You were both laughing, smiling against each other as you kissed each other breathless.
You never ever wanted to leave his side again.
☀️☀️☀️
Harry always says that you glow.
He likes to say you’re a star; in your actions, in your words, in your very being. He loves to gush compliments over you, drowning you in sweet words and affectionate touches and letting you know just how much he loves you. And sure, most of that takes place through drowsy giggles in the wee hours of the morning, but hey - still counts, right?
Either way, he sure does compare you to a star a lot, but at least now you can prove it to him. Now, you can kiss him back and drown him in sweet words and affectionate touches. Now, you can whisper I love yous as he presses featherlight kisses against your cheeks and eyelashes. Now, you can hold him and love him and do whatever you damn well please, because now, you’re not just any sunshine - you’re his Sunshine.

What Is and What Should Never Be
(A great big thank you to @brownskinsugarplum76 for being my beta for this fic)
Chapter One
I don’t know how I got here, on this plane, or even how I came to be curled up in the arms of a man I barely knew. So much had happened in such a short time, starting earlier in the week.
Monday, my friend asked me to go to a concert with her. It was to see Led Zeppelin. She had introduced me to their music a year ago. I could admit that I liked their music, but concerts weren’t really my thing. Too much of a stick in the mud, as she would say. But I knew how much it meant to her to go, so I agreed.
Tuesday I went in for my scheduled check-up appointment and found out I was pregnant, to my surprise. My boyfriend and I had been careful, or so I thought. To make matters worse, said boyfriend of two years, I might add, broke up with me then and there. Even had the balls to accuse me of sleeping around.
Wednesday and Thursday I was crying my eyes out still, to the point of making myself sick no matter how much my friend tried to comfort me. Friday afternoon saw us driving to the hospital when I started having contractions and I had a miscarriage. After a couple of hours of observation, I was sent home with a prescription for pain medication in case I needed it.
The rest of Friday was spent arguing over whether to still go to the concert the next night or not. My friend argued it was probably too soon for me, and she didn’t want to leave me by myself. I argued that she should still go because she had been waiting so long to see her favorite band play live.
Eventually, I proposed a compromise. We would both still go together, rationalizing that she would still get to be there, and she wouldn’t be abandoning me in the process. She was reluctant at first, but eventually gave in. We picked our outfits for the concert and set them out and then listened to Houses of the Holy as we got ready for bed.
Saturday morning was spent getting ready for that evening. Once there at the concert, though, my mood seemed to shift for the worse. Sadness, depression and the occasional thoughts of suicide, something I hadn’t told my friend about, shifted to a fight or fuck instinct. I was hoping to fuck more than fight, but things don’t always work out how you want.
I was eyeing the frontman like he was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen before. And I had been drinking for quite some time by that point, despite my friend’s efforts. I was swaying my hips to the music, finally forgetting the past few days and losing myself to a desire I wasn’t expecting as I watched the frontman dance around the stage.
“Give it up, sweetheart. You’re never getting a piece of that.” I heard another female voice from my left side, and that was all it took for fight to take over. Before I could think about the consequences of my actions, I turned and took a swing at her, hitting her square in the nose. Security separated us before it could escalate, but instead of dragging me outside, I found myself plopped down on a couch next to my friend.
I was vaguely aware that there were others in the room as well. Three, actually. One was on the couch with us, talking to my friend. Across the room at a table were two others talking among themselves though they would look over now and then. My eyes had gone blurry, either from being that drunk or because I was starting to tear up again and trying to hide it, I wasn’t sure.
A few minutes later and the door opened again and two more figures entered. Even though I couldn’t make out any details, I could tell one man was large and intimidating. It made me curl up into a ball and hide my face in my friend’s back. I heard hushed arguing, or maybe my hearing had been affected by the alcohol too? But then I felt the couch dip on my other side and a hand gently rubbed my back. I couldn’t help melting into it and began to relax.
The next thing I knew, I was curled into a hard body, my head resting on a shoulder and my fingers twisted around ringlets of long golden-bronze hair with hints of copper. I smiled briefly as I was somehow reminded of a beach where I often played at as a child; a place that always brought me comfort. I took a moment to take in the rest of my immediate surroundings and found an expanse of golden tanned skin, a chest, with a smattering of dark blonde hair.
Slowly, I looked up, following a path up his bared chest and up his long neck until our eyes met. Such beautiful stormy blue eyes they were. He was looking at me with a kind of fascination and I know my breath hitched when I realized who I was now staring at. He looked so much younger than he was at that moment. When I tried to disentangle myself from him, he held me in place with a gentle arm around my waist and pulled my hand back towards his hair as if he wanted it there.
“Don’t go, darlin, please. Stay.”
How could I deny those pleading eyes? Swallowing hard, I returned to my previous position in his lap and curled his hair around my finger again. I was at once grateful for the comfort he seemed to provide me and afraid of it. Because I knew if I relaxed enough, everything from the week up to this point would catch up to me. Point in fact, I was already starting to feel the prick of tears behind my eyes. Just when I thought I was all out...
Inhaling a shaky breath, I curled myself further into the man beneath me, burying my face into his chest, as if trying to crawl inside him to hide from the world. I felt his other hand come up to cradle the back of my head, and he made a confused, helpless sound at the back of his throat. I tried to voice that my tears were in no way his fault, but sound wouldn’t come. My throat was too tight to speak and I didn’t trust my voice not to shake, and tremble anyway.
“Anjelika?” I heard my friend call, then felt the surface behind me dip as someone sat down behind me. “Oh, honey, I’m sorry. I thought this would help you get your mind off of things.”
“What happened?”
“I don’t know if she’d be ok with me saying. I do know her enough to know she wouldn’t want to be crying in front of everyone. Is there somewhere more private?”
“Yeah, in the back.” I felt his arms shift, one remaining on my back while the other slid under my legs, just behind my knees. He stood, taking me with him and carried me down a small hallway; moments later I was placed on a rather soft surface. A bed, from the feel of it, too soft to be anything else.
I still clung to him as if it might save my life and he lay down beside me. “It’s alright, darlin’, not going anywhere if you don’t want me to.” He wrapped an arm around my waist, as if to prove his point.
My friend sat on the bed behind me, rubbing my back comfortingly. “Is it alright if Jimmy stays?” She asked. I lifted my head up and turned to look back, seeing the dark haired man who she had been fawning over standing by the door. I nodded in agreement, more for her sake than my own. Jimmy sat down next to my friend and I turned my attention to the man holding me.
“We never did get to make proper introductions, did we, darlin’? I’m Robert.”
“Anjelika,” I introduced myself through a sniffle.
“Angelic,” he whispered reverently, brushing my hair away from my face. “Do ya know how appropriate your name is, darlin’?”
I blushed despite myself and smiled weakly up into his gorgeous blue eyes. “You’re too kind, Robert. Which is also rather appropriate for you.” My tears were starting to subside because this man made me feel better about myself. Because he made me feel wanted.
He laughed, “I suppose it is!” He took a moment to gently wipe away the tear tracks from my cheeks with a feather light touch. He kissed my forehead then, though the kiss was soft and lingering. “Do you want to talk about what happened?” He asked softly.
I didn’t really, but acknowledged that if I did, it might help somehow. Taking a deep breath, I explained what had happened earlier in the week, the pregnancy, the breakup, losing the baby just the night before... everything.
“Are you alright, love?” The accent was thicker than Robert’s, so I assumed it was Jimmy.
“Oh, darlin’. Anjelika, I’m so sorry that happened to you.” Robert held me tighter then, pressing another soft kiss on my cheek. A few more tears escaped my eyes, but I didn’t break down again.
Desperate to change the subject, I asked Robert, “You’re a fan of Tolkien, yeah?” I recalled my friend telling me that.
He smiled in response. “I am. Even have a book or two in my bag. Did you want to borrow one, darlin’?”
I bit my lip to suppress a shy smile. “Read to me?”
“Great, now I gotta listen to him talk the entire flight! He never shuts up as it is!” Jimmy mock complained.
“Quiet you,” Robert teased back, “everyone loves the sound of my voice! Besides, how do you expect me to deny the beautiful lady a request?”
“Willpower?”
Robert just rolled his eyes and shook his head before he got up to retrieve one of his books. When he returned to the bed, he sat with his back against the headboard and found where he left off in the book. With the invitation of joining him with a slight tilt of his head, I sat up as well, finding my place pressed against his side with his arm holding me close. As he read to me from the book, his voice so soft, lulled me back to sleep.
I woke up briefly, looking up at Robert. He was still reading from his book, so I probably hadn't been asleep long. I reached up and traced the lines of his cheekbone and jawline, thinking how much his features were feline-like. That and his wild hair, reminding me of a lion’s mane. “My lion,” I whispered softly, making him stop and look down at me, but I had already fallen back asleep.
I was woken again by the feel of Robert’s fingers running through my hair. “We’re about to land, darlin’. Time to wake up.”

Fanfiction gray blue eyes
Jin Ling noticed that he was spending a lot of time with Ouyang Zizhen when he was walking his dog and a pretty boy whistled him loudly.
N/A: Idk what I’m doing, I just saw memes about Jin Ling x Lan Jingyi and I fell in love with the ship haha. A-Yuan is a Wen in this AU.
For the #CultivaTober2020, sorry if my English sucks.
Day 21: Calamity .
Jin Ling noticed he was spending a lot of time with Ouyang Zizhen when he was walking the dog in the nearest park, his uncle Jiang Cheng was sick of viewing him all day in bed just because his only friend isn't in the city for the weekend.
"Get out the house and do something!" he yelled at him after the lunch.
A fucking winter Sunday’s afternoon.
What the hell?
Jin Ling was considerating go the weekends to uncle Jin Guangyao's house. Uncle Cheng has been his favorite uncle since he has memory, but sometimes the man is too intense for someone like him and uncle Yao was more chill than him. He wouldn't judge him because he wanted to stay in his room because he was bored without his best friend around.
After all, Ouyang Zizhen is his childhood friend. So every time he isn’t here annoying Jin Ling with his fanfics or fandom wars, Jin Ling has nothing better to do.
Pathetic, he knows.
But who cares?
Jin Ling never was good doing friends in first place, but he liked Zizhen kind personality when they met in Rusong's birthday and when his uncle Yao encouraged him to befriend with the other boy they became inseparable.
At first, it made happy his uncle Chen, who was delighted with the idea that his nephew would have a good friend after his parents death.
Now, Jin Ling didn't know if his uncle Cheng was annoyed that Zizhen was his only friend or what.
Rusong doesn't count as a friend, he is family. His only cousin.
Perhaps he should talk to this guy who lives the next block and ignore his uncle Cheng advice to not talk with that neightboors, he liked his black leather bomber jacket and quiet personality. Plus they go to the same school, they shares English, History and Sports classes. Even Teacher Lan Qiren loved the guy.
Well, Teacher Lan Qiren liked everyone but Jin Chan.
Jin Ling was pondering about this match when he noticed that Fairy destroyed the lotus pond in garden again. Crap.
Uncle Cheng will kill him.
"Sometimes I don't know if you love me or you hate me." Mumbled Jin Ling as he takes Fairy with him, looking around before to go outside the house.
Unfortunatelly, Wen Yuan wasn’t at home when he passed out of his house.
You could notice this because the house was silent as a crypt, usually when Wen Yuan or his Dad were in the house someone played the flute and other instruments all day. Jin Ling swears he could hear them from his room sometimes.
Geez the man was musician or something like that.
However, he decided to go to the park. Hoping the snow could cover Fairy’s calamity before his uncle Cheng noticed anything. His uncle would love dogs dearly, but it was his lotus pond.
Uncle Cheng loved that lotus pond.
Jin Ling sigh, suspecting that the park was less crowded at this hour.
He wasn’t a fan of winter, neither the snow. Cold was burning his cheeks and Fairy paws, but Jin Ling take the route to the south where were stablished places for dogs. Yet the dog-friendly drinking fountains were already frozen, he knew this place was beautiful in Spring, but now were just the trees and the snow. Not fragrant flowers around.
Yunmeng was so different in winter, thought Jin Ling. Lost in thoughts when someone whistles at him loudly.
Jin Ling twitched.
He looked over at the sound, a part of him was offended while the other really liked what he saw. A pretty boy wearing running at him, wearing white clothes and blue headphones hanging in the neck. Gods, the boy had the most glossy black hair that Jin Ling has ever seen in his life. He just couldn’t stop noticing the perfect way than an hair bangs framed his handsome features and those fanfiction gray blue eyes… Damn Zizhen! Fucking fanfics he read all day!
Nevermind. He was rude.
“Excuse me?"
The pretty boy frowned, blushing when he noticed the misunderstanding and said "Sorry, I didn't wanted to... that was for your dog!"
What?
Jin Ling looked at Fairy and cocked an eyebrow.
Well, people liked huskies a lot. Since his uncle Yao give him a dog for his birthday, he always get stopped by people who wanted to pet Fairy when he go to walk his dog.
“Really?”
"Yeah." The pretty boy said as a beautiful smile rested easily on his lips when he whistled again at Fairy and the dog just wagged the tail friendly.
Fuck, even Fairy liked him.
“Maybe it could be rude from me, but would you let me pet your dog?” He asked, using all his charms when he looked right into Jin Ling's eyes.
Jin Ling tried to control his heart, but he couldn't.
Why is my heart racing? He wondered. He couldn't fall in love at first sight, right?
“You don’t have to do if you don’t want it.” Added the boy, noticing his uncomfortable behavior.
”I don’t mind, go ahead."
The pretty boy didn't hesitate to bent and stroke Fairy's ears, enjoying the fluffy fur. "She is so fluffy. What's her name?"
"Fairy."
"That's a cute name for a dog, did you chose it?"
If Jin Ling didn't fell already for his fanfiction grey blue eyes, he fell in that moment. "Actually, it was my uncle idea."
"Seems like your uncle has an original way to name dogs."
Jin Ling grinned.
He was going to say something more when a voice interrumpted them, breaking the spell.
“A-Yi, we are leaving!”
“Ugh, that's my Dad. See you next time!” He said as he got up and runned to the other side of the park, but Jin Ling wasn't sure if he was talking to him or his dog.
The pretty boy waved bye into distance, smiling.
But Jin Ling don’t waved bye back, he was this skilled with people.
Specially with the people that he liked.
.     ·  ✦
His phone beeps that night.
Zizhen was bored, he knew that. Zizhen didn’t get along with the sons of his father’s friends in the parties.
Jin Ling read the message, raising an eyebrow.
Zizhen:
Missing your grumbling ass ︶︿︶
.     ·  ✦
For wednesday, Jin Ling can’t stop thinking about those fanfiction gray blue eyes or the kissable lips. He had this awful feeling like a hundred of golden butterflies were flying in his stomach every time he thought about the pretty boy in the park.
Gods, he became this such of weirdo.
Sure Zizhen will have a good laugh at his expense when he noticed that his friend had a big fat crush on a pretty boy named A-Yi.
Well, it wasn’t a name. But it was something.
His crush was so overwhelming that he decided went to Wen Yuan house without knowing what he could talk with the guy, they barely knew each other. Maybe Jin Ling didn’t wanted to talk much and just needed Wen Yuan’s Dad loud music so he can’t hear his own thoughts about how that pretty boy made him feel.
When he went inside the house, Wen Yuan’s Dad looked surprised that his boy take a someone at home. He even stopped drinking alcohol before to talk.
He introduced himself with a bright smile “Wei Wuxian. Wine?”
“Dad, please no.”
“A-Yuan, your friend needs it more than me”, Wei Wuxian pointed his face.  “Look at him! He seems too devastated to be that young.”
Jin Ling frowned, understanding why his uncle Cheng told him to no talk with the neighbour in first place.
He was so gross.
“Okay, okay. Your old man wouldn’t shaming you in front of your boyfriend.”
“Oh my God, Dad. Why are you like this??” Yuan blushed, really ashamed while his father seemed to have a good laugh at his own son expense.
“Forgive your old man, little radish. Old habits never dies.”
Yuan put a hand to his face. “Sorry, Jin Ling. I swears he’s not like that all the time.”
“I'm going to pretend that I don't hear it.” Jin Ling mumbled, without knowing if he was going to regret coming to Wen Yuan house or not.
“I got the feeling that your face was familiar, are you A-Cheng’s boy?”
The question caught Jin Ling off guard.
“Do you know my uncle?”
“He never talked about me?? What a friend!” He complained, taking another sip of wine “We were childhood friends, best friends actually.”
Jin Ling doubted, seriously.
However, later Wei Wuxian show him an old photo where a younger version of himself was here with Jin Ling's mother and uncle. It were just the three of them, smiling at the camera in Jin Ling's grandparents house.
Jin Ling looked at the photo, admiring how pretty was his mom at that age.
The three of them seemed so happy that Jin Ling wondered what happened, why he didn’t knew this man and why his uncle Cheng told him never speak a word with him.
And for a moment, his mind stop thinking about some fanfiction gray blue eyes.
Well, until monday when he went to school and the Teacher Lan Qiren introduced a new student. The pretty boy, Lan Jingyi.
Fuck, he had a crush on Lan Qiren grandson.
He was really fucked.

Moving Day DID NOT Go As Planned
Last time we moved, we vowed we weren't doing it that way again. We rented a U-Haul, asked some friends for help, loaded all of our belongings into a truck, drove them to our next place, and unloaded all of our stuff. "Next time," we said, "next time we're hiring movers."
Tumblr media
And this time, we did. We found a service called Bellhop, they had good rates. We booked our move for Friday the 23rd of July. We closed on our new house two weeks before, and we needed to be out of our rental by the 31st. That would give us a week to make sure we left the property in the same condition we found it in.
By the time the movers got there at 2:00pm on Friday, I had already emptied the basement into two separate storage units by transporting boxes in my car. I packed up the library, thousands of books, and moved all of those over to the new place myself. We packed up all our DVDs and Blu-rays, and moved all of them into storage along with the shelving we used to display them. We'd packed up most of the kitchen (the counter-tops were still full of stuff from the cabinets we emptied, we figured we had a week to pack and move the stragglers) and moved the boxes to the front room. We packed up the bedroom and the nursery, and moved most of those boxes to the front room. We left some boxes stacked in the nursery.
We bought a new couch for the new house and were getting rid of the old one. So we told them we didn't need the couch moved. We had some loose items that hadn't made it into boxes on the couch, which also, was not their concern. We showed them the front room, said we needed those boxes, the curio cabinet, computer desk, leave the couch, the desk we used as a TV stand, the TV (surround sound, 4k player, cable box had already been packed and moved), from the kitchen, just the small table, microwave, washer and dryer. No need to move the refrigerator, or the stove, they belonged in the house. Upstairs, we needed two beds, the crib, chest of drawers, computer desk, TV, a nightstand, an etagere, and two small filing cabinets moved.
By this time, a full three quarters of our belongings had already been moved into storage or into the new house. The movers were supposed to come with the expectation that they were moving a two story, two bedroom house into a three bedroom two story house. After they stepped outside and conferred amongst themselves, they came back in and said they were going to need to re-schedule the move … — Scuse, please? You don't re-schedule a fucking move. Moving day is moving day, come hell or high water. Period. Full stop. End of story.
Upon questioning, they said it was to give us more time to prepare for the move … — Scuse, please? For two months we've been spending our evenings and weekends packing and moving the majority of our belongings out of this fucking house while working full time jobs and raising a child. My entire library is already moved, all of the end tables, my massive mixed media collection … two storage units, a 10x10 and a 5x10, and a good portion of my new house was already full of my stuff that I already moved there prior to moving day. What the fuck do you want me to do, take apart all the furniture? That's kind of the point of hiring movers. I don't want to mess with that. I don't want to do it so much, that I'm willing to pay someone else to do it. That's the whole point of hiring the work out.
Anyway, they left and after we picked our jaws up off the floor at the sheer fucking audacity of what had just happened, we re-grouped and scrambled to find a U-Haul truck available at 2:00 pm on a Friday afternoon in late July. Luckily, we found a twenty-six foot truck available. I reserved it, we went and picked it up. It was jacked up. The brake light kept coming on and beeping at me. The brakes seemed fine, and if I turned the truck off and back on again, it stopped until it decided to start up with the beeping again.
I got the truck home at 4:30 pm, and we immediately started loading it as fast as we could. The goal was to get as much as we possibly could into the truck, loading our bed and Rowan's crib last, so we could get the truck to our new house, and unload the crib and bed, get them set up by a fairly reasonable time, go to sleep, and save the rest of the unloading for morning. We stopped loading and headed to our new home around 9:00 pm. We were tired, sweaty, dirty, we hurt all over. And to think — the plan had been to sit back and point at things while we watched fit, muscular men move all our stuff for us. We'd paid good money for it, after all.
I think we got to sleep around 3:00 am the next morning. Nothing went quite as planned. When we got back home with the U-Haul, we realized we didn't have any of Rowan's food, nor her milk, nor any food for us, and we didn't have Sammy's dog food. So, I left Jay to fight with getting Rowan's crib re-assembled on his own while I ran to Kroger and obtained sustenance for my family.
In the morning, I tried to secure the truck for another day. It was already booked. Every 26 foot truck in a 30 mile radius was booked. I tried to get a smaller truck, any truck, for the rest of our stuff. I kept calling all of the U-Haul locations near me. Nobody had a truck. Finally, I called the national number, and they did find a 20 foot truck. So, while Jay dropped Rowan off at his friend Linda's house, I unloaded what I could of the U-Haul. When Jay got back, we unloaded the two-man objects. We went to the U-Haul, swapped out the trucks, and drove back to our old house for round two.
Jay headed back in the car to go pick up Rowan at around 7:00 pm. I kept loading until around 8:30, then drove the second truckload of furniture and boxes back to our new home. We had no plans to unload that night. We would unload in the morning, return the truck, and bring two more carloads home that evening, my Versa and his Optima. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of the next week, I drove the Versa over to the old place after work and brought home a carload. Thursday, we took both cars, we made two trips with the Versa and one with the Optima. Friday, we brought both cars again, loaded them up, and finally got everything out of the old place that we meant to take.
Saturday, July 31st, eight days after some jackasses with no work ethic told us we needed to reschedule our move, I drove to the rental office and dropped off our keys.
I think that in many ways, in some states, when executed properly, the gig economy can be a good thing. In states that have adopted the Affordable Care Act, where self-employed individuals can find affordable health care options, and sensible tax codes. I think it has the potential to be good for workers, employers, and consumers alike. I rely quite heavily on services like Instacart, Shipt, Doordash, and Amazon, all of whom employ gig workers to make deliveries, do the shopping, etc. Most of the time they do a phenomenal job. And when they don't, it's usually because the person you lucked into getting is fairly new, in over their heads, not cut out for the job, and likely won't last long before they seek out something more suitable for them.
But a moving company is not suited for gig workers at all. Moving a person's belongings with the care and respect they deserve is a learned skill that most people don't possess. Let's face it, Americans love their things. Their shiny baubles. Their found treasures. I was already nervous that the movers might just be careless and break things without a thought. I was nervous that they wouldn't show at all. I didn't imagine they'd show up and then go, "Meh, too hard."
We wanted professional movers, and they sent us college kids with no work ethic, no sense of obligation to honor an agreement, and absolutely no clue what goes into moving all of ones belongings from one house to another. Every time I think back, I think up fresh, new ways I should have berated them as they beat a hasty retreat from my rented property.
Next time we move, I swear, we're hiring professional movers.

Lockdown with the Malfoys
My piece for the @lockdownfest! Thank you @magpiefngrl for the beta♥️ Find it on AO3 here! Or read further here:
Harry sighed, taking another sip from his wine. It was Friday evening, and that meant Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy came by for dinner, something Draco had insisted on as Sundays were spent with the Weasleys. Now he truly loved his husband, but these dinners? They were just awful. Well, not entirely. Narcissa was kind enough and made conversation with both of them, but Lucius. Well.. He did not. When the elder Malfoy spoke, it was mainly towards Draco and Narcissa, Harry being ignored. The few times that Lucius did speak to him it was with a sneer. Lucius loved his son, there was no doubt about that, but he just didn't like his choice of partner. After all, Harry, in Lucius’s words, had ruined his life. Each time Lucius said so Narcissa hexed him and Draco reprimanded his father for it. Yes, those were the best moments of these dinners.
He was just about to think of these fond moments, when an owl flew inside. All conversations stilled as the owl dropped the letter from his beak. It was a howler with the Ministry seal.
"Dear Wizard or Witch, the Ministry of Magic has decided to take each and everyone into quarantine. The new form of dragon pox can no longer be contained. If you are in a building that is deemed safe by the Ministry then you will stay there and won't be able to leave until further notice. Have a pleasant day. "
And with those words, the howler ripped itself to shreds, and Harry's hell began. At first Lucius had sprung up and went to the floo, trying to use it, but it was already locked down. The same went for the front door that Harry went to check, so the elder Malfoys were allowed to leave. But no luck.
With no other option than to stay, Draco showed his mother and father a room they could make use of. After all, Grimmauld Place had enough empty rooms. Harry himself went to his own room and undressed before getting into bed. It didn't take long before Draco joined him.
"Don't worry. It probably won't take so long. And I put them on the second floor, so we will still have our privacy."
"Yeah, alright. Let's hope it will be only a few days. Goodnight love." With that Harry pulled Draco close before falling asleep.
--
The next morning the drama started right away.
Having forgotten that the elder Malfoys were still here, Harry had wandered into the kitchen, dressed in only some briefs. It took a choked up sound for him to realize his mistake. Looking up, he saw Lucius turning green. He blushed, and at this Narcissa just smiled.
"Good morning Harry," she said.
"Morning. I will just... eh get dressed first," and with those words he ran back upstairs.
They didn't see each other further that day, but at dinner Lucius turned to Draco.
"Can't you teach your husband proper etiquette?"
"Excuse me?"
"He went into the kitchen in only his briefs! It is not proper and ruined my appetite."
"I forgot you were there," Harry interrupted.
"Then I suggest you remember it more carefully in the coming days," Lucius answered.
"Father, it was just a mistake, it's the same when you saw me getting changed once. It won't happen again," Draco assured his father before Harry could answer anything else.
"Good."
The rest of dinner went without any problems.
--
However, being under dressed was just the first mistake that happened.
On Sunday Harry walked early into the kitchen, this time dressed, to get a cup of tea and to prepare a tray to bring breakfast in bed to Draco
Only Lucius walked in looking far less than perfect. His hair was tangled, bags under his eyes and if Harry was not mistaken the man was wearing sweatpants.
"Not a word," the man had hissed before stalking away.
---
On Monday afternoon Draco and he had been on the couch in the living room, watching a movie which had soon changed into a snogging session. Just as Harry's hands had wandered under Draco's shirt, the door had opened and Draco's parents had walked in.
Both sides stared at each other, Draco's and Lucius' face getting red. Narcissa pulled Lucius outside again by the hand, with a cheeky "Have fun" to Draco and him.
--
Wednesday evening Harry had cooked the wrong dinner. It had too much garlic and would make everyone smell terrible and make any conversation impossible.
So Lucius had refused to eat it. It hadn't helped when Harry hadn't been able to stop throwing some garlic at the man's head.
--
However, all of this was nothing, absolutely nothing to what happened Friday morning. When Harry woke up, Draco's side of the bed was empty and the shower on their floor was running. After stretching for a bit, Harry decided to join his husband in the shower. After undressing and taking his glasses off, he put a towel around his waist to cover his bits and walked to their bathroom.
Once inside he dropped the towel and opened the shower door.
"Hey love. Room for one more?"
A piercing scream was the answer and that's when Harry realized it wasn't Draco that was using their shower.
"Oh fuck!" he scrambled backwards quickly, grabbing his towel and ran back to his room. Lucius, cursing, followed him.
In the room Harry dressed before he sat down on bed, thinking about how he could still flee the country in the middle of a lockdown.
He didn't come up with any ideas. So deciding to meet his fate, he walked downstairs for breakfast. It felt a lot like when he walked towards Voldemort that one night. Only worse.
Once in the kitchen he sat down at the table. Lucius refused to meet his eyes or even look at him; however both Narcissa and Draco were snickering, probably having got the horrifying story from Lucius.
He was just about to apologize when another howler from the Ministry arrived.
"Dear Wizard or Witch. From today on you may use the floo to go home or visit family. Greetings, the Ministry."
The message barely ended before Lucius got up and hurried his way to the floo.
"Goodbye, Draco. Next time you may come visit us." He floo'ed away, not even sparing a look for Harry.
"Well, I suppose I will go home too. Take care boys" With a hug to both of them, Narcissa followed her husband and floo'ed home as well.
"Well now we finally have the home to ourselves again. How about a nice shower?" Draco asked, but he couldn't keep the laughter out his voice at the end.
"Oh, I will get you for that, Malfoy."
"Of course you will, but at least I haven't seen Father naked and wanted to share a shower with him." his husband ran away, laughing as Harry chased after him.

Baby Blues 3/?
Summary: To sleep of not to sleep? Ace answers that question for both his exhausted parents.
Warnings: none
A/N: Sorry if there are typos, I'm literally typing out the last part on my phone. Storm knocked my power out... again 😡
~~~~~~
12 Days Old
Alex swung her feet out of the bed, the rest of her hadn’t fully woken up yet. She didn’t know what time it was, the days were only a little hazy. She knew Ace spit up on her on Saturday because he peed on Chris the day before during his bath. And then Sunday, he was fine because Chris’s mom, Lisa, said how much of an angel he was during her visit. And then Monday he cried for most of the morning because Dodger licked his foot. So she concluded that it was early Tuesday morning, or late Monday night. Or maybe it was Wednesday afternoon and she just had the blackout curtains keeping the light out.
Ace’s crying woke her completely out of her daze.
“I got him.” she yawned to Chris, trudged out of the room and down the hall to the nursery.
Alex prided herself in learning Ace's different cries so quickly. Any soft whimpering cries were just when he wanted attention or to be held. If he needed to be changed then he'd grunt a little between cries. A full on wailing cry meant he was hungry. And right now he was hungry.
"Al." Chris half whined from the armchair. He had Ace laying against his bare chest and rocking him side to side "I tried to get him to sleep, I changed his diaper. The skin to skin contact isn't working."
"I thought you were in the bed. How long have you been in here?"
"About an hour, when he first woke up. I'm trying everything."
"Except breast feeding." Alex smirked and took Ace from Chris. He pulled her into his lap, resting his head on her shoulder and watched Ace latch onto Alex, his crying stopped instantly.
"Yay." He yawned
“Just like his daddy: only content when he has my boob in his mouth.”
Chris half snorts and tickled Alex in her side. Ace gurgled, the corner of his lips twitching slightly.
“Was that a smile?” Chris asked
“No, his lip always does that when I feed him.” Alex met her son’s eyes, his eyelids getting heavy
“Are you finally gonna let us sleep for more than two hours?” Chris playfully squeezed Ace’s foot, receiving a strong wet burp in response
Alex silently cheered that Ace didn't put up much of a fight in going back to sleep, and she and Chris were able to make it back to their own bed without Ace waking up again.
"Chris." Alex nudged him with her foot "You know what I'm in the mood for?"
Chris smirked "As much as I'd like to, I'm tired and you still have your stitches."
She slapped his chest "Not that. Pancakes for breakfast?"
"Sure." He pulled her close to his side, his fingers dancing up and down her arm "Al, remember when I told you about my next project. The one filming here in Boston."
"Yeah, Defending Jacob, did something go wrong with it?"
"No, nothing's wrong, they just moved the filming schedule up, and we start in two weeks."
She turned her head towards Chris "But you weren't supposed to start until next month."
"I know, I know. But the good thing is, after we get back from Mexico, I'll be home more often compared to when I'm usually off filming. So I'll still be here you with and Alexander."
"Mexico? Why are you going to Mexico?"
"Part of it takes place in Mexico, we’re shooting there first. Remember you were about seven months along with Ace and I asked you if you'd want to take him as long as he had his shots?"
Alex groaned, the conversation coming back to her clearly. If the filming schedule had stayed the same, Alex would've been more comfortable taking Ace out of the country after getting his shots. And although she swore she'd never be like her mom, who would've condemned her to bed if she so much as sneezed, taking Ace to a new country before 3 months wasn't ideal.
“We did talk about it, and he won’t be getting his shots for another few weeks.” Alex rolled onto her back, mostly to hide the disappointment on her face
“Are you gonna be okay here?”
“Yeah, it’s not the first time you’ve been away for work.”
“True, but now we have Ace.” his hand absentmindedly going to rest on her stomach, a habit he picked up within the past few months. "I know it's not fair me to just leave you with him-"
"It's fine, I’m with him most of the time anyways.”
“I’m with him too." Chris stated in defense
Alex looked over to Chris’s face “I didn’t mean it like that. I just meant, I can handle him on my own until you come back.”
“You sure?"
“I’m sure. And I’m going to sleep before-”
Ace let out another cry, this time he wanted attention.
***
Alex gently rocked the cradle swing next to the couch, Ace’s crying finally subsided. Her head drooped down, whatever she had on the TV went unwatched and with Dodger laying on her feet to keep them warm, sleep was soon ready to take over.
“Al, what are you doing?” Chris asked
“Rocking Ace to sleep.” she yawned
Chris looked down at his son, sleeping in his arms, then to Dodger’s stuffed lion in the cradle. He’d never seen his wife this sleep deprived.
She was up and down with Ace the rest of the night, each time she'd laid her head down he'd cry, to the point where she just slept in the armchair in the nursery, with Ace sleeping in her arms. When Chris came to relieve her, so she could eat, she was so out of it that she didn't even notice Chris taking Ace and replacing him with Dodger's toy lion. He was surprised to actually see her make it to the living room without realizing it.
"Al," Chris nudged her shoulder "go lay down honey, I got Ace."
She whined, almost similar to Ace's cry, but forced herself off the couch.
"You'll call me when he's hungry." She jabbed a finger in Chris's direction. It wasn't a suggestion.
"Yep." Chris waited until Alex was out if the living room before he took his phone out, and quickly dialed a number. He was grateful to hear the voice after just three rings.
"Hi, how are you.... Same, no Alexander is fine. It's Alex I'm calling for... No, nothing's wrong it's just..." Chris sighed "I was wondering if you could do us both a huge favor..."
A Holly Jolly Hoax: Part 1 - t.h.
Pairing: Tom Holland x Reader
Summary: Tom agrees to pretending to be your boyfriend for a Christmas getaway with your extended family. Who you just so happen to not get along with.
Part: 1/x
Word Count: 2.1k
“Hey, do you wanna pretend to be my boyfriend for the holidays?”
I had asked one snowy night at the beginning of December. It was just a joke and I hadn’t imagined Tom would take it seriously, but all he did was shrug and say, “Sure.”
“Wait, seriously? Are you sure? I wasn’t being serious when I said that I hope you know,” I dropped my phone into my lap and leaned backwards, letting my head hang off the back of the couch so I could see him.
“Why not? I know you said your extended family sucks, think of it as a friend helping a friend,” he shrugged, grabbing a bottle of water from the fridge. “Plus, I know from experience your mum’s cookies are the best there is.”
Mmm, my mom does make great cookies.
“Cookies? That’s what gets you?!” I shook my head, “You’re ridiculous.”
He plopped down next to me, wrapping me up into his side.
“You don’t have to if you don’t want to, you know. I don’t want you to miss out on the time with your family,” I pulled back so I could look at him.
“Ehh, I’ve had 23 years with them. It’s time to switch it up a little,” he winked.
“Thank you...You’re the best, Tom,” I grinned, leaning back into his side.
The next few weeks were spent learning everything about each other that we would know if we were actually a couple. Which side of the bed we sleep on, what we were like in the morning, everything. Luckily, we had been friends for years so we knew almost everything about each other.
I also had to give him background on the conflict that had plagued my family for the past few years. As my grandma got older and more sick, my mom’s siblings had to get involved more, as she was her caregiver and couldn’t do it all any more. For some reason, they all decided it was a great time to treat her terribly, calling her a liar and a thief, none of which was true. At one point I even had gotten involved, ruining the relationships I had with some of my cousins, which went back to when we were babies.
For a long time it plagued me, and Tom knew it. When we had first met I was a shell of a human, worn out from all the family fighting. Somehow, he brought me out of that dark place I had been in. He gave me somewhere where I felt appreciated and loved. Where I could be myself.
This year will be the first year that I’ve had to see them all at once. And the best part of it all? We’d all be staying at a winter resort together. For five days. Talk about a disaster waiting to happen.
It was the one thing my grandma had wanted this year. After having the hardest year ever and spending the majority of it in a nursing home, she wanted to live and see the world. It had been on her bucket list for years, but my grandfather and her had never had enough money for it. Everyone pitched in so we could make it a Christmas she would never forget.
My mom has partially made up with her siblings, but me on the other hand? I’m a bit harder to make up with.
Something else that was also running rampant through the family was jealousy and also the feeling of not being good enough. When I moved away to work in New York City, I felt the judgment from everyone in my family. Why is she doing that? Couldn’t she do something better with herself? Poor girl...She’ll never make it in the city.
For once, I wanted to prove to them that I was worth something, and that I had my life together. It also felt like a way at getting back at them for treating me and my family so terribly, like look at me! I have a boyfriend and a great job, would you look at that?! Even if it was all based around a lie...or well, a fib?
Tom and I had been getting mistaken for a couple since we first met. Even by our own parents. My face also wasn’t a stranger to the tabloids. Practically every time we went out there were cameras on us, ready to capture the romantic night that they suspected it to be. We even had some of his fans believing that we were together.
I’d be lying if I said I didn’t wish the rumors were true.
He was the sweetest and most genuine guy I’d ever met, which isn’t easy to find. Not to mention...look at him.
We just clicked, it was like a perfect puzzle piece.
There was one time a few months ago when I thought he was going to kiss me. We had gone out to a bar and then we came back to my place and just talked for hours. When he went to leave, he went in for a hug that I had thought was going to be a kiss and well, my lips landed on his cheek and then it was awkward for a while.
Things went back to normal pretty easily after that. We had a way of doing that, we could always bounce back even after being bent out of shape.
---
On the Monday before Christmas I informed my parents about Tom, convincing them that we were a couple with ease. My mom was overjoyed, every time she had seen him, she gushed over him, willing us to get together. This was her dream come true. My dad was happy too, he and Tom had gotten along tremendously, both having enough to talk about with just golf alone.
Tom and I would drive to the cabin from the city as it was just in Pennsylvania, only a few hours away. Most likely, we’d be the last ones to arrive since I worked until Tuesday and we wouldn’t be able to leave until Wednesday afternoon.
“My heart is pounding,” I said as we pulled onto the road that lead to the resort.
“It’ll be fine, I’m right by your side, okay?” he turned towards me, placing a reassuring hand on my knee. I felt my cheeks heat up at the gesture, making me even more nervous.
A beautiful, large cabin was set off to the side, looking picturesque with snow drifting with each gust of wind. I recognized many of the cars parked outside and a few of my cousins and their kids out in the snow, already playing.
“Hey, Y/N. Look at me,” Tom said as I stopped the car, “It’s going to be alright. If anything bad happens we can just go right back to New York, we’re only a few hours away.”
I nodded, taking a deep breath. “Okay.”
Both of us then hopped out of the car, going around to the back to grab our suitcases.
“Y/N?! Is that you?!” My cousin Allison yelled, leaving the kids and her husband standing in the middle of a snow drift.
“Time to put on that happy face,” I said to Tom and turned towards my cousin, “Allison?! How are you?!”
“I’m great! How are you?! I heard you’re living in New York now, how has that been going? And is this your boyfriend?!” She gave me a shocked look.
“It’s been great! I love my job, I’ve made some great friends. It’s amazing, and yes! This is Tom, my boyfriend,” I said, placing a hand on Tom’s back.
“It’s nice to meet you, I’m Tom,” he said, reaching out for a handshake.
“Wait...Are you Spider-Man?! The kids are going to freak out!”
“Yeah, that’s me!” he laughed, wrapping an arm around my shoulders.
“Aww, you guys are too cute. I can’t believe how grown up you are Y/N! I still remember babysitting you when you were little,” she commented, “Well, I guess I’ll leave you guys to it!”
We smiled at her, then went back to our suitcases.
“See? That wasn’t too bad,” Tom said, nudging me with his hip.
“Oh, she isn’t the problem. She never came back after she went to college. You’ll see when we actually get in there.” I patted his chest and tried grabbing my bags.
“Whoa, whoa, whoa. Let me carry those, I don’t wanna be a bad boyfriend.”
I shrugged, “I'm taking this one at least. I won’t feel useful if I don’t.”
We then made our trek up to the house, Tom struggling under the weight of both of our suitcases. Despite my attempts at helping, he wouldn’t let me.
Waiting just inside the front door was my dad, luckily, saving us from what was to come.
“So how is it in there?” I lowered my voice once I was close enough to him.
“Well they haven’t killed each other yet,” he mumbled, “Come here kiddo, I’ve missed you!”
I laughed, leaning in for a hug. “I missed you too, Dad.”
“You too, son!” he turned towards Tom, extending his hand for a handshake, “It’s good to see you two together, I always thought you’d be good together.”
“Daaadd, we just got here, you’re not allowed to embarrass me yet!”
“Darling, it’s okay. You embarrass yourself in front of me enough, I don’t think anything your dad can say will embarrass you more,” Tom joked.
I rolled my eyes and gave his shoulder a playful shove. “Oh shush.”
“You guys have room number 9 upstairs, you should probably take your stuff up before you well. See everyone,” my dad winked and then disappeared towards the living room.
Inside, the cabin was beautiful. Dark wood everywhere with beautiful furniture and a grand staircase right by the front door.
Just as I went to go up the stairs I spotted my cousin, Tara, coming down. I gulped, not quite ready to face this yet. All she did was give me a tight lipped smile and slip off into what I assumed was the kitchen.
At least she didn’t hit me or something.
I flipped around and gave Tom an irritated look, continuing to climb the stairs.
Room number 9 was just a few doors down once we reached the landing. Lucky for us.
I gasped as I opened the door. There was just one bed.
“They gave us a room with one bed?” I questioned as we entered.
“Of course, sweetheart! You guys are a couple after all,” my mom said, poking her head in.
“Mama!” I shouted and ran towards her, giving her a huge hug.
“My baby, I missed you! I’m so happy you’re here,” she said, “And with this wonderful boy too!”
“It’s good to see you again, Mrs. Y/L/N,” he laughed.
My mom then released me and embraced Tom.
“It’s so nice to see my girl so happy! But you know, if you break her heart, it’s not gonna be pretty.”
“Mom!” I yelled.
“What?!” She laughed, pulling away from Tom and patting him on the back.
Tom just gave an awkward smile and came to stand closer to me and sling an arm around my shoulders.
“If anything, she’s the heartbreaker in this situation,” he joked, “Don’t worry, I promise I won’t break her heart.”
I gave a soft laugh and turned towards my mom, still standing in the doorway.
“Well, I’ll let you guys get settled. I’ll be downstairs...avoiding my siblings.”
With that, she disappeared around the corner, leaving Tom and I standing alone in the room. His arm was still left hanging around my shoulders.
I gave a cough and he promptly removed the arm and turned back towards the bed.
“You can take the bed, I’ll sleep on the floor,” he said, taking a blanket from the corner and laying it on the ground.
“No, I invited you, you take the bed!”
He threw his arms up in frustration.
“Let’s just talk about it later...Now? Is time to confront your insane family.”
I let my head droop, he was right. Now was no time to argue over who was going to sleep in the bed.
“Okay, fine...Just remember, they have a way of warping the truth. Don’t let them get in your head. Please.”
His eyebrows furrowed together in concern.
“If you’re worried they’re gonna make me ‘turn against you’ or whatever. Don’t. I know you too well for anything to ruin our...friendship,” he brushed a lock of hair behind my ear.
“Okay, well. Then if you’re ready...let’s go see the insanity.”
Three Days ~ 43
Tumblr media
~*~Emma~*~
 I remembered Will from a couple of parties and Kirk and Boone's wedding. Nice guy. Apparently, he and some of his friends thought I was the extra in a three-way with Eli and Angie. Eli didn't see a reason he should correct them. Angie invited Alissa out on one of our girls’ nights and she became one of the group. It had probably been six months since I’d last seen her. I liked her and we got along well. The friendship had never progressed past those nights. I can't remember if I met her before or after Jimmy and I broke up. Either way, I moved, and we only ever saw each other on nights out. Now I find she's married to one of Sebastian's best friends. We have at least three friends in common and our friends' group overlaps. Very cool, but very weird. Almost like we were supposed to meet.
 Wednesday I got the photoshoot "before" picture about fifteen minutes before my kids arrived. Looked like Sebastian in the morning. Hair a little messy, a crease on his face from his pillow, and his eyes not quite awake. His beard had grown in more and I ran my fingers over it in the picture, knowing it would be gone in the after. I didn’t dislike either version. I was just used to the way I’d met him.
 My aide took the kids to lunch and I went in search of my after. The first thing I noticed was his beard was trimmed super close, where it was long stubble, but it was still there. I guess they'd changed their mind. His hair was styled not that different than he did except every hair was in place and I was betting it was fixed where it wouldn't move. Makeup perfected his skin tone and somehow made his eyes even bluer. Maybe it was the dark blue robe he was wearing. It had been hours since he'd sent, but I still sent a text telling him how handsome he looked.
 I grabbed my lunch out of my mini-fridge and headed down to Mallory's room. I'd made some pasta salad loaded with veggies while talking with Sebastian last night and was looking forward to eating. Our secretary was walking toward me with a bouquet of cookies. They were shaped and iced like crayons, rulers, apples, notepads, and glue. Outside of teacher appreciation week that usually signaled a parent had gotten pissed at a grade or consequence and sided with their kid. At least, until they got both sides of the story. Cookies were good apologies and could be shared with the other grade level teachers who were sure to know every word you said and the tone of voice you used.
 "Who got yelled at this time, Jamie?"
 She lifted an eyebrow, "You."
"No one’s yelled at me." That meant they were from Sebastian.
"Then your new boyfriend sent cookies instead of flowers."
I laughed, "Good possibility." I took them from her. "Take one for you and Kim."
"I was hoping you'd say that. They smell delicious."
 I walked into Mallory's room with my healthy pasta salad and not at all healthy cookies. "I brought dessert." Our lunch group made appreciative noises.
Cindy laughed, "Who's parent did you piss off?"
I shook my head, "No one."
Mallory snatched the card while my hands were full, "I believe these are from the new man." I went ahead and sat down, trusting the card would be G-rated. Mallory read, "Halfway into the last full week. Hope this helps you all make it through. Sebastian." She looked to me, "Sebastian? That's a mouthful."
"Yes, he is."
 Before we dug into the cookies, I had everyone take one and gather together. I'd send the picture as a thank you. They'd heard about him Monday after the tournament and I talked more about him today. I wasn't ready to share him yet. I was a little surprised word hadn't traveled from the tournament, but I guess there wasn't enough overlap. Outside of my team, where I worked wasn’t common knowledge. This was an advantage of not working and living in the same school district. If there was gossip it was more than likely identifying me as the setter on that team than a teacher. The moment his last name entered my school it would be a topic of conversation in all three buildings. I don't know exactly what that would mean. I'd been here four years and it was common knowledge where I went over winter break. Ed may eclipse Sebastian, but not when you throw Marvel in the mix. We have superhero day during our anti-drug week. I see the Marvel costumes and t-shirts. There'd be a lot of talk. Once the kids were gone, I’d feel more comfortable sharing who this new man is. The kids could make this a zoo.
 Mallory, Cindy, and I were the last left. Cindy asked, "Will we ever meet this Sebastian? See a picture."
 "I’m sure." I smiled, "We haven't known each two weeks yet. It's good and I'm protecting the new relationship like you do a new kitten. It needs to grow a little more."
 Mallory agreed, "You know the Barbie Bitches at the high school are going to want all the details."
 I did know that. "I’m not ready to share."
Cindy took our trash to the cafeteria while Mal and I cleaned up the tables. We sat down to finish our drinks, stretching out our break as long as possible. Her kids coming into the room was my cue to head back to my room as mine would be a few minutes behind them. It wasn’t quite time yet.
My text alert went off with a picture of Sebastian. I reached for my phone, but not so quick that Mallory didn’t see. Her eyes went wide and I held up a finger, “Give me one minute and I'll show you.” He was wearing a dark blue suit, with an unbuttoned white shirt, and an untied bow tie. He looked amazing and about two seconds away from sex. I put my hand over the screen and pushed it toward Mal, "Can I trust you to tell no one. I'm not ready for this to be here."
 Mal put her hand over mine, "You know I'm not telling anyone. If that's who I think it is, the kids finding out will make Field Day crazy. Too much unstructured time to gossip and ask you questions." She started lifting her hand, "Let me see."
I moved my hand from the phone to my mouth.
Mallory looked at the picture a long time before she said, "Yep, that’s a Sebastian. Damn, Emma, you met him," she tapped my screen, "in the grocery?"
I nodded.
"Now I really wish I would have come to volleyball. Although, I probably would have just stared."
 "No, you wouldn't. A few minutes and you would see he's like anyone else. Nothing special."
 She grinned, "Except to you." Her kids started coming into the room.
 I stood, "Except to me."
 As I headed to the door she called out, "We're sitting in the back at faculty meeting."
 Sebastian had sent another picture by the time recess rolled around. He was in black jeans and a t-shirt a least one size too small.
 Emma ~ Might have to cut you out of that shirt. This is not a complaint.
Sebastian ~ It was stretchy.
 Emma ~ How is it going?
Sebastian ~ Good. I'm sitting in a chair having my hair changed.
 Emma ~ What are they doing to it?
 Sebastian ~ Making it look like it did when I got here. Apparently, people sleep in very expensive watches. I' II be done soon. No tommorow.
Emma ~ What will you do with the unexpected free time?
Sebastian ~ Clean my apartment.
 Emma ~ I was going to say you don't have to, but you do. Ha Ha, the first time at least.
Sebastian ~ Exactly. I’m pretty neat. Bathroom is a wreck.
Emma ~ Bathrooms always need cleaning. I have to run. Argument on the monkey bars.
Sebastian ~ Talk to you later.
 It would be Thursday night before we talked. Real-life set in. I had a volleyball game Wednesday night and Sebastian went out for drinks with the photographer once the shoot was over. I got home and was exhausted. We lost. I don't like to lose.
 Thursday during the day there were no texts. My guess is he got home late and drunk. Overslept. Busy at gym. Returns home to sleep off the night before. I was driving home when a call from Sebastian came in.
"Buna ziua, Sebasti-an.” <Good afternoon>
 “Ce mai faci?” <How are you?>
 Thankfully he kept it simple. “Bine, tu?”  <Good and you?>
Sebastian switched to English. “I broke my phone. I pulled it out to text some woman, got elbowed by a guy on the sidewalk, and threw my phone on the ground. Screen shattered and I held it in my hand watching it slowly die. It just glitched and sputtered away in front of me."
"My poor, baby. Are you mourning the loss?"
 "Nope, an hour in an Apple store and I have a shiny new iPhone. They were able to transfer my data over. Good as new. That's why you hadn’t heard from me."
I smiled, "I thought you were sleeping one-off."
"I barely drank. Too much to do today. Sheets changed, bathroom clean, kitchen has some food, and the family room is clean. When are you going to be here?"
 "I got permission to leave a little early. I’ll definitely make the three o’clock train, but I’ll try and do the two. If that's ok with you?"
 “I'm not going anywhere after the gym. I'll be here waiting."
 "I'm excited. Seeing you. You with my friends and your friends. It’s going to be fun."
"It is."
Just to be sure. "Most excited about you."
"I like hearing that."
 I set my alarm a little early to give myself time to finish packing. I’m not normally an over-packer, but I couldn't decide on a dress for dinner. Or anything else. Insane. At least today wasn't a theme day I need to wear a costume for. I wore a pair of black capris and a bright pink top with rolled sleeves and a long zipper up the front. Up for school, a little less so for Sebastian.
 First text of the day.
Sebastian ~ Are you here yet?
 I had nothing but fun things planned for the day. Yesterday I'd had them vote for their favorite books and we read those at the top of every hour. We played math games, a science and social studies game show, and our top music and movement videos. I ate my lunch getting the STEM Lab cart and prepped everything for my assistant. The kids had been wonderful all day and I didn't feel the least bit guilty when I fled the building when she took them outside for recess.
 I waited until I was safely on the train to text Sebastian.
Emma ~ On my way
Sebastian ~ Early!
Emma ~ I’ll beat the worst of the traffic
Sebastian ~ Exactly what I was thinking.
Sebastian ~ I should shower.
 I put in my ear pods, clicking shuffle on my "Current Faves" playlist. This one changed all the time. Some never left the list. Recently there'd be an influx of happy love songs and sexy mood music. I think I even dozed off a couple of times. The closer I got the more butterflies were in my stomach. I was excited to see him, but a little nervous. I was going to his place. It would be different than surrounded by my stuff. I’m nervous about stupid stuff like where do I put my toothbrush, is it ok to look through the books in his extra room, what I do with my dirty clothes, and what if I get thirsty in the middle of the night? It's making me think back and wondering if I'd made him welcome... comfortable.
 I took a cab from the train station, looking out the window at the city I used to call home. I wasn't familiar with where he lived so I watched the numbers on the buildings. His building from the outside looked like an old converted warehouse. The brick was red with a gray stone line between every floor. Looked about seven floors. He'd texted me the entry code and I hopped on the elevator to the fifth.
 Sebastian opened his door so fast it was like he was standing beside it and I almost fell over. He was barefoot in ripped jeans and a Rutgers t-shirt. He held the door open with a hand high on the door. Add in the finger styled hair, bright blue eyes, and a smile that said he was happy to see me and he was the sexiest thing I'd ever laid eyes on. It was the barefoot part that got me.  "I'm here."
