So I was on reddit and I saw someone saying this in response to somebody else saying there would be no character in asoiaf that wouldn't have killed aerys in jaime's place:

And I just..get so frustated bc, let's put it this way: aerys is the king, that alone makes everyone around him be his yes man, add to this that the king is a mad fucker and will kill anyone if he so much as wakes up with a bad mood and you have the unlucky pleasure of passing by him in the morning, everyone around him will be even less inclined to so much as question him. This is a court that just watches as the king kills anyone, even high lords, in unnecessarily cruel ways just bc, as he killed one of his hand's bc he refused to carry out one of his orders or something, even the queen has no protection against the king. These are the ppl surrounding the king. So you're telling me that the city will be safe from going kaboom just bc you, the 17yo hostage guard, killed one of the king's MANY pyromancers and put the king in a cell? No one will see the mad fucker in a cell and get him out? Once out of his cell, the mad fucker totally will not turn and say "hey, this bitch put me, the king, in jail, that's treason, kill him" and they will just not do it? You're telling me the other pyromancers totally did not have a back up plan of "if they didn't hear from Rossart every 2 hours or something push the nuclear button"? No? Everything would be totally fine as long as you kill the ONE errand man but keep alive the man giving the orders everyone feels compelled to obey, be it by duty or fear, that's totally fine right? it'll work out, promise ✊

Seasonal depression Pony hcs with Darry trying to navigate how to help him?? I have a hc that pony has been dealing with seasonal depression even before his parents died and they always seemed to know exactly the right thing to do while Darry just stuck to being the fun older brother letting Pony tag along with his friends to try and cheer him up BUT now Darry can't really do that (cause... y'know 💀) so he's having a hard time figuring out how to help pony

tbh all these mfs got grounds to have seasonal depression at least one of the gang is always depressed each month, its like a torch they pass around

•before their parents died, darry rlly wasnt THAT proactive in helping him w it. not bc he didnt care but bc he didnt know how to care for him, he would ofc help when he could but ultimately he mostly left it up to soda and his parents to help, which they did

•after their parents died ponys seasonal depression genuinely slipped his mind, he just had a lot going on, so when pony started acting “weird” he remembered it and even then he didnt know how to react to it, he wouldnt b as hard on pony as he normally was but thats just about it, even then he was kinda leaving it up to others (namely soda and johnny) to help w that

•from those times darry starts getting a clearer understanding of what to do for pony, he doesnt need people to watch over him all the time like darry was pushing the others in the gang to do, he needs his space only time he actually needs others around is as a push to keep on going, b his friend not a guardian!!!

•before their parents died, pony and darry would regularly prank each other, and i could totally see darry bringing that back a lil bit just to see pony smile. if not, soda and darry bicker and prank each other to see pony giggle

the whole point is that rhys is (1) a bad high lord and (2) just lacks initiative. he's...a lazy ruler. he only 'challenges' the status quo in ways that still uphold it. everything 'good' about the night court -- he already inherited. if anything - the story kind of praises antiquated practices of rhysand's fathers in relation to velaris. and a lot of this is a symptom of sjm being a lazy writer - but the problem still persists. like he can make feyre 'high lady' but if he told cass or az "do not tell feyre about this," az/cass would defer to him. im not speculating about this, its literally canon.

the whole point in pointing out that rhys rounds up all the 'bad' illyrians and decides to torture and murder them is to show the disconnect. rhys is willing to commit these atrocities and murders - just not in a way that would productively help the females in his court. he is the absolute authority on this issue. we're not saying "if rhys did x" - we already know that he'll receive no consequences if he did. like if rhys didn't kill the illyrians, it would have been hard to make my argument; i would have been making up a hypothetical situation and then the argument will devolve into a semantic mess. but like we can make this argument bc rhys would just round up a bunch of illyrians and kill them. he already did.

the the overarching problem is that sjm has written in a scenario in which the citizens are all blamed for their poverty, femicide, and clipping. and the story cant justify how under the most perfectest, beautifulest high lord to ever walk the earth has had over 300-400 years to fix an issue, but hasnt.

like even tam tam rebranded his court so well that his citizens fundamentally didn't align themselves to his father's previous ideology. remember the spring court that literally supported slavery - tamlin rebranded that. feyre even mentions that he did such a good job at it that his people didn't miss a step when he started to exhibit those same behaviors. tamlin didn't inherit that atmosphere - he made it. and its weird when the villain of the story has shown more initiative than your protag.

in the same 300-400 years only one court actually changed. and it wasnt the night court. and this is not to be pro-tamlin, it’s just what’s established. and we can absolutely pick apart tamlin’s politics (he was also written by sjm - she can’t write politics for shit) too, but like broadly speaking - the night court operates in the same manner it did when rhys's father was in power.

absinthe & weiss: well. what absinthe expected: an antagonistic book he may or may not end up fighting while having very mixed feelings about it due to knowing how that book came to even be. what he got: a grumpy pretentious dick who is clearly a good person at heart. it was absolutely a slow burn & weiss considered him a ditz for a little while but was a bit taken aback by how surprisingly knowledgeable & dependable absinthe turned out to be. they met bc absinthe took some of the forest of myth inhabitants' deathdream (or deathdroom if you prefer) onto himself thinking he'd be completely immune to it & ended up sunk into a really deep deathdream, & obviously nier & weiss went in there to save him like they did everyone else. i think Something clicked really quickly with them but it wasn't like. romantic in nature to begin with. it developed that way they just get on well no matter what

absinthe & weiss: definitely not one-sided. i don't actually think either of them "pursued" a relationship per se, it kinda just. happened. when absinthe tells emil about his feelings for weiss emil kinda just goes "oh... i thought you guys were a thing already..." & absinthe has to reckon with that. this of course leads to emil (& later kainé.) making attempts at matchmaking but less "getting them together" way & more "getting them to acknowledge they are together" way. & they do that by teasing the shit out of both of them in various ways. kainé can & will weaponise this during arguments with weiss & they have to get a tantrum hole for him within a week. you know the tantrum hole. from the flaming skull comic. this but for weiss. his rectangle tantrum hole

absinthe & weiss: in post-canon they definitely celebrate emil & yonah's birthdays. absinthe & weiss push for celebrating nier & kainé's as well, & since neither of them know their own birthdays absinthe & weiss' birthdays end up getting celebrated on the same day which happens to be the day the gang got them to fully out loud say alright yes fine maybe we are married by vibes. now having lived as long as he has & knowing all that he knows absinthe is very particular about dates. it's not really celebrations much but he does go out & visit certain places every year to honour them & what happened there, like the shadowlord's castle or the lab. & eventually weiss starts tagging along

hildemet+hancock: emet is a lot more fussy about dates than he would care to admit... in part because he has a reason to care about time passing now. things don't blend in like they used to. he's very mindful of anniversaries & birthdays, though not particularly his own. was actually quite content when hancock "pressured" hildegarde into picking a birthdate since he didn't know his own, so he could "have one date to send him gifts for rather than sending them the whole year round" (it does not stop him it was an excuse for them to have something to celebrate). special modern au note that they celebrate all big jewish holidays 💥

hildegarde & emet: (scared smile) they need to stop putting hildegarde in life or death situations man. the current biggest strain in their relationship is that he keeps ending up nearly getting himself killed & comes home an amorphous blob more often than not (the more his aether drains the more he struggles to maintain his form). they bicker a fair bit & have a LOT. of baggage. but it never comes anywhere close to earth shattering final days divorce

hildegarde & hancock: sighhh. they don't like to be verbally vulnerable with each other..... problems ensue. biggest difference is that hildegarde fucking despises lolorito & deeply deeply wishes hancock understood that poverty isn't the only bad thing that's happened to him. but it also took hildegarde a very long time to tell hancock literally anything about him (like. post shb) despite how much hancock's seen him get all fucked up. they have had pretty bad arguments though which seems uncharacteristic for them with hancock's whole thing being about keeping the peace with Everyone & hildegarde being a bit of a doormat by nature. hancock Did try protecting hildegarde exactly once, got hurt about it, & he had never seen hildegarde this mad before nor has he seen hildegarde this mad since. & it takes a lot for hildegarde to be outright furious

as with all things i stick to canon & simply elaborate or stack things on top so the impact of everything remains relatively the same. i absolutely hate undermining the impact of things like character death if they happen for a reason that i can get with (you know, unlike yotsuyu & other such cases) just because i want a character to live. i have to find much more convoluted ways for them to live in the end, because i'll be real i genuinely think hildegarde would've died in post shadowbringers if he didn't have emet in his head for a while, & it has to fit canon to a degree. that said

absinthe & weiss: didn't nyx anything, i merely gave him a freaky ass powerful wizard-scientist who can & will give him a physical vessel to avoid him evaporating into the general atmosphere LMAO. i don't think i added much angst it's mostly just the consequences of absinthe as a character. the angst comes from what he knows & what he's been through, & the fact that he knows things about weiss' past that weiss doesn't AND that weiss cares about him enough that seeing absinthe hurt affects him

hildegarde & emet: sighhh takes long drag. there's a shit ton of angst in canon & i added a shit ton of angst on top of that because hildegarde is just... so miserable for so so long. & emet is also so miserable. it kinda had to be all miserable for a while. but they get a happy ending bc i fucking said so!!!! #yaoiwin

i do know for a fact that i planned jimin and y/n to be endgame. it was going to be a long process of "will they or wont they" because of jimins underlying insecurities and y/n's inability to introspect would always be a hindrance in their relationship

i know i framed y/n as like a "really good person" but she really isnt perfect. i was gonna lay more groundwork to "expose" her for some of the fucked up shit she did in the past (i forgor 💀) and i was planning on exploring her internalized "holier than thou" complex

that was gonna be the second main conflict after the whole jimin vs tae conflict... kinda like a season 2 lol

BUT BACK TO SEASON 1... tae vs jimin lol so yeah tae releases that slander video on jimin and he runs away... y/n is supposed to have a big altercation with jin and make him release a statement proving jimin's innocence... jin ofc says no and y/n + jimin (+kook on the side) have to figure out a way to improve jimin's public image

my initial idea was that he tries to pivot towards becoming a professional dancer and joining hoseok's crew... i was planning on introducing a new character (likely seungkwan haha gotta keep with the seventeen member cameos) who was gonna be like a PR manager... they'd make a youtube channel and post content about their dancers. not just their dances, but interviews, challenges, etc. just to "prove" jimin is the good guy or something.

on the side, the seungcheol/jeonghan/yoongi drama... yeah seungcheol gets dumped by y/n like an additional two times LOL and for funsies, jeonghan confesses his feelings for seungcheol to y/n (shocker) and its all very messy mwahahah (yeah they both end up sad in the end my bad). as for yoongi... OH BOY

so yeah he got rejected by y/n which RUINS his ego and he doesnt give up for a while. then he starts crushing on seungcheol (who previously had a crush on him lol) and it gets very messy but overall he gets called out on his power tripping ways and ends up alone at the end teehee (he was gonna get an epilogue scene where he goes to the club all drunk and shit and a younger guy hits on him but calls him "sir" after seeing his face properly lol)

as for jin/hoseok/namjoon... uhhh yeah 2seok dont end up strictly together... theyre both chaebols with fucked up senses of humor (they both enjoy playing with people like chess pieces) and jin gets super pissed when he finds out hoseok has been playing with HIM on the side. they have a heated argument that causes the collapse of bang ent (hoseok has more money/influence than him and essentially grabs the company off jin's hands) and BOOM friends to lovers to enemies to ???

oh and namjoon is there. uhhhh yeah he becomes jin's little puppet for a while. essentially namjoon spies on y/n for jin and breaks her trust. this further strains kook's mental state because he feels super guilty about everything. i was planning on kook being pro-joon and breaking y/n's heart, but i wasnt sure. it all depends on how i was feeling tbh LMAOOO sometimes i like making jungkook cry (all the time)

as for tae... yeah he wins LOL he's essentially the main antagonist (its not jin... surprise) but he actually succeeds in becoming a very popular pornstar. even when hoseok grabs the company, he keeps tae on their roster and tae becomes very rich. he continues trying to slander jimin but he eventually stops when hoseok forces him to stop (out of guilt? bribery? revenge? who knows lol)

umm back to jimin and y/n... yeah they get together blah blah y/n confesses first, jimin gets hurt a lot, y/n is bad at relationships (shes got bad interpersonal skills), they have a large argument where y/n accidentally dehumanizes jimin (ouch)... so many things. all that matters is that they do end up together... maybe not so happily, but they'll get there. i think.

like ok i know im the creator of this au and i can do whatever with the characters. but sometimes i feel like the characters are actually doing whatever they want to and im like a haggard reporter chasing after them trying to figure out what’s going on.

that said i still really wanted to answer this ask because i think it’s interesting and also because ive already put you through the ringer with the light mode debacle (😭) so its still keiji and shin but a more…platonic take on these prompts?? I HOPE THATS OKAY AUUUAUAUAU;;;

anyways just to offer you a bit of background: keiji and shin are a super interesting duo in ytr to me! keiji takes hinako’s spot, meaning he’s a human who tries to blend in with the dummies. if shin lives, he actually gets paired up with him (i know that doesnt actually fit the role swap but i wanted to anyways because they are the parallel characters of all time to me). i definitely see their relationship starting off with mutual suspicion, with shin being suspicious of keiji’s behaviors (what with him secretly being a double-agent for asunaro n all here <.<) and keiji being suspicious of shin kind of splitting off from the rest of the group. yet, i also see this evolving into a sort of mutual intrigue— they’re both invested in trying to Detective each other out and figure out What This Guy’s Deal Is.

a moment for 45-46 would, to me, definitely take place after it’s revealed that the dummies’ goal is to kill their partners. if shin already didn’t trust keiji, he would certainly not after knowing this info (i mean, come on, mr. 0.0% over here…). and i can TOTALLY see them getting into an argument over that, since a conflict of interests would be born from keiji wanting to keep an eye on shin while shin just wants to be Left The Hell Alone.

i think keiji would make the argument that if shin was really so worried about being targeted, why doesn’t he just make the first move to take out keiji? to which shin would be like are you stupid? then ryoko and everyone else would want me dead. to which keiji would point out…buddy….they kind of already do. he can Sense the antagonism in the air just from how ryoko and shin interact.

he then takes it a step further to observe that shin cant trust anyone, but he doesnt have it in him to betray anyone either. shin would actually be caught off guard at this, but also be like “bitch you too” and say that keiji also hasn’t trusted anyone, hasn’t revealed practically anything about himself.

i think this is where the “realization” part kicks in. shin desperately DOES want to trust others, in this case he even *does* like keiji, but he’s so terrified of letting anyone in (ESPECIALLY after the 2nd main game) when it’s so much easier to push people away.

i think…they’d be able to be a bit candid here. realizing that they’re at a bit of an impasse, i think keiji would be the first to open up a little about Why he acts this way (more of the traumatic past stuff, less of the asunaro stuff for. obvious reasons 💀) and shin would mutually confess how he felt about the death game and that he wants to trust keiji but just feels like he can’t.

the real fun (tragic) part is that i think after having a conversation like this shin would feel hopeful!!!! that maybe even in this awful environment he could find someone he might be able to call a friend(????!!!!) but of course that’s cut short because keiji dies in the banquet 💥💥💥 hence why this is the Worst time for him to realize he actually doesn’t think this guy is half bad. sorry i love making shin suffer </3

Yeah you would be surprised how many minorities are so in favor of that man despite him not caring about them in the slightest. It will never make sense to me. I need to rant about what happened today (and all my friends were involved so I’m gonna tell some random stranger on the internet 😭😭)

So basically we were in PE and me and my friend were put into this team with this girl, (A), and she already is known for being a bitch and overreactive as hell. Anyway we were playing end ball which is netball but without positions and stuff, and this girl took the ball off her and she got pissy, then she (IN THE WRONG CONTEXT) said touché (she used it in the context of like fair enough) anyway my friend was like “Two shades.” Because we were joking about how she was getting pissy about the two shades of green of the bibs because there was light green and dark green and we were joking about how she was ‘colourist’. For context I’m literally black and we were VERY OBVIOUSLY joking. But she got mad and stormed off court and started complaining at these girls (who are the like popular and pretty girls who were sat on the side) and then those girls were glaring at me and my friend for the rest of the lesson. I’ve never had any problems with these girls before and i swore they didn’t even know my name, and i swear they don’t actually like A, they just love drama. Anyway i went up to A and asked what she told those girls to make them glare at me and she went “no I’m not talking to you you cunt” and then the girls came over and I asked one of them (S) what she told them and I DIDNT GET AN ANSWER. SHE JUST SAID I WAS TALKING SHIT. I WASNT, I WAS JOKING. Then when they went inside S walked past me and my friend and said “Yous are some bitches man” like EXCUSE ME??? We were JOKING. And then in the changing rooms after, we started arguing as our clothes were opposite each other and it was annoying how she just refused to tell us what we did. (it's okay oomf yar good! sorry as well for not registering immediately that majority of the points in your response leaned more on personal interpretation rather than completely going off based from what the canon showed us, i was under the impression that it was since my og post was heavily structured around what we saw in canon so </3)

but okay, I do see your point a lot better now. In retrospect, S1 and S2's stepping stones for the build up of her betrayal was good enough as it is in hindsight... until they pulled up the gothel card—which came out of nowhere—because not a single time throughout the seasons did Cass ever wondered where her own parents were, or wonder what they were like or wonder where she would be or what her life would be like if she wasnt orphaned. Basically nothin to constantly place that thought attach to her character to make sense for her to tweak out in S3E1 about Gothel

The show tried to tap into this in S1E5 "Cassandra v. Eugene" but she pretty much made it clear that didnt seem to matter to her she hardly cared about who her bio parents were. So pulling up the Gothel card didnt amount to much cuz it was terribly build up, if at all really. Like how come she decided that was the final straw??? when she clearly didnt gaf before like??? ever??? on top of that, S1 Cass pretty much had an idea that Raps' time with Gothel wasnt the greatest but she suddenly forgot about that by S3 like gurl what 😭

And I agree that this revelation did not serve Cass' villain arc in any meaningful way by a long shot, it just destroyed a perfectly understandable resentment on Cass' part towards Raps that didnt need Gothel involved in the picture because youre right, because of this choice by the writers—thats unfortunately what most of us (me being one of them admittedly) remember as the source of conflict (when it wasnt what S1 and S2 setted up at all)—their arguments just revolved around the topic of Gothel whenever they actually clashed confronting and fighting each other after that and it overshadowed everything else about Cass' character and did a nasty job at trying to make her sympathetic 💀

The writers should have sticked to the real issue (Cass being fed up with Raps based from the experience she had as her friend in the present, not what happened in the past) instead of throwing Gothel in the mix as a scapegoat as being "the problem" that caused their fall out

But thats not what happened so—and either way I still think Cass shouldnt have gotten a free pass for all that shit in the end and should have atone for her mess by NOT running away hoping for the best that Corona forgets about it in a couple of years like its medieval cancel culture. Gurl get yar ass back there and take responsibility. I will die on this hill (/nsrs)

however, unlike someone else on this list, hes not embarrassed about it. more so genuinely curious, as he loves learning about you and he thinks its important to know how your body works!

CROW // GORO AKECHI

oh boy, akechi sure is a character. and i think with him it depends.

usually though hes just a pretty average guy. hes not stupid, but he also isnt the best at understanding your emotions, or his own, for that matter.

youre in public, akechi talking to one of the tv hosts after hes finished appearing on a show, and you gently tug on his jacket to let him know you started your period, and need the restroom. 

hes conflicted, whats supposed to come first, you or his reputation? when it comes to him, he makes any simple situation way more complicated in his head.

he makes an eternal sacrifice to shoo away the people talking to him, and he quickly takes off his jacket to wrap it around your waist. you both find a bathroom nearby and he paitently waits for you outside.

when you walk out, he offers to pick up whatever you may need (including some food) and take you home.

at your front door, he kisses your cheek, but cant help but noticed the nervous expression on your face.

its only then when you mention that akechis jacket is, in fact, a light color, and is most definitely stained now with bright red blood. his face goes blank, and youre worried for a second he might be mad.

he only shrugs at that, same detective prince smile as always, and jokes that youre paying for his dry cleaning.
